Mr. Lany is the freakin' man! He's helped improve my writing 100% and he's a cool guy. Don't expect an easy "A" because that's not what he does, but he'll definetly give great advise on how to become more confident in your writing! :)

I took Lany for FIL1000. I enjoyed it a lot, Lany has a knack for making people comfortable. His lectures were very dry though, trying to make obscure connections to movies just isn't working out.

English is my worst subject, but Lany was so awesome! The papers are a little hard but he is ALWAYS there to help. Best teach I have ever had.

Great professor! Cares about his students & will help anyway he can...he is fair but pushes you to your potential. On the downside, he is moody sometimes.

Best teacher I have ever had, including high school. The one who said he pushes his views on the class is absolutely wrong. He only says his views when asked (and sometimes begged) by a student. I even disagree with his political views and had an absolute blast both times I took his class. Very helpful. Very funny. You look forward to class!

Mr. Lany is the best teacher at fccj. I have had his class 3 times. He wants his students to pass and helps you when you have any problem. He is easy to talk to and super cool. I am taking him in the fall for Enc 1102. Mr.Lany rocks!!!

I had his class my first semester in college- his teaching style is interesting and fun- he keeps you motivated and his assignments are fun too. Professor Lany is very helpful when it comes to answering questions, and is very flexible when it comes to making upwork (during no class hours). i had him for two of my classes and i would recomend him to anyone. my writing skills where greatly improved. Very laid back. but you will have an essay due every week in his english class.

If you, like almost everyone, are taking this class because it is a requirement, I definately recommend Mr. Lany's. He is helpful and funny, and gives you every opportunity to get good grades. If you are planning on being an English major, or care for any reason about actually improving your writing, you can do better.

He is CRAZY and hilarious and makes class a LOT of fun. You can tell that he loves his job and wants to really help his students. He is a little bit harsh on grading, but you will learn so much from him. I would recommend taking him, unless you're lazy and don't want to work...then don't bother. You'll just end up failing. :)

Yes, you will be extremely glad if you take this professor. He is by far the best one I've had. His assignments aren't the hardest thing in the world and everyday you will laugh your ass off in class. He is a funny one. I don't recall ever having an English teacher that was so helpful... not only helpful but approachable. He's so nice and he makes it very easy to ask questions and he doesn't make you feel stupid for not understanding something. He's awesome. I HIGHLY recommend him. Awesome guy. I enjoyed his class a lot. His last assignment was a little hard. He has a great sense of humor. Test are not hard if u watch movie and write down the notes during discussion. You actually learn how to watch movies in this class. Very interesting class with a very cool professor.

Mr. Lany is histarical, a total babe, and a really good teacher. He's really smart but not uptight. He's really outgoing and appreciates if you take his class seriously but everything else is all fun and games. Make sure you do all the work, and read the book. Plays really good movies. Oh and once again, He's a total babe.

Prof. Lany is serious about his class and helping his students, but at the same time him and his assignments are fun. The work is fun and creative, and it also makes you think. Don't hesitate to ask him for help; he checks his email often. If you get a chance take one of his classes;he's GREAT!

The best teacher, period. I'm a writer and an English major, and he helped me push my writing. He expects alot of his students but no more than they are capable of if they apply themselves. He makes the classroom a comfortable environment and has most of the class laughing about 90% of the time. I took him for 2 classes & regret that it was only 2!

Professor Lany is a great Film and English teacher. Hilarious and smart. He knows a lot about film and makes you appreciate the cinematic art. Test aren't bad just copy down what he writes on the board, watch the movies, and participate in the discussions. The only thing that sucks is you don't have enough time to watch so many movies.

Mr. Lany is awesome. You watch great movies and the assignments are interesting. He will help you, you just have to ask. He is ridiculously funny, and gives great feedback on essays and tests. Awesome teacher! He is definitely my favorite teacher ever. His attendance policy is pretty relaxed, as long as you show up for most of the classes, you're fine. If you show you're putting forth an effort, he will notice and grade you accordingly. Take him for any class you can!

Great professor. He does require you to work for your grade. As long as you show up on time and do what he asks of you, you will have no problem getting an A in the class.

Lany is pure awesome! I love this man. He makes class fun, yet at the same time you learn so much from him. Not an easy A, but it is not impossible. I feel that I have learned more from him than any other English Prof in my life. This is my second class with him and will not be the last. You can tell he loves film. I've had Mr. Lany for both ENC1101 and 1102. probably for the same reason as every else who prefer to take his eng classes. he's amazing! never had so much fun in a class while also learning more than i ever had. he's extremely helpful and sincerely wants you to succeed. show up, do the work, and try your best and it'll def pay off. he's the best

Very fun professor. Also very helpful. Can send him rough drafts and he gives great feedback. Took the hybrid class. Overall 3 essays, 1 online essay and one in-class final essay. Topics to choose from are good. No quizzes or tests. Strictly gives you deadlines for final drafts but discusses topics in class so you know what to write about.

Lany is the best! I took him for 1101. I've never been a great essay writer but He made my writing SO much better. He's a tough grader but you'll be surprised how great of a writer you will become taking this class. He's also crazy and likes to yell random words, so class is fun. Him being cute (especailly in sweaters) is also a plus.

Absolutely amazing professor; one of my favorites. One of the smartest people I know. Also very entertaining. Never dull. He can be a bit critical, but only means to improve your writing. His goal seems to be to get you to think well, which I am very grateful for. If you are a good student and put in a solid effort you will do well.

I took his Intro to Film class along with 30 other ppl. Half of them took the class as a joke, but Lany is very passionate about film. You watch different genres of movies (some are very uh.. different) take notes, and get a few papers or online discussion activities. . TAKE NOTES!!! Dont fall asleep, b/c the notes ARE the tests! Fun class overall

Lany is awesome!! Easy to talk too and funny! There is definitely some writing done in this class but the films he picks are pretty good and he makes it clear what he expects of you. I also took him for 1102(he was a little harder for that class) but still great. Completely recommend him!!

I absolutely hate english, but Mr. Lany made the class so simple! You have to write 4 900 word essays, which arent hard and one simple in class essay! you dont have a midterm and hes a great teacher who will help you with anything! extremely laid back, and you can miss up to 5 classes! i highly recommend this class

Professor Lany is one of my favorite professor at FSCJ. He is clear about your assignments and his feedback on ALL assignments is incredible. I absolutely adored his class and I will most definitely take him again.

I cannot say enough positive things! I had him for an evening class and he really did his best to entertain while teaching. Make sure you read what he asks for pop quizzes as he gives plenty of opportunities for an easy A. I found his feedback on papers critical but very useful. I will do everything in my power to take all future classes with him

Took him for a 12-week course. It was surprisingly a lot of fun, and he was incredibly helpful in his feedback. He WILL make you work hard for that grade, but it's still a fulfilling experience all around.

Great teacher worth taking. Lany is laid back and explains everything in class. If he feels the students do not understand an assignment he gives one on one help. The class consisted of 4 essays and various quizzes for the books read in class. Really fun and will make you laugh.

If you are taking him for ENC1101 you are to write four papers: 1 narrative, 1 compare and contrast, 1 research, and 1 random paper. Currently in week 2 of this class but it's already pretty obvious that if YOU LIKE TO WRITE and are passionate about writing, you will like this professor. Picture Robin Williams from Dead Poet Society only funnier and with less deaths in his class. 70% of grade is a 7,000+ word portfolio. Easy day.

Professor is really helpful and lets you give him a rough draft of your paper so he can give you feedback so when you turn in the final there's no way you can't get a good grade. You have to actually TRY and fail his class not to pass.

Took regular length in-class ENC1102. Excellent professor. By far my best thus far at FSCJ. I was already a good writer entering his class; he sent my abilities into the stratosphere. Expect to laugh in class. Reading quizzes 1xweek that are a breeze if you read the assigned reading. Will work with you academically & if accommodations are needed.

THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER! VERY HELPFUL. Just work hard for you grade and you will have a nice grade. With him you will learn a lot!

2 books to read, 4 papers and quizzes about the books, that's it. The quizzes get kind of annoying at the end but he's funny and makes the class fun. Not a tough grader!

Prof Lany is great. He likes to make you write but he seems to really enjoy reading your papers and giving feedback to make you a better writer. Even if you hate writing, you could still pass this class as long as you do the work. He will work with you if you show some kind of effort.

I took him twice. He is an amazing teacher and is very helpful. He takes your rough drafts and reads them himself, then goes over it with you so you know exactly what he wants. No need to use a writing lab. Works with you about missing class as long as you email him. Highly recommend!

Absolutely fantastic professor. He is really funny and makes the class very interesting! There are 2 in class readings you have to participate in for a grade, discussion boards throughout, and a 7000 word portfolio. He walks you through everything, even writes with you sometime in class! Very helpful and extremely encouraging. Loved this class!

He's a great professor ! I definitely want to take his class again. He really takes his time to explain things that certain people in the class don't understand. He's a tough grader, but he lets you submit as many first drafts as you want. He's super funny, and makes class really enjoyable!

Matt is an awesome professor. He's a bit of an eccentric character which makes for some pretty hilarious class discussions. He is an avid reader and writer, and his wide knowledge of literature really expresses his interest in the subject and passion for teaching. Matt is committed to your education and will inspire you to become a better writer.

This guy is amazing, hands down. Don't be alarmed by the rating of 2 for 'easiness.' Professor Lany is there for you. He's a tough grader, but you will learn the ways of correct grammar. If I could have this guy for every one of my English classes, I would. Take him, you won't regret it. Bonus: He has a sense of humor!

LOVED Prof Lany. He really helped me develop my writing. Honestly, he's the first professor I voluntarily went to office hours for advice on projects. Hilarious and lets you write from the soul. Very good teacher. For ENC1101 we read a really good book with a short quiz once a week on 40-60 pages. 4 essays due throughout course but thats it. He will let you know if it's not necessary to come to the next class.

We had to read 3 books and watched one movie, one of the books was super long but interesting. We had to write 3 1200 word essays. Reading quizzes every week. Overall great professor!

Class was very easy. Given 5 papers to write. We spend about 4 weeks on each essay and we discuss them in class. Very funny, and outgoing professor. Fair grader does expect great papers since he basically tells us exactly what he's looking for in each essay. Overall one of my favorite classes.

I loved Professor Lany! Definitely going to be taking him for ENC1102! He only requires one book, 'The Circle' by Dave Eggers, which will be needed on essay #3. He has weekly reading quizzes but those are super easy as long as you read the book. We had a total of 4 essays, plus an in class essay. He gives excellent feedback on each essay, too.

Recommend for all times but will keep your entertained if you happen to need a night class!

Professor Lany is awesome. I would take him for every class if I could. He gives great feedback on assignments. Put in the effort and you will get an A.

Lany is an amazing professor! He doesn't take things too seriously and genuinely wants to get to know you. He has a passion as a prof. and it rubs off. He makes it very clear what he expects of you as a student and your work but is very understanding if something is going on in your life. Take time to do the work and it's an easy A!

If you are a foreign student, and you really want to improve your English, this is your class. However, if you want an easy A, try another professor. He talks very fast but cares about the students, so if at any point you stay in the air like "Alice in Wonderland", you can ask him. Take his class..., he will help you for sure.

Really helpful and understanding. I missed a few classes and as long as I was able to give him solid papers, he was okay with it (not that I would recommend just skipping). Act like you care and he will care in return. Class was interesting and the papers weren't too difficult. He definitely gave me a higher grade than I maybe earned.

Easiest course I've ever taken. He is very lenient and cares about his students. Do your reading assignment every week and turn in an essay every few weeks, and you will easily pass the course.

Prof. Lany is an amazing english teacher. There was two books to read with easy quizzes12 and 4essays. There was one extra credit thing and he is a fair grader. I would HIGHLY recommend his class as he is a hilarious individual who enjoys watching students exhale in their writing and overall life. If you can take this mans class YOU WILL LOVE IT!

Lany was a very funny, and great teacher! He is super nice and very understanding and loves to get everyone in his class involved, his work was very easy if u listen to him cause he explains to the class exactly what you need to do to get an A.

Prof. Lany was AWESOME for ENC1101. He's very charismatic, his lectures are great, he's loud and honest. Weekly reading quizzes on the first book and one reading quiz for the second book (Hurricane pushed schedule), all were fairly easy. Four essays throughout the class and he will accept rough drafts so you know exactly what to expect. Great class

Prof Lany is by far one of the best instructors at FSCJ. He is hilarious, caring, and genuinely wants you to pass. As long as you put forth the effort, you will get a good grade. I would recommend taking his class.

Professor Lany is a great teacher. He really loves what he does and wants to make a difference in the english department. He pushed me to be a better writer and even invited me to share my work for the first time.

Great Professor

Prof Lany was amazing! He gives you all the tools you need to succeed in his course. He's really funny guy and keeps it light hearted. Had a total of 4 essays to write. He expects everyone to put forth their best efforts and the way he teaches it makes you want to do your very best. wish I could take his class again but I don't need anymore credits

SUPER AWESOME. He is extremely funny, sarcastic in a good way, while at the same time professional. He's genuine and extremely accessible. He asks to read one book for the semester and the quizzes are super easy if you actually READ! And always extra credit. Essays are also not difficult and if struggling he's there to help. TAKE HIM!!

Uses essays for most of the semester, tough grader when you dont take work seriously. really funny, cares about students passing. will always help if needed.

Best teacher I have ever had. He really cares about his students and is always willing to help. Two cheap books, easy reading quizzes once a week, and two 1200 word essays that he will take the time to explain and help you over and over. Hate writing? He makes it enjoyable. Love writing? He makes you love it even more. You'll enjoy coming to class!

One of the best professors I have ever had. Tough grader on essays but is really helpful with them so that you'll get a good grade. Very respectful and understanding, also funny.

Take professor Lany's class if you want to become a better writer. Always give him you're rough draft for some clear feedback. By the time you turn your papers in you will get a better grade, than you would have without his input! Awesome, understanding and respectful as well! A stress-free class, but put in the effort for your grade! Proof-read!

Professor Lany is a harsh grader. But he is precise about his grading criteria, so it's fair game. He also takes attendance. So, if you skip more than four days of class, then he's going to drop you. Other than that, we just had to read a book that was assigned to us, and took a quiz every Thursday until the semester ended. But I enjoyed the class.

His lectures were interesting, and he gave good feedback. His expectations were clear. He wants the students to do their best. I highly recommend taking his class. If i could take ENC 1102 with Professor Lany, I would.

This Professor is probably the best I've ever had. I took him twice and he changed me for the better. He is fairly difficult, but sees the potential in people and brings out the best in them. Very laid-back, relatable, and understanding. Can't find another like him.
