Ok class
Not an easy class at all.
This was a class I actually wanted to go to. He makes it fun and easy. Make sure you actually do the labs, do the ihome modules, and read what he tells you to read. Great professor and extremely knowledgable about the subject (wrote the textbook).
The worst teacher I have ever taken. Not helpful at all, and the material is too ridiculous and too in depth for a required intro level class.
Where to begin? Has a RUBRIC for discussions, expects 15-20 posts for a POSSIBLE A... Expects students to memorize 55 page articles with countless statistics, graphs and charts. Tests have the same questions as quizzes so if you fail the quizzes, then you'll fail the test. Arrogant and unhelpful. DON'T TAKE THIS SORRY EXCUSE FOR A PROFESSOR.
This is the first online class I've ever taken and I will probably never take one again. Awful. I understand that college is about putting in a lot of the work yourself, but he is no help at all. He expects you to memorize mile long articles and hardly anything comes from the book. Thought I'd take a chance with an easy summer class.. jokes on me.
Go to class. Take notes. Print the PDFs. Do the quick homework. Read over the labs. Make sure to read the case studies and science behind the stories in the textbook for the assigned chapters. Go to class. And you are guaranteed to get an A. It sounds like a lot, but it's easy. My favorite class. Will be taking him for 1102.
This was literally the hardest online class I have ever taken. Deadlines are at inconvenient times and requires a ridiculous amount of reading. This professor wrote the textbook and expects you to live eat & breathe science 1102. DO NOT TAKE ONLINE. Not worth the stress!!
Prof Laposata is an amazing professor and incredibly good at what he does. He clearly sets out the expectations and ANY negative ratings are from lazy students who sat in the back, missed class, and now blame him for their pathetic grade. To get an A, sit in the front row and listen to what he says bc he is hilarious & most of his test are lecture.
His tests and quizzes were not over science content, they were over irrelevant details he mentioned during the lectures and in the textbooks. If you want to even pass then you need to write down every word he says and read every page in the textbook!!!
He likes to brag about how he wrote the book, if that says anything about the way he approaches his tests. Tells you the labs aren't mandatory but then puts 12 questions about the labs on the test. You have to work your butt off for this class.
4 test in person that are all extremely difficult because he wrote the book. More on small intricate details rather than about science. Also, tough questions on labs. Lectures are not mandatory, but strongly suggest going, the test are confusing if you do not. I thought this course was more difficult than an 1101 should be. Funny professor though.
If you're wanting to take his online class for SCI 1102, DO NOT do it. I repeat DO NOT even sign up. This professor does not give Powerpoints, nor does he clarify what he actually wants. His online quizzes are 10 minutes each, and the questions are irrelevant statistics. He wants you to read every detail of the book he wrote. NEVER AGAIN.
I'm only in week 2 of his online class for 1102. Regretting my decision each day of it. This guy has a lot of resources but this class has a ridiculous amount of work. He expects you to read and know 13 chapters on top of a 73 page reading in 1 week. I wish I would of listened to the reviews. Probably a cool guy but gives way to much work for 1102.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. i am a really good student 4.0 gpa but this class is ridiculous. so much work. he is a really good teacher however his tests are death.
Laposata is a good teacher, but his tests are killers; you really really have to know the material; he likes to throw in obscure questions from the textbook. There's a lot of reading from the textbook (which he co-authored), but the online labs are quick and easy for the most part. Material isn't overly difficult. NOT AN EASY A.
Your grade in the class is made up of 4 tests and the homework online. You absolutely need to study for tests if you want to pass the class. There's no extra credit, and he makes that pretty clear. The class is mainly made up of notes given during lectures, so don't miss class. He's a funny guy which is a plus.
I'm taking Laposata for 1102 online, and it's awful. He gives way too much reading to the point that it's impossible to remember everything for the tests. He grades incredibly difficult on discussion posts as if he expects us to be on his same level of intelligence. Does not teach very well, just basically gives you 100 pages of info & says "here"
Prof. Laposata is the best! He is hilarious and very thorough with his lectures which he relates to the students' experiences. There are only 4 tests and you do need to read, but it's all interesting and only a 12 page average of reading with a simple lab per unit. It's an easy A if you actually try. And you might actually learn something new.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. I failed this class and had to do it again. I studied for the tests and did all the work online and took really good notes and failed by 15 points. He has a very tough grading system. I believe it was only the online homework and tests counted towards your grade and a 10 point extra credit test that everyone takes. AVOID HIM
Tests are so hard and he makes you think very hard about every question so they aren't very straight forward. Attendance isn't mandatory but he only puts a couple of slides on D2L so you have to go to get the notes and even if you get them from a friend it doesn't help much because a lot of what is on the test is what he talks about in class.
Took for online 1102. Lots of reading and work each week. 2 quizzes every week with 5 questions each. If you do all of the readings, the quizzes are not difficult. Tests are difficult. Drops lowest test grade and 3 quizzes. That being said, I did all of the readings and received an A.
Not a lot of work, but grading system kills. 4 test, SO HARD. Know the material or you won't pass. Read the book. Online modules are incredibly easy and take less than 30 minutes per test. Don't skip on the labs, (4 labs, one per test.) Doesn't seem like a lot of work, but it adds up with the studying. Great and funny guy, but not an easy A!
Really knows his stuff, not an easy A you'll need to study but welcome to college. He's a really funny guy.
I expected this class to be easy, but on every test he adds unnecessarily hard and in depth questions from the book and labs. Make sure you understand labs, it's what killed me every test. He said overall a nice & funny professor, I just would never take again due to the fact that his tests are nearly impossible. Grades consist of 4 tests and MES
I expected this to be easy because he makes it seem easy at first. On one test, the class average was like a 60% and he told us it was our fault. Adds very difficult questions to test. No matter how hard you study it is still a challenge. In class, he becomes very off topic and you are very confused.
It was a lot to say the least. I was not expecting the amount of reading and test difficulty for a 1000 level course. Took it as a core requirement, not my major. Recommend taking this course in class unless you have tons of time to dedicate to multiple readings and assignments every week. Tests and quizzes are NOT easy.
This professor is disrespectful & arrogant towards his students and truly doesn't care about helping them pass the class. He makes you purchase the very expensive textbook because he wrote it and wants the profits, however you NEVER use it! Instead, he gives 2+ 80 page packets to read every week along with the 2 weekly quizzes and other activities
Do not underestimate this class. I took this as an online class. I read the material over and over again and still failed most of the quizzes. This is how you pass this class... read the material, take very detailed notes, and don't forget the alternating turn in times if you do this online. Not impossible to pass, just hard to make an A .
READ LABS
This class is only difficult if you do not read the required chapters/behind the science stories and don't come to class or don't study. If you put in work and study the lecture notes and do the online labs and take good notes, receiving an A or B is not difficult. His lab quizzes tend to be difficult sometimes but his tests are pretty clear cut.
Overall decent professor, but class overall was extremely difficult. He tried to trick you on test and is not very straight forward. You HAVE TO do the labs in depth in order to pass the lab quizzes as they are very tedious. You MUST read the textbook and do all of the outside class assignments.
This class is not an easy A. You have to study a lot to do well on the tests and lab quizzes. I spent 8 hours studying for one test but I made A's on all of them. You have to know all of the notes very well and he asks questions based off of things he says in class so GO TO CLASS even though its not mandatory. Read what he tells you to read in book
This was my hardest class of freshman year because of his tests and quizzes. He picks very specific topics for questions and tries to trick you. Class is mandatory because he uses a lot of questions from stuff he says on top of detailed topics. He wrote half the book so he kind of has a big head but knows what hes talking about. Not an easy class
Dr. Laposata is a great professor. he is the writer of the textbooks and uses that material in his lectures. Tests come strait from class so show up. he is able to help when you need it. I have enjoyed his class a lot.
Don't. Just don't. He will purposefully try to trick you on the quizzes/tests. He gives you huge articles to read, and will only ask about small details. He's really rude, and has so many different due times for each assignment.
He's a funny guy, but his class is hard. His powerpoints are not posted to D2L, so in order to know what's being covered for the tests, it's important that you show up and at least listen to his lectures). A lot of content in his tests involves things from the textbook (in which he helped write), so make sure you have access to it.
Its definitely a challenging class, but its not the hardest Ive taken. If you fully read & comprehend the textbook pages, articles, etc. he assigns per unit, you should be okay. He has one extra credit option that helps a lot at the end of the semester. If youre trying to take the easy way out with an online class, look elsewhere.
If you take him for summer, you HAVE to read the assigned links he puts in the folders. You can't just take the quiz last second and rely on the internet. If you can do that, it isn't that bad.
I took this class online and he made it way harder than it needed to be. He gave us countless articles to read and quizzed is over very specific details from them. My saving grace of this class was the fact he drops you 2 lowest quizzes and 1 of your exam grades.
I took his class this semester and it was so hard. I never understood the homework he gave us, or the labs. All of his tests contain minute details from the textbook because he co-wrote it. I memorized the chapter and still failed the test.
Love this guy. Lab quizzes were horribly hard for no reason but tests were a breeze. Does up to 3 bonus questions (which means you can miss 3 questions and still get a 100). The only hw is to do the MES activities which you can find the quizlets for answers if you have to. Pretty solid class.
This professor has great lectures. The 4 test throughout the semester are created from lecture notes (only given in class) and small readings from the textbook. The lab quizzes would be the only way someone could be struggling in the class. You must do those outside of class. If you read them and actually do them you'll be fine on the lab quizzes.
HE DOES NOT TEACH! Power points and that's it. The lecture never makes sense so, come test time it's impossible. There is a LOT of reading, all the labs are done outside of class and there are several pages for each section. There are only 4 tests and 4 quizzes, its easy to get off to a rough start and there is no extra credit.
I took him online and recommend not doing that! Was very difficult test grader and quiz times were too short. Dont take if want easy A
Professor Laposata was great at lectures and posted PDFs online to help aid with studying. His tests were mainly about lectures so attend class! There's a few readings in the textbook and 4 homework assignments which you can find answers to on Quizlet. The only hard part was the lab/lab quizzes which you must do on your own without his help.
Literally do yourself a favor and dont take him. Class is composed of tests, lab quizzes (over 15 page PDFs), and online homework from a textbook. I never made above a 50% on a single assignment (no matter how much I studied) and had to drop the class. This semester Im taking a different professor for 1101, and havent made below a 85% once.
Took his class online. Did not interact with him much but each module has 4 quizzes and a test. Lowest test and 3 lowest quiz grades get dropped. He lets you use outside resources to help with answers. Overall good class
I took Laposata for 1101 last semester - I made a C in the class. However, I took his 1102 online and made an A. His 1102 was pretty straight forward: Four quizzes for every module, 4 unit exams, MES Activities, and the final. He drops the lowest 3 quiz grades and lowest test grade (final included). Overall, his 1102 class was not bad. I recommend.
He tells you at the beginning of the year that he will not drop any test grades at the end of the year and he sticks to that. The lab quizzes are extremely hard and time consuming. The test are pretty straight forward because they are based on the lecture notes, but that means you must attend every class.
why are am failing a class that teaches you about topics such as water and air pollution? Oh, bc my professor is Laposata. Avoid taking him . Test questions are specific. Says attendance isn't mandatory yet takes away bonus points on test if not enough of class shows up...4 tests, each 90 points. Online activities 60 points. Online textbook is $95
Worst experience at KSU. He will not meet outside of class. I was waiting in line to speak with him after class. He was talking to a student about race cars and told me to HURRY UP with my question, so he could continue his race car conversation. Worst than that, his study guides are too far from the actual exam. Be prepared for big study groups!
I have done okay in this class but youre really on your own here. If you can remember what he says (yes like stories and references) remember the PowerPoints, remember outside reading, and remember the chapters and behind the stories youll do fine. If you cant retain a lot of info from diff sources this is not the class for you.
Not the best teacher. Tests and quizzes contain very specific questions. His study guides are not like the tests at all. There are no extra credit opportunities or anything to help your grade if you didn't do well on a test. I don't know many people who did well in his class. Overall not an easy class and I would not recommend.
Teaches from power points that are not posted online, attendance is not mandatory but if you skip more than one class per unit you will not do good on the test. Grades on a point system, homework is online and an easy grade booster. DO THE LABS!!! take the time and actually do the labs, it will be hard to get a good grade without those points.
I really enjoyed Professor Laposata's class, his lectures are interesting and he is pretty funny. His grading system and what you need to do to succeed are very clear. The lab quizzes are hard, do the labs. The tests are easy if you go to class and study the notes and PDFs. He loves to talk about himself, and he thinks he is like the best I love it
Don't skip or you won't do well- notes are from slideshow that he doesn't post online. Super specific tests so study every bit of your notes. Not an easy A-gotta work for it. MUST USE BOOK (he wrote it). Funny and class flies by. But after COVID- 19- tests became ridiculously hard and he rounds ur grades down.
First C I've received. Test questions are very specific. You could study and easily get a low grade on a test. I usually enjoy science but he really made this class a headache due to his tests . Somebody please find this man a wife so he can RELAX ... and if he already has one i'm very surprised because of that snarky attitude of his!
Professor Laposata wants you to do well in his class and gives you the tools you need to do so, you just have to choose to use them. There are four tests, four lab quizzes, and some easy online homework. A lot of test questions are directly from the lectures so coming to class is a must. Laposata is a good speaker, making his lectures interesting.
i would recommend his class if its online because thats the only reason why I got an A. if it was in person i know that id be struggling for a B. make sure you read the textbook and the materials he provides for each module, because the quizzes are from the materials he makes you read that week. as long as youre disciplined youll be fine!
Hope hes not your online professor! For all I know he could be a robot. Super long power points are uploaded for you to take notes weekly thats all the instruction you get. He doesnt interact with you in the slightest and is awful at responding to emails. Make sure to get a thick notebook for notes because theres A LOT. Would not recommend.
Professor Laposata is a really entertaining professor. Make sure to show up to class because he doesn't post everything from class online. As long as you do the readings and watch the videos this class is super easy. He also is funny so his lectures are definitely bearable. There is little to no homework.
Super long power points that you have to take notes on weekly. You literally teach yourself. Quizzes are easy, Tests are meh, Lab quizzes are HARD. Only good thing about this online class is No lockdown browser. Thinks everything is academic dishonesty. One of the writers of the textbook so there's like no answers online.
Dont take unless you have to. Lots of tests, quizzes, and lab quizzes but they are open note. Everything comes from his powerpoints but its very difficult to find answers sometimes and labs are difficult as well. Overall, hes a very average professor and i wouldnt take again.
He wrote the textbook so he knows what he is talking about. Tests can pull from small things in the textbook, but is also not too hard. Do the lab assignments because those lab grades are huge. Initial unit quizzes are very easy. Online activities are simple and straight-forward. Class wasn't too hard, but kind of a pain.
Laposata did little in the way of actual instructing, which is somewhat to be expected for an online course; however, even when I reached out to him for clarification on some things, he was almost entirely unhelpful, sending only short, cryptic responses. Also, the work was either incredibly hard or stupidly simple. Plus, the labs are a pain.
Not the hardest class ever. Mostly review of high school material with drawn-out lectures and what feels like busywork. Textbook was literally written by him and made it seem mandatory to get, but was only used to answer about 3 super-specific questions each test. Not saying don't buy the textbook but it's only used for 3 questions each 35 Q test.
If I could give 0 stars I would, he doesnt care at all about personal issues such as mental health, I had to take a trip across the country to help my friend who had lost their arm and I missed a quiz well he doesnt care. Also hes the one who wrote the textbook so he knows what hes talking about and isnt lenient on anything.
The assignments weren't hard to understand, but the PP's were crazy long, so were the chapters, and if you didn't know/read every single article, watch every video, and memorize everything,it was hard to do well. He didn't answer emails fast, never gave direct answers,&wasn't understanding. I would never recommend him as a professor.
He wasn't terrible considering I got an A but, due to covid this class was asynchronous and I never got to see the teacher. He posted weekly "what to dos" that were easy to follow but hard without direct teacher guidance. You have a LOT of reading if you do it fully online.
I had him during covid so the class was completely online. We had to teach ourselves everything so you have to be willing to read powerpoints and the textbooks. The tests were straight from the power points and he didnt require a webcam. Easy class if you know how to do work at efficient times
Don't even bother trying to email him with a question, he is very short in email responses. He doesn't seem to care about his students wellbeing. His quizzes and tests are absolutely ridiculous, he throws in impossible questions. Makes the class 100% harder than it needs to be. instructions for assignments are usually unclear, and ppts are long. NO
Do not take! His tests are not what you study. Were not PHD students!!
All I can say is Ehhhh. He requires you to buy HIS book and its expensive along with an access code on Pearson. The class is boring. His powerpoint are really long and he does not except late work unless you were in the hospital. The quizzes and test are easy because you are allowed to use notes and the powerpoints. Its just such a bleh class
DONT TAKE HIM!!! He goes over an Easy PowerPoint during class and then gives extremely hard exams with only 50% of the stuff from the PowerPoint. Where does the other 50% of the test come from?! I DONT KNOW! I am a 4.0 student and no matter how hard I study for his exams I make 60s. Take a different professor!!!
I don't even know where to start. The PowerPoint in class is easy but the test are very hard. In his test he will ask question like " My instructor said...." so do not miss class. He wrote the book and therefor has a huge ago. Make sure to do the chapter reading for the test. do the labs and do not take him at all if possible.
There are makeups for missed exams (under certain circumstances), but they're short answer and essays vs the multiple choice exams. He also assumes if students are having difficulty then they just must not want to learn. Incredibly frustrating, felt too hard for just a Gen Ed course.
Lectures were very interesting imo. Downside is you cant miss a single class bc he may ask about something he mentioned on the test. he also doesnt post any notes online so youre kind of forced to go. This class is easy if you like to go above and beyond, but if you dont you will not get an A and probably not a B either. I barely got an A.
Laposata would have simple powerpoint lectures, boring but informative. Then the tests would come and be 5x more difficult! There would be very specific questions like "what happened in this video that we watched on the second day of class?" Looking at the class grades he posts most kids averaged a triple double in failing test! DO NOT TAKE!
I do not recommend taking this class with this professor. All of the exams were highly lecture based and he would put the smallest things from his lectures in there. It was an extremely difficult class for me because I'm not the best note taker. He also does not drop the lowest scores. 10/10 do not recommend.
After the first unit don't let yourself cruise through the next one. It's easy until it's not. Make sure to read your labs thoroughly, although they aren't mandatory, and pay good attention in class despite the lectures being boring. He often uses stuff he talks about in class on his tests. He's pretty chill but the class becomes hard if you slack.
This guy is literally so funny. Respectful caring and deadlines are so far. As long as you don't leave the labs till the last minute and pay attention in class it should be easy.
This class is very hard especially for a first time freshman. Only four major grades that are tests, and these are not easy whatsoever. The labs are okay, but do not wait until the last minute to do them because there is always a lab quiz the next class after the test. Do not recommend.
He very good at explaining all the concepts to help his students get a better understanding. As long as you pay attention and actually do the labs, the class would be easy for you.
I liked him overall, and I earned a good grade in his class- but you really have to work for it. His exams are very nitpicky and pull from many any sources. Attendance is not taken, but if you don't go you likely will not do well on the exams as some materials are only shared in person. Not a terrible teacher, you can get an A/B if you work hard.
he's alright. not the worst professor but definitely not the best. if you want a good grade you need to go to class, read the book and study the labs. the tests consist of questions from the lectures, the labs and the book. JUst try hard and you'll pass
He was a great professor. If you study for the test you will do great! He gives extra credit on test.
Worst professor I have ever had. Yells at students to shut up at the start of lectures. Never seems happy and blames students for majority failing. Unclear on what material is expected for tests and quizzes. Never goes over the labs but has quizzes over them. I would not suggest taking him if you do not want to struggle.
I took this class online. I see a lot of negative reviews on him and those all seem to be in person. If you have the option to take this class online, I'd say go for it. You pretty much just read the text book and take the quizzes/ tests. We had no other assignments so it was pretty straight forward.
Honestly not a bad professor as everyone makes him to be! He answers any questions that you have, I did take this as a summer course but the work was doable! The course itself isn't "hard" but if you don't put any effort it will become tough. I would recommend him to anyone, don't let the bad reviews discourage you from taking his course!!
Super funny and engaging. You can't miss a single class because test questions come from lectures as well as textbook readings. He never goes over the labs but there is a lab quiz the day after every test. Don't slack off and you'll be fine, ask him for feedback on tests and he will go over it with you.
good professor. attendance is mandatory and he does not post slides on d2l. you're graded off of 4 tests and lab quizzes after each exam. some questions on exams are pulled from textbook and other readings. as long as you apply yourself and do the work the class isn't half bad. he's funny and makes lectures enjoyable.would recommend.
Show up to class and you will do well! If you don't like showing up to class then don't take him. He is very good though.
His lectures are really straight forward and easy to comprehend. His tests/lab quizzes are pretty straight forward as well and he tells you exactly what you need to know to do well. Just be aware you need to read a couple of things in the textbook, and the weekly labs outside of class for the tests. He's a nice and funny professor!
He was good teacher. His tests were sometimes obscure, but I got good grades on all of them still. It is just important to go and listen. He gives bonus questions based on attendance, so there were multiple times where i got 25/28 questions right, but it was still a 100 because it was graded out of 25. (3 bonus questions). Made my grade way better!
The grading scale is clear and stated in the syllabus, his lectures are entertaining and useful, and he provides extra credit on each test if the majority of the class shows up. I had him for 1101 and 1102, and would take him again. Attendance is mandatory like every class is college. The lectures provide exactly what will be on the test.
Decent guy but skipping will bite you in the end. Labs aren't turned in but there are still exams for them, and the score-based grading scale makes it hard to get a high grade. The online work isn't that bad though, and you don't read the whole textbook. Overall it's not too bad, but for a Gen-Ed class expect more work than usual.
This is a honest review while some down here are smart or self study. This professor is rude when it comes to asking questions thinking we know the answer. After a test is over, THE NEXT TIME YOU HAVE HIM you will have to take a lab quiz that is sort of treaky. When it comes to labs, he doesn't explain much of it, instead he move on. DO NOT TAKE IT
It's a tough class for any gen ed student. You need to purchase his text book or you will not pass. You need to come to class or you will not pass. Tests are based on his lectures, and test questions will consist of material that he only mentioned in class. He does not actually "review" the test but instead scrolls through answers.Take another prof
I took this as a summer course. It was okay. I would say don't take him unless he is the only option. Quizzes and tests are all open notes, no lockdown browser, but that doesn't mean you'll get a perfect score if you search everything up (no other assignments except MES so your grade heavily relies on them).
Really great in my opinion. Doesn't take roll but due to the fact that he doesn't post his slideshows on d2l you really got to show up if you want to pass. Textbook readings are used in test that aren't talked about in class, but it's included in the 'day one' plan so as long as you skim it you should be fine. Lectures are entertaining and he's fun
His lectures are extremely educational and easy to understand/follow. He's a pretty funny guy and, I think, cares about his students. He offers help before/after his classes and goes over your exams to tell you what you need to focus on next time. I think his class is pretty easy. Yes, you do need to come to class, but it's college.
Lessons flow very smoothly. As long as you're attentive and taking notes, you will excel. Provides study guides for both tests and quizzes which makes things easier. Funny and he knows what he's doing!
he made this class unnecessarily difficult. if you have time, take him, because you're gonna have to spend all your time and energy into this class.
GO TO LECTURESS!! His lectures are pretty straight forward and it's easy to take notes. He's honestly pretty funny but there's basically no other grades besides exams so its do or die. My only mistake was skipping lectures that's where all the test material came from so do that! Also study groups or making friends for when you miss class is clutch.
I took him for Science 1102 and he was a great professor in my opinion. He had an interesting personality like Dr. House from House MD haha.
The class is tough, but engaging lectures and a good textbook make it manageable. Attendance is mandatory, and the lab quizzes can be tricky. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for test prep. Overall, put in the effort and you'll do well.
Professor Laposata is a great guy, his lectures are very heavy and there aren't many ways to get your grade up. If you do poorly on the 4 tests and 4 quizzes, you will get a bad grade for the class.
He's a funny haha guy but DO NOT LACK. Go to his lectures. I don't understand why people pay for these classes, don't attend, and then complain about their grades. I went to every class and did perfectly fine on every test and every quiz. He is very straightforward and the homework is simple. READ THE LABS. I didn't, but you should. TAKE HIM!
Genuinely surprised his rating is this low! He is organized with his tests and materials and goes over exactly what is going to be on the exams. Also, hilarious. I feel like he knows what he's talking about. You do need to study and read, but he tells you exactly what to read and where to look. Really enjoyed his class.
You're only graded on 4 tests, 4 quizzes, and a few homework assignments. He almost never talks about homework except for the first day of class (I didn't even know we had homework until midterms) so that REALLY messed up my grade. His tests are also on topics that he goes over for 5 seconds during his lectures, so pay extreme attention to content.
Very surprised that he has a low rating. He is very charismatic and makes jokes during the lectures to keep you engaged. Very straightforward on what he wants you to do for the labs and how to study for the tests. Make sure you attend class and study well and you will do just fine!
He was a funny guy who was a little odd. It was very lecture-heavy; a textbook is required because he is the author, and he just wants that bag. Class is hard, but honestly, if I had studied more, I could have gotten a better grade. Do the labs, or at least study them. It's a big class, but attendance is required.
As long as you attend class and/or read the textbook sections required for exams (only a few pages per chapter) you will do fine in this class. Professor Laposata is also very funny and easy to pay attention to, he also often lets classes out early and always ended with st least 10-15 min before it was over
Go to class. Sit in front and listen. Make flash cards. Tests are in-person so know your stuff. Do the labs. You will learn a ton. He is always entertaining and smart as heck. He wrote the book, literally. Don't think you'll pull anything over on him. He's seen it all. If you have an issue be upfront and talk to him. He's a good guy.
I would not have him as a professor again im not gonna lie. The amount of time and work I had to put into this class just to get a B was lowkey insane. half the material he wont teach in class, doesn't post the slides, and grades on few things. Im sure hes a good guy and hes kinda funny but if I could go back and not pick him as my teacher I would
Honestly he made the class harder than it should've been, he a cool dude just didn't need to make every quiz feel like a final
I probably would not take again. Friendly guy, but the coursework was a lot and every exam and lab quiz was difficult and needed to be studied for. There was way more to study than what we went over in class. Labs are not required to turn in, but the 10 question quizzes can break your grade. Probably would not take.
Highly recommend finding another sci1101 professor especially if you are an incoming freshman. Accounting over the summer ONLINE was easier than this course. Don't listen to other ratings that tell you to just show up and study. There is plenty of material he doesn't cover but puts on tests. Way too much effort needed for a gen ed
He is a super sweet professor! Many people that complain about their grades in this course haven't put in the effort outside of class. You need to read the chapter he assigns because the test has questions on it, which are basically free answers. Attendance isn't required, but you could get a good grade by just listening to his lectures.
Professor Laposata is a great professor, you just have to put in the work. He is a hilarious and kind dude, but his class is kind of tough, but if you do the notes and study for the exams you'll do great. Lab quizzes are easy except the 3rd one be careful. IF HE ADDS THE ONLINE ACTIVITES, DO THEM plus he doesn't post notes so be there in class.
He was cool & funny but his tests were so hard. You'll have a 10 q lab quiz and a 30 q exam. Lecture heavy. Homework heavy too & its for a grade. Kind of passive aggressive too. Also, if there's not a lot of people attending class he won't give extra credit questions on exam.
Had him in my freshman year, and the class was easy. It's HW through Pearson, labs through Pearson, and an in-person test on Scantrons (you must purchase them). Honestly, it was just a copy-paste of the slides to the test, and I hardly read the textbook. I could have scored higher if I had tried harder.
