I do not think he is a very nice professor, in fact i think he is very rude to his students. he assigns 150-300 pages of reading weekly. his lectures are sort of insane ramblings about conspiracies that try harder to be funny than informative. would not recommend. ID tests very lengthy and difficult. LOTS of writing.

Professor Lasar teaches such interesting classes! You can tell that he has a passion for what he teaches. His classes are heavy on reading and at time his lectures can be dry, but the quizes are easy with a final essay at the end of the quarter. He's pretty funny in class though. Highly recommend taking at least one of his classes.

Lasar is a hilarious man who teaches history in the most compelling way possible. He's a little awkward in office hours when he doesn't know you (who doesn't?), but he'll quickly get comfortable. Plain and simple: You have to take a Lasar course if you're a history major at UCSC.

Professor Lasar gives interesting lectures in HIS 15. He brings up slides, videos and documentaries to show you what happened in each era. Although the lectures are not mandatory, I strongly recommend attending his lectures. Homeworks are 5 quizzes and 5 short essays. One of the most entertaining and competent professors Ive ever had at UCSC. I was wildly interested in his class even though I was taking it as a GE. While there were multiple essays, I was able to get away with not buying the textbook or reading the assigned reading, even though I should have, because the selections were so interesting.

Literally the worst professor at UCSC in my opinion. I am a history major and I've had the misfortune of taking his class twice. It's easy, the material is very basic, but he's very bombastic, was very rude to my outside of class, and I just don't think he's a very nice person. I think he just wants to read conspiracy books rather than teach.

Matthew Lasar is another far left professor. Not in of itself a bad thing, but he tries his best to tell History though his own slanted lens. 1 textbook and 5 independent books which have an obvious left bias. Another required class used to indoctrinate young minds. Would be better if he kept his opinions to himself and let us read factual books.
