He is a really smart teacher who knows what he's talking about. he's very into theories of math which can be very boring!!! if you are a hard-core math person, then take him. one good thing about him is that he makes the midterm and the final for all calc classes.
Makes the final for all classes, but his midterm is the hardest, as well as the quizes. Hw is the same for all calc classes so there is no way to avoid that. If you're good at calc and understand the material he presents you should get at least a B+.
I really enjoyed taking Calc I with Leingang. Though I didn't get a very good grade, that was not his fault by any means. Makes lectures really interesting: interjects math-history and even pop-culture trivia in them while not losing sight of teaching important concepts. Really friendly and approachable. Highly recommended!
He'll make you hate calculus. You can tell he's very intelligent and knows what he is talking about, but he makes concepts too complex and wastes time deriving proofs you'll never need to know again instead of doing examples. Overall, fairly decent teacher. Quizzes are easy. Online homework each week is tedious, but thats all calc 1 classes.
Leingang is the deputy departmental head for undergrad math. He writes the final for all classes, so if you take him, you'll be used to him for the final where others won't. His teaching is very fluid, but he spends far too much class time covering theory for its own sake without demonstrating how to apply it to exam-style questions.
Leingang is an amazing professor. In a class of 200 students, he actually takes the time to try and get to know everyone personally. He tries to make the subject material interesting and sometimes he incorporates his daughter which is adorable. He assigns 1 homework per week and he has a midterm and a final. He's awesome! Don't hesitate to take him
Seriously I found him to spend wayyy to much time dealing with concepts that were irrelevant. He is so much harder than the other professors and his midterm is by far harder than other professors. Plus you can't argue with him because he is head of the department. He is a smart and nice guy though
Leingang is truly an amazing professor. If you have to take calc, make SURE you get into his class! he made calc lecture somewhat interesting, and has great powerpoints that he posts that you can study off of later.also, he's super funny!
Funny guy, approachable, wants to get to know his students. I personally wasn't too big a fan of his teaching style, since it involved too much theory and PowerPoints. But if this is your second go-around at Calc 1, I'd highly suggest him, because he does give you a deeper understanding of the material as promised.
Matt spends too much time on concepts, and not enough time doing problems! His tests are hard, but with a LOT of work you can get an A. The TA's are really helpful, though. He teaches everything on a powerpoint; i personally hate that. On the bright side, he speaks english and makes the final for all sections. Good Luck!
I liked his powerpoints - saves a lot of time and easy to review later for exams. hated Webassign - hwks are very time-consuming and not necessarily reflective of exams. He's no Jaime Escalante, but the man is very passionate about teaching calculus. Go see him during office hours and get to know him.
I have had friends telling me that they hate him. I dont, but the class is not easy. Word of advice, take Harvey instead. His midterm is so much easier than this prof's.
His class is interesting. It's not hard to understand and the quizzes are easy.
His lectures are very interesting and he is very hot;)easy A without worries
He really knows his stuff. Powerpoints are very clear. Spends too much time on origins of proofs and deriving them. All we want to know is how to get the right answers! The Web-Assign is extremely time-consuming but you can't avoid it. HW is graded strictly and the quizzes are short and a little tricky. Just a midterm and final. Best CalcI can get.
He's brilliant and funny. Reminds me of Ted Mosby from How I Met Your Mother. He is the head of Calc Prog, so he writes the finals. But both the final and midterm is hard especially the conceptual word probs. He cares about his students.Very helpful and approachable. He would respond to e-mails. There'll be quizzes. But again, brilliant, choose him.
If I had never taken AP Calc in high school I probably would have done terribly in the class. The professor is a nice guy but he moves through topics quickly and spends too much time on proofs which confuses everyone. If you've taken calc before, this class will be a breeze. In my opinion, all quizzes and the midterm/final were easy.
nice and funny guy. expalins things well
I recommend him if you have taken AP Calc in highschool. Otherwise, he is really conceptual and you'll have to teach yourself most of the stuff. He uses webassign for homework (in addition to written hw) and that's basically death. If you know calc, you don't have to go to class. Not the best, but at least you can understand him.
Leingang is an interesting character. He is nice he does the "this is my favorite calc class joke" in every calculus class. He does the tree strech when ppl are falling asleep in his class. He is a very nice profesor . But calculus itself has concepts that are hard to grasp or easely undertand so you will need to do use the txtbook alot
Take him if you're really good at calc. And I mean REALLY.
Intelligent and clear in lecture. Class, however, is HARD. Especially calc2. Very concept heavy. Seems more geared towards math majors than anyone else. Webassign (online hw) was torture. So was written hw. Had to do proofs for hw in calc2! I say avoid, there are prob easier profs out there
He's a smart guy, but his downfall is that he teaches straight from the powerpoint, so if you don't kno how he got from step 1 to step 2, you'll be pretty much lost as to how he got to that answer. My class did horribly on the final, therefore the curve was pretty generous, although he doesnt curve all the time..Prior AP Calc is a must to get an A
Best. Professor. Ever. --> Take him for the upper level Calculus Classes and you will not regret it. You get the grade you deserve and he does everything he can to help you learn.
Professor Leingang is one of the best calc professors ever. He's clear in his lectures and uses worksheets to get students involved. He's dorky and quirky in an adorable way. His tests/quizzes aren't unfair or extremely difficult. I learned a lot from him. Highly recommend! Do whatever you can to get in his class. :)
take him if you really like math and really GOOD at math!
His teaching techniques makes sure you learned the material before you leave class. After he teaches a section, he hands out worksheet to do then he calls on someone to do it on the board and goes over the answer. He is excellent, funny, and answers all questions.
I do not know how he got his PHD from Harvard. He is not good math at all!! He can only cover what text book says, but cannot explain anything complicated. Even though he is nice and approachable, he is not a genius in math. No wonder he does not do any research now, simply teaching calculus....
By far the best professor I have had in all of my years at NYU. He is extremely intelligent, approachable, and caring. He wants all of his students to succeed and understand the material. He does an excellent job of explaining the concepts and getting the class involved through worksheets. You will leave this class being amazed with him knowledge.
Flexible, committed, and knowledgeable. Requires participation - which is kind of difficult for a calc 3 lecture. If you are there to learn and work hard you'll do fine, he is very understanding and helpful.
In class: this is how you integrate. Exam: find the total perimeter of an infinite ever-growing fractal in series form. What even.
The class structure is awesome. You learn the lesson through clear examples and then do a worksheet about what you learned/harder examples. Quizzes and exams are really straightforward. The only draw back is he does written homework through web assign so you have to scan in your work to your computer.
Quizzes every week, but he drops the lowest 2. The homework is ridiculously hard, but he grades pretty leniently and drops the lowest grade. Grading isn't too bad. Just pay attention and take good notes.
He went to univ of Chicago and Haravard so he knows he math and knows how to make diffcult problems. Test and quiz averages are often below 70%. Weekend webassign proofs are difficult and take hours. Calc 2 is not a required course for premeds. I recommend taking a more useful math class or an easier calc professor so you can balance your classes.
Leingang is definitely one of the smartest and most friendly professors I have had so far. Lectures are crystal-clear, and office hours are helpful. However, his major downfall is assigning ultra-difficult problems on both the written assignments and midterms. I would only recommend him if you're really into math or wanna tackle difficult problems.
Great professor, but he gives extremely challenging exams and homework. Somewhat of a tough grader. He speaks really fast and assumes previous knowledge in Calculus, so if you don't have a strong interest or foundation in Calc, you will probably have a hard time.
Very clear in his explanations but gives ridiculously tough test questions.
I admit that he is a very smart guy, buy he regards himself a genius. Sometimes His hand writing can be illegible, and he talks too fast. Homework and midterms are tough. Don't recommend to take his class if you are not interest in calculus.
Lectures were always very well planned and structures - his notes were abundantly clear and were always followed by practice worksheets and in class exercises. Homework was challenging but doable.
He was such a fun teacher. He had a lot of fun with the subject he taught. Even though he would let out the occasional corny joke, I still laughed. He's the epitome of a dad. He was very helpful with feedback and made sure you really understood it. He was very accommodating with office hours. Had him for Calc I and II. Would recommend
Easy class if you've already taken at least Calculus AB. Hard class if you haven't. Lectures are half-baked and studying the webassign questions is your best chance at doing well on quizzes and exams.
He is smart definitely. However what he taught in class is exactly the same in the textbook. Gives lots of homework and requires us to use Latex. Although I love coding, the homework process is tedious and time-wasting as you actually can complete it way faster if written homework allowed. Midterm is standard, but every weeks' quiz is annoying.
Really tricky, I only suggest to those who are able to give up on everything else in their semester. HW qs are very interesting, but you budget most of your week to be working on them, quizzes are every other class. Exams are definitely tricky, but he curves them up quite a bit. If you want a real challenge, take this class, otherwise don't.
Prof Leingang teaches well but taking his course isn't the best idea because he gives a lot of homework which requires writing tedious LaTeX code. There are weekly quizzes. The lectures, quizzes and homework are entirely based on the book. But he experiments with his exams and gives challenging questions. He does curve his exams which is helpful.
Leingang is a seriously underrated prof. Sure, he gives a decent amount of work and he makes you use LaTeX, but if you go to class, do his homework and pass his quizzes, you'll be in good shape. For a lot of profs this is NOT true. Not to mention he really cares. He'll go out of his way to help you and puts so much effort into teaching.
Honors Calc III is a lot more about the conceptual than the practical, so be prepared to study calculating examples on your own in the book. However, Leingang does a good job of getting weird concepts to be understandable. Hard-ish weekly quizzes and homeworks, so study up and learn LaTeX. Make sure to participate and go to class.
Very respected and teaches great. You can tell he is passionate about math and teaching and really knows his stuff. But avoid him unless you are okay with getting a B-level grade after spending 20hr weekly on this course.
I took honor calc3 instead of the regular calc3, which is by far one of my most irrational decisions. Leingang is a tough grader, even if you attend every lecture you still couldn't get full credit of participation. He has great passion in math especially geometry, which means he expects you to be as passionate as him to attain his standards.
I had Prof. Leingang for Discrete Mathematics and he was not the best at teaching. He went incredibly fast and expected you to know the complex material after a 30-minute talk about it. His lectures are entirely based on the textbook so going to class is the same as just reading the book, negating the entire purpose.
Leingang is a great teacher, and if you're some one who likes math, you'll find the class quite fun. (Discrete Math). Weekly quizzes are straight from the assigned textbook problems,HWs will usually be from the book but must be coded on latex (time consuming). Exams are easy! I've heard that he' s really tough on his hon calc 3 class though.
This professor gives very clear explanations to even the most complicated concepts. His classes are very organized, strictly following the syllabus. Grading is a bit strict but definitely fair. Homework are carefully selected, very entertaining to work with. Definitely don't regret taking his course.
Like his class in general. He is a kind and easy-going teacher. You may also learn a lot about math if you take his class frequently. Homework is not too much. The only frustrating thing is that Latex is a mandatory requirement, which costs lots of time.
Class reminded me of my hs classes tbh. Encourages group participation and has mandatory attendance. As for the guy himself, he has a pretty dry personality and seems to try to apply what he learned in psych 102 to his interactions with his students. Also felt the need to mention that he drove an electric car.
He's an okay teacher. He's bad at explaining things so I used Youtube and the textbook to learn. Lectures were just a repeat of the book. Even when I asked for help I usually left more confused :( . But you can tell he cared because he always gave help. HWs are due every fri and quizzes every mon (so time-consuming). Exams were pretty hard.
Prof. Leingang reminds me of a grade school teacher. He marked attendance, graded participation, had student do Do Now questions at the beginning of lecture, and remembered every student's names. He manages to make the complex concepts of Honors Calc III digestible. However, midterms and weekly quizzes were rather difficult.
Pretty good professor. Good at helping to understand the material, is accessible, and kind. The workload can be sometimes heavy but is def manageable if you manage your time correctly. Test are hard but fair. Weekly quizzes are not as hard. There are also some easy A assignments he gives that allow you to boost your grade too.
Professor Leingang was a nice lecturer. Those who participated all thoroughly understood concepts. He has a lot of small assignments (more so to check understanding) and is really good about helping students and applying concepts. Honestly, I have no clue why some of these other ratings are so harsh to him.
Could you imagine a 10%-weighted group project damaged my overall letter score from A to B+? My points lose here are the same as those lost at the other 90%... Overall, he's not an unacceptable guy, but be careful that you'll face a bunch of tiny homework that only counts 3% and DIFFICULT midterm 3. Kind of a tough grader.
Professor Leingang is best suited for individuals who are truly interested in math. That being said if you are looking for an easy math class where you rinse and repeat formulas, this is not the class for you. I think many of the bad reviews are biased by the difficulty of discrete math, not Professor. No one is just immediately great at proofs.
Bad studying habits aside, this class is definitely manageable. MATHUA120 can be dry since it's mostly getting familiar with mathematical language, but prof Leingang made it interesting where possible. He's really tolerant and understanding, so I can imagine enjoying his class a lot more for another math class (like calc). I would take him again.
Professor Leingang gives different kinds of assignments to help improve all kinds of learning skills. Discrete math is definitely difficult, but these assignments help a lot. They improved my ability to write proofs and learn from textbook to a huge extent. Attendence is not mandatory, but you will do much better if you really come to class.
He's super nice & chill and I had him over zoom. Just look at his slide and understand the material, most test material is from slides.
A lot clearer in lectures than previous math instructors. He has a good vibe and tries to get to know his students. I took a medical leave and he was very understanding and flexible with me as I got back on track. Course material is challenging but he explains it in a way that makes it as easy as possible.
Lots of assignments, lots of reading, some jokes. Passionate about math and educating. Repeats the entire textbook reading in lecture plus worksheet problems here and there. Personally, one of the classes that drained me the most.
He is a good professor and nice person, but he is a really tough and strict grader. The rubric is not clear at all, I got points taken off for not assigning pages when turning in works on gradescope, not simplifying fractions, or didn't put fractions into decimals. Also assigns heavy readings that make going to lectures pointless. 4 quiz per week.
Avoid at all costs. Extremely condescending and doesn't listen to student feedback.
You will do well on his class if you figure out the content in his lectures.
Super caring and friendly. The friendliest professor you will find at NYU. Only tests on whats taught. Very accessible and passionate guy. I love him
Truly wants to get to know you as a student. Helpful during office hours throughout the week. Lots of time is required/effort to do well in the class if you aren't naturally good in math, but he sees your efforts. Super rewarding because you'll learn a lot. Exams are created super fair if you keep up with material from slides/past exams he posts.
He truly cares for his students, and provides fair exams. He explains concepts clearly and in a manner that's easy to understand. He gifts you with a strong foundation in Calc and in Maths in general. He will challenge you, and patiently explain to you until you understand. He, inspired me to pursue Maths. Don't hesitate to take him.
Harsh grader but caring and wants you to succeed. If you attend his office hours regularly you will be fine.
The hardest I have ever worked for a C. Never have I done so much homework for one class. Upwards of 5 hours every day. Avoid if you are able.
Not the worst professor out there. He's pretty fair about grading. Class is pretty dry as it's just a regurgitation of the textbook, so you can get by the whole class yourself with the assigned readings. He is very organized so there won't be a problem with that, but if you aren't on top of your schedule, it'll be a hard time for you.
Not the worst, not the best. There was a lot to take in for Calculus III. The course itself was also difficult. Midterms were heavy as it had all sorts of questions. Also makes us do pre-quizzes; they were annoying but only requires us to ask a question to earn full credit. Overall mid professor, but a nice person.
He was cool. Super funny if you like dry humor. The content of the class we quite heavy but he explains everything fairly well. Not a bad choice for a Discrete Math Prof. One con was the pre-quizzes due before class, but luckily they force you to learn and they're graded by completeness. Had a lot of office hours and was very responsive by email.
Tough grader
I get all A except for this class. If you want to get a good grade, avoid this professor at all costs. Four quizzes per week, an extremely tough grader, and a lot of homework.
Second semester having him, this time for Discrete Math. Very heavy exams - multiple choice, multi select, true/false with justifications, and free response questions. Very tired of them. There are online quizzes before and after each class. If you take him, be sure to get ready to work for this or Calculus III.
Very accessible if you have any questions but is not super lenient. Grades the polished proofs are very hard but the weekly homework papers and the post quizzes are decently easy. Midterms are a bit tricky and the questions are hard the understand in the writing section and the MC section is a bit hard. Other than that, not bad.
He is a nice person, but a tough grader. His grading criteria is stricter than that of any other sections. If you want to challenge yourself, then take his class. Otherwise, avoid.
he seems like a nice person but he just cant teach. He reads off the slides and repeats everything out of the textbook. The polished proofs are graded very heavy and the midterms are very hard. The homework is very time-consuming because we have to code them on latex and he assigns 4 quizzes per week. I'd avoid him tbh.
This semester has been extremely tough due to the way the course was taught. While he is knowledgeable in math, the teaching style didn't work for me. The lectures were complex and felt like polished long essays, which made it hard to understand new concepts. It often felt easier to learn from the textbook than to follow the lectures.
His lectures are organized and he keeps all the materials organized but the lecture is copied straight from the textbook without elaborating. He also does not answer questions and rarely provides useful feedback. If you love math take him, otherwise avoid.
I found his course more frustrating than educational, and I think there's much room for improvement in teaching methods to make the material more accessible and the assessments fairer. The assessment methods were tough, with frequent quizzes and a strict grading curve which shows off his math talents instead of helping students learn effectively.
His lectures are inspirational, diving deep, and also very hard. His course involves a lot of professional mathematical knowledge and lets you have a profound understanding of every aspect.
organized class but a lot of work. lectures are boring and grades really strictly. he doesn't really answer questions and just gives u a shrug when u ask. definitely more organized than some of the other discrete profs so wouldn't be a bad option for a required class but be prepared to put in a lot of work. accessible outisde of class
Tough grader, Too many slides, Online quiz before and after each class, Very fast homework deadlines (quiz due second day after each class), Very heavy exams: multiple choice, check all that apply, true/false with justifications, and free response and they are very challenging. Be prepared to put in intense amount of work if you take him.
No doubt that calc 3 itself is really hard.. Prof. Leingang actually tried to make the dull material more fun and more engaging in class. Weekly written homework + weekly in-class quizzes + 2 midterms and 1 final. Not hard if you are interested in math. DO go to his office hours; he replies email very fast (within a day normally)
2 post quizzes and 1 written hw per week is a lot but it actually helped me a lot to understand the material way better. The lecture would not make sense if you dont put time into the textbook readings and exercises. The class itself is fun but is indeed challenging since it is so different than calc or any other math classes ive taken before.
He explains everything very well and clearly, and he is very responsive and caring. But he is a tough grader. 4 quizzes per week, strict grading criteria of polished proof, and seldom give full participation grade.
Slides are useless and his way of explaining Calc 3 makes this subject 10 times harder. Lots of workload and homework is hard and useless. Relied on youtube to understand this subject otherwise I would definitely fail this class. Exams are extremely hard so be prepard. Generous curve though.
Definitely take his class
he is good person, but his slides are useless
Meticulously organized. Always posts some enrichment material after lecture on Brightspace. Goes above and beyond the textbook at times, although lectures mostly regurgitate said book. Unfortunately has a tendency to neglect struggling students.
I really wanted to like this professor. But I end up feeling stupid in his class instead.
One of the worst subjects to learn in my life! And the worst teacher I have had so far. Spending more time figuring out how to get rid of him instead of how to study for this course. The class is literally a bomb.
his lectures are just whats on the textbook. he assigns a quiz before each class GOING THROUGH THE MATERIAL FOR THAT CLASS, and the entire course is literally just read the textbook chapter -> do the quiz -> go into class and learn what you just read. at the very least he simulcasts lectures on zoom.
Decent instructor, lectures were pretty clear and easy to follow. Only issue is if you don't understand on the first explanation, he wont break it down but just expect you to understand it. Quizzes before each class are kind of annoying but its not too bad. Weekly quizzes every other class as well.
I don't know why this guy is getting paid. Do better Mat.
This guy is a dry but fine lecturer, but has an enormous ego about his teaching and his courses. He expects people to commit an insane amount of time to the course. Assigns so much work—all small, but annoying and not helpful—due daily, even on Sat. Can't ever seem to get a break from this class even though in reality it's easy stuff. Strict tests.
He is fine person, he's lectures are fine and interesting. I think most of the time he covered much more than the text book, but sometimes there are also ocassions that he didn't cover the textbook. That's a little bit tricky. Also he suppose you to spend a lot of time on this course. I think he is a teacher between ok and good.
Tends to lecture beyond what is necessary to understand Calc 3 which can be confusing but exams are reasonable. Spends time getting to know each student and will notice the effort you put into the class. Slideshows and brightspace page can be overwhelming but are useful if you don't take notes. Posts everything after or a bit before class.
The course is not extremely difficult, but he assigns a lot of pointless tasks that makes it very painful.
Prof. Leingang is the best professor at Discrete Math I've seen! You can attend the morning class via Zoom and he'll still count your attendance. The lecture typically starts with a funny poll, and the contents are interesting and easy to follow. The course is well organized. Take him for Discrete!
Has a MASSIVE ego. Very unapproachable and does not offer help on HW. Weekly quizzes that and other bs in the class that feels like "busy-work" rather than actual learning. 5% participation grade is graded subjectively...
Very passionate lecturer, but forgets that students are not going to pick up a concept as quickly as he thinks. Pure attendance not graded, if you want participation points you have to actively participate in class and go to office hours. A lot of work outside of class, exams are exactly like practice/homework. Very responsive outside of class
This class hit me like a truck, but professor Leingang was great. He's very passionate about math and energetic in class. There is a lot of homework to help with practice as well as weekly quizzes that I tried my best to prepare for and didn't do very well. He does have a lot of office hours which can be helpful if you have a specific question.
He's great at teaching and very nice. He actually answers questions on the discussion boards & he gives pre-class surveys where you can ask more questions. That said, tons of work, quizzes every class, & you have to read the txtbk to do the surveys. Lectures sometimes have extra info not in txtbk that you need to know. Curved a lot in the end tho.
For the people who say Calc 3 is easier than Calc 2, it is not. I personally would not recommend the YT videos he has in brightspace. Instead, learn a bit about the general topic on your own, then look at the textbook. Sometimes, trying the WA can also help. Put a genuine question into the pre lecture survey. Finish assignments a day before.
F this mf he ruin my whole semester
The exams average are all about 60, and he gives almost no curve. Run!
he's a good person, but needs to slow down in lectures
He's an amazing person and lecturer. Everything is so organized in lecture. A lot of work tho, you have quizzes before and after lectures. However, they are super helpful. Lecture is proof heavy, and a lot of definitional questions on exams, and some of them are tricky. Amazing professor! Take him if you love math!
good professor, pretty kind and caring about his students. tests are surprisingly difficult, averages are very low. doesnt seem like we're quite prepared for what's on the exams in class.
Take him if you have brain damage
You get pre-quiz, post-quiz, in-class poll for EVERY single lecture! Also, he has homework sheet every week (also counts for grade). Totally 2 midterms and 1 final, which is graded HARSH, the mean is about 60% and this man only curved slightly. The content is way over scope (lots of niche theorem), I would never take him again.
if you are bad at math AVOID 100% !!! super hard. while he is a nice guy himself, lectures make no sense and he DOES NOT CURB even tho the average is always 60%. only good thing is he has a bunch of assignments so like if u pass fail it u can get away with DOOK scores on midterms and final. never take this class if u r not good at math tho horrible
Poor at explaining topics and his slides can be hard to follow. I learned a lot more about this course by myself rather than his slides that he speeds through. There is a good amount of homework but it's spread out somewhat to where you can manage it. I would say the course isn't even that bad, but personally I had to teach it all to myself.
He is HORRIBLE
His reviews sum it up: most will struggle, only few will soar. LOTS of hw. Can't stress this enough. LOTS of hw, but they help you learn. Not very helpful in explaining concepts. Not like other math profs (beware). Records/posts all lectures. Can join on Zoom. Attendance not necessary. Difficult exams compared to other profs. Friendly enough dude.
He often uses videos from Selin Kalaycioglu. Just take her if possible. Prof Leingang is for the ones who love math. Only nice things were that he is very supportive of trans folk and I had kind TAs who gave a lot of credit on FRQs.
evilllllllll evil evil evil man do not take him lest you wish to fail becuase of a turkey trotter no curve when avg was in the 50s, the TAs are evil too. graded unfairly and took off points for no reason. once ta just didn't show up to recitation without warning.
Bad Midterms, His slides are not great and doesn't teach that well overall, I personally just self studied the whole thing
I am not able to get 4.0 even in the first year of college....I am cooked. X_X
DON'T take him as your Discrete prof. Nice person, but man, he goes way too fast in lectures. Very hard to keep up with; not the most helpful when trying to understand which specific areas I should practice for the exams. If you're a math nerd, you'll love him. If you're taking him just for credit, good luck... don't take him, ruined my semester!
He gave a bad curve for final grades and he doesn't teach well. He just shows a problem and the answer, barely reviewing the steps that lead you to the answer.
He's energetic and entertaining in class but is unable to teach. The homework only deepens the confusion. He doesn't post the solution of practice exam until weekend. You can visit his office hours relentlessly, but you'll always be met with the same polished smile and the empty refrain: “Reference to the textbook.”
1. Take good notes. Instead of answering questions, the professor and TA's often respond with “refer to notes” 2. Everything's in scope for exam, including recitation/hw questions that he legit copies pastes into exams 3. Attend all lectures cuz he goes over concepts that sometimes aren't in textbook and like I said, it'll be in scope for exam
A great professor for a tough course. It's a lot of work, but he ensures to keep lecture information valuable, and it is all relevant to what you will be tested on. Hard, but fair.
