He tries to make chemistry as understandable and interesting as possible. He also is very approachable and understands the stress students are under. Extremely funny as well!
awsome guy, always comments about family life but still gets the material done. compared to other prof's he's the best. ahm ahm ochem UPG. as for grading, you better put forth some major effort. if you want fair, take DRL
Awesome, caring teacher. He truly cares about his students and tells us he wants us to succeed. He holds numerious study sessions, on his own time, just to help his students. He is truly dedicated to his students and wants them all to do well.DO NOT TAKE KATZMAN!
If you enjoy learning about your professor's night life, by all means take this class. Otherwise, avoid him! He is not helpful at all when it comes to classwork, and his classroom demeaner is awful.
Really great when it comes to the amount of material learned. Relates to students well since just out of college. understands what students are going through. was really easy to get a hold of. keeps class interesting by telling personal stories.
He's awesome
Very helpful professor. Tests were hard, but as long as you know the material you should be fine. He makes sure you know it. He also gives extra help to anyone who needs it. Great teacher.
This class is half chemistry and half an AA meeting. If you like to learn chemistry and LOVE drinking stories, then this is going to be your favorite class. P.S. His test are hard as hell.
Chemistry is a hard subject as it is, but he makes the class worth it. He's got a good personality and is very easy going. Probably one of my favorite professors here.
My favorite teacher ever. Teachers the material well. if you dont understand he makes sure you understand. Delays tests to help if you need it more. Take all his chem classes if you can. Make class interesting and fun by telling stories and jokes. Dont listen to anyone who gives him a bad rating because you must be crazy not to get an A in he
coolest professor out there dont take advantage though
Ludere is both funny and informative...If you have the chance, take him.
Best science prof at UPG.
matt is the man. who else is there 5 of 5 days a week and will stop what he is doing to answer your questions? just don't go to his office with a blank homework or he'll flip out. +12 page tests arent uncommon here, but with the effort this class is a sinch. By far the best teacher in the last 2 years to come to UPG
Luderer's the best--Luderer for President!! Haha...Greatest prof...Fun and knows what he's doing...Hey, how come my class didn't get to see the bear?! J/k.
The Best science teacher at UPG. He gets his points across and keeps class interesting. His tests are long and hard but if you study you should do fine. He tests on what he teaches so pay attention and dont piss him off and he will be the best teacher you have had at college.
If you want a professor who doesnt have a stick up his ass then this is the class to take. I am not saying it is easy and you have to work hard but he is there to help. I never thought going to an O Chem class would be fun but he has that kind of personality. So either you can go kill yourself with katzman or have a good time with Luderer
He da man. Very dedicated to his students and had study sessions on his own free time. He makes class fun and had a good attitude. He's not easy, but you can get an A! Just dont take him to a bar!
luderer is awesome! he is always there to help his students.
excellent prof!
Very good professor. Always avaiable to students and makes his points very clear. His tests are hard but if you put in enough work you will get good grades, and if you have any questions he will help. He also manages to keep the course interesting even though its not necessarily an interesting class.
I never expected to enjoy any chem class let alone a summer session of organic chemistry-but Luderer made it happen! The combo of the well structured lectures/notes & his easy going attitude made this a very enjoyable class. The material is difficult but if you put in the time & effort and go to the study sessions that he has, you'll do fine!
I have had Dr. Luderer for Chem 1, Ochem 1 and 2 and Labs. He is a wonderful teacher, and is always willing to help his students. As for tests they are not easy and are long but that is a good thing, because he test on everything, which gives you more of a chance of showing him what you know. Also he gives A LOT of bonus. Def, take luderer!
Dr. Luderer is the best professor any student could every ask for. He's so nice and understanding, and always available when ever you need help. I've had him for Ochem I & II and senior research, and I would recommend him to anyone! :)
Awesome teacher. The best I've had. Very helpful and friendly.
Awesome professor... easy to understand, gives good examples, ALWAYS willing to help, even if your girlfriend gets mercury on herself and shuts down the lab... definatly recommended, wish i could have him teach all my classes, even tho he give me the middle finger and i call him an ****, just awesome... doesnt act like a jerk, like that corey guy
Loved him...take him for whatever you can!!
AWESOME prof! Willing to help however he can. Very clear, good attitude, great sense of humor, wonderful guy just to talk to. Tests are very fair, long, and loaded w/ extra credit. Show up, pay attention, and you'll be fine, seriously. No textbook use. We all loved him. Take him seriously and he'll take you seriously. Just a great guy all around.
If all of the educators in the system were like Dr. Luderer, everyone would be a lot better off. Always willing to help. Will go the extra mile. Wants to see you succeed. Most importantly, he has the ability to transfer the knowledge he has to you. No ego and he can relate to the student. Absolutely the best professor I have ever had.
Dr. Luderer was the best teacher i ever had for sure. dont even consider taking another teacher for any of ur chemistry classes. he makes class interesting and really knows his material. very easy to talk to and is always around to answer questions. great teacher
Hes a good professor but you def need to go to class and keep up cause if you dont your done
I had Dr. Luderer for Chem 2, and Ochem 1 and 2. He's is the best science teacher I have ever had. He challenges on you on tests but always gives bonus and curves. He's a great person in general and will talk to you about anything. He keeps your attention in class and makes a hard class fun. I learned (and retained!) a LOT from his classes.
very good prof his tests and quizzes are very long, but nothing tricky. He gives tons of bonus points. If you go to class and study you're good. He is very helpful as well.
I had Dr. Luderer for General Chem 2, and Organic Chem 1 & 2. His classes were all wonderful. They were incredibly challenging, I've never studied harder in any other class than organic chemistry. But he makes class fun and explains things well and makes it easy to retain the information. Definitely recommend him!
I had him for chem 2 and ochem 1 and 2 he was great for everything except ochem 2 he lost interst in his students and thought that ochem was the only class students should be focused on. He gave way too much work and only read packets. He used to be a good teacher.
This is going to sound horrible, but I'm going to miss O-chem with Luderer, I wish all UPG teachers were like him. It is amazing how much time he puts to help his students. An excellent teacher, His tests are long but not tricky at all, he gives tons of bonuses. If you fail his class, I'm sorry to say it but you are stupid.
His class is difficult but if attended on a regular basis it is completely passable!
i had organic chemistry 1 and 2 with him. a great professor, was very clear on the material he taught, he gave tests/quizes promtly, within 3 three days. was easily approachable for questions outside class. because of him, i am now a chem major. he inspired to work harder and achieve my goals. his class will inspire u to work harder. btw, he s hot.
Great teacher for Ochem!!!
Very hard class but he makes it fun and interesting. quizzes and exams are many pages long, but if you look over the notes and goto class you will be fine. gives many bonus pts as well! overall, he's def. a good professor to take!
lab is very annoying... 2 quizzes and the final is cumulative plus a 5 pg paper at the end. he doesnt grade too bad but wasn't my favorite lab professor. Miss Mamros is a better choice.
he picks favorites and he will give you the grade he thinks you should get. I was not impressed with him. He does mess around alot in class but other times he very test oriented.
wait until you get to oakland. he's a nice guy and he goofs around, but he makes ochem a lot harder than it needs to be. there's no need to have a test on 100 pages of notes...if you take it with him, youll see what i mean...im waiting to take ochem2 in oakland...
If you fail his class you really must not care about your grade. He basically gives you a grade for trying your hardest. You don't have to be a top student to get top grades in his class. Tons of bonus points and opportunities for bonuses. Honest teacher. If you're honest, you'll be successful. He really cares about his students & their grades!
He tries to keep it real, but doesn't try too hard to be cool. He knows where his place is as a teacher. And he really cares about his students grades
Great professor. I actually enjoy going to class. People who says hes a bad teacher are just coplainers. Its college, so a test on a hundred pages of notes is the norm. If you can't handle it find a new major. I've talked to my buddies who take ochem at other schools, and trust me Luderer is way better.
great prof! as long as you goto class and study you'll do fine. hes such a nice guy and you really learn alot!
He's a nice/cool teacher and will give you the notes on the chapters but requires you to memorize all the 3X+ pages of notes including the definition.
Great Teacher.Hard Course. Must Study, however if you fail you didn't try at all. He gives many opportunities for points.
Absolutely amazing professor. I never thought I would ever enjoy any chem class but he makes it very interesting and gives you everything you need to succeed. You just have to apply yourself. Nicest guy and willing to help you succeed in any way. Highly recommended.
He is by far the best Ochem teacher in the Pitt system. I took ochem 1 at UPJ and got a B+...I went to UPG and took Dr. Luderer and got an A in ochem 2...He is such a cool guy and will go out of his way to help you..He actually makes ochem fun and enjoyable and you really need to try to get a bad grade in his class..
Love...this ...professor!!!! he's one of the best professors I think ill get my whole time spent in college! He's funny, helps, and serious when need be (very rarely) but you'll learn a lot. Go for Luderer!
I personally don't like his teaching style at all. He just reads his notes from a projector and some test materical he doesn't cover. I also didn't have a good background in Chemistry in highschool, so if that's you too and you want a class where you actually learn material, don't take him for Gen Chem.
I had him for O chem 1 and 2 and also labs during the summer. By far the best professor I have had. He cares about your grade and wants you to succeed (I got 3 A+ and 1 A). It was also one of my most fun classes I have had. Take it during the summer no matter what campus you are at--it was my best decision I have made during college.
Awesome dude. He is funny and a great teacher!
By far the best teacher I have ever had in college. He truly cares about your grade. I was so nervous to take Ochem but ended up getting an B+ and 3 A's. Definately takes improvement into account and always willing to help. TAKE IN THE SUMMER!!! He makes it fun and you won't regret it. Best decision I made in my college career!
I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Luderer!!!! Enough said!!!! :)
Summer O Chem 1. AWESOME professor! Makes it very fun. Very clear and to the point. Makes tough material easy. Definitely by far the best professor I've ever had. Highly recommend!
Dr. Luderer is probably the greatest professor I have ever had and will have. He is extremely understanding if you have any emergency of any kind during the semester. He is an easy and fair grader. Make sure you study the notes and do the homework problems because the tests can get tricky; however, you can take as long as you want. Take him!!!
No exaggeration when I say the most effective teacher I've ever had. Had little prior knowledge to chem before this class and I have all ready gotten great grades from him. Really fun, always tries to make students laugh. Great guy. Best teacher at Greensburg
Best professor ever. A very fair grader, and you will learn alot. Very funny, and knows how to keep the class alive.
Greatest professor ever. Luderer is my boy. I HATED chem before i took him. the guy is hilarious and will always have the classes attention because he is just so random. he knows what he is talking about and can relate to his students because he always goes back to his past and talks about his life as a student. Phenomenal teacher. Take him. Easy!!
He made me LOVE chemistry! He teaches well, tells you how it is, spoon feeds test questions and answers to you. If you study decently, do the homework problems and interact, ask questions in his class then you will pass with flying colors. He LOVES to pass his students! I actually like Ochem now. Take him in the summer!!!!
Dr. Luderer is the best professor I have had at Pitt Greensburg. He is very helpful and for his test you must know everything from his packet outlines. He won't leave anything out of them on the test unless said otherwise. You only really need your book for exams because he will give 1 or 2 questions on everyday life chemistry. Take Luderer!
Awesome professor. Had his class at 8 am and although it was rough motivating myself to get up for a class I wasnt interested in he made it fun. Finds the humor in everything and uses it to keep the class interesting. I wish he taught Chem 2 cause i'm struggling to pay attention without him.
Best teacher I have had so far in college. Tests can be hard sometimes, but he gives a lot of extra credit which helps. He tells you exactly what will be on the test and always has study sessions on his own time. Alright Alright Alright.
LOVE HIM. Awesome teacher and I hate O chem. Makes class enjoyable and once you get a study method down you're good. tests are true to material so prepare to memorize. Best teacher on campus and needs a raise.
works purely straight of his packets of notes. Holds out of class study sessions and to relieve the ochem tension with jokes.
Excellent professor, worked great with the class and helped us with whatever we needed.
TAKE HIS CLASS! IT WILL BE THE BEST DECISION YOU EVER MADE! Luderer is seriously the best professor Pitt Greensburg has, and honestly, I cannot imagine a better professor anywhere. He is the ideal. He's clear, his tests are easy (based off of packet... no surprises), gives lots of bonus points, really helpful... nothing bad to say.
best professor at pitt greensburg. friendly, funny and helpful.
I LOVE THIS TEACHER. I had almost every chem class with him. Hes my favorite teacher in all of my college career. Hes so nice and very helpful. Has study sessions on the weekend and really cares about his students. Hes great!!
loves his camel blue
BEST UPG PROFESSOR. HANDS DOWN WILL HELP WITH ANYTHING.
I have an undergraduate degree from a fairly prestigious college and took organic chemistry post-graduate. Dr. L is THE BEST professor I've ever had. He's a brilliant redneck, and relates to students better than you could possibly imagine. I would not have gotten into vet school without him.
First day of class, Luderer has the number 1.9 on the board. He asks how many of us are repeating the class; A considerable amount of students, myself included, raised their hands. He then tells us how his GPA for his third semester of college was that 1.9 and encouraged us that there was plenty of hope. Super relatable, nice guy, great teacher.
This man is the best teacher at UPG. His tests are extremely long so be prepared for tests 20+ pages. He's always prepared to help students, so it's okay if you don't know something. Just ask him. Grades fairly and doesn't tolerate BS. Take him for any and all chemistry classes if at possible.
Dr. Luderer is the living definition of THE perfect professor. He is absolutely brilliant, hilarious, down to earth, understanding and you will leave wishing it wasn't over. His quizzes and exams are "long", but he never tricks you or throws surprise questions at you. He gives a LOT of bonus & is a fair grader. Go to class, study and enjoy!
He makes the material easy to understand and never tries to trick you on a test. Always willing to help and wants to see his students do well. All around great person and the best professor I've ever had! Take Luderer for any chemistry class that you can!
Had him for Gen Chem 1 & 2, and Ochem 1 & 2. His reputation speaks for itself. I have never heard of a professor more revered than he is. He is a major goofball, but you know when it's time to be serious. 30+ page, 6 hour long exams? Yes, but he will sit with you for hours on end to help you with anything he can. Also a great mentor in all area
Great prof, made me like chemistry again. Incredibly helpful, will answer any and all questions. Absolutely fantastic resource. Exams and quizzes are easy if you put the time and effort in (i.e completing the homework); review weekly if not daily. Definitions make a letter grade of a difference come quizexam time- know them!
i love him. He gives out lecture packages. makes sure to show up during lectures and study for the test. you'll pass the class. he gives out a lot of extra credit work. love love love him. very laid back. i would love to take all of my chem classes with him.
Best professor on campus hands down
Dr. Luderer is easily the best professor at UPG. He is extremely helpful and easy-going. The organic chemistry courses are tough; you WILL need to study, but he is there for his students every step of the way. TAKE IT, TAKE IT! You won't regret it.
I've taken Luderer for OChem 1&2 I honestly wish i could have him for all of my classes. His tests are very long he makes sure you know the information before giving it. He is the funniest professor I've had yet. All around GREAT PROFESSOR!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best teacher i have ever had in my life. He will help you whenever you need it. Funniest teacher i know
Dr. Luderer is the best professor I have ever had. He is always there for his students no matter what the issue may be. Not only is he a great teacher but he is a great person and mentor. I would not have succeeded in ochem if it wasn't for Luderer. Take him for any class you can!
Not what you would expect, and yet the best science teacher I've ever had.. Genuinely cares about his students and knows how to keep students focused.
I had Dr. Luderer for Gen Chem 1, currently have him for O Chem 1 and will have him again for O Chem 2. Hands down the best professor I've ever had. He explains everything very well and lives to help his students succeed. Very down to earth, funny guy who really knows his stuff. Take him for at least one class - you won't regret it!
The class was hard but what ochem class wont be? I liked his teaching methods and he wants to help. straight forward and to the point during lectures.. vocab is a must know... and material in the notes must be studied in order to pass. do the homework he gives you even tho its not graded. the practice helps!
Hands down the best professor I've ever had. I am terribly sad that I just transferred to UPG and I graduate this spring. I would have absolutely loved to take more of his classes. There is not one bad thing anyone could say about this guy. Amazing teacher, and even more of an amazing person.
Dr. Luderer is well respected, and one of the most helpful professors I have ever had. He knows what it is like to be a college student, and he is always there to help if you ever need it. Awesome guy! Not an easy grader by far, but you will learn more in his class than any other on campus!
Challenging class but not as bad as everyone says. Keep up with the work and you will be fine. Study, study, study, and do NOT get behind! You will regret it. He makes everything extremely easy to understand. Go to class, study, and you will do great. I struggled with gen chem but Luderer made ochem so much more fun! Easy A!
I took Dr. Luderer for ochem 1&2. By far one of the best professors I have ever had. He is a very intelligent person behind all of the jokes & sarcasm. Ochem is hard, and he knows that so he offers help before exams & any other time to make you comfortable. Know the definitions. Oh & your exams will be the size of the SATs. STUDY! Don't fall behind
Fantastic guy, hilarious, and truly cares about his students! He makes OChem as painless as possible and is very clear with the material. He also will hold study sessions, go over homework, and clear up anything you need help with. Since the class is heavily weighted by tests and quizzes, you HAVE TO study and make sure you don't fall behind.
Dr. Luderer is simply the best. He takes a challenging subject and makes it accessible. He's also caring and understanding, and he's willing to go out of his way to help you inside - and even outside - the class. Whatever you do, take him.
One of the best, if not the best professor at UPG. He knows what he's talking about and he explains everything in a way that is easy to follow. Not to mention he's hilarious.
Dr. L. was a TA at Duquesne for GenChem122 Lab fall 2016 which is what I had him for. If you do not complete post or pre-lab assignments, come to lab early and he will help you with them. He is a harsh grader. If you ever have questions during lab, just ask him and he's helpful. Do not tell him if you're a pharmacy major, he will tear you apart.
Easily best chem professor for any course. Beyond hilarious guy. I had him for gen chem and both ochem 1&2. Show up to class always or you'll miss a lot. Don't text in class. Respect him, he will respect you. Tests are super long and tedious, study very hard to pass. Makes ochem a breeze. Seriously a great professor, take him any chance you get!
Luderer is fun and he always care about us
Had Dr. Luderer for gen chem 1, ochem 1, and now ochem 2. He is the best professor I've ever had. He makes you work for it, but he doesn't leave you in the dark for the exams. Study hard and organic chemistry will not be awful!
Wow he's great
Dr. Luderer makes you laugh and takes class seriously. It is easy to learn from him and he is an overall great professor.
This man is the not only the best prof I have ever had the pleasure of learning from but he is absolutely hilarious as well.
Amazing professor, really cares for students. PRINT the notes he emails you. DO NOT BE ON YOUR PHONE IN HIS CLASS, he hates phones. Study terms for any test. He is a VERY fair grader.
best professor on campus, ochem is hard but he is willing to help you outside of class and help you pass, you must study a lot. wish he taught all the classes at UPG!
Tests are long and all open-ended, but if you work hard, he will help you out. He's an amazing professor and I highly recommend taking him! You will not regret it!
Dr. Luderer is the best professor I have ever had. He truly cares about students and does his best to make sure everyone understands. He explains complicated material in such an easy to follow manner, and he makes a hard class not seem overwhelming. I wish I could take him for every single class. He is hilarious, and extremely smart.
This man is truly a genius. Organic chemistry is infamous for being an extremely hard class to pass, but he really tries to make things as simply as possible for you to understand. Don't get me wrong you'll really have to work for your grade but his style of teaching is awesome and he's really funny so class is never a bore. Best professor ever
He will ensure you pass as long as you show you try and care about your work.
No homework. There are "pop quizzes," but he tells you when they are so it's not a surprise lol. The group works help your grade a lot. HE WILL MAKE SURE YOU PASS IF YOU PUT IN THE WORK!!! Funny and caring -- tries to seem tough in the beginning but he loosens up. Long hard tests, but if you study, you'll do okay. He gives A LOT of bonus points.
If you actually put in time and try, youll get an A. He makes ochem 1&2 very simple. You have to put a lot of time into memorizing rxns and definitions. Make sure to do the homework, it looks very similar to exams. Summary: easy material, hard to memorize all the information unless you learn as you go. Cramming and procrastinating will not work.
Luderer is AMAZING. He will tell you exactly what comes in the tests, he is super nice and funny and really looks out for his students. He grades tests and group works which aren't bad at all. You need to study to pass, duh, but other than that just show up and do your stuff and you'll be fine. I would def take him for ochem
Makes a difficult subject easier to understand - flexible - very down to earth - overall good guy that wants to teach
Dr. Luderer is a great professor. I would recommend him to anyone, he enjoys what he teaches and will always help his students. His tests are not hard, but you need to study for them. They look a lot like the homework. He gives out a lot of bonus Overall I think he is a great teacher and his class is pretty easy. He explains concepts very well
Dr. Luderer is fantastic. He carefully explained reactions step by step and provided real-life examples to keep the class engaged. He was always answered questions and had a good sense of humor. Attend lecture and do the homework to prepare for exams. He made his own course packet so no text required. Wish all profs were more like him!
Love Dr. Luderer. Hes the only reason I passed O chem 1 and 2 with an A. He truly wants you to succeed & even wrote me a letter of rec when I def wasnt the most active student. Take him for anything possible.
Solid choice for OCHEM, made it easy to understand and cared about his students. Don't need a textbook, show up to class and pay attention you will be fine
The BEST prof UPG has to offer, would recommend him to EVERYONE. Made learning easy & beneficial to future (cut out the unnecessary things). Shared wisdom with students & is very respected. Show up & do your work & you will get an A in his course. Very understanding & reasonable with requests. Wants to see students succeed.
Professor Luderer was the only professor who could get me to understand chemistry. He breaks it down in a blunt, matter-of-factory way and is overall so understanding when it comes to your struggles. He is so caring and wants every student to do their best. As long as you show up and work hard he's an easy Pass (even if u don't like chemistry)
Grades only come from 5 exams and the final. The exams are always 10+ pages, but always take-home with the exception of the final. Having take home exams makes impossible to understand material actually passable. Regarding the final, Dr Luderer put a substantial 50%+ curve on it. That being said, Dr Luderer is also an amazing and funny prof. 10/10
He's such a fun guy. All his exams besides the final are take home and the rest of his material is group work you're given about a week to finish. I'd highly recommend him for Chem 1.
Dr.Luderer is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He simplifies lectures to the point where ochem doesn't seem as scary, and also makes jokes and tells funny stories to help brighten the environment even more. I'm taking him again for ochem 2, and I would highly recommend him. If you want to transfer to main, take ochem with him first.
The best chem professor ive had. Hes very nice, very funny, and a good professor overall. I learned a lot from him. The only thing is he doesnt give you anything to prepare for the final, so I would look up study guides on your own. Other than that everything else he gave was take home! An amazing guy and snacks were a bonus.
