He is extremmly helpful and very clear. He is eager for us to learn and is always open for questions, comments etc. Consider taking him.
I hate history and wasn't looking forward to taking this class. He is a great Teacher and Very Helpful. Barely anyhomework and he even swears when he talks about certain subjects. Take this teacher if you have the chance!
Easy going, focuses on discussion. Willing to go over things as many times as needed
Very nice, good man. As long as you go and participate he likes you.
classes are pretty boring. reading quizes are kinda tough. however he does open himself up for questions. grades papers tough. thats about it!
Kinda scatter brained...knows his material and is very thorough. Tough quizzes but helps you write in proper english and helps you study properly
Granted, he is a bit dry but that doesnt matter that much when he will help you whenever you need it. He grades fairly easily and will give you a study guide of EXACTLY what is on the midterm and final... if you fail, i'm sorry, that would just be sad. DO NOT PLAGIARIZE... he failed several fo it
He's pretty boring. He grades pretty hard on papers and the test are essay tests. The only good thing is that you he gives you a study guide with the exact questions on the test. Sometimes I think he's gay.
He knows his stuff! The quizzes are really hard, but make sure you do the readings. Midterm and Final were decent, make sure you study. sometimes his lectures get EXTREMELY boring.. Just go to class, quizzes are pop quizzes.

If you don't like writing essays then don't take this guy! He gives out some really hard writing assignments and grades them pretty hard, however he says that if you try in his class he won't give you lower than a C.
He's aight. lectures a lot. He has lots of reading though. But its not bad. Take it if you don't have a better opption at a better time. Otherwise he won't kill you are anything.
His lectures can be boring, but he is a cool guy. His tests are easy, but yet challenging. I hated history going into this class, now it's not bad at all. Take his class, but be prepared to write a lot for the essay part of the test. -He looks like Elton John, so that's a good laugh!
This class is very manageable. Lots of readings to do (about 50 pgs. per week) but he tells you what the essay questions are for the midterm tests and the essays for the final. He looks a lot like Elton John.
It's Elton John!!!! His class is pretty boring, but because he looks like Elton John it's better. Midterms/Final are all pretty easy. He tells you whats on them. Take his class.
I thought I was doing great in this class and worked my butt off. My friend took another 121 class and showed up three times and got an B. I worked hard and was rarely absent, studied a lot for the final and got a C, and I heard I was one of the higher scores. If you think you are doing good in that class, your probably aren't
Not a good teacher.. Hes kinda femmy and weird... He seems like he's lonely and he looks forward to every class.. Not an easy teacher
He lectures a lot and can get a little boring but he knows his stuff and will help you as much as you want. If you are really lost just go in and ask for help and he will practically help you write your paper. Grades hard but is fair, if you work hard and read you will do fine...pop quizzes also!!
good teacher, no tests per say but you have rc tests online to make sure you read the book, lots of reading and notes but not a hard class at all, good discussions, good guy, take this class as a gen ed...you wont be upset...big paper at the end instead of the final
He is nice, but the class is really hard. You have pages to read for every class. Mr. Lungerhausen is polite and he definitely knows his stuff! This class, however, is only for those who want to go to class everyday, read lots, and write a 8 page final!
He's a very nice guy, and he tries to make the subject interesting but it's not! I stared at the clock everyday. He tries to get the class to participate so it's always painfully quiet. You have to read 3 novels that weren't that interesting. The class is definitely managable but stale.
Like Dr. Lungerhausen would say, there are a number of ways to get a B. It is hard to get an A but not impossible- do the reading and go to class. Awesome professor and also very nice.
He is a great teacher. He cares about the students and takes the time to answer questions. Only 3 tests, which really arent very hard. He tells you what you need to study for. He also looks like Elton John
A professor that seems to have a genuine interest in the education of his students. He's dedicated to his subject and tries very hard to make class engaging for students. The class I was in required a fair amount of reading and essays, as well as group discussion. I would definitely recommend him.
This class will seem like the worst class ever while your taking it. Looking back it wasn't SO bad. Very, very boring!
Um Not a big fan of him. He's very rude when it comes to note taking and sometimes not clear on what he really wants you to do. I think he's a hard grader. Also, I think he is a very lonely man and needs to find someone to make him happy! :)
I HATED HIM, TODAY HE THREW CHALK AT A KID FOR TALKING IN CLASS, HES RUDE AND INCONSIDERATE NOT TO MENTION BORING. HE MIGHT KNOW WHAT HES TALKING ABOUT BUT SOMEWHERE BETWEEN HIS MIND AND HIS MOUTH THEY GET LOST IN TRANSLATION. HE ASKS QUESTIONS IN HIS LECTURE THAT YOU DONT KNOW THE ANSWERS TO AND HE DOESNT ANSWER THEM EVEN WHEN YOU ASK AGAIN.
DO NOT TAKE!!!!! He's awful!!! hes rude inconsiderate and doesnt care about how you do in the class take a different class or professor!! cannot stand him!! he does know his stuff but he has a temper! and its hard to do well in his class, not imposible, but way hard!!
He has a temper that scares the class. He constantly asks if anyone has any questions and if nobody does, he gets mad. Overall he loves history and it seems like he expects everyone else to love it as much as him. Papers are hard, but thats for any history class
hes not so bad. i actually really enjoyed his class, and i would take another class he teaches. sometimes he is unclear on what he is trying to say but he is more then willing to stop and take the time to explain it again. and he knows everyones names... that rates high in my book
This guy is awesome! he knows his history and likes to express it. He helped me with the essays during his office hours which ended up getting me a god grade. Take notes, read the book, and if you have any problems, go to his office, hes really helpful.
EXTREMELY BORING!!! Isn't clear on what he wants you to do for assignments. Will help if you go to his office hours but won't necessarily answer the questions you are asking. Rambles in class and the things he talks about are never even on the tests, its all from the text.
He is a really good professor. He is always willing to help and will let you make up work and quizzes you miss. He is very passionate about what he teachers and will go on rants but they are always interesting. Read and you should get the grade you want.
He is a pretty good professor, however he does get mad if you do not do the reading..DO THE READINGS. Papers aren't that great, and the mid-term uses a lot of vocab from mason. Go to class and do the readings you should be fine.
This class is very hard to get an A. His 3 papers are the greatest chunk of your grade. He has "guidelines" to what he wants from you, but his grading is very unclear. The class itself is boring and his lectures are little details about what you have read, so it can be confusing sometimes about what hes trying to teach.
He knows his stuff and he comes across as a generally nice guy, but his lectures are so boring and he's very dry - he basically outlines what he says and you never feel like you learn anything. Hard to get an A, but easy to get halfway decent grade.
This professor is RUDE & does NOT listen to students. Class participation 15% of your grade, so you have to listen to his boring lectures about nothing. Short assignments are 5% so don't waste your time. Asking questions will lead him to rant and leave you more confused. This class is nothing but a headache, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
He knows his stuff but is a RUDE and selfish guy. IF you ask him in class about a question usually he will just go on a ridiculous rant about it saying that it is wasting your time and should be addressed in office hours or refer to the syllabus. AVOID HIM AT ALL COST. boring lectures and is a horrible professor. DONT TAKE HIM
So I tried to register for his class and he was sooooooo rude to me. My god! If you talk to him use his entire title it will probably be the only way he will be civil to you. I forgot his title in an e-mail and I got a scalding responce.
Stay away from the Habsburg Monarchy class-it's his passion and thinks you should have the same passion. He assigns 50 pages of reading for the weekend and 100+ during the week. Only lectures and asks if there were any questions on the material-there never are because no one reads. Very hard to get an A, very rude & confusing, and not helpful
For the love of god and all that is holy, do not take this guys class. He gets frusterated VERY easily. He got mad cuz I was smiling while we were talking about historical wars. He made history of being boring.
fun, super chill teacher. if you "accidentally" missed a quiz in his class, he allows you to make it up whenever, same with presentations. does make you read a ton of primary sources though.
I very much enjoyed his class. Lungerhausen tries to make the class enjoyable, but I'll admit he can ramble a bit too much. I never saw him get frustrated or yell at a student; although he does request that you address him with his title and are courteous. He does TRY to help you understand.
Lots of reading from super boring textbook in his western civ 1815 to present. hard to understand, lectures are sometimes boring. Hes a nice teacher and tests arent super hard, its hit or miss with what you know from the materials
Easy class. He is willing to let you make up missed tests and quizes as long as you do it in a timely manner. He is always available for help and a really easy grader. He's such a nice guy and the class was super enjoyable.
Very knowledgable! Easy to ask questions, but tests require a lot of reading and studying. If you do the reading homework, you will probably get a B or an A.
Do the reading and you will be fine. Two of the books can be very boring at times and confusing but he's very willing to help. He likes people to ask questions and participate in discussions. Tests weren't that bad. I felt like it was a review from stuff I learned in high school.
Professor Lungerhausen is an okay professor, but wouldn't recommend him. Not a very helpful guy unless you are absolutely in love with History.
He is very helpful and nice professor but the class is hard. Class is boring and lots of boring reading assignments. If you do the readings every class, you will do well in the quizzes and exams. If you have any questions, go to his office. He is so helpful and always welcoming. If you study hard, easily you will get an A
If you do the reading you will do fine on the quiz's and if you study your quiz's you will do fine on the test
All the tests are based on weekly quizzes. All the quizzes are based on the reading.
Great professor, he is fair and kind. A bit tougher than some, but it is a doable class. A lot of reading.
This teacher is a bad cookie in the cookie jar. If you have to take a history class DO NOT take it with him. He is a nice guy but he is an awful teacher. I learned ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
Lectures were extreme boring and tests were very difficult. They did not relate to the lectures or the readings in the textbook. Unreasonable grading scale. I would not recommend this professor, taking his class will hurt your GPA.
For those who say he is a difficult teacher, they may have not done the work that was required! He is very helpful and passionate about the discipline. Do the work, show up, and ask for help when you need it and you'll be fine. Highly suggested.
Prof. Lungerhausen taught the History of Antarctica, I did not even believe that Antarctica had enough history to fill a.semester's.worth of class. He proved me wrong. Fun class learned plenty about the early exploration of.Antarctica, which was cool. Good Prof.
He knows his stuff. He does tend to teach it very basic though. He assumes since its a general it should be. I personally wish the class was more challenging.
Completely enjoyed class! I appreciate profs that know their stuff and he most definitely does! Awesome to learn from someone who is actually passionate! Go to class and he tells you basically exactly what to expect on the test!!! Highly Recommend for a general!!
This class is pretty difficult if you want to get an A. The exams include three portions: multiple choice, chronology, and essays. The essays take a lot of time and EVERYone had to ask for additional time to finish them. Luckily, he gives it, but it's just annoying that he makes them so hard.
This professor was very amazing. He was very kind, helpful, passionate about history and he clearly cares about his students. He does assign a lot of reading but it really gives you the chance to learn deeply about history. The test are pretty easy and there are not very many of them. I was really impressed with how great of a professor he is.
There is one thing about this class that was bad and that was the amount of reading. Other than that, it was not bad at all. He is a great guy, who has to be one of the nicest professors on campus. He enjoys what he does and you can tell. Not the most interesting class, but the teacher makes up for it.
This has got to be the nicest professor I have ever met. He is so helpful if you ask questions in class or go to his flexible office hours. He also knows everything there is to know about the class. There is a ton of reading that is hard to stay on top of so I would suggests reading everything so you do well on tests. You definitely have to study.
If you can write perfectly, then take this guy, he's a tough grader. No matter how you try. He's more of an opinion based teacher. Discussions, if he does not like what you write, then you'll get a bad grade. Finding definition for 3 terms for the whole semester, each term is a few pages long and still not meet the standard he wants. Advoid!!!!!!!
Takes points off of homework just to take points off. Not Helpful.
He was extremely boring to listen to. It was so hard to listen to him for 50 minutes. There's assigned reading for every class and most of it isn't easy. If possible, avoid this class and avoid him. He's a nice person, just not a good professor.
Avoid at all costs. I didn't like him at all. He was boring to listen to and in order to get an A on an essay it had to be perfect. He was very tough to listen to and just not a great professor to take for a general.
I did not enjoy this professor. He assigned many readings, which you should expect with a history class, but were all confusing. He expects everyone to know European history extremely well prior to the class. The class is purely taught based off of secondary sources and his opinion. If you do not write about his opinion, you do not get a good grade
Expect to fall asleep in lectures. Lots of reading. Only two tests which are a majority of your grade. Content wasn't very interesting.
I am not a fan of history and this class was very boring. Every class there was a lecture and the class dragged on. The professor is very nice however, gives you a lot of reading to do which sometimes seems unrealistic. The final in my opinion was hard because there is an essay portion on it. If you enjoy history take the class if not avoid it.
He's just a very monotone and boring guy. The topics are not interesting, if you took any sort of world history in high school don't take this class or this professor. Same stuff, just more boring. Never took notes, still did pretty good on tests. Reading is your life in this class. He has so many books and documents for you to read. BORING!!
Class is very lecture heavy. He is very strict about his polices. The class is a lot of reading. VERY BORING. I don't suggest taking his classes.
This professor knows so much about history it's kind of insane. He is so nice and has a lot of respect for his students so I'm sad to see harsh comments. He seems boring at first but if your class participates he will really open up and he also doesn't really care if you show up or not. Lots of reading but good books!
Unless you're really into history, monotone professors, or reading until you never want to read again, avoid this class at all costs. This professor is nice until you express a different opinion other than his own. Do. Not. Take.
Professor Lungerhausen is honestly a great professor. He is extremely caring of all of his students, he really wants everyone to succeed. He is very knowledgeable of the history that he lectures on. Yes, there's a ton of reading, but honestly as long as you remotely skim through it you'll be ok. Stay on top of the readings, go to class, easy B or A
He's a nice guy but doesn't fix the parts of his class that don't work. There is SO MUCH reading and no one does it, and we can never have a class discussion. Rather than lessening the load he just skips over the assignment or makes the class figure it out on the spot. This is a decently easy A/B if you're an excellent test taker.
Lungerhausen is an extremely nice guy and smart who really just didn't structure his class correctly. There's way too much reading for a 100 level class. His lectures were all over the place. Overall though if you are struggling with something he will help you, just don't wait last minute to do so.
Great professor, he had to leave after midterms because his wife had a baby but I wish he could have finished out the course with us! His replacement was not good.
Great Professor. There is only two "major" exams and if you study you will do fine. His lectures are boring but it's worth being there and taking notes. He's very approachable and when you go to him to get help you can put some ideas down next to what you already have written. Reading assignment every night but the material is kinda interesting.
There are 2 major exams and you should be ready to read and take a lot of notes. His lectures are long and boring mainly spoken mono-toned but he enjoys what he does. Participate whenever possible in the class and he will be looser about his lectures. There is at least one chapter a week to read plus up to 5-6 documents to read a night.
Very passionate about the subject. Answers questions and wants people on the same page. Wants students to succeed and helps them do that. Lots of reading but he chooses books instead of textbooks. This makes reading much better due to them being good reads.
He was a pretty strict grader, and would dock points over small errors. He was an okay professor, just expected a bit much from a level 200 class.
Professor Lungerhausen knows what he's talking about, but his class was not at all structured well. For a 100 level class, he expects you to do a lot of reading and prep work for class. He does seem condescending at times. He is also a pretty picky and hard grader, so be careful of that. I overall wouldn't recommend him.
Anyone complaining about a lot of reading probably just hasn't read since they were forced to do book reports in grade school. If you're interested in the subject, it's not bad. He is a good professor, although maybe a bit monotone during lecture
He cares about history and is very knowledgable on everything he teaches. He is monotone and his lectures can get boring. I felt like his lectures didn't cover material completely or didn't make sense, making you go search in the book for answers. LOTS of reading - book and documents from 1800s-1900s. DONT take if you just need to meet a goal
Lungerhausen was the most "teacher-like" professor that I had this year. He lectured almost every day. The textbook materials weren't needed in class, but the midterm and final are based on the terms in the book. The hardest part of the class was the starred discussions because they were time consuming and could get frustrating at times.
I liked history coming into college but not really anymore. I thought this class was a little too hard for a level 100 class.
He was very nice and willing to help if needed. I also thought he graded fairly. The readings were insane though, I was taking 3 upper level history classes and his class had more reading than the other 2 combined. The readings also were difficult to read and I found myself falling asleep through a lot of it.
Lungerhausen is a super nice guy overall but gives pretty boring lectures. It can be really easy to tune out but overall his lectures arent too related to quiz content. Do your readings and youll be just fine. Only homework is Starred discussions (really dry) so push through and get those done on time and youre set.
Professor Lungerhausen is can be a little boring to listen to when you aren't really into history but his class is easy to pass. The quizzes are easy with it being open book, open notes, and you get 2 or 3 shots at retaking it. Pass the class doing the readings and participating in class helps. The final is your choosing to show what you learn
He seemed to care a lot about his students and their success in his class. I really enjoyed having him as a professor and would take him for all of my history classes if I could.
Dr. Lungerhausen was my favorite professor of the semester. He is very fair on how he grades and is very understanding if you aren't able to complete assignments on time. He wants you to succeed and its obvious. The tests are fairly easy and there aren't many assignments. The lectures can get long but they are interesting.
Lungerhausen is one of my favorite professors. He is very interested in what he teaches and cares about how you are doing in his class. He mostly gives lectures that are pretty interesting if you are interested in history. His class is an easy A if you show up and want to learn.
Lungerhausen is great at teaching and a great resource as a professor in general. Overall excellent class and an easy A.
Matt is a super cool dude, he genuinely cares about the content of the course and for his students. Readings can get boring… but that’s history. His lectures are very interesting. I’d take him again in a heartbeat.
There will be a lot of reading as homework for this class and almost every class is just lecture. Sometimes there is discussion about the reading. He gives you three tries on all the quizzes, and the assignments are super easy. Literally just do the readings and the few assignments and try to show up to class enough and you should get an A!
It was a LOT of reading, and we spent more time learning about how he wanted us to write our midterm and final than actual content. However, he is an easy grader and it is practically impossible to fail as long as you show up.
The readings he'd assign tended to be very long and sometimes boring, but even just skimming over them tended to be enough to get through the class. As long as you pay attention to the lecture, do most of the readings (mostly on any novels he assigns), and follow his study guides/advice for tests and such I think you'll be fine!
Lots and lots of reading that isn't necessarily necessary but can help at times. Boring lectures. Very clear grading criteria. Very respectful person and polite.
very kind and understanding, lots of reading is assigned but it's honestly not essential to get a good grade, overall a really good professor i would reccomend to anyone
One of the best professors I have ever had. His teaching style is so interesting and engaging. The class is very textbook-heavy, but all of the readings are interesting and prepare you for the final. He gives great feedback and explains exactly where improvements can be made, and leaves time for all questions. I would 100% take his class again.
This class was good, there is a lot of reading that you need to do that comes with 4 different books you need to buy for the class. Lectures tended to get very boring and I found it easy to space out most of the time. Every Friday we had a class discussion, some were graded and some weren't, he is caring and very positive overall.
If the concept of reading every single day really gets you excited, take this class. Quizzes and tests are almost entirely about the four books, and I rarely looked back at lecture notes. Lungerhausen is a nice and smart guy, but expect every question you ask to be followed by a two minute explanation that may answer what you wanted to know.
