I would not recommend taking this class. Horrible teacher
Best Instructor ever! Explains material very well, and uses clear real life examples. Expect a lot if work, but it pays; you will understand accounting. Those complaining are the lazy ones - those who like easy grades.
Seems nice because he is always smiling but he is very inconsiderate. Loads you with work. Very noticeable that he has no teaching experience. Grades very harshly. Would not recommend unless you have a lot of time on your hands to spend obsessing over his class.
If you are looking for an easy A, this is not the class for you; however, if you want to LEARN, and understand accounting crystal clear, then take him. Explains concepts and materials very clearly, very patient, and want students to learn. Uses lots of industry examples. One of the best instructors I have ever had.
Great teacher! Helps out a ton, and is always available to answer questions and help out. His class does have a great deal of course work, but he makes it easy to understand and shows tons of examples!
overall is a good teacher, but a very harsh grader and has to give extra credit to make up for low test scores. average test score for 3rd exam was a 34/70
Great instructor. Takes his time to explain concepts and procedures. Very willing to work with students even outside office hours. Best Accounting class.
A great instructor. Not an easy class class by any means and not easy A, but he puts extra effort to ensure students have an opportunity to succeed. Will take him for 202 and 203
I have had Mburu for both 201 and 202. And currently have him for 203. He started out as a great professor, eager to help and involve his students. Now it seems as though he is out make our lives hell. Says one thing and then blindsides us with something else. Doesn't follow his syllabus, explains less and less and grades harder. Do not take him
Might as well take this class online because we al basically taught ourselves. Study days he doesn't give an overview of what is going to be on the test; just asks, "are there any questions?" In the beginning of the quarter all was well, I got 100% on the first exam, then failed the second exam. You can't miss one day of class or you will be lost.
Might as well have taken this class online because we had to teach it to ourselves. This week he hasn't lectured once, just has us doing problems out of the book. He doesn't go over the answers as a class. I'm not retaining any of the information learned. I got 100% the first exam and failed the second one.
Awesome class. This teacher is building critical thinking, and has students figure out things on their own. All the answers are provided online; however, some students need to be spoon fed (there is a day care on campus for all of you). If you want a challenge, not just a grade, take this class. There is always a technical school.
Horrible and inconsiderate teacher. Doesn't teach at all and load us with works. Worst teach I've ever had.
Mr. Mburu is an excellent insructor, and makes us be responsible for our own learning. Students who want to be spoonfed might not want to take this class; but if you want to understand and to learn, this is the class for you. An Easy A class as long as you study to understand.
I was new to accounting and now I can say I already live accounting; thanks to Mr Mburu who has taught me to understand accounting.
All these reviews about being spoon fed and Mburu letting you use critical thinking and teaching you to learn on your own are not helpful. I am a straight A student. This is a fundamentals class. The instructor is supposed to teach you. If his way is not working, he needs to try a different way. The quarter long project takes away from learning.
One of the best. He teaches you to understand, not to just pass. An easy A class if you do your part.
Don't instructors have their own place to give feedback? Just sayin.
A great instructor. Goes beyond requirements to help; very helpful.
Awesome guy. Very helpful and always available. Will take him for 202 in fall.
He's very nice to students and willing to help you with anything you don't understand. You just need to ASK him. He expects that students have done the exam practice at home prior to the review day. The exam practice is really similar to the actual exams. Abundant of extra credits. Spend time to study for this class and you will be fine
Takes time to explain material and very thorough. will not give you an easy A but you will get an A very easily by if you do ur part. the best if you want to understand.
This is a tough class but mr Mburu makes it really logical and fun. Taking him for 203. great instructor
If you attend class, pay attention, practice, and use the sample exams, you will get an easy A. Very patient guy with a sense of humor. Would take him again.
Very thorough and detailed. Pay attention, review sample exams and you will be good. One of the best.
I really recommend you don't take this teacher. He is pretty horrible.
If you are like me and had a so-so teacher the first quarter this is going to be a difficult class. You cover a lot of information very quickly and you need to attend class or you will get lost. However, Matthew will respond by email at all hours of the day, meet after class, and is by far is the most helpful teacher I've had at TCC.
If you value your sanity, don't take this class. Mburu grades inconsistently and his exams are designed to trick you rather than test your actual knowledge. You WILL NOT have time to properly finish his exams, forcing you to rush and lose points over simple errors. Take accounting with someone else if you can.
I had 3 different accounting teacher and Mr. Mburu turned out to be the best of three. For once Accounting class was actually interesting and fun. You will hear your name in this class. Don't be afraid to ask questions and Mr. Mburu will do everything possible to make it clear. Not a lazy teacher! Class is not easy, but you can get an A if you want
This guy is a good teacher in class, he explains things very well provided that you can understand his accent. However he has a rediculus Excel project in some of his classes that is uber hard and complicated. Also his in class tests are way too long. It is possible to get him to put the tests online though which makes them much more doable.
this was one of the most painful classes i have ever taken. i would not take this class ever again with this professor. he is a very knowledgeable professional but is not a very good teacher. his in-class test are impossible to take and finish. i have not had this much trouble with a class since i started school.
I have to say managerial accounting was interesting, NO JOURNAL ENTRIES, and you get to think of things logically. This is not an easy A but Mr. Mburu gives you plenty of opportunities for extra credit. By far my best teacher at TCC.
Matt is amazing. Don't listen to what people are saying about him trying to trick you and what not. He is funny, interesting, engaging, and is ALWAYS willing to help you. Plenty of extra credit opportunities as well.
Finally we get to break away from bookkeeping! 203 is logic based & actually fun. Matthew is very helpful & encourages his students to be lively and engaged. There is a lot of extra credit, 5 pts every chapter for 2 minute presentation (just play a video) plus other chances. I've made friends that are continuing on with me to UWT & glad to be done.
Horrible instructor. Exams are too long and not possible to complete on time. Course project is useless and distract you from studying. If you want to hurt your GPA, this class is just about it.
Very strict, expects way to much. I would not take him again.
overall pretty good teacher, does move very fast and class can be stressful. some exams are online which is very helpful. there is a extensive personal project that consumes a lot of time. however very help and understanding. can be funny at times.
I have taken 2 classes (Acct 202 & 203) with Mr. M. He does have a strong accent but he's more than willing to work with you if you don't understand something. Practice exams online are almost exact to the ones in class. The other people must have not put their effort into this class because he's willing to help if your willing to learn!
I like this individual, very dedicated, very smart and has clear and reasonable expectations. The problem I have is that I work full time Thursdays-Sundays he gave us a lot of sheets to read over the weekend instead of giving us those sheets on a Monday, I work 10 hours days and I don't have time to do weekend work. If you work full time, avoid him
Awesome!!!
Very knowledgeable and dedicated professor. Recommend taking his class. His exams are long and hard, but as long as you listen to his lecture carefully and ask your questions, you will ace the exams.
I appreciate Mburu's in class approach, but have issue with his "optional" homework assignments that turn into part of a test. Also a test with 2 concepts that had not been covered in class or book (worth 1/5 of test). Cancelled review week since "so few students" had logged onto an optional practice test a week prior to final.
Mburu started quarter off really great - showed you his expectations.. but Many of his decisions were based off of emotions. Sometimes, he would feel "generous" and decide to let the people who did the optional HW use that as their test grade. He had good intentions and wanted the best for students, didn't present it well enough.
Everybody plz don't take his class. This is the hardest class I have taken since I study in college. Heavy work is not going to get you done, and the difficulty of the exam will make you suffocate. If u r one minute late, it will be recordReally regret to take this class, but I know that regret is useless.I don't want the tragedy to happen again.
I read what was supposed to be read before coming to class therefore I was able to answer some of the questions he asked AND I was able to ask him lots of questions when I didn't understand something. He breaks things down SOO well!! I did get sick halfway through the quarter and I felt like I had to play catch up the rest of the way.
Professor Mburu taught all 3 Acct courses I took. Attendance is mandatory & he is a tough grader but teaches VERY well. Exams are long. He is thorough with explanations and will teach a topic 5 different ways to help students understand the concept. Study guides were useful. If you want a good foundation for future classes, I would recommend him.
Professor Mburu challenges you as a student. I had him for ACCT 201, 202 and 203. I do not enjoy math classes and found myself losing interest at times. The good news with taking him online is that you can redo homework assignments as many times as you want until you get the best grade or just for practice. Sample exams are given ahead of time too!
One of the toughest classes, tough grader, doesnt miss much. Hard to understand sometimes, however the guy is a genius and truly cares about his students and his job.
Mburu is such a great professor!!! He really knows what he is talking about. Accounting can get a little confusing but he helps and makes you really understand it. I think he's a really good and smart professor who cares about his students' learning outcome.
His class is easy math class (to understand), however, you can be grade down if you skip this class or come to class late (even 1 or 2 mins). It's not a clear grading, as he sometimes adds in some part of grading without notice in advance. Her accent is not really easy to understand as he's not a Native. He's stubborn
This man is very hard headed. He will mark you down for not doing things on the assignment that he did not specify to do. If you ask for help on what you did wrong he will reply, "If you do well in the future Excel homework, it will mitigate the points you lo(s)t on this assignment."
If you have questions, he is great at explaining. Do the homework. Before a test review the chapters, homework, and quizzes. There are discussion board posts, don't overthink them, usually, on the report, they will have the answer on the page you are referencing. Don't over-complicate the chapters and understand the concept, you'll be fine.
Professor Mburu was an online class, since all classes are online. This was my second semester in TCC. The first semester we did zoom meetings to go over chapters and listen to lectures and teachings. Mburu does not have zoom meetings and his office hours are on a Wednesday 9:00am - 11:00am. He is a tough grader and doesn't work with students.
This guy is clearly just going through the motions. He shows up, punches a clock and moves on with his day. The fact that all accounting is done through Mcgraw Hill is really unfortunate. TCC should remove him from his position in order to improve it's graduation rate. He is part of the problem.
DONT take his class unless you want him to disguise himself as a student and creep on the group chats we have to help each other out !
He is just mean and does not care about the students at all. His messages to the class are passive aggressive and if you ask him a question he won't just help you. His grading is based on his mood and he is rarely in a good mood
I took both ACCT202 & 203 from him and both classes were vastly similar in terms of the website used (McGraw-Hill) and his teaching methods. However, the change in attitude between those classes was unacceptable. During ACCT203, it was clear that he did not care about the students or put any effort into teaching. Go for other options if available.
I took him for Math 147, ACCT 201, 202, 203, and I must say he does not want to teach. He is rarely in a good mood and had an attitude when I went to get help in office hours. He really made me not enjoy ACCT. He has no creativity and his classes were so repetitive with long lectures. Avoid his classes at all cost
This class is very fun to take but his exams are horrendous, and you cannot change browsers whatsoever. The course requires a lot of reading and memorizing because you cannot rely on it during the tests, which do not fully cover what he has you self learn.
This Professor made it clear he did not care about his students outcome regarding this course. He is not reliable in his communication and his exams are impossible. He does the bare minimum to get students prepared for his assignments and relies on McGraw Hill to do his job. Avoid at all cost. I submitted a formal complaint to through TCC.
I strongly advise all students, especially males, to exercise caution when considering enrolling in Professor Mburu's classes. The lack of respect, biased behavior, and ineffective teaching methods employed by Professor Mburu can significantly impact your academic experience and overall success in the course. (very gender biased with males)
Immense amount of work needs to be put in to understand and succeed in this class. You will always be unprepared for an exam no matter how much you study, practice, and read the textbook. It is one of those classes where the test questions are not anything you have ever seen.
I would advise all students to avoid this professor at all costs. Teaching style is uninspired and clearly he is burned out. At this point he was just just showing up and not caring about job performance. Not approachable.
Professional, helpful, and thoughtful. I had this professor for ACCT202&203 at the same time. A lot of work, but manageable. He was always ready to help. Exams are proctored and worth 55%. Although a really difficult quarter, when people went to him with reasons they couldn't attend class, he was always very understanding.
Professor Mburu is burned out. He relies solely on Mcgraw-Hill and shows absolutely ZERO effort when "teaching" his accounting classes. He is not approachable, especially if you are a male, his "not my problem" attitude is toxic. Teaching or guiding students towards their goals are not his concern. Avoid at all cost.
He's not much of a great professor. Had him for ACCT& 202 and he couldn't care LESS if you pass or not which made the class unbelievably difficult, and if you needed help, he would just say to "read the syllabus". He seems to know his stuff and its very much respectable although he just can't teach and would not recommend taking any of his class.
This class was much harder than I thought it would be. The lectures are hard to understand and even after reading the text and passing the conceptual assignment I have a hard time with the actual assignment. The class structure doesn't flow either - its very hard to follow on canvas. I would not take this class with this teacher again.
He is one professor that I would definitely take again but struggle. His class is very difficult but at the end of the day if you come to class study hard and PARTICIPATE you will pass the class. I' am very dumb usually and he supported me through the quarter, you just NEED TO PARTICIPATE and show you care.
Professor Mburu is one of the nicest professors. Very fast paced so pay attention at all times. Never be late, because you miss so many important things. Above all, he is beyond helpful and always wants his students to succeed. You get Chapter tests ever 2 weeks so stay on top of your game and every week theres homework so dont slack.
Failed the class because I missed one assignment. I talked to the professor to see if there was anyway to make up for the assignment. Basically told me no. I work full time and I have a lot on my plate. That is life, virtually no understanding. I had to drop the class unfortunately.
this professor is a good guy but is extremely fast paced and will not grade your stuff if you talk at all in class even if its about the work itself. if you take this course, be ready to be constantly doing something and have homework every night, excel spreadsheets and strict grading.
Professor Mburu does not care about his students unfortunately. Mcgraw-Hill is the crutch he uses to get through each quarter without assisting his students. His office hours are a useless: "re-read chap 1-3" is his standard advice. He has clearly settled with his position and shows no desire of being a "professor" but more of a place filler at TCC
Hands down the worst professor I've ever had. He couldn't care less if his students pass or fail. He "teaches" exclusively through the book, and his recorded lectures are from 2020. Over half of my class failed a test (4 tests total, worth over 50% of total grade), because a few questions were missing key info, and he did not address it whatsoever.
DO NOT GO TO HIS CLASS
he isn't as horrible as the reviews make him sound. it IS a difficult class, so show up to all the lectures and do all your work on time- he doesn't accept late work but there are make up assignments to get points back. ask tons of questions if you don't understand and take advantage of office hours.
i took this class and barely passed. he dosnt care about his students and teaches almost excusivley through online prerecorded lectures from 2020. he is not very understanding, and will not accept late work for any reason, ever. if you dod decide to take his class, make sure you turn on everything on time and watch all of his online lectures.
First of all, you need to have a good understanding of ACCT101 to understand this course. Second, you need to enjoy math and accounting. If you have these requirements, ACCT201 with Professor Matthew will be a pleasure. I read some bad reviews here and took the class online, but the professor was so nice and easy to learn
The class requires a lot of time for reading and homework. Professor Matthew explains very clearly, gives lectures both in person and online. Accounting is about real finance, it does not tolerate laziness and negligence. If you are interested in learning, Professor Matthew will give you all you need.
avoid taking this class if at all possible. he dosnt accept late work, taches with online lectures only, and is not understanding. i barely passed, and class sucked. lots of homework, and he cant understand why you dont understand the material. he says you dont need acct101 to do well in his class, but if you didnt, this will be a very hard class.
Ok I can understand where all the hate is coming from, because this professor is VERY difficult LIKE VERY but he is not a bad guy. You really have to lock in if I' am being honest, no slacking at all and if you do you will regret it VERY MUCH. So if you do take this professor make sure you are ready to lock tf in, no matter the circumstances.
Professor Mburu is inflexible, unhelpful, and does not have his student's best interest in mind. Due dates for discussion posts are listed to be due at 11:59, but will get progressively more points taken off every hour after 3 PM. Additionally, his feedback is not constructive at all and leaves more questions than answers.
Avoid at all cost. Clearly burned out and just punching clock until retirement. Not helpful and relies heavily on Mcgraw-Hill Online. Lack of willingness to assist student's questions or concerns.
