He's a..."decent" teacher. Good thing he's kinda hott otherwise the topics of conversation would get really boring! The tests took approximately 15 minutes to take. He teaches you whats on the test...but if you need a teacher who doesn't talk in a mono-tone voice..DONT pick him!
Little disorganized, but he was fun. Lectures could be boring if there was no discussion, but if you speak, the class becomes fun!
Extrememly boring. I loved philsophy before taking this class. Now I can't look at Derrida without shuddering. Do not take him.
Disorganized, yet very easy. He is nice, but doesn't really help out much.
Mr. Meyer contradicts himself on a regular basis, so that he does not upset or offend anyone. He never makes clear points and goes off on many tangents. He's fairly easy except for when it comes to writing papers, he grades based on his opinion not the criteria of the assignment! Girls-he's married!
Matt Meyer is a really nice guy, and he is also very new to teaching. He needs a little time to find out how to get what he's thinking across to other people. Some say he doesn't have his own opinions, but I think he was merely trying to survey philosophy and that is all, without giving any bias.
A good guy, but seems a bit inexperienced in front of a classroom. He has trouble conveying his thoughts to the students, and is sometimes so redundant the material seems more challenging than it is. Just read the articles and try to summarize the main points in your lecture notes.
He, though sitll working with some bugs that are inherent to new teachers, really held his own. I swear I took 3 pages of notes the entire class and the tests were still super easy. He also has a jeopardy review day before the test which really rules.
He's an ok teacher, but he's new, so there are some things about his teaching methods that may not be the best. The class, on the otherhand, was a JOKE!!! It was so easy, that I could probably have skipped a lot more than I did and I still would have passed the class. Take this class for an easy A.
He really isn't as bad as everyone is saying. He's really nice and funny, and even though he doesn't make sense all the time, he really tries to make sure everyone understands. This class is pretty easy too. He doesn't take attendance, and the tests are short.
He's a good guy and does a pretty decent job, the class is relatively easy, and does just fine conveying things, you'll like the class just fine.
I knew nothing about Philosophy coming into this class and learned a lot... he even made it interesting. It was a very laid back atmosphere and discussions were interesting and made the class go faster.
I took his class over the summer and he rocks! It's just a fun class to discuss ideas on different topics with others. I recommend it as a culture class.
Philosophy is a tricky subject and Matt tries his best to make it clearer, even though he does tend to make it more confusing at times. However, this course had no tests or quizzes & no attendance points, just some big papers. I got an A and only showed up about 5 times in the semester to hand in papers.
pretty standard lecture class. in class quizes that are easy and 2 exams. hes a really nice guy and tries to make the material interesting even though sometimes its pretty dry.
Loved the class...readings, quizzes, and tests are interesting and not very hard.
He's a great professor. He makes the material easy to understand, and always pays you individual attention when you don't understand. The class gets much more interesting when you talk; he allows open discussion during lecture and my class has talked about random things. You get to watch the Matrix for 2 classes. Reading quizzes are easy- T/F & MC
Great Teacher...makes the "dry" lectures interesting by raising insightful and controversial thoughts and questions...he makes philosophy as fun as it could possibly be...great discussions!!!
Very laidback & open to suggestions. will assign deadlines but u can easily presuade him to change them. in-class quizzes simple, tests also. lots of lecturing, occas. boring but interesting. Bring discussion otherwise he'll talk entire time. Overall he is enjoyable & easy to work w/, pretty standard & understands how busy life can get sometimes
Awesome teacher. Makes dry lessons interesting. He accomadates to you if you need help with deadlines. Very interesting and a nice man. Favorite professor thus far!
Very boring class, but an easy teacher, reading quizes about everyother day. But you can just read the powerpoints and pass them just fine. easily persuaded.
He's a really great guy and a fun teacher. phil. in general is boring but he tries to make it interesting.
Good class. Good teacher. A little biased at times, but discusses hot issues.
good teacher. encourages in class discussions. good at explaining things. funny. every once in awhile he'll go on about something a little too long. tests are pretty easy. makes the class very interesting.
Good teacher, but alot of the discussion is pointless. weekly quizes are easy. The class is rather pointless in my opinion, but he teaches it well
I had Matt for an FYE class, and he was great. Daily reading assignments and quizzes, but they were very easy. Kind of a pointless subject, but he keeps it interesting.
Very nice guy. Philosophy is a hard/boring subject to teach but he does his best. He tends to get behind because he will go on and on about a particular subject. Very lenient with due dates and tests are pretty easy. Good class to take if you're looking for an A with nota a whole lot of effort.
Very good professor. Interesting discussions happen at times, although they often go off topic (which is sometimes more interesting). Overall, a very good class
Very great teacher. Taught a class at the University of St Thomas for Fall 07. Philosophy is a very boring class but he makes it interesting and helps you understand the material. Very funny in class and goes on and on about the discussions (that's because he wants to make sure that everyone understands).Started with a D but ended up with an A...ju
Meyer was amazing. He's hilarious and not afraid to explore any view point that you throw out there unlike MANY other teachers at this University who use classes as a captive audience to spread their opinions...All in all Meyer was really fun, very flexible, very willing to help if you had any special circumstances. A++++ He rocks!!
Loved this guy, probably the coolest/nicest professor on campus. Works really hard to remember everyones name and is very helpful. Not a hard class at all. I would definitely take his course again.
Mr. Meyer seems like nice enough guy, but I wasn't a fan of his teaching style. He paces back and forth the whole time. His tests are ridiculously easy. This might be the easiest A you will ever get. I went in wanting to learn a little about philosophy, but everything we learn is so watered down.
Pretty easy class. Very helpful Professor. He is also very nice and does a great job of learning everyone's name. Tests are fairly easy. Assigns 1-2 papers that are 2-3 pages in length. Not a tough grader by any means. Philosophy isn't really my thing, but if it was, I would definately take another class with Meyer.
Professor Meyer is hilarious. The lectures are confusing, sometimes boring, and usually end up being tangent discussions about whatever someone throws out there, but the tests are easy and he is very eager to help students whenever they need it.
Great, great professor. I love philosophy but was worried about the department faculty in general, however Meyer turned out to be funny, FANTASTIC at explaining things... and very good looking.
Super great professor, amazingly somehow knows just about everyones name, which makes him very personable, really listens to your comments and seems to care, thinks openly on all topics and likes students opinion...sure he can ramble sometimes but overall I would HIGHLY reccomend him to anyone for any class...
Very good teacher! Class can be tough, but Meyer is very good at explaining things and giving examples. Adjusting teachings to class's needs. Very personable. Would highly recommend! If I were to take another philosophy class, I would definitely want Prof. Meyer again!
Great professor, anyone who thinks boring..ITS PHILOSOPHY your supposed to go around in circles in discussion...remembers everyones names which is impressive and is really easy going I would reccomend taking Meyer for ANY CLASS, very straight forward and interesting
If you like Phil and understand it then take Meyer. I didnt and his presentations seemed to indepth for me. He would pace back and forth the entire class time and mostly look down at his feet which always would distract me. Fairly easy grader but the content was boring and dry. I thought this would be a fun class. It wasnt at all.
EASY CLASS that's really interesting. He knows a lot about Philosophy and is really funny. Meyer tries to make the information interesting and get his students involved. Plus, he isn't too hard on the eyes ;)
Great class, great professor, Easy grader on papers, attend class and participate and you'll do just fine!
Great professor! Loved his class, he's quite entertaining and not bad on the eyes =) His "quests" are pretty easy. There are only 3 of them and 2 papers, very easy to pull off an A if you study and write great papers. I would recommend him to everyone! His class is really interesting too.
He is a really great teacher. This class can be taken by people who have no prior knowledge of philosophy and they will still do well assuming they read the material and pay some attention in class. This class is fairly interesting and he makes it really easy to understand the material.
Nice guy. If you dont like or know what philosophy is then i dont recommend this class.
Professor Meye is such an intelligent guy and he's really helpful. Loves to hear what students have to say. Be ready to get into some heated discussions with him. He has something to say for everything you say. And of course, he's really chill with his peirced cartilige and greatt body. I've always liked philosophy, but he makes it even better!
Dr. Meyer has to be one of the better professors I've ever had. He is extremely clear and loves what he does. He does a great job of engaging the class, and all of the discussions are very interesting. If this class can fulfill a GE or you just want to take a philosophy class, take this class with Dr. Meyer.
Loved this class! Readings were a bit difficult, but his lectures and slide shows explain everything, so make sure to go to class! Tests are fairly easy if you took good lecture notes, and he always gives time for questions. Find a way to talk in class, he counts it for participation points!
Dr. Meyers is an awesome, dedicated professor. I would not understand a word of anything we ready if he wasn't so great at explaining in detail what it meant. Classes are informative and just the right work load for their credits, highly recommended!
Dr. Meyer is an awesome professor. He is always prepared and loves what he teaches. The class is easy if you take notes and he always has time for questions or comments
Dr. Meyer made phillosophy fun. His tests are not very difficult if you do the readings and take notes in class. He is a smart guy with intresting things to say.
Professor Meyer is an awesome teacher! His lectures were really interesting and I learned a lot. It's definitely important to go to the lectures because he explains the readings really well! Take this class!
Pretty good lecturer. I really like the way he handled participation points(either talk in class, participate on D2L, or do some reading assignments). I wish more professors handled participation like this. Tests were very straight forward, just pay attention in lecture and review his slides.
SUCH a good professor. Pay attention and take good notes and you'll be fine. Also, get a head start on the participation points. They sneak up on you. He's so helpful and kind. LOVED HIM
Best teacher I've had at UWEC! Really helpful, fair grader. The class is really easy but you'll learn something.
describes topics very well, great professor, would take again, be ready for him to push his ideas onto you, can't argue your opinions against him very well, no homework ever, instead of a final we have a group presentation
He has a habit of stuttering while he speaks and talking out his thought process, which makes it hard to follow along. Not a good prof in my opinion. Very hard to follow his lectures. This class is geared toward students becoming drnurses, not any other majors. I felt very out of place and alienated. I would not recommend this class to anyone.
I would really recommend this class. Matt is the best! He is really friendly and smart, and has an amazing beard! I really enjoyed going to class, his lectures are interesting and we have fun group discussions. We talk about some great topics, but the textbook readings are pretty dull. If you are going to take PHIL 120, DEFINITELY take Matt Meyer!
Very scattered during lecture. Power points don't really give a whole lot to work with. Nice guy who is willing to help out, but the group project is dumb and the participation and i-clicker points are a waste of time in my opinion.
Super clear expectations for assignments and the exams are really fair. Readings are rare and tough, but you honestly don't need to do them. Everything you could need to know for the exams are on the PowerPoints which he posts online. This class was a breeze. You HAVE to take this professor
Meyer is a great professor, makes class interesting & relates it to your life. Useful class and an easy A. He does require participation, but makes lectures intriguing so it is easy to have something to say in class discussion. Tests are based on in class material and there are no surprises! Would take again & suggest to others.
Meyer is very disorganized. He's an "all over the place" kind of guy. Gets off topic in class sometimes. Interesting class, I took it as a GE course. Content is kind of confusing, but if you ask help it's there. The final is optional and replaces a bad test grade. The group project assignment was unclear, so make sure you're always asking questions
Dr. Meyer is good. The hour of lecture flies by. He's got his powerpoints on D2L, which really helps when you're preparing for the exams. He encourages active participation in the class. I'd take him again if I had to take more PHIL credits.
Dr. Meyer is a great guy. Professor? I'm not so sure. He is all over the place during lectures which can get distracting. He is very knowledgable in his field but doesn't really know how to teach that information. He will say something out loud then whisper some things to himself, he paces the room A LOT. BUT he wants all his students to succeed.
I took his art and philosophy class 2 years ago when he was at UW River Falls. He's a great teacher. I joined his class almost halfway into the semester and he went out of his way to make sure I was caught up. He's a very nice man and a great teacher.
Dr. Meyer was a pretty good teacher and is a great guy. The lectures can get long and I felt like I really didn't need to show up to class. I basically just crammed by reading the power points the night before each test and I did fine on all of them. The group project is pretty straight forward as well. The content is fairly interesting too.
He paces a lot and sometimes gets off topic, but his passion and knowledge about the subject he teaches makes up for it. Going to the lectures greatly helps you understand the readings. He truly wants each student to succeed and will do anything to help you. He's addicted to doughnuts and I love the class.
His lectures can be kind of boring and long but if you show up and listen you'll be able to pass his exams without reading the book. He's really good about answering questions especially if you visit his office hours. Overall nice and reasonable. Does one big group project that he grades relatively harshly.
Meyer's really cares about the well-being of his students. He tends to pace a lot and will go off on tangents, but overall a good professor. The class is pretty easy as long as you show up for lectures.
Really stresses that he wants you to pass. Exams were right on with what we learned. Study guides had exactly what he was looking for on the exam.
If you're going to take a PHIL class, take Matt! Very clear directions and tests are right from class material. Study guides show exactly what will be on the test. Go to his open office hours, if able, before the tests, he will answer any last minute questions you have.
Matthew Meyer is an awesome professor! He rambles a lot so things can get a little confusing, but overall he's a great choice. Attendance isn't mandatory but you need participation points to do well in the class so it basically is. I would not recommend skipping this class because of that. The content isn't too bad, reading will definitely help.
Meyer really cares that you understand him. I don't particularly like the subject he teaches, but for this subject he was an great teacher. Lecture was super big yet he knew my name from going to office hours once. After office hours he followed up after the test. Very caring and lectures aren't boring! (The class starts off harder and gets easier)
Meyer is a really great professor. I went in to office hours multiple times and he is easy to talk to and gives good advice for how to succeed in his class. I would definitely recommend taking Meyer for ethical philosophy!
Meyer cares that you understand material. Made a point to get to know everyone in the class(30ish people). Very caring and wants everyone to succeed. Gives lots of opportunity to discuss material in small groups or as a class. Gives lots of feedback on everything turned in for grades
One of the best professors on campus. Cares about students, and is able to talk about controversial topics in class without sharing too much of his own opinion.
Professor Meyer is great, if you have the opportunity, take a class with him!
Professor Meyer was such a cool guy! I didn't expect to learn as much as I did from this class and it was an easy A (which is always a bonus). I really enjoyed his lectures and multiple perspectives on things that are relevant in the life of a college student. Definitely recommend for an easy LE or just for general interest!!
He knows his stuff and wants everyone to succeed. Participation matters in discussion but he gives participation points for online discussions if you're shy. He's a little bit of a tough grader, in my option and there is a lot of reading that comes with this course, but overall it's pretty interesting. Takes attendance every class so don't skip.
Attendance is taken daily. Must participate. I think he is a picky grader and has you read two books. One book is great and the other one is impossible to retain info on. Great guy, just especially high expectations for work.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO! This is literally the most ridiculous class I have taken. He assigned so much homework that he told us not to attend class every day. He makes you read two books. One is easy to understand and the other is impossible. I took this class because I thought it was going to be fun and I absolutely regret it.
He is one of the worst professors I ever had. He complains about how grading and lectures are just too much work for him. He makes people feel bad for asking questions. He did not even show up for class one time. He "forgot" to tell us. He assigns a lot of reading. I would never take a class with him ever again.
Dr. Meyer is so funny and sweet. I wish I could take more of his classes, but I am graduating soon. I never thought before the semester started that I would really enjoy Philosophy, but Dr. Meyer made me so interested in it. Definitely take a class with him if you can!
Dr. Meyer is by far one of my favorite professors at this university, however I did find that this 200 lvl class was far more difficult/dense than any higher-level class that I had taken with him in the past. He very clearly cares about his students and is very respectful and civil when controversial topics are discussed!
Dr. Meyer is a super interesting guy. I took the honors portion of this class and it was a really cool class. I will say he talks a lot and easily gets off-topic.
Dr. Meyer tends to get off topic and behind in class but he also genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. The exams were pretty difficult, and the only assignments were really quizzes and the exams, but you just have to use time outside of class to review material and do the assigned practice problems
This is the worst professor Ive had in my time at UW Eau Claire. He is constantly contradicting himself. If you take this class just remember that the information he tells you the first time will likely be incorrect. He will back track on the things hes said so much in every class it becomes normal to disregard his initial reaction to a problem
Not a bad prof. He's way too political, but if you don't follow/care about that he's exactly what you would want/expect. Not outstanding, but certainly not anything horrid. Course specific - thought he mentioned it was his first time teaching it, so next comment is understandable - Felt like the course wasn't structured very well. He taught fine.
I honestly never write reviews, but Dr. Meyer is the gem of the philosophy department. The other reviews don't lie---he's understanding and willing to work with you, but you need to meet him halfway. Participation matters (a lot!) and he's accessible outside of class. Please if you must take Philosophy, choose Dr. Meyer!
Meyers is a great professor. He offers a lot of ways to keep your grade up through extra credit discussions and literally gives points solely for participation. This class is really easy to succeed in but only if you want to. You do have to read a lot tho
Dr. Meyer was so kind and funny. He is very careful with his words and makes sure to hear eveyone out. He never jumps to conclusions and is very conscientious. I wish I could take more classes with him because he made me want to switch my major to philosophy. All around A+ professor and person.
I loved having Dr. Meyers as a professor. There is a LOT of reading, but if you watch the lectures and do said reading you'll do just fine. If you communicate with him, he is very understanding. Make sure you read his feedback because he helps you do better in the future. Overall great professor, and I wish I could take more classes with him.
If you like to listen to a guy talking for 75 mins this is your class. All lecture is, is him talking at you he whole time about the 50 page readings you have to do before every single class. So gear to read I guess but if you don't want to all the information is on his slides that you need to know.
Overall a great guy and an incredible educator. Will give quality feedback and will answer any questions you might have. He is happy to help you, so if you're confused, ask or go to office hours. There is a solid amount of reading in the course, so prepare for that, but I thought it was completely manageable.
Very smart guy who clearly knows what he is talking about. He is very lecture heavy which is not really my favorite style of teaching but I still enjoyed the class. Watching Groundhog's Day is without a doubt a highlight of this class.
Professor Meyer's class is engaging but requires consistent effort. The readings can be dense, but his lectures break them down well. Using unstuck ai alongside the textbook helped me stay on top of the material.
This professor is a wonderful professor whom I've had many times. This content was difficult for me to comprehend and after explaining that to him he met with me twice a week on zoom for one on one attention and help which led me to passing the class. This class I wouldn't recommend but not because of the professor.
Professor Meyer makes sure every student feels valued and is great at engaging with students in the class. There is lots of reading, but his lectures cover the topics well. Outside of the class, he is very reachable, willing to go back and forth with me to make sure my essay would be strong.
