Dr. Morte was great he would help when we needed it. The grades in this class are hard but we didn't have to do the textbook homework for a grade it was extra credit. Quizzes were in class but they did help me actually prepare for the exam.
He's a pro disc golf player, what else is there to say?
Lectures are pretty painful to sit through but if you have any coding experience you should be fine. He's a really good dude you can tell he actually cares and tries to help with the labs. I didn't like lectures but not his fault just boring material.
Dr. Morte is great at explaining things (and hes a pro disc golf player which is cool). Hes an easy going guy whos pretty funny and very approachable. The course itself can be pretty difficult but if youve had coding experience most of the course isnt bad. He also replies pretty fast via email and his office hours are pretty helpful.
Morte was a pretty good professor. He's a disc golfer like others have been saying which is pretty cool, and he's one of those professors that are approachable and fairly nice to talk to, whether it be his hobby or about the course. The course was fairly boring, but I already had prior coding experience so it wasn't his fault.
I have a programing background, but oh my cheese this class's materials is something else. I strongly believe this class is not design for beginner in programing because it is super fast and make coding painful. Professor Morte is very passionate about teaching. Before the final, he came to school on his off day, so he can helped me with the final
Absolute legend. Very lenient grader and easily accessible outside of class (during office hours). He helps with coding assignments and if he is busy, many PTs are available at your disposal as well. Beware of quizzes, however. They occur at set dates and count towards your final grade heavily.
Beware! This class is rigorous. Not because of the coding concepts or the material you cover, it is actually the sheer amount of math knowledge needed to complete a lot of the group projects. It is definitely a weed-out class, but due to Dr. Morte's grace he curved the final grade and I passed. Even if you have background knowledge be prepared.
Dr. Morte was overall a pretty great professor. He was funny and let his personality shine through. His lectures were long and oftentimes boring just because of the sheer load of course material. This class was definitely not easy, but Dr. Morte was always willing to help and answered questions in depth. Make sure to use the Zybook and go to class.
I will admit that I did not like Professor Morte at first. However, after the course ended I realized that he helped much more than I realized. This was my first coding class and I will admit it was extremely difficult, but if you put in the time and care about what you produce, you will be fine with this prof. Good luck, Aggie.
Professor Morte is a very down-to-earth guy and loves to teach. He always makes sure to reach out and asks students if they have questions multiple times throughout the lecture. He knows the course material very well and was prepared for every lecture. Awesome guy!!!
Took Professor Morte for ENGR 102 and he was excellent. The lectures were not particularly interesting but that was more due to the nature of the content rather more than anything else. Overall, the class wasn't too challenging and Professor Morte was always willing to answer questions and offer assistance.
Doesn't teach at all and expects you to know everything for the final exam. He will make dumb jokes about disk frisbee and will not know what time class ends. The homework is super diffucult and he expects you to understand everything taught in the class lecture even though he just reads off the slide. 1/10 would never take again.
I took him for 216 (not an option as of writing). He basically just read the slides to us during class, so attendance was not important. He was pretty chill and would help you if you reached out to him. Would give a very simple example in the slide and then a very complicated homework question, making hw a huge pain. Final impossible to study for.
He is nice in office hours, but this class only meets once a week, so the lectures are hard to follow. You can survive the class, but the final is gonna be hard to study for. If you go to office hours already take him, he's helpful and funny, if you don't, I would avoid. Quizzes are password locked and inperson, homework is graded by PTs it'll b lo
Sit in the front of the room you will do better
Has an amazing personality, but this class in general is a mess. Lecture once a week and half the time nobody knows what is going on. He will speed through the slides and expect you to understand. Gives easy quizzes and fair grading on homework. Expect to not understand anything but you can't blame him for teaching a class that is really useless.
I'll be honest Dr.Morte is one of the coolest and funniest professors I have had at Texas A&M. That being said the classes he teaches 102/216 are very difficult for students to understand and he does sometimes rush through lectures(not entirely his fault he is only given 50 mins a week to teach hard concepts). Homework and tests are also very hard.
He mansplained the entire course
Dr. Morte's lectures were a little fast, but the course itself is super heavy on content. Very helpful prof that kept lectures light-hearted and energized. Would definitely take him again! (P.S: I will say that ENGR/PHYS216 as a course was pretty terrible and disorganized, but that wasn't under the prof's control, he made it as easy as possible.)
Going in with no coding he was a really good prof who explained everything from scratch. Announced extra credit for zybooks at the start and I would recommend doing those weeks by week and then using the slides to review for midterm and final. Chill guy who gave good lectures. Shout outs to the PT's as well who were really nice and understanding
Dr. Morte is great for the most part. He is extremely easy to reach outside of class, and his office hours are great. However, sometimes he rushes through lectures because there isn't a lot of time which makes the homework for that week unnecessarily hard. The final was a bit hard but that's because everyone goes into the exam with a high average.
His homework was pretty difficult and lectures were surface level and unhelpful for the final exam. His final was out of pocket. He did curve grades towards the end and he's a nice guy, but probably not the best choice for this class.
The lectures were surface level in comparison to the homework; you can go over 2D in class and be expected to do complex 3D stuff in the homework. There's an occasional quiz at the end of lecture in which you have literally less than an hour to understand the material, since slides open beginning of lecture. Final was also horrendous w/ 46 average.
216 is a terrible class but Morte is a good professor. Occasionally he'll assign super difficult homework but most of the time it's not that bad. The final average was super low and the TA's took forever to grade labs so the class was curved at the end.
Morte is a good dude, but PHYS216 is so over the place and the final is a wreck. It's pretty obvious the class is struggling, but he will just be like "moving on." I can tell Matthew Morte knows this class is a joke, but I felt it really hard to pay attention in class. The TA's do all grading of homework and the PTs in lab can be awful
He's a nice guy, but his lectures are pretty rushed cuz we only had 50 minutes, we saw him once a week, and there was like 40-50 slides worth of math/phys. That definitely made hw frustrating to do and sometimes the PT's dont know how to do it. The final bumped most people down by a letter grade.
Professor Morte is a really cool guy and will not shy away from interacting with his students. He is an outdoors kind-of-guy, loves Dr. Pepper, and is a minimalist at heart. His lectures are long and hold true to his minimalist tendencies (i.e just hold info) but he genially cares for his students, and I highly recommend taking him for 206 and 216.
Throughout my time in this class, he goes straight to the point in his lectures and will help you in class if you have questions or troubles with the labs. He has a lot of personality too. :)
Dr.Morte is definitely on the better end of 102 professors. He is very "to the point" with his lectures, which gives you most of class to work on labs. He has a quiz once a week, pretty easy. Has 2 extra credit assignments. He doesn't really push zybooks out there as much as I wish he did, but if you're struggling, do them, it helps so much!
Dr. Morte is a very fun and engaging lecturer. He makes the class as easy as he can but the common exams are difficult, especially if you do not have much coding experience. He is willing to help so if you need it, get it early. The class gets tougher as time goes on. Participate in group labs and try to learn from your teammates as well.
He is super funny and gives many quizzes where you can get free 100's. He also has a couple of extra credit opportunities. He is a really sympathetic guy and really cares about his students. This class was very hard for me since I have never coded before but I feel he made it easy be for me, hearing how hard other professors were from peers.
The class is difficult but he is not a difficult professor. He occasionally gives free 100's on quizzes which is unheard of from some of my friends taking other professors. The few times I've spoken to him he was nothing but help. He also makes some funny jokes in class.
Assigned much less work than the other ENGR-102 professors. He only made us complete the labs in Zybooks and offered extra credit if you completed all of the challenges (but not the assignments) before the test. Also let us use calculators. I finished with a grade above 100% because he gave everybody a 5% curve at the end.
If you don't know python be prepared to work super hard, but if you put in effort and study before quizzes and exams it is pretty easy to get a solid grade. Don't underestimate quizzes as they count for a significant portion of your grade. I would of made a high A had I just put in any effort on quizzes.
Best professor for engr/phys 216! Very rushed lecture, review the slides b4 class, write answers to the problems reviewed in lecture bc they will be on the quizzes. Start the lab reports ASAP. All homework is on chegg, make sure to know how to solve the problems for final though. The final is absolutely horrible but look at his grade distribution!
I could write a full book on how much I love professor Morte. He is a horrible teacher, and should not be a professor but my god is he good lookin and funny. I always looked forward to his lectures, and his homework is the perfect difficulty. You will have to learn most of the topics on your own, but his mustache makes it all worth it. 10/10 prof.
This class sucked, but 216 is just a terrible class in general. Morte is super chill and young, his lectures are about as interesting as they can be for 216. One time i accidentally submitted a blank pdf for my homework and he let me resubmit for no penalty. He wants you to pass and is nice and super accessibly in office hours. Would recommend.
216 sucks overall, but Morte did his best with the course content. Almost had quizzes every lecture, so be sure to write down the answers that were on the lecture slides. He explained any concepts I needed to know outside of class clearly, and also made some jokes in class. Funny guy, great personality, just teaching a class that sucks overall.
Dr. Morte is great! Funny and makes lecture entertaining. Material covered in class is not difficult and only one homework assignment per week. Overall easy class, but the final is very difficult. Final exam has a lot of weight so be prepared for it to drop your grade.
216 is an awful class (content is rushed) but Morte does the best he can given he only has 50 min a week to teach. He is funny which makes class more bearable. HW & lab grades make the class an easy A so they make the final very hard to balance out the high grades (avg for final is usually around 40-50). Doesn't livestream or post recorded lectures
Dr morte is just a super fun and chill dude. He makes class a blast to the point where people stay after just to hang out with him.
Beware of the final, but other than that the class was pretty chill
Love this guy.
Morte is a great 102 professor. He managed to make extremely monotone and overly long lectures somewhat entertaining and overall made what is a torturous experience for many students a lot more fun.
I wish that I could take Dr Morte for every class. I actually looked forward to going to his class because he is so funny and makes his lectures enjoyable. He is very understanding and relatable and will do his best to make you succeed.
I had Morte for 102 and 217 and could not recommend him more. He was a great lecturer, had very reasonable homework, and responded quickly to emails. His final was designed for people to fail, but that is a 217 thing, not a Morte thing. Literally every prof had a hard final. I learned a lot in this class and liked that the course followed PHYS.
FOR ENGR 217!!!!!! good guy, there are quizzes online and the homework is mildly challenging but using the lecture and PHYS 207 you should be good. also very reasonable and caring so email him if there are any issues!
This is the best professor I've had at TAMU so far. He was so funny and made lectures easy to understand. If you manage to be in his class, count yourself lucky. The only thing I didn't like about this class is that the HW's are super difficult and feel impossible. Otherwise, labs are pretty easy and fun to do.
Dr. Morte gives good lectures and is very caring. The class itself is pretty easy and the labs are graded very easy. The only thing that can bring overall grades down is the final, which is normally pretty difficult and the calculator policy is strict. Morte is a good prof to take and makes getting an A in the class easy.
Dr. Morte teaches well. The nature of the course doesn't really require your attention to lecture in the latter half of the semester, as it's all 206 concepts. The final wasn't difficult persay, but its very dangerous because it's just numeric input with no option for partial. Every class before mine had a curve, we didn't get one. Do HW and study.
I liked him at first, and he is perfectly friendly, but as the semester went on I felt like the powerpoints had less and less examples even though the homework got harder and harder. There were very few resources to get help or find explanations of harder problems, which is what most of the final is. Not bad, but not my favorite.
Morte is great! I'm convinced he's one of the best 216 profs. Funny, nice, gives clear expectations and good explanations. The final sucks, but it's a common exam, so that'll be true with any prof.
Dr. Morte is an amazing professor! His class is fairly easy if you have some experience with coding or are quite skilled, but if you're a beginner like I was, I highly recommend visiting the PT office from the very start of the semester. Dr.Morte genuinely wants to see his students succeed, and he's super understanding and caring! Highly reccomend!
ENGR 102 was a very difficult class but at least Morte was a good professor to make the class enjoyable. Would definitely recommend him.
Even though he reads off slides for lectures, he goes into more detail and shows you examples. He also really cares about your understanding of the work etc. I have no prior coding experience and his help made it super easy. The quizzes and tests were also a little difficult but helped you understand the coding.
ENGR 102 was a difficult course, but Dr. Morte made it easy and entertaining. My class got to do karaoke for extra credit, so that was fun! He definitely cares about his students!
Morte is a great proff, just a difficult class. I had little coding experience and struggled in this class the most. DO ALL EXTRA CREDIT. 1st exam was humbling to say the least. 2nd exam went a bit better. Missed the A by 1 grade average point. He's engaging in lectures and is honestly a chill guy. Quizzes once a week. Visit PTs during office hours
The course itself is very hard but Morte makes it better! Prior to this year, I had ZERO coding experience but pulled out an A in the class. There are quizzes once a week that are mandatory and 2 huge lecture exams. The exams are tough but as long as you study you will be fine. Morte is reasonable, accessible, and helpful. He's also funny!
Dr Morte is awesome! Lectures can be kinda boring but are easy enough to follow and he does his best to make them more engaging. Quizzes and tests aren't too bad and are very close to the lecture notes so make sure to study those. He doesn't require anything from zybooks other than labs but will drop a quiz grade if you do the challenges.
Dr. Morte was an amazing professor. He was really involved with the class and made learning the material a breeze.
Funny guy, makes a lot of sports references and jokes. Taking him again next semester for ENGR 216. His lectures are good, he's great at explaining programming concepts. He likes talking and connecting with his students, and is pretty young so he can relate to us. Exams are still difficult as this is a weed-out for freshmen engineers
102 is more of a general course so the professor won't matter as much. Matthew is great though and the quizzes(20% of the grade) were online, other professors did them on paper. He's chill and pretty down to earth. Exams are very hard, but I also didn't study much. Make sure you know how to do the labs by yourself and go to office hours.
One of the best Prof's I have ever had. He was helpful worked with students and was fun! The class itself was difficult for me as I had no prior coding experience but I was able to get a B in his class with help from him and the TA's.
I had Professor Morte for both ENGR 102 and ENGR 216. His policies are very reasonable and he always makes it clear what is expected of us. He's an okay lecturer, and tries to make sure the class is engaged.
You will enter and leave this class wondering why it exists, but Morte is great and I went into the final with a 99% in his class. He is a great lecturer and I enjoyed attending his class, although the class itself is poorly organized, difficult to study for, and overall feels pointless. Morte is great for 216 and I would highly recommend him.
so incredibly bad, and his lectures weren't bad either. hes so hot, i was motivated to go to class. i would also listen because he was so hot. really great prof though, always willing to help out and super funny! the class itself is evil, with the final being impossible, but he explained concepts really well and was really hot.
Extremely helpful professor, did a better job than my physics prof. Very accessible outside class. The course itself is rly bad because it's ETAM, everyone hates it. But big up to goat Morte
Morte is a good lecturer that actually teaches and cares about his students. He will answer every question in class. Very understanding and accessible too.
Professor Morte is hilarious and very hot. He is also a great lecturer and obviously cares about his students always offering ways to help. The failings of this class stem from the monster of a final that's difficult to prepare for. Prof Morte is very engaging and try's to prepare you for the final the best as he can. Study Study Study for it!
He's a good guy, but I took him for 102 and 216 and regretted it. His lectures are fine, he's just really inflexible when it comes to grading. In both classes I got borderline letter grades and he was not willing to work with me. That's just how college works though.
Dr. Morte was great for a kind of dumb class. If you are ever confused on a topic, he was happy to help during office hours. He is a good lecturer and keeps students engaged over pretty boring things. I would def take him again. The final is hard but he gives a lot of resources to prepare for it and an A is def doable.
overall pretty good lecturer and professor. everything was very clear of what is expected of us. Lectures were lacking examples, but he posts worked out problems after the lecture which made up for it. overall great guy that kept lectures interesting. Also hes an amazing disc golf player
Great teacher that kept the class engaged. Class and homework's were very easy, and had a 99 going into the final. The final is hard, but he gives resources to help you study that were very helpful. He does do pop quizzes, but the answers are in the lectures.
Straight forward and good professor. If you need any help with your code or anything, he was always able to help. Overall the class is pretty difficult and a lot of work for no reason in my opinion. But would take this professor again
In-class visuals + slides were very helpful. He explains each homework question in office hours. In-class participation quizzes after every lecture so attendance is mandatory. Every 216 class takes the same exams but homework differs. His hw consists of about 5 questions that weren't ridiculously unreasonable and helped you learn. MORTE'S THE BEST!
Very funny, engaging, and great at explaining the class's topics. Homework wasn't too bad, sometimes was unclear or difficult, but Morte would clear up any misunderstandings at his office hours, he was very helpful in and out of class. Didn't curve the final, but I don't think many professors did. Would def recommend, wish he taught 206 as well.
Class time is short, so even though he is an engaging professor he goes by unfamiliar topics very fast and the notes/lecture were NOTHING like the hw/tests and you had to learn outside of class. the HW was reasonable length, I am not in fond of in-class quizzes since I don't understand topics right away but they were fine. Didn't curve final at all
Awesome prof. Easily understandable, and is excellent at delivering course material. If you are reasonably good at Python, this class will be easier (OOP is *not* covered). Do pay attention, and study for quizzes and exams regardless of your Python skills. There are a lot of homework/group assignments so just keep up and you'll be fine.
So nice, available and truly cares about students. Very funny, gives awesome opportunities for extra credit and really wants his students to do well. I had him last year and I still come by his office to catch up.
uncle morte is the goat and actually talks to his students. great lecturer and is helpful if you dont understand things
You should take Morte. He is a really funny guy and knows what he is talking about. He is chill about due dates, tells you about extra credit, and sets you up to succeed in general engineering. He is probably the best teacher for 102/216/217 and you should most definitely take him if you can. Just a really cool dude in general.
Professor Morte is an amazing guy. 102 is built around lecture slides and the group you will get in the early in the semester, yet the vibe and knowledge professor Morte brings to class is unrivaled. Highly recommend him for 102, and if you're a freshman coming into 102 with no coding experience, start learning some python NOW.
Didn't love the structure of the class, but he's a great professor. Very chill to talk to and interact with, and does a good job lecturing as well. The class is a lot of coding individually and in groups, and I would recommend setting yourself up with a good grade because the second exam is pretty difficult. Still, overall a positive experience.
Came to A&M with no coding experience, so if you dont have any start learning Python NOW, but I def recommend taking Morte he is one of the more lenient profs and he is really easy to understand and super accessible. There are quizzes every week, but if you just study the nigh prior they are pretty easy take morte if you can!!!
Gave out a lot of extra credit at the end of the day he did his best to ensure his students were well prepared.
Not really a fan of the way A&M goes about teaching beginning level coding, it feels bland and way too overcomplicated for explaining basic lessons. If you took coding in highschool this class is an easy A. If not then you may struggle because I wouldn't have learned much from how it was structured when I took the class.
Mr. Morte's lectures were well paced and thorough. He gives a good amount of extra credit, and he curved the final grade. If you have no coding experience, it will be very difficult to get an A, but if you have some experience, you should be fine.
