Very hard grader, and no explanation for his reasoning. I took all my papers to the writing center for them to find nothing wrong, and still manage to get a D on them. He is a dick.

Mr. Nikkari offers litle to no suggestions regarding improving your paper. He directs you to the Writing Center. He is very much egocentric, self-centered, and cares more about telling stories of his wife than actually teaching us how to write better

what a useless @sshole of a prof. when asked for help this guy ignored me and went and helped somebody else, straight up, dont take this class, somebody**** in this guys cereal and he takes it out on the students.

this guy is a real ****bag he is evil and anail, he treats you like your a child. not all of us are english majors and after class i dont think i ever want to have english again. i sware you have 3 papers but if feels like your doing 20. avoid him at all cost. he dose favor mendical students.

nice guy. funny. laid back. but...does not explain things very well. instead of explaining things, he hands out worksheets. he expects WAY too much when turning in papers. he is an extremely lazy person/teacher. he makes you figure out your own grade.

he is a very hard teacher that expects a lot and doesnt do much to help you know what he expects. The papers anre monotinous with like 20 versions and the quizzes on grammer are pointless, overall take a different instructor.

Avoid taking this class at all costs!! His grading scale is not right. When he grades your papers, he is too lazy to write what you did wrong. He just gives you a yellow sheet and you have to look at the sheet to see what you did wrong. He doesn't explain anything.

Horrible professor. Won't tell you your grade even if you go see him during his office hours where he'll just tell you to leave because he is too busy.

By far the worst English professor. He doesn't explain anything. Grade is based on 3 papers and a presentation. The papers are graded only on his opinions. He makes you turn in a ton of unnecessary things with your papers and you end up turning in an entire portfolio.. 3 times. In addition, the man is very rude and doesn't explain your grade.

This is THEE worst English professor I have ever had. He has no interest in his students or his career, he never answers your question, and was horrible letting the class know what exactly he wanted us to write about. His grading is extremely picky and sometimes won't even grade it if he doesn't like it. DO NOT TAKE HIM!

Worst professor I've ever had. He is not helpful at all and if you ask a question he basically acts like you're dumb. He gives random assignments that no one knows about and gives quizzes that he hasn't even taught the material on. He is super rude and if you don't read your syllabus you will not do well in the class. He makes it impossible for you to get a good grade in the class. I would never recommend him to anyone for any class he teaches.

I have never taken a professor who is as lazy and non-helpful as Nikkari. If you can get another English 250 professor DO IT! The amount of work necessary for a single paper is absolutely ridiculous, but as long as you do all of the work you can get a decent grade.

Mr. Nikkari expects waaaay too much from his students. He never goes over the syllabus with you, but expects you to know everything that's on it. He never reminds you when anything is due, so most kids in my class never had anything they were supposed to bring. He is rude and unhelpful. I would recommend avoiding any classes taught by him.

In the syllabus it says that a good paper is a C and an A paper is a work of miracle. I was originally signed up for another teacher and this teacher was swapped in. Horrible teacher. The papers he expects are papers of someone in a doctoral english class. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

He doesn't consider the fact that not all students are novelty writers. Directions on papers are confusing. I'm so serious, do not take this guy.

Nikkari is the worst teacher I have ever had. Acts like he hates his job and all of the students. Changes the syllabus on a whim and expects students to check his online updates everyday. Tells students they can leave once work is complete, but marks them absent if they leave. Does not put grades online. Gives everyone C's. DO NOT TAKE.

Matthew Nikkari is by far the worst professor I have ever taken. Ask him a question? You won't get an answer. Want to know what you got on your paper? Yeah, that'd be nice. Expect your average paper grade to be "I literally can't give this paper a grade", and don't even get me started on his sweater vests. Do yourself a favor and pass on Nikkari.

Possibly the worst professor I have ever had. A confusing person, where the only way you get any type of grade is if you write how and what he wants you to write about. Otherwise, you will get destroyed. Avoid him at all costs to save yourself! Too much work for nothing...

Worst English class I have ever taken. Miss one class and you might fail a paper. Make one mistake you might fail a paper or he will say he can't grade it. Not clear about anything, it's always a guessing game. Went to the writing center for help and when I told them who my prof. was they all said hes too picky and they probably couldn't help much.

I hope you like to write papers! You need to have 4 rough drafts of every paper you write. You need to write a paragraph for every source you use to explain said source. On top of your 5-10 page paper that you've just stayed up for the past 72 hours to write, you also need to type a self evaluation paper. Have fun!

Nikkari is probably one of the worst professors for english. Try to avoid him at all costs. He is beyond ridiculous when it comes to grading. You never know what grade you have in the class because he never puts in grades on BlackBoard. Almost impossible to get an A on a paper. He is unclear and confusing about everything. Do not take him.

He's not a good professor. The feedback he gives on papers makes absolutely no sense. Half of the time i think he's just writing down random numbers on my papers. You have to do a bunch of commentaries, rough drafts (4 per paper), group projects, and long papers all seemingly at the same time with no explanation. Avoid this professor if possible.

Same as everyone else here. Do NOT take his class if you aren't some research paper writing wizard. Two rough drafts are required each week, four in total for each paper. His grading system is extremely convoluted and hard to understand, as well as him being an extremely tough grader, if you get a grade at all. DONT TAKE AT ALL COSTS!

You do three (five-page MLA) papers and only two count for a grade. You do two group presentations and only one counts for a grade(and they have to be on dif. topics). The only time he teaches anything is the four minutes before each quiz, other than that you are on your own. 10/10 Do Not Recommend

If you are taking any English course and your only option is Nikkari, wait to take it until you can take it with someone else. You get 5 absences a semester, but don't use them. He hands out papers and you can't get them if you aren't there. He is no help during office hours and is apathetic when you ask for help. Doesn't respond to emails either.

Worst Professor ever! I had no choice but to take him and it was the worst idea ever. He was so confusing with what he wanted and barely any help on papers. You never know your grade until final grades are posted. So much paper is wasted in this class. You have to do 4 drafts for every paper and have an annotated bib plus a self eval.

Gave very little instruction and feedback and graded papers very harshly overall terrible class to take would not recommend

DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! He has a horrible grading system on his papers. You will write three papers in total, but his feedback is horrible. He does not make it clear how to improve your next paper and the peer reviews are not helpful because your classmates will have no idea what he wants specifically for your paper. AGAIN, NEVER TAKE HIM!! PLEASE!!

The papers in this class are extremely difficult compared to other sections. He doesnt give any directions on how to write the papers besides the assignment sheet. Relies on peer review way too much without giving any of his own suggestions. You only get a few absences before he drops you and doesnt excuse any absences for any reason, period!

Nikkari does not teach the class. Most classes you will be taught by other students. When he does, his lectures have little to nothing to do with the subjects you will be graded on. There is an essay every day. He is unprofessional and, while an expert on the subject, poor at conveying material. Unclear about what he expects and a very harsh grader

Nicest thing I can say about Nikkari is that he's interesting. Unfortunately, he comes off as rude and unapproachable. He leaves the lecturing largely to the students which is frustrating and tiring. Reading, writing, and quiz every class period-also tiring. Expects a lot from students without giving much in return. Was hoping he'd be better.

Wouldnt recommend this class to anyone ever again . If I can put his teaching as a negative score then I would . Let me start off by saying that his grading and corrections on papers is not clear and when he does and you do the corrections hell give you a bad grade instead of coming back and telling you how you can approve and make it better .

Do Not take this professor. I had to take him completely online due to Covid and he does not communicate with students in any way, if you email him any questions it will take him a couple days to respond and he is rude when he does. He relies solely on the other students to give advice on how to make your paper better and they never do it.

DO NOT take this class with this Professor. He is a very tough grader! He takes a very long time to grade and is very harsh. Many other kids in this class that I have talked to are planning to drop his class. My confidence in my English work has dropped so much in this class. I wish I could go back in time and stop myself from taking this class.

Do not take this professor. He does not teach, does not help, and acts annoyed when student need help. The grade scale is crap and he should not be teaching. All my life I have received As in English until I got to Nikkari.

He doesn't teach ANYTHING at all. Relies more on the students for feedback with papers. He gives terrible feedback on papers and is THE toughest grader in the English department. Very rude replying to emails. Very slow grading papers. Avoid at all costs! I tried to but got thrown in there. Only take him if you love English more than life itself.

If you can take a different professor, do it. Incredibly unorganized and not clear on any instruction for the course if you're lucky enough to get any at all. Only grades you on quizzes and papers which are not worth a lot of points. Quizzes are given with no preface on the material they will test. Super hard grader, all I can say is good luck.

If you can, do not take his classes. He never gave clear outlines, rubrics, or examples of what he expected. His emails were quite honestly rude when he actually decided to reply. Would change the course outline week by week and only when he realized that the whole class was failing during week 4 did he make us attend zoom classes.

He gives us quizzes with absolutely no lectures or study materials. DO NOT take this class! Papers are only worth 11 points and most people got 2-3 points on them. He would mark people down for the stupidest things. DO NOT TAKE HIM

Do not expect help from him, he will just post a bunch of papers that he expects you to search around for on Canvas. If you do something right, its worth little points. If you do something wrong, you will be heavily down graded. Papers are 2000 word papers and only worth 11 points. No lecture to teach you the material, have to teach yourself.

The only class I have had to Withdraw due to the immensely unfair grading the professor has. You can have the most perfectly written and structured paper, but if you mess up slightly on your citations; it completely negates what you've written. Book was useless for quizzes, had an attitude in emails, and basically had the class on autopilot.

if you want to hate English, then take this guy. He makes little to no effort in teaching his class to the point where I cannot call him a professor. You're given three papers and 11 quizzes, all at 11-12 pts, but with the way he grades, expect an E on all 3 papers. He'll respond with your grade in a month. Do not take him! You've been warned.

Really made me feel frustrated toward what used to be my favorite subject. Made me feel like I was being spoken down to, and the best help on getting your papers correct is from other students who also don't know what is going on. Condescending in emails, weekly quizzes on topics not in the book. Incredibly hard on writing.

The worst professor ever. He does not provide clear instructions. He grades extremely harsh. Because he didn't find the topic of my paper interesting in his opinion, he gave me a 1 on it. He has a strange grading system that makes it complicated to find out what our grade is. EXTREMELY rude and he belittles his students.

Where to even start.. He is by far the worst professor. He could care less if students are struggling and comes off as annoyed and irritated when students have a question regarding an assignment. His instructions aren't clear and he takes a very long time to grade. The "quizzes" have no point and there are no clear instructions on his assignments.

Grading was done weeks late, so keeping up with grades was difficult. Professor wouldn't respond to emails until weeks later including approved topics for writing assignments. There was no content for students to study/ learn just quizzes to hope to pass.

Nightmare of a time, I'm usually an A student with English but he grades extremely hard and gives very little actual feedback on grades. Terrible at communicating and cares little for his students. I would heavily caution anyone against taking a class with Nikkari.

If you need an English credit to fill and want to do so online, look elsewhere! His course is nothing short of a living h-e-double hockey sticks. None of his course assignments, discussion boards (which suck), papers, quizzes, or reminders are posted on the main canvas page.

I've never written a review for a professor before now. Just take another class. He's not worth the time. Not only is he condescending, but unhelpful.

There are no words to describe how awful this class was. No help was provided ever. Grade was not given until the end of the year so you didn't know how you were doing in the class and the feedback was a joke. Worst class and professor ever.
