he grades hard and his test are very hard he does not cover the content well at all do not take
Dr. N is fantastic and he is very helpful outside of class. It was difficult to cover all the material however the material that isn't covered in depth during lecture doesn't show up much on his tests. If you read the material before class and are active during lecture you should do well. His ppts are a great help also. I highly recommend him.
He is terrible out of 30 our class only had 2 A's he test on material he has not covered, his test are extremely difficult and he a hard grader any other animal bio teacher will be better
Dr. N is a nice person, however, his test is not consistent with his lectures. You can pass his test by just reading the book and not going to class. A lot of online hw and quizzes. If you can teach yourself the whole book than you'll do fine. But if you're looking for a teacher to teach, stay away.
STAY away from this teacher. He is very mean and he does not know how to teach. His ppt are not helpful at all. He gives 3 test and he does not drop any and one test is about 9 chapters. So far noone is making good grades in class. If you defiantly care about your GPA and do NOT take this person.
Hands down probably the worst teacher at GSU. Very confusing and degrading. Talks down to students when asked questions. Tests are really really tough. The powerpoints he presents in class do not really have anything to do with the test. It feels like he doesn't want to see his students succeed. I don't know how/why GSU hired him.
He is TERRIBLE. The absolute worst teacher I have taken. I am a biology major and I despise him and his teaching. His powerpoints are not relative to his exams at all. Try to avoid him as much as possible if you want to succeed as a biology major.
he is not a good professor. You have to teach yourself. So many chapters in one test and does not drop any tests. If you want to save your GPA then do not take him. If you decide to take his class then start reading chapters ahead of semesters.
One of the worst professors I have ever had!!!! His exams are extremely hard and they have nothing to do with the lecture. Every exam is pretty much up to 9 chapters and you basically have to memorize everything in the book to pass the exam. He really doesn't care about his students and pretty much wants you to fail the course. Do not take him!!!!
NEWS FLASH!!! If more than half the class is failing, then maybe its not the students maybe its you. Its time to reevaluate your teaching methods.
Attending class is pointless, unless there's a clicker quiz. Use this time reading the book, because you're going to need it. His tests seem to come from some type of question bank, which makes the tests inconsistent with what he teaches. The test are anywhere from 6 to 8 chapters, without any study guides. To top it off, he has the worse attitude
2108 isn't an easy class and trying to cover all of the material in class is a huge burden. Read before class and after. He seems nonchalant in class but in his office hours he will GLADLY help you. I recommend taking him if you want to KNOW the material and not just pass to go to Molecular.
Tests are very detailed and quite difficult, but he's a fantastic teacher. Those who complain are usually used to easy A's and expect them to be handed out like they were in high school. He's a real professor with real expectations, which means he prefers teaching knowledge over gaining popularity. Be prepared to work for it, and don't complain.
Whoever said that we're complaining cause we want easy A's is ridiculous. I have A+ in all of my classes in my FULL course load and I get a C in here for studying my butt off? Great guy, knows what he is talking about but what's on his tests is nothing he taught in class. If you are good at teaching yourself, take him. If not, good luck.
I ended up with a good grade, however, I would not recommend this class. It was torture. He is a really smart guy, and I think he will be a great professor in the future. As of now, his exams are difficult and do not correspond well with the lecture material. That was incredibly frustrating! Seriously, the semester was completely miserable.
If you are looking for a easy or reasonable bio class this is NOT the one his test are very HARD and his lectures dont cover the material for his test honestly the text book will be your savior so READ it I managed to get an A in the class but I had to really work hard for it beware!!!
He really knew his information and is very passionate about Biology. His class was def. challenge, but it was manageable. He is a REAL professor that makes you work for your grade. If you are willing to take a challenge and actually learn, I recommend taking him!!
this guy is the worst biology teacher ever. none of his test materials came from the lecture. the test is so freaking hard. does not matter of how much studying, you will fail his test. do yourself a favor, do not take his class or you will ruin ur GPA>
He is the worst professor. When you go up and ask him how to study he tells you to just go through his powerpoint and read further on the topics in the PPt. But the test comes from little details from the chapter which are not even important. I received a grade of A+ in bio 1 with a difficult professor but his class is horrible. Do not take him!!!!
DONT TAKE HIM! The lectures seems so nice and to the point, but his exams comes from somewhere different, his exams have many tricky questions. He doesn't curve either, save your GPA, find someone better.
This guy seems to what his stuffs, however he is not in the advantageof the students. I took a CTW class as a senior, and he makes it so hard on us. None of the CTW classes offered at GSU requires all these works that man put us through, except his. Any senior who needs a CTW course to be graduate DO NOT TAKE THIS DUDE, you will regret.
Do yourself a favor, avoid taking Dr. N! the first week of class I'm sure he's going to go over these reviews and try to convince you all that it's a lie (trust me, it's not!) Don't get me wrong, he knows his stuff, but we never keep up with the schedule and towards the end of the semester, HE CRAMS EVERYTHING! and expect you to know EVERYTHING!
do not take him. he knows his information (duh, he went to school too) but just because someone knows info does not mean they should teach the info.
Very good lecturer. Very nice person. You'll do fine, if you read the book and pay attention in the class. I was always in his office hours, talking about what we had learned in the class. Don't study for anything beyond the slides. online hw, attendance, online quizzes, and extra points will also boost your grades up. Enjoyed his class!
One word.... "NO!" Do yourself a favor, don't take him! He says that his office hours are useful... Trust me, it's not! He's no good with help outside of class, as well as in class. You'll work your ass off in his lecture, GURANTEED!!
HIS exams are just extremely!!! hard...his lectures do NOT correspond to what he is testing on exams!!!I attended all lectures, made thorough notes, read the book, did all homeworks and quizzes, and i ended up with C... Please do not take BIOL 2108 WITH HIM unless you have a VAST background knowledge in Biology!!!
Dr. Nusnbaum is very enthusiastic professor and invested in your learning. His class is a lot of work and studying. Attending is a must because some of the powerpoint aspects are not in the text. He is flexible and receptive to questions during lecture, as well as hw issues, but his exams are indeed very challenging and require a lot of studying.
Honestly, when signing up for Dr.Nusnbaum's class i knew it going to be a challenge. He isn't easy at all, but i do think that he has changed his teaching ways to rather help us as students. I have taken his class before and was rather impressed by his new style of teaching. Beware though he's not easy but he's not out to get you like before!
He knows his stuff but refuses to help us gain the knowledge. His tests are difficult and are not correlated with his lectures (contains things that were from 2 of the 4 chapters discussed in class). No curves, unlike other Bio professors. Very monotone. When he says two essays, he really means two short answers.
I love this cute man. His accent is so good, and speaks very very clearly. He can answer almost all of the questions you ask, even some weird questions, he could give you a satisfied answer! And his test is a bit of difficult, but he give you the points as much as possible, full credits could be 107, so you can easy to take 85+. Good teacher!
Super nice & willing to help! Biology 2108 is a challenging class to begin with and covers a broad amount of material. Nusnbaum did a great job covering everything & I learned a lot. Go to class, take notes, read. Honestly- if you're a Bio major & expect it to be easy, get out of the major - challenges make you a valuable person in the real world.
Professor Nusnbaum... More like Nus The Bomb!!!
Pros: He talks clear, gave one extra credit assignment Cons: What he lectures and what is in the book has nothing to do with what's on the test. He doesn't believe in curves. This was a horrible experience and I would personally never take him again.
He is very difficult. I made a 98 in BIOL1103K so, I didn't expect this class to be very difficult. However, he is very intelligent and knows a great deal about the subject, he just doesn't know how to translate it so his students can understand it. The tests are very difficult and have nothing to do with either the lectures or the text. Good luck.
he's awful. He rather have students fail then be a better professor. His powerpoints are not helpful.
Great teacher specks really clear, but very tough even though I got an A in his class after the first test (80% will probably fail) i started studying 2 weeks in advance in order to pass. slides are not very detailed, I recommend bring a recorder because he tests you on things he says that are not on the slides. Pay very close attention!!!!
This is Biology so of course you need to study. Don't expect any class to be easy. He gives quizzes and other things to help get more points towards your grades. His lectures are clear and he post PowerPoints from class. I did well and I'm not even good with biology. I switched to business. Just study and ask questions during lecture. Focus
For the class Topics in biology: evolution he assigned articles to read. In the beginning of the class most were good reads and some information I had never seen before. However after midterms the assigned readings became overwhelming. One student said it was more work than graduates did. He would forget to post which made it more difficult.
Now that it's over, I can definitely say that he was a great teacher, but I felt like the supplemental information he gave was not helpful. It actually confused many people. The test questions were quite tricky in my opinion. I'd say he needs to bring a mixture of easy, medium and hard questions to balance the load during test time.
I think he's underrated. I think he was a fair professor and gave good lectures! You just have to make sure you study study study the textbook.
I had heard horror stories of having his class. However, I appreciate him for the challenge. The type of focus required for his class needs to be developed before taking the DAT, in my case. I earned a B+, and I'm very proud of it! I need a t shirt for taking his class over summer semester. Get ready, future students! It's tough.
I took him over the summer and it was tough. He is very nice, very approachable if you need help or have questions and very knowledgable. I felt the lectures were not very organized for the condensed time frame and a lot of time was wasted on material that wasn't on the test. I would take him again but not over the summer.
Summer semester is intense. With this class, I died a little. He does help, but it doesn't go too far due to the amount of material you're expected to know for exams. I got a B. I'm glad it's over...
Sometimes people are just too smart to be professors. Some need to be in a field of research. Nunbaum fits that category. He lectures as if we are colleagues already familiar with the info and responds in a condescending tone when you ask a question the he thinks is obvious. Unless you are willing to teach yourself entirely avoid him at all costs!!
If you put in the work, you can do well in his class. He is always around to answer questions. He responds to emails pretty quick and is reasonable to expect students to work hard. The tests are difficult and you will need to study. Lazy people WILL fail this course. If you are a lazy student, Dr. N is NOT FOR YOU!
He really cares about the subject and his students. He does use active participation, off of the required readings, so be prepared. At his office hours, he is very helpful. I went to his office hours 1 time, and my grade increased dramatically from his advice and help alone. If you study and talk to him, you will do well.
His PowerPoints & lectures never correlate to whats on the test. Expect to fail the test unless you read the text book and go to the tutorial center. I honestly wouldnt take him. Class has had failing averages ever since the first test and he has had no curves. I would reccommend rebeka champan. Alot of my friends had her and they enjoy her.
While he's very intelligent and knows enough about the material he is presenting, he lacks the knowledge in which to introduce the material to undergrads. Unless you are on his level of knowledge with him, you will not understand what he is talking about. Do NOT take him unless you want to teach yourself the material. I passed with B because of lab
Bottom line: if you are a non-science major and taking 2108 just to satisfy your science CORE requirement, you are best off finding another instructor. If you are a Biology or Neuroscience major, though, I couldn't recommend him enough. Dr. N is tough, very tough. You will learn a lot and be much better prepared for the rigor of major courses ahead
Anyone reading this needs to know that other people who have poorly rated "Dr. N" are NOT lazy people. Take their words and mine at absolute face value. I have an engineering degree; I am far from stupid/lazy, but I had a very difficult time with this professor. I took the class along with O Chem. I got an A chem, but I may get a C in bio. AWFUL!
Dr. N is super smart. He almost shouldn't be an undergrad professor smart... If you don't like reading the book, don't take the class. If you don't like paying attention in class, don't take the class. If you don't like studying your ass off for exams, don't take him. If you're nerdy and ready to put in a lot of time, you'll do fine.
What you do learn in this class, you will teach yourself. He is a very nice man, but a very ineffective teacher. If you are in his class, drop it now. It makes no sense to pay the school for a class when you have to teach yourself the material. His tests are very LOOSELY correlate to lectures and the text. Sarah Chapman will get you MCAT-ready.
His lecture power points are somewhat helpful, but you must also read the textbook if you're tryna get an A. If you get at least a B in lab, do all his extra credit, get an A on all his quizzes and do all your hw & clicker questions you can pass with at least a B. His tests are hard so that leverage is needed. I wouldn't take him again honestly.
Nusnbaum is a tough professor, and his course is the toughest I've had in my time at GSU. You shouldnt expect to be spoon fed material, nor should you expect simple exams. The contrast in style between his lectures, quizzes, and readings force a more holistic understanding of the content. Those who understand and appreciate that take away lots.
I took him over the summer, and got an A but by the skin on my teeth. I went to all the lectures but didn't find his powerpoints helpful. You MUST read. He was a ridiculous grader for a class of this level. Accessible for office hours, and if he sees you making an effort, he's helpful. Must take advantage of his extra credit. Won't take again.
Honestly, I had to go through a war to pass the class. I honestly would never recommend him to anyone. Pls dont let this man be a teacher of yours as he gives questions that are super detailed, down to the point in which you would need to keep attention to every slide and powerpoint. I beg of you, to not take him!!
Dr. N is fine. A lot of his students have the expectation of doing very little work to get an A (this seems to be a common theme at GSU). This class will teach you how to study effectively and be successful later on.
Dr. N is a very good teacher, I took him for my animal bio class. He makes lectures fun and he has a high passion for every animal he talks about. Do not expect this class to be easy, because its not. His tests are extremely hard and made by him, but if you read everything in his power points and listen to what he says you will do fine.
I took this class over the summer, yes it was faster paced and harder than 2107 but overall Nusnbaum really made sure we understood material and gave extra credit opportunities. There are in class iClicker quizzes for participation credit
Unless you are a Biology or Natural Science major- DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I repeat- DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
He was great.
I have never had a worse experience with a class than this one. Studied endlessly for mediocre grades and then had to deal with him telling us that we were doing poorly because we weren't studying enough. Absolutely should not be teaching an intro course. For the love of god, heed my warning.
He definitely makes you work for your grade. You really have to read the book and pay attention in class. Wouldn't really recommend taking this class over the summer, his tests are harder than usual and I didn't have as much time to read into the material as I would have liked to. but he is passionate about the subject and it really shows!!
Dr. Nusnbaum is over qualified to teach this class! He is so knowledgeable and if you really want to learn and work hard take this class. I was so intimidated that I had to take this class in the summer, but I really enjoyed myself. As long as you read and keep up with your assignments you will do well in the class! He is awesome!!
Whatever you do, listen to all of the reviews about this professor. I did not. I ignored them. I thought things would be different. They were not. If you are NOT A SCIENCE MAJOR, DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE!!! I repeat, stay AWAY! YOU WILL FAIL!! This class is literally the reason for my depression.
Dr. N makes this class much more difficult than it has to be. The zoology portion of the class is completely irrelevant, the content covered in this class is exactly why people misconstrue biology as mindless memorization. His lecturing stresses conceptual understanding but the tests reward memorizing characteristics of random animals.
Dr. Nusnbaum is an excellent professor! He makes learning fun and gives you more than enough resources to be successful. His lectures are interesting and his jokes are so terrible that you can't help but laugh. He also gives way more than enough extra credit opportunities. 10/10 would recommend for anyone nervous about taking a biology course.
WORST PROFESSOR LITERALLY EVER. I mean I guess hes a nice person but by far one of the worst experiences ever. His tests are unnecessarily hard. And if youre thinking this person probably didnt put the work in I PUT THE WORK IN. I spent countless hours studying for this dumb class and still didnt do well. I cry myself to sleep because of him.
Oh, 2108 haters... Dr. N is funny, and super approachable. His teaching style requires that you engage in class, and he focuses a lot on CTW skills. Yes you need to read/write, and yes it's hard to study animal biology. The assignments and tests are diverse, so if you're bad at one thing there's opportunity to do well on another assignment.
Listen to me when I say this : Save yourself and do not take him. This is coming from a student who loves biology. This professor makes the class WAY HARDER than it has to be. He barely makes announcements for quizzes. I have never worked so hard for a class before and I am an A student. His tests are SUPER HARD! You have to read the textbook A LOT
Dr. N was a really great professor, he really likes the subject that he teaches and will answer any question that you have. You will have to work for your grade and he will not just give it to you. If you put in effort and you pay attention in class you will do fine. He is not that bad.
I took 2108K, Summer 2018, and it was by far one of the worse experience I have had at GSU. I studied my butt off and it still wasn't enough. He does not give good feedback. He took a week off for whatever reason and that was literally two weeks of material. Half the class failed the Exam and he, goes, study more. Iwas depressed for 2months after!
Dr. N is very passionate about his chosen field of study and knows his information but isn't the best at teaching it. He's a harsh grader and most of his lectures have nothing to do with the exams. For the exams, stick to the powerpoints and the online quizzes. Some of the short answers on the exams do come from in class lectures so be prepared.
Dr. N is very passionate about biology, however, his teaching/people skills is poor. His lectures are very long and most of the time he just talks and flips through powerpoints.
Dr. N is a very interesting professor. Coming from a 4.0 student, I've never worked so hard for a B. He is very passionate about biology, but his teaching style is ineffective. Some days we were just assigned case studies instead of learning about an entire chapter. Exams had 6-8 chapters, none were dropped. Overall would not recommend.
Dr.N, hes a very nice teacher but he cannot teach at all. DO NOT take this class during the summer I repeat ! Quizzes are online, his test are super heavy and hard. Lecture has a lot of information. There is launchpad HW which is very easy. He doesnt explain himself well either just dont take him I had to work for my grade in this class.
Look, its not hard to get an A in this class. Lab is an easy grade and his exams are only 10% each. I got a 76 on all three exams and still got an A not even an A-. Teacher is more than fair, just a little disorganized, and expects a lot from you. If you study and take it serious you can get an A. Get a c, and u should change majors cuz ur in forit
Have to really think about the concepts and I honestly get confused with the way he talks about things. These concepts should be clearly taught. Assigns lots of articles and research papers that he actually thinks people read. Tests aren't easy either. Just overall not a fun class , tough and confusing for no reason
I found Dr. N to be a solid choice for ani. bio (hybrid), but I had to work for my A! In addition to the Connect assigns., 4 noncumulative exams, quizzes, and in-class discuss. activities, we also had to write fun blog posts. Exams were heavily based on textbook readings, PPT notes, and oral notes (record audio). Watch ani. bio YouTube vids 4 help!
His test are super hard. I took him for the hybrid animal bio course which required a lockdown browser with the webcam. The blog assignment was long and tedious and it seemed like everyone was being graded differently. He knows what he is talking about and if you listen in lecture and pass the blog youll pass the class
Willing to help out if you ask and extremely over-qualified, so he can give you info plus more. But you gotta work SUPER HARD in this class to pass. Even though he gives a terms list, the quizzes (or tests if he changes it) sucked. He also wasn't encouraging when students actually did well in his classes, as if he expected us to fail. Go elsewhere.
Started this course this summer and had to withdrawal after the first exam because he did NOT POST ANY LECTURES. He had a few powerpoints but some of them weren't even related to the material. Prepare to pay for a class in which all you do is read the textbook. I do not recommend him as a professor because he does not teach!
I had to make an account just so I can say this is one of the worst professors I have ever taken. His "reading guides" have absolutely nothing to do with his quizzes and none of his powerpoints are helpful.
He literally sucks. He is late to reply to emails. Quizzes are on lockdown browser there are not tests and I wish I could drop. I do the reading guides and still, fail or barely pass the quizzes. This class literally sucks and the professor is so rude. Tell him you need help and he'll say to study more do not take him online.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! HES THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. BEWARE OF THE LITTLE TO NO EFFORT HE PUTS INTO THIS CLASS!
I would not recommend taking this class with this professor.
Make an account to give this review. He does not care about students at all, all quizzes with lock down browser with webcam. Sometimes he did not answer email at all.
DO NOT PUT YOURSELF THROUGH THIS CLASS WITH DR. N. He does not lecture whatsoever, you are teaching yourself everything and your mental health will suffer heavily. He does not care about your performance and does not listen to any feedback from students. You will have no time to yourself killing yourself over this class, while he puts in no effort.
If insanity is what u wish, only then u should take this professor. Dude, literally said he does not believe in lectures. Expect u to learn concept heavy course just by reading book and not teach. I have no idea why I even paid for a course where I have to do everything. Quizzes not match his powerpoint, term list, and his classes r irrelevant.
Just don't. You have read all these reviews you know this professor is not good. I don't need to repeat what already been said. Focus on the dates, focus on how professors are during pandemic. Do not look at those good review from 2016, focus on the recent ones. And you know he sucks.
Made an account just for this review. Took him this summer was the worst thing I did. He is not understanding and acts fake. It is like he wants you to fail. This is coming from a good standing student. He does not want to teach and thinks that just by reading the book one can learn. He will not lecture. I felt like crying and was depressed after.
Subject is heavy and hard, but he does not lecture. His classes are him talking about irrelevant topics, powerpoint and quiz terms none comes in exam. Lockdown WEBCAM. Too much homework, 4 blogs (Long & time comsuming), homework, 8 exam-like quiz, discussions, group activities. Majority of time is spent of his class. Just dont put stress online.
literally the worst professor I have ever had in my three years of college. he does not care about you at all, gives absolutely no help, and does not lecture. he is selfish, rarely responds to emails, and doesn't value your time. he gave 2 assignments over thanksgiving break. do not take this class you will learn NOTHING.
Cool teacher
Like what...4 weeks into the semester? AWFUL. No lectures at all. Expects us to learn everything from the textbook. He also doesn't realize that were only taking this class because we have to. I promise 90% of us don't want to be here. won't learn anything and he won't help you learn anything. Think of him more of a moderator and less of a teacher
Summer registration is coming. If you are planning to take 2108 with this guy, you will regret it and I really mean it! Doesn't want to lecture, quizzes don't match book, he just wants you to fail. DO NOT take him. I repeat, do not take him unless you want to fail. I don't even know how he became a professor in the first place. I'm an A- student.
The only teacher I've had with literally no lecture that wasn't a lab. This plus no assignments or resources to focus on the important information for the quizzes makes it incredibly difficult to get an A in this class. There's a lot of tedious homework too. I can't give him a 1 as Idk how he teaches lol. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone online
Should be avoided at all costs! He was one of the worst professors I have had. He will literally give you study guides that will not help on the quizzes at all. I would recommend to not even do the study guide and focus on other resources. All my classmates communicated with him that the quizzes were not lining up w/ study guide and he did nothing!
Made the quizzes the hardest thing in the world with his wording of questions and select all that apply.
Quizzes were very intricate and had a large impact on the course's final grade. Lots of reading assigned from the textbook and only one class a week was dedicated to lecture, so it often felt like I was teaching myself everything. However Dr Nusnbaum is very passionate and helpful if you have questions
This is the worst class I've ever taken. During lecture he says no useful information whatsoever and will digress so far away from the point. The quiz is nothing like what is taught in class. The quiz is "on the textbook" but there will be unknown material. I took it over the summer and wanted to cry. Change your schedule if you have to.
His test do not cover the material you learn in class AT ALL. The quizzes are the hardest thing on the planet!! His lectures are not helpful in the slightest. Reading the textbook will save you!
tests are hard; 50% of final grade But read the book Do the extra questions; look on quizlet for related questions Had 2-3 chapters/week Sometimes the tests had questions mentioned in the HW or lecture But he dropped 2/7 quizzes No extra credit Not very considerate; I had bad internet connection sometimes but he was unyielding BE VERY CAREFUL
He's literally the worst teacher ever as you can see 26% of people would take his class again. He is very unrealistic, gives busy work, and is unsupportive of his students. He gives high school group work and rants about his mandate family the whole class so you don't learn anything. Be prepared to teach yourself he's crazy concepts.
Exam has open responses and the multi-select were tricky, so the exams were hard (open-notes tho). Attendance is not required for a grade, but he does sometimes assign group work during class time which basically means you have to show up to class meeting to do the assignment. Overall, nice teacher and the HW and discussion board were pretty easy.
Seems like nice a guy but had to write a blog which he grades by his own opinion & gives minimal guidance on. Class times spent with people complaining about their grades/doing group work that takes more time than given in class. Minimal lectures that do not relate to quizzes which are purposely tricky and no amount of studying makes up for that.
Yeahh, no. He has a narcissistic and patronizing behavior. He knows his information when he gives his lectures, but the quizzes sometimes seem completely different from what is talked about. His lectures are more like fun facts. A blog was assigned (unnecessary and tedious) which was graded hard. The class ended up feeling more like a lit class.
He is really nice but he does not accept late work at all. He makes you work for your grade and ATTEND HIS LECTURES there are graded assignments in each lecture which counts a lot towards your grade. EXAMS are HARD but they are about 30% of your grade which is amazing! HOMEWORK counts more than exams. Final is optional and you have extra credit.
He is okay at teaching. I don't like that he teaches like he is talking to kids. he does have unnecessary rules for no reason. Kudos to him in handling a mid-semester take-over a bit well. If you take him, read the textbook and know the questions on the achieve quizzes because quiz questions for the class do come from achieve. GL.
People are right when they say he grades hard. He is a professor at the end of the day and wants to make sure his students are prepared if this is a subject in a field they wish to pursue a career in! He is super caring, and he does want to help! So please reach out to him if you are struggling. He will meet you where you are and help you.
Makes things due at random arbitrary times. I missed numerous assignments for assuming things were due at 11:59 like every other professor. Tests are open-note but he takes points off for not answering exactly how he would answer on short answer. Slow grader. Asks rhetorical questions in lecture. Your grade is mainly group work and a comic strip.
Harsh graders especially on short response questions on tests and group assignments. Weird due dates like 6pm on a Sunday for an assignment, but also 11:30pm for a discussion post. Inconsistent and very tough grader. Attendance not mandatory but you NEED to do group assignments in class for grades.
Pedagogy in STEM was an online discussion class where we met once a week to discuss teaching and education. There are discussion posts and short answer quizzes. Some group tasks. You create your own original assignments. He was nice, but he never updated grades. He only gave feedback on major assignments, not our actual quizzes. Overall, easy A/B.
He straight up does not teach. The lectures are useless, and he expects student to nearly memorize 2-3 textbook chapters per week. The homework is excessive but is also the only content that relates to the quiz material. He doesn't curve anything, the quizzes (50% of the final grade) are ridiculously hard, and he's condescending towards students.
Please listen to what the others are saying! He must be tenured, with the number of bad ratings he has. If you're not willing to spend allll of your time studying for this class, don't do it. He talks in circles, and his online course is disorganized, basically copying and pasting assignments without changing the dates, among other things.
Graded activities every class, homework every friday AND 5 tests and a final. The test 5 and final test were literally 2 days apart, who does that? A week before the final/test 5, he assigned a project to write an article about a random topic. Unnaccessible, wouldnt release tests, wouldnt allow to disagree w him (tho its a philosophical class)
Horrible. Whatever you do, take this class with a different professor. I read every single page of the text book and attended class and averaged a C+ on all quizzes. I am a 4.0 student and work very hard. This class is ridiculous. Terrible teacher. Take someone else. Not inspiring, not helpful, class is worthless but for credit.
His lectures are so pointless as you either do a group work assignment or he spends the entirety of the class asking rhetorical questions that add no value to the discussion. Nothing he talks about in the lecture is the actual content that shows up on the exam and his exams are ridiculously hard for no reason.
Will not recommend him to anyone. Choose another professor for this class.
Be prepared to do lots of reading, uses lecture as a discussion of the overall material. A lot of the learning is on your own but is super helpful if you have any questions. Do the work!
His assignments are extremely vague with poorly communicated requirements, and he takes it personally if you seek clarification. He's long-winded and often rude to his students during class discussions, which are the majority of class because he doesn't plan anything else. He didn't grade ANY course work until the penultimate week, with no feedback
He doesn't teach. He just talks about the topics which is not helpful. You have to learn everything but yourself by reading the textbook.
Not the greatest lecturer, spends too much time on ideas and figures that are unnecessary for the quizzes and assignments. Would not take again unfortunately, however he has an alright personality. He isn't a terrible professor but he's there, he's going to Georgia Tech to teach neuroscience. Good luck you guys you need it.
- Attendance is not required, but 1 in-class group-based graded assignment each week - 7 quizzes; worst grade gets dropped - CUMULATIVE final - various discussion boards and in-class activities graded for accuracy - Homework assignments are on Achieve. PPTs provided are not adequate for quizzes, so you MUST read the textbook to be successful.
