This guy knows what he is doing. Fun helpful with extra credit. Posts his slides online and gets back to you via email. The groupd projects were tough but overall this class was one of the most interesting I have taken in a long time. I highly recommend taking his classes.

A very interesting class. Good use of films and it felt like I was learning things that might be useful. He's great with email and getting back to you if you have a question or anything. Overall, a good professor to take if you actually want to learn something.

There are instructors who understand the student experience and those who don't. This professor seems to reach out to students and uses a lot of media to get you to think. Not an easy grader but let's you do as much extra credit as you want to get the grade you want. Overall, highly recommended.

The professor was a funny guy, who really knew what he was talking about. His lectures were easy to follow since he had power points and great videos. The quizzes weren't too bad though some of the multiple choice were hard to find in the book. The group project was difficult to come up with, but in the end he was satisfied with most of the groups.

the class was awesome until group works came to effect,i dont like group works,thats why i liked soc 214 better than this one,i prefer no group works anymore,cause im not good at that and that really effect my grade.if we wouldve stuck only on few more reflective papers,i am all for that.sorry i have to speak and tell how i feel.but other than that

Excellent Professor. Really makes you work hard but not on trivia. Attendance is not mandatory but he gives hints so its best to show up. Some of the videos he showed blew my mind. Like some of the other reviewers said he is really funny and helpful. He is probably one of the best professor's I have had so far.

His class had a good relaxed atmosphere, but his quizzes were still a bit challenging. His teaching style was good and I learned a good amount in this class.

By far the best professor I've had in years. Makes you write a good among of papers, but overall will work with you and the entire class. Gets you involved, shows many video clips to switch it up once in a while. Anyone that wants a fun class and not just another, "I'm only showing up because I'm suppose to" class, should take this class.

He tries to keep the class as interesting as possible. There's a lot of material that is covered, and you are expected to write a good number of papers. However, the quizzes aren't too bad, and he is a fair grader. Overall, it's a good class, and hes an effective instructor.

I only had him as an online professor so I have never actually met him in person. Besides that fact though, I think he is a really good teacher. He grades fair, I learned a lot from him, and he always seemed animated.

Online class, which I usually despise. However, he manages to keep this class relevant, humorous, an (dare I say) pretty fun! He utilizes unique movies and books that pertain to the subject matter of aging. I think he managed to bring the topic of aging to the minds of a lot of people...lively discussions. Professor O'neill is one of the best one I had yet. Very helpful always willing to listen, somehow he gives us all the aswers to our mid-term and finals but yet his teaching style has already prepared us to know them before he can tell us the answer. I highly recommend him!

It was an intersting class. Directions for the class were clear. Because it was an online class it was very hard to know how well or badly you are doing. we were not given feedback weekly like most classes so not really sure if I did well or not in this class but it was informative and I learned much from reading the text! fun class!

I loved this class, partly because I am aging and because I learned things that I was not aware of regarding the economics, politics and the healthcare of aging. Also, I enjoy classes where the instructor is also engaged in his/her subject.

Professor O'Neil explained globalization in terms I could understand. The concepts were very hard and the textbook was really tough to read but through his lectures and discussions I really feel like I learned something. All the extra credit offered didn't hurt either! Generally I think this is a good class and he is a knowledgeable professor.

I love his classes so much I am taking 2 more of his classes next semester!! I requested for any of his classes before finding out what he was teaching. He is very fun in class and great in making us understand the subject through his ways of teaching helps me understand the subject to it's maximum.

He's a really great teach and knows what he's teaching and takes it seriously. he's able to answer the types of questions that you have on site or outside of class if necessary.

I had Prof. O'Neil for my Medical Sociology class over summer, and I think he is an awesome professor. He is willing to help students learn the material, but he won't baby you. A lot of writing, but prompts are easy. You just need to put in the effort, and you can pass the class with a high grade.

Fantastic class. Really enjoyed Dr. O'Neil's style of teaching. He combines online discussions with our text book, films and essays to facilitate student's learning. I took SOC 353 Sociology of Aging from him. It was writing intensive, which he made it clear from the start of the class. The films were totally awesome to watch!

Super cool teacher. Listen in class to the lectures and take notes on the slides. Write essays with actual purpose and do the online tests! Easy class if you pay attention, but he's funny and personable so it's not too hard to do so.

Class was well structured, and instruction is relatable. He has a very personable and charming demeanor, open to questions and concerns, and generally seems to value students opinions and insights. Side note-I have to say that I find it bothersome that there is an appearance rating on this, it's a terrible reflection of our society.

I really appreciated this professors thorough and detailed lectures. If something is a little questionable he will clarify his lecture topic until you actually understand it. He really knows his stuff. I would take it again. I think I will have to. I do appreciate if he would allow me to finish my work and turn it in as he said he would.

I'm taking the SOC354 Survey of Medical Sociology (WI)online class right. Prof Matthew O'neil is great! Does not over load you with homework at all, just make sure you do them all. He lets you turn in a draft and gives you feedback and then you submit a final. His due dates are generous! Just make sure you do the work! The quizzes are kinda hard.

Hard driving individual. Expects a lot from students so potential can be achieved.

Professor made it very easy to take class, yet not to easy. The paper requirements are not to easy not to hard, He doesn't accept late papers which is understandable. Don't turn in late papers. He is a no BS kinda teacher but he doesn't give you a reason to BS because he makes it easy to pass, so if you don't pass then thats your fault.

I'm currently taking this class online, so I don't know the final grade yet. This is my first upper level writing intensive class, so I did appreciate the chance to submit drafts and get feedback before turning in the final paper. I actually prefer online courses because you get the benefit of your classmates experiences and feedback.

Learned alot in this class. My husband has a masters in Economics and this class led to some great discusions in our house hold. I reallly enjoyed the class content and thought the instructor relayed the information in a positive and insiteful way.

Very clear about his expectations. Drives you to want to learn why? Not just do the work. As a KOKUA student, he works with you to make sure you have things done, but doesn't treat you like there is something wrong with needing help.

Matthew O'Neil give clear and understandable information on the subject the he teaches. He provides help where help is needed. For example if a student does not understand his lectures that he is talking about he provides a power point for his lectures so that the students are able to get info that was unclear. He is a good professor.

This is a mandatory class that I would not normally take. Although this is not a writing intensive class there is a lot of writing. He does NOT hand out A?s. He is very approachable and easy to talk to. Works with you if there are issues.

Great class overall, he understand that even though it is an online class he is always there for answer any questions/concerns via email. I have a lot of respect for Professor O'Neil and his way of teaching. I enjoy this class because were learning about everyday living and there's things that students are not aware of. His lectures has opened my eyes and expand my understanding on the reality of life. I'm very comfortable with this course and have recommended it to others.

This class was easy to follow. I liked the set up of how we came to class for three classes and had two classes off for movies, papers, and quizzes.

The class was well organized. Goals and deadlines of the class were clear from the start. Using films to guide the essays was a good way to keep it interesting. Lectures were never boring.

O'Neil was one of the best teachers that I have ever had! He has a very organized method of teaching and expectations are very clear. This professor is really good. he responds to emails, has interesting assignments. My mother is getting older now and I took this course to help me understand the changes in her life. This course really helped me do that and the discussion with other students made this feel like what was happening in my family was not unusual. I felt empowered.

I have always wondered why some people are rich and other people are poor, despite efforts and work ethic. I think I have a better understanding after taking this class. Good films and the guide sheets helps you answer the questions. The professor responds to emails right away. You have to respond to the discussion questions or you lose points.

The films were interesting and the guide sheets were helpful. I also thought the feedback on the papers was useful. I still have to work on citing sources.

I am taking Soc 354 and what I can say is Professor O'Neil is on top of it. If I have a question, it gets answered right away. He give detailed (sometimes too much if you ask me) feedback on written work and we have really good discussions every week. Overall this maybe the best online classes I have ever taken, don't know about my grade yet.

By FAR my favorite online professor. I've taken manyyy online courses as well as 1 other WI online and never have I had such a pleasant experience as I did in this class. I'm not a med student nor a soc student but he made this class very approachable and always quickly responded to any questions I had. Overall, he made this summer class enjoyable!

Weekly discussion posts, three papers, and two movies to watch. The final paper is a ten paged paper which is not as bad as you may think because he provides questions to answer. He responds to emails and questions very quickly. Very interesting class. Pretty tough grader, but great teacher!

The class was well paced with weekly discussion posts, film reviews that alternated with quizzes, and a final paper at the end. He gives time for revision. However, the grading is rather strict, so if you think you can use this class as an easy A please reconsider. The overall content was very interesting and emails are answered promptly.

He is the only teacher that actually responds via email in a VERY TIMELY MANNER! Unlike others who have online classes they take 48- 72 hours just to answer a simple email. O'Neil cares that much to respond quickly. (took his class last year)

This class was both Ethics and Writing Intensive so it fulfilled a lot of requirements. The tests were from the textbook and slides. The discussions were awesome people in my class really made things interesting. We also had to write some papers and watch some movies but they were interesting. Good professor would recommend.

I plan to be a police officer and this class was an interesting way of looking at deviance and social control. The professor used some interesting films and articles. There was a lot of discussion posting but the conversations never got too heated. The quizzes were pretty much straight from the lectures. Overall, good credits.

I was in the Globalization class. We talked a lot about China. At first it didn't seem that important but as the semester went on I got it. What happens in China actually does affect us here. I got a better sense of how everything is connected. He was great with returning emails too.

This class used a non-standrad textbook so that waqs an adjustement. Instead of a chapter, we had to read and write about in Discussion over 3 or so articles. The proffessor gave some discussion question starteters butid you hadn't read it made it hard to respond. He did answer questions in a proper fashion though.

This was a summer cvlass. The syllabus was tight and he sent an email every weeek laying out what you had to do. Lot's of reading and discussion. AS few papers and with an ETH focus we got to talk about medicine not as future doctors (which I want to be) but as people in the system. The final term paper had some philosophy in it but a guide sheet.

THe term paper was from a difficult book about the narrative of illness. tHe discussions were interesting and he held a weekly "office hour" though I never went. Not bad for a summer course.

Dr. O'Neil provided an excellent educational experience. He made himself available for questions and was very responsive. He gave us a lot of opportunity to connect with one another and the discussions were lively and informative. I will look for other courses to take from him. He is an excellent professor.

This class used a wierd textbook. It was a bounch of short articles. But it led to a bunch of cool conversations. The Professor set up the discussions to mess with your head. Peopl tlaked about their experiences, their political positions and their respons to the films required in the course. At the end, I' not sure what just happened.

He had us watch gangster movies with a guide sheet to help us write papers. He was very thorough in reviewing initial drafts. I think I did well overall in the course but have yet to take the final. I would take this class again. I learned some stuff I think might be helpful later.
