The class started off rocky for me, because I am not really a fan of every part of evolution..... BUT, Prof. Palmtag is AWESOME... He explains everything very well, and compared to his counter part Sanders, he is the best thing since sliced bread! I would recommend him to anyone. Sanders, not even to my enemy!
He's a terrible professor, and don't even think about asking him a question he'll make you feel so stupid for not knowing the answer. He's basically useless.
He manages to make anything confusing from lecture easier to grasp, especially since lab involves hands-on learning. But at the same time, you do have to know the jist of it. If you don't study, he can't help you because you don't help yourself. Come to lab as prepared as you can, ask questions, and you'll get a solid understanding of the material.
I felt he was the better of two evils, but his idea of help was telling us in class to meet him in office hours. After I dropped this class I found out that my class was the worst class on campus with 29 F's and 14 D's out of an 80 person class! This was half way through the course. If you want to pass biology, avoid this teacher!
The professor was useless at first. I later went to the office hours he offered after i feared i would fail the class. If you use these office hours it will help. he goes over everything you will need to do okay in the class. I had him with sanders who was way worse of a professor. Be happy you have palmtag to go to instead of sanders.
Palmtag is a great teacher, his powerpoints are not helpful but if you take notes based on what he says during lecture you will be fine. You dont have to read the text book he only tests on what he said in class. Attendance isnt mandatory but if you go to class regularly he will bump your grade up a couple points at the end of the semester!
I like him, he will help during class if there is confusion. I don't find his powerpoints helpful but his lectures are, and everything that's on the exam is covered in class. I use my book to study, but others don't use it and it was really expensive.
Very, very hard class. Study a lot! We had Professor Humphries the first half and Professor Palmtag the second half. It was like two separate very difficult classes!
This was an ok professor. Not one of the best at FGCU, i would recommend trying to get another if possible. He was just ok, very confusing at times, not very good at explanations, and not the best class notes. This is a professor you have to go home and teach yourself a lot to get a good grade. I studied HARD and got an A+ so it is possible.
he is a tough teacher, you have to be willing to spend a lot of time studying. his quizzes and tests are difficult and wordy but overall covers the subject well
This teacher made a hard subject easy. Didn't need to crack the book, just study the power points got an A.
One of the best teachers I've had. There is a lot of complicated information to absorb and Palmtag breaks it down well. His lectures are organized as well as supplimental activities to help you learn. Do the study guides. It's a lot of work, but they are the exam. I earned an A in his class. He is definitely recommended!
Likes to talk about fish. Bio is hard in general, he's not too bad. Nice enough guy, kind of sarcastic. You have to study really hard. Online quizes on the labs, and he doesn't tell you when the tests are so you need to keep up with it on your own. His lectures are alright and he is an okay teacher. meh
Palmtag is a great lecturer. Though the exams are hard he goes over the most complicated material many times. Funny and engagiing, great class.
Great teacher very clear in what he wants of you on the tests. He emphasizes on things in lecture, those concepts are on tests. Also do his study guides and youl do just fine.
Biology is hard from the beginning. But he is a really great professor. He knows what he's talking about and uses many examples and activities to help you understand. Class isn't mandatory, howe you are graded for classwork and labs so if you miss a class your grade will drop a bit. Go to his review sessions! they help! I HIGHLY reccomend him
Great professor. Has thorough lectures which cover all test material. Offers extra credit for attending test reviews, is very willing to work with you and help with any matieral. As long as you do the study guides and go to labs, you'll be fine.
He was awesome! Everyone told me not to take Bio my first semester and Palmtag was just golden! It was my favorite class. He's super helpful, you get attendance points and his studyguides are awesome. My advice is to follow along in his lectures with your computer and type sidenotes, he answers any questions and is super fun!
Biology is a hard course without a doubt but Pro. Palmtag made it easier to understand. His exams were exactly was on the study guides. This class requires a lot of studing & tutoring. Im at a 76%C and have not missed one class, and study for countless hours for the exams.
Bio is a hard subject but Palmtag was interesting and he makes it fun. You learn from his powerpoints and his tests are easy as long as you review the powerpoints. its a long class but he makes sure to have hands on things :) I recommand him!
Amazing professor! Extremely willing to help you. Always asks if anyone has questions at the end of a topic. LOTS of studying, but his study guides help ALOT. He'll explain a topic to you 100x until you get it. Responds quick to emails. If you miss class, you get a zero on the daily assignment, lab quiz, and lab assignment. Strongly recommend him!
Great professor!! He is willing to help outside of the classroom. He use to breed fish so he loves talking about tropical fish and their development.
Palmtag is an amazing professor, i passed bio without using the text book but the lab book is a must. He is a great professor and adds his own bits of humor to the lesson, his tests are fairly simple and pushes students to visit him during office hours. All and all biology was a great experience with this professor
Palmtag was one of the best professors I have ever had! He is extremely willing to help, if you take the time yourself to reach out. Biology is a hard subject but Palmtag explains it very well. I would take him again! His test reviews are extremely helpful and fair. Overall nice guy and very knowledgeable.
This was a hard class, especially if you are a science major. Bio has always been an ok subject. Tests cover five chapters at a time. He doesn't even teach all the time. The labs are what helped bring my grade to a B. If you really want to pass this class, REALLY STUDY HARD FOR THE EXAMS.
This was an EXTREMELY hard class. This professor offers no extra credit on assignments or tests. Lectures and PowerPoints can be vague. This class definitely requires a lot of studying! Attendance/classwork is only 1.5% of your grade, quizzes are 15%, tests are about 82%. If you don't show up for lab, you cannot take the quizzes!
The class was difficult on certain chapters and easier on others. Professor Palmtag definitely made it better than other professors. Yes there are quizzes every week but they're easy. It's the test you have to study for, but again not bad.
Professor Palmtag is a very kind and humerus instructor-summer with Palmtag and Humphries. I aced all of the exams due to studying hard and going to their office hours to review my mistakes. Palmtag is more interactive and its really more helpful. Go to him with any questions and he will help. The class is not that hard, you just have to try.
Learned so much in this class due to Prof. Palmtag. He explains things very clear and will answer any questions if you ask. He was extremely helpful during office hours. Be sure to study hard for his tests!
Great professor! It's a tough course but if you put the work in you will do fine. Gives study guides for every exam which thoroughly prepares you. Very helpful during office hours, will go over missed exam questions with you so you understand your mistakes. I recommend him for any class!
Extremely challenging course! Helpful during office hours. His reviews don't really help you on the exam however I continue to complete them. Once 1/3 of the class has dropped he gives you hints about what will be on the test. Really disappointed, he has become rude these last couple weeks, I guess he's ready for the semester to be over too.
Great Professor! Does a great job of presenting difficult concepts. Professor Palmtag knows the material well and his exams reflect what he covers in lecture. Bio 1 is a difficult class but Palmtag is very helpful and works hard to make sure that students understand the material.
Prof. P is a really great bio teacher! He provides study guides for each chapter which are also used for the final exam. He's very helpful after class and during office hours AND gives extra credit points on tests. Any bio class is hard if you're not willing to study but Palmtag gives good study tips and really cares. Take him!
Great professor. Does a good job explaining complex concepts and is more than willing to explain something again both in class and during office hours. Gives a study guide for every exam and the final. Do them and you will be more than prepared. Gives extra credit to students who stay for the review. Makes a hard class a little easier.
Biology is not an easy class but if you work really hard it is possible to do ok if not well. Make sure you take good notes through his lectures and use them to study for the tests. Palmtag was always willing to help with any questions and is a great teacher compared to others. He holds a review before each test make sure you go they are helpful!
Best teacher in the world so far my favorite teacher iv had. Hes really sweet teaches very well and clear and if you dont get something he LOVES it when you ask questions. Its bio so its a hard subject... well I wouldn say hard I would say a lot of information to retain. So study study study! Pay attention in class exams are your only score really.
What a wonderful professor. Lectures are clear ,but of course or requires a lot of study. Overall good professor. Also right person to be promoted.
How to succeed: study EVERY daily activity, powerpoint slide, and the extra details during lecture. His study guides are somewhat helpful, but it really doesn't impact you if you don't do it. Go to his office hours, the more interest you show in the subject, the better your grade will be. PRAY, STUDY, & repeat! 4 exams+final= make or break
Professor Palmtag is such a lovely professor and really patient. He is always ready to help students when they need help. He will always repeat something if needed. He has really good TAs which are helpful. Always go to every class and he is understanding when you have to miss class as long as you tell him and sign something to be excused from lab.
This is one of the best Biology professor I ever had because he was helpful, he can repeat something if needed, and always ready to help students. Of course, Biology you have to really study a lot and put at least 10-15 hours per week outside class. Go to whole SI session, office hours, review sessions for exams, and even review old material.
This was my 2nd time taking Biology. I took Schultz first and have him and ended up with a B. He really helps students and gives study guides as well. Here is what I did: went to SI 2-3 times a week, go to office hours, study on index cards, and review material every week especially old ones.
Here are the following ways to do well in Bio:go to SI 2-3 times a week and go for whole session if possible, go to office hours, attend all lectures and lab, and review all daily activities, do mastering biology if possible, and review study guide and slides. He is such a helpful professor and this was my 2nd time taking the class.
Good professor and offered tutoring for some students. Best bio professor and simplifies the material well. The SI and TA are great. Got a B
Great professor, his lectures are clear and straight to the point. He has no problem repeating things as many times as the students need. Although this class is hard because duh its Bio, he does a good job. Take advantage of his office hours and the SI's that help a lot!!
Professor Palmtag teaches the hardest class -Bio- but honestly, he's a great professor and I've learned a lot. Actually studying and getting into groups will help. HE IS THE BIOLOGY TEACHER YOU WANT
Best bio teacher. He might be considered the hardest but he knows how to teach the material he is very good at explaining things and is beyond helpful. Just pay attention during the lectures and study the daily activities and you're golden
Go to class, take notes study for two hours per week, get an A
FANTASTIC PROFESSOR! If you are taking bio, you need to take him! So helpful at office hours and will repeat things as many times as the class needs. Provides study guides for each test and plays a review game where you can receive extra points for the exams. The class is difficult, may drop it, but if you are going to succeed it will be with him!
Palmtag is a great professor! Biology is a hard class and deals with a lot of concepts, but he lectures in a way that is easy to understand. He is funny and really tries to help you succeed. His test are hard, but if you pay attention, don't miss class, and study hard you will pass with a good grade.
hard class but as long as you go to class and study the day before the exams you'll pass
This professor is amazing! He is the best teacher for this class and makes the subject so easy to comprehend. I was nervous taking this class but I never thought I would do so well! Make sure you take a lot of notes from his lecture, do the study guides and make flash cards, then you will be sure to get an A! Use his discussion boards for help!!!
If your taking Biology 1 you NEED Palmtag he is the best professor for this course he explains everything so simple that when I could understand if you do the study guides take good notes in class and listen to his lecture because he likes to drop some hints on a possible question on the exam during his lecture. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR
You must take part in the labs to clearly understand the material from the lecture.
Palmtag is a must have for Bio 1, repeats and asks questions in lectures if needed, always willing to help, but the tests can be difficult at times. The TAs are awesome and I enjoyed most of the labs so far. Sitting pretty with a solid B right now.
If you're looking for a good Biology 1 professor, look no further. There is no "easy" bio professor there are just those who make it more understandable and Palmtag falls into that category. Be prepared to put in a lot of studying, this goes for every bio class. SHOW UP TO CLASS. There's a reward for good attendance at the end of the semester!
Professor P is honestly the best biology 1 teacher here at FGCU. He really cares about his students and makes his class interesting. You're going to have to study your tail off no matter what bio teacher you take. But his tests are very clear and he gives study guides. Bio is a hard class so don't take it if you're not willing to put in the work!
ABSOLUTE BEST BIOLOGY PROFESSOR. This class is tough. The average grades on exams are low Cs, but its possible to earn an A. There are always detailed study guides and he is very clear in his lecture.
Professor Palmtag is a awesome professor and sometimes funny. Enjoys talking about fish sometimes, but he loves teaching Biology. He is definitely helpful in the office hours. Just get help when you don't understand something and he does not have any problems repeating something. Review Daily activity and study guide. Go to Office hours and SI.
He is an amazing teacher! I first took Biology with sanders and failed because he was absolutely horrible, retaking biology with Palmtag was so different, & and I'm leaving his class with a High B/ Low A. He is so clear and helpful. He does give extra credit and his test are very clear!
If you want to take Bio 1 at FGCU, I couldn't recommend Professor Palmtag enough. He knows exactly what he is talking about, and is an amazing Professor overall. He is also occasionally funny. Would've definitely had an A if I had taken more in-class notes. Really is a shame he doesn't teach Bio 2, definitely would take him again.
He is one of the harder bio professors on campus, but if you need bio II, take him because he'll prepare you for it. Also there is no way you'll get an A or a B with out doing the study guides he offers. He's approachable if you have a question after class, and I would recumbent going to SI lectures.
Probably the best teacher I took at FGCU. He loves biology, knows how to explain it and is really nice. You have to put the time in to get an A (read the chapters, work through the study guides), but his expectations were clear and reasonable, and he was always willing to answer questions, no matter how stupid. I wish all teachers were like him.
TAKE THIS MAN! It'll be the best decision you ever made in your college career. Just pay mild attention in class and DO THE STUDY GUIDES and you'll be fine! He tells you what he expects and warns you on some questions that'll be on the exam. When I took it he made the final exam optional so that's a plus!
He is an awesome professor. He is willing to help in and out of class. This class still requires work out of class. His class is fun and funny sometimes. I really enjoyed this class, without him I would not understand Biology. Thanks Professor Palmtag
Take him he's the best
DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR BIO 2! This is his first time teaching Bio 2 and it is horrible. His powerpoints are not clear at all, he pretty much expects you to already know what he is talking about. His test are worth 95% of your grade and he gives no extra credit ad does not drop any. The only way to pass this class is to be able to memorize plants.
This is his first year teaching Biology 2 lecture and he is not helpful at all. His powerpoints in classes do not teach you anything as they are just bullet points with no definition. The tests are next to impossible unless you can read his mind. They are not on any of the material he teaches in class. 100% do not take for Bio 2.
Prof Palmtag is an amazing professor. It breaks my heart to see the negative comments because he really cares about his students, even giving a 15 point curve on an exam to make it more fair. He is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. You have to study to do well, but he is more than willing to meet you halfway.
One of the best professors I've had; his lectures are very easy to follow along and he's an incredibly nice person. He's not one to spoon-feed his students, which is why I think others think negatively of him, but if you go to class, take detailed notes, and ask questions/participate in class, you'll do well. His tests are extremely fair as well.
Palmtag is an awesome professor. I only had the chance to be in his class for the first half of Bio I and I am extremely sad to see him go. I have a 100 in the course going into the second half with Prof. Rolle. Palmtag has a review game the last class before the test for 1-2pts on the exam. If you get a chance to take Palmtag, TAKE HIM!!!
Palmtag is not a bad professor. However, it's really hard to keep track of what he's talking about/defining in class. I find his tests to be rather difficult, but he makes it easy to ask questions. His Bio 2 class is 95% based on your test grades, so if you fail one, good luck.
Best professor I've had. Explains material extremely well. Bio isn't an easy class but he use good analogies and overall makes things easy to understand and apply. He's clearly passionate about his work, but is relaxed and easy to follow. He's happy to answer questions and is very helpful at office hours. 10/10 would recommend.
Words can not describe how terrible this class is. I understand Biology 2 is hard but this was absolutely ridiculous. Even if you put all your time and effort into studying for this class you'll likely get a D. Palmtag might be good for Bio 1 but horrible for Bio 2. Never failed a class until this guy. Take anyone else you can trust me
I get that some people just don't understand Bio, but I think Plamtag is your best shot. He's super chill and has clear lectures. His tests are a bit on the tough side but I think he's overall really good.
Cool Beard. Great guy. Office hours are a MUST explains everything in detail. Get ready to read the chapter before class and preview the slides this is college kids. Easy class, great guy. Very approachable. Loved him.
This was his first semester teaching Bio 2 at FGCU, and for his first time adjusting he was considerate and a good teacher. Yes, it was just a couple of tests and attendance quizzes that are your grade. He is working on this. Overall, a great guy and by far superior to the other Bio 2 teachers. Truly, you should take him. Nice guy/ lectures clear
I absolutely love Palmtag, I have always had a hard time with Biology and he is an amazing professor, really helped me learn the information well. His lectures are not that boring compared to other bio professors. All around would recommend.
Your grade in the class will only be based on a few tests and pop attendance quizzes. So come to class! Lectures are definitely a bit heavy and can be dry, but he usually delivers them well. He's easy to get in touch with outside of class, and he was accommodating when I was late for a test/had to make one up. 10/10 recommend.
Matt Palmtag is easily my favorite professor ever. I was told this was going to be my hardest class, but Palmtag made it really enjoyable. Most of your grade will be based on a few exams, but through the lectures, labs, and his willingness to work with each student individually, the material isn't as bad as it seems. 10/10 would recommend.
Tough tests. Make sure to study. Reads off powerpoints. Make sure to do the Lab Activities and Daily Activities. Responds to emails quickly and cares for you. Awesome guy
Best biology professor at FGCU for sure. Took him for Bio 1 now taking him again for Bio 2!
Great Bio teacher. He is one that truly cares about the success of his students and will take the necessary steps to ensure his students succeed in his course. Took him for Bio 1 and 2. :)
Professor Palmtag is one of the greatest biology teachers I've had. In a 3-4 hour long bio class, the material is prone to becoming boring, but he tries to make it exciting (his enthusiasm helps!). Willing to repeat anything he says throughout the lecture and answer any questions in a truthful and helpful manner. Studying early is recommended.
Professor Palmtag is a great professor. He tries to be engaging and makes his lectures interesting. His PowerPoints are super helpful and his exams are solely based on them and not labs. You need to work for an A but it's not terrible. I would give him a 3.5 on the difficulty scale. He's always willing to help and wants to know how HE can help you.
Professor Palmtag describes things ok, however the course is test heavy and Palmtag's tests are pretty difficult. Averages on tests are in the 70s. If you need help I highly recommend office hours. Howvever, skip one day you'll miss a lot, most likely causing an F on a test
A great professor. Took him for both bio 1 and 2. He does good lectures and will answer any questions. Very laid back but your grade is mainly based on tests. He has study guides and practice tests.
Truly the best Biology professor at FGCU, in my opinion. You could tell that he truly cared about his students and whether they understood the information. Just study your ass off because his grade is based heavily on four exams and one final.
Palmtag was the best professor I've ever had. Biology is a hard subject and almost everyone struggles with it. He makes the class interesting, and he tries to make the information as easy to understand as possible. I would recommend him to anyone.
probably the best bio professor you could take. He explains everything clearly and his tests aren't that difficult
He was a great professor who knew what he was talking about. He is tough but if you focus and take time to study weekly you can easily pass the class.
He's very nice and he shows that he truly cares about his students. If you take him, make sure to write down EVERYTHING he writes on the board!!! It'll help you in the long run! Exams are difficult, but if you study you should be fine. Do not study last minute --- won't help at all. Also, you won't be using your biology textbook.
Awesome Professor, gives a few breaks to make the 3 hour lectures not as bad. Tests are long but honestly not that bad, and doesn't give any HW besides post-lab quizzes, usually 1 per week. If you show up and do the work you'll pass, and if you've taken Bio in high school you'll prob get an A or B. BY FAR your best option if you need to take Bio 1.
Amazing Professor! If you're dedicated you will do great in this course. Palmtag will contributes to your success in bio! He provides you with all the tools to do great in the course and is so well organized. This course has made me love biology
You HAVE to read the book AND take notes to pass. Most students think they can get by with just notes. His lectures are pretty clear and you can always ask during class to clarify topics. He has labs almost every class. So you have to make sure to attend. You can rely on him to follow the syllabus dates and such listed. Pretty pleasant teacher.
Palmtag is the best professor you can take for bio. His lectures are very descriptive and as long as you pay attention you shouldn't have trouble. What will earn you an A is if you take advantage of his study guides and read the book/ study yourself. As long as you put in the effort, this is an awesome class. He explains topics in a helpful way.
Professor Palmtag is probably the best choice for BIO1010C at FGCU! He is wonderful at explaining concepts. His daily activities really aid in making sure that you are understanding the material being covered. He is very caring and it is clear his heart is in his teaching and that he does his best to help his students pass! 10/10
Monotone, no attempt to keep interest until the last few chapters. He himself seems bored most of the time. I find the way he writes and phrases his questions to be unclear and jumbled very often; hard to know what he is asking exactly. He is a big fan of giving 4 correct multiple choice questions but wanting you to pick the "best right" one.
Its a hard class and lecture by itself does not prepare you for exams. The study guides help but wording on the exams is really confusing. It does not seem like he cares about students at all, but it is a huge class. Just study a lot and read the book. Lab helps
Professor Palmtag is a strict, but good professor. I studied an insane amount, went to tutoring, and attended SI as well. However, I did get an A. Taking notes is extremely important because his exams are based off of his lectures.
I'm currently in his hybrid bio class and I don't recommend it. If you're going to take him, take his regular 2 day a week class. If you don't read the book or genuinely study, you will not make a good grade. He is nice and he seems to care from my point of view. I really also only recommend this class if you are a science major, it's difficult.
Professor Palmtag really cares about his students and seeing them pass. Attendance is mandatory because his lectures are the exams, if you don't go to class and take good notes you won't pass. He is generous when grading and always encourages SI and office hours. Says book is mandatory however, I didn't look at it once, just went off lectures.
This class had a lot of fascinating aspects and wasn't too easy or too difficult. Prof. Palmtag made it very enjoyable as well!
ended his Bio 2 with 103%. I missed 1 test question entire semester. Read book and take fast class notes class (notes written on his printed slides). Then, take info from the book & your notes & put them on BIG sheets of paper & tape to your dorm room wall. He hints this. Memorize everthing on sheetsuntil you can repeat everything with eyes closed.
I had to drop Bio 1 because this professor wasn't very clear about anything. He was chill but just can't teach to a lower level very well. I would suggest taking with a different professor if you are terrible at science!
Very good professor, also a nice guy. He clearly outlines what material will be on the exam. Go to SI as frequently as possible and an A is achievable.
Professor Palmtag was by far my favorite professor I have ever had for a college class. I had him during the Covid-19 situation and he was VERY understanding and did a great job communicating to his students and giving the proper information needed to pass his class. Can not go wrong taking his class. I hope I can have him again for another class!!
Palmtag was a good professor but I wouldn't have passed if it wasn't for SI. Taking the lecture notes before class helped me to be able to pay attention better. His class isn't too hard to do good in as long as you study and attend SI.
Mr. Palmtag is a good professor, you do have to study for his tests which are a big chunk of the grade. He does have some assignments throughout the week but they are not hard at all. Every Friday he has a zoom meeting that goes over the study guide for the chapter and he can answer any questions you may have. He does record them as well.
Due to COVID-19, most of our lectures and assignments were online. However, Palmtag has not adjusted to it very well. There are over 4-5 lecture videos for every chapter and you're forced to watch them all in order to have a chance of passing. His class is solely for those who are biology majors. I recommend taking a different professor.
i would not recommend this professor if you struggle with biology/ exams to begin with. His exams are a huge portion of your grades and the exam questions rarely correlate to anything he said in the lectures. The study guides are not even related to the actual exam questions. If at all possible , pick a different professor.
This professor quite literally made no sense with anything when it comes to virtual learning. His chapter study guides and HOURS of long boring footage of him lecturing do not correlate to the exams at all, which are by the way a huge majority of the grade. Even reading the textbook, I don't get where he is finding the info he puts on tests
If you don't show up you won't pass, and if you can't read at least 50 pages worth of bio for one chapter you won't pass. There are quizzes twice a week after lab, easy-ish. He has the most boring voice ever he's lectures are technically not required to watch but they don't matter for the test anyways bc everything comes out of the book. Don't take
I would take him for every class if possible. Idk how he has bad reviews. He is literally so good at explaining everything and will answer any questions. I got 89, 80, 88, 90 on the unit exams and a 92 on the final. He even provides study guides for the exams. Weekly assignments are easy. Just be aware the first half is harder than the second half
I would completely take him again and as a professor for all of my courses. He explains everything and never rushes through material. I wish I had him in person because he's lectures would've been even better. He has study guides for review and has very little assignments overall (but they're mostly easy).
100% would take him again & again & again. No offense but anyone who gave him a bad review didn't take the time and do the work for this class. Professor Palmtag is AWESOME !!! He really wants his students to do well, even with this class being online due to COVID. He is prompt in emails and gives you good lectures. Bio 2 is hard so you will study
Great professor!
You need to go to every class or you will miss at least 2 assignments and get a zero. The exams are weighted so much it seems almost useless to do any other work. The unit 4 exam might have been the hardest tests I have ever taken. This class made me switch my major so you need to be really smart and dedicated to be able to do good in this class.
I loved his class, professor Palmtag is a great teacher. His lectures are very interesting. He is easy to reach if you have questions and always tries his best to explain new concepts. Bio 2 is very complex, many new words and concepts, make sure you take good notes!.
Professor Palmtag is a really great guy and he really tries to make sure you understand the course material. He's always willing to repeat anything if needed. A majority of the grade is focused on exams, but they weren't too hard as long as you put in the work. The labs for this course were super easy.
I took him for a Summer B course and it was very straightforward. 8 weeks for a semesters worth of bio 1 material is a lot for a short time so, the fact that he was able to condense it to be somewhat manageable is amazing. All the grades are tests/quizzes but he didn’t use lockdown browser for any of them and they were all open book
Professor Palmtag is great at what he does. I love his lectures. Whenever I did not understand something during class, I would go to his office hours, and he would make sure I understood everything.
Great professor! His exams are on everything he talks about in class, make sure you take good notes. He repeats terms if needed, and you can tell that he cares about our test scores. Put in the work and you will see results! The only down side is the exams can move your grade drastically. Take him!
It was a fun class. PowerPoints are interesting and he always makes time to answer students' questions. Go to his lectures; just going over the slides is never enough. Use his study tactics and do not procrastinate. Don't be afraid to go to his office during hours and ask questions. The tests are not very hard if you actually try.
Took him for Bio2 lecture then Bio1w/lab. I know a couple of people got pretty bored during his lectures but that's understandable because this content is HARD & the class is LONG. If you don't listen & take good notes you won't pass. I personally enjoyed his class & would take him again. Bio2- graded by few things. Bio1- lots of different grades.
I took biology with Professor Palmtag in a six-week, summer course format and although all of the information was very condensed, getting an A within the class is definitely attainable. The videos he has made for each section are very easy to follow along with and he provides plenty of extra material for you to sharpen your understanding further.
Great professor, just make sure you pay attention and show up for class. Will help if you ask for it outside of class.
Prof. Palmtag is one of the best science professors I've had here. He is very passionate about what he teaches and is willing to help you with anything. He is very accommodating and is very approachable. I had a family emergency in the middle of the semester and he was very understanding of it. The lectures are a little packed, but i 100% recommend
I took this class online and it was set up so well. The tests were difficult, but there's so many resources that Palmtag provides to help you get an A. He's really understanding and he always curves or lets the class retake exams if we don't do so well. Just watch his lectures, take good notes, and go to office hours and you'll get an A easy peasy.
the only reason i got a bad grade was because of my terrible work ethic. honestly, palmtag is one of the most accommodating, passionate, and caring professors i've ever had. he will go out of his way to help you no matter what. part of me wishes i took him in person rather than online because he is just so amazing. not enough good things to say.
Best professor I've ever had. Taken him for Bio 1 & 2 and I've yet to find a professor as passionate and inspiring. Solid semester structure and relevant material. All resources are handed to you on a platter, just pay attention and you'll pass.
I took this class online and during the summer so all the material was very tightly packed. But he provides ample support throughout the course. He has lecture videos and slide presentations. Along with assignments to better understand the materials. He is a great professor and explains the materials in very simple terms.
Great professor, Bio 2 is hard because of the amount of info you need to learn but he tries to make it easy. Curves exams anywhere from 6+ points, lectures are straight from textbook. Mainly graded by quizzes and tests. Quizzes online, have multiple tries. Has study guides pre-made, very similar to the exams (use them!). Final exam super easy.
great class and professor. easy to understand and willing to ensure you learn the material. tests are NOT easy, but not tricky or time-consuming. textbook helps a LOT with the biochem part of the course. get it and read it and you will do fine on the tests. big group final project, but a lenient grader on them.
Tests are difficult but classwork is easy. You have to watch the lectures to do well. He answers emails quickly.
Fantastic professor! He is super accessible and cares about learning, but you will need to memorize a lot for his exams, so be ready for that. I remember studying two days straight to remember a specific phylogenic tree, so it is not an easy class, but his PowerPoints really help, so just focus on understanding and memorizing!
don't expect a class like this to be easy; Palmtag is the best tho; lectures are amazing; 4 exams+1 final; last day of class literally he has final exam in his hand and goes over whole thing. Short weekly quizzes that are basically free points to help grade. Take him, one of the best. made me love bio. Exams are straight foreward, just pay attention
Palmtag is a great professor! There are 4 test, 1 final. If you are struggling go to his office hours for help! His tests are not easy typically consist of questions with four right answers; you have to pick the best one. Weekly assignments online. You will learn from his lectures! He was very accommodating when I had a family emergency as well.
The course of Bio II is hard and the PowerPoint didn't help much. His study guides also don't help. A weekly assignment 4 quizzes and 5 exams make up your whole grade with the exams being worth the most and difficult. Just poorly worded. He is super nice and curves mostly all exams. The first half is harder than second. Go to office hours they help
Prof. Palmtag's Bio II course is challenging but rewarding. His engaging lectures and helpful study tools, like Unstuckstudy, make it manageable. Stay on top of the material and you'll do well.
This professor is good but his PowerPoints are incomplete. You are grading by a few things and one bad exam grade can kill you. Also his exam questions can be very confusing and the format is weird.
Professor Palmtag was great! He's very knowledgeable about all things Bio. The class is a LOT of material and very test heavy. But, if you are able to know the PowerPoint material and apply it on the exams you will be just fine. Weekly online assignments every week and quizzes with two tries but other than that not much outside work.
He explains things great and cares about your success. His exams are tricky but you if you study you will be fine. The first test is the hardest so if you get a low grade you can make a comeback. There's also a group project so if you're a bad test taker you can improve your grade that way. He's very passionate about his job
Very lecture-heavy and lots of homework, but great course and you're given all the tools you need to succeed.
There are around 4-5 tests in the entire course. His lectures are entertaining and easy to follow. He provides PowerPoint and study guides. In this class, we also had an aide who did weekly lecture recaps. Apart from the test the only other assignment there is is weekly assignments (1 online quiz) so study for the tests
His tests are SUPER heavily graded so you have to make sure you do good on them, or it drops your grade like crazy. Also had a lot of assignments that barely raised your grade, which was annoying. He provides you with presentations but they don't help at all with tests or assignments. Personally would not take again
This was the most time consuming class I have taken in summer/online. He assigns at LEAST 8 assignments per week (All due thursday). He said that this class would be like a full time job and it is! I start to watch his lectures and begin his assignments at 9 am and finish around 3 to 4 pm. (5 - 6 video lectures per chapter, 3 chapters per week).
No extra credit. Lecture heavy. Often confuses what he is saying. Lecture videos are from 2019, have horrible quality. Be prepared to teach yourself and research on your own. Study guides aren't helpful, tests focus on minimal details of the topics. assignments are barely weighted where you can get 100s and they will not affect your grade.
Responds to emails quickly and seems nice, but there were two separate instances where I had to email him because the quiz answers he marked as correct were actually wrong. Make sure to dedicate a lot of time to this class because exams are 60% of the grade. You can definitely get an A if you try, though
Palmtag responds to emails very quickly and almost always accommodates if something bad comes up. He let me extend a test due date one time because I had the flu which was very nice of him. The TA was the main problem because he was an intense grader. You will need to dedicate a lot of time to this class especially if biology isn't your strong suit
best biology teacher at FGCU. Attendance not mandatory, clearly loves what he does, and cares about his students. It's easy to do well in his class if you care enough
