he's an awesome teacher, very easy going and a cool guy. Class is easly enough to get an A or B, just make sure you go to lab, thats where it gets tricky.

relatively easy if you study the study guides. he does try to make the tests as easy as possible. he's very nice and tries not to be too boring, but its biology so unless your a bio major it probably isn't that interesting. but he is definitely not hot

Matt was really helpful when it was exam time. Told us what was on the exam and what to study for. Always very interested in what he was talking about, you can tell he enjoys what he does. I would recommend him for any Bio, great teacher and good looking:)

Matt is a great guy. He knows a lot about marine biology, and obviously loves the subject. I would like to take another Bio class with him. He understands that not everyone in a 100 level biology class is there to be a scientist, and is able to keep the class very interesting. He also is a very funny guy.

This class isn't bad, but you can't really fall behind because it is kind of hard to get back on track. Also you have a lab, which if you don't pass that you cannot pass the class, so it is hard to keep up in both of those classes, especially since we have two different teachers and two different teaching styles.
Matt seems like a good teacher, but he's not very helpful. He speeds through notes, and doesn't offer any time for questions. I studied once for 4 hours for his test and got a low C, asked him for help and he just told me to look over my test...Don't take with Partin..

I have to say, science is not my best subject, and matt partin knows that for many kids it is hard. He always trys to make class interesting. While most students found tests to be easy, i thought they were rather difficult, but he is an all around good guy and good prof. he's also not to bad to look at for 50 minutes.

this class was pretty okay and very easy. you have to go to class only because he takes attendence via clickers. my only complaint is that he goes through the lecture notes waaaayyyy to slow.. other than that he's a nice guy and its an easy A for a gen ed class
There were a lot of concepts that I had some trouble with, but that might be because I decided to take a BIOL 104 class instead of a 101 class. Matthew seemed to know a lot about this subject. I had him in a big lecture room, so the lectures would get fairly boring some times.
Matt was a really good professor. His class was interesting. If you study for the exams, they are pretty easy.

Dr. Partin was one of the best Professors I've ever had. He made the content fun and interesting. I wish all Professors were as professional and passionate as he is. May he continue to teach as many students as possible because learning from an expert like him makes school much more fascinating. I hope he pilots a doctorate program.
Great professor! He definitely knows what he's talking about, and has an obvious passion for it. Definitely recommend to everyone. Tests are a bit difficult, but not unmanageable. If you study the notes well, they wont be a problem. Easy note structure and some of his lectures were online, voice and all. A+ professor!

Dr. Partin is definitely one of the best teachers I've had at BGSU. He is very passionate about the subject and his lectures are dynamic and interesting. The tests are something you have to study for, but if you took the notes or got online and listened to the lectures you can hack it. I highly recommend this professor.
Great professor, but can sometimes go extremely fast through notes. However, you get an outline of the notes with fill-ins, so it's not too bad.
He seems easy but he just reads the notes off a powerpoint and you fill in the blank. The exams are extremely hard, I study 20-27 hours and haven't got above a C on an exam. He doesn't really want to help you either, when you ask for help he basically says study harder.
TAKE THIS CLASS! An easy and entertaining BG Perspective. Matt is passionate about this class and is one of the most laid back teachers I've ever met. He loves to joke and show funny videos. All you do is print off(or type in)the notes and study them. I go to class maybe twice a week and I have an A. His exams are straight from the notes. Take it!
Really cool guy! He is really passionate about the subject. The first half of the class is extremely boring and the tests were really hard. Overall, take the class if you need a science course because it's a good class as far as Science courses go.
Matt is honestly one of the best professors that I have had for a science course at BGSU. He keeps the class interested, and will do as much as he can to help a student in need. If you have the opportunity to take his BIOL 1080 course for a perspective, then by all means, do!
He is horrible with grades! He didn't put in any grades until the last week of classes and is currently a week late with giving us our final grade for the class! Also his exams are over absolutely none of the material he covers in class and are extremely difficult! He also does not return emails.
Great professor, very easy to understand and the tests are easy as long as you study. The notes he has you print off for class are fill-in-the-blank and the lectures are on Canvas, however the notes are short phrases that don't make much sense unless elaborated upon, so attendance is important.
Matthew was not exactly one of my favorite professors. I found it very, very strange that he didn't email the class or post any type of announcementsclass discussions over the course of the entire semester. I even emailed him once and did not get a response. Overall, he didn't keep in touch with his students and just read off of his slides.
He is the worst teacher i have ever had. He does not answer emails in a timely manner and sometimes he doesn't even answer them at all. In addition he also doesn't give great feed back when it comes to tests or assignments.
Im a marine bio major and he is one of the advisors. He's super cool and as long as you turn in all the assignments your going to get an A. Everyone in the major knows it takes him forever to respond to emails, the best way to reach him is to stop by his office.
Doesn't give any day to day assignments, but the tests are kinda difficult. But if you have the textbook and good notes you'll be fine. Never got under a ninty on them. There is an exam once a week after the first week. (For summer session)
He is a nice guy and the class is easy. Attendance is required and sometimes he will have you take quizzes just get attendance points. Barely used the book, just go off of the slides.
His tests are pretty hard, however most of the material he reviews in class is online. But that does not mean you can skip class and go online to learn. He talks about extra material not discussed on his online material, which are apparent in his tests. Good teacher but hard tests. (Summer course)
By far the worst class I have ever taken and I am a junior. Lectures are super boring and impossible to pay attention to. He takes FOREVER to grade any assignments. Exams are online so once you answer a question you can't go back to change your answer. Very boring, not sure how someone can make marine biology uninteresting but Partin did.
Dr. Partin is a nice guy really, but very disorganized. For a 1-credit class that meets once a week he assigns 3+ assignments for each week. None of which were graded until the end of the semester. No real structure to the course.

This man is a fraud. He claims he uses his notes to write exam questions but he most certainly does not write his own questions. I would strongly urge students to read the textbook for clarity when studying. He also hides the exam answers online so we can't see what we got wrong, which I find suspicious. What are you hiding, Matthew Partin?
He requires two books both books need a summary of each chapter. One of the books you will receive the summary's in class. He does not mind when work is turned in as long as it is turned in by finals week. This is one of the easiest classes to pas as long as you go and do the work you should be fine!
Lectures make up every class, but all of them are posted online, he does not use the book in class, but if you want a higher grade on the exams I recommend you read. He gives a lot extra credit and curves all of the tests. 10/10 highly reccommend
Matthew Partin is, by far, the best professor I've had at BG. He is kind, charming, and interesting. His lectures are intriguing and not mandatory attendance. He posts all the lectures on Canvas and draws from them for his exams. If you need a natural science BGP, take Life in the Sea with him. Great guy and great professor.
He is a good professor. I took him for life in the sea in the summer. Tests are almost exactly what you would expect and he is generous with curving and offering extra credit. He is very relaxed and approachable and wanted students to do well in his class. This is a good class to take for as a BGP. Most people did well as long as they put effort in
I am currently taking the Marine Biology class. Although Mathew is a really chill proffesor, his first exam was very very Difficult. The average grade on the exam was somewhere in between 50% and 60%. He said to study the notes, but the exam had nothing to do with the notes! Does not respond to emails when you have questions either.
I am currently taking his Marine Biology class and he is all around a very chill guy. He puts the lectures online, so you don't have to go to class, but I think it is still helpful to go. Tests aren't too bad either.
I never once read the book for this class even though I would highly reccomend doing so. I also never went to class since attendance was never taken, and from what I've heard from other students it didn't matter if you did because exams were so difficult. He also gave out a lot of work outside of class that was due at the end of the semester.
I haven't been to class in a while and it doesn't matter. Absolutely everything is online. Notes, tests, quizzes, reading assignments, etc. Everything, besides tests, are due at the end of the semester. Tests are pretty though though if you don't know the material. I haven't touched the book once, but i'm sure it'll be helpful for tests.
He gives out a few assignments. All assignments aren't due until the end of the semester. Exams are online and he gives you a week to complete them. He gives you fill-in-the-blank notes to go along with the lectures. He posts EVERYTHING online. Attendance is not a factor at all.
Very melancholic way of giving a lecture. Doesnt engage students well. If you dont understand the content of class coming in to the class work hard and study the notes a lot.
He is extremely unorganized. All he does is lecture and his LAs do the rest of the work. All of the lectures are online, so there is no point in going to class. Tests are kind of hard.
Tests are hard. Only some assignments that are for low points so your grade reflects your test scores. The tests are online using lockdown browser with webcam. Luckily he gives extra credit opportunities which is nice. You need to study hard for tests. You dont have to go to class, he posts everything online with voiceover too.
The class itself was laid back and interesting, but Partin does not put in any effort to help someone learn. He is very unorganized, repetitive, and boring. His notes/practice q's don't always reflect the tests, which is why they're hard. He also doesn't respond to emails, or provide office hours. The HW is due at the end of the year however.
Dr. Partin overall was a fine professor. The only issues I had was that the lectures were boring and there were a few things I, personally, didn't like about the exams. The exams were online (it made me nervous that people would cheat) and some of the questions on the exams weren't covered in lecture, book, or on the study guides he didn't mention
Don't take this class unless you're really into biology. I took this thinking that we would just talk about sea creatures, however, it's a pretty biology heavy course. I think this class is way too in-depth for a 1000 level class. If you show up to every lecture and take decent notes, you'll have at least a B.
A majority of the class can be done online, he gives a lot of assignments but hes grades on participation of the assignments not if hey are actually correct. By not doing the assignments your grade will be brought down significantly
Everything is online. Notes are fill in the blank. Exams are online. He's redundant and lectures on the same thing at least twice a week. Never had office hours on the syllabus. He does give a lot of extra credit to make up for the questions on the exam that weren't covered in class or in the textbook. Wish I took it w/ someone else.
This was easily one of the worst classes I have ever taken here at BGSU. Mr. Partin is very nice, however he is simply a bad teacher. The notes are extremely vague, and then come test time the exam is super specific. Definitely harder than it should be considering it is an entry level course. Do not take this class, it blows.
Overall he is a great person, but not exactly the best professor. His notes are all pre-made but they are fill in the blank so going to class is necessary. Quizzes are online and take as many times as you want to get the best grade. Exams are based on his notes and are easy only if you actually study hard.

Honestly I rarely felt like Partin cared if we learned the material or not. Constantly shows up late, didnt respond to a single email, & was all over the place. Not too much work but you never know what you're supposed to be doing. Exams don't cover anything he discusses in class. Find someone better please I'm begging you don't take it.
Dr. Partin is clearly very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject, but the class was uninteresting much of the time. The exams can be very stressful and they make up majority of your grade. Although I appreciate the material and Dr. Partin's effort, the class set up is not well done at all.
Partin was usually not able to be reached outside of class. He did not respond to multiple emails and did not provide his office hours. The tests were not like the lectures and required lots of studying outside of the classroom. He also did not grade any of the assignments until the very last day before grades were due.
Dr. Partin is such a nice professor who cares a lot about his class. He posts lectures with him explainning on canvas, offers extra credit, and occasionally has a kahoot. Down side is that the content is super dry/ boring and no one bothers to learn it. I think he does the most he can for the topic.
You have to take five exams, all of which on lockdown brower with camera, as well as about 15 quizes. Hardest class I've taken. He does however offer lots of extra credit. Just dont take the class.
During exam week, scheduled two mini projects, had to take 6 BGP quizzes, an article worksheet, and the final. All exams are lockdown with a camera, tons of quizzes and work the whole semester. Just pay attention and do all the extra credit you can. I'll drop out before I take him again.
Good luck trying to get ahold of him via email. Had to email him like 20 times before I get the response "see me after class". Not to mention he showed up late, gave us tons of quizzes and exams, and made exam week terrible. Stay away!

Literally the worst professor I have ever had. The exams are nothing like the study guides and you were being watched on camera while you took them. I didnt learn a thing in his class and he doesnt know how to respond to peoples emails. Avoid taking this class with him at all cost, its not worth it.
This class was probably the worst class I had on my schedule, tests were nothing like the notes from lecture or any assignments we did. I studied my notes for each exam and still ended up failing them. Good luck if you take this class, it seems easy but it's insanely confusing especially the pointless assignments & unorganized class in general.
Partin is a nice dude, knowledgeable on the subject. Doesn't really seem to care about the class too much, lectures are pretty unorganized, material will put you to sleep. Not looking forward to exams
Do not take this class with him! I took Life in The Sea and it is awful! The exams are ridiculously hard, only 50 questions and all multiple choice, but the notes don't even help you. For an entry level class, this is ridiculous. I got a 72% on my first exam and an 84% on the next, only bc I found an quizlet with some of the answers. THIS SUCKS!!!!
I took this class for a BGP requirement and it was recommended (a friend had Neves in fall). PICK A CLASS BASED ON THE PROFESSOR NOT TIME! If you aren't good at taking tests you will struggle. You are graded 95% on tests. The slides and videos reflect the tests so you're on your own. Class is decent but go with Neves or take with a friend to study.
Prof. Partin was really helpful and accessible for communication when I had Qs at the beginning of the semester. The exams are literally straight from the notes, just study your notes and you'll do good. He offers a few sources of extra credit and provides exam curves for every exam. Just watch the lectures and study your notes and you'll get an A.
I was a marine biology major and a marine lab coordinator under Matt Partin. His classes are rather dull, but I think hes uncomfortable with lecturing. He also seems to be uncomfortable with leadership. He tends to take a back seat and let the students run things in the lab, and that can (and did) lead to some hurtful situations. Disappointed.
Dr. Partin is a nice guy but so boring. The lectures will put you to sleep. But he's nice and the exams aren't too hard and he gives extra credit.
professor partin is a very nice person. his lectures are super boring, but thats college its going to happen. he always emails back. also, he is very understanding, which is very respectable, and a pretty easy grader! some exams were tough, but not impossible!
Mr. Partin isnt a bad professor he tries to keep lectures interesting. When studying for his tests he gives out a study guide of concepts he wants you to know but thats not what is actually on the test. Class was kinda interesting thought.

Any professor that required us to download and use Lockdown Browser is an instant no from me. The guy actually relies on technology TOO much, in my opinion. He has you buy some 30 dollar program that just for him to ask questions that the class responds to en masse. One day with bad internet and the whole class will come to a complete stop.
Making us do both a quiz and a lockdown browser exam on SUNDAYS is objectively insane. Come on, man.
Partin is coordinator of the BGSU Marine Lab, father of a bajillion kids, and participator in a lot of stuff. Basically, the man's busy. A lot. For someone not in the Marine Bio program, you may not appreciate his laid back, occasionally distant nature, but get to know him and he's awesome. Plus, he looks like Obi-Wan Kenobi, so, bonus.
Professor Partin is very passionate about Marine Biology and it is very obvious during lectures. His exams are Lockdown Browser and take up the majority of the grade, there are 5 exams per semester. Outside of the exams there is not much homework for the course. The lectures are accessible through Zoom and you participate through TopHat.
Has zoom link so you don't have to go in person. Uses Top hat which is helpful. Notes don't really help on tests which uses a lockdown browser with mic and camera.
My Favorite Professor!! Dr. Partin is an exceptional teacher who brings energy, expertise, and enthusiasm to every lecture and lab session. As a marine biology professor, they have a unique ability to break down complex scientific concepts into relatable and engaging material, ensuring that every student feels both challenged and supported.
Has a zoom link so you dont have to go in. Notes don't help for the test which is most of the grade. He knows the material that he is teaching but is very dry when lecturing. Uses TopHat to account for attendance. Wants you to buy the text book, doesn't use it in class or for assignments. He just expects you to read it. Easy class for a BGP though.
I took this class for BIO 3700. Dr partin is a very nice guy, his classes are pretty easy. However he is literally to busy to contact out of class. With that due to how busy he is he is already disorganized. His classes have a lot of homework but %80 of which takes 5 minutes to complete. The rest takes 20 minutes at most.
Dr Partin's class was fairly easy. There were quizzes once a week with no exams. All assignments were open-note and straightforward. Lectures were long and could be very boring. But overall, this class was an easy BGP credit
This class is super easy. We used Top Hat which requires a code to sign in for attendance, but you can zoom into class. Lots of class participation which creates a good grade pillow if you just answer the super easy top hat questions. Tons of group assignments, but they're super easy and mostly just completion points. And tons of extra credit.
Attendance is technically required but not necessary since everything is on Canvas and lectures are on Zoom. Assignments are very easy and take about 30 minutes, and doing the minimum earns full credit. There's no need to buy the textbook because a free PDF is available. No tests, quizzes, or exams.
