Very sweet, but hard to understand...He will make time for you if you ask him but overall I had a bad experience..F.Y.I HE IS SUPER HOTT!
Physiology is a challenging subject; Saelzler makes it approachable. You will have to study everyday, but his tests are based exclusively off his powerpoints, so an A is easy to manage. Ask questions as soon as you have them and be engaged in class. Tests are hard, but lab quizzes and AP sections are easy points. You'll get out what you put in.
very frustrating class.. he is not very helpful but if you study enough you will do ok
Just started this class.... so far so good. A little dry and sometimes seems nervous, but tries to make up for it with sarcastic jokes that are actually pretty funny. One thing is for sure though he is a major hottie!!! Sure makes coming to class a little eaiser!
Ok, I would highly recommend a different teacher!! His tests are very hard! He doesnt really explain things on your level. HARD CLASS!
Highly recommend! You Will learn and the tests are very reasonable. Always asks If there are questions and makes himself available
First, he is a MAJOR HOTTIE. Such a nice, laid back guy. Really approachable. Those in my class that were unsuccessful rarely attended class, and never knew what was going on. I worked an average amount and ended up with an A. If you don't mind working hard, and having a nice face to look at during lecture I would take him!
Great teacher! He was very clear, and always answered emails when sent! Was willing to tutor too if you were struggling with the class! He made learning the material easy, and always tested on his material, not the book!I would take this teacher again for bio any day!! Not bad to look at either!
I will highly recommend Mr. Saelzler to any student because of his patience and clarity of the subject matter. Although, his class tend to be a little dry but you will definitely understand and learn in his discussions. He is also very helpful.
Matthew is a good teacher but his knowledge of biology was way over my head! It was a hard for me to understand half of the things he was saying because bio is not my strong point. His tests were pretty hard.you def have to study. Hes a nice dude but hes just way too smart for me and it made the class harder. Also we go through like 20 slides a day
Nice and professional. Class required a large amount of studying outside of the class room. Text book was not used much. Points came from quiz's and tests that were semi difficult. Good attendance is required.
Need this class for nursing, hardest class I have ever taken. Don't take him if you do not have a decent background in Biology. He exams and quizzes are ridiculously hard. He does answer you questions, he expects you to get it and looks at you like come on you should know this. I study all the time.
Doesn't really use the textbooks Very hot teacher Attendance is required If you don't understand something he does make time for you With office hours Lot of study time outside of class quizzes are kind of easy Homework easy exams hard
Amazing Professor!
A great instructor. Heavy use of power point, but posts the ppt online before class to print out. Then you take notes directly on the ppt. Great system. He puts a lot of thought and detail into lectures. So much so that I didn't even open the $200 book. Studied from his notes and got an A. Easy gimme points for homework. Easy to get along with.
Dr. Saelzler is an awesome professor. You have to study quite a bit but he is generous with points and really tries to help his students. He spends a lot of time making lectures and powerpoints for his class and is very thorough with his discussions. Overall, I would highly recommend him as an instructor.
He was a great professor. Extremely helpful and available and will go out of his way to make sure you understand the material. The quizzes are easy but the tests really measure what you know. He words the multiple choice portions in such a way that you had better know what youre talking about. Overall he's a great prof and I recommend him!
He's very helpful and will always offer help outside of class.
He was the best professor I have had at CSCC by far. He doesn't make the course work easy but he will make sure that you understand it completely and is willing to offer so much help outside of class. We have on average 3 study sessions for each exam and he offered office hours and was willing to meet outside those hours too! He is awesome!
One of the only teachers at C State that seems like he likes his job! Very enthusiastic and helpful. He will help you in very way possible, you just have to seek the help. Exams continually get harder as course continues and he even said it the first day of class. You just have to put in your work and he will help get you there! Highly recommended!
Great teacher but requires too much! His tests are half multiple choice and fill in the blanks with No word bank.if you love biology and have all the time in the world to study take him..he also have lab exams and also a group project! Too much work for what it's worth
Great teacher who has a lot of interest for Biology. It's not that hard of a class as long as you are good at taking notes. Would definitely recommend.
Straight outta a Gap ad, Dr. S teaches bio with the finesse & precision of an attractive robot. Materials: don't need the textbook, but should print out the lecture ppts for notes. Posts videos of class. Quizzes easy, tests harder. Some days he seems a bit stand-offish, but he's so invested in his students' success & is available & flexible.
Overall easy class. I personally do well in Bio classes and it was a breeze. He gives you all of the information that you need to succeed and get an A. I didn't buy the textbook and thank goodness for that. Showing up is optional and is still possible to get an A. He is always more than willing to provide help or clarify anything.
veryyy smart, will explain your question until you understand, office hours available, class isnt boring, lab is clear, perfectly divided material among semester, schedule is maintained.
Good guy, just a little awkward. Sometimes he will talk really fast in lectures and its hard to take notes, but he does record them and put them online. Labs are really easy and read through them first to answer questions before the lab. Most the lab questions you wont even need the lab for. Speeds things up.
Dr. Salezler is one of the best professors I've taken at columbus state. He is a highly respected professor in my eyes and I would most definitely love to have him as my professor again. Pay attention, show up to class and do your work and you'll pass. Dr. Salezler is always willing to help and always has an answer to your question.
Don't let me even get started on Mr. Saelzler. Best BIO professor ever. He answers questions well, his class is always fun and theres never a dull moment. Though there are lots of assignments to do, you will mostly get full grade as long as you participate (asides the exams). Co-operate with him and you'll probably get donuts for your final.
Slow at posting grades and his grading scale is weird. For example, our lab exam is worth 38.5 points but only had 15 questions on it plus he didn't fully go over our labs so the exam was quite difficult. Dry lectures and somewhat disorganized power points. He offers to help but can be standoffish. Very difficult to get A even If you study hard!!
Really great professor. If you like bio, you will love this class with him. He lectures in great detail and if you take good notes and learn to listen to how he lectures, he will tell you exactly what is on the exam. He repeats something? Write that ish down. Opp for extra credit and lab/project r easy. Study for the exams, thorough cture based
If youre willing to do the work I recommend this teacher. exams are part short answer/ fill in, which encourages students to actually study which is great if you need to know the material in future classes. Everything hes taught has helped me in Microbiology and Physiology so far. Dont take him if youre looking to just skim by with an easy A.
Saelzler is a great Bio teacher. I personally do not like Biology, but the way he taught made it possible for me to get a good grade in his class. He clearly outlines everything you have to do and study for exams and quizzes.
Makes it clear what is going to be on exams and provides you with all the information you need to get a good grade in the class but you still need to put in the work to understand the material.
Solid teacher. Take good notes and you'll be fine. He's somewhat rough when it comes to grading short answers on test. All notes are on power points so coming to class is up to you.
Professor Saelzler is a great choice for Bio 1113. If he taught 1114 I would have definitely chosen him again. His course is structured well. He has a plethora of study material available. He usually covers a concept with the power point, notes and study guide available. My only CON was the group project.
an amazing professor. VERY helpful. super clear lectures. study guides provided. labs are always fun. tests are a bit difficult but nothing I would not expect. no complaints at all.
Very clear on grading criteria. My favorite part about his class was that he gave us so many sources to use to learn the material outside of lecture. Notes, quizlets, online PowerPoints, labs, and in-class lectures taught all of the material. You would honestly have to do nothing at all in order to not do well in his class.
If you truly participate in labs and lecture, he makes doing well in the class not only fun, but easy. However, get ready for memorizing note cards before exams and taking the lead in lab groups. The lab structure is very laissez-faire and success is dependent upon the group's own effort entirely.
Overall, he was ok but I wouldn't take him again. He lectures the entire class time every meeting which made the class super boring. He's also a touch grader, especially on extended response questions in the exams. He was a bit awkward so it was kind of hard to communicate with him and ask questions.
Professor Saelzler is an amazing teacher. He responds to emails right away and gives good feedback. You can tell he wants all his students to pass. But his test are heavy there are three parts multiple choice, fill in the blank and short response. He will give you study make sure you us them and you'll do just fine in this class.
Take him! He is incredibly caring, gives you lots of opportunities for points, answers questions, offers review sessions, accessible, has in-class participation/assignments, homework, quizzes and exams. It's challenging material but he makes it easier to understand by using videos/group assignments/lectures/examples. One of the best I have taken.
Decent professor, but his lectures can be a bit dry and hard to follow if biology isn't your strong suit. He did give small breaks during class, which was nice. Sometimes did small group projects for classwork. Unfortunately, he never responded to my emails after classes moved online. I'd take him again if the class was in-person.
Matthew is amazing & though there's a lot of homework but its so helpful. I'm no good at bio but I did well in his class and he actually got me interested in it. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! He cares so much about how you do in his class but if you don't put in the effort what can he do? If he sees you trying he WILL help. He's a down to earth angel!
Professor Saelzler is one of the best professors I have had at Columbus State. There is a lot of information in this course, but if you utilize all the resources given, go to his office hours, and make an effort in his class, you will succeed. The course is structured in a way that if you do not do well, it is your own fault. 10/10 recommend!!
I had heard good things about Saelzler so i signed up for his class in the summer. His labs are pretty easy where he gives you credit just for turning them in, same goes for the homework. However when it comes to exams, the short answer questions are sometimes beyond what he gives in the powerpoints.
He provided in-class activities, quizlets, and study guides to help students learn and understand the material, but the exams were different from the study materials and the questions can be difficult to understand. He will answer any question you have and he seems to enjoy teaching, and had office hours where you could talk to him in collaborate.
He is great at giving feedback and encourages you to meet with him outside class. The short answer sections on his exams can be tough and figuring the answer isn't always straight-forward, so studying and being well-prepared is a must. Don't expect a single all-night study session to get you through his exams.
This class was definitely a challenge at first. However, attending office hours and completing the study guides helped a lot with the material. I would encourage anyone taking him to create a weekly study plan for the material. Also, the written response sections of the exams were difficult and require extra thought.
I've never gone through a class with such a huge workload, all the work you do you'll get 100% as long as you do it, but it is so time-consuming will take up to 15 hours a week. His exams is where I drew the line and wanted to drop the class so bad, they are 45 questions and you have 45 minutes. he is also very rude. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
I had Professor Saelzler this past summer. He required students to be on Collaborate 90% of the time and participate in his lectures. He wanted students to use a lot of outside of class time to learn the different learning units. He's a nice guy, his exams are tough. Do NOT work on notes and in-class activities at the last minute.
This summer was brutal. His homework really does take 15hrs+ a week. His tests are incredibly hard and the questions can be deceiving. A lot of the material on the tests is much more in depth than what he covers in lecture. You need to live and breathe this material to do well. I felt too intimidated to ask questions outside of class.
very awkward person but you could tell he cares about his students and really want them to learn. makes biology really easy to understand definitely recommend taking his class.
Class mostly determined by class participation and quiz grade. Very fun and enjoyable class very chill and fun professor.
He is sarcastic in a funny way and playful. He helps when needed. Also, you can bother him during office hours. for the class, you will have guided notes, quizzes, and unit tests but he gives you flashcards via quizlet. overall its an easy A
An amazing professor who made sure you understood the material. Of course this class will be hard but he provides you with all the material you need like flashcards and lecture notes so its up to you to study on your own time. He was also really fun and understanding. If you finish all your work on time and show up to class you should be good!
I love Matthew! I took this course blended so just in person lab. I wish I could have taken it full in person. Matthew really cares about getting to know his students and wants everyone to succeed. The class is a lot of information but he provides plenty of ways to improve your grade and even provides with quizlets to study. 10/10 recommend!
I took Saelzlers blended 1113 and it was a great course! His course is set up very organized and he is an easy going, funny professor. His exams are very close to the material he provides to study with. Studying is very important for this class. I would definitely recommend, its a great course.
Matthew is by far the BEST professor I have ever had...NO exaggeration. He not only provides numerous attempts for extra credit, but his "flipped classroom" has truly changed the way I learn. He is truly a hoot and I enjoyed coming to class every. single. day. As long as you watch the lectures and come to class, you will understand the topics!
organized class, offers extra credit, easy to understand lectures and provides many resources for success. engaging labs and guided notes for homework.
Dr. Saelzler was one of the best professors I've had so far. He's caring and gives you every opportunity to do well. You will need to do all the work to be successful in his class but that's what college is about, isn't it? Take advantage of extra credit and office hours. He's a fun guy and class was enjoyable.
I dropped this course. What is called guided note crosses a line. It is almost like coping an entire book with hand because you are not allowed to use technology. We have to save that time in order to practice exam questions. Also, I understand that you go to school in person for the lab but for 4 hours of inefficient lecture. .
He is the best the professor. This class is hard but he tried to make it easy. We had guided notes and in class activity and 3 tests. The guided notes are time consuming. Take advantage of extra credit because you are going to need it. His tests are really hard so you should study.
Preparing for exams can be challenging since they're mainly memorization. Completing all the guided notes, extra credit, and pre-labs is crucial. Assignments are due before both lecture and lab sessions. The professor is friendly and grades based on attendance and participation. Attendance is mandatory. He is a bit flexible when it comes to things.
He doesn't teach!!!! You will have to watch his lecture video and write them in hand. Honestly find someone else if you are used to lecturing and technology!!!
Lots of work, clear expectations, overall good teacher
Great professor! awesome course set up. definitely take him
He was overall a good professor. It was a challenging class but he was a personable guy who was generous with extra credit. A lot of the material is mostly up to you to be able to learn it. The majority of the time the only stuff he accepts is handwritten. It was a challenging class but he made it accessible to do well in.
I really loved this class. Matthew was such a sweet professor. He's kind and cares about getting to know his students. He's almost always free to help so if you're struggling in the class, you should reach out to him. Exams are hard but if you get an understanding of the material you'll pass with flying colors. I'm sad he doesn't teach 1114 :(
best professor I have had at cscc. He uses a reverse classroom method, which means you watch lecture online. The lectures are split into small videos, most of them being 20 minutes or less which worked amazingly for me. He has very easy to follow guided notes to go along with them. Complete these and the in class work and you will easily pass
Matt is probably my favorite biology professor I have ever had. BIO1113 is intense in general, and there is a lot required of you to learn to progress as a biology major, but Matt makes it easy for you, and you just have to do the work. Do his guided notes, create your cheat sheets for the exams, participate, and you can ACE this class no problem.
I could confidently say that Im the best student he has ever taught so My perspective holds significant weight. Do ur work on time, Matt be giving extra credits like he is Oprah so take advantage of that. you need to prep for the tests ahead of time, also if you don't understand sth just go and ask em during office hours it ain't that hard!
He's just a good professor.
He was such a caring professor who sets you up to pass! Take him !!
Professor Saelzler is a wonderful person. His class is a joy to be in, and he does get off track a lot, however he teaches you everything you need to know. The class is a bit lecture heavy, and the lectures are long and outside of the class, but other than that the class is amazing. It's not too difficult, just a lot of work and studying.
This class requires a TON of guided notes, but they really prepare you for the exams. He is a great instructor and sets you up to pass the class if you do the required material.
I took Matthew's class over the summer and enjoyed every bit of it. He is always willing to help and answer questions, though he will look for you to answer them first. Very detailed oriented in explaining and checks for understanding. Post lecture slides and the best note guides ahead of time so you should go into class knowing what to expect.
I took Mr. Matthew's class this semester and to be honest with you. He is overall a pretty decent teacher! As long as you are consistent with your work and actually put the effort in you get a good grade and he sees that. Overall, Matthew Saelzler is a solid 9.9/10 teacher! Ps, he's lowkey kinda funny. 😭
Funny guy overall, good professor. Teaches in a flipped classroom model so be prepared to do a lot of watching lectures on your own. If you do the work and study for the exams you will not fail this class. He offers a lot of extra credit for tests as well!
Professor Saelzer is fantastic and offers all the resources you need in order to succeed in this class. There are numerous opportunities for extra credit and it's awesome. A lot of notes and studying to do out of class but not super overwhelming. Professor is super willing to help with anything
Matthew is amazing! Very passionate about Bio, hilarious and loves a great conversation! Gives 45 bonus pts. I had 97% in class before final, got a 55% on final and got a 94% final course grade. Memorization is a great skill to have for this class. Labs are middle school level and just for completion. Would take again!
Matthew is an awesome professor! He has clear expectations but is still reasonable. There's a lot of HW and tests were challenging but he also had 45pts of extra credit assignments and was very helpful during office hours. He was always clear about what was on the exams, if you study and ask questions you will do well. He is also very funny!
Saelzler has a great sense of humor which makes the class enjoyable. He uses the flipped classroom method, so the homework is just guided notes. There are also a lot of in class activities, so showing up is important. The exams aren't too bad, just a lot of memorization of concepts. He also grades solely off completion which is great. 10/10!
Matthew is a great teacher and makes his lectures fun by adding in jokes. For me, he seemed pretty intimidating, but that feeling eased off as we continued with the course. His exams are almost the same as the exam reviews he gives out. He's really picky with some material, so be ready to look into the rubric often. Definitely recommend him!
for starters, he's really funny ( very dry sense of humor). does a flipped classroom which I ended up really liking. I took this course over the summer so it was a little stressful but still really enjoyed. You can get 15 extra credit points per exam which SAVED me bc I bombed two exams. he also accepts 4 late assignments !!
Be prepared to HAND WRITE lots of guided notes which are extremely helpful. He's a great teacher and cares about what he teaches. Labs are easy long as you show up and do the lab manual. If you want to learn about Biology, he is the teacher to learn from. He gives extra credit (15 points every exam)!! helps your grade a lot.
He's a professor that really wants you to do well he gives you extra points for doing the review sheets for exams, just overall gives you a lot of resources before exams so it's hard to do bad in his class. His personality is hard to understand and he's a slow grader but I enjoyed his class and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
