He is a good professor I really like him. He make everyone laugh more than once per class. He likes drinking jokes.
Very funny fellow. Anyone who has to take Comp I still and especially those of us who don't like English classes should seriously consider taking his class. I hate English classes, but his was fun.
this teacher sucks he is very unclear on what he is teaching, he tells you to write about one thing, then when you turn it in, he tells you that it wasn't even part of the assignment. He is confused. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Dude! You must have been that one guy he told us about who flunked the class because you missed more than 15 classes. Obviously you are going to do poorly on the papers if you're not there to know what you're supposed to be writing about! This term his assignments seem pretty clear.
I agree he is very unclear on stuff first tells you to write one thing then says no how about you do this totally changes your topic and gives you a low grade if he doesn't like the topic. The highest anyone has gotten in his class is a "B" but my badluck do not take this teacher don't look at the other comments i did the same mistake and took him
Good Teacher
Was better than I thought he would be. Made the subject clearer than most English teachers.
He is a pretty cool teacher, but he does need more clarity in the assignments he gives.
Never never Take this class!!! He is a crap....never teach prpperly just there in college for the paycheck.......he SUX!!!
Best english teacher I have had so far.
Best teachers Ive ever had, he really knows what he is talking about when he grades papers. I thought he was hilarious as well and always enjoyed going to class.
Awesome teacher, very funny. makes English fun.
A lot of people don't like the fact that he is opinionated, I can't say that I do eiter. But heads up... Get in good with the man, and be super interested in all of his funky readings. Act like he's your idol... Oh yeah!!! YOU'LL PASS!!
he is to sarcastic and set on his ways. He is basically very very rude and obnoxious!
He was helpful and very understanding when i was having problems in my writing class
I found his method of teaching refreshing and informative at the same time. His laid back, yet firm approach made learning a lot easier and much more enjoyable. I would most certainly take another class from him.
He took a whole month to give us back our first paper and made us by three books just so he can play commercials the whole class.
This teacher is awesome. He has a funny sense of humor. He gives verry clear instructions on how to write your papers and if you show up to class and take notes you wont spend a lot of time writting your papers. He also uses the internet to relate to class topics. Great teacher must take!
He is an extremely hard grader--ouch! He is sarcastic, but fun. Sometimes doesn't always stay on track but usually you can bring him back to the topic. Sometimes you walk away from class wondering if you learned anything, and thinking you should have stayed in bed.
Mr Schmeer was a deceit teacher. I found his random sarcastic remarks kind of funny. He always tries to bring examples into what we do using things on the computer. Not the easiest teacher and you actually have to write good papers to get a good grade.
Professor Schmeer is awesome. He's a little rough in the beginning of the semester. well that is until you catch on to his since of humor. then he's extremely funny. Show up and you'll learn a lot. Also stop by his office when you have questions. He is really helpful answering them to the best his ability. TAKE COMP 1 from him!
UBER HOT
Way to strick. Only likes funny papers. Thinks he's cool.
He is a bad grader. He wants your comp I papers to be perfect. Half the time you don't have any idea whats going on because he is rambling on and on in his own little world.
Very nice teacher. Makes english enjoyable and the classes are made interesting and very funny. You don't always read the textbook and then just start writing, but incorporate outside media, ect. to help make paper more entertaining and spawn ideas into your head. Expect to work hard and do alot of writing since it is an English class though and ma
Great teacher who gives students plenty of time and resources to learn and do their work properly. The only problem I had was with his late/attendance policy.
If you actually show up and participate then there really isn't any way to fail this class.
Dude is tough, but makes you learn. Watch out for his research projects--you will have to earn the grade, but if you take it seriously, you'll also earn the guy's respect. And that was almost more important than the grade to me. This guy knows his stuff, but he can come off as a cornball. Take him if you want to learn how to write.
Schmeer is a very devoted professor. Composition is one of the few classes that I really look forward to when starting my day. He is not an "easy" teacher, but you will learn something.
I've always been a great English student and he gave me a D on my first paper. It took him a month to give the first paper back and we didn't get to look at it before our second one was due so my second paper was bound to get a bad grade. I didn't learn anything except that he likes Homestar Runner.
Prof. Schmeer is a fun professor to take a class from, but also teaches good material. Loves the Internet and sarcasm, which he opens every class with. His comments on papers are helpful and challenging, and he actually does give a damn about his students. My only complaint is that he picks a few crappy textbooks. Great professor overall.
Professor Schmeer is insightful and wise. He is very helpful with the Creative writing process, giving examples consistently and creating a brainstorming environment among students. He also, in my opinion, has the best sense of humor imaginable. But be warned, it can sometimes be toward your writing which makes it even funnier if you have humor.
He was a great teacher! He pushed you to do your best, no matter what your level was.
i took this class nearly 3 years ago and dont recall this guy being funny by ANY means! what i do recall is that he was the toughest grader imaginable and pretty much gave you no chance! whenever i hear someone is taking comp 2 i warn them about this guy!he is seriously tough and not so funny unless u call mocking your paper funny!
Took honors comp. Funny, interesting guy. Lectures are informative. Students were given wide-berth when choosing topics to write about. It's hard to know how well you are doing from a grade point stand because grades are given at the end of the semester. You have plenty of time to revise. Highly recommend if you want to write well.
In his honors class. He comes across as arrgoant and dosen't have a lot fo time for 1on1 instruction. He gives you a lot of freedom, but expects quality work. He tends to be vague. His idea of a good paper baffles me sometimes. He thinks outside the box and exoects you to also. If you don't mind Earning your grade he is good choice.
If you're willing to put forth effort, you'll do fine. But if you're a slacker with no interest in attending class or improving your writing skills and are simply seeking an easy A,go find some lame-a$$ teacher. Can't handle constructive criticism or sarcasm? He has no respect for slackers, but will work hard with those wanting to reach full potential.
it was a hard class, you really have to keep up to get through. But I loved the class. He was entertaining and promoted thinking and creativity in his class. He did not want drones! was always willing to help. Hard but worth it!
Essentially if you do are capable of turning the assigned work when it's due, you'll do fine. He's a great teacher who loves discussion and a good laugh. He has no problem helping you any way he can and he's actually in his office during his office hours. He genuinely excited me about learning. Eh.. corny but true.
Prof. Schmeer is the man. Admittedly, if you want to do well in his class, you need to be engaged in the discussions and in the assignments. But I see that as a good thing. I tried taking a comp II class last semester after having him for my honors comp I class, and I had to drop it because I liked him so much better. He's my current comp II prof.
I did not think his assignments were hard by any means, but there are A LOT. he assigned something every single night. and he also focuses on attendance. You must attend his classes to get points.
I had a dream that I had come into class, and he was giving a lecture on the meaning of life, while shredding on a guitar. Towards the end of the dream, he left to get enough guitars for everyone. When I woke up, I was completely unsurprised. It's like that, basically.
Loved the class, but not the teacher. Took Honors Composition I. He cusses a lot and doesn't believe religion has a place in the classroom. He expects a lot out of you and isn't one to give one on one help. I really like the points he brings up, but attitude can completely make or break a class - and his broke it.
Very strict, lots of work and homework every night. Very smart and a decent teacher, but his personality is annoying. Take other English teachers before this guy if possible, however you'll pass if you do the work and show up to class.
Took an honors class and really enjoyed it. I learned a lot about the process, revising, editing, etc. Show up to class, do the work, use the writing center for sure, have a good time, earn a good grade.
Prof. Schmeer is pretty much amazing. First impressions are he's a hard ass. And if you have a life outside of class, the work will be difficult, but Schmeer is one of the easiest professors to talk to and give assistance/suggestions/feedback. Also, he's a giant nerd and loves to laugh.
Do the work. He is fun and interesting, and he is willing to help you, but do the work. Beyond that, you will learn and grow in his class.
Hon Comp 1 is a tough class, but it is interesting and you will learn a lot about writing. Prof. Schmeer seems scary at first, but is a reasonable guy. Go to class, do the work, don't be stupid.
Before I took Professor Schmeers class, I was unable to stay interested in any of my composition classes, due to the fact that I felt that they were pandering to the lowest common denominator. Mr. Schmeer makes this course fun and engaging and I actually feel the need to prove myself. Not only that he's fun and easy to talk to.
Love this class! Great discussion, but not a class for the lazy.
Great professor! I was a bit intimidated going into this class, but as long as you do your work and participate in discussion you'll do fine. He has great discussions!
If you do not want to do the work . . . why would you sign up for honors at all? It is a lot of work, but Professor Schmeer keeps it entertaining. This class will make you think and you will grow as a writer. If that's what you want from a Comp 1 course, take him! I plan on taking more classes from him.
I had him for Honors Comp I, which was surprisingly fun. It's a challenging course, but Schmeer is certainly entertaining ("I footnote my conversations!"). Comp I is a required course and this class was an excellent way to fulfill the requirement and grow as a writer. TAKE THIS CLASS!
best english teacher ever, take him he is awesome and helpful.
Very upbeat, personable teacher. Easy to talk to and has a very blunt, yet funny attitude. He expects hard work, but is always willing to help students outside of class. He also grades work fairly and is very understanding of outside situations. Just put in a strong effort and the class will be cake.
He's the best! He doesn't tolerate laziness but if he knows you're putting in the effort he will do everything in his power to help you. Great lectures! He taught me to write. Not only is he an expert at writing, he is also an expert at teaching. I wish he was my teacher in every subject.
He is a smart and intelligent instructor and knows what he is actually talking about, except his homework load forces you to have no life outside his one class. If you are planning on taking more than 12 hours, have a job, or in athletics STAY AWAY FROM THIS INSTRUCTOR. Also his attendance policy is extremely harsh.
The class isn't difficult. Read assignments carefully! You can listen to the lectures and pass about 85-90% of the tests/quizzes without touching the book. When it comes to papers, either pass well or fail miserably (he will not allow redo's if you pass; ex: 70/100).
Great teacher,great class!
He is OK. Lots of work, lots of outside class reading and lots of reports on the reading. Lots of essay and overall... a lot of work. Not your typical teacher and at sometimes, rude. No major tests which is great. If you are good at writing this is good for you. Definitely not an easy grade in any way. Again... He is OK, not recommended.
This professor is a decent teacher he is not hard teacher but he is not always clear with his directions on assignments. He does not listen to you if you need help but if you are student that usually does not talk to teachers then you will do well . The class as whole is not hard but make sure to read all instruction very thoroughly.
The teacher is nice but most of the time gets off topic and talks about who knows what. We had to drop one essay cuz we got behind. Grades essays really hard so to get A your paper has to be perfect. A lot of out of class reading.Requires these stupid outlines of your sources which dont even help to write a paper
With english not being my 1st language, I was intimidated at first by the requirements of the class. But Schmeer is fun, understanding and really helpful too! He is pretty slow at grading papers, but just be patient with him. The class seems hard if you don't show up and don't follow instructions. I surprisingly got a 100% on a paper. TAKE HIM!!
I've had this professor for three different classes (ENGL 121, 122 and 223) and I would highly recommend him. He reads all of the papers very thoroughly and gives tons of feedback. There aren't any tests so the class is just focused on writing. Laid back attitude and good sense of humor. SLOW at grading.
He gets off topic easily, and is a slow grader. He does give good feedback and loves what he does. Tough grader!
Honors English Composition II was more like a politicalsocial science class than a writing class. We read books that dealt with a lot of social topics and class was about 87% discussion of those books. He's a serious grader, aka you have to work hard on papers. But he gives good feedback. Overall good course, would suggest if you're motivated.
He's Lord Tangent sent forth from the realm of Procrastination to confuse eager to learn students. Overloaded from the 6-8 classes he was instructing never came prepared for our class. Nice guy. Englishgrammatical contentsociological discussions. I'm still waiting for an English teacher at JCCC to learn me some English. Strict grader.
He is a really good teacher! I totally miss his class. He is very helpful and laid off but when it comes to essays he will expect you to do your best and to write long essays if you want to get a good grade. His class was easier than Comp 1. I got a B+ even though English is not my first language.
Super down to Earth. Funny, he doesn't hand things back in a timely manner, but he does a good job explaining and setting you up for success.
not really mandatory. he just says it is. EVERYONE gets an A if you do your work.
NO. TESTS. not even a final. He just assigns papers and they're not ridiculously long either, the longest one is about 8 pages. He believes that a writing class should be about writing and so therefore does not like to assign busy work. Just do the work and there's no way you can fail. A for Effort!
I've always been a good writer, A's all through school, and Schmeer was the first teacher to give me a B on a paper. It motivated me to actually work hard and improve and by the end of the semester I had A+ papers. Most of class is a discussion of readings, no tests, he really appreciates dry humor and satire. Our final project was a satire paper.
Great English teacher. He taught me to write well! So helpful, and class is not boring. I would take it again.
Schmeer is awesome! I can't see how anybody would feel differently. He says he is a hard grader up front but the criteria is always clear. An A is very achievable. He is also hilarious and jokes around a lot, but simultaneously the most helpful English teacher I've ever had. I will definitely be taking his comp 2 course in the future.
He will never grade things in an appropriate time, takes several weeks to grade papers.
This class is more like a high school English class. On our class schedule it would say we would be working on an essay or doing peer reviews but the entire class would just be lecture. There will six essays to write in this class including an 8-11 page research paper. If the research paper isn't perfect it is impossible to get a good grade on it.
I had I hopes for this class, but instead I was met with tough and late graded essays, non stop meaningless lectures, and insanely lengthy irrelevant essays. I would not recommend this class if you're just trying to get anything above a C in the class. Not to mention he's totally not teacher material, SERIOUSLY DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Schmeer is a tough-ass grader, but you learn how to write college-level papers in his class. His research papers are insanely long and complex, but he is preparing you for classes you'll take later in college. I used what I learned in his class to get As on papers in Poli Sci and for scholarship essays. He defintely knows what he's doing. Take him!
It's a required writing class, so I expected it to be boring and tough. It was. He's an extremely difficult grader. Pro tip: see him in office hours and have your paper in your hand. He's better giving feedback one-on-one and he makes amazing edits. But be prepared for the red pen of doom if you think you can just pull a paper out of your butt.
Dude seriously knows about story and story styles. He talks alot about D&D and tabletop rpgs and you play it in class a few times. The class project is fun, but a bit disorganized. He gives lots of times to do crazy writing assignments in class like create a creature, here's three weird photoshops--what are they and what do they do in your game3.
I was lucky to get into his class at the last minute. He's decsent, but makes you work for your grades -- I got C's on alot of papers before I finally got an A on something. His comments on papers are hard to read--he needs to go back to 3rd grade and improve his penmanship or start grading stuff online.
This class is very informative, and I highly recommend it. It was beyond writing and grammar. This class really challenges you in your writing skills, and to think deeper. He has terrible handwriting, but I enjoyed the class!
He is awesome teacher. Very caring
Don't take him unless you really want to learn how to write. You can only get good at something by practicing and he makes you practice a lot.
I love English. It is my best subject. Well i thought it was until i took this class with this teacher. He trails off so much during lectures, it's like he's speaking in a different language. should have dropped when i had the chance. not to mention he goes way past the class end time. 10/10 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
non-stop talker, irrelevant essays, late grader, and he treats you as if you already know how to write essays at a high level. take a different class if you actually want to learn and know what you're doing.
If you loathe writing long essays, do NOT take this class. Professor Schmeer makes you work hard for your A. The essays he assigns aren't necessarily hard topics, they're just very long and require a lot of outside class time to get done. However, Schmeer definitely made me a better writer.
I had a hard time keeping up in this class. I, however had a horrible comp 1 professor that did almost absolutely nothing, so that didn't really help me at all. If you are looking for a professor who is trying to get you somewhere, then this professor is for you. I wasn't ready for this class, but that is just me.
Hes a good guy, funny essays account for all of grade so make sure to do well on those, but his lectures are tolerable and i actually became a better writer overall.
Professor Schmeer really taught me how to write. I know what you're thinking, "duh, English professors should always teach you how to write." Matthew Schmeer was incredible and really built my confidence in writing academic papers. If you are willing to work hard, please take him.
Schmeer certainly makes students work for their grade. But the classmates that were complaining were also the ones hardly showing up and clearly not trying in any classes. You will have to write 5 essays ranging from 4-8 pages depending on which essay. We were given PLENTY of time to do these. Take him if you want to be a better writer.
only cons: often starts and ends class a few minutes late, and takes forever to return papers. cranky but likeable, don't be afraid to approach if you have an issue! strong dad vibes. immune to playing favorites. will meet you wherever you're at with your writing skills but expects a good honest effort on the essays. overall solid comp prof.
I used to love English but since I've been taking his class, he's by far the toughest teacher I've ever had. He makes us do extra work with no purpose of benefiting from it. He talks all hour and doesn't keep up on grades. I definitely wouldn't recommend his class to anyone. I'm so excited to be done with his class.
Professor Schmeer is not BAD. However, I would not take again. My issue is, he is a very SLOW grader. We are on Essay 4 and have yet to receive our grades for Essay 2 & 3 which stinks because I cannot see what to improve on my next paper. We also have un-needed assignments that create "busy-work." Just avoid if you get annoyed easily.
For Comp.2 you will have five essays and only a little bit of class time to do, so be sure to have some extra time set to finish these. Spend most of the day listening to lectures, but they are informative and mildly entertaining. Would take one of his classes again.
nightmare
I really enjoy professor Schmeer. He is so nice and really helps you out. He is a tough grade but if you're struggling he will help you out to succeed. He will help you more if you have good attendance. I struggle with writing and he really made it as easy as possible. One of my favorite professors I have had at this University.
Schmeer is a great professor. You may note that those who have left poor reviews also declined to share their grade. He is incredibly fair in his grading, and meets students where they're at. He's always enjoyable, passionate, and hilarious. You will have to put in work in order to succeed, but that's what we, as college students, signed up for.
Had him for COMP2, and I had to put in work to pass this class. Professor Schmeer is a funny character, and he has some interesting lectures. There's 5 essays with the last one being a major research paper. 2 of the essays are just 3-page summaries of an article. He did have us read a book for discussions, but we didn't finish it. Would take again!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! I made the mistake of ignoring his rating because he was one of the only profs. left but I highly regret this. He is an awful professor. His grading is so unorganized and complicated to understand and on top of that he takes months to grade papers so you go into each paper not knowing what you need to improve.
His syllabus comes off harsh and I was unsure of how this course would go. This class requires attendance, effort and participation for success. If you don't apply yourself, he will notice. Not an easy A but ultimately he made me a better writer. Con: how long it would take to get papers graded but was lenient about it affecting other papers.
He holds papers hostage, but otherwise a pretty good professor. He just needs to get papers back sooner.
HORRIBLE. LITERALLY A NIGHTMARE! NEVER GRADES IN ANY ORGANIZATIONAL CONSISTENCY, NEVER GRADES ON TIME, NIGHTMARE DO NOT TAKE!!!
I thought he was a really good composition teacher, as long as you showed up to classes and did most work you were okay. His lectures were pretty good, I will say that he pauses for students to answer and I feel like it was either me or one other person who ever actually answered with in the whole class. But to be fair it was a 9 a.m. class.
Is solid, but is a workaholic that makes us do trivial assignment half the time. I remember at the beginning of the semester he threw us into group projects and said that all remaining work would be centered around a game we were designing. Come to found out that kind of is a lie as 70% of said "work" barely involved stuff from the game.
I had Professor Schmeer for Comp 2 after 21 years of being out of school. His class was challenging yet fair. His syllabus was intimidating, to say the least, but his grading was consistent and fair. There were delays in grading but he was upfront and adjusted due dates accordingly. I am a significantly better writer due to his guidance and feeback
I took Schmeer's Comp. II class during the semester when the coronavirus pandemic began. Before campus closed, I really enjoyed his class. And he was very dedicated to getting the class up and running and delivering a quality class once we went online. You learn a lot in his class, and he is funny and enjoyable to listen to during lectures.
I took Schmeer for his CW class and loved it so much I signed up for this one! Schmeer is a SLOW grader but he is funny, respectful, and his feedback is personal to the projects that you and your peers are doing! Don't be afraid to ask him questions, he is happy to answer and so long as you participate, his classes are a breeze!
DO NOT TAKE HIM. I didn't learn a single thing, he is very rude and does not go over what essays are supposed to be about or help you, just tells you to look on canvas or go to the writing center. Gives unimportant, weird lectures every class period and attendance is mandatory. VERY slow grader and he missed several class periods.
Schmeer requires textbooks a lot of the readings can be found free online. There's a lot of reading and discussion but if people don't talk he assumes you've read the material and moves on, so ASK QUESTIONS. My favorite part is when he breaks down the structure of readings to explain how to imitate them. But he IS a sloooooow grader!
He tells a lot of corny jokes but needs to update his references (we get it, dude, you grew up in the 80's . . .). There were a lot of papers on the syllabus but he dropped one because he had to miss so many classes, so that was cool. I went to office hours a lot and to the writing center so that's why I got a B. If you put in effort, he notices.
Be sure to do the readings because he asks questions and it gets awkward when no one speaks up. I mean, he will just stare at the class for literally minutes until someone tries to answer. So, weird, but good. If you're looking for an easy class, don't bother. But if you want to learn to write better papers, take him.
It's part 2 of freshman comp, so you write a lot. He's okay. Not great, but just okay. He seems disorganized and constantly makes excuses for why he isn't finished grading, and he does take A LONG time to grade stuff. Weeks, sometimes. But he's fair and gives good feedback. I skipped most peer reviews and some homework and my grade showed it.
He totally reamed a student paper showing us how it was plagiarized and how easy it was to find out. Totally made me sweat because I suck at writing so I copying & paste a lot so I thought I was going to be a goner but then he showed us the tricks to writing better papers so I ended up with better grades in my psych class than in his.
Good professor, just wish he would take some more class time to actually discuss and look at the current essays because I feel like I could have benefitted more, though I do think his class helped me improve my writing. He has a sarcastic personality, but I think most of us were able to relate to him better because of it.
Schmeer is one of the better teachers I've had at JCCC. While he takes a bit to grade stuff, he gives good feedback and pushes you to go deeper. He loves asking WHY and SO WHAT so get used to those scribbled in between the lines of your essays. If you can answer those two questions for every point you make you'll do alright on your papers.
Takes literally FOREVER to return papers. He gets behind and then changes assignment dates at the last minute. Still, he's pretty decent. I learned how to write longer, better papers. NEVER turn in a 5 paragraph essay to this man unless you want an F. I learned the hard way, but bounced back okay. I have a B right now going into the final paper.
Professor Schmeer is genuinely a good lecturer, but organization and communication about assignments was not always clear. Reading and essays were often very very boring. A lot of busy work and plan on spending many hours outside of class doing the work. Tough grader. (p.s. choose another COMP2 class if your not prepared to crank).
He is very well versed in his field and has great lectures but they are very lengthy. My personal learning style requires more visual learning and step-by-step processes, so I had difficulty with this class. I also would not recommend this course if you struggle with time management or, take advantage of the tutors in the writing center to help you
The people who say he takes forever to grade are right. It took him a month to return one of our papers. But his grading rubrics are clear and he makes tons of comments all over the paper. If you go to his office hours he's really nice and will nerd out over pop culture stuff. The man literally has D&D books from the 1970s lining his office.
Professor Schmer spends a lot of time talking in class but hes funny in a dad joke funny kind of way which makes up for all the talking. We wrote a lot of papers in the class and he makes you do peer review which is worthless because hes supposed to be the expert not us, so be ready to BS your way through peer review.
Takes too long to grade but will go over papers in office hours. He spends a lot of time on reverse outlining readings and sample papers to teach you how to write your own papers, which is a useful skill. Most of the readings are from online newspapers and the required textbook is all about how to write using sources and sound smart.
Took this class in the summer. Professor Schmeer assigns some group work and peer reviews to do in class. The class is relatively easy and you will do well on your papers as long as you follow the given grading criteria. Talks for a while in class, although the concepts do relate directly to the papers you are working on.
Schmeer is really enjoyable to learn from. During lectures, he is well-spoken without being confusing. Criteria could be clearer when it comes to assignments but most of it is common sense. The essays are freeing. It's the first English class I've taken where I'm not stressed or anxious about starting a paper. 9/10 teacher. 10/10 dude.
Cool teacher
Really good teacher, just show up, participate and take advantage of using the writing center as he will give you extra credit just for doing that.
Professor Schmeer is a good professor, he will lecture but I couldn't always follow. Working with your tablemates really helped. He does have you do peer editing which helps a lot, but I'd say he's a pretty strict grader. If you follow the guidelines, and get help from the writing center (which is extra credit), you're good to go.
Professor Schmeer is engaging, if a bit wordy. The class involves a lot of writing, but he provides helpful feedback. Try unstuck study alongside the textbook to stay on top of the work. Attendance is mandatory, so be ready to participate.
I had him my winter semester and I forgot to put my rating, but he was a good teacher, lecture heavy, must come to class and didn't use the normal grading system we are used to! At first I was nervous about it but over the course of the year it was nice and made me work harder in a way! In comp 2 you'll have to buy two books so be prepared.
Showing up and doing the class exercises is a great way to earn points. He meets with students one-on-one, gives verbal feedback about their papers, and allows you to revise them. Do what is asked of you and you should have no problems.
Generally okay class, he makes you keep a reading journal and is very particular about it. Lectures are mostly a pain, attendance is graded at the end of the semester. Makes you use templates for writing, I don't feel like I learned more, just filled in templates. Good feedback. Let's you turn in revised essays; okay overall. Nothing learned.
This class was ridiculously time consuming. He started out the semester by saying to not expect an A, most students get a C. This class is literally essay after essay and revolves around the same thing over and over. My first english class was nothing like this so it was an eye-opener for sure. I would recommend a different professor honestly.
This class is super boring, and you won't really learn much. Even if you enjoy writing, this class will be a slog, since we only wrote and researched about a single topic. The entire semester. Also, the workload is a little unrealistic. There are plenty of better teachers out there, don't choose this guy.
