he is a good teacher, BUT he doesn'tlet students use their calculater. he doesn a lot of talking about math...homework every day...quiz two time a week...his quiz tells him if you do your homework or not...so after reading this, you will know not to take him or not
MR SCHUTTE IS AWESOME! HE TEACHES WITH A "SMART ASS" SENSE OF HUMOUR WHICH KEEPS YOU AWAKE HES DOES HALF THE WORK FOR YOU BY GIVING YOU PRINTED NOTES HE FLYS THROUGH COURSE MATERIAL SO IF YOU DONT KEEP UP YOUR MORE THEN LIKELY TO FAIL GORGEOUS SMILE!
cool teacher and a very helpful person if you want him to be..
This instructor is abrasive. Will say to the class many will drop from his class. Will make the course more difficult --- no calculators, doesn't teach from textbook. Gives quizzes every class, will test you on three or four chapters at time. He moves very fast, collects all homework assignment on exam day.
Very abrasive instructor. Will say many students will drop his course. Stickler on prequisites--- be ready. Gives quizzes each class session. Assigns homework that's due each exam date. Exam covers 3 or 4 chapters of material. No calculators allowed, til he say so. Makes course harder than needs to be. Does not use textbook for lecture.
Be very careful with this guy.. he is not very good at teaching. He doesn't like to be corrected, so don't get smart with him. Homework amount is fair, about 3-4 sections per week out of the text. Quizzes you almost everyday to make sure you've done your homework. Take this class only if you're confident with your math skills.
Mr Schutte teaches differently, but I like his style a lot. You must pay attention and do homework. This class is not for the weak. He does encourage understanding and questions, but he can move on very quickly. Overall I would recommend him if you actually want to learn about math.
He is a stickler about pre-req's; it's policy and out of his control. He allows calculators when needed; most of the time they're unnecessary. Homework load isn't bad (could easily be worse). He tries to be accomodating with the grading. He tries his best to make sure everybody understands the material. Schutte's an awesome, funny teacher.
Mr. Schutte is a pretty awsome teacher! He makes trig a lot less boring, has a great personality, easy to talk to, teaching methods are great and if you don't understand something he'll go over it until you do. And it's true he doesn't collect the homework til the day of the exams but that's not a bad thing. I recommend this class to anyone!
HE'S COOL. IF YOU TALK SMACK, HE TALKS SMACK BACK. HE HATES BEING WRONG AND HE CANT STAND INTERRUPTIONS!! DONT EVER BE LATE AND ACT LIKE YOURE READY TO LEARN NOT TO TEACH. HE'S A LITTLE ANNOYING, BUT HEY, HE'LL GET YOU THROUGH. AFTER ALL, HE IS SMARTER THAN US!!!
Prof. Schutte's class is not one for the weak. He tries to teach 2-3 lessons per class which makes all lectures rushed and barely leaves time for questions. If you miss one day of class, it would be tough trying to catch up. Tests are NOT fair; include questions never brought up in class...take at your own risk.
Highly recommended for fans of button-up polo shirts, wit, and Jon Lovitz. Willing to put in as much time as you are. Answers the most obscure questions you could possibly email him and offers you a chance to get him a free meal. Test material IS covered but he presents it cunningly with multiple ideas per problem. Think, kids.
He is a good professor. His teaching technics are very accurate and effective. He does not allow calculator because we do not need it at all. Manual calculations help us to understand the real meaning of the subject. The quizzes and the exams are the same exercises that we reviewed at class. By doing the homework, one does not need to study hard.
Great math teacher. Best teacher I've had, period. He obviously wants you to learn and understand the material, and he comes well prepared to teach and to answer any and all questions you have. He requires you to think. You can't coast through his class, but if you're there to learn, he's there to guide you.
Great instructor! Very helpful and willing to put as much time into something as you are. Will explain it several times until you actually understand what he is saying. Exams are on the harder side but if you studied they should be a breeze. Also has a quiz about once a week.
he's an excellent teacher. Yes we have quizzes sometimes twice a week but if he sees the class needs more help in a certain chapter he will go over it. MAKE SURE YOUR CELLPHONE IS OFF BECAUSE IF IT ISN'T YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE AND WHEN YOU LEAVE YOU MISS A WHOLE CLASS SESSION. It's just out of respect you go to class to learn. He's awesome
Best math teacher I've ever had. Very organized and won't waste class time talking about other things that don't relate to the subject. He wants you to succeed. -If you're looking to coast through and not learn or come to class don't take his class.
Best teacher I've ever had. Funny. Quick. Helpful (if you come during office hours). Very clear way of making you understand the subject matter. Keep your cell phones off, and don't chat with your neighbors during class, and he will have no problems with you. However, if you insult him, don't be thin skinned, because he will come back at you.
is very funny. he is very helpful.keep your cell phones off and enjoy his class. you'll thank him some day for being your math teacher
A great professor. Very helpful, takes the time to explain, quiz's every week but I find it helpful as it let me know exactly how I was doing- I really liked that. Over all I would say take his class- I know I hope to take one of his classes at another date.
SCHUTTE is pretty much a kick ass teacher. Classes aren't mandatory, we're all adults but it's crazy stupid if you miss his lecture because it makes everything that much easier. He doesn't put up with bull**** & he's rather comical. if your easily offended or u cant stand to turn ur cell off dont take him. other wise he's great, im taking him agai
Professor schutte is the best math teacher i've ever had. he's funny and dont take no ****. u will have to turn n abot 10 homework assignments right b4 every test but the homework only helps you in the long run. he's a Genius, he does math 100 all the way to calculus. pick him up!
what more can i say? mr. shutte is the best math teacher ever! get him guys! he is very helpfull and always make sure that everybody in the class understands. he also shares some techniques he had learned to make math more understandable!
THIS CLASS MOVES quickly...for me, im a slow learner when it comes to math, which made this class SUPER difficult for me! this teacher is pretty funny, but can mean. He will totally call you out and tell you to leave if he catches you with a cell phone. he doesnt collect homework everyday.
I took him during summer school so it was fast, but do to his ability to turn math language into English I could understand. He gets his test questions from text, making them consistent to hmw. Supper helpful in office hours and makes a comfortable and funny classroom environment. not to mention he is very cute. ;P
control freek, rude, doesn't like older students.
He is the best Math teacher I have ever had. He is willing to help you out whenever you have a question...Did I say he was handsome?? He gives constant homework but without it you will fail the test. hes so handsome.!! Take him....great on the eyes I tell ya!!
This teacher's witty comments makes the often dry task of learning math fun. The combination of his humor and affluent ability to clearly explain math concepts make this teacher very attractive (in more ways than one).
fantastic teacher, provided lecture notes so you just had to fill in the blanks. provided easy to grasp concepts and methods. do the assigned homework and turn up to class and you'll be fine
FAVORITE TEACHER OF ALL TIME. he really cares about teaching the material and actually wants you to understand. Super funny too.
Hated math, but teaches in a unique way that really helps you understand. Go to office hours if needed, he's really helpful one on one. Come to class everyday because once you miss one, you'll be completely lost. Study, do hwk and take notes and you should do well!
Professor Schutte is a good professor. He tends to joke around in class. I at times found that bit distracting... he also can also be very blunt. Overall hes a good professor.
He is a GREAT teacher! I?m so sad he?s not teaching math 100 for Spring 11?. Hopefully I get him for math 120. He is very clear!!!
I love the way he's teaching the class, very smart and unique. Professor Schutte hates cell phones whoever thinking about bringing cell phone to class you better turn it off or make sure it will not make a noise or buzzing sound, otherwise he will be seriously mad!
Took him for trig a few semesters ago. He's actually a decent instructor compared to most math teachers at SCC. But he seriously needs to chill.. He is extremely mean & rude to a lot of students... Try not to get on his bad side.
GREAT TEACHER if you ever had a bad math teacher like most of us had Mr.Schutte is the exact opposite. He knows what he's talking about.
I've always hated math and never understood it's formulas and concepts, but after the knowledge i've obtained from this professor I'm excited to learn. I'm also a lot more confident in my algebra skills now. Quizzes every week (take home or in class), four exams, final, and homework. Attendance is not mandatory.
Funniest teacher ever! He's also quite confident. His study guides are practically what will be on the test. He's just overall an AWESOME teacher. Sit in the front or middle and study in the Math Lab and even you can get a "B" like me. Also participate. He's awesome! Wait, did I mention hes awesome? Best Math Teacher I have taken so far in college!
You get the grade equal to the amount of work you put into this class. Don't let his charm or quick wit fool you into thinking he is an easy A. In his class, respect is a two-way street, so come prepared. If you really want to understand math, sign up for his class... you will not be disappointed. If you are lazy, you wont last the semester...
Excellent. The entire semester I was under the impression this is just a guy who knows math really well. goes fast, but always willing to come in on days off to help study. take him for calculus.
he's a great teacher!
SUPER HELPFUL TEACHER!! Tough class, but the instruction is AMAZING! DO YOUR HOMEWORK!He is passionate about math and it shows in his class. I hated math when I started,(this was my 3rd time taking it).He explains steps in a fun/clear manner that is understandable!I like how he wont allow you to use a calculator(I NEVER IMAGINED I WOULD SAY THAT!)
I would say, you must work hard to earn your grade. Attend class everyday b/c there is usually a quiz every day. He is funny. He likes to help students out, but make sure to ask. His office hours are the times that would be best to ask questions. 5 exams, 1 final, multiple quizzes. 5 hw packets. i believe that's it...
Mr.Schutte is the best teacher in the world! He explains very well and makes sure everyone understands. Homework is a good way to stay on track. There are about 6 exams including the final. If you pay attention, put some effort in, and actually care to learn the material; you will pass. His colored chalk is great, and Mr.Schutte is so wonderful!!!=]
i hated math in high school but he actually made me like it. study for the exams and final and you should be ok
Best math teacher at the school. Really helpful and always makes sure the info is taught in the simplest form to ensure each student can grasp it. If you can take his class.
Best teacher I have ever had. I have taken two of his classes now. One of them I had taken 4 times and failed, until I took it from him. He is ALWAYS willing to help. I usually go to the math office lobby and do homework after class then when he shows up I ask questions. TAKE HIS CLASS HE WON'T DISSAPOINT! (But remember you have to put in the work)
Prof. Schutte is an awesome professor. I have learned so much from his class because he answered all of my questions. He never treats you badly if you have a question that is out of this world, or you just don't understand. He is very passionate about math and if you really want to learn math he would be your best bet. I enjoyed taking his class.
He's really good at teaching the material. He makes sure you understand it in class so math lab is not needed. He keeps class exciting as well. His ability to explain the material made it simple. He's also accommodating to military.
Not a teacher you want if you are just there to screw around. But if you give him 16 weeks, Schutte will take you to the next level of math. This guy can teach! Best to be a few minutes early to EVERY class and dont even think about looking at your cell phone, zero tolerance for electronic gizmos. Fantastic Professor!
This guy is very logical; not a logical nerd, but a cool dude. A+B will always equal C with him. He makes very little errors that need correcting when explaining the class. He knows the importance of teaching right the first time. He is good at answering questions. Squared became "Shquirt" as a way to help remember the important detail.
Really good instructor. But difficult. Doesn't allow use of calculators.
Prof Schutte is not an "easy" professor but he is an EXCELLENT professor. He is dedicated, clear, consistent, and fair. He regularly extends office hours his students that learn at a slower pace. While class time is never wasted he does still manage to keep things lively and interesting. Highly recommend taking his course. Very handsome!
I took Prof.Schutte for Geometry. He's really interesting to listen to, really passionate about wut he's teaching. He even let me get in to his class to help me pass my assessment test for 370.I was gonna take him for 400 but too bad thing came up. I heard that he got into a car accident recently. Be well soon.Lovely professor!
Former engineer w/ a naturally perceptive eye. His teaching method impressed me; rigorous, but effective. Quizzes/exams were VERY straightforward. Offers partial credit. Only gives extra credit for correcting his typos. A bit strict, but if you take his class seriously (as you SHOULD!), you'll find that he's not so scary after all. ;) Love him!
Excellent professor who teaches from Math 34 all the way to Math 120. Knows every concept like the back of his hand. No easy A though, and definitely doesn't take BS any. He hates distractions and won't hesitate to kick you out/make a fool out of you if you are one. Show up everyday, take notes, do the work, and you will get better at math.
I have nothing but praise and accalades for Mr. Schutte. He is not an easy instructor by any means but if you put in the effort, he will make sure you learn the material. We are only halfway through the semester and I'm finding myself starting to actually like math because of the way he teaches it. Respect him and he will return the favor.
Mr. Schutte is the most helpful and easy to understand Math teacher I have ever had. Although the content is very intense, he makes sure we all understand it. I would highly recommend you take him, especially if you don't really care for math. He will help you recognize the reason you use a certain formula instead of simply memorizing.
This professor is a beast, take him if you really want to understand math. He is very helpful and will not let others put you down if you ask the simplest questions, He encourages you to ask questions.
I went into this class with reserves about math and especially about a teacher that doesn't allow any calculators but I'm coming out with a better knowledge of the concepts and an overall grasp of beginning algebra. Professor Schutte is AMAZING!
He's a hilarious teacher. He always has something witty to say. I love how he teaches the class because he gives various ways on how to complete a problem. He encourages suggestions and loves to prove that he KNOWS what you're going to ask because he's heard it all before. He always has lecture notes that are helpful. There's no pop quizzes! (:
Schutte is an incredible teacher for anyone who wants to work for it. I was referred to take his class by a friend and I sure am glad I did. He is a very intelligent man and not bad on the eyes either. ;)
Mr. Schutte is amazing math instructor! He loves what he does. He explains material very clearly, providing class with helpful tips.He always uses a class time efficiently( class is never boring!). There are 5 exams besides the final, quizzes almost every class, and 5 h/w packages. fair grader. Recommended to those who really want to understand math.
Not an easy A and not the funnest class but you WILL learn. Math has never been my strength but he has an AMAZING way of teaching. Highly recommend him. Do not dare look at your phone in class if he catches you, you will be asked to leave. other than that he is chill just come ready to learn
Professor Schutte is one of the best math professors i have had. His tests are not easy but he will make sure you will understand the lecture. i really recommend his math 400 class. Just make sure you will do all his homework and don't expect to learn after the third chapter because u will probably have problem to pass the class.
Schutte is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Prior to taking his math100 class I was so terrified of math and almost gave up on college. The way he teaches took the fear away and I ended up with an A in math100 and the following semester, and A in math120. He is great for people who lack confidence in math!
Professor Schutte is a bucket of knowledge. The Geometry class was very interesting. There is a lot of material to cover and he gives a quiz every class, twice a week. I wish he had videos available online for us to review the lecture. I study more than 15 hours per week and still got 75 average. He is helpful if you ask, but is so much material!!!
Show up, participate, work hard, do your homework, and you'll pass.
Best professor to date. classes taken with him: 34,120,GEO. dude is a genius! he should be at Yale. do the homework, go to office hours for help, sit in front, and pay attention. don't be an idiot go to class. real life examples, high energy, NO ACCENT, VERY CLEAR. he's the man.
Don't skip class more than once. Showing up is mandatory if you want to know whats going on. Quiz everyday. Quizzes force you to either do your homework or at least study before class. He makes you print the notes which saves on lecture time. Also, expect him to act goofy everyday. He's a real goon :D
Tuff but very fair;he wants to see you work for it and apply yourself;great, great teaching style and clarity in best way to approach difficult methodologies! Wish he was teaching Fall Math 120 SCC:(
Great teacher. Funny, clear and answers all questions. I would definitely recommend this teacher. His teaching style is great and he makes class enjoyable.
Mr. Schutte is a great professor. Shows several techniques for problems. Come to class with your phone off, ready to learn and laugh. I thought he was a little strict on the first day but I really would not have succeeded with out it. He makes math fun and clear and is very helpful outside of class. Would definitely take him again.
The man is a genius with a great sense of humor. Schutte is an angel sent from above to teach math students what they need to know in order to be successful in his class, as well as future classes. #ANGEL
This guy knows his stuff! he taught math in a way that made me understand. if you want to take math.. take Schutte
great teacher very interesting. Love this class.
Cool professor but highly wouldn't recommend. Expects you to know the material already and gives quizzes every day. Harsh grader for not explaining the material clearly. Also a stickler for timeliness and attendance! As soon as class starts, if you're not there you aren't allowed to take the quiz and are marked absent. PLEASE stay away!
Best teacher out there. Take him
Worst teacher i ever had, strict, doesn't help you tests and quizzes are pretty hard you will only pass if you have taken the class before. Don't recommend him, especially for math 401. The class started with 40 and ended with 14...
Mr. Schutte has so far been my favorite teacher here at scc. i am only writing because people here say avoid him..i highly disagree with that notion one of the best teachers I have met in life and really knows what he is talking about
Schutte is very strict when it comes to grading. I enjoyed having him for 34. However, I am a little scared of having him for 110 during the spring semester because he is stricter with any higher level math that he teaches. None the less, I am sure that I will enjoy him for Geometry. He does not give HW but please STUDY or else you won't pass.
Always there to help. I went into his office hours a couple of times, and he definitely does take the time to help you understand. A lot of quizzes but they help!
Very Helpful professor, but you have to really work for your grade since he is a tough grader. EXPECT tests and almost every other day quizzes. EXPECT to do homework also.
Professor Schutte is awesome! His lectures are great and kept my attention the whole time. Expect to do homework, Calc 2 is hard enough and I almost failed the class but I started doing all the homework and went to his office hours and turned my grade around. 10/10 would take again
15% quizzes, 5% on a lot of homework, 60% exams, 20% final. Schutte is tough, strict, and it is difficult to get a word in when you talk to him. He's passionate about teaching and he's the clearest professor that I've ever had. However, he is a hardass. If you want an easy professor, Schutte is not your guy. Also, absolutely no calculators.
He is very knowledgeable and entertaining. He skips steps and lectures very fast. You need to be solid in algebra if you take him, as he expects you to know it. If you take his class you better have the time to put into it. Being late or absent will affect your grade. He is available during office hours, but he will do the problem fast & skip steps
He is your typical, solid professor that gives good lectures and fair exams. Fair grader as well. He is not a personable person whatsoever, though. He does not want to get to know you as a person. Don't ask for a letter of recs from him unless you have an A in his class. But even then he probably won't write you one. Take him if you want to learn.
Prof. Schutte's lectures are great. He goes through subjects pretty rapidly but he makes each step clear and easy to understand and is always willing to pause and answer any questions during lecture. If you keep up with the HW and go to office hours, you WILL pass. He's always eager to help during office hours and grades his tests fairly.
Best math instructor I have ever had. He made his lectures very elaborate and is happy to answer questions. He does not make you feel dumb for not knowing the answer! Very respectful and always accessible outside of class. Would definitely recommend for anyone who struggles with math.
Mr Schutte is the best math professor at SCC. He makes math fun and encourages students to ask for help until they understand the concept. He's funny grades fairly. Four exams and a final . Possibly a quiz once a week. You will learn and you will pass if you are not lazy
Struggled a lot as he flies through the lectures! Although he does offer his time and help to answer any questions, I did not appreciate his exams being completely different from what he taught in class. The level of difficulty in his quizzes were doable, but his exams were extremely different from what he taught in class. Go to office hours & lab
Awesome Professor. I wish i could take him for Stats. He starts at the beginning and builds for people who tested into the course. I think is very helpful. He may seem a bit sarcastic and arrogant, but I found him absolutely hilarious, helpful, and caring. One of my very favorite professors. Go to office hours and do the homework to pass.
Very fair class policies and grading. Always available to help. He sets you up well for quizzes and exams and WANTS you to succeed. During the test you can ask him a question and we will give you helpful hints to the right answer. Lots of quizzes, but it helps you stay on track. If you show up and participate, you will pass no problem.
Professor Schütte is very knowledgeable and appears to care about helping his students pass. However, he doesn't like to be challenged and is very arrogant. He talks very fast and jumps all over the place. I passed because I remembered the material from high school, but I struggled due to the never-ending homework packets. He was cute though.
Great professor. Know his stuff and explains it clearly. He is not the easiest professor but if you just want an easy a gtfo. This is college we are here to be challenged and it should be uncomfortable.
Professor Schutte is by far one of the best professors I've had. He does move pretty fast, but at the same time, he encourages students to ask questions and is willing to slow down and go over what you don't understand. He's super helpful during office hours and he always tells you exactly what's going to be on quizzes and exams. Great professor!
If I could take this professor for every math class, I absolutely would. Wonderful teacher and person with excellent sense of humor. Outstanding lectures wherein he checks in and ensures you understand. Makes himself available to students outside of class. If you're willing to put in the time and effort, he is there to help you succeed.
He's funny so u'll get to laugh and class won't seem as dull. Demeanor is sarcastic which can come off as abrasive. Though voice and diction is clear, he speaks super fast- it can make your head spin. Like him or hate him, he'll get the job done in making sure u're learning what you need to know for future classes. Office hours are his thing.
Schutte is the Professor that made me go from saying, "I'm not a math person." To, "Holy crap, I'm a math person." I took him from Algebra 1 to Trig. Now that I'm in Calc 2, I can honestly say that he has prepared me for my upper division math classes. I'm able to breeze by with some incredible foundational skills he's given me. Incredible Prof
He's irritable, arrogant and condescending to people in class. If Math makes you frustrated, this man's demeanor will exasperate that impulse. I signed up for another proffesor who fell ill then this guy filled in. He has some great tips if you can get past his attitude, but I can't. I'd rather be educated by a Prof. with patience.
Very funny guy. He's friendly and sarcastic, which I guess can annoy some people but I was personally never bothered and he does not make jokes at other's expense. Lots of work but explains clearly. He moves very fast though so if you're a slow learner and/or get behind in work easily consider this when choosing your class.
He is humorous while some sensitive people may think it's offensive. Great lecture. His lecture and note contain everything you need ,so it's not necessary for you to read book by yourself. in general, he is a math teacher who behave like a math teacher instead of a English teacher or a kindergartener.
Strict. can be nice sometimes. goes over everything in the book and will make you know them whether it will be relevant in future classes or not. follows the same organization from previous classes with zero for tardiness, many quizzes, D2l notes. if taken before, expect similarities in future classes.
If you've taken classes at Univ, u'll know that attendance, lateness, and homework isn't a problem as long you pass the tests. If you're more an independent learner, teaching style may not be for you because rules will count for or against u. If you need help with math often, teaching style will be of value. Still, lots of rules.
He is a nice professor. If math is your weakest subject it will get hard, so listen carefully, ask questions, take good notes, and study hard because the exams are challenging if you don't know the lessons. The exams are a high percentage of your grade, so keep that in mind. Overall he isn't a bad professor and he helps those who need it.
best math prof i have had by far! clear instructions and incredibly easy to follow while he is lecturing
Super tough, but definitely learned the material. He lectures very clearly, hilarious, covers the all the material, and his exams are very challenging. If you're taking calculus with him, you'll definitely learn calculus. I recommend doing readings and the hw before class.
He's a great professor. He's funny in a subtle way. He is ALWAYS open for questions. His lectures are very easy to understand. Really light character and very encouraging. Homework is harder than the tests he gives, so don't worry :) HE IS AWESOME TAKE HIM. My first year of college and I would take him for all math related stuff if i could.
Schutte filled in for my class when my Prof had to leave due to medical issues. Though he is strict on certain policies: phones, no calcs, being late etc it makes sense b/c he just wants respect. His teaching methods are precise and thorough. For someone who hates math I truly understood him and he was very open to helping! Could've got an A!
He helped me fall in love with math. I appreciated hes sincerity of teaching.
Pretty straightforward course. You will be your worst enemy in this course. Questions are very error-prone (as Schutte manifests every lecture :)), so make sure you do a lot of practice.
Mr. Shutte is the best math professor i have taken at los rios. he is very sarcastic and literal, but i think thats what made him so likeable. he will do whatever he can to help you pass, as long as you take his help. lots of homework packets and quizzes.
Hes the best math professor I've ever had and makes learning math fun. What more do you want? Take him and you won't regret it.
It could be that my learning style just wasn't in sync with his teaching style but I would not recommend this instructor to take for Math. He is not an easy person to pay attention to and he is a fast talker who pounds you with too much information that you completely forget what you are supposed to learn. There is also too much to remember.
Do you hate maths??? I also did but Ive started loving it now and the credit goes to professor Matthew Schutte. He is the most sincere instructor Ive ever seen. Once you take his class, you want to take every other maths class with him. His lectures are so easy that they go straight into your brain. Hats off to his teaching style...
You can tell Schutte cares a lot and tries to be very likable, but sometimes his sarcasm can rub people the wrong way. He's very detail-oriented, and at times, a bit particular. However, his lectures are pretty easy to follow.
Very clear and up front with expectations, I just didn't click with his teaching style. Attendance was mandatory and he would talk about dropping students all the time which got annoying. It felt like I was in high school again with his in-class rules. Very particular when grading quizzes and exams. Homework is due at exam.
Professor Schuette is AMAZING! Great teacher, very thorough, willing to help. I took his summer Math 34 class and was blown away by his teaching method that was simple yet effective. I would strongly recommend him.
Professor Schutte is pretty fun and seems like a cool instructor. The problem was his teaching method didnt click with me, I spent most of the semester completely lost until I had to drop. He enjoys having the class participate in the lectures and thats probably why I couldnt follow, there were too many student input, which made it confusing.
Took him for Math 401 and 420. Excellent professor but really puts you to work. His organized lectures clearly get topics across, and if you have the common sense to glance over the textbook before the subject is lectured, it will GREATLY put you ahead of the curve. Hw was heavy in 401, but fairly light in 420. Exams require a lot of prep
In my humble opinion Schutte, is an awesome teacher! Personally I would rank him with the same high caliber as Professor N. Dale. Having had both of these professors myself. Schutte is very accessible, and a no nonsense teacher. He tells it to you straight/ directly. Some people may find that intimidating, but I think it's better to keep it real.
Took him for Math 100 and did not do well at all. Had tutoring (including private tutoring), did all the homework, asked questions, etc. and still failed. Teaching style must not have clicked and made things very confusing and difficult to understand. Would definitely not recommend taking this professor. Make sure to study and do all the homework!
I have alsways had bad math teachers so he was pretty good to me! I am not good at math but I paid attention, did all my homework and practiced all the problems in the chapters scheduled for the exams and passed with a B. You can do it too! He is available for office hours and dislikes when people dont come to class/leave early so attend all!
Professor Schutte gave amazing lectures. His schedule for the semester is pretty straight forward. Hands down the best math professor at SCC. I really appreciate how he interacts with the classroom. As long as you put the effort to want to learn the material, he will go above and beyond to help you. Do the homework and STUDY!!
Professor Schutte is a tough instructor but well worth it. He is excellent at engaging the class, and very encouraging. I learned a lot but had to work hard for it. He does have a bit of sarcastic humour but he is very invested in his students. He keeps daily office hours and goes out of his way to help you succeed in his class.
Best Professor, he will train you for real world. If ready to learn, choose to be strong in math you get the right professor and you will learn a lot . If you are looking for an easy "A" you are in the wrong place. Good Luck.
if you struggle with algebra and trig, this class will be hard for you. You will need to put in the work each week and make sure you are caught up with homework. In Math 400, each problem is 85% algebra and/ or trig and 15% calculus. He makes you work for it. Overall, a great professor that will prepare you for calculus in the future.
Pros: EXTREMELY fair grader, partial credit where credit is due; High Quality Lectures, I have taken 5 different professors over the course of my mathematics in College, He is the Best; Knowledgeable, not a single question he can't Answer. Cons: YOU MUST know your previous class' material to be successful; He is intimidating, but hilarious.
Schutte is a great lecturer. He knows his stuff and keeps you engaged. All positives end there. His tests are pretty difficult, but the real challenge is how harsh of a grader he is, and since the majority of your grade is based on your exams, don't count on getting an A in his class, no matter your effort of how well you know the material.
A lot of people on here are clearly upset because they didnt pay attention in class. He covers everything on the exams in class, making sure he leaves discussion time if anyone isnt grasping the information covered. Just remember that this is a college class, you wont be able to zone off because the textbook is only for reference material.
I won't say much. Schute is the best.
If you're here looking for a serious math class, he is the one for you. Quizzes sometimes are voted in class later in the semester. Assignments are due on exam days so that's fair. He gives you time. Pay attention, take notes, ask a question, and you'll eventually understand. Don't bother being in that class if you're not serious.
I took professor Schutte In the spring semester of 2019 and he was awful and horrible as teacher, because he doesnt uses the book and says he doesnt believe the book, so he makes his own notes for the class and also says he really smart because he has two degree in engineering but his way of math is so confusing and doesnt make no sense.
Schutte is a funny teacher, pay attention to his lecture note. Tests are heavy, but his lectures are quite clear. Some people may think he teaches so fast, so don't be afraid to ask him with any confusion.
I took him for Math 110, fall 2018. His lectures are long and sometimes he can be a bit confusing while explaining some concepts. He did not let you use a calculator until the very end of the semester. I would not take him again.
Professor Schutte was the kind of teacher that could make a subject like calculus bearable. He is very funny and knowledgeable on what he teaches and is willing to help you if you ever need it. I am not going to sugarcoat it; calculus is not easy, but having Schutte teach it made it much easier to understand. He is fair in his grading criteria.
I took Schutte in spring 2019 and honestly he was the best professor I've had. Yes, he gives out tons of home work and the tests are hard but he always gives you time during class to study with your classmates days before the tests and always has study guides. I almost failed his class due to personal issues but he truly cares and wants you to pass
I've always been horrible at math, and this class was no exception. I cried many a tear over this course. I think I even threw up one day from finals stress. But Schutte was extremely caring, had many tutoring opportunities, and I'd probably ask him to adopt me if he could.
Professor Schutte has been my favorite Math teacher . Ive always enjoyed math but he definitely made me work hard. He truly wants you to succeed and will spend time with you in office hours to help you with problems and such. Hilarious guy, long lectures educational but fun. Gives quizes and tests, no surprises but def have to study well Recomend!
A nice man, always explain math definition and show work to students. Class are not easy so have to do HW and review sheet. 4 exams 1 final and no answers on review sheet, exams are easier than HW and review, finals are hard. In overall, you should take him to prepare for math.
Wow what an amazing semester with a Professor who is striving to continue his mathematics journey in life. He is terrific, you will not find someone who pushes you to your limit like Professor Schutte. He may seem intimidating at first but he truly cares and wants you to succeed in the class. Your grade reflects your effort put in! Be ready to work
Passionate professor who really wants all his students to learn/pass. Dropped this class due to its fast paced curriculum that I really couldn't keep up with (Don't take this class during the summer if you struggle with math 50% of the time). Graded only by quizzes/exams. No HW assignments, but really theres HW that just isn't graded, but will help
I am so glad that I took Calculus with Professor Schutte. He made the class really entertaining and his lectures were very organized and easy to follow. He is also very approachable, caring, and funny. I would definitely take another class with him and highly recommend you to take his class.
I took his class base on the these reviews. I would not recommend taking him. He is a tough grader with plenty of trick questions on his quizzes/tests. They are hard enough too. Beware they are not online your write them out and upload them. The lecture are soooooo boring and hard to fallow. I wouldnt recommend this course either.
I loved the teacher, he's wonderful and very funny, but his class is beyond difficult. You are only graded off tests, quizzes, and exams. The exams are EXTREMELY hard and he includes a lot of long/difficult questions. Homework is not graded but you won't understand anything if you don't do it. Hilarious, wonderful teacher, but super difficult.
Calculus is already a difficult subject. He unfortunately made things more confusing and often over complicated concepts that I believe could have been simplified. The lectures could've had more focus and organization and curriculum needs more structure. I Withdrew in the end. Very passionate about mathematics at best; intimidating at worst.
Really hard professor with unnecessarily hard exams. Studied his study guide to bits and still had to face longer questions on his exams for no reason. Hard grader. Pick another.
Prof. Schutte was a great teacher! I loved his lectures because they were engaging and he was very funny. Most of the grade is in the tests that you take and they are pretty hard. The homework is optional but it helped me learn the material for the tests. He's great for people who are continuing in math because he makes you learn the material.
you have to put the effort
Great teacher for calc if you're heading into medicine. In no way it was an easy class, but I believe everything was fair game. Lectures were engaging and your grade solely depends on exam/quiz scores. Exams were challenging but as long as you put in the work you'll be fine. My advice: have a sense of humor before heading into his classroom :)
What an amazing professor. He's super tough and wants you to learn the material, but if you are willing to work hard, success guaranteed. So accessible outside of class and willing to talk through a problem several times until you get it. His lectures are engaging and fun. Hardest class of my life, but would take him again hands-down.
Man I took his Summer Calc1 course and shee is it stressful and a lot of work. Hw is optional but I had to do it for practice. He is there for you to learn. He teaches soo great and you won't asleep either. His questions are 100% hard but its out of the book. Take him if you want to learn calc and want to challenge yourself. I am taking him again.
I took his MATH 400 class for the summer of 2022 and it was a lot of work and content to go through, but he has great lectures in class and answers questions very thoroughly. He drops low quiz scores and has different grading options for the summer course. I would take him again for MATH 401 but doesn't fit my schedule.
He is a tough teacher, if you will not do the work you will NOT pass. If you skip class it is hard to keep up. His lectures are engaging and beware the bees! He grades things in a timely manner and do not be surprised if half of your class is gone by the end of the year. He explains things extremely well and is available for office hours.
Intimidating at first , but he is funny. His lectures are very throughout. He is fair with grading. He gives partial credit. He is on top of responding and grading. Answers question thoroughly thru email in class and office hours. Office hours is like tutoring with him..I recommend it, watch lectures on time, & do suggested hw. Great at teaching !
Take Prof Schutte if you get the chance! He is a very fair grader and is clear about what is expected. Calc 2 is not easy by any stretch but if you put in effort you can do well in this class. Lectures are great and he is always ready to answer questions if you need clarification. Schutte is the best
Despite the fast paced course over the summer, he took the time to thoroughly explain concepts and answer questions! He gave us 2 choices on whether we wanted to have homework be graded or not. Even if you do not turn in your hw, make sure you practice everyday as his exams and final are pretty tough. Quizzes are taken and submitted online
Mr. Schutte is incred at explaining step by step. He does his part in teaching clearly, bein timely, and accessible by email&office hours. He makes hw optional. I find math hard & scary at so Im happy I took his class because of how he explains things. If It weren't for his teaching & I didnt do my part & put in a gr8 effort I wouldnt have passed
His lectures convey the material well and anything you do not understand in class he is more than willing to go over in his office hours. He grades his tests fairly and gives detailed feedback on them as well. He also responds to any messages sent to him within a day. If I could have taken calculus 1 and 3 with him as well I would have.
Prof Schutte has great lectures and his quizzes and exams are challenging but really make you learn the material. He is very willing to help you improve and there is a reason his office hours are always popular. Very funny and engaging. One of the best professor I have ever had.
Would not take this class again. Professor offers no extra help other than some long winded emails. He often misinterprets emails and unless you are a math major his class is near impossible to pass. The work load is soley based on tests and if you do poor on them well you are just about done for. Never had a professor this poor at sac city.
Professor Schutte teaches well and likes to sprinkle humor in his lectures. His humor can be harsh, but he clearly cares about his students and their success. He is a very fair grader and his exams are easy if you pay attention in class. While participation is not required, it is very beneficial for your learning. He is happy to answer questions.
Amazing professor! Took his class as an 8 week and it was well-paced with weekly online quizzes, 1 midterm, and 1 final. Offered multiple grading criteria. Made learning mathematics during summer break fun with his constant humor! Open to communication (easy to communicate over email too!) and is very understanding.
His lectures are pretty good, but I wish he focused more on doing problems and showing a more diverse range of problems. As a professor, he can be pretty blunt and rude and has dry humour that can get annoying. His tests are fairly difficult and is pretty strict on grading. He often goes off book which can be a hit or miss for some students.
Schutte had really fun lectures and HW was not that bad. I honestly really enjoyed the class. The problem was quizzes and exams were insanely difficult. He is pretty open about his class weeding out people who struggle, instead of bringing them up to speed. I was sad to drop the class cuz I needed it for my major, but those tests were too brutal.
As a teacher, he is fine and explains theories fairly well but doesn't do enough variety in practice problems needed for the course. In Calc 2 I realized he hyperfocused on certain areas and lacked in many others. Also, his passive aggressiveness, ego, and bragging attitude about the difficulty of passing his class are insufferable to deal with.
Schutte is a good professor and he does a really great job on explaining the topics he presents to the class. He's very supportive and answers any questions in class or in office hours. However, the exams in this class are difficult and the best advice I can give include doing to the optional hw and master each topic he presents.
Great professor. Super funny and an amazing teacher. Gives 5% grade boost if you do all the HW but you don't have to. Tests are hard b/c its Calc 2 but not terrible and he prepares you for tests well. Amazing guy and honestly very nice. Class votes on whether to have quizzes and they're take-home. Don't be late though and don't be on your phone.
Professor Schutte is one of the best mathematics professors at Los Rios. I took his 2022 summer 8-week course. He will go above and beyond explaining the material and inspire you to dig deeper into the subject. He explains concepts in multiple ways along with the history of their creation. His office hours are very beneficial.
Very witty and shrewd professor! He is awesome, can tell when students are confused, and makes them ask questions. The lectures were fun. Drops your lowest quiz score. Overall he did not make the class harder than it needed to be. Five stars
Best prof. Explain every single thing in details. If you really want to learn calculus take him.
Professor Schutte has an engaging teaching style, but the course can be quite challenging. Staying on top of the work, practicing regularly using resources like Unstuck AI, and attending office hours are key to succeeding. The content is rewarding if you're willing to put in the effort.
Best professor I have ever taken, I went from not knowing and hating anything math related to loving and being good at calculus. He's a very nice professor, his exams are very difficult and he's a tough grader, but if you really pay attention, you'll realize those exams are actually not so bad. Just gotta pay attention!!!
took 8-week summer, one of the best professors ever had. witty sarcasm! really takes the time to understand student and their questions. available and readily updates! idk why ppl say tough grader or that his exams are hard. problems always like hw, never got random problems never seen before like other profs. also most "forgiving" grader ever had.
Such a funny and kind professor. He likes to teach and help students unlike most professors.
He is funny and passive-aggressive. He makes calculus EXTREMELY and UNNECESSARILY HARD, which is not okay. You can spend the whole week working on his study guide and still end up with a D on the exam
He is flexible and awesome.
I appreciate the effort, energy, humor, and honesty he brings to his lectures. I can see how some would find his personality intense. But I see it as him cutting the bs and treating us like adults in a college level math class. He is a great math professor, always appreciates questions, and I hope I can take more classes with him.
