He is great!
He's a great professor, he is very understanding and kind. He cares about his students and the information is very interesting. You get extra credit if you participate on certain questions and class is enjoyable. Workload isn't bad at all. I'd definitely take this class/ a class with him again.
Connects well with students and Helps students with lengthy due dates!
Great insightful course.
I would say the course is a bit disorganized but overall pretty laid back and interesting. Make sure if you miss class , you keep up with attendance.
Matt is the best professor I've ever had. He's very easy to reach and is very accommodating and understanding. He teaches his class with a lot of enthusiasm and the material he teaches is very easy to understand. It's the least stressful class I've ever taken and I would 100% take any class Matt teaches!
No thanks
He is one of my favorite professors! He actually cares about his students opinions and tries to get everyone to actively participate. The course work is extremely fair and the only way to fail this course is to not show up or not do the work.
Mr. Schwartz was easily my favorite professor this semester. He is very enthusiastic and you can tell that he cares about his students as well as the material in the course. The class was low stress and there was plenty of opportunities for extra credit.
I think Professor Schwartz is one of the most caring instructors at UB. He constantly asking us how we are, and he just really cares about us personally.
I think Professor Schwartz is a one of a kind professor. If you are looking for a class to take at UB take one of his.
he is by far my favorite professor at Ub. He genuinely cares about his students and constantly asks us about how we are doing.
I loved taking this class really made me think about how social media can impact certain aspects of our lives.
I loved this class I recommend it to anyone who needs something to take.
One of the kindest and most understanding professor's at UB . Truly teaches his students about the aspects of social media that are important in our lives that we often overlook.
Very understanding and makes the course very interesting
Super chill guy. He's lenient with due dates which is nice and is super understanding. 10/10 great guy.
A great and interesting course and an awesome Professor. Super nice and always willing to reach out and help anyone in need. Very understanding of circumstances and situations and will help you directly with any trouble you are having in the course.
This class was relatively easy as the notes were presented well. Lots of online and group work.
Matt did a good job of being excited about what he was teaching. I appreciated how much he wanted each of his students to succeed. The workload is okay and he is super flexible with his due dates so that you can do good work which is cool.
Matt is a great professor and makes the social work material super interesting! I enjoyed taking the class. The work is straightforward and Matt is super approachable.
Good professor. Lot of group work and interesting topics, but I do feel like a lot of the time in class was filler and didn't really apply to the course.
He is very transparent and tells you what he wants from you. He isn't super demanding and is geniunely a very open and cool person. He is super understanding and acts like a real person. Some proffessors that I have are like robots, i'm glad to say he isn't one of them. He really cares about his job which is great for us.
Great professor, who was very enthusiastic and exited about what he was teaching. He presented a lot of interesting information, and class was never boring. classwork was very reasonable, and he was very understanding.
He is very passionate about what he teaches. The assignments are really helpful, and not too difficult. The deadline/submission policy is very lenient as well! I would definitely recommend this class.
If you show up to class and participate you will do well. There are assignments throughout the semester which are very doable but overall the class was good!
Respectful professor. One big group project and assignments along the way all due on the last day of class.
Matt is amazing! Easy class if you attend class and do the work there is. Grow up, this is college, every class has work. There is a group project that is just fun and easy because no one wants to fail Matt! Class is also hybrid.Tons of extra credit opportunities. Most importantly, the class is just fun and very informative! Hi Matt! This is Sheed!
Matthew has been a good instructor for SW150. It was an online course where we learned about the implication and power that social media has on social issues. He teaches in a variety of ways, including videos, lectures, group discussions, and asynchronous work days. My major has nothing to do with social work, but I enjoyed it regardless. Recommend
Matt is great. He is very understanding, not to say that there isn't some work to be done. There is a group project which can be fun. Overall the material is super interesting and this class is definitely different from any other class you will take. Highly recommend .
Great professor, super friendly guy.
Good teacher. Gives many opportunities to fix your grades. Wonderful teacher would take again
the professor was amazing in the way he taught the class and the way that he allowed for participation.
A really good professor that really cares from his students and doesn't give too much work.
cool person and teacher. cares about his students outside and inside of the classroom via kanye speller
Matthew Schwartz is an excellent teacher. This class is super entertaining and the material is valuable knowledge.
Overall a fairly easy and helpful course!
This professor has no deadlines for assignments technically and gives a lot of room for extra credit.
Matthew Schwartz is a great instructor, he is patient and very lenient with students. As long as you participate in class, complete your discussion boards and participate in the group assignment, you will receive a good grade. Overall, I would definitely recommend taking this class with him!
Great professor. Is passionate about topics. Lectures are very engaging.
course is a little unorganized but professor is caring and understanding, he wants you to do well. Show up and participate in zooms and grade will be fine. Work is manageable
This course is offered as a pathway so if you have the option to take his class as a pathway do so to help yourself. This course is an easy A, just show up to class because it's 60% of your grade and participate. Do those two things along with easy discussion board home works and you'll be fine. Also... READ THE SYLLABUS!!!
I'm really happy that I chose to enroll in this course this semester; the instructor is wonderful and understanding, and he made the class a lot of fun. If you want a laid-back, considerate instructor, I definitely suggest taking him!
LOVE HIM. Take him if you want to actually enjoy class and learn something as well
He was genuinely one of my favorite professors this semester! I went through a lot of rough patches throughout the semester but he was extremely accommodating and understanding through all of it! Highly recommend taking a class taught by Matt!
Great professor. Very engaging and understanding.
If you have a chance to take this course and want to learn more about how Social Media works this is a great class to take!
Professor is fair and was easy to work with.
He was very easy going and seemed to actually care about his students.
Professor Schwartz is an extremely understanding person. He respect his students and truly cares about what he is teaching. He provides many discussion board posts and you have up to the ending of the semester to submit for full credit! There is also 1 big group assignment as well as a quick individual project.
As a professor, he was good and passionate about what he was teaching. The coursework was fair. If you are looking for an interesting light elective this class is the way to go.
This class was super interesting and the professor cares about helping his students with their class project and any questions they may have.
Dr. Matt was very informed on a variety of topics! I enjoyed his lectures and the interesting documentaries we watched.
Very nice professor, but if you need to look back on notes or powerpoints there are none
Dr. Matt cares a lot about policy. However, he does not have PowerPoints (which he does not believe are effective) and reads off of his notes for the lecture part. It would be fine if he slowed down and really elaborated on the content, but he reads so quickly that I feel like I missed a lot. Also, he does not give great feedback on assignments.
He helps you think outside the box and put your best foot forward.
Dr. Matt is very kind and patient. The class was separated into policy and then history for the first and second part of class. The first is group discussion and student led, and the second half is lecture based. Dr. Matt does not use powerpoints or lecture outlines, and lectures by simply speaking at the class.
Sometimes can get a little rapid in lecturing; will slow down/repeat if you request. Flexible and understanding when it comes to assignments and classes which is helpful when it comes to paper re-writes. Would recommend taking a theory or policy course!
Grade time was slow and feedback was overall unhelpful. Great guy and interesting class. Dr. Schwartz is passionate for this field and this course.
Dr. Matt is very passionate about policy! You will learn if you like lecture-styled courses. He is fairly critical on grading papers, make sure you follow the instructions very closely.
Dr. Matt is knowledgeable and passionate about the topic The policy salon is great! He is understanding and allows for rewrites. Instructions for the essays are mostly clear and the readings are not heavy, but informative. Sometimes I wish there were visuals like the topics that will be discussed in class on a slide so that I can properly follow.
Overall he is a good professor, really cares about the course material and students. The course content is very interesting and relevant. It took a while to get back feedback on papers, which made it harder to prepare for the next assignments. He is a stickler for APA format, so it is easy to lose points if you aren't careful with your formatting.
Lectures are not typical presentation format they are verbal only. He provides a lot of experience and insight to the SW field. Would recommend!
Dr. Matt cares about his students and the material he lectures on. His lectures are clear and to the point and class often involves a group activity. He doesn't use powerpoints for his lectures so be prepared to take written notes. I enjoyed class with Dr. Matt and if you go to class, participate, and do the required readings you will do just fine!
Dr. Matt fills the role of a graduate school instructor well. He is confident, knowledgeable, open for feedback, and engaging. His class requires a fair amount of reading and writing, but the paper topics are quite interesting. I will note, Dr. Matt can lecture too quickly and does not use Power Point slides, which may be challenging for some.
Dr. Matt does not use powerpoint or any visual aids while lecturing. His lectures are engaging, educational, and useful, but it can be difficult to stay focused when there are no lecture notes or PowerPoint to follow or go off of.
Overall he is a great professor and I was able to learn a lot from this course; however, how much of it is entirely related to what the course is supposed to be about is questionable. He is a slow grader and feedback has not been most beneficial. There are tons of reading, peer teaching, and in-class activities involved and attendance is mandatory
Schwartz is very understanding if you are a genuine student. Class discussion is important but in the way that active listening is just as important as actually speaking.
Dr. Matt is awesome! He made everyone feel welcome when we walked into the classroom. His lectures were spoken, with no PowerPoint, which scared me at first. You get used to it and he can make his lectures interesting and enjoyable. The grade for the class heavily relies on only two papers which is a little scary, but the papers were pretty fair.
This has been an enjoyable class, Dr.Matt is knowledgeable and comes to class with a positive attitude. I do wish that there were PowerPoints or an increase in visual aids but overall I do feel like I have learned a lot in this class and I would take another class with them again.
Dr. Matt is focused on the success of his students. This class involved a lot of in-class discussions and lecture content. Lecture content presented was a bit different as he does not use PowerPoint slides and he likes to incorporate different learning styles, but this made the course all the more valuable in my opinion.
Dr. Matt provided detailed information on the material required for class and had clear expectations. If you follow assignment guidelines, participate, and read the provided material, the class is easy and engaging. I genuinely enjoyed this class and learned from the lectures. Dr. Matt cares about his students and their success!
Dr. Matt is extremely knowledgeable in Social Work. He is extremely compassionate and personable and is willing to work with students who may need some extra support. The only downside is that he does not use PowerPoint or any other form of visual aids which would have been incredibly beneficial to the lectures in my opinion. Overall, a great prof.
Dr.Matt had a lot of insightful experience to share with the class. He made me feel welcome and he was okay at responding to emails. Overall, it was a good class and I would take him again in the future.
Dr Matt is a joy to listen to, and ties in diverse, interesting and useful information. However, the lack of regular graded assignments that are returned promptly can leave a student not fully understanding the content of the course. He is a very positive and caring person.
Dr.Matt was very insightful and provided a lot of experience within his own professional career. Additionally, he made everyone feel welcome and I would take him again.
He was understanding; you just have to be brave enough to speak for yourself. He will give extensions if you are feeling overwhelmed and offers quite a lot of extra credit. He also counts attendance.
Straight forward with expectations for assignments. Follow the syllabus and assignment rubrics and you'll be able to successfully complete assignments and get a good grade. Be sure to participate!
Dr.Schwartz is great! This class is online and attendance is mandatory for every Zoom class. Your cameras must be on to get the attendance and participation credit. Speaking in this class is easy, he makes everyone's thoughts and opinions feel welcome at all times. The workload is pretty moderate.
Professor Schwartz does a great job at teaching via zoom/online. Definitely worth taking one of his classes for credit.
This professor is really amazing! The entire class is based off discussion boards that are pretty easy and a group project. The professor also gives multiple extra credit opportunities! I would definitely recommend this professor if you're looking to get into Social Work!
Dr. Matt was extremely passionate within this course. The expectations were easily understood with attendance being mandatory, along with participation. Course consisted of discussion posts, one group project, 1-2 short paper summaries, and a case study.
Easy course layout and workload. Clear with assignment instructions and due dates, gives you plenty of time. Camera has to be on during class, will not make exceptions. Takes off points for each missed lecture/each time you do not have your camera on. Overall pretty easygoing and decent class to take. Content is very relevant.
Dr. Matt was very understanding and helpful. you must attend class and be ready to participate. The assignments given are reasonable.
Very interesting class with useful content
Overall, Dr. Matt is a good prof and the class was good. You have a few discussion boards throughout the semester, one assignment and a group project that lasts the entire duration of the course. I found the work was pretty doable especially compared to other classes. Only down side is communication with prof was difficult at times (via email).
The workload is very minimal and when it comes to grading it is very generous.
This professor is amazing! Work is not difficult. No tests or quizzes. Overall an amazing professor, cares about you and mental health.
The workload is very minimal and the grading is very generous.
this class is online and pretty easy. I would say easy A if you just do the work.
This class was pretty easy. All you have to do is pay attention during zoom and do the assignments and you will get an A.
Great prof and super interesting topics! One group project, one individual project, and a few discussion boards. No tests.
Dr. Matt's course teaches students how to critically think like a social worker online when advocating for change. Through lectures, documentaries, and guest lecturers, he offers a course that anybody can take regardless of their major. If you wish to learn how social media operates and what you can do it about it, this is the class for you.
