I grew to love Shelly. He was very excited about chem and made it easy to understand. Demos every Friday were great. There were clickers, but he gave you the answers and you only have to get 80% correct to get full credit, so you really only HAVE to show up 80% of the time. The tests are difficult (50-60 averages), but the curve helps a lot.
Gives big curves on tests and at the end of the semester. He's really passionate about chemistry and you can tell by the way he teaches. He does cool demos and gets really excited. Lots of OWL homework. You have to read the book for the tests.
not easy as you think for a new professor. seems to make hw due before he finishes teach whats on them. gives really nice curves to make up for the lack of well teaching. if you are a visual person choose him, he loves his demos & videos!
Sheldon is just adorable and always excited about chemistry. I enjoyed working with him although his class was very tough I feel like he was a very helpful teacher. You need your book and to take many notes but overall if you go to office ours you should be safe. He give niiiiiiice curves!
He seems like a really nice guy and he's very interested in chemistry. His tests were tough but were extremely curved.
I took him for Chem 101 and absolutely loved him. He was very interested in the success of his students and gave great curves. The tests were tough but I went to 4.0 and Go and did just fine. I would definitely recommend him. He seemed like such a sweetheart.
Great guy, but a decent professor, probably because it is his first year teaching here. Very generous with his curves on tests, because the tests were very difficult. If you really pay attention in class and don't to miss class you should be fine to pull of an 'A,' but just because he is a nice professor, its not an easy class.
Dr. Sheldon was a great professor. His passionate in teaching Chemistry really helped me understand the material. Also, he loves to do demos where he performs cool experiments RELATED to chemical principles taught in class. Although his tests were EXTREMELY hard, his curves are pretty significant. Overall, I would strongly recommend him.
Very passionate and knew a lot about Chemistry but being a new teacher, didn't know how to relay the information. Made lecture fun with demos periodically. Although the tests had 50-60 averages, he made up for it with a large curve (77-100 was an A). I would definitely recommend him again!
His tests are difficult, and the homework that was due often went farther than what he was lecturing about. His tests are curved a lot! He seems like a bit of a push over. He did some cool demos. I enjoyed his class because he was really enthusiastic but I would not choose him for a prof again.
His lectures help a lot with understanding book material. Part of the grade is participation. Difficult tests but there is an end of the semester curve.
He's super enthusiastic about chemistry and tries to make it interesting with lots of demos. He was a bit of a push over and definitely took into consideration that we have lives outside of class. He's not too bad on tests and gives lots of curves. I would take him again.
Tests are so hard. Study, study, study & study some more.
First he gave horrible test that had nothing to do with the topic, so he would curve the class significantly. He had a few errors in the tests themselves that I pointed out and he refused to give me points back. Tests come out of nothing he taught or the online hw and when you ask what to study he said look in the book for practice problems. avoid
he loves what he does and genuinely cares that you learn and enjoy it. He does awesome demos and works out tough problems to help you prepare for the exams (which are not tough if you put in the effort). He uses OWL for homework and they can be pretty lengthy but they are the best way to study and you get 10 chances per question for full credit
Funny guy, and knows chemistry. I can still long enough to focus on chem, but he is a good teacher. He was very fair, and cares alot about the students
Difficult class. Sheldon was not helpful whatsoever when I went to his office hours. I think he is too smart to be teaching an intro level class. The tests were way harder than lecture material, and once he included a chapter on a test that he specifically said would not be on it. Fun guy, just not a very good teacher
Sheldon was great! He's very passionate about chemistry, and actually cares that we understand the concepts he is teaching. Very funny and quirky dude. Tests were 25Q multiple choice (final was 40), and could be tricky. He put his slides online. Go to class everyday, do the homework, read the book, and you won't have too much trouble making an A.
Dr. Sheldon was a super nice guy, but way too smart to be teaching Chem 101. You can tell he's very passionate about Chemistry but it was always difficult for me to understand the concepts he was teaching. I had to go to outside tutoring. The homework sucks and takes forever but it helps drive home the material. The curve was pretty significant.
Dr. Sheldon was an amazing guy that wants all his students to pass. He showed a lot of demos throughout the course. He uses OWL for homework, and they can be very long. The 2 exams were not all that hard, as long as you understand the concepts. He does curve, and gives clicker questions which can hep your grade.
Dr. Sheldon was very passionate about chemistry. He curved really well when he felt that the test was unfair and the distribution was low. There were a lot of OWL homeworks to do and the exams were pretty difficult. He often had funny pictures in his lectures.
I never had test anxiety until I took this class - the tests were generally fair but very tricky. Do not underestimate the problems on his tests. Other than that, Dr. Sheldon taught some things very well and helped us understand the fundamental concepts of chemistry. My OWL HWs averaged 10-12 hours - very long. Don't procrastinate + you'll be good.
The dude is sassy. He makes the tests hard, and half the time they're so different than the lecture that it doesn't make sense. Go to outside tutoring, even though the profs hate it. He will mess up in class, and get mad if someone challenges him about it. Really hard class, but its Chem at TAMU, so what can you expect? Take a diff prof if you can.
Sheldon is a great professor and you can tell that he is extremely passionate about chemistry. He gets sidetracked easily, but some of the visuals that he uses are very helpful. He curves well and is just when grading. His lectures can be all over the place but will take time to work problems with the class.
Sheldon is a great guy and genuinely cares about his students but isn't too great of a lecturer or teacher. The tests are extremely hard and stressful, and require a lot of studying. GO TO 4.0 THE NIGHT BEFORE THE TEST.
You can tell he's extremely passionate about chem, but it's to the point where he shouldn't be teaching intro chemistry. He explains concepts very fast and isn't very thorough. Also, his tests are extremely hard. He says studying the homework will be best for the test, but it's so different and so much harder. Not an easy course.
Two tests and a final. Extremely difficult exams. He explains concepts in an elementary way and then expects you to perform at an intense level during exams. Final was a curve ball. Please save your grade and take with someone else.
He is too smart for his own good. He has no idea how to explain at a level students can understand. It is always a lot of information given in a small amount of time not well explained. He sounds like he is speaking in another language with the chemistry terms he uses frequently. You can tell that he is very passionate about chemistry.
Worst professor i've ever had. He talks more about the history of chemistry than chemistry. Does not get you ready for test. Does not curve and misses class a lot and gets a sub without telling you. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!! I have learned nothing.
His class is very test heavy with two tests and a final exam worth two test grades. There was a lot of homework but it was not difficult to figure out. Make sure you go over the examples he shows in class and review the homework and end of chapter questions and you should do good. He also ended up curving a good amount.
Sheldon is a genius but doesn't teach well. He does example problems, but they really just go over the basic concepts of the topic, then the exam questions are so much harder its ridiculous. Lectures are hard to follow, focuses on stuff you don't need to know like chem history. Go to tutoring a lot or take someone else to get a decent grade.
Sheldon was an ok professor for a difficult class. The lectures were not always easy to understand, but he was passionate about what he taught. There is a LOT of homework (especially with the lab). iClicker questions are the only reason to go to class if you can teach yourself well. He was pretty rude to students who needed help outside of class.
Professor Sheldon is honesty such a fantastic professor. He really cares for his students and it shows. The class itself is difficult but he really just wants to see everyone succeed and will work to make sure that you do well. Just be respectful and put effort into the class. It's college now, not high school.
KING!!! he is amazing
Love Matt! Hes really the best and he truly cares for his students and their success. The class work is difficult, but he understands that and does everything he can to help you succeed and not stress. Ignore the bad reviews, everyone in my class loves Matt.
Great at explaining what is happening. Will stop to answer questions. Homework that is assigned is directly related to lectures/quizzes.
I honestly can't see how prof Sheldon has such a low rating. He deserves a 5* for his overall teaching skills. He is amazing!
Prof. Sheldon is an absolute gem for chemistry. It's obvious that he loves chemistry and loves it when his students understand it. He's made the transition to online classes almost perfectly, and his lectures have plenty of energy and excitement even when he's fighting Zoom, PowerPoint, or eCampus. Truly an amazing professor!
He responds well to students and always tries to make sure that no one is lost in his class of 600+ students.
Sheldon is an amazing man that definitely loves to teach chemistry. He knows so much about it and is always happy to answer questions. The class is very fats paced, and many times I definitely was left behind, especially because there was only 50 minutes per class for him to teach. I highly recommend taking him, his class is just very difficult.
I have never seen a man as caring and passionate about science and chemistry than Professor Sheldon. When I go to his lecture, I just have the feeling of wanting to learn.
His lectures are fast-paced but clear. Although, the quizzes are a lot harder than the lectures, so make sure to actually study. It's obvious he cares about chemistry and his students, but understand you will have to work in this class to get a good grade.
Lots of clicker questions for participation credit. Hard quizzes and tests and lectures are detailed.
The wonderful teacher that gives many resources to contribute to learning. The class wasn't very difficult for me despite having never taken a chem class before; however, seemed difficult for many others. Bi-weekly quizzes were somewhat difficult and really checked your knowledge. Good prep for the exams.
Professor that makes chemistry genuinely interesting, and he's fun to listen to and work with.
He obviously knows what he's talking about, but sometimes he forgets his students are beginners. Office hours are SO HELPFUL, but you really need to know your stuff to do well on quizzes/exams for an A.
Prof Sheldon was great! He is really knowledgeable about all things science. He cares about his students a lot and wants you as a student to succeed.
Sheldon was an amazing professor; being this first semester was online only lectures, he made it really simple to follow and understand, really generous and teaches really well. It's really clear he loves teaching and is genuinely really helpful. If you can take his class, take it! You will learn to enjoy chemistry :)
A great teacher for Chem 107. It's a faily difficult class, but he is by far the best teacher for 107. Nice, helpful, entertaining lectures and a solid prof.
Had Sheldon for Chem 107 during Fall 2020 and all online due to COVID. Very large class size on zoom (700 people), but was able to make it engaging and make us laugh. Quizzes are tough, but if you study they are ok and are really just practice for the tests. He's dedicated in the office hours and is willing to help the students however he can.
Greatest Professor ever. I don't even like chemistry but this was my greatest class this semester. I have never seen a prof who gets excited to teach like he does. He literally even took time to explain if water was wet.
He was simply the best
Chem is a pretty difficult class but he does a very good job explaining things and makes sure to answer any questions students have. He is very understanding and the quizzes usually have extra points added afterwards. His lectures are great and as long as you actually put in effort and do the homework/study its not hard to make an A in the class.
Dr. Sheldon's amazing. He's so much more tolerant of the kids in his class than he should be. There'd be moments you'd be sure he'd get mad, but he was always very caring. He's so passionate about chemistry and the sciences in general. I LIVED for his in-class imitation of the chemist of old, lol. Just try and you'll be aight. Can't go wrong w/ him
Ignore the bad reviews. He's a great professor and genuinely cares about his students. The CHEM 107 curriculum isn't easy, so you have to work hard for an A, but he makes it better.
Sheldon is by far the best prof I've ever had. Course is difficult but he gives so many resources for you to be successful and truly cares about students. Gave some extra credit but rarely curves. The best online classroom organization, super easy to navigate, and he answers emails quickly. Take Sheldon, he is the best.
This class was so hard! He tries to help us understand, but most of the time we still don't. Thankfully, he curved the quizzes/exams some. I was praying to pass the entire time, and I've never struggled in a class like this before. He expects you to watch a lot of videos and understand the concept before coming to class.
This is an extremely difficult class, but it is hard no matter who you take it with. Dr. Sheldon truly knows his stuff and is highly respected, but I felt the quizzes and tests were many levels up from what we did in class.
Really hard class but Sheldon makes the lectures interesting with a sense of humor. He also makes you do clicker questions which means you have to pay attention, which is good since the class was online.
Matt Sheldon was very open with his students, he worked through corona very well. Just read the textbook, watch the video lectures, and attend class
Prof. Sheldon is a great professor for CHEM 107. I really had to work hard to get the grade I got but chem isn't an easy class. He was also a very accessible professor. Attendance is necessary since there are clicker questions but that's every CHEM 107 professor. Don't hesitate to have him as a professor. Just be prepared to put in the work.
BEST CHEM 107 PROF AT A&M. you want to take this guy. compassionate, listens to student feedback, adapts lesson plans to make sure concepts are being grasped, wants his students to succeed, inspires students, cares. Wicked smart. lots of office hours available. Clear and good conceptual explanations. Take this prof.
CHEM107 was a really hard class, but Prof Matt was very helpful. He explained things in lecture fairly well, was very lenient with his grading, and he truly cared about his students. Quizzes were hard so definitely study, but he understood the difficulty of them and tried to help us as much as he could. Don't know why some reviews are so bad
His lectures are very helpful and interactive. He's a really nice guy and understands that his class is challenging, so he does a good job of being accommodating.
Prof. Sheldon is a great guy. He cares about his students and has good lectures. The quizzes were generally fair, and make sure you attend class because he makes iClicker polls, although their servers are down a quarter of the time.
Prof Sheldon was honestly awesome. If you read the textbook and watch the pre-lecture videos he assigns, you'll be fine. The quizzes were tough but really prepared you for the exams. He's a super nice guy that genuinely cares for his students.
Professor Sheldon is a very understanding and great professor. His classes consist of quizzes which are not very hard as long as you do the in-class questions and Cengage HW. The finals and midterms were also very fair. He also doesn't make you memorize mindlessly. Do the hw, and go to the review sessions and you'll do good.
If you took AP chem or chem honors in HS you are totally capable of getting an A in this class. If you attend lectures, do your HW without using chegg and actually learn the material, this class should be easy. The first few quizzes and test are a bit difficult, don't let this disappoint you. Work hard and the Final should bring you up to an A.
I had Professor Sheldon online in Fall 2020. As someone who prefers physics and is not much of a chemistry person, I felt like he was a fair professor. He was very knowledgeable, but I felt like sometime he did talk above the level of the class. He was kind to go over quizzes and tests and really wanted to see the students succeed.
All around really good professor. Taught really well and was a super nice guy. If I could take him again I would. I never really like anything Chem-related but he made the subject manageable.
Just not a good teacher, nothing happens in class but you still can't miss it for participation credit. This is a self taught class.
He was super scared of covid and told us to wear a mask and get vaccinated every day. I can understand doing that on the first day of class, but he does it everyday! It definitely got in the way of class and made some students uncomfortable. Coursework as a whole is too bad. You definitely feel like your doing something worthwhile.
The first quiz was nothing about what was taught in the first few lectures. Lectures are a bit confusing.
I did not enjoy his class in the slightest. He spent the majority of each lecture preaching about masks rather than teaching chemistry. The class itself was not too difficult, as long as you keep up with the homework and understand the concepts you'll be fine. I could've taught myself the material and gotten the same result.
Attendance is "mandatory" but it's just IClicker. Along with that, there are some participation questions with Iclicker. There's a quiz every two weeks and two exams (midterm and final). As for Sheldon, he's a good professor, nothing to write home about but you're able to get a A in his class easily.
Sheldon definitely knows a lot about chemistry, but doesn't do a very good job at teaching it. I found lectures to be confusing and unrelated to the material on homework and quizzes. Be prepared to spend your "studying" time actually teaching yourself the material by either reading the textbook, watching videos, or attending IA sessions.
Professor Sheldon was not amazing, but based on what I hear about other CHEM 107 teachers, he is much better than others. He is really passionate about what he is teaching, so even if not everything you learn is relevant, it is taught well.
You get a lot of freebie grades with how generous the grade distribution is. 30% of your grade is free from polls and homework (which has 10 tries per question). The quizzes and exams though you actually have to try to study for. They're moderately hard and require effort if you want an A. Lectures aren't important. Sheldon is also cool.
Very nice guy, genuinely wants his students to be successful. His class will be very easy if you did well in high school chemistry. Just stay on top of your work and you'll be fine.
Dr. Sheldon is a great prof, super reasonable with covid which is a huge plus. I really hated the class, but he made it enjoyable and I looked forward to some of the lectures. The only thing you need to do is the graded hw and lectures, don't even bother with the txtbk, he writes the quizzes based only off his lectures, so be there or be square!
Class was available on zoom or in-person every day. Attendance was taken through participation on question polls (iClicker) each day. Prof. Sheldon made chemistry as fun as can be- he told jokes and stories and showed videos when he could and taught material exceptionally well. Class starts slow but picks up VERY quickly around week 3-4.
Class is very easy. Sheldon is a great guy, and super helpful if you are ever struggling with the material. There are easy quizzes biweekly that check for the bare minimum understanding of the course. And the exams are just like the quizzes. To be honest, just sit in the front row and listen to lectures and you are guaranteed an A in the class.
If you do not have any background in Chemistry, YOU WILL NOT GET AN A. He will not be lenient with anything. His quizzes are EXTREMLY difficult, lectures do not correlate with the quizzes. Recommend to take someone else!!!!!
I already have a hard time with chemistry, and Professor Sheldon didn't change this one bit. The majority of your grade is comprised of tests (only 2 in the semester) and quizzes, which are extremely hard. Although he loves chemistry, his lectures don't do a good job in teaching the material. Be prepared to have to teach yourself!
Not the best professor but he is alright. This class was hard and this is a flipped classroom so you are expected to know the material before it is taught in lecture. Most of your grade is made up of 2 exams and 5/6 quizzes which are all hard. This class is challenging definitely look for help from tutors, professors, assistants, or peers.
He's fine. That's it. Clearly likes the material and the students, but isn't very engaging in my opinion. He gives homework over topics we haven't covered yet. The quizzes and exams are online, so there is no chance for partial credit. You get it 100% correct or you get a 0. It is a very poor grading style for chemistry. Get ready to study.
I took AP Chem in high school, so I knew most of the material, but I loved his lectures. There is a good amount of homework each week, but it's manageable. Read the textbook, it'll help! Quizzes can be tough, but go to the TA's quiz review and study your butt off, and you should be fine.
Prof. Sheldon is a pretty good choice for Chem, as he explains it in decently clear ways and uses class participation (iClicker app) to help clear up confusion. There are a decent chunk of quizzes and tests, but studying on given material and prior quizzes will be your best bet. Main downside is that it's a "flipped classroom" style of teaching.
I like sheldons lectures and clicker questions, but I feel like we are not prepared enough for the quizzes. We dont get any practice problems or anything, and theyre usually much more difficult than the homework questions and clicker questions.
Great professor, sometimes the lectures did not really connect with the quizzes. The course is much easier with the TA review sessions.
He's a good guy and knows his stuff but IMO not the best at teaching. The lectures and textbook don't match up that well with the quizzes and exams, and you'll have to go to IA review sessions before tests if you aren't already familiar with the material. However, if you were decent at chem in HS, you should be fine. Generally a solid choice.
Easy class if you took AP Chem like me. I would recommend doing some practice on the online website he uses especially if you don't feel confident after lecture. Also, at least go to lecture for a few participation points that happen every lecture. The questions gone over in class are fairly helpful on quizzes and exams.
Sheldon is a solid prof for Chem 107. Not enough time to cover everything in the lectures, so you will have to use the textbook at least some. He makes lectures entertaining and is easy to access in office hours. Relatively easy class: the homeworks are basically free 100s (unlimited attempts on questions) and make up a sizeable part of your grade.
Sheldon really cares, lots of office hours and encourages participation. If you didn't take Chem AP, READ THE TEXTBOOK BEFORE CLASS. Biweekly quizzes, weekly homework w/ many attempts, midterm and final. Difficult class but he gives many resources to help you out. Interesting lectures and gives extra videos for every lecture. Take him if you can.
Sheldon is a good professor if you already know a lot about chemistry. He goes more in depth over the simple things yet seems to skip the actual simple things. Assumes everyone knows whats going on. Tons of homework, quizzes biweekly make up a large portion of grade.
Chem is very meh. A professor can only do so much when they have 89879 students. He taught the material well, went over lots of examples, couldn't ask for more. Only weird thing is that all three of his sections would bomb a question on a quiz/test then he would blame us, but then he would then still curve it so whatever
Lots of things to cover before class, but very engaging and fun lecturer. Regular readings from the textbook that weren't required but helped on homework. Homework problems were basically quizzes. Quizzes were basically tests. Attend his office hours he is very willing to go over any confusion! Solid professor. Cons- some self teaching, lots of hw
Brutally honest review: He was a nice professor and explained things quite thoroughly. Make sure to watch IA review videos before each quiz and you will be fine. Do not procrastinate on homework and do as many practice problems as you can.
Great professor. Each class has iClicker attendance required. He is a very kind and caring professor who cares about his students. Chemistry is a difficult subject in general, so expect to spend a lot of time reading the textbook and doing online homework. There is no easy A in chemistry, but it is doable if you work hard.
Professor Sheldon is a wonderful person if you are looking to have thoughtful discussions about Chemistry. He is very energetic and enthusiastic about chemistry and clearly demonstrates a love for the subject. With that being said, he is terrible at actually teaching it. His lectures rely on you naturally understanding everything (like he does).
Chem 107 is not an easy class, yet Sheldon made it fun with interesting slide decks and clicker questions that keep you engaged. 2 exams and lots of homework makes an A accessible if you put in the work. He is also very helpful and answers questions in lecture and office hours
Chem was a hard class for me to get. Sheldon will explain some topics really well and others not so much. Homework for units are sometimes due before they are taught which can be good or bad based on how you learn. You will HAVE to study for the quiz/exams in any capacity you can. Granted, I did not take AP Chem in high school. One quiz is dropped
Sheldon is a good guy, but sometimes he went on tangents abt different chem related stuff which took us away from what he had to learn. There's only a mid term and a final so that's a big chunk of your grade. Quizzes are every other week. All assessments on lockdown browser.
Prof Sheldon is a good professor who will lead you to success, if you put in the effort of course. Chem 107 with him wasn't easy, but wasn't too hard either. He posted reviews which are very helpful to study before the exams. He is a good professor who knows what he is talking about.
Dr. Sheldon is an awesome prof. He posts lots of review and videos before lecture so when you go in you already have basic understanding of the concepts which he furthers in lectures. Quizzes and tests are hard but they are manageable. Homework every week is more helpful practice than busy work. Overall he is a very intelligent and nice professor.
Professor Sheldon is such a cool guy. He makes lectures super interesting, his is the only lecture-type class I actually show up to. This being said, he does rely quite a bit on you taking care of your business. Study for this class!!!! Homeworks are on Cengage, always due on Sunday nights, and there are quizzes every 2-3 weeks on LockDown.
The only problem with this class is the homework and it is not the difficulty of the assignment. The homework we do seems always be a week ahead of what we learn and you seemingly have to teach yourself how to do most of the homework before ever learning it. Office hours a must go to if you would like an A and you did not take AP chem.
For people like me who can't understand chemistry that well, it is the most difficult prof you will ever meet. I guess his explanation are some what fine for some, but for me, no matter how hard I study on the class materials and homeworks, his quiz and exam questions are something way beyond that level and it is hard to get the concepts right.
He's alright, but the quizzes are NOTHING like the homework, or anything we do in class. Also during lecture he tends to go on random tangents that only serve to waste time.
Prof. Sheldon is amazing! His lecture is straightforward, and I can feel that he has enthusiasm for teaching students. He gives several extra credits, and drops one of the quiz grades!
You can tell he is very passionate about this class, the research he does, and his students. Great professor and gives you what you need to succeed if you put the effort in.
Matthew Sheldon is a phenomenal chemistry professor. He clearly is passionate about the subject and has a natural gift for teaching content in a way that immediately makes the most confusing of topics trivial to understand. There's no way to get around the difficulty of CHEM 107, but you will thank yourself for learning from Sheldon
Professor Sheldon is an exceptional teacher who cares about his students. He is knowledgeable, engaging, and tries to ensure that everyone in the class understands the material. Though you have to put in the effort, Sheldon provides many useful resources, is helpful during office hours, and even gives some extra credit.
Reading the textbook prior to lectures and doing *ALL* homework, iClicker questions, and extra credit are must-dos to succeed. Sheldon explains topics pretty well in his lectures and he's accessible at office hours. Quizzes are difficult so review notes beforehand. The midterm and final are cumulative. Again please read your textbook, it's crucial.
Chem is hard, Sheldon is one of the best professors. Does a good job of reviewing content in class and providing examples. Read and do homework prior to lecture. 6 bi-weekly quizzes, lowest dropped; weekly homework and daily clickers are scaled so just do your best. 20% midterm, 25% final. Tests and quizzes are hard. Good extra credit ~2% of grade.
Sheldon's class his hard, but he lectures incredibly well. His quizzes require you to have a conceptual understanding of the material, and are more involved then homework/iclicker examples. However he drops the lowest quiz grade and does a great job giving students resources when they are struggling. His office hours are very helpful.
Dr. Sheldon is a phenomenal lecturer. Chem is a difficult class, but he's able to break down concepts in a way that's easier to grasp. Tests/quizzes are hard and require a deep understanding of concepts. Expect to do some self teaching for this class. Lowest quiz is dropped and he gives some extra credit opportunities as well. Take him!
Professor Sheldon is a good teacher if you read the textbook ahead of class. Often homework assignments are due before we learn about a concept so reading the textbook is very necessary. He offers around 2 points of extra credit. Quizzes are every 2 weeks and are tests are very similar to questions from the quizzes. iClicker for attendance.
Class is hard but Sheldon knows what hes talking about and makes class as interesting as possible.
His class was hard, and I feel like it was my most challenging one my first semester. Lectures were ok, and the homework wasn't bad at all. Quizzes were what gave me the most trouble as many of the questions weren't anything like homework, but luckily one of them was dropped. Exams were a lot like quizzes. Overall, he's an OK prof but hard class.
He was a very decent chemistry professor, his midterm was on Friday when other professors had theirs earlier in the week. Gave very good extra credit which definitely saved my grade. Allowed students to retake the final next day due to technical difficulties which also saved my grade in the class. Overall, a very understanding guy.
Sheldon is okay for Chem 107. Very passionate prof. You are expected to know everything before the start of the lecture which is quite frustrating. Quizzes do not relate to homework. Tests very closely relate quizzes. Often lectures are quite boring but at least he tries to make it interesting. Gives nice extra credit though. Attend Office Hours.
Dr Sheldon is pretty funny and very smart. Passionate about chemistry and teaches well, have to work for it though. Homework was due very close to when its accordingly material was covered and office hours were poorly timed (at least in Fall 2022) which was annoying and difficult. IA office hours and exam review saved me. Good guy, tough class.
a decent prof better than a lot of others. my main issue with him is that he doesnt prepare u for quizzes that well. he teaches mostly concepts with a few problems while the quizzes and exams r math heavy. he had poor pacing (he taught concepts after the hw for them were due) but he's a caring passionate & understanding prof
The lectures are good and easy to understand. Reading the textbook isn't necessary but HIGHLY recommended. Homework on WebAssign. HAVE to watch assigned videos. iClicker questions during lecture - participation grade. Plenty of Extra Credit assignments. Read and work through homework, notes, and iClicker questions to do well on quizzes and exams.
Dr. Sheldon is probably the best CHEM 107 prof. Lectures were great, uses iClicker for attendance and points towards your grade. Quizzes were difficult as the questions were harder than the ones he provided in class. Midterm and final were structured exactly like quizzes in content and difficulty, If you can, take Dr. Sheldon, he is great!
Professor Sheldon is a really good lecturer. His quizzes and tests are not hard. Very understanding and caring proff. Highly recommend
Sheldon was so passionate about chemistry. Sometimes he would go on tangents in lecture but they were often interesting and funny. It's so great to get to learn from someone who cares about what they're teaching. Very sweet and kind and intentional. Livestreamed and posted recorded lectures! Used iClicker during lectures so attendance is important.
