Dr. Smith is a fantastic instructor who is passionate about his field. His lectures are engaging and interesting. The labs are challenging, but illuminating. He is prompt in responding to questions by E-mail. Exams thoroughly test your knowledge of the material. I would highly recommend taking Dr. Smith for Principles or Chem II. Great class.
I absolutely do NOT like chemistry, but Mr. Smith was a GREAT teacher. I would HIGHLY recommend him for principles or general chem. The notes/slides are very important for tests! I ended with an A in this class, but studied alot! He is SO helpful, and funny! :)
Mr. Smith is fairly new to teaching but he is amazing. I never thought that I would understand chemistry and remember how to do it but I ended up with an A in his class. I would highly recommend taking Mr. Smith!
Dr. Smith is a great teacher and makes class really enjoyable. He makes a lot of jokes just to keep people interested - but the jokes are on topic and help you remember things that you otherwise would not have cared about. His lectures are very clear and well thought out. Thanks Dr. Smith!!!
This is the real thing chemistry! Dr Smith is super smart and great at explaining however, the explanations can be very confusing. He teaches on a level that does not hold your hand. For best results, know the material before entering.
Highly recommend. Mainly teaches off his slide shows. I printed them off and they helped A LOT. Don't be afraid to ask questions, he is very nice and will help you out. Attendance is important he starts lectures right on time and if you are late or not present you may find yourself behind. He is very intelligent and loves chemistry. GREAT PROFESSOR
I took his class for Chem 2. He is funny, but his tests are insane. The sad thing is, I feel like I learned a lot from him yet my grade did not reflect this at all. The test questions are far fetched, abstract, and had little to do with anything we went over in class. If you don't care about your GPA, and want a fun professor, take his class.
Took Dr Smith's class for chem 1. He is so hot and he is really smart. The class is not easy, but if you do all your homework and do not miss any labs, you should be okay. He gives a lot of partial credit for showing your work on tests. I love him.
Honestly one of the best professors I've ever had. I had to drop Chem I last Spring because I was failing the class and couldn't follow the professor. Prof. Smith was a breath of fresh air. Is incredibly knowledgable, invested and passionate about teaching chemistry.. He expects a lot but if you really want to learn I would highly recommend him.
This was by far the most difficult course I've taken so far at TCC. It's not that I did'nt study or focus during lectures, it's the tests that killed me. Homework was fairly easy and also labs, but the quizzes and tests were insane. If your looking for an easy class.. RUN!!!
I missed a couple of lectures and got behind on homework when my other classes were getting crazy, which was a big mistake! I suggest to let this class be the brunt of your coursework and take it with 2-3 other classes. Concepts aren't too bad but homework/practice is only way to do well on the tests. Serious time commitment. He is very helpful.
Dr. Smith is such a good teacher! Not only is he hilarious, but he covers the material really well. He will go over something repeatedly until everyone understands. If he taught more classes, I would definitely take them.
I took Mr.Smith randomly for Chemistry I; his methods of teaching are clear and enjoyable, which is hard to do in Chemistry. He's doing it again the same way in Chemistry II. Now, he is teaching us even more useful things. If you want to know about chemical reactions, take him. I've met life long contacts in his class, and he is highly qualified
Matt Smith is a fantastic young professor. His expectations for students are totally manageable even in difficult subjects. He manages to communicate concepts in a lot of different ways. His passion for the subject inspired me to learn more. I AM SO GLAD I TOOK HIS CLASS!
Haven't met another Chem prof who can teach it like he can. It's not a simple subject. Very receptive to questions, helpful in classlab, and dry-witted sarcastic. Read the book. Go to class. Take notes. Do your homework. Participate. You will learn Chemistry. Best Chem prof period.
The embodiment of what it means to be a teacher. Education is so much more than showing up to roll through what one can learn by reading a textbook at home. Original, organized material is always prepared, grades are fair and updated often, and lecture is memorable due to his knowledge and genuine subject interest. MyLab HW a pain, but effective.
He knows what he is talking about, but he goes a little fast sometimes. He will clarify anything if need be though! The labs are pretty clear. Homework can suck sometimes but that's due to MasteringChemistry. Gives you the chance to email him if it's being picky though and he'll fix your grade! Definitely study for tests. Take him!
Great Professor! Lab is easy if you follow directions. Only 3 tests! Really funny and will take time to answer your questions!
One of the best professors I have ever had the privilege of taking. If you try, he really cares and will meet you half way. Don't be scared to see him in his office hours. His tests are hard, do your best, but remember he sets the class up so the tests are not worth so much. Hated chemistry, now I LOVE it.
He was super helpful and is easily one of the best science teachers I've ever had. You have to work for your grade but it isn't too much. I don't think attendance was mandatory but you should attend the lectures to understand the material. He also uses some of what he says in lectures in tests. I'd take it again even though I didn't need it.
dr. smith was unny in a cute nerdy kind of way. he is very understanding when "life happens" homework is not due until just before tests. he gives take home quiz due at every test for extra credit. he give alot of feedback on labs and tests. i wold take this class again just for fun!!
Best professor at TCC! He is so funny! He make chemistry relatable and does plenty of problems on the board! Don't be afraid to ask for help! He will help you how ever he can! Gives partial credit on exams...
Prof. Smith is a wonderful instructor. I am getting ready to take his 8 week summer Chem 2 class and super excited to excel. He is very helpful and willing to take time out to help you. Wish he taught more courses would take him every time.
One of the best professors I have had the privilege of taking. He has a real talent for captivating the students' interest and the patience to help out when you need it most. Rework the MasteringChemistry problems to practice for tests and work in groups and you will get an A. Would have taken more classes with him if I could.
I really liked his class. I would take his class anytime. the subject is hard but its do able. He is helpful. make sure ask questions. What you put in is what you get out.
Matt is great! I made an A in this class because of his teaching. It's not an easy class but if you do the homework, study, and ask for his guidance the class goes by smoothly. He's an awesome guy, and really cares about his students! I definitely recommend him as your Chem professor!
Dr. Matt Smith is the best professor I have ever had! He really cares about his students understanding the material so if you are having a hard time, he will go out of his way to help you understand. His tests are very easy as long as you study and go to class. Taking notes is a must, he provides several examples in class that are helpful! Love him
This professor is amazing. He speaks clearly and with passion. Show up to the class, do the homework, read a bit, BAM, good grade. Although it is important to actually read to understand, not to skim. Not the easiest A, but not the hardest. On a plus side he is pretty cute.
Loved this class! Matt was a great teacher and extremely helpful. He really cares about his students learning and understanding the material. He makes lecture fun(or as fun as it can be)! Definitely not a cake walk though, it is really important to show up, take notes, do your homework, and study hard!
His enthusiasm is infectious. Total mastery of his field. Very challenging labs and take-home quizzes. Prefers qualitative understanding over memorizing or calculating. This was a hard class, Chem II. Dr. Smith has long office hours, which I appreciate. Get your stuff done in advance, so if you have trouble you can go see him. Great guy!
Wonderful teacher, plus he really knows his stuff. Connects well with students in lecture and makes the material understandable. Available outside class and email. Very understanding of personal issues and accommodating.
I am really not good at Chemistry, but I am really glad that I took it with him. He's a great professor. The connect work can be a little tough but if you ask he will help you. The labs are fun and you don't always stay the length of the lab. I made a B in his class, just put in the effort and its not that hard.
Absolutely one of the worst professors I have ever had. He teaches half the course, and make you learn the other half out of a book, and then gives GRADED homework on completely irrelevant, unlearned material. The homework is almost impossible and his quizzes are ridiculous. The labs are extremely difficult and he doesn't explain how to do them.
If you respect yourself enough that actual learning is your goal rather than being handed an unearned grade, Dr. Matt Smith is your man
Organic Chemistry is not an easy subject, nor is it particularly interesting. Dr. Smith makes it both of these things. I have taken science classes at numerous universities, a couple quite prestigious, and Dr. Smith is honestly the best professor I've had at ANY of them. Only negative I have to say about him is that he doesn't teach OCHEM 2245.
Dr. Smith is a great guy. If you don't like him, it's probably because you are a dummy with no social personality. His test are freaking tough! If you pass them, it's because you know what you are doing. He will completely stop what he is doing to help you outside of class. And if you are not smart, he will break it down goldielocks style for you.
Best professor I have had at TCC. He is everything I aspire to be as a science teacher; passionate, inspiring , helpful and gets along great with the students. Will be taking him for Chem 2 next semester. I wish he taught at OU so I could take his classes there too. Tcc is lucky to have him!
Best professor at TCC, if you don't take him you are missing out on an experience!! I took him for Chem one and will take him for Chem two. Amazing guy and he is super cute!! You have to take him, if you don't you will regret it!
This professor loves chemistry and loves teaching chemistry. It shows that his dream job is exactly what he does now. He is fun and will work with you. He grades rather tough, but is not unreasonable and will always help you if you need it. He helps you learn how to think through problems rather than just learn how to work them.
TAKE DR. SMITH! He is far and away the BEST PROFESSOR AT TCC. PERIOD. The level of teaching from him is better than most highly touted 4 year university professors... I have no idea how TCC is keeping him... he is THAT GOOD. Tests are always comprehensive, and very hard, but taking him will be the best decision you have ever made! 10/10
The guy is a chemistry rock star. Absolutely would take him again! He's tough, but fair. Show up, take notes, study and you will do well
Take Professor Smith!! It is refreshing to have a professor who care about the subject they are teaching. He makes you want to learn ad he has fun while doing it. I would take any class he teaches!
You must study hard. No study guides for tests. Ask questions if you don't get it. Tests are only worth50% of grade so don't give up. Lab,quiz, homework other 50%. Don't be a punk by being late for labs. It's not cool or fair to Dr. Smith because he is there on time for you. If you have a schedule problem, talk to him. He will cover you if he knows.
Dr. Smith is an amazing professor who made my General Chemistry II class fun to go to. He was funny, had amazing teaching techniques, and really cared about his students. He always asked if had any questions. After each exam he'd ask if we liked the section or not and ask why or why not we liked it! He is younger, which makes him more relatable.
hands down best professor I have ever had. I agree with the other students that he is definitely an experience to be had at TCC. Although his exams are difficult and the quizzes are crazy, he does this to make his classes think and actually use our brains. Loved his lectures and his attitude! I took both Gen Chems with him.
Matt is a great professor and gives lectures that aim to help you understand the material not just to tell you the info. His tests are fair and only aim to help you remember the material.
Mr. Smith has made my first chemistry class very interesting and fun. You can tell that he loves his job and he is actually there to help you pass. He definitely cares about his students. I 100% recommend him. It is a tough class so skipping won't do you any good. He is a little fast paced, but will always answer any questions when confused.
He has been one of my favorite professors by far! I have a really hard time understanding chemistry but he makes it super fun and easy. He also teaches things that you actually need to know. Labs will take up full time but are pretty simple. He will help if you just ask!
Professor Smith is the best teacher I have ever taken! He makes chemistry understandable! You do have to work for your grade! I'm not very good at chemistry but if you review the lecture notes and take time to study you should do fine!
very rigorous !!
There is nothing I can say that properly captures the excellence that is Matt Smith. I almost missed out on the opportunity to experience chemistry through his mind, but an unexpected faculty retirement and some great administrative juggling put me on a crash course with his Chem II class. Take his classes, work hard, and learn in a whole new way.
AH-MA-ZING! I did not think I would need chem2 so I didn't pay much attention in chem1 (which was 4 YEARS AGO) I was so scared to take this class but Dr Smith explains things very well & what you don't understand he can dumb it down to you in the most simplest form w/o making you feel like a complete idiot. Sapling/online homework is the WORST!
I love this guy, so caring and funny! not afraid to say what hes thinking! helps out, does give extra credit! very wholesome guy! loves bowties!
Dr Smith is amazing! So nice, funny, and is such a good teacher!!! I was terrified of this class because I am terrible at math, but the way he teaches I not only understood the work, but also enjoyed this class and learned a lot!!!! I highly recommend taking his class! Definitely my favorite professor and loved how available he was!!!
He is very good, Dr. Smith is very knowledgeable about his material. Easy A. Trust me. I never studied for his class, and I got B+.
You need to understand his material very well otherwise you will fail in his class. He does his Fast Run PowerPoint but you need to read your book bc there are questions on TEST from the book and is not on powerpoint. Remember Homework and quizzes are not easy either. He will give your TEST back to correct it but You might not get any extra point.
I took his Honors class and although it could get overwhelming at times, If you do your work and ask questions you will be just fine. He lectures a lot but if there is something you don't understand, ASK! He does not mind taking the time to help and is very responsive to email. I would definitely recommend taking him if given the opportunity.
I took his honors chem 1 and 2 and it prepared me so incredibly well for organic chemistry at my 4 yr. I go to a particularly difficult STEM university and I aced Ochem thanks to Dr. Smith. Yes, you need to work hard but he will help you if you ask and he puts a lot of effort into his lectures and labs that you will be thankful for later.
Dr. Smith... YEAH... yeah. okay. He is amazing. Chemistry is now one of my favorite subjects. He makes a difficult subject interesting. He is so down to earth, and he is always there to help you. The world needs more teachers like him. STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING. TAKE HIM. You will see a whole new world with chemistry.
Dr. Smith is an amazing find. He will help you love Chemistry. I took his Honors Chem II class and it was the best decision I ever made. He is very accessible outside of class and always willing to help. My only regret is that I won't be able to take him for Organic Chem.
Professor Smith is probably one of the best professors I've had so far. He's always willing to help, bend over backwards to help you learn and complete his work, and he teaches Chemistry in a way that anyone can understand. The math is pretty easy (coming from an engineering student), but I'd consider practicing it. Great guy! Funny, caring, helpful
If you need to take chemistry and actually want to learn the material, Dr. Smith is who you want. He's very patient and willing to help his students as best he can.
I took professor Smith for chem 1 in fall 2019&2 in summer 2020. He was great when I took him for chem 1, but for 2 he was AMAZING especially with it getting switched to online with the pandemic. It didn't even feel like an online class other than the labs he was always accessible for any question you have, and the quality of teaching was fenomenal
like many iothers, I left chem 2 with an irrational affection for Matt smith. I ws the best student in my organic cchem classes at university. I got a really good understanding of gen chem from ???????Matt. I wish I could just hang out with the guy, heis that cool.
Will not go out of his way to help you like reviews say. He'll leave unclear instructions for you to struggle to figure out and when you're incorrect he docks you. If there's an issue when you turn an assignment in he'll give a 0 and not care. Even when it was clearly a glitch and not at all your fault. I have never met a person who cared so little
My favorite professor so far! If you have trouble understanding anything, he will work with you until you grasp the concept. Professor Smith has an amazing collection of bowties.
Take him for chemistry! We did Chem 2 all online and Chemistry is difficult and requires effort/time but he makes it easy to understand, hes accessible outside of class, recorded lectures are awesome, he gives feedback on labs before you officially turn it in, he know what hes talking about and can teach the material. The bad reviews are wrong
Upon grading our second to last exam, he gifted me with a zero and accused me of cheating, then proceeded to go back to an exam from months before and give me another zero. This dropped my grade below a 60 with no time to withdraw nor pull my grade back up. He screwed me over and he wont hesitate to do the same to you. Wouldnt recommend.
I wish I could go back in time and prevent myself from enrolling in his class. I regret everything. He accused me of cheating and never let me explain my side of the story. I nearly failed because of him and my GPA went down the toilet. It felt like a personal offense because I told him I was having a hard time understanding how he taught.
I know Im not the only one hes outright accused of cheating before, but it seriously almost ruined my life. He never let me speak on my own behalf or even let me retake any of the exams he falsely failed me on. He never even responded to my emails. Im thoroughly disgusted with him. Avoid at all costs.
Cannot stand him. He could care less about helping you, he just wants to grade stuff and get it over with. Makes no exceptions for anything, even if it was out of your control. Pretty sure you could be dying in the hospital and he wouldn't make any exceptions for you. Run.
I took his blended Honors chem 1 class and really enjoyed it. I loved the way he taught and he also recorded his lectures (the online lectures were not mandatory, but the labs were!) He gives his homework out through Sapling (which can be a pain at times) but the quizzes were easy because they were based on what he taught during his lectures.
Dr. Smith was a great professor for General Chemistry II. He gave many examples during lectures that helped when preparing for his exams the days prior. He made sure to help if you needed it & knew how to make the hard material understandable! You will become an Excel pro & be so thankful it after the course! Takes notes and you'll do great!
Ok, so I took Dr. Smith for Chem 2 and at first glance your like ok I like this guy, but then he gets a little sassy. I think the way he lectures is awesome, and he records them so you can go back if you need to. He is a harsh stickler when it comes to any online help other than him and he expects you to automatically know all the nuances of math.
I purposely worked my schedule around taking him for Chem 1&2 as well as Organic Chem 1. He is a fun professor and will explain things in further detail when you ask for help. He makes sure you have everything you need to pass.
One of the absolute best professors at TCC! He made Chem 2 fun. His lectures were great!
I really hated chemistry but Professor Smith got me through Chem 2. He made is lectures interesting and he was super helpful.
Taking Organic Chemistry? Don't worry, Dr. Smith is THE professor to take! He has found a way to make Organic Chemistry enjoyable! Labs are fun and lectures are easy to follow. Dr. Smith provides all the tools to help you succeed, most importantly he wants to see you succeed. TCC is lucky to have him!
I took professor Smith's blended-online Chem I class last Fall 2020. I was reminded about how truly wonderful he was after having awful luck with my professors this year. He is funny, real, and reasonable about late work. He treats his students like adults. He was available anytime after class to help one-on-one.
Uncaring, does not provide clear instruction, and is generally ineffective. Do not take his class.
BE PREPARED TO DO A LOT OF HOMEWORK. The chapter tests are relatively easy compared to the homework and labs. He is a lot more picky grading the labs than anything else. Reading the book will be necessary even if you watch the lectures. He will throw curveballs at you in the homework so if you don't read the text you probably won't get an A
Very thorough in labs, great job explaining difficult concepts in lectures, always includes in-class examples similar to problems on the exams, and even though some hw questions will require reading the text and aren't too easy to understand, he is so helpful over email and got me past all the stumpers through the semester! Can't recommend enough!
Dr. Smith is a good professor, he made labs fun, had good lectures but he's a tough grader. If you don't understand or you're struggling, he won't care. I would say take his class, Chem 2 is a HARD class and it could be worse, but be ready to spend every evening studying and have a favorite tutor at the school.
Dr. Smith is amazing! He is literally hilarious and made classes enjoyable! Take him!
I had a tough semester and Dr Smith helped me after class anytime I needed it, as well as during office hours. He is also good at making the class light hearted, he is very funny. It is a tough class though. HW and labs are HARD. Tests are fair.
This is the best course I've taken at TCC. He helped a lot on the labs, and his lectures and power points are top tier. He explains chemistry in a digestible way, and the coursework is not hard at all, but in a way that still teaches you the necessary information.
Dr. Smith is fantastic. I took his General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry class; this was his first time teaching the section and he did a phenomenal job. I hated chemistry in high school, but he rekindled my love for science! He never got mad or annoyed at silly questions, he was kind! He's hilarious and if you like dorky jokes, he's the one!
matt smith is an amazing professor. he is extremely knowledgeable and patient. he will repeat himself as many times as anyone needs. ive never taken a chemistry class in my life and i aced GOB chemistry, or as he calls it, "no tears chemistry." if youre taking this class for admission requirements into RDH, dont stress. you got this.
Overall, he is a good professor who gives good feedback when asked. However, he is hard to contact; even with his Discord server, it is difficult to ask questions outside of class.
Will help you but you do have to ask for help in order to get it. Makes confusing items very easy to understand. He will take time out of his schedule to help you if you set it up. For sure would take his classes again.
Lectures make up everything you need to know for the five exams. If you skip them, the textbook will not fill in the blanks very well, and he doesn't have anything else to supplement. Hard to get a response from him over email or Discord. Other than that, nice guy and I think he's fair on tests ie fairly generous grader and tests aren't crazy hard.
Dr. Smith is probably one of the best professors at TCC. He is very helpful and willing to answer any questions you have. He is very understanding as long as you communicate with him. His labs are also pretty straightforward. Overall awesome professor. Would definitely recommend.
Dr. Smith is hilarious! Super easy going and wanted everyone to succeed. If I could take him for every class I would.
Dr. Smith is amazing! He is the best professor at TCC to take for Chemistry. He will stay late and help you succeed. I have never had a better professor than him while being at TCC. I have taken two of his classes for Chemistry and he has helped me understand the material, which allowed me to pass with A's in his class.
I took Chemistry 2 with this professor, he made the course seem easier than chemistry 1, although the material can be hard, he teaches in a way that made it very easy for me to understand, he also throws in a lot of jokes and puns to make the class more enjoyable, one of my favorite professors by far.
Professor Smith is an engaging lecturer who makes chemistry digestible. Although the coursework can be challenging, he's very helpful in and out of class. Utilizing Unstuck ai along with the textbook made study prep a breeze.
Took this class online and honestly didn't watch any of the online lectures. His labs were amazing, he taught me a lot and made me actually enjoy chemistry. 10/10 would absolutely take a class by him again
great teacher. took this as a blended course. would take again in a heart beat.
After having a terrible teacher in chem 1 this teacher truly made me feel like chemistry is not as bad as I thought. His class is very easy as long as you watch the lecture videos, took his class during summer time and it was one of my best decisions, 5 exams total which one of the exam's grades is not gonna count toward your final grade.
I really enjoyed his class. He makes chemistry fun and interesting.
