Matt is a new professor at DePaul. I could tell he was working out the kinks in his lectures and syllabus design. He is an extremely understanding individual. If you feel that you were unfairly graded, or that group members did not pull their weight, he takes that into consideration. A little patience can result in a better than average experience.

At first he rushed through material which was difficult, but halfway through he restructured the class based on student feedback and the class was much more manageable. His tests were not hard and overall he's not as bad as previous reviews said. He seems to have adjusted his teaching style in a positive way since being hired last year.

He completely revamped his class so prior ratings are irrelevant. The course is very fair and you shouldn't have a problem doing well if you go to class and do all of the required work. I didn't read and did fine. Group projects are time consuming but not too hard. He's very fair and understanding so communicate any issues you may have.

A straightforward class. He's a new professor and changed the class a lot to help the students learn the material more effectively. Very caring and understanding and adapts well to feedback. Exams were not hard and the assignments weren't too bad. Overall a good professor.

Disregard all prior negative reviews. Professor Stern was a new professor and hadn't worked out the kinks. This quarter however, he did everything he could to help his students. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed all while making the material as interesting as possible. I HIGHLY recommend him.

Professor Stern was an awesome teacher. I think the negative comments previously had to do with the fact that he was a new teacher and was most likely figuring out how he wanted to structure his class. However, he took into consideration what past students said and really made the class understandable with clear guidelines. I would recommend!

Professor Stern made accounting 101 a pleasant experience. He truly cares about his students and their success, and without a doubt I'd take him for future accounting classes. As long as your willing to put the work in you will succeed in his class.

Absorb the material he provides every class and you will definitely pass this class with a B or higher.

Professor Stern is a godsend. I took ACC101 during the Winter 2017 Quarter, and found him to be genuinely interested in making sure every student does well. How am I sure of this? He developed a lot of innovative real world examples during our office hours for me to comprehend how different accounting practices could be applied to the real world.

Professor Stern is the best Professor I have taken at DePaul. Accounting, of course is boring, but he is a really genuine guy and cares about his students. He spent days with me in his office hours helping me prepare for the final as well as other students. He drops 3 lowest quizzes and lowest HW score. He really cares about his students.

Gives one homework and online quiz assignment every week. Does lectures online now so have to watch lectures outside of class (not a fan of that), otherwise he is a knowledgeable professor.

Matt is a great accounting professor. The class itself is not easy, but Matt is always available for help and he gives out a lot of extra practice problems. If you have taken accounting before or are going to be taking your first accounting class you should take his class. There is a lot of homework, but it helps with the quizzes.

Very Helpful and actually cares not only about your grade, but that you understand the material.

Fast paced lectures. If you do not understand something be sure to ask. Keep up with the homework regularly and you will for sure pass. Good professor that is helpful and available when you need it.

Great teacher, winter quarter of 2016-2017 was his was his first time teaching acc101. He records lectures for the week and put'em up on d2l, so when youre in class, you're just doing practice problems and going over the homework. He is just a dope teacher. His study guide& mock midterm and final are on point. It really hard to fail his class.

ACC 101 is a hard class for most people. However, Stern really cares about his students and wants them to do well. I had him his first quarter of teaching ACC 101 so there were some rough spots but the difference is that he cares. Also most of the grade is midterm/final (for all acc 101 classes) and his study material is very comprehensive.

One of the BEST professors I have experienced at DePaul. Would recommend taking him if you have to take ACC. Genuinely cares about his students. Always willing to help in and out of the classroom. For the comments that say the midterm and final count for too much of your final grade, thats the whole ACC Dept, nothing that Stern can control.

He gives you study guides that has everything that's going to be on the midterm and final! The nicest and most caring professor! I once emailed him at 4 am and he replied at 4:05 am (not kidding). Go to class, do the assignments, he grades fairly, and gives very detailed feedback, sometimes he gives so much that it takes him a bit longer to grade assignments and projects. He's very knowledgeable, though sometimes he can go too fast in his lectures

Best professor I've ever had. Goes above and beyond to make sure you pass the class. He is what every college professor should be like. It's a very hard course and he knows this and does anything in his power to make it easy for you. Don't slack or you will receive a bad grade without a doubt. This guy deserves a raise!

Professor Stern was great! Always willing to help and really puts his all into teaching. Relates everything to real world situations and gives comprehensive analysis on using each process. One of the best professors I've taken. 80% of your grade is on the midterm/final so study hard. Stern gives great feedback and study sessions!

Accounting, in general, is a tough subject for most people, but if you have to take it definitely take it with him! He genuinely cares about the grades of the students and gives excellent study material for both the midterm and final. Hosts three-hour review sessions during the week before the midterm and final which are super helpful, go to them!

He was very detailed in class. Study the material he gives during the course and go to every Accounting lab for extra questions. He overall is an amazing professor and he cares about every student learning the material.

Professor Stern is hard working least to say. He dedicates hours of his own time to perfecting his teaching and it really shows. He understands that this is not the easiest class, so he really stresses on making sure everyone understands. He cares about the students progress and constantly reminds them of homework not done, not like other profs.

Professor Stern is the best professor I have had by far. He knows so much about accounting and how to get students to learn more efficiently. All ACC 101 classes have to take the same midterm and final and weigh them the same. Accounting 101 is a very difficult class if you don't know anything accounting before coming into this class but Dr. Matthew Stern does a good job of implementing his teaching styles to help students understand. Provides great feedback, has so many resources to help you, is a funny guy, and cares for his students to do well.

He is not the average professor, he is organized, knowledgeable , and will go above and beyond to help meet your needs . I highly recommend taking his class. The class its self is really hard. However Professor Stern does everything in his power to teach you everything you need to know and pass. Honestly, he was one of the best professors I've ever had. One of the best professors Ive taken as a freshman. He gives clear guidance & expectations necessary for the course and will make time for his students. Theres no reason to fail this course. Didnt know anything about business but made me interested in accounting and now considering it as a major. Great professor so consider him as a first choice

This was my second time taking this course and I am so thankful I chose Stern because he made it so much easier to understand accounting. He truly cares for his students. He makes worksheets himself and prepares one for each class so that we understand everything better. I really recommend taking him if you're taking acc 101 for the first time.

Professor Stern took a class that has one of the highest fail rates in my college and made it far less intimidating. He also took a took a topic that I didnt find interesting and made me excited to go to class. He answers all questions no matter how basic and if it doesnt apply to class he happily discusses it outside of class. Great Professor.

Possibly one of the best professors I've ever had! This was my first time taking the course and I was very intimated with what other students had said about the content but Professor Stern made it so much easier to understand. Mr Stern will go the extra mile to make sure that you understand the topics. I'm an average student, so if someone says that his class is hard or they failed the course then it's obvious they didn't put the work in. He's super honest about the difficulty and demands of the class and tries his best to get his students to pass. It's obviously a lot of work but he does truly want to help you avoid having to take the class again. If you keep up with the homework and go to class you'll be solid. He does go fast sometimes doe, but other wise a great teacher.

Great guy, really tells you everything you need to know for midterm and final. Gives a ton of resources. ACC 101 is a tough class as it is but Prof Stern is super helpful and will always volunteer time outside of class.. do the homeworks to your best ability and you should do fine on tests ! Doc S is an amazing professor. I had background knowldg in acc so it wasnt hard for me but it is a difficult class. Dr. Stern was an incredible choice for ACC101 this year. At DePaul, ACC101 is tough at DePaul, but if you show up to class and actually care to learn, Dr. Stern will help you learn! There is a textbook with an online software as well where you do all the assignments and quizzes, however I never used the book as I found the in-class handouts better

Dr. Stern is not only a good Prof he is also a great human being. Acc 101 is the hardest class at DePaul but he makes it easier. He genuinely cares for you and gives you enough time and material to prepare for the midterm and final. All the hw and quizzes are online. Would take him again for sure. You have to work alot in this class but worth it.

Despite having the roughest start to any Quarter Ive had so far, I managed to get a good grade because of Professor Sterns great teaching skills. Class is structured really well and he makes the confusing content easier to understand. Definitely a good choice if you have the option to get a class with him.

Professor Stern is an amazing professor. I was nervous to take ACC101 based on my friend's experiences with the class along with my dislike for the subject but Professor Stern makes accounting easier to understand and is always available to help. He takes the time to make review guides that are similar to the exam and always has review sessions.

His lectures are clear and informative, as well as his answers to questions. The textbook is 100% not necessary for his class. Make sure you fill out the handouts along with him, and he abbreviates a lot, so make sure you know what they all stand for. The midterm and final make up most of the class. If you listen and do the homework you'll pass.

Dr. Stern did a great job with his ACC101 online class. The weekly lectures were solid and were not too long. The class, in general, is not the hardest class out there and Dr. Stern makes sure to help you strive to be your best!

Professor Stern was an absolutely amazing professor, I am not sure how different his class was before the pandemic but he did an amazing job providing the material needed for homework and tests. He also did a great job staying in touch with students and helping when needed, very fast to respond to emails too!

One of the BEST PROFESSORS @DePaul, Mr. Stern goes over any question you have and takes his time to answer it fully and asks you if you understood or not. Dr. Stern is very reasonable with his grading and the amount of work he gives. Like any accounting class, it is not easy, but if you put in the effort you will do well. He is really good at explaining and he is always willing to help you outside of class! Your grade is made up of weekly homework and quizzes with 3 attempts and a midterm and final.

He is really understanding if you have any issues, his lectures are thorough, and although the amount of assignments can be a bit cumbersome, they offer a good cushion for your grade. I really recommend him. I feel confident it what I learned in his class and he seems to want his students to do well.

Doctor Stern is one of the best Professors I have had at DePaul, and within the Business school. He genuinely cares about the success of his students, but only if you put in the same amount of effort. The content can be difficult (especially if you tune out), but he always was willing to back-track and explain things after class. Take him!!

I took this as a async class and it was the best async class Ive taken so far. The labs and homework will take a up a lot of time each week but if you stick with it you will get into a routine. Homework is helpful and so are his videos. Overall it was a good class experience.

Professor Stern is a great teacher but the class itself is pretty hard. You do have to buy the access code and you will use Cenage for the book. He was always very easy to reach and responded to emails in a timely manner. He really cares for his students and gives extra credit opportunities and easy points for simply watching the lectures!

I took this course online asynchronous. Professor Stern's lecture videos were extremely informational and helpful. The work load was very manageable and followed a simple schedule. He responded to my emails very quickly and was always willing to help

I had a great experience with professor stern. His class is lecture heavy but he explains things in such a way that it is logical and very easy to follow.

Professor Stern truly cares for his students and it shows. This class is very lecture-heavy but is expected for accounting courses. He would stop for questions in the middle of his lectures, and at the midterm and final, he created a survey to rate his teaching method. He held extra sessions for final review that lasted 3 hours. Throughout the course Dr. Stern demonstrated great abilities in his work and effort through maintaining an engaging class, concise and clear lectures, respectful in his feedback, and is very accessible. The course work and the overall grade is straight forward, consisting of HW, attendance, Quizzes, Midterm, Final and Handshake and Passport.

He gives very clear lectures and all the assignments allow for multiple takes, the best grade is always what is given to you. He responds to emails fast and will take feedback and implement that into his course. He has a very clear set up online page which makes it easy to keep track of assignments. I recommend taking his courses.

Professor Stern was amazing! His asynchronous formatted ACC 101 class was super easy to keep track of. Each week had the same format in terms of assignments. You got multiple attempts at quizzes and homework and the entire course was open book. Definitely recommend taking his class if you get the chance :)

I really appreciated the fact that he was so willing to provide me with help whenever I needed it, and was so prompt at responding to emails. Highly recommend!

He was awesome! You can tell that Dr. Stern wants you to do well. He makes his lectures easy to understand. If you take notes on how to do the lectures, you will get an A+ no problem. This was my first college class that I got over 100% in (I ended his class with a 102% from extra credit).

Mr. Stern is an amazing professor! I would email him with a problem I was struggling with and he would respond right away. He truly cares for his students. I wish I could have him for every accounting course. I worked about 20-25 hours a week with 16 credits. Accounting is hard but as long you are good with managing time you will be fine.

I took him for ACC 637 - Data Mining & Analytics. Professor Stern was awesome! He taught us real world technologies (R, Alteryx and UIVision) and applied them during class and for homework. As a student with 20+ years of experience, I'm really glad to have had a chance to learn form one of the best. Take him!

This professor impressed me. He was very difficult but in the end he ensured and put in all the effort to make sure all the students pass and understand the course material. Lectures were long but the information was all useful.

This was a new course and it seems like they were still figuring out how to present the material as lectures and labs were quite confusing and disjointed. Be expected to learn R in the first two weeks and use it for everything thereafter. The assignments were changed often yet the syllabus was never updated. Final project was graded very tough.

Professor Stern is an exceptional teacher I've had so far. He offers numerous extra credit opportunities and is exceptionally clear and helpful in his lectures. Additionally, the exams are manageable if you pay attention and study diligently.
