He's very cool, very approachable. His class and projects are easy, but sometimes uninteresting. He doesn't exactly explain things clearly though. If you ask him afterwards he's MORE THAN helpful!!
he was ok
He seems to care about your education, if you care about your education. Open and very friendly. Doesnt cater to slackers. Has fun projects. Sometimes too sarcastic.
He's a pretty good teacher if just a little picky on the craftsmanship stuff. I find that he's a real sucker for inner themes and meanings. If your piece has a strong message, that'll give you some easy points.

First project I wanted to pull my hair out, but all the other ones were great. I really like this class and the professor.
This guy plays favorites so you have to brown nose to turn a B into an A. I would not recommend him.
Kinda preachy, but fun. He's a cool guy for relaxed people. You still have to work, and he's a stickler for craftsmanship, but it's an interesting class and you get a lot of in-class work days, which is nice. The spaghetti project will drive u nuts, but it's fun throwing bricks on them afterwords lol.
His class is not too bad, but I often found myself questioning the relevance of this course to my program of study, as many of the projects had very specific materials and limitations. Projects can be pretty fun if you're lucky enough to find a good idea that actually works with the materials.
Matt Stromberg is by far one of the best teachers at SCAD. He is fun and very helpful He gives you alot of freedom to explore the things you like to do. As long as you go to class most of the time and do the assignments and have work to show for your time you will do well. I took two of his classes and would tottally take more.
This is one of the most enjoyable and motivational professors I've had, or probrably will have. Take his class, the projects he has you do are fun and though he has boundaries on the project, he lets you run with your own ideas. He is not an easy A, but no professor should be. You have to work in his class, but everything is worth it!
Hes SO cool! He has the coolest projects out of all the profs that teach 3d. You have 4 assignments and a Midterm and a final, which are both based on vocab and stuff he says in class. They all weigh the same, so study for the tests. If you're a slacker avoid him. He believes in hardwork, reason why you have 2 weeks for each project.
While a really good teacher and alot of fun he will work you hard something fierce. I enjoied his class and learned alot but it required exponential amounts of time, really cool guy, take his class if you want to learn and are willing to work hard.
Fun and entertaining in class, but not very helpful if you're not one of his favorites. Can be somewhat of a prick at times.
Great prof. His assignments are really fun, and you have a lot of time for them. Of course as a result, he expects more out of them. So take this class if you want the best learning experience and are willing to earn it. And TAKE HIS EXAMS SERIOUSLY. I didn't study for the midterm and got a grade that destroyed what could have been an A.
He is wonderful. His assignments are labor-intensive and time-consuming, but I actually felt like I learned something from his class. If you are a procrastinator, don't take his class. But if you start work early and love fun assigments, then professor stromberg is the way to go. Just be prepared to work hard.
This is not a slacker class, Stromberg demands the best.He expects great projects and it's always best if you surprise him.He likes wierd and creepy projects. We had 4 projects and 2 tests, they all have the same weight so don't fail a test or it's impossible to get an A.If you can get through the spagetti project without going crazy you'll be fine.
Make no mistake: this is not a class for those looking for an easy grade! That Being said, Stromberg is single-handedly the best prof I've ever had. He will challenge and push you to do things you didn't know you could. The best thing is, he can always tell you how to make projects better. You'll never look at spaghetti the same way ever again!
I had this guy for 3-D Design and got off on the wrong foot with him so he didn't like me. Even though I made at least an B or even an A on every project he gave me a C for my final grade, kept me off the Dean's list for that quarter, so brown nose and do what you've got to do for an A.
Stromberg is pretty awesome. Not only did I learn about 3D design, but also about 2D design and the art-making process in general. I decided to really put a lot into my projects, manage my time wisely, and got great grades as a result and, furthermore, I came out of the class a much better artist period. This is what school's supposed to be about.
Great, great, great professor. Really teaches and uses different materials for each project. Does crazy artwork outside of SCAD. My most enjoyable class ever at SCAD.
Professor Stromberg was great. He really kept things going in class. His projects were also interesting but compared to other teachers they were a little random and had little in common.
He is tough, but I learned a lot. Think of really interesting and kooky ideas for projects. He likes that. Set your standards high for the first two projects. He think highly of you for the rest of the class.
Very helpful class and a smart professor who knows what hes talking about. He really likes goofy ideas and jokes. If you can get him to laugh or smile when presenting your project it can mean a letter grade of difference
Very helpful. Very fun class. Think outside the box and use your imaginage. The bigger the better.
I LOVED Stromberg! HIs projects are pretty intense (making a tower out of dry spaghetti and having it support a 25 lb. weight) But he was VERY helpful and a really cool guy! Definitely recommend him!!
His projects were much more interesting than other 3D classes but he expects a lot out of everyone and its incredibly time consuming. Often times he doesnt like your ideas and wants you to make his. Overall I learned a lot but i would probably take another professor if i could do it all over again.
He's a really interesting guy that loves to talk about anything and everything. The projects are great and require a lot of thinking and a lot of work. One of the best teachers at SCAD.
I can't even express how much I respect Professor Stromberg as a person as well as a professor. He is one of the best professors at SCAD. He's all about concepts, development, and presentation. He wants to prepare you for a professional setting. He loves his job, and has a great sense of humor. He tells things as it is; he's awesome, take him!!!!!!
he is a decent teacher. he really does have favorites if you have a different style then what he likes you never really earn a grade that is completely deserved. The more he likes your projects the better the grade. His exams can kill you grade so make sure you study.
During this class i produced some of my best work,He has great projs, professor stromberg is increadibly critical but hes an excellent professor and will show you exactly how to improve take this class and you will be a better artist because of it, but be warned if you dont want to be torn apart during a critique your going to have to *&$%ing work
Oh my god this man changed my life. I thought it was going to hate design but it opened up a new world to me. Stromberg has a passion for what you does and he cares about if you succeed. If you need him- hes always there. You DO have to do work in this class but its all worth it. Best teacher I've ever had period. Take his class.
Prof. Stromberg expects you to attend every class, be intuitive and not slack off. This is by far the most time consuming class I have taken but also the one that I have walked away with the most. The projects are long and meticulous but it is all about the final product which he designs ideally for your portfolio. I highly recommend him!
His class was so much fun!!! It was a lot of work, but i was like a kid in a candy-store when i was there. His projects take a lot of time to make and are difficult, but he explains in detail how to make them. In the end, you'll have at least one thing to brag about.
I absolutely loved this class. He is a fun teacher and made all the projects fun. I thoroughly enjoyed every project that we had. I would highly recommend him.
Professor Stromberg is very enthusiastic about this course, and as a result the projects are always interesting. His class takes a lot of effort in a short amount of time, but he's helpful. This class is definitely worth taking if you're willing to work, discuss your projects with him, and follow his advice.
Stromberg was an excellent professor. Very interesting and fun projects that are challenging at the same time. Expect to put a LOT of work into your projects, and remember to study for the mid-term and final. The class was time consuming, but I created amazing pieces of 3-D works for my portfolio.
Classes were informative and I learned a lot. The main reason to take this class however is if you're looking for excellent portfolio pieces. Mind you this means you will have to work. He is also a stickler for craftsmanship. Enjoyed this class a lot and enjoyed working on the projects.
I took his Design II class. It was A LOT of work. The projects are unique and fun, but because of that it will be hard to judge the time it takes. You will probably hurt yourself making one of your projects. He always has good advice/criticism and is willing to help. Stromberg is a nice person and easy to get along with. Check out his personal art!
Stromberg is an incredible professor. He was intimidating at first, but I learned more about creativity in this class than ever before, and he was always amazingly helpful. He expects a lot of work from you, but it's also not impossible to made an A. That being said, this is not a class for slackers! I recommend him if you're willing to work hard.
I loved this class! it was a fair amount of work but compared to the workload i had in business school it was nothing. he was very scary the first day!! he is very helpful and he is dead serious about attendance so dont miss a class. if your not a slacker i would recommend him, i enjoyed his class very much and loved the projects.
To be honest, I hated this class. Id met people who loved it, which made me even more disappointed in the class. But I learned a ton; a lot about how to survive in an art industry, and how to get information. Hes kind of a jerk though. Overall, if you're determined to do well in this school, take his class. If not, drop out while you're ahead.
I enjoyed this class a lot, though it was challenging Stromberg is a really awesome professor. However I wouldn't recommend taking him if you're looking to get a grade handed to you.
Honestly I wasn't interested in taking 3D design at all, but Stromberg is ok. You could do worse. But he likes to talk about his opinions and he will take off for randoms things that he doesn't like something in your project even if its perfectly fine.
I decided to take this teacher because of the projects. His projects are really creative and fun. Not gonna lie he is a hard teacher but thats what I loved about him. Many people don't like him though. He just wants to push you to succeed and he doesn't hold back on what he thinks about your project...which I liked. Expect to work for your grade!
He is very opinionated, and his criticism is not that helpful. The only reason I got and A in his class is because I did exactly what he wanted and asked for him to clarify the instructions multiple times for each assignment. Only take him if you have drawing skills and want a challenging course
Stromberg is one of my absolute favorite professors at SCAD. I had him for 2D & 3D design and have found him extremely helpful and have grown tremendously as an artist along the way. He really wants you to succeed and pushes you to take your ideas beyond what you thought you were capable. It's not going to be easy, but his classes are rewarding.
Stromberg is hard but his projects are very creative and he rotates them very often. He has some dubious opinions that he shares freely, but has solid critiques. I don't know if I'd recommend him.
Great professor, definitely knows his stuff! Be prepared to work hard, his projects are fun and creative but very time-consuming. Make sure you stick to his guidelines! He's also a great, helpful guy with a good sense of humor. Take him!
His projects are difficult but will give you a better perspective for your field. I learned SOOO much from him even though the projects were time consuming, it was all worth it!
Good teacher. He is a difficult grader, but i think that our work trumps the other 3d classes. The projects had a reasonable amount of time to complete just do not procrastinate.
Excellent Professor. I felt enlightened after taking his class. Expect a lot of work though. Not a class for slackers. An amazing teacher though, so far my favorite professor at scad
He's a good professor and I definitely learned a lot from his class. However, his projects are super time consuming and no matter how hard you work on them, he never gives you a good grade which can be very irritating.
When I took this class I hated it, I spent so much time slaving over his projects and I resented him for that but in hindsight it truly wasn't that bad at all. He taught me SO MUCH that i didn't even recognize for some time. Just put it in the time and effort in the projects and you'll get an A.
Stromberg has a lot to say about the industry and professionalism but isn't that professional himself. He tends to be all life-lessons and talk and no show. He'all walk over any idea that isn't his own and tends to be a bit stubborn when a new approach is thrown his way. You'll still learn a good amount, he's just a bit much to listen to everyday.
Stromberg doesn't just teach techniques, he teaches philosophy, and a lot of the time, I don't know if anyone really catches it. This one quarter I've spent under his wing has had the most influence on me as an artist than all other experiences, hands down. If this man started a religion, I would follow it.
I enjoyed his class very much, and the projects we did, but everytime a student had a new idea, he had a very hard time accepting the fact that it wasn't his own. He doesn't like to listen to students, he likes to do things his way or the highway. He's unprofessional most of the time, and just gave every one B's without grading more closely.
Professor Stromberg is engaging and passionate, his projects are designed in a way that gives you as much creative freedom as possible while still teaching you the necessary skills.
Stromberg is a decent professor, and you really have to work hard on craftsmanship and presentation to make an A. I took him for Design 1 and 3-D, and liked him better for Design 1. I did learn a lot in Design 1. He rambles a lot and will go on forever if you ask him a question. Tells a lot of Dad jokes and tries to teach cheesy life lessons.
Good stuff
I thought it should be a studio class. However, he had a lot to say every day!!!!!!!! I almost never have time to spend time on my project during the class. He talked too much about himself and his own accomplishments. He cared about your craftsmanship very much, but he didn't teach you how to make it better. I have to struggle a lot to get an A.
Definitely one of the hardest classes I've ever taken; I slaved away on all the projects and never got an A. However, I won't deny that I learned a lot, and Stromberg was one of the most understanding professors I've ever had. He has a great guide to his entire class that makes keeping up very easy as well. Just watch out for his "life lessons".
Stromberg is a fine professor. His projects are really fun but he can be a little frustrating. He has a hard time accepting ideas that he personally just doesn't like, and he's one of those people that answers your question with another question. You have to do a ton of vocab, so if that isn't your thing, don't take him.
He's an amazing teacher, but get ready to work.
He tends not to explain what he wants and as said in class multiple times that he prefers it when his students just allow him to micro manage everything they do. I learned nothing form his class and the spaghetti project was pretty pointless to me and not worth the amount I paid for this class. If you don't know what you are doing he might be okay.
Stromberg worked with me to a better grade after midterm. The class takes hard work but the projects are great.
Professor Stromberg is very wise, and makes a lotta dry jokes. He's very clear about what he expects, gives good critiques, and most importantly, (at least to me) every class he would give pieces of knowledge about design that seem like they should've been obvious but opened brand new doors for me. Cool projects, cool dude! Take him!
He's probably one of the best professors I've had here at SCAD, he's hilarious and very caring. He told me, "no idea is a bad idea" and is very helpful if you ask for help/thoughts. Highly recommend.
Professor Stromgberg was probably my favorite teacher. He really cares about you and how you do in the class. The projects are kinda hard if you dont put effort and work into them. HIGHLY recommend going to the office hours because if youre ever having trouble he will work with you and help you. Also hes really funny and the projects are fun.
The projects for this class were so interesting and fun compared to other 3d design courses. He is kind of strict with what he wants, but he lays it all out in a class packet. Just make sure to read it. His personality can rub some people wrong, but he is still an amazing professor.
Stromberg is a great professor. He is knowledgeable of what he teaches and always focuses on the student first. He takes the time to talk to everyone and allows students to use the cheapest, most effective materials and techniques in class. Lots of extra help sessions and he makes 3D a real learning experience regardless of your major!
Projects are incredibly fun and interesting. Pushes his design process onto you, but it helps you to meet the grading criteria. Interesting professor, does not like architecture too much. Interesting and has a lot of stories in his life. Talks a little too much in class, but other than that, he is great professor. Helps you to make great projects.
Stromberg is a lovely guy. He really shows that he cares about your success and wants the best for everyone. The portfolios for 3D design we did ended up looking amazing. It was worth all the outside of class work. The projects were fun and interesting, however the spaghetti project I feel like was too intense for the first project.
Loved this class and what I made while I was in it. Stromberg was very helpful and would randomly drop insanely helpful design advice. I liked how his critiques were structured. He also clearly communicates exactly what he wants out of you. Don't make a square anything in his class.
I love Stromberg and his class, to me was easy. I heard some students in my class complain about him so I'm going to address that. He talks a lot and sometimes says things that are not offensive but told bluntly and straightforward. If that bothers you, don't take his class. If you can't handle being told you're work isn't the best, don't take him.
He keeps you busy during the quarter, but even then, his class was wicked easy. Keep your head up, fill out the terms he gives you as soon as you can, and you will have no issues what-so-ever. He really cares about the students in his class, and he has a great sense of humor.
Stromberg is really nice once you get to know him. He can be quirky at times but his projects are fun. Just approach the class with an open mind and be aware that you will probably have to shell out some extra money for the projects.
Stromberg was the best class I've ever taken in my life. It was organized, intense, but it really really pushed me. He taught so many life lessons and encouraged a level of creativity and organization I've never seen before. He lives by his rubric and grades clearly. You get out what you put into it. 100% Projects (no fluff).
Great professor. Really listens and suggests things you can do better for your projects. Loves to talk and walk around and see how everyone is doing. Work is easy to understand and doable. The first half is usually a lecture then he lets you work on your projects in class.
He's my favorite professor yet. He is clear in requirements and gives many opportunities to fix a bad grade. He's extremley interesting and fun to listen to. I learned skills that I will use forevor. If given the opportunity, take his class. You will not regret it.
Idk if it was just because I took the class online, but it definitely wasn't my favorite. He would say my project was good during the class time and then say something completely different when grading. He also changed his expectations of how to turn things in during the middle of the quarter and didn't really say anything about it.
Something about this professor hes excellent at explaining 3d design concepts and will guide you towards knowing the foundation that said for actual critique of the work you would do in the class; hed give guidance though many times it would change the meaning of the piece. The materials in class are relatively simple to show anything is possible
He talks a lot but says nothing of substance. He just repeats the same phrases over and over again so if you pay attention you can mute him after lectures and while working and not miss anything important. He pretends to be a neutral force when he really isn't. Easy to pass if you blend into the background and match his grading criteria.
Proffesor Stromberg gives A LOT of projects and I mean it. Those 4 projects are really focused and should have high marksmanship. BEWARE of the clay project since you will requiere to take it to an oven which SCAD gives. Also beware of due dates and when powerpoints are due.
Stromberg can be a bit direct and honest but his advice was always helpful. He had a can do attitude and was always available to help me when I asked. I appreciated all the time he spent with me. He also had great demos. He is the best professor I've had so far at SCAD.
Professor Stromberg has such a passion for the subject of design which shows in his teaching. It helped me to get excited about design as well. The projects were always really fun in a way that I didn't dread them as I normally do with school assignments, and I was able to apply the design elements and principles while working on the projects. He
I loved Strombergs 3D class. The class structure was very well organized. It very was helpful when he went over new units and project expectations and processes every class. This made the information clear and consistent. I loved that he connected the last class to the current class to the next class. In addition, he was a very engaging.
This professor has to be one of the worst I have had at SCAD. For every project, he grades you more on the PowerPoint presentation of your sculpture, rather than the artwork itself. His lectures are pointless and he doesn't shut up about how he worked once in Hollywood. Don't get fooled by his rating. Trust me.
Professor Stromberg was great about getting grades and any comments and critiques back quickly. His critiques were positive, blunt and direct, which made it easy to know what I needed to improve on and fix. The second chance option on most of the projects was very helpful. He really cares about students producing work that makes them shine.
Literally one of the best teachers. Not only was he funny and nice. He was also very helpful and informative. He would help you try to make your absolute best project! I had such a great quarter and I have definitely learned a lot. I made amazing projects and some will probably be on my resume.
He knows a lot about design. He gave great ideas and delivered valuable content. I also liked the way he taught us the design principles and how to apply them in the projects.
Stromberg has really fun projects and I do feel like I learned a lot about design, but it is always his way of the highway no matter what. He constantly preaches a "cheapest fastest easiest" way for everything and disregards that the fastest or easiest way could be different for different people.
You have to buy a lot of stuff you will likely not use all of, but Stromberg is a great professor and made 3D enjoyable. He has every assignment mapped out with extremely clear steps, with student examples and a rubric for everything. You can turn in all work 48 hours after the due date to fix it and get all your points back.
Creates assignments that foster creativity, however he talks nonstop which was difficult to deal with for me. Tends to be very repetitive and brings up constant tangents or personal opinions in his conversations and lectures that do not contribute whatsoever. It’s hard to get a word in at all regarding your project or in critiques with him.
I LOVED Stromberg and his class. It was hard but he was there to help every step of the way. I really learned so much. I just want to say that there were too many clueless, lazy and apathetic students in my class. They need to drop out before they waste more of their parent's/loaners money. It would help the people who want to be here.
Professor Stromberg was always well prepared for class. His grading criteria are clearly listed. The sheet of all of the rubrics for the projects was extremely helpful and was a wonderful resource. His projects are fun and engaging. He was always willing to listen to ideas or offer advice for a project.
Stromberg's projects are pretty fun, but besides that he wasn't great. Every class he lectures about things you already know and when he does demos he just mainsplains. He contradicts himself every other sentence and isn't always clear. The grades he gives are strict & literally random. He WILL touch and bend your projects without your permission!!
Loved Professor Stromberg's classroom. You can immediately tell he is very smart and loves to share his experiences about past students work or fun stories. He loves when students experiment with the material during his lectures so you can really get a head start on his projects. Make sure to read through the course packet and you'll get an A.
Unprofessional His fun facts are usually wrong; if you point it out not even in an insulting way he will get cross opinionated on projects and even sent me a rant email making many spelling and grammatical mistakes. All this, despite the fact that i did good on all his projects. PPT lectures were just rewrites of the book dont bother buying it.
Stromberg has big boy scout dad energy (in good and bad ways) You'll probably learn 3d foundations as well as you can with him but he has a very big personality that can be very taxing class after class (he just says completely wrong fun facts). Overall OK, but a nitpicker in grading so don't expect an easy A as he's hard to please.
I hate this professor so much!! He one time called me crazy for having a different opinion then him. He is constantly talks about he's so great for inspiring students but will drag students that try to replicate that in the present. He just likes to hear himself talk and be in the spotlight. Will not teach you anything but copy pasted definitions.
Matthew Stromberg is the worst professor at SCAD. Lies to his students at least twice a class, inserts his right-wing political opinions into his lectures, and is VERY rude to his students. You will learn nothing from him and would do best to stay away from him. You may have heard horror stories about other professors, but none are worse than him
Most classes start with half a hour of boring explaining what to do, while Stromberg constantly goes off with stories and rants about nonsense and his past life. The instruction itself is bad, he has a very strict mindset of "I know how to do this, my way is the best and you shouldn't even attempt any other way", avoid like the plague
Professor Stromberg is a really chill guy. Overall I liked the class and found it pretty interesting, however, the lectures are really boring since it's just going over vocab. The projects are extremely time-consuming and sometimes they can get really tedious, however, not all of them are terrible and there are only 4 projects in the quarter.
He wasn't that bad, I just genuinely didn't enjoy his projects (would never willingly make a spaghetti sculpture again). I also found him to be a bit cold and unapproachable. He was a tough grader, but I ended up making out of it with an A. The clay project was a lot of fun.
The most immature person within the class. His advice actively would make my projects worse and change the entire direct of them. If there was even a small amount of advice I didn't take, he'd bash it in critique. His class is just him patting himself on the back all lecture. Not worth the headache.
