GREAT TEACHER! easy tests. There is a term paper, but it is not difficult, the assignments are breeze as well. Online final& he gives you 3 hours to complete (plenty of time to look through your notes, and google ideas to find the right answer) He is a great guy with interesting guest speakers. take this class if you have an interest in forensi
For someone with absolutely no background in chemistry, I found sections of this class to be very difficult. The material is very interesting but with no textbook, if you don't understand something he says, there is no other resource for the information. It is not an easy GE but I think it was worth it.
Pretty easy class, the topics get more interesting towards the end. Woods isn't the best lecturer but he means well and is a very nice guy. Out of the entire quarter I went to a few lectures and of course the midterm days and final, still passed.
Wood was really a great professor, most of his guest lecturers were really interesting especially the FBI agent, he was more than happy to explain a concept to you if it was not clear, and as long as you read and go to class, it should not be bad at all! The final study guide was a little much but overall a really engaging class I'd recommend !
The guest lecturers were very interesting and knowledgeable (especially the FBI guy). There is two midterms and one final which are pretty easy even if you don't go to the lectures. He podcasts and posts everything from the lectures to smartsite. He also gives extra credit to his students. His class was the most interesting one I have taken at UCD
Honestly the best professor in Davis! His lectures are super interesting and it's a pretty easy class if you just go to the lectures or listen to the podcasts. Best class I have taken so far, even considered switching my major for EXT after this class.
Dr. Wood makes a big effort to incorporate recent news in his lectures (he's shown us movie clips and funny tweets). Exams are all lecture material and MC. Was bummed about how grades were based on just 2 midterms and 1 final (was 2 multiple choice questions away from getting an A- in the class, so I wished he had maybe an extra assignment or two).
ETX 20 was by far one of my favorite classes at Davis. Professor Wood is awesome and the guest lectures were so interesting. Wood is really straightforward and clear about how the class is run and what he expects. We had two midterms and a final, plus extra credit opportunities. He podcasts every lecture. I'm taking him again for ETX 30!
Get ready to memorize and regurgitate. I do not recommend this as an "easy A" GE. The prof goes so slow when he goes through lecture slides, which aren't even his, and rambles on about common sense rather than the material we actually need to know for the tests. Plus, he goes out of his way to try and trick you on the tests; I don't recommend him.
Professor Wood is amazing, he posts all his lectures online and always tries to help his students. He also has the best TA working with him, Brian. Overall the class is easy as long as you review before exams. Two midterms and one final, easy. Theres a slight curve in the end which can push you a letter grade up.
Professor Wood EXT was a super interesting course. Lectures included case studies with actual photographs from the crime scene, some were graphic (dead bodies, wounds, suicide). His tests were fair, the TA was extremely helpful by hosting online office hours, hours at Meyer hall and so on. There are study guides that don't cover all the material.
Great professor, easy to follow lecture. Come to class it will be worth it!
Having science background won't help much(Took this spring quarter of third year as a biochem major). But pacing was slow enough that I could absorb all of the information during the lecture + review slides the day before the exam for an A. The prof didn't pull much tricks on the exam and was pretty loyal to the slides/lecture.
Dr. Wood is a great lecturer. His lectures are clear and well organized. The tests are okay. The only thing I dont like about his class is the lack of practice for the midterm. But the tests are fair and lectures are interesting
You are lucky if you have a chance to take class with Dr. Wood. His lectures are clear (pay attention in class), his exams are straight forward, and his practice exams are very accurate representation of what you should know! Use the textbook as a guide. If a info doesn't make sense, run it thru both the TA and the Prof (they both grade the exams).
Taught course very well. Clear with what would be on exam. 3 exams; 1 final; two papers. Fair grader. Lecture material was clear, no one was very confused in the class. High averages on exams.
Okay. I was so excited to take a forensic science class. Prof Wood should not be a lecturer. First of all, he takes way to long to explain concepts that are really basic. His lectures are from another professor and they are completely uninteresting. He is not a dynamic lecturer and would be better off in a lab.
Case studies were interesting since they're local ish and sometimes recent. Information is straight forward, exams are true to study guide, you have plenty of time for assignments and he really accommodates if you seek out the help. He records podcasts too. Easy and interesting GE
First ETX class I ever took. Was hooked immediately. Clear lectures. Emphasizes exactly what you need to study for the midterms. Exams are fair. There's a 2 part report to do, but it isn't difficult at all.
Professor Wood is a great professor, amazing lectures with occasional real case studies. Go over the lecture slides and podcasts as well as review slides for exams, easy A.
The lectures are super interesting, though the homework can be confusing at first. Make sure to wait until a couple days before it's due to do the assignment--he will discuss it in class first and give away some of the answers. As long as you review lectures, you'll do well on exams. All multiple choice questions and pretty straight forward.
I took this class as an elective, and I have to say- I wish I had more profs like this one. If you have any questions about the hw, go to office hours. He really cares about the students. The subject is understandable for a non-chem/bio major student like me. I recommend taking the quizzes (not graded) before the exam to study. Again, amazing prof
Honestly this professor is one of my favorite at UCD. i took him for a winter quarter GE and it ended up being one of my favorite classes. Attendance isn't mandatory because he posts the slides and podcasts, but I loved going to lecture because it was really interesting. You're graded on 2 midterms, a final, and 3 assignments. TAKE THE CLASS!!
Textbook is available in PDF in Canvas so it is free. He reads slides in class often, but the several case study are very interesting with real FBI photos. His TA Dontrel Hairston's class and review session are equal to reading PPT. Two midterm questions are extremely tricky. Final is online due to coronavirus and is okay.
I loved this class! I took forensic science with him and it helped me choose my major and land on something I was passionate about. Professor Wood is very passionate about what he teaches and is very engaging in lectures.
One of my favorite professors here at UC Davis. I took this class in the winter. This class made me want to take ETX30 in the Spring. Both are well worth it. He is an amazing professor and knows his stuff!
Dr. Wood was a great lecturer and made the topics covered in class super interesting. His tests were fair and as long as you do a thorough job of studying for them they are not that hard. Dr. Wood was always very enthusiastic at office hours and was also very helpful.
Dr. Wood is a professor who clearly cares about advancing learning rather than just overloading you with assignments or coming up with purposefully confusing tests. He gives you a free pdf of the textbook and is fantastic about communication/helping you outside of class. Straightforward tests. You will have to write 2 two page long chemical reports
Graded by 50% 2 midterms, 30%, and 20% hw. Not open notes but material is easy enough. Need to watch lectures. Tends to go over time frequently so I just watched recordings on 2x speed. Assignments were easy but seem hard at first since it's hard to approach w/o guidance. Exams weren't too bad and he was nice enough to curve!
I loved this class! The first midterm was great, the second midterm and final had a few tricky questions. But overall, the workload is super low and definitely manageable. Definitely a fun and easy (if you put the work in to review the lectures and study guides) science GE to take!
Professor Wood is one of the best professors I have ever had! This course is a great introduction to forensic science; a fun, light workload as long as you put in the effort. He makes the material really interesting and digestible, even for non-STEM majors. 2 midterms, 1 final, and 3 HW assignments that are all very doable if you pay attention.
I had Prof Wood for winter quarter 2021, and really enjoyed his class. It's a great GE for non-stem majors as all the concepts are easy to understand even without a science background. He's also a super nice professor and the test aren't hard if you just study a bit.
A really great person, but is terrible at responding to emails. Like, will never respond to the point where there were several mistakes on the final exam that students brought to his attention. If he fixed these questions, many would have gotten a higher letter grade in this course.
There's not a lot of assingments but you just need to use quizlet to memorize info for the midterms and final. The info is fairly interesting so that helps. No extra credit but he curves a little at the end which is nice bc the averages are all Bs so he definetly doesn't have to. He's super nice and approachable too!
Professor Wood is very passionate about ETX, and is a great resource for career development.
Great lecturer and great with analogies to help students understand the material. Grades consist of 2 midterms, 1 final exam, and 2 reports (2 pages max each). Exams are half MC half free response, but all questions are straightforward. Free response may require a bit of thinking. Follow example for chemical report, you shouldn't lose any points.
Dr Wood is very nice. Very few homework in this class. Interesting lectures. Not a difficult class. Great guy.
Dr. Wood was amazing. Great lecturer and the class was interesting. There were two midterms and one final, with three homework assignments. Lectures were engaging and exciting to go to. Super easy class, just need to show up for the most part. Highly recommend this class for any fans of true crime out there. I plan on taking this professor again.
I've taken him for both ETX 30 and ETX 20, and his classes are always super interesting. Very little stress, and the perfect GE if you have space in your schedule. Though I will say that some of the lecture material in ETX 20 is very graphic, so if that's something that bothers you I would recommend against that particular course.
His lectures are a little intricate because he does not do slides however he is a great lecturer so it doesn't matter that much. Exams were fair and the project was very straightforward and easy. I would definitely take him again.
Graded on 3 assignments (easy, self explanatory), two midterms, and a final. Lectures very easy to follow and super interesting case studies. Low stress and you learn a lot. As long as you attend lectures and take notes, exams will be super easy. Very cool professor, would take him again if I wasn't graduating.
Dr. Wood is the professor students dream of taking. Compassionate, humorous, and intelligent, Dr. Wood is the literal legend. I'm taking this just as a biochem elective. But like wow, this class is legit interesting. I don't actually feel like my time is being wasted (like I feel for my other classes.). If you can, absolutely take ETX 101 with him
Honestly, I don't think the exam is as easy as people on rate my professor said. I studied for so long while and didn't get the grade that I deserved. 50 minutes/ 50 questions in person midterms.
The course is interesting but exams are difficult if you take as a GE course. I reviewed very hard but got a B after the second exam.
Professor Wood is an incredible educator! His lectures are very detailed and he has an obvious passion for environmental toxicology. He reviews practice exams before the exam. He makes the course material palatable and interesting while also listening and taking note of the concerns of his students. I am now an EXT minor because of professor Wood!
Professor Woods is amazing! I really enjoyed his class, but the material is very heavy. It was super interesting to learn but at the same time a lot to memorize for the two midterms and final. But Professor Woods made it super enjoyable, I will totally take another class of his!
Professor Wood is a fair grader, and works with you if you reach out to him. He's easily accessible through canvas. His lectures are packed with so much info, but he does record them. He makes funny comments here and there during lectures. If you're interested in ETX, I highly recommend taking him! Exams are heavy so make sure to study.
Great professor, grading criteria was clear. Only graded on three assignments and they were not that difficult. Midterms and finals are not very difficult unless you study. Provides you with test reviews to help with exams.
lectures definitely matter so do attend lectures/watch lecture videos (I watched lecture videos at the end of the quarter). exams were all MC and answers were weird (DDDDD for example). read the textbook, not sure how important it was for the exam tho.
Ugh I love this man! He isn't the most organized (there aren't slides, and you kind of don't know what will be on exams) but he's so sweet and he loves the material. He's EXTREMELY empathetic down to earth and receptive to feedback. I honestly just enjoyed being in his class. He's very passionate about what he does and it's great!
I loved ETX 30 with Dr. Wood, even though some info can be tricky, he makes it so fun to learn. Definitely take him and this course if you can!
Took this class while taking ETX20 at the same time. I LOVED professor wood in etx20 but didnt really appreciate him in etx30. Difficult concepts that shouldn't even be for a GE. If I could I would've dropped this class. Grade literally based on midterms and final as there's no other assignments. This can make or break ur grade. Take etx20 instead.
I LOVE PROF WOOD! He's clearly passionate about toxicology and I learned so much. I would take another class with him. He's so cool to talk to after lectures and listen his funny stories :)
Prof Wood was passionate about the material and his lectures were interesting and easy to follow. The tests weren't difficult if you paid attention lectures and reviewed his exam reviews. I really enjoyed this class.
LOVE HIS LECTURES!!!!!!! TAKE HIM!!!!! He is very good at explaining concepts and case studies. The contents were very interesting to learn. There are three homeworks throughout the whole quarter (VERY EASY and can be done quick) and 2 midterms and 1 final. The exam questions are pretty straightforward and easy. Just memorize what's on the slides.
This class wasn't really what i was expecting, and the content is fairly difficult/ time consuming to learn. I wish it was graded on more than just three tests. However, I really like Wood. He is super kind and accommodating and I would love to take another class with him, this just wasn't the class for me.
It was graded by 2 midterms (25% ea) 3 assignments (20% total) and a final (30%). The homeworks were very easy 100%'s, given as CANVAS quizzes with 2 attempts. The midterms and final were harder because there was a lot of material, but he put out study guides with each one. Lectures posted online. He also adjusts the grade scale in student's favor.
Very passionate lecturer, lectures were organized and easy to follow. Interesting content but occasional graphic photos from crimes to beware of, he did announce disclaimers/warnings prior for those tho. Easy assignments and straightforward tests. Pay attention to lectures and study a bit for tests and should be easy pass.
He is very clear about what he expects and the criteria for grading. The midterms and finals are most of the grade and are all multiple choice. He also gives study guides and has optional practice quizzes on canvas which sometimes show up on exams. Grading wise he also have 3 canvas assignments which are basically free points.
Professor Wood is very caring and helpful. The class was not difficult at all and attendance was not mandatory.
He's really friendly
He grades on 3 assignments which are easy and two midterms + a final, super straight forward. Attend lectures, especially those taking about case studies bc they're on the tests. He keeps it light, nothing crazy about it and super easy GE for those who can just sit and listen for an hour.
The exams were very straight forward, and there was one chemical report due that was 30% of the grade, which was extremely straight forward. Exam averages were always very high, usually ~85-89%. Extremely approachable guy, and if you go to professors's office hours you'll be absolutely solid.
Professor Wood really cares about his students! This class is graded on a chemical report (30%), two midterms (20% each) and a final (30%). The case study is graded objectively so just follow directions. The midterms are pretty straightforward from the lecture notes. I would definitely take more of his classes.
Prof. Wood was so entertaining to listen to all quarter long and really made the information digestible. He provided a great study guide for each test, and the exams were all fairly easy if you knew the material. He posts lecture videos online which is extremely helpful as well! Just make sure to study for the tests and you'll do great!
Professor Wood is a great lecturer and is very organized. ETX 020 is a very easy GE with 3 assignments that take less than an hour each and 3 tests that are all very easy if you pay attention in lectures (which are recorded). Really interesting material and you do not have to do the readings to get an A.
Lectures are very good and well organized. The class was very interesting too and the assignments were relatively easy. If you want an A, don't miss lectures. The tests are relatively straightforward and are dependent on how often you go to lecture. Don't miss case studies either as the slides aren't posted on canvas(the recordings are though).
prof wood is phenomenal. as long as you watch lectures and do the practice quizzes before tests, you'll be fine. a really great class for anyone interested in true crime! three easy HW assignments, three total tests.
Professor Wood is amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed his lectures - super interesting content! The best GE I have taken. Course consisted of three assignments (all easy with some effort), two midterms and a final. Studying for the exams was definitely required, but this professor was fair and wants you to succeed. Would highly recommend this class!
If you pay attention during lectures you will do great. If you don't and cram a few days before the midterms you will also do well. Lectures are funny and easy to pay attention to. Funny guy, very chill. 2 midterms and one final all multiple choice 50 question tests. Super interesting course. No readings, no homework, only 3 graded assignments.
Prof. Wood is genuinely one of my favorite teachers ever. His lectures are fascinating, he's a super cool guy, and his classes are all so so interesting. His TA is also pretty easy to talk to, and as long as you actually attend lectures, you'll do well. Yay! Take his class!
Grade is based on 2 midterms, one final, and three homework assignments. Tests are information heavy, but if you use his recorded lectures and unlimited-try quizzes to study, you're guaranteed at least a B. Seems pretty passionate about the class, and its definitely interesting to me. If you study adequately and pay attention in class, Easy A.
Wood is a great professor but very content heavy. If you're unsure of your skills in reading chemistry, don't take him as it's only reading, and very little diagrams to show what's taught. Study guides have very little to do with the exams and studying requires a LOT of time, memorization, and really understanding concepts. Be prepared, start day 1
not accessible and overrated
really easy going professor. class consisted of only 3 assignments and 3 exams, which all can be easily completed if you just go to lectures and take simple notes. the content of the class was also really interesting and he does a good job at explaining topics that might be unknown.
class is just graded based on 3 exams and 3 hw assignments. everything was super straightforward and the content is super interesting. attendance isn't mandatory, but I think going in person to take notes really helps when it comes to studying for exams, plus the lectures are engaging and interesting. professor wood is super approachable and nice!
By far my favorite class at Davis so far! The lectures are so interesting and inspiring, and you essentially only need to attend lecture to know everything to pass. 3 important online homework assignments that are fun and simple- full credit just for turning in. Midterm averages are 45/50 and above. Love this class, highly reccomend! Easy GE.
Really good lectures. Simplifies and explain things clearly a bit differently than my other Biochem professors. You actually understand what is going on. Funny sometimes. Exams are Extremely reasonable. Don't slack on the chemical reports. Only downsides is their TA's and their extremely inconsistent/flat-out wrong grading, They are nice though.
Dr Wood is an amazing teacher and a great person. He genuinely cares about his students and explains the concepts showcasing the importance of toxicology without making it too difficult so even if you know nothing about ETX and take it as an elective you will love this class. He provides all the resources to succeed in the exams & Chemical reports
Dr. Wood is the best!! He explained the housing market to us completely unprompted, and it was very informative. He's extremely knowledgeable in many aspects of toxicology, and well versed in teaching this complex material. highly recommend taking a class with him if given the chance!!
Only curves people below C-, I studied very hard until the second midterm, and he decided to change the grading scale to 67% above, which is equal to C-, unfair to people who worked hard and needed that 3% to secure the A, I decided to switch to PNP and let go of the final.
"Kick back and learn" type of class. Much of the content was self-explanatory and fairly easy with exam questions pulled straight from lecture. Quite simple, so as long as you look at the lectures you'll be just fine. Nice and engaging professor -- would recommend.
Really great professor, he made the class pretty interesting and attendance is not mandatory bc all them are recorded. Super interesting subject, and the class is graded on HW and 2 midterms 1 final.
