It was his first time teaching the class so he was VERY receptive to feedback. Nice and approachable in and out of class; he really wanted his students to do well. Course has a lot of material but for the most part it was well conveyed and I found the midterms to be fair and easy. Non mandatory textbook. Homeworks/quizzes will help boost your grade
First time teaching Microbio and he was amazing! Homework/quizzes/bonus points (grade boosters), 3 midterms and an open book final. He posted learning objectives for the midterms, lecture captures, and slides. Very receptive to feedback. Exams tested us on our understanding of the material and not our ability to memorize all the tiny details.
Best prof of 2019 ! Need to participate in class to suceed as it should be Good looking as well
First time teaching the class. He was really really sweet and super receptive to feedback (e.g. he started recording the class after we asked him to)! He posts a list of learning objectives which really helps for his midterms. Final is open book and I mostly used the textbook for the final. Answers his emails within an hour!
BEST LAB IN UNDERGRAD! Very clear expectations, no surprises, but you have to pay attention to detail in this class. Prof was there with us in the lab. Marked on your understanding and explanations NOT results, so it's okay if something doesnt work. We did CRISPR which was also cool ***HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING THIS PROF FOR MOL BIO LAB!***
He redesigned the course and it was very good. Not everything worked so well but he was very understanding and flexible with the class. Your results don't matter as long as you understand why you didn't get the proper results. You are able to miss a lab or two without a big impact (try not to). The practical and exam were a little tough but fair.
Honestly the best prof I've ever had. Even though we're in a pandemic, he found a way to make the class super entertaining and fun even on zoom! Participation mattered, but the class was so fun that everybody participated without being forced to. Also responds to email very quickly
Prof. Delcourt is sweet and has managed to make online class really fun and manageable. His final was quite difficult but not impossible. If you go to class and review your notes then you will do fine. He also posts all the lectures so attendance isn't that important if you can keep up on your own time.
Super encouraging and wants you to do well, super genuine and is great at explaining concepts in different ways if people are having trouble. Participation is important, and he makes it easy to engage in discussion - don't be shy he is always nice about what you have to say! I can see why he won prof of the year in 2020. 10/10 lad
Make sure to attend class! He explains concepts very clearly. He is an amazing professor who truly cares about his students. Very accommodating professor with very clear expectations. Would recommend to anyone and everyone. He is also humble as well and never talks to students like hes the superior. Very susceptible to feedback too
Professor Delcourt is a really caring prof who genuinely wants his students to succeed. As long as you do your readings you'll do alright in the course.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. As a first year student I didn't expect my classes to be easy, but this professor made it so hard that the whole class average was at a 43% after the first midterm and at a 36% after the second midterm. A few days after each midterm, the class average would magically increase. Part 1
Dr. Delcourt was the other BIO prof, and he is very sweet (especially through emails). His lectures are interesting and not monotoned. Very engaging, and his evaluations are okay, I did pretty good them compared to others. Just make sure you read the textbook, and reread his lectures before any evaluation, and youll be fine. This course was good!
He was really nice! I found the tests a bit hard even though they are open book they require a lot of thinking involved.
He seemed passionate and nice enough, but this class was like eating chalk
My BIO1130 class was so large, with over 1400 students, and was taught by Profs Delcourt, Rundle and Charrette. Awful class, and jeopardized my CGPA. These profs must be tenured, that's the only reason I can think of as to why they're allowed to teach with a class average of well below 50%.
He was the other teacher for the BIO1130 class and seemed quite nice. He offered some practice questions through zoom and wooclap. But his exam questions were nowhere mentioned in his notes or the textbook. He is an okay teacher.
Dr. Delcourt is still new to being a prof but despite this did pretty well. Had practice quizzes (not graded) for each unit to use for studying and office hours which was nice. Exams were hard though and I never felt confident about them, just took a good guess tbh. A LOT of material.
He only taught 1/2 the class with Rundle. Average was below fail for most of semester, make sure you understand & can apply the concepts , don't just memorize. He is a really good speaker though, lectures are interesting and not boring. If you listen to what he says instead of just reading lecture notes you will be fine for tests IMO.
He taught half of my intro to bio course and tried to help us out by providing synchronous review sessions where he went over possible questions and how to answer them to receive marks. Lectures were interesting and he clearly is knowledgeable and passionate about biology.
Definitely not the easiest course. Try not to memorize the concept but think about scenarios where the concept can be applied. The class average wasn't high for the two midterms and hard work is needed. Still nice and kind prof after all.
I'm not sure how I feel about him. I had him right after I had proff Rundle (whose part was a nightmare) so maybe my standards were low but I found him alright. His ppts are super organized, nice animations and music, but for some reason I just found him hard to follow. His exam qs were tough and v specific. Have cell bio w him now too so we'll see
Delcourt is a super nice prof, very accessible outside of class in his synchronous sessions and office hours. He clearly is very passionate about this subject, loves to share his knowledge with others; answers questions in a way that is understandable, and is very approachable. Very caring and offers plenty of practice stuff (definitely do it!)
Good teacher who clearly cares about his students. Midterms and quizzes are quite difficult but synchronous sessions are super helpful!
Great teacher. Presentations are solid. Explains concepts very well and is there to help you through it when you have questions.
Midterms are ridiculous. Questions way too hard. Waste of doing class at this point Ive learned nothing with him that prepared me for exam
I saw prof Delcourt get a lotta bad reviews, probably from someone who didn't study for their midterm and is bitter. I didn't study for the midterm either but it was pretty easy and very fair despite that. He's an amazing prof for online and gives plenty of resources for studying plus a modified grading scheme if you do bad on exams/midterms
Pretty sure all the recent bad reviews are people just upset they didn't study for the midterm (which is a test he didn't design), but if you read the material and followed the lectures, it was all very run-of-the-mill. Lectures are quite engaging, provided notes are very detailed. 4/5
He's a great prof! He pre records lectures and posts them early, makes us quizzes for each module (not marked just for practice), has office hours open for support, and is forgiving in his grading (as is most of the bio profs at UofO). It's a great course, hard as most sciences are, but if you work for it you should do well
He is such an organized teacher that gives so many resources for you to do well. The class is obviously hard as is most science courses but he really wants his students to do well. He hosts synchronous sessions with questions mimicking the exams, provides practice questions and readings, and is readily available to answer any questions. Love him!
Very explicit about what needs to be known! Very much application based so attend his office hours if you can. Great prof whos really well organized and provides ample resources!
Best professor I've encountered! Haters stay mad!
His exams are way too difficult-they dont relate to what he prepares us for/teaches.
one of the few profs that genuinely cares about the students. the exams aren't even bad, alot of the questions are application based so understanding the material helps rather than memorizing. study using the readings, lecture videos, powerpoints and i PROMISE you will do just fine lol
Really not a good prof. Most of the things on the midterm are things that weren't taught in the lectures. I would recommend avoiding him if you get a different prof.
I watched all the lectures, did all the practice questions, attended synchronous sessions, and understood all the material and a handful of the questions on the midterm were still not things that I learned.
Really wish he would do synchronous lectures to make them more engaging :/ I find his asynchronous lectures a little difficult to follow.
Not a forgiving marker at all. He requires answers to be very specific and doesnt grant partial marks for very similar answers
Not a good prof. Exams dont relate to topics covered in class
Gave us a case study that is only available during reading week. Could've picked any other time but had to pick our time off...
Just got midterm 1 back and the marking is ridiculous. If you don't write the exact thing word for word you don't get the mark. Mentioning the concept in any different way counts for nothing.
he does a pretty good job of teaching and explaining the content, but is an extremely hard marker and asks for specific word-for-word descriptions/explanations on exams. He is unreasonable with his marking schemes(no part marks). If you're looking to get a good grade, I'd suggest switching profs.
Cell bio is tough. The lectures are very long and boring but absolutely necessary to watch to get a good mark. We got our midterm marks back and I did much better than expected because I watched the lectures. For open book tests pay attention to the examples provided. One example is always easily applicable to midterm short answer questions.
A very unreasonable marker. Requires word for word answers to obtain even part marks. Claims that tests test your understanding, but if youre explanation doesnt use the exact words, forget it.
Honestly quite a bad professor. Lectures are dull and tests are unreasonable.
His tests are pretty unreasonable especially marking wise. You have to be very specific when answering the questions. No part marks for providing similar answers.
This is why LeBron James is the greatest basketball player of all time.
The multiple choice on the midterms are trick questions, even when you think you have the right answers, they will actually turn out to be wrong.
Very unreasonable midterm marking scheme, if you don't use the exact same words as the marking scheme, you get no marks at all.
His midterms are too hard, very bad marking scheme.
Better to take the french section of cell bio rather than risk your GPA with this horrible prof.
This prof makes sure that the short answer questions on midterms are graded as harsh as possible, please avoid this prof if you can.
I don't know why this prof makes everything in the course so difficult. He made the multiple choice questions on the midterm 1 extremely hard for no reason, they were trick questions.
Please don't take this prof for any bio course, he will kill your GPA and laugh at you. This prof makes the midterms extremely hard for his joy. He also tells the TAs to mark the short answer questions on midterms very harshly, because this prof doesn't care about consistent marking.
Lectures are not captivating and are very long. He makes his exams and tests very unreasonable and expects you to answer the short answer questions word for word or you will not get marks
Not a good professor as he makes the midterms very unreasonable
REALLY GOOD! His lectures are very clear and state exactly what you need to know. He hosts synchronous practice sessions that are extremely helpful for midterm practice. You don't need to read the textbook, his lecture slides are exactly what you need for tests (open book). Tests are challenging but doable if you're familiar with slides content!
Very good prof, easy midterms and exams. minimal textbook readings. Nothing surprising on the midterms/exams 10/10 would reccomend
His tests not only check your comprehension, but you need to MASTER the material to get a decent grade. Very content heavy. Tests are out of very few marks (22 or 23) and have short answer questions. Even his multiple choices require quite a bit of thinking. Don't even bother looking up the questions. This class is NOT a gpa booster. It will humble
His midterms and exams are unreasonably hard, especially the short answers are very harshly graded. His bio course is a gpa killer.
His midterms are not easy and not necessarily hard. But you need to make sure you understand the concepts and have good, detailed notes for each module. Having good and detailed notes has 100% allowed me to get high marks on both midterms, and quizzes. Make sure you study hard, try practice questions, etc, and the course should be manageable.
Had him for BIO1130 and now BIO 1140. Personal learning styles vary from person to person, but I've found that doing the readings before watching the lectures then light review is enough to do well on the exams. For long answer questions, include/incorporate as many key words and concepts as you can and you'll do fine!
Absolutely love prof Delcourt! Midterms and quizzes are challenging as you really need to understand the material but if you watch the lectures and do the readings you should be ok. He is a great person and would definitely take his classes in the future.
please avoid this teacher if you're looking to keep a good GPA, he's very unreasonable with exams and quizzes. His lectures are average but not very captivating and boring. Finding the right material in his lecture notes for quizzes etc. is quite difficult as he doesn't generalize on such topics.
Pretty good professor who's lectures are clear and easy to follow along. It's clear he cares about students and gives lots of resources to help. Midterms/exams are reasonable and you can do well as long as you know the material.
His exams and midterms are HARD. They're easy enough if you've really truly practiced and mastered it. He checks your comprehension hardcore. So you better study. This is not something you can easily control+F
The professor is good at explaining the content in the lecture videos and although the class itself is content-heavy, it is interesting to watch and learn about DNA, RNA, etc. The grading is fair, and the professor does synchronized classes to engage with students even though the class is online. I will recommend this professor!
The exams were not awful as long as you knew your stuff. Otherwise, it was difficult since there were quite a few short-answer questions on each exam. There were also quiet a few quizzes and there was a case study that was to be done during reading week, the quizzes took an annoying amount of time to only be worth 5%.
Dr Delcourt taught the second half of bio1130 and all of bio1140. He was an outstanding prof with clear lectures and very helpful office hours that showed off questions similar to ones seen on assessments. He was approachable and nice. His assessments are straightforward if you understand the slides, but there are many throughout the semester.
Had in BIO1140 and BIO1130. His lectures are very well organized and gives good examples of concepts. In BIO1130, many students messaged about confusion with the first midterm questions. He took the info and made the second midterm much easier to understand. Few profs will actually listen to the students and help when possible and he does.
Very organized and easy to understand lectures, plus he runs a few synchronous sessions with practice questions that are very representative of the evaluations. However, I found that it was really hard to feel prepared for the midterms and exams - I needed way more practice applying the lecture concepts than the synchronous sessions could give me.
Be wary of reviews that bash Delcourt. 2nd class I'm taking with him, & it just reaffirms that he's a great prof. Class was asynchronous but has problem-solving sessions w/ exam-style questions. Answers questions great in office hours. Exams are open book & are very doable IF YOU ACC STUDY FOR THEM. He's not a GPA killer, calm down premeds.
I honestly don't know why people are giving such bad ratings. Delcourt was my favourite teacher first year and he is incredible. Midterms and exam were open book which wasn't even that helpful as his questions focus on understanding the concepts and processes rather than memorizing terms. If you understand the material you'll do well very easily.
Sometimes it felt like he just read off the slides but i guess he explained things pretty well and i got a decent mark so can't complain
Professor Delcourt is a wonderful human being. That being said he is a VERY tough grader. He marked us looking for specific phrases/words. When you need to paraphrase his lectures, it can be hard to hit the right points. The lab was a breeze - Amanda Clairoux ran my section and she was fantastic!
Really cool guy. You can tell he genuinely cares about his students and their success. His recorded lectures were really high quality and explained concepts very well. However, questions on his assignments can be a little vague sometimes, especially since you are often marked on whether your answer contained a key word or phrase.
Interesting lectures and he includes the class throughout the lecture by doing practice questions and allowing lots of questions and discussion. He goes at a good pace and clearly states what it is expected that we know.
Definitely the best professor this university has. Such a nice person, he genuinely cares about his students. I would take his classes again!
his lectures and slides are quite full of info, but its pretty easy to find the important info on them. His lectures are very interesting and he will do practice questions so you get an idea of what may be on the exam. I personally enjoy his lectures as he's very engaging and also is clearly very passionate about biology.
He is very well organized and enthusiastic. Its fun sitting in his lecture classes! The tests aren't easy but absolutely doable and fair if you follow his guidelines.
This teacher makes lectures fun and organizes all the material on Brightspace well. If ever you miss a lecture, the uploaded recording of any past lecture is easy to find and follow. It's true that the tests are hard but as mentioned in class understanding concepts and examples helps get through them. I would totally take a class from him again.
He can sometimes be a bit difficult to understand because of his accent, and sometimes his exam/quiz questions can be a bit vague, but overall, he's a pretty good professor. He tried to use analogies and relatable examples to try to get his point across which I found very helpful.
Ive had him for 2 courses, I really like him. His expectations are very clear, great at explaining concepts. STUDY THE LEARNING GOALS they are used to make exam Qs. The final was easier than the midterms. Just a lot of content to remember, there are things you will need to memorize but mostly understand. If you do that you will get an A no problem
His exams are based off of examples rather than direct questions, which is already stressful considering the amount of information you're expected to retain from memory. He is a caring prof, although he can be hard to follow because of the amount of filler words he uses. If you're not into biology you're gonna hate the course. Wasn't terrible tho
Enjoyed how he interacted with most of his students during lectures and kept us engaged (he would walk around and teach). Nice teacher that seems to care about how his students are doing in the course. His French accent is a bit hard to understand at first, but you'll get used to it.
Professor Delcourt is very smart and passionate, very engaging lectures but the slides can be unorganized and unclear sometimes. Practice questions are sometimes too easy to be of any use for studying, exams are mostly fair but some exam questions are vague or based on specific examples covered in class or details glossed over in the lectures.
Lectures are very engaging with Wooclaps and Delcourt moving all around the lecture hall. Explains content very clearly and is thorough and well spoken in answering any questions.
Like many of the professors here at the university he is great and gives us all the tools to succeed. As long as you learn the learning outcomes and practice continously you will succeed. His research is really interesting and he is also helping in a study for "learning in a large first year science course."
Great professor, he really cares about his students and is happy to slow down his pace if students let him know he is going too fast. The exam questions are a bit hard, but doable if you study and know the concepts well.
he's genuinely so real, very engaging professor
Definitely recommend. Very easy to follow along, resourceful and engaging.
Great prof who cares about his students. Exams are based off of the content in the PowerPoints. He wants you to understand the material and not memorize it so if you take some time to understand the content, very achievable to get in the A's. Not an overbearing amount of work for this class to succeed.
his videos are very fun and you can tell he cares about teaching because he makes his learning activity classes (in person) very interactive and his videos are easy to follow. tests are easy if you learn all the material
I had him online (winter 2022). Nice dude and prof. Content heavy course but open book MTs and final. He held review sessions before each MT which was helpful. MT questions were doable.
He provides so many useful resources including tons of example questions, quizzes, past midterms/finals, and external resources that help so much too! He definitely goes out of his way to make sure this course is understandable and every type of learner has a chance to succeed. He's great and you can tell he loves his job.
His exams are insanely hard. Most of his practice questions are nothing that we've ever been taught, and if you don't put exactly what he wants on short answer you get 0 marks.
Prof. Delcourt has amazing lectures! I had him for the second half of BIO1130 and all of 1140. The different learning activities on wooclap make the class so much fun and not dry. Midterm questions are quite doable. He also uploads previous year's midterm and finals. This year he posted a video on brightspace of all his lecture bloopers, lol.
Gives lots of material to review, cares about our success. Great prof.
Still don't understand why this man won't just do lectures in person. However, he is your guy if you just want an easy A. I didn't attend a single in person class, forgot to do a quiz worth 3% and he still came through. Lab component is a joke. Make sure to watch his recordings on time, because they can accumulate pretty quick!
By far one of the best profs I've ever had. His midterms were pretty fair and easy as long as you do all the learning objectives in the slides, Wooclap quizzes on Brightspace, and past evaluations. Has a great marking scheme that even if you got a 70 on the final, you could still manage to get an A+ with nice midterms and labs. Also a cutie haha.
A lot better compared to BIO1130, he is overall okay. His midterms were incredibly easy compared to what you would expect however his exam felt a lot harder compared to the midterms. His exam are cumulative however each module was equally represented. It is nice to go to his in person practice however it is definitely not needed.
Very dedicated and involved professor. He posts all his lectures, so you can go back and review content any time you want. He puts his students first and always thinks of ways to help us study. Take him if you can.
His exams don't match the content at ALL, his recorded lectures are too long and he goes into detail on topics that are useless. I studied the past exams alongside course notes/lectures and still did terrible. His exam class average for the final was 40%.... which says all it needs to.
I took this class online during covid and he was the type of prof that makes things ridiculously hard because it's open book. Even with access to all my notes, lectures and everything, the exams were still incredibly difficult. Even google couldn't help me. I can't speak about how he is in person so maybe it's better but I'd still avoid.
The midterms were pretty straightforward and easy. Beware the final (very heavy on the last few modules). His in-person classes are really interesting and helpful.
Prof. Delcourt is great. He posted all of his lectures online and held in-person learning activities which helped consolidate knowledge and information. He is very passionate and is always open to answering any questions and is extremely helpful if you attend his office hours. His exams were pretty straightforward.
One of the best profs I've had. He goes above and beyond for his students. He provides lot's of practice material for exams. He is available for a talk outside of class hours. During lectures he will answer questions to ensure that everyone understands. He makes difficult concepts easy to understand. Truly amazing, he will fuel your passion.
love him
slides are not very engaging, lectures are hard to follow along, doesn't explain very clearly.
Prof. Delcout's slides never made sense. None of the things he talked about were ever on the midterms. The modules were organized but the slides were chaotic and very hard to understand. Would not recommend especially if you have trouble with thick accents.
He is a very charismatic prof and you can tell that he really cares about teaching. However, his slides are over-simplified. He does practice questions which were way harder than his midterm, but the midterm itself he was still looking for very specific words/concepts that were mentioned once or not explained thoroughly on slides/lectures.
exam questions are unnecessarily hard and ask about things mentioned very briefly. Slides difficult to understand and he takes off marks if you write certain answers on short answer questions.
get ready to learn how flashcards work amazing prof aside from the midterms occasionally having super random questions on topics that he spent 5 seconds on in class. clearly wants students to succeed though, and the final is super easy compared to the midterms. lecture notes and recordings very accessible, course well organized
I liked this class, but there was a lot of content to learn. He was a good prof, and took the time to explain stuff in detail. He answered emails, and he cared about students success. His exams had questions on very specific topics, so if you didn't know every slide it was a little difficult. The exam was cumulative, but heavy on the last modules.
His midterms and final exam were directly related to course material, obviously biology is not an easy course but if you put in the work, you should have no issues. He was always super helpful when people asked questions, making sure you fully understand before moving on. Overall, he's very organized, smart, and kind, easily one of my fav profs.
i was failed by 1%, i had a 49. they are so strict on grading. its unbelievable, hes a bit better than prof rundle lecture wise. but the exams are terrible i studied over 40 hours for finals and still failed. No exam prep only a bunch of question that may or not be on the exams.
Very good lecturer. He always made sure everyone understood everything, and he saved my average. I prefer him much more than Rundle for this course.
Better than Rundle fs. His part of the course was easy to follow and understand.
Nice hair, meh prof
Really good guy and very compassionate towards students. Kept class engaging even with pretty boring topics but tests/exams were fairly difficult. Does review and in-class Q&As which is helpful. Overall good prof but be ready to study and participate in class.
Very nice professor that cares about his students. He also posts his lectures on brightspace which was helpful and he is very easy to reach. I know I would have gotten a better grade if I studied more. Obviously the course is not easy but you'll do just fine with a decent amount of studying.
Very knowledgeable, good lectures for an introductory biology course.
Super nice dude really passionate about his stuff. A lot of content was covered but if you study you can get a good grade
Made the second half of the course significantly more interesting. Much more engaging in his lectures than Rundle.
Honestly, the hate towards him is not justified. For those intentionally leaving low ratings, your inability to answer the questions on the midterm is not his fault. He provided numerous resources and tips on how to succeed and you chose to ignore him and the course material and thus you failed accordingly. Blame yourself for your own misfortunes!
Elegant and brilliant
Delcourt's side of the semester really saved my bio grade as his material is way less heavy than Professor Rundle. He's also very engaging and does his best to make sure you understand the material. Honestly just a great chill guy. Though I would recommend taking an earlier session through the day, evening can be a lil heavy and make you sleepy.
BIO1130 was taught by him during the second half. Safe to say the second half was better lol. Lectures were engaging and he made them interesting. Midterm for his half wasn't bad. Found it easier than the first midterm. Overall, good prof. Probably one of the better choices for bio profs.
Prof. Delcourt was a fantastic professor to have for the second half of BIO1130. The course content isn't the most interesting, but he often cracks jokes and is a fun presence in general during his lectures. Get ready to study hard, since it is BIO1130, but he is not the most difficult grader in terms of the actual content.
Lectures are recorded, slides are complete. Exams aren't bad if you study.
Great professor overall, you can tell he knows his stuff and he makes sure to go over any concepts that were harder to grasp; he also constantly asked the class if everyone understood before moving on. The class itself is decently heavy, but as long as you reread the slides, you won't get any surprises.
Pretty good prof tasked with teaching one of the most boring/frustrating classes. He really wants you to understand and gives very thorough explanations. Grading is heavily based on keywords, which makes it pretty strict - but that is a reflection on BIO1130 more than Delcourt himself. Pretty good guy.
The lectures are clear, and the prof tries to engage the class. Tests can be challenging, but going to study sessions and using tools like unstuck ai for prep really helps. Overall, a decent course if you put in the work.
The class is pretty heavy, a lot of material and the final is cumulative so if you don't understand ask questions! Delcourt loves to answer questions in or after class and makes sure everyone understands before moving on. The quizes, midterms and final are really graded based on keywords/examples so make sure you write down what he says in class.
Only taught half of the topics as lectures were split w another prof. He was engaging during lectures which keeps you more awake. Lecture content is heavily evolution based. Lots of material to know for midterms and final. Make sure to attend lectures and office hours to help further explain content cuz it gets rough.
Class was super hard. And very hard to study for...
Matthieu is a super caring prof and makes his lessons very engaging. He wants his students to understand and gives a lot of examples while teaching concepts. The class itself was kinda tough, but if you go to the lectures and study you'll be good. The content was super interesting and it was definitely my favourite class.
#poker #legend
Delcourt is a tough grader but his lectures are much better than Rundle because he doesn't just read off the slides, he actually gives examples and explains the concepts to us. I like this guy i think
He is definitely more interesting to listen to than Rundle, the content is just boring regardless. I found the difficulty of both midterms to be relatively even but it's all memorization so you have to study A LOT. Overall not a terrible prof, just a boring subject.
He has a bit of a hard time explaining things but tries really hard and is an overall good prof.
BIO 1540 is a more difficult course but Delcourt puts so much effort into making sure the class understands and will explain in different ways if u don't. He does review session where u can ask a bunch of questions and it really helps. The midterms and exam are very reasonable, you just need to know key concepts for most of it
He's really nice and engaging. Has a good attitude and answers questions. Doesn't just read off a slide, he KNOWS what he's talking about. His midterm is usually easier for most people but I personally found it hard bc some parts were oddly specific parts of the lecture.
Not a terrible prof, just didn't find him particularly engaging. Assessments were fair.
This class is heavy but the prof makes it easy to understand and gives us every thing we need to comprehend the concepts. He makes revision periods before exams with practice questions and makes sure to go over all the concepts that the class didn't retain. Would definitely take this class again!
He was good! At first his French accent was a bit of a challenge for me to understand, I got used to it. He's very passionate and cares very much about his students.
Lovely man, way better than Rundle. Knows his stuff, walks around class when talking, which is very engaging. Midterm was fair, but TAs mark so hard, barely giving out partial marks. Pops jokes here and there - overall a good prof.
Probably the most well rounded prof at uOttawa. Very respectful, lectures are engaging, expectations are clearly outlined, brightspace is super well organized w/ recorded lectures and practice quizzes, and his examinations are super fair. He would probably have a higher rating if it wasn't for BIO1130 (the course sucks, not him) Take Delcourt!!!
As his first time teaching the class, Dr. Delcourt is doing a great job. He made sure to emphasize some concepts from first year to make sure we understand. Wooclap problems in class are nice as a way to practice and he sometimes did the problems himself in great detail. His assessments are very fair and he is kind and available after class.
Take him if you need to take genetics. He is very caring and does such a good job at explaining concepts. Exams are very fair and are representative of the learning objectives. 10/10
Amazing professor, great at teaching concepts. Marking schemes felt nit-picky sometimes but he was always available to answer questions and final was fair and reflective of learning outcomes and course content. Went out of his way to make sure students understand concepts when they became difficult.
Delcourt is the goat! You can tell he really cares about his students. He records his lectures, but I still recommend going because he does interactive wooclap quizzes that helped me engage with the material. Provides practice midterms/finals. Tips for success in this class: LEARNING OUTCOMES, study groups, practice problems that HE GOES OVER.
Love this prof for bio courses! Explains things well and really tries to answer questions, posts lots of practice although the practice questions are much easier than exam questions. He also records the lectures which helps a lot. Unfortunately it's the lab that brought my grade down which sucks because the lecture portion was great
Prof explains everything so well, and clarifies anything that students ask him to. Provides practice midterms (past years). Midterms are very easy if you study, and 100% reflect course content (slides). Study the stuff in bold. Prof tells you important vs not important content.
Awesome teacher! very passionate about his subject
There's a lot of content for each section. The teacher is reading the slides more than explaining the content. Is not clear in his exam questions.
he is a very tough grader, very hard exams and final and if you have to choice to choose a different prof; DO IT!
Professor Delcourt is truly a gem! He has made my first semester so much more enjoyable in Bio1130, since switching to him as the lecturer (topic 7+) my understanding has significantly increased. Although attendance isn't mandatory, I would recommend going as he makes a somewhat difficult and boring subject into a fun and less difficult one!
His voice is sorta addictive.. like the organic chemistry tutor guy. Overall very nice prof and chill guy he explains things clearly giving context as opposed to rundle who says concepts straight up is more so just lectures. You wont feel outta place w delcourt.
He is very nice and helpful, but his exams are impossibly hard. He marks very harsh and his exam questions are very vague, so I would recommend avoiding this class if you can. The course itself is hard and very content heavy.
I love Mr. Delcourt. He was such a refreshing change of pace from Rundle. Hes clearly passionate and engaged during his lecture and his content. He asks very fair and straight forward questions, no tricks, and he isnt lying when he says he creates questions while looking at the learning outcomes. I love him!
Professor Dolcourt was genuinely really good. His slides were conceptually rich and easy to follow, and he explained the topics well during the lecture. His midterm was fair, and his lectures are engaging. He provided live specimens to support his explanation and gave the impression of a prepared and caring professor.
