Good lectures, bad exams
Her classes suck.....Dont take her...
Tests are impossible. If you do well on the tests, you would be qualified to teach the course. Great teacher in class, very helpful out of class. Her tests are not a reflection of the subject matter covered in class. Also, NO curve!
Very nice teacher...but I think she uses this class as a weed-out class. 40% of the class dropped--mostly because she grades so hard! Be prepared to take Chemistry twice to pass it! Good Luck!
she sucks!!! DO NOT TAKE!!
Nice Lady, but AVOID!!!!
Very very difficult - great teacher, clear lectures, but her tests are entirely too difficult, and her lab expectations are too much (for a 1 credit course). I got my first C in this class, along with 2 other "straight-A'ers" who didn't drop th
Very organized and also very helpful. The class is very hard, but can be passed if you work very hard and really study. I was constantly in her office before and after class to get answers. I recommend her to many students that have yet to take chem.
Tests are difficult but she is a wonderful teacher. She knows what she teaches. If you just want an easy grader, don't take her. If you are willing to learn something, she is the one.
Her lectures are very clear and she is very helpful outside of class. I've taken four other Chem. teachers at GPC (Dunwoody) and they were aweful and didn't compare to her. Tests are challenging but it's because of the subject of the class not her teachin
Lectures very good. Tests difficult because it is a difficult subject matter. People seem to blame her tests for not doing well in the class. Don't believe this is fair.
Great lectures, great teacher. Tests are incredibly difficult. If you are planning on going on to other endeavors such as med school, dental school, etc., DO NOT TAKE HER! If you take her, you are taking a big risk with your future!!!
Very good prof., helpful, considerate. Difficult tests and minimal extra credit (time consuming). I would still take her as a chem prof.

This is not a easy subject, but with the professor making herself available, I was able to pull myself from a D on the 2nd test to a A on the 3rd. If your having a hard time deciding who to take, she would be my choice!
Take her lab, she is awesome. She is not hard for lab, her final exam is standardize from the department. So eventhough its hard she did not made it up
Where do I begin? Great lady. Great teacher. But I DO NOT RECOMMEND TAKING HER!! Especially if you are trying to get into Pharm. or Med. school. You will be making a huge mistake if you take her. I believe she gets a kick out of confusing people. Odd but true.
She's very thorough and if you pay attn, study at home and do the end of chapter problems you'll be fine. Her tests are straight forward and she doesn't blindside you. She gives you very thorough notes. Chemistry is hard if you don't study so study up and you'll be fine.
I thought that she was very unhelpful. When I asked for help, she stated that she didn't have time to explain...we had to keep moving.
wonderful teacher as long as you, the student, do your part in keeping up with your end of the deal (ie studying).
She presents material clearly, but goes slow over easy stuff and too fast over the more difficult material. Tests are very hard. I have 3.9 average and got a C. Almost half the class withdrew after beginning, when they found out how hard it was.
She is a very nice lady, and help you a lot. Exmas are hard. Very tricky questions. As long as you study a looooot, you will be fine. No estra credits.
SHe is very good teacher, she explain very good.ALSo, she is very very helpfull. Her test are easy if you study for them. Most of the qustion in the test are from her lecture. Also, she adds 3 point to your final grade if you do the chem soft wore . i realy enjoy her clas. finall,i am a motheof two
this professor is to intelligent for her own good. if you want to pass this class don't take her she will really turn you off to the suject. she was never willing to help and when you would ask a question she would make you feel like an idiot and then just not answer it because she didnt have time.
I recomend her to everyone. She is wonderful.
She's the best Chem teacher I've ever had! Goes in a logical order-explains everything well-tests by her notes. Her tests are a little tough but if you went to class, practiced at home, & studied your notes then you're fine. Nice lady-easy to approach for outside help if needed.
This teacher is nice but confusing. She teaches the material in the most complicated way possible, and never has time to answer questions. Even if you do ask a question it is never answered properly.
she teachs like you have an Phd already. Questions during class are not allowed.I have a 4.0 GPA and I'm dropping her class.Very smart and know chem very well, but does not know how to explain it to beginners. If you are willing to tach yourself and hire a tutor you'll be fine. Tests are very hard.
She teaches as though everyone has retained every morsel of chemistry ever fed to them. She walks and talks all around your questions instead of answering them. The term benefit of the doubt is unknown to her. She is more into a seminar type lecture than she is actual teaching. (ie, no ?'s)
Wow! I just realized RMP can go both ways! I took her b/c she had lots of positive posts but she expects you to know what she is saying already. She says something and expects you to grasp it. Her tests are extremely difficult and 1/2 of the questions are NOT from lecture. I wont take her for 1152!!
She is a good teacher. I took only her lab class. She explains each lab pretty clear. She is willing to help when you ask her question. But, it is not easy to get high grade unless you work hard everyweek, and get smallest percent error possible. She grades on the result of an experiment.
Very sweet and smart but only for herself.Thought my first 'f' was my fault, hired a tutor, dropped another class to study more, got an 'd' on next test. I regret I didn't dropp her class like the others.Extremelly hard tests, she wount prepare you for them at all.No study guides, no help!
Her tests often do not reflect what is taught in class. She told a student that if her overall grade is a 69.5. That will be her grade. She will not bump you up to a C. I would not recommend her unless you love chemistry and did well in it in highschool.
was told not to take her, but didn listen, she is terrible. didn't understand one thing she was talking about. book was hard, but she was harder. talked above your head and thought you were supposed to understand. doesn't give any breaks, and test are very very hard. don't take her, and you'll pass.
Unless you are already a Dr. in Chem do not take her. should be fired. She is not only hard, she teaches hard subjects in the last 5 min of class. Don't aloud questions during lecture. Don't give review sheets her study guides are the sylabus. Very unhelpful.
dr burkart was a very good teacher. im not sure what the others who posted had a problem with but if you need extra help she is willing to help you. she has a limited time in class to get through all the material. i paid attention in class and gave minimal study otherwise and got an A for the semester. highly recommended.
She is a very hard professor! She doesn't allow questions till the end and she is not on an entry level to be teaching this class. She offers no extra credit and the test questions are very unclear!!
She is easy if you write down everything in lecture and re-read the chapter a few times, you should do fine. She tests mainly from her notes. I would definitely recommend her if you're willing to put in some time studying.
Dr. Burkart should've been an algebra teacher... that's all you'll do in her chem classes. I know almost nothing about chemistry, but I can cross-multiply fractions like a ****.
if you want a professor who talks over your head, here she is. her tests are very difficult and she really expects that you should know much more than you do going into the class. if you need this class to take get into any other i caution you. for the sake of your gpa and sanity do not take this woman.
run the other way. not helpful at all. she must not realize that this is an entry level class. we are not chemists that is the reason we are in this class. i think she teaches with the idea that everyone is as smart as she is.
This lady sucks!!! She is the worst teacher I ever had. I even went to her for help and she did not supply any helpful information. It was a wasted trip to her office. I failed the class. I took the class at the Clarkston campus, Dr. Lampe and got a A. Now she is wonderful teacher!!!
I started off in her class but dropped b/c I was working and didn't have the time to commit. Took chem in summer semester with another teacher who wouldn't help you. I came to Dr. Burkhart a lot duing her office hours, and she very graciously helped clarify things I didn't get. Sig figs are very important!
Chemistry is a hard subject period. But this instructor did not take any ease off of your mind. Tests difficult, did not pass this class, I had a 3.5 GPA before this class---disappointed yes, taking her again- no way --
She was extremely helpful and always available to answer questions. Even though this was a lab course, she helped me with lecture topics and I wasn't enrolled in her lecture class. Be very thorough in what you record in your lab book (sig figs, physical properties of reactants/reagents, etc.) and be very detailed for analysis sheets and reports.
I like her... she explains things in the most basic way, not that chemistry is basic! I think her tests are a little difficult by I have still been able to maintain a good grade.
She is a great teacher, excellent style, but really tricky tests...had an A going into her clas, coming out with a B...Really cool lady but I would not take her again.
RUN for the sake of your GPA run.
She is not that easy;however, she explains info very good. Also, she is always willing to help anyone. I would recommend taking her. You will not get a A unless you understand the material.
Explains alot in class, but is very much into the concepts and the algebra in chemistry. She is very nice, but is a strict grader.
Tests are extremely difficult. Extra credit does not help any. Would never recommend for anybody to take her.
had her spring 2005. shes the best chemistry teacher in GPC, and I admire her. Dr. Burkert is recommended for those really wanna learn chemistry(if ur premed or prepharmacy). Her tests are not easy at all. but ud be glad that ud taken her class when u go for orgo. I strongly recommend Dr. Burkert for Chem, and Mr. Rusodimos for Calc! best teachers!
I don't know how I would have gotten through Chem with out her!! She is great at explaining very complex ideas in a way that is easy to understand!! Her tests aren't that hard as long as you study and pay attention. If you can't do that you shouldn't be in college.
She's not my favorite teacher, but she's okay. Her class is really easy if you pay attention in class. If you generally have trouble with math and chemistry, you may have a bit of trouble. Her tests are a little tricky because of the multiple choice section that makes up the majority of the test. If you take this class, BE PREPARED TO STUDY!
This class is impossible. I have A's and B's in all my other classes and am struggling to make a C in her class. Her tests are impossible, even with studying. She is nice, but her class is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT!! I was good at Chemistry before her class, now I feel completely confused!
Hell on earth. We read the chapters, do homework and Chem Skill buider for extra credit which only gives 2 points for a load of work, Go to her office at least twice a week with my group mates....All of us all had D at the end of the semester. DON"T TAKE HER Or YOU WILL REMMEBER HER FOR THE REST OF YOUR CARREER B/C A BAD GRADE WILL STICK WITH U FOR
She is the best chem teacher at GPC. Her class is hard, but this is College not high school. If Chem is your major take her. She is the best.
All she gives are tests. You gIVES NO EXTRA WORK OR QUIZ. Don't take her unless you are a good test taker because your grade will depend on it.
I think that she means well but her tests are very tricky. When I took her, I studied so hard but it still didn't give me a good grade. I did every problem at the end of each book but when it came to her test questions, it wasn't pretty. If you take her, get ready for the Tests. Make sure you know everything.
I loved this class. Her presentation of the material was well organized, clear and concise yet thorough. I was not looking forward to taking this class. It was required for my degree, but I ended up liking it so much that I decided to pursue chemistry further. This semester I'm taking Chem 1211, and my instructor ( Bill Snyder) is aweful.
teaches greast but gives difficult tests you have to be hardworking to mtake her class
She's very nice. Chemistry is never easy, but Dr. Burkart repeats your question so the class can hear it and she answers all questions for you. Study your notes VERY WELL. Good Luck!
She is not a good teacher. Her test are hard and very tricky. She over explains the concepts. If you are a pre-nursing student she is not worth taking, save your money because you probably will not pass.
She's great.Perfect 4 the student that thinks deeplyand wants to really wrap her brain around concepts. She's very clear in what to study and what she expects. She's amazing at putting things into words clearly. Her tests are hardbut def not impossible she really teaches you chemistry and sets you up4success.BUT u only do well if u study and work hard
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! Specially if are not good at taking test. All you have is four test and 3 bonus points added onto your average BUT in order to get them you have to buy an additional software. Once u purchase it you must complete TONZ and TONZ of questions. ITs tiring and ridiculous. BE READY TO STUDY!!! At least 20hours a wk, in order to succee
Very nice and helpful..BUT the tests are tricky and she gives a comprehensive national final that is 1211 and 1212...insane...would not reccommend for your GPA...
NOT EASY TO GET A, BUT YOU WILL LEARN THE CHEMISTRY WILL IN HER CLASSES. IF YOU WANT TO BE A DOCTOR OR A PHARMASCISTS TAKE HER SO YOU WILL BE FINE IN P-MCAT
(Chem Lab)Her labs are fair. Weekly quizes are somewhat difficult. Do not miss any labs; it will significantly affect your GPA. Overall, a fair professor. If you love Chemistry, definitely take her, otherwise read more comments.
tHE REAL PROBLEM IS 1151 IS A COMPLEX COURSE WITH LOTS OF FORMULAS UNDERLINE FORMULAS (ITS HARD NO MATTER WHO YOUR PROF IS) THE BOTTOM LINE IS SHE KNOWS HOW TO TEACH THIS SUBJECT, I KNOW I TOOK THIS COURSE FOR THE SECOND TIME, FIRST TIME WAS WITH KISSEL OMG. SHE IS ALWAYS AVALIABLE, KNOWLEDGEABLE AND YES CHALLENGING. YOU'll BE GETTING YOUR MONEY'
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! she can teach but if you don't understand she can't really explain to you. Test are VERY HARD!!! 4 exams and 3 pts. bonus if you do like 500-600 questions on the chemskill builder, which is a extra software you have to buy.go another campus if u have to but don't risk your grade! some uga students and me got a D
She really is a great teacher.... she is challenging however she just wants u to really learn chemistry! If you study alot and stay on top of things you will do great. Read her tests carefully they can be tricky. Overall i really enjoyed her class... very nice and willing to help.... but you got to ask and come with questions! Take her
Burkart is a good teacher, she's very clear, BUT her freaking tests are IMPOSSIBLE! She doesnt offer much extra credit, so your final grade depends on the average of all the tests. I mean it aint easy to make a B or an A in there unless you're really good at chem.
I love Dr. Burkart, She will go out of her way to help you. Listen if evrything was so easy it wouldn't be worth having. Besides how is the USA suppose to compete with the rest of the world if we cant do basic chemistry. Quit your crying and just learn it.You'll be better for it and much more smarter.
She is an outstanding teacher! Her explanation and use of examples were extremely clear. Although she will make you study harder (she is not an easy grader), you will get what you worked for. Keys to be successful in her class is to do all of the "end of chapter problems" prior to the exam. I got A in her class and lab. Good luck!
DO NOT TAKE HER, WE WERE AROUND 50 PEOPLE IN MY CLASS AND LESS THAN 10 PASSED, EVEN WE WERE ALL A+ STUDENTS. SHE DOESN'T EXPLAIN WELL AND HER TEST ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT THAN THE QUESTIONS ON THE BOOK AND WEBSITE. THE FINAL WAS THE EASIEST TEST!!!!!!!!!
the truth...she explains things really well but her tests are hard. If u're not a regular A+ student, DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT take her class.
HORRIBLE!!! Teaches well during lectures but if you ask her a question personally she can't explain. If you don't get at least a B on the first exam and a D on 2nd then DROP IT!! DO NOT listen to her and stay in the class.
Dr. Burkhart was one of the best professors I've ever had. Chemistry is a tough science, so don't expect a cake class, but she makes hard concepts easy to understand. I appreciate her grading system and her class structure. She is always VERY well prepared and uses many outstanding visual aids.
She`s a great teacher for people who would like to go to med school or engineering otherwise don`t take her.at the end you`ll hate her but it`s your fault.tests are hard but worth it!she explains everything really great!makes jokes in class.
Best chemistry teacher I have ever had...strongly recommended
Burkart is a good person but her test are soooo hard. You get 4 test all multiple choice so no partial credit and your final. She is nice enough to drop your lowest but that may not help you. I generally make A's and B's, but i barely got a C in her class. Just be prepared to master every single concept if you take her, seriously.
I love her class soooo much. She is a very nice and helpful teacher. She explain everything very clear, and ask her questions if you don't understand. Do the internet chem that she told you. It helps a lot. if you study and do the HW problems, you'll be fine. Mizz her lecture so much.
She is a very nice person, however that doesn't matter when learning a science such as Chem. She covers material VERY fast, adn doesn't take time to explain it. She is condensending and not helpful at all. I recommend you taking this class online, than to take her. SHe is a very DIFFICULT teacher, and overall quite mediocre.
I really dont understand what the last person talking about she is the best chem teacher i ever had in my life however she is not easy teacher. the test is not easy but if you attend in class and get the topics you be fine and the test will be easy she is awesome.thanks dr Burkart
She is good at lecturing except what she lectures about is not on the test. Her test questions are tricky and are not "direct to the point questions."
Honestly, she's a great teacher. I hate chemistry but I loved her class because she's full of knowledge and knows exactly what she's teaching... HOWEVER, her tests are very hard. I had to drop the class because my grades were extremely low. If you want to pass the class, you better study ALOT and you'll definitely learn too.
Good teacher, but tests are tricky! If you're looking for an easy "A" you're picking the wrong class lol
She is a good prof, but she comes with way more baggage then most ppl would like. She teaches the rule and the one exception, but somehow the one exception to rule ends up on the test. So tests are really hard. REALLY HARD. I have a 3.8 GPA and a science major who took the class to beef up my electives for Mercer and I had to drop the class. FLEEE
I took Burkart last semester.....I still regret taking her, I had a 4.0 GPA and made a very high B in her class after studing like hell. If u r a nursing major "donot" I repeat do not take her.
When I was taking her 1211 class, I thought she was extremely difficult. I studied my butt off and still didn't do that great. BUT I transfered to UGA the next semester and I truly appreciate her teaching approach now! If you are a science major, she would be a great teacher for you to take if you plan on transfering to a higher institution.
She is hard but a very very good teacher. Study her notes and read the chapters and you'll do good. Her tests are very hard and tricky but you will learn from this class. Chemistry is not an easy course but she is very good at explaining and wants you to learn!
she is not good
This teacher is extremely hard. She takes a glimpse of your notebook and give you a very harsh grade without really looking at it. You will do a lab discussion and will not get your paper nor your grade back; thereby leaving you clueless about your overall grade. Unless you are content with a B in the class and do not care about the material, go fo
Dr. Burkart is a nice professor who, while firm, will help you out. The only reason you don't get an A or B in her class/lab is if you don't study.
Wow, I took her more than a year ago. She was still one of the best professor I have ever had. She is nice and easy to talk. We wont stop at a 2 year degree, but keep going on to BS or MS. So. strike for it. 4.0 GPA does not matter if you dont get the material. I would love to take her for Organic Chem.
I liked Dr. Burkart. But the subject did not like me. She has great office hours, but she goes pretty fast during her lectures. She does ask for questions after each topic, but she is extremely knowledgeable of the subject, so it makes it difficult for her to relay the information sometimes. She is great for students with a chemistry background.
Hard. Hard. Hard. Had her for lecture. Heard her lab was a nightmare. Study the notes. Do the sample problems. Read the book. Chem does not come easy to me, I really had to work to get a C. That involved hours of weekly study/reading/practice, on top of the other hours for lab prep. YUCK.
Please do not take her for chemistry 1211 nor 1212, for she is does not like to explain or teach anything. If u care about your GPA do not take her, she will ruin your grade.
VERY GOOD PROFFESOR. SHE COVERS THE MATERIAL VERY WELL. THE TEST ARE BASE ON PURE KNOWLEDGE, THEY ARE HARD BECAUSE YOU REALLY HAVE TO KNOW THE MATERIAL. YOU ACTUALLY LEARN CHEMISTRY IN HER CLASS AND IF YOU EVER NEED HELP PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ASK HER. SHE WILL HELP! DON'T THINK YOU WONT NEED TO STUDY, STUDY ATLEAST 15 HRS FOR EACH TEST! I AM SERIOUS
her tests are tricky and full of excess steps. she might say i wont test you on this, but in reality she will. test=fail in life. this will make your gpa=1.0. dont take her. you will die (in chem)
If your looking for an easy A, she is not the instructor for you; however she was a great teacher. You have to earn your grade in her class, but she is very helpful. If you have any question see her during her office hours. she is patient and really wants you to learn.
Dr. Burkart is not incredibly hard. Tests may be a little tricky but as long as you study, don't slack off and approach the tests with a clear head, this class is not difficult. Her lab is not hard per say but the notebook process is pretty tedious. I took the same class in a major institution and she was infinitely better.
Great teacher!!! Dr.Burkart is very organized with the presentation of material and fair on tests. Studying hard is a must, but if you put in the time the questions are not tricky. She is an extremely helpful teacher and willing to spend much time with the students. All around really good and super professional.
Dr.Burkart is a great chemistry teacher. She is clear, organized, very patient and helpful for students willing to put in the work. It's an intense course, but if you put in the time you will not hurt your GPA. Highly recommend taking her course.
Dr. Burkart was very thourough in her teaching. She made a complex subject enjoyable. She is very helpful and will explain anything you don't understand. Grading is 4 tests (drop lowest) plus final. Online homework counted 5%. If you are willing to work and want to learn a lot, Dr. Burkart is the instructor to take.
i love her... she is amazing. i'm not one of those students where everything comes easy, but she makes chem so easy to understand. she takes her time you never feel rushed. her tests are multiple choice and very fair. if i could of taken her for 1212 i would of. she's a great choice!!! take her!!
I took her for 1211 too. Rework the problems from class and do the online homework, its annoying but do it. Dont do the end of chapter questions, to the example problems throughout the chapter. write down everything, a bathroom break may cost you a text question. be able to explain your math. go to her office, SUPER helpful and nice.
for lab she did everything she was supposed to do as a teacher. I thought the quizzes she gives were unfair and it was often unclear what was supposed to be turned in at the end of lab. --i'd rather write a lab report. She is helpful and explains everything much better than other Chem lab instructors. She's very approachable.
I took both chem 1201 and 1202 and got A's. Her multiple choice part is really a joke(if you know how to think). Her free response part is little tricky. She KNOWS WHAT SHES TEACHING. Tons of examples to help u. She has passion to help u as well. To those who are saying that her class is hard: just dont take chem.
Dr. Burkart is an amazing instructor, she cares about her students. I totally love her style of teaching and recommend her to anyone who wants to learn chemistry from a true scientist. Kudos Dr. B!!!
Dr. Bukart grades you HARD. Her tests are multiple choice and maybe two questions with short answer, which leaves little to no room for partial credit. In my class there were three people copying, I am sure they were the only ones who passed the class.
She rushes through topics, like she's trying to cover a topic in 5min or less so she can move to the next! She jumps around topics, you can never find what she's talking about in the textbook..one minute she's on one page, next minute another page, the next minute, back on first page. She doesn't explain fully. She assumes we already know!
shes so educated, but if GPA is important to you, NEVER EVER take with her, she gave me my first C in science classes. For lab every week you have quiz and she grades so hard
Dr. Burkart is a good teacher. I didn't have to refer to my text often - Her lectures were enough to explain the material. I am not gifted in the science department, so this class was HARD for me. I don't think it is a reflection of her teaching, but the material itself.
DO NOT TAKE HER! She is one of the worse, if not the worst professor I have ever had in all of my college career. She makes everything harder than what it's supposed to be. She teaches the material as if everyone is on the same level of her understanding. Her exams are nearly impossible to finish without running out of time.
Absolute nightmare! Don't take her. She doesn't care if you understand the material or not, just as long as she cover her curriculum.
Tests: are not like the homework at all, they cover stuff she does not go over in lecture, are incredibly lengthy, are hard and tricky. HW: OWL homework is not that long, but just like the tests, it does cover stuff she does not even mention in class. You will find yourself learning a lot on your own (that's if you do study). Cool lady, though.
Absolutely fantastic chemistry teacher, thorough, clear, and always willing to sit with you and get you on the right track. She has an open door policy and is a joy to work with when your having difficulty. Definitely recommend her and would take her again. If you want a good understanding of chemistry shes the one to take.
Her lectures were hard to focus on, they didn't match her tests, the tests were insanely difficult, 4 tests (she drops the lowest one). Tests are 66% of your grade, HW is 9% and the final is 25%. The HW is done on OWL and you have to pay $100 to get the code for it. The HW is lengthy but you have about a month to do it. IT doesn't help for tests.
Taking her, the worst decision of my life!. She is a nice person, BUT not as a professor. She explains the topics very superficial, and her tests are just IMPOSSIBLE with very tricky questions. The homework through OWL is easy, but you will have tremendous amount of questions that just count for the 9% of your grade! No partial or extra credit!:(
Not the worst professor but no where close to the best. Her tests are extremely tricky and nothing she talks about in class are on the exams.
Dr. Burkart is the worst professor I've took by far! Her tests are extremely tricky and very are different from what she teaches in class! I wouldn't recommend her if you care about your GPA or if you want to learn chemistry! SHE'S A NIGHTMARE!!!
Like any science you need to study, do the Mastering Chemistry, do the extra pages she gives, do the problems in the book if you have to. Offers office hours, and gives tutoring schedule wants everyone to pass. Let's healthcare majors know what's important. Tests are tricky so you need to know your stuff. Overall I liked her and would take again
Her tests were very tough. All of her tests are multiple-choice and her lectures did not cover most of the questions. There is a recitation course to help out who wants to review but that did not help either. Do not recommend.
Goes pretty fast, willing to listen if you have problems but isn't always very good at explaining differently. You probably need tutoring to get a good grade if chemistry isn't your thing.
This teacher is extremely difficult, exams cover stuff NOT covered in lectures. Tests are multple choice, (Class exam average was 65-75%). 4 tests (1 dropped) make 66% of your grade, final is 25% (ACS exam) and HW is 9% . NO extra credit or recorded lectures, . Over half of the class dropped out. If you can take someone else! BEWARE!
Took for CHEM1211 and CHEM1212 and CHEM1211 LAB if you want to go to a hard school like GA Tech you will thank her later!
4 tests and she drops the lowest one, the catch is, the online homework does not help you prep for the tests at ALL. They are very time consuming (4-6 hrs per chapter) and they don't present the material in the same way the tests do. You would be much better off doing problems from the book and reading, but the mandatory HW cuts into that time.
do not take her
Very nice, kills GPA. Almost impossible to pass her exams.
I really do like her as a person. She is very sweet. However, her exams are so much harder than you can ever expect from her way of teaching. There is a crazy amount hw that takes forever but does not help at all on the exams bc her questions are trickier.
She is nice and caring but tests really hard. She spends a little time on each chapter. She wont post the grade of the final exam.
Taking CHEM1211 over the summer was hard because it was so fast paced, but Dr. Burkart was great. She explains things in a way that is relatively easy to understand. She is always available for extra help and questions. The test were manageable if you were willing to put in work. Of course the class and lab is going to be hard, it's chemistry.
She is the best If you study you get an A for sure She make chemistry very simple to understand
I loved her class but chemistry is not an easy subject. If you pay attention in class and do notes you will pass. She gives you all the work you need to do to make an A. So if you do it you have nothing to worry about
She seemed great at first but very scatter brained. She gave really hard quizzes and I maintained a high B all semester until her final when I bombed it. It was so hard and nothing like she said it would be. She also gave no criteria on her lab notebooks and then gave off silly points on lab pages when I would forget to write my lab partners name.
HORRIBLE!!!!! RUUUUUUUUN!!!!! She can not teach which is a shame. Chemistry is a hard course and if the professor can't teach and can't explain doesn't matter if she/he thinks is intelligent.
Spring: Went by the syllabus, homework isn't worth as much but good for practice. There are 4 important quizzes. One is dropped. DO NOT DEPEND ON YOUR PHONE, STUDY! The final carries a lot of weight, we only had 55 minutes but she wasn't the one who set it, it was the same for some other classes, I did well on it. In conclusion STUDY.
Dr. Burkart is an excellent professor. Honestly, when I see all these ratings here I do not understand why most of them are negative. She truly means well and she is always open to answer questions and help out. Be prepared for working hard tho. I would definitely take Dr. Burkart again, again, and again! TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO LEARN.
She's very kind and always available if you're needing help. She doesn't really teach, I spent most of the semester teaching myself the work, im amazed i passed with a C. Theres always classwork so go to class because its a big portion of your grade! Very few practice work, moves quickly through chapters & LOTS of homework every week.
Professor Burkart is demanding, but fair. Expect to work hard, but you'll learn a lot. Attend class, do the homework, and use resources like Unstuck AI - it really helps with study prep.
Homework is nothing like the tests, and there's a lot of homework on Cengage. You need to self-teach to prepare for the tests fully. She is very kind, and I feel bad for her because it's not her fault the content was challenging. However, she has prepared you well for the departmental final.
I took her for lab, the tough part was it has always been the group project, and you do not pick the group. The tests are quick and easy, and she helps if you manage to ask the right question. Professor B is awesome once you start communicating and asking questions. She always tries to help, and makes sure everyone understands material
