Anyone who complains about this teacher probably does not understand MLA formatting. She was very clear on reading the MLA guide book and that she will grade harshly on plagiarism and grammar. This is key to her class.

Loved the class. Strategies we were taught will help in college, and in life.

She really is a good prof, but I believe her philosophy is you only get out of the class what you are willing to put in. She doesn't seem to focus too much of her grading on the actual content, but she does expect college-level grammar skills. So if you're already good at that take her for Com 2. If not, take her for Com 1 and she'll teach you.

Loved her class. If you participate, you will do well.

i thought she was going to be a horrible teacher but turns out shes funny and energetic. She made the class super fun! really easy grade if you turn your work in on time!

I LOVE MISS Grooome! She is the best teacher ever. I really thought college was goimg to be hard but she makes things clear and easy. if you do not undersatand something she is more than happy to help you with it. she is a fun teacher. college can be sressful but miss Groome makes it fun and interesting.anyone how hates english need to take her!

Please ignore the negative comments. It seems to me that those who had problems never put forth the effort. Mrs. Groome is an amazing professor if she knows you are trying. Her methods are to TEACH you, not throw you an easy A. She makes it clear what is expected and it is your own fault if you don't excel. She is very compassionate and caring.

Mrs. Groome is a wonderful teacher. how dear you all say she is not. If you take the time to listen in her class and do what she is asking for you would get an A no problem. i wish i had her for all my classes.she has been a english for so long and she is magnificent at what she does.because of her i like and understand english much more than i did

Do not take this class if you want an easy A. You truly have to work for it. You pretty much write essays every week and for the final it's a group debate. However, Professor Groome is a really good person. She is energetic and kind. Even if it doesn't appear so, Groome's office door is always open if you ever need help. I don't regret this class.

She admitted to my class that she was one of the teachers on campus that gave out the most essays..she is a good teacher overall though and does grade hard and like someone said, will give u a 0 for a simple MLA mistake. Every week was a new essay. There were never any tests just essays....and a group debate at the end of the semester.

Yes her class is hard and she is a hard grader but if you do the work and show up for class you can do it. If your looking for an easy A then you might want to look for another professor. I recommend her class for anyone goes by fast as well just do your work

She can be stict if you do not pay any attention to what she says but that is because you just didn't care to listen so she has the right to be angry. Other than that she is a very good teacher! She knows what she is talking about and I have learned more in one semester with her than I ever learned in high school! Take her!!!!

She's strict on grading but its for your own good!

She is tough, but you will learn your MLA format, be attentive. She is a grammar stickler. As a 25 year old, not being in a class since 2006 and not being taught grammar since 2002, she was very helpful in refreshing me. She is blunt and will call you out! If you can't take that, don't take her.

VERY TOUGH teacher, you keep very busy with one paper a week until the research paper which will consume your time. MLA needs to be PERFECT to receive a grade. I learned a lot and passed with a good grade, but class is stressful and extremely time consuming. You will need to get to know the writing center well.

Loved Mrs. Groome! One of the most helpful and flexible teachers I've ever had! All you have to do to get a good grade is participate and work hard.

I had her for Honors Leadership. My advice would be to stick to the syllabus. She doesn't mention everything in class, but everything you need to know is printed in the syllabus or can be found online. Lots of group work, some reading, but if you can BS, possible to get through without opening the book. Be prepared for off-topic political debates.

Mrs. Groome is the best! she is really smart, and funny.

Not easy. Unfair grader. On one of the papers, i forgot to put the correct date and she gave me a zero for the entire thing. Very strict. A lot of participation in every class. However, you will leave the class knowing MLA like the back of you hand. You want her to like you? Go to her office hours; she becomes a different person there. Goodluck!

Tough teacher. I've taken four courses here & she is by far the hardest. She'll mark you down for something just because does not like it. You can also get marked down for the same thing like three times. TONS of peer editing, like the blind leading the blind which you can and will get marked down for something you failed to mark.

I took her for Leadership Studies, and I really enjoyed it. She taught me a lot and was very open to working with students. She was nothing but nice and her demands were very clear. Beware of group projects, she grades them tough. One mistake and your grade will be shot.

If you're looking for an easy A, you won't get it in her class. Expect lots of group work, participation, and an essay each week. Heavily grades MLA formatting as well as grammar. Show up to class, participate, read what's required, and do what's assigned, she will be more than happy to assist you during office hours.

She was a great professor, just had a ton of essays and EXTREMELY tough on MLA grading. If you're looking for an easy A comp class do not take her. She makes students work for their grades. If she sees that you're trying hard, she is more than happy to help you out. This class is a hard course but she teaches the material well.

I took Prof. Groome's class for Honors Leadership and feel it was a beneficial class. Get ready to read & for a long list of assignments, but she gives good feedback and cares about her students. She provides clear expectations and a detailed syllabus.

She's funny and a great teacher. If you're looking for an easy A, her class is not that class. She is more than willing to help you with your writing and gives good feedback. Lots of group work and peer edits. She really helps you develop your writing skills. Would definitely take her again.

A very nice teacher that cares about her students. Grades strictly by the MLA format. But lots of easy assignments where you can get points.

She's the lowest rated teacher I've taken and she does not deserve it. I think many of here students are entitled kids who want their hands held. She is tough, but also funny and fair. If you actually care about learning she will help you do that, but you should have Comp1 knowledge before taking Comp2. One of the best teachers I've had.

Professor Groome is an amazing teacher and I would definitely take her class again. She is very respectful toward her students and will help only if you ask specifically for it. She really does set her students up for life when doing this.

Dr. Groome keeps her class fun and interesting. Although some students do not like her, she is fair to everyone and sets up assignment dates in the beginning of the course so you can complete them on time for the grade. Assignments are not very hard, but so make sure you study MLA format before entering or while in the beginning of the course.

Professor Groom WILL teach you how to write a proper MLA paper that will be used for all your college classes and on; however, she will not treat her students as babies. You must take that class seriously and then it will be pretty easy.

When I was in her class I didn't realize that she actually cares about the students. I thought she was just a harsh grader and wasn't reasonable. I'm retaking the class with another professor and I am realizing that her methods of teaching are effective. In the moment you may not like her and think that she is tough but she wants you to succeed.

I initially saw the rating and thought I shouldn't take her class but after about 2-3 weeks I saw that this was actually a fun class to have. She is fun but strict on due dates, you need to get assignments done on time but she gives a good amount of time for them to be completed. If you turn in quality work and participate then I highly recommend.

She gives great feedback, take her if you want to improve as a writer.

Dr. Groome is really an awesome professor. I had to work really hard in her class but I learned A LOT and that's still helping me today. The whole semester is based on the research paper and the debate but she breaks it down into easy steps. Just pay attention, come to class, work hard, do what she says, and you'll be fine. Use the Writing Lab!

Maureen Groome was very helpful & gave really good feedback when it came to any misunderstands I had (I had a ton, I didn't understand anything at first) & she is very patient when responding to my emails. Though there is a quite amount of week assigned, some were easy while others were difficult which is understandable for a Composition 2 class.

I had Mrs. Groome for success strategies which is an easy class. She was very hands-on. She was very straight up with you but cared about what you had to say. She was an easy grader but you have to complete all the assignments to keep your grade up. As long as you stay motivated, the work isn't hard and you'll probably do fine.

Prof. Groome can be strict and the homework can be a lot but she grades well and is good at getting back to you. She gives useful feedback and is very helpful if you are struggling. Her class can be work heavy but overall she is very kind. She won't tolerate laziness but she truly wants the best for her studetns and their success!

I think Dr. Groome is a great teacher, she goes through all the steps on how to write a well done research paper which is extremely helpful. Participating in the class is expected. I would definitely recommend this class.

As a student who is very devoted to my studies, I think Dr.G is great! We are in week four, and I have learned more in this class than any other eng class I've taken. Take notes and work your absolute hardest, she will recognize that. Be attentive and professional. She grades tough, but I came to college to become better, not get easy A's.

This class has put me out of my comfort zone, and frequently presenting in this class is difficult. Dr. Groome is hilarious and always tries to engage with her students. Despite the ratings this class is not hard; give her respect and she'll give it back to you. I would recommend it to anyone struggling to leave their comfort zone.

Wonderful wonderful teacher. I learned so so much. If you're looking for a very chill not many assignments class this isn't it but it's worth it because the teacher is amazing and I know so much now!

I hated every second but also deeply respected the heck out of her. That's how you know she's a real teacher and not one of those “easy A, zero growth” teachers. You don't love her, but you respect her. If you're smart AND you work your backside off, you might get a B. That will be the hardest B you ever earned and you will be proud.
