She's very spunky and talks really fast. Her class is pretty easy, if you go to class and do all the work.

She has a lot of energy when teaching. The novels we read were short, and full of lots of embedded stuff to write about, so essays were straight forward. Lots of work, but easy enough.

I disagree with the naysayers. She is very peppy, but her energy and excitement about English makes learning about it that much better. She does not grade on personal preference in the class, she grades on structure within the paper. She does not hand out grades thought, nor should she.

Lots of work, but she explained everything well. Good handouts and really helpful if you go to her office hour. English isn't my strongest subject, but I feel like she really helped me become a better writer. Great teacher if u want to learn.

She works with the students and explains the assighnments very cleary. Awesome teacher who has lots of experience in English!

She is a great teacher, her class is not hard, if u put in the effort u will pass. She also helps you out a lot, so if u dont unstand anything, u will not have a problem.

She's very nice and the grading scale is rediculously easy. You can get a 70% and pull a B.

I absolutly loved her! she was really into what you thought and listened, and encouraged you to come in on office hours and she would help you no matter what...........more than likely the people that didnt like were stupid and didnt want to learn, and by the way i got an A!

Professor OHerin is easy to understand, straight to the point and very, very funny. She has this great manic laugh that is fantastic. She has a great analytical mind and enourages her students to develop one also... and hot is not the word to describe her... more like BUILT!

Good teacher. Her expectations for assignments and grading are really clear. No surprise grades at the end. She posts everything on blackboard which I like. I would definitely recommend her. This is the only english class I ever felt like I got something out of. Helpful comments on drafts and papers.

Maureen is awesome; she's super into the subject and her enthusiasm makes you just as excited. She turns Shakespeare into a blast and really makes the story and the language interesting and comprehensible. She explains themes and topics excellently. If you need a humanities credit, definitely take her Studies in Shakespeare class!

I have never learned more in an English class as I did in this class. She is a great teacher, although I must admit that she rambles a bit, which makes it difficult to understand. I wish she would have written more on the board instead of doing so much talking. Her notes on her essays are helpful, but she takes a long time to return coursework.

Ms. O'Herin is fantastic. She has a lot of energy and she is very passionate about Shakespeare. She makes the plays and sonnets approachable, and really strives to help her students understand. The class was writing intensive, but not too difficult. If you need guidance, she will definitely help.

A lot of work, must read and write a lot. She gives out written instructions on what is expected and how it is graded. Show up, read the text, and do the assignments and you will do just fine.

I agree with everyone else: Maureen. Is. Life. Over two years, I've taken English 20, 11, and 4 from her. She has encouraged me to write, critiqued my work, awarded me many A's, talked with me about life, storytelling, and Shakespeare, and generally inspired me. I will visit her often. I guarantee that you will work hard, but you will learn.

She is one of the sweetest teachers I have ever had. She's a great teacher, and you definitely will learn a lot. She talks pretty fast, so make sure you ask her questions if you are confused about something. The work is fairly easy, and she is always in a positive mood. I strongly recommend her.

She is a great teacher! I loved her class, and it was super easy. I got an A and all I did was pay attention in class and do my my homework/essays in class. Her essays are interesting, and the readings are too. She doesn't really call on people like that, and I learned a lot in her class than all my years in high school.

She is funny, energetic, and passionate. Her interpretations are intelligent and fantastic and interesting, so it's fun to learn with her. She's also just a really kind and funny individual. The amount of reading can be dense (obviously), and the reading logs drove me mad sometimes. It's challenging, and you have to put in effort. A good class!

She is one of the best teachers I've ever had. And very understanding. If you have an issue, she'll go out of her way to help you with it. Class is interesting and fun. Heavy reading and a lot of writing, but worth it!

She is a great teacher who is incessantly enthusiastic about shakespeare. But, she takes 20pts from every missed class and she has a detailed rubric for a 1pg reading log that I thought was just overkill. There is only one group presentation, 13 reading logs and 4 papers. A few reading quizes as well.

She seems very sweet and is super passionate about the subject. It is very difficult to get an A in her class. The class was out of 1,060 points meaning you could only miss around 100 points total to get an A. Too much work for a 3 unit class in my opinion, and graded kind of tough on essays. I usually get an A in english but ended up with a B.

A lot of work in this class- a ton of writing. But Prof O'Herin is passionate about English and is very passionate and considerate. Very kind and I really enjoyed having her as my professor. Class is easy to get in an A *IF* you do all the work asked. Would love to have O'Herin again if I have another English class. Took online.

This teacher assigned a lot of busy work throughout the semester. Was a pretty easy grader and had reasonable criteria. However the busy work was brutal... don't take if you aren't willing to read every little piece of material she assigns. Trust me, it's a lot of work.

Really easy, if you do the work. She's so nice and helpful. You must read. You can turn in late work, but it only one point will be taken off. She gives really good feedback on your essays. She's also very uplifting and talkative. She can talk for hours about one slide on a grammar powerpoint.

She is very flexible with students needs. People person and willing to work with you, if you put in effort. I would definitely take her classes again. I have taken english with her both in person and online. She's a wonderful teacher.

took online which wasn't my favorite. Its alot of reading and writing. i had lots of questions but the prof always got back to me and gave me good advice on my writing. i liked all the feedback on my papers and I think i definitely improved my writing which is not the greatest. she put alot into the class, but it is alot of work for students

She was so helpful to me. I really liked the detailed comments on my paper and the way we reviewed the comments in assignments. I asked questions all through the semester and she really helped me with me writing. I liked the step/by/step approach to writing the papers and the discusion boards helped me get my paper ideas together.

LOVED the Shakespeare class! She is really into it and super-knowledgeable. Even when the plays seemed really crazy, she gave us ideas about how to connect what was happening with real life or in the historical setting. Its fun to have a teacher so excited about teaching. There IS alot of reading and writing, but I thought it was worth it.

I really liked taking this course, and it was amazing because Maureen taught with such passions. It's become one of my most favorite classes. I never would have thought I'd feel this way about Shakespeare, but this teacher makes it exciting and interesting and even funny! If you have a humanities requirement, I would recommend this class.

This class does have a lot of work, but I would say everything in this course was helpful to me. I like the way OHerin set it up. I especially liked the "Writers Reference" book. It allowed me to flip back to grammar areas where I was having difficulty in. I even decided to keep it and not sell it back. I liked how she used it for paper feedback

Maureen seemed nice in all the times I connected with her. But for me some of the most helpful parts of the course was writing papers and discussion boards. I hate to write and this course forced me to write, and it taught me to do it in a structured way. The discussion boards were good to get classmates ideas on assignments.

She helped me with application and scholarship letters on her own time and always makes me feel encouraged. I really like Maureen a lot and would take another class with her if I could.

I really liked her online class. It wasn't easy, but it was very organized and had reading assignments I really got into. Alos, Maureen was so nice about getting back to me when I had some issues this semester. I had to work really hard for my grade but I feel like I earned it. I would not say this is an easy class, but I am gald I took it.

The class is hard because there's a lot of reading and writing, but then again it's useful and you'll learn a lot (if you read). Take a class with her!

There will be many reading assignments and a good amount of writings to complete, but all of which will be manageable. A few quizzes will be given for some of the readings as well. Its an enjoyable class since the professor is very kind.

Maureen was super helpful and helped me get ready for college writing. I am a returning student & This was my first online class and I was surprised by the quality. I had been told online was sort of easy and clicking through things, but this was like a real class. She always got right back to me and I asked a lot of questions LOL

I would tak this prof again because she was really nice and helpful. I don't think I would take online again. i just couldn't stay on top of things and there were assignments every week and 4 papers. i think i need a regular class to stay focused. luckily i think i will pass this class mostly because the prof helped me out alot.

Her class was on canvas. Personally I like when the assignments are organized on each module, easy to see everything. Be careful when doing the assignments and read everything, sometimes there's work to do but it'll be hard to find the exact directions.

She is really hard working teacher. In this English 1A class, I studied many writing skill. And learned more knowledge about writing. It a worthy class. How ever, we can get more long time to do assignment is better. Because the time is too tight to do.

I was looking over the other posts here, & honestly, I didnt think this class was that hard. I had HS English classes that were a lot more work. I liked the way she set up the class to prepare you for college essay writing. I learned a lot of techniques tht I will use for other papers. Well-organized class & she made it interesting!

She connects with you all the way through. We had to switch online and she made sure all the work and grading would be the same as before. She always contacts you if you get behind and shes really friendly about it. This semester was really crzy for me but she helped me get through it. I would definitely take Oherins class again.

I had prof. Oherin for English 1A online and now Egnlish 4. Her class is very well-organized, and I appreciate the easy to follow directions and explanations. Especially for online classes. There are four papers and all the work in a unit leads to the paper at the end. I feel like I am getting to be a better writer all the time in her class.

Prof Oherin is so nice and caring. The class is really well organized, and she keeps everything up to date. She will contact you if you get behind. If you want a teacher who cares, I recommend her! I plan to take her again next semester.

I really like this professor. She really puts a lot into making the online class organized and using online links, so we didn't have to buy expensive textbooks. Her videos, emails, and announcements are all helpful. For a required class, she really made it worthwhile. I recommend her class to anyone who has to take required English.

She is really easy to communicate with. Very friendly and explains things really well. No required zoom meetings, but I loved the class and meeting with her in office hours. Most caring teacher I ever had!

One of the best professors Ive had! Shes amazing. There are three essays total. Other HW is discussion board posts (completion graded), open-note quizzes, and a few reading journals. Though she can be a bit of a tough grader on essays, she is happy to help you with it and gives amazing feedback. You will become a better writer in this class.

Every assignment is useful and helps you for the essay for each unit. (4) Her canvas is also set up really nicely and it is clear that she has spent a lot of time perfecting it since it is so easy to navigate. I highly recommend supplementing the online versions of the texts with materials from your local library (books AND audiobooks).

Super sweet and her Canvas page is really organized, which was helpful for an all online course. Units were structured around different readings (Fences, Jane Eyre, etc.) and each ended with an essay that we drafted with peer review groups. Final project was a longer research paper and accompanying presentation. Flexible + offers late pass options.

One of the best teachers at Las Positas. Shes super sweet and understanding, if youre having an issue and need extended time just communicate with her. Yes theres lots of papers and reading but idk what you guys expect from an English class, and honestly 3-4 papers is not bad. She provides lots of resources to help. So excited for English 4!!
