Dr. Hiebert provided me with some of the most helpful comments I have ever received on research paper writing, although her lectures were not very useful and somewhat hard to sit through.

Took both 283 and 381 with her. I have no idea what people here are talking about. I imagine that they slacked and didn't talk to her prior to the essay due date. If you don't actually work at getting an A, you probably won't get one. That's generally how it works at Uni. She's a great prof and doesn't mind giving an A to those who work for it.

Although she doesn't follow her lesson plan, her lectures are super interesting. If you take proper notes, and read the assigned readings, you should do well. The exams were multiple choice and fairly straight forward. The assignment was ridiculous however. I would have rather written an essay.

Usually lectures with an outline on the overhead, but not boring at all. She's a good professor and I recommend this class to anyone!!

Dr. Hiebert was a great teacher, really clear, approachable, interesting, enthusiastic, etc. BUT she let class discussions that were mostly hypothetical and arbitrary get out of control and go on for WAY to long. The final assignment was absolutely ridiculous for a 1st year class as well, way too involved for people just starting out.

Wonderful professor! She's interesting and really knows her stuff. Willing to help you out and is very approachable. One of few classes I looked FORWARD to each week. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HER!

Great prof. She was always very happy to answer any questions and encouraged to ask for help if there was any misunderstanding. Seemed very knowledgable. Not much textbook use at all, but know your readings because they WILL be on exams. The class is not really at all about technical application of law, but moreso the theory and history of it.

This is my second class with Dr. Hiebert and I really enjoy having her as a teacher. She's very relatable and has a constantly positive attitude, which is a nice breath of fresh air compared to some other profs. One just needs to pay strict attention in class and take very thorough notes and they should do just fine.

She is excellent and it was not a bad class. I found the multiple choice exams really difficult - you must remember terminology and facts from the textbook which seem rather arbitrary at the time. The final was BRUTAL. Super specific. The assignment was easy though and prof Hiebert is so helpful and nice if you go see her!

Although this class was interesting, I would not recommend it. Midterm was so hard that she ended up adding 3 marks to everyone's scores. The assignment was difficult and hard to do because it was unclear how one was supposed to do it! Also, THREE TEXTBOOKS were required (over $200 in total) and were barely used (exams were 70% lecture material)!!

Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject; generally an interesting class. But, exams were quite difficult for the course level and assignment was very vague in terms of what was required. Great prof nonetheless.

Believe me when I say this professor marks extremely hard. During my first year, I had straight As for every single one of my courses except this one: C+. That's how hard it is

First year I was super lazy, so it's my fault I failed her 203 class. But then I smartened up and studied HARD for her 201 class, and got a C+. All my other classes have been an A or B+ since I started studying harder, except hers. TA Nadeen gave everyone a D on their assignment.

Hiebert's POLI470 Genocide class was one of the best I have taken at the university. She is very passionate and knowledgable in genocide studies and knows her material. This was a very interesting class, and she has great enthusiasm. Awesome prof, really enjoyed her class and would highly recomment!

Thoroughly enjoyed this course and the tutorials that went along with it. Her tests aren't the easiest, if you're looking for an easy A, this isn't it, but if you put in the effort and email her for clarification she is very willing to help. Would definitely recommend Dr. Hiebert.

One of the most knowledgable Profs. Dr. Hiebert knew her stuff, but don't think you're just going to get a decent mark without coming to class, paying attention & writing down great notes. She really prepares you for other classes, especially students looking to go into Law. Midterm and Final were MC and all from the notes, Assignment is easy marks

If you want to become a better student, take this class. If you want to get an Easy A, Run. This class is challenging, and difficult because of the amount she expects you to know. Overall very good and knowledgeable teacher, easy to understand. If you want an easy mark and want to slack, drop it. Too hard.

Dr. Hiebert challenges you and makes you a better student. All the comments says she marks hard. No, she just marks FAIRLY. The grade you get reflects the effort you put into your paper. Not only that, but she is EXTREMELY knowledgeable. I would take classes with her over and over again if i could.

Covered a lot of information in class. 1/2 of it was in the textbook. Tests are deliberately tricky to test for attendance. Multiple choice questions are difficult because more than one answer is true. Learned a lot but there was a lot of redundancy - covered same theme over and over. Picture Politicization of the Judiciary for 3 months...

She is hard to judge. She is a nice lady and cares about her students. Her notes however are horrible and you must go to class. Honestly I dont think she put any effort into her lecture notes or lectures and it made me feel like I should put in equal effort on my project, which would have been garbage. She's okay. Nice person but not great prof.

She's a really great prof and really knowledgeable. Most of the questions are based on her lectures, so yes, you should be going to class. She's not difficult; she's FAIR. Don't expect it to be an easy A; you should be putting effort into the class. If you do, you'll do well! And she's a really nice prof to talk to as well. She really cares :)

Her lecture was very comprehensive and clear. Moreover, her lecture was not boring and included a lot of interesting facts. She was also very approachable and would be more than willing to answer any question we had, and to extensively help us with our assignments. Expect more than usual amount of tasks though.

Great prof. Yes she sets quite a lot of work. But it's clear what is required. Do the work and it will be marked fairly. Great lectures, but does use every second. She truly teaches you what you need and gives the tools to get a good grade. Super helpful and a truly nice person. Will look for more of her classes.

Hiebert was a great teacher. Very helpful and enthusiastic about the course material. 343 wasn't the easiest class, but it was doable if you put in the time. The only problem I had with her was her lecture slides are useless and it's not always clear what you need to write down. Other than that, great prof. Watch out for tricky questions on exams!

She is so, so nice. I am not a morning person at all, anything before 10-11 and I'm dead but this class was at 9 and she kept me engaged and she joked and connected material to current issues to make it interesting. She is obviously passionate about her work. Tests were difficult, you need the textbook but it was very interesting and she was a gem.

This was one of my favourite classes. the content is really interesting and she is a really engaging lecturer. She outlines exactly what she expects on papers and is incredibly helpful if you go talk to her. She grades fairly. Go to class and take notes, start thinking about assignments early on and you will do well.

Hiebert is a very kind professor and her lectures are very organized but EXTREMELY content filled. My fingers got cramped trying to type everything she said. Powerpoints were very bare so you really had to pay attention to her lectures. This course is extremely intense and "one of the hardest poly sci courses" - Hiebert. Good prof but tough class

Dr. Hiebert was a solid prof. She is extremely knowledgable in the study of genocide. We studied several case studies and would go into each in depth, sometimes her lectures would just be stories (i.e the Holocaust). Her papers are fairly graded. You have to attend lectures as her slides are just brief bullet points. Would take another class w. her

Hiebert has very high standards. Her content is complex and difficult. I would still say she is fair, but you will really have to work hard. Lecture-heavy, with 3 per week of fast talking. Dr. Hiebert is exceptionally knowledgeable in her field. Dr. Hiebert communicates lectures in an understandable way. If you keep up with the readings and attend the lecture you should be fine. She is accommodating and is willing to go out of her way to accommodate students during the current covid situation. I would highly recommend her courses.

Dr. Hiebert's a good prof, but her lectures were exhausting. She's passionate about her subject, but there was so much extraneous information packed into lectures. Lectures were recorded, so they could be watched at double the speed, but she would cover an enormous amount of info in each 30-minute video. Get ready to work hard if you have her!

Dr. Hiebert is extremely knowledge and was flexible and caring to students. Other reviews talk about the extraneous amount of information, but I found the extra, real-life examples interesting. Once you get used to what she tests on, you'll be fine. My only complaint is that the course required two expensive textbooks.

This class was honestly so hard and I feel like it didn't have to be. The amount of effort you have to put in to watching lectures/taking notes.. I wouldn't take this in person. Papers were graded harder than I'm used to, although feedback was pretty good. I'll just say good luck if you need this class and put as much effort in as you can.

Super interesting lectures and a very inspirational prof. Honestly have to be present for lectures and have to take detailed notes as test questions are fairly specific but the course content was super compelling. For the textbook, some questions on tests were super specific so reading over the chapters definitely helps!

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Hiebert! Her research is so cool, she is very logical in the ways she structures the course and grades, and her tests are difficult but fair (and online!) Highly recommend her law and politics class, and I've only heard good things about her Genocide class as well. W prof.

Dr. Hiebert is so incredible! She genuinely cares about her students. For INTR 501, there were a lot of papers, so be weary of that! (I will say that unless you're an IR major you can't take this course anyways lol). She is very passionate and knowledgeable about IR. She is also a relatively easy marker, and she gives good feedback.

She is a really great professor and I have only good things to say about her. She is an expert in her field and has a very engaging way of lecturing. If you have the chance to take her class do it!

Hiebert is a very knowledgeable and caring prof! It's important to take good notes in order to succeed in this course, but it's not hard to do well. The only complaint I have is that some test questions were quite difficult. But, overall, I would still recommend taking 342 with Hiebert.

Dr. Hiebert is simply wonderful. This is the third class I have taken from her and each has been a treat. You need to stay on top of note-taking and lectures in general to do well but she's funny and a great lecturer so you have nothing to worry about in regards to staying focused. Lots of writing but very clear criteria and fair grading too.

This is a challenging class. There are ~8500 words of writing, a presentation, a participation grade, and many readings that you need to keep up with to do well. Dr. Hiebert herself is absolutely wonderful though. She is kind, fair, and more than accommodating when you're having a rough day. She truly cares about students and their success.

She is one of the most caring and nicest profs at U of C. However, her tests are very difficult as she asks very particular questions,her essays are also marked with a high degree of difficulty. Also you have to come to class as her slides are simply a outline of what she talks about. Overall shes really kind and lectures are fun.

She is super intelligent, lectures are interesting and captivating. Getting a good grade in her class is not unattainable, you just have to work super hard. I would definitely take her class again, as I learned so much.

Very nice lady, is allways willing to help and has clear expectations. However, her tests are very difficult, as she will ask specfic details, and will test specfic aspects of the reading. Moreover the essay was graded much more harder. Moreover, slides are simply outlines requiring you to be in class, but lectures are fun as she is good at them!

Maybe it's because I am really interested in the topic of Genocide, but I found the class great!! She's a good lecturer and I also loved the different methods of assessment. An online exam, big written research report, a midterm and a ‘creative' written piece. I was almost excited to research and write these, would recommend :)

Her tests are quite challenging, but still fair. She's one of the kindest and most caring profs. She would explain everything I got wrong on the test during office hours, which was super helpful! The TA made an error and she completely remarked my essay on a Saturday, and rounded my grade up. She is so sweet and genuinely looks out for her students

Overall enjoyed the course, but I wish she kept her words and actually curbed the marks on our midterm which were unsuccessful for many.

She is very kind and genuinely caring. She responds to emails like lightning which is very helpful. People found the quiz questions to be very specific but if you pay attention in class and take good notes you should be fine. The TAs marked the assignment very strictly, but she was lenient.
