Best class I've taken at Nova.
Attendance is essential. Keep up with your readings and pay attention in class. She goes over the reading in lectures just to clarify. This is your opportunity to ask questions and participate in discussions. She's a hilarious person in her lectures which are fun and keep you interested. Two major exams. One paper. She is very helpful :)
Took during summer, short 6 weeks, super easy only 2 essays a few quizzes; all take home... I used to hate history with a passion but that was because I didn't understand it, but she explained it so well that I will be taking another history class soon. Go to class and participate and you get an A.
Easy class just show up listen and don't slack off. A lot of reading and will ask you sometimes about the reading. easy assignments if you know how to type properly and make good essays and good at analyzing a writing.
Good teacher, she was helpful. Project was hard, mostly to find a location. You then must write a paper on the location. Pick a place with artifacts and skip parks because you must choose 3 items or exhibits for the paper. You will have the full semester to complete it. Lectures and slides have all the information from the tests.
Professor Santelli. She is a good teacher. There is a very likely chance you will pass her class, if you show up to class, pay attention and do the assignments. Is a easy class, but you have to show efforts. Take her class! Take her! shes awesome!
She's a good solid teacher. She also likes Monty Python.
Every week expect a primary source reading but she is an easy grader. Only 2 exams and they are not multiple choice so you have to study. Gives a lot of extra credit which helps bump up the grade. Sometimes just attending the class gets you extra credit so don't miss class. Answers to the exams can be found in her lectures or the book.
Her class made me take an interest in history again. I wasn't a fan of history and thought it was boring, but after taking her class, I found a new appreciation for it. Her lectures are quite detailed and she talks all through class, but if you pay attention and take notes during her lectures you are bound to ace her tests.
She's an alright professor. Show up, pay attention to the lecture, do the weekly primary sources, do the study guides for the exams (which are essays) and it'll be an easy A. Take notes in class, she doesn't like it when you're not taking notes. She also likes participation.
Her class is great if your a history lover, but you must do your homework on time. Doesn't accept late work at all. She is a stickler about time and there's a decent amount of work. Don't take her over the summer (You must be 110% dedicated)
Prof. Santelli was an incredible professor, and streamlined the contents of HIS 101 perfectly into a summer semester. Her assignments are straightforward, and she is willing to work with you.
I took her class my first semester in college , she is very boring. She lectures all class, she is rude, has an attitude . I do not recommend you take her class and I personally would never take it again.
If you enjoy history then she's great, if not maybe try a different professor. Lectures typically took the whole class but were detailed. Assignments are straightforward and there was never more than one a week. The only time she really got mad was when people couldn't answer questions during class and when someone got up while she was lecturing.
I love history and I feel she did an amazing job of keeping everyone interested. The only tough grades were a final paper and midterm. The midterm I had to study for weeks in advance and received a 90. Overall she's great & gives the whole semester to do the final paper
She is very rude. Not helpful at all.
I would not take this class again. I should've dropped it when I could. Lectures heavy and talks non stop.
I enjoyed this class and would take this professor again. She clearly enjoys history and tries to get students to enjoy it too. The only way you won't pass her class is if you don't study and don't attend class. Professor Santelli does not like it when students are on they're phone.
I really liked this class. I learned a lot and liked that the professor clearly wanted students to understand the material. Do expect to study for the tests and attendance is a must. I'm not sure what the reviews mean that she's rude but she does get frustrated when students are on their phones or randomly leave in the middle of lecture.
My favorite teacher!
Excellent teacher-can't wait to take her again!
Super professor
I love this professor. I have taken two classes with her. If you go to class and study from the study guide she provides you will do fine in this class. She is also very helpful and answers questions if you need extra help.
I loved the class. Prof. Santelli was great. Lectures were really interesting even though class seemed long sometimes. She told some interesting stories. There really wasn't a lot of homework. Just show up and do well on the tests and your golden.
She goes in depth on topics and makes them easier to understand. I didn't think history was that interesting before I started and then by the time we were learning, I was surprised by the fact that I enjoyed how she was teaching it. I learned a lot more from her than I did in any other history class I'd taken before.
Lectures are basically a summary of the reading but she makes things easier to understand so you should attend, and she gives extra credit for being on time sometimes so don't be late. Only 4 tests, 2 multiple choice and 2 essays. Beware, she really does not like when students are distracted during her lectures. Easy A
Prof. Santelli is one of the best History professors ever. She makes the subject really interesting by telling it like a story. The class only is graded by 4 test, so you gotta do good in those. Professor Santelli however gives a lot of extra credit if you show up on time. SO SHOW UP ON TIME! She literally boosted one letter grade because of it.
Very nice. Lecture are all class.
Professor Santelli is one of my favorite professors ! Her lectures make class go by so fast. She really knows what she's talking about and will give you specific details about everything. Participation is a big one for her.
I loved this class! I didn't think I would like US history but Prf Santelli made lecture interesting and fun. I def will take another class from her.
Good professor. You have to read. There are weekly assignment. It's a lecture heavy class. Attending the class is important. Work on the papers she gives out and turn them in on time. She's nice as long as you are respectable. Don't be disrespectful or late. Interesting class over all.
her lectures are so long like shell literally talk the whole time. she knows what she is talking about and is into it. Shes kinda easy. Shes really strict about the midterm grading. She assigns readings that you may be able to get away with if you pay attn. She assigns a weekly documentary and a guided notes thing for a grade which are boring.
She is an amazing professor. Most of the classes will be lectures, with a few group discussions. She gives study guides for tests, and gives you plenty of time to prepare for tests, midterms, and finals.
Just go to class, pay attention and write down things. It's that easy and also fun.
Take her!!! Such an easy A. Go to class, she gives extra credit for not missing class, and if like no one shows she gives extra credit. Her lectures are fun(and I hate history). She assigns documentaries and theyre long but easy points. Paper for midterm & final. Shes so nice & would take her again if I could.
She is awesome. Understanding, clear grading, and not a lot of homework. the homework we did have is entertaining in itself. Lots of note taking which I'm fine with. All around a wonderful professor.
Great professor, if you show up to class and pay attention to the material which is honestly pretty minimal. If you have trouble with this class/professor I'd recommend saving yourself a ton of time and money by looking into something like an HVAC program or food-service management.
Professor Santelli is a good history teacher. she is passionate about the subject and helps when you ask for it in a non condescending way. However she is very stern and her class requires participation otherwise she gets irritated and do NOT pack up before she says. Her lectures are just the PowerPoint but she said shes just gonna talk.
She is very consequential if youre cheating
She really cares about history. The lectures were so good; I took such good notes. I also got back into the rhythm of taking notes as a history student. I will be doing more of that soon, although I'm an English major. Egyptian, Ottoman, Augustan, Medieval -- all the concepts reinforced my love of history.
I absolutely hate history, always have BUT I actually liked this course. The exams are written and the professor provides everything you need. There are many chapter quizzes but they help a lot. Exams were easy to score high on (E1 95%, E2 88%) IF you reviewed content and practice an outline. Professor is nice and overall made class enjoyable.
She is good and her grading criteria is tough, as she wants you to work hard that is why her grading is hard. Watch historic documentaries, long and lengthy mid and final exam. Uses books and give assignments from book, She really put you to work or lose your grade. Prof if you see this plzzzzzzzzzz remove Filthy-City documentary plzzz Thanks.
First, I would absolutely recommend anyone this professor to everyone. I absolutely never found history intriguing but she made it a good class with a reasonable expectation. The assignments are straight forward and she is available for any help needed. All you have to do to pass this course is take notes and use them.
Great history professor!!!!! Watching the documentaries made it more interesting. Highly recommend Professor Santelli she was great and really knows her stuff. Get ready to read and write!
She lectures through every class. She is nice, prepared, knowledgeable and very interactive. Yet, she gives excessive tedious work/videos every week. She is also a hard grader who is not very open to discussion. It wasn't terrible but it definitely was not an easy class, you have to attend every class and answer lecture questions
In a few words, if you like to read lots of papers then take the class! she is the toughest grader professor I've ever had, and of course, I will never take her class again.
This class was presented through NOL (NoVa Online) so of course it was very heavy in textbook reading. Professor Santelli graded fairly and gave constructive feedback. I suggest getting yor ENG classes out of the way first because there are a few essays. Overall, if you put in the effort and actually complete the reading, you will do well.
Dr. Santelli was an okay professor. The class was straightforward. Read online (free) textbook, do quiz, occasionally a discussion or paper. At the end of the course, I got a lower grade on my final because of internet issues and contacted her so she changed my course grade back to an A. Absolutely appreciated that! Doesn't respond very fast though
She is an okay professor, although if you dont like reading a lot I suggest you dont take her. She gives a lot of homework for the week. Takes forever to respond to emails and grading. I would say find another professor, unless shes your last resort.
AMAZING PROF. I loved her lectures. Make sure to take notes because they will help you in your exams. Essays for both exams, but you really need to work hard for the exams. Lots of info, lots of homeworks. Textbook is required. Her lectures are amazing. Extra credit for entering to 2-3 polls each class, which sums up at the end.
Dont take this professor.. Extremely difficult grader. Expect so much hw every week please consider taking another HIS prof. If you want to fail and not learn anything then go ahead.
tests are hard and she is sometimes hard to reach
A few kinds of assignments that are due every week in addition to work on the final paper
tough grader, assignments are straightforward. you just need to read a LOT from the textbook, so i recommend doing english another time, as she requires two esquire as welltwo for the midterm, another two for the final exam
Her lectures are okay but she had very unclear directions for assignments. She also barely responds emails or gives feedback. I once submitted a draft and ask her is she could look over it. She she said it looked fine, and I got a C. She did the same thing for the rough draft of the final paper, only read the intro and left minimal feedback
This is an easy class, She tells you what hw you have to do that week and lectures throughout class as any other teacher. All you have to do is just pay attention and take notes for the final. I wrote the finals the day of and still received a good grade.. the others complaining must not have taken a difficult class before and this is not one.
Do NOT take this professor. Shes a very tough grader and will legit give you a 0 even if your answer has at least one mistake. Expects a lot of homework to be completed which is overwhelming especially if you are taking other courses. Not worth it at all.
Professor Santelli is really nice. She does lecture until the end of class. Her class is not to difficult as long as you complete the assignments. The midterm and final are both essays and are somewhat difficult.
Professor Santelli was very nice with that being said she does lecture until the end of class and does give a short quiz after every class. The midterm and final were both essays which were somewhat difficult. Wouldnt recommend this class if your strongest subject isnt history or English.
Does not give clear grading criteria, takes about 2 months to grade a 2 page essay. Very difficult to do well in her class, not because the work is difficult but because you just can't make her happy.
The professor is super sweet and caring. You heavily rely on the textbook for this class so I do suggest purchasing. Must be a good writer and reader to excel with her. I must admit, she is a tough grader but is willing to work with you and isn't completely unreasonable.
Took a dynamic class with her. Course materials are straightforward. No textbook were required as everythig is online. Lengthy reads but it contains everything for the class so I recommend reading through everything. Grading guidelines are a bit unclear but she's responsive to your emails.Very understanding with various circumstances.
She is a nice and understanding professor. Her lectures are straightforward forward and nothing in her class will make you stress out. She makes everything very easy and is a really good professor. She likes to interact with her class and does the best she can.
I really enjoyed this class, her lectures were fun and informative, she gives good note slides and has good pace. The homework load isn't bad by any means, it's 1 primary source evaluation and 1 documentary with questions. Her modules page on canvas is also simple and easy to navigate.
Professor Santelli was an incredible, patient, and very knowledgeable instructor. She really wants her students to enjoy the material, fosters group participation, and was always very kind even in her constructive criticisms when it came to assignments. Do your homework on time, participate in class, and ask good questions and you should get an A!
For papers that needed outside sources if it comes back a little high, she automatically gives you a 0 even if you cited the source on paper. She then accused me of cheating on my midterm because I kept moving around too much. Then when it came to take my final she blatantly told me not to take it cause she was just going to give me an F anyways.
If you like history and like to expand your horizon, that is the course you need. The professor will answer any questions you have. Professor Santelli will help you understand the assignments and look for the right sources. if you struggle with your assignments do not feel shy to ask her.
Expects too much for a History 101 class. That isn't my main issue here, she relies solely on the AI detection "Turnitin" which I have no problem with, but she doesn't care what exactly you're being flagged for and won't be of help unless you get the dean's attention. That's when she'll care and change your grade from an unfair D to an A.
Expects you to be a historian, looks for beyond the criteria. Gives vague feedback. Some aspects of the criteria is left out of the assignment post and is written on an announcement post, which makes it very easy to overlook. Expect HIS101 to be easy to learn, but I didn't really learn ANYTHING from her class to be honest. Better off with another.
Terrible at grading. Gives vague feedback on essays, then gives bad grade on next essay for "not following feedback". I've gotten almost all A's in 3 years and no C's until now. Didn't get a single A in this class despite spending 36 hours on an essay I got a D on. Don't take this class unless you want poor grades for hard work with no explanation.
This class consists of a lot of writing such as watching documentaries and analyzing primary sources ,plus the midterm and final consists of writing two essays ,two for midterm, and two for final .Be prepared to read and write a lot .
Shes ok, but I don't highly recommend if you aren't good at writing because she expects any type of writing to be top tier
You select which assignments you want to do. As long as you do a certain number of documentaries and primary source reflections then the lower grades are dropped. The midterm and final are essays, but they are take home. She knows her stuff and I liked the classes. Would take again.
lectures were fun and on stuff I hadn't learned about before. You don't have to do all of the assignments and lowest grades are dropped. You just have to keep track of how many you've done so far. There was an Oregon Trail game assignment that was required, but was fun so I didn't mind. Theres a midterm and final but they are take home.
Loved this class. Enjoyed classes, she answered questions and worked with me when I had a personal issue and needed an extension. Do the work and you will get an A. That simple.
I wasn't looking forward to taking history but this professor was great. She's really nice and knows so much. I liked learning the how current issues developed over time. There are weekly assignments, but you don't have to do all of them, so I liked having options since I had other classes. Do the work and pay attention and this is an easy A.
Professor Santelli made history fun. She is funny in class, responds to email, and gives you a choice in what assignments to do. Would take again! I learned a lot!
I took her Fall 2023 for HIS 121,and needless to say it was one of my favorite classes I had last fall. She was very nice and taught history in a way that kept you interested and listening. She had little quizzes at the end of every class consisting of only 4 questions so they were pretty much easy A's.Over all I highly recommend taking HIS with her
Professor Santelli grades harshly on your assignments based on little mistakes. She does not go on to say how to improve, rather she gives you no feedback and low scores on assignments that are extremely time consuming. The final project has little to no guidance on what she's looking for, definitely would not recommend this history teacher.
She is a wonderful lecturer, however she doesn't flow with the way we were taught in the public education system. Instead of all you need to know being on the PowerPoint slide, she would give little information and would instead talk about it. The class was not very hard, you will just have to take a LOT of notes. Write down almost all she says.
I took Ms. Santellis History 121 class and i'm not exaggerating when I say this woman was the best. This class was insanely easy largely because of how engaging her lectures were. Only reason I got such a low grade is because this was my “easy class” so I let my assignments snowball lol 10/10
I've never liked history as a subject because it's boring to me and I get distracted easily. She gave each lecture with passion, which made me pay attention and provided many extra credit opportunities, allowing me to not stress out over grades and actually pay attention instead of focusing on assignments.
She taught very well, although just like others have said she is such a tough grader, her feedback on assignments are really vague, and the homework is extremely time consuming I didn't even get time to study for my other classes, she'll take points off for the slightest mistake. she will mark u absent if your camera is off, attendance is taken 7.5
Enjoyed the lectures. You don't have to do all of the assignments. lower grades are dropped. Take home exams. Some reviews mention shes a tough grader but if you pay attention in class and read the directions she says what she's looking for. I emailed one time for clarification and got a response back pretty quick. Very nice. Would take again
I took this as a 7week class so that means there was homework each week, but I knew that going in. I took this class because a friend recommended Prof. Santelli but they took the full semester version and said the assignments were more spread out just FYI. The lectures were great. Take home final. Easy A.
I don't usually like history but Dr. Santelli made the class so interesting. Assignments are set up so that you don't have to complete them all. Lower scores are dropped if you do more, which ended up helping my grade. I had some personal trouble and emailed for an extension on one assignment and got it. Very nice.
I'm taking his 121 asynchronous on NOVA online. Dr. Santelli has been responsive and provides great feedback. I emailed to ask for more detail on how I can improve and she responded right away. Class is pretty straight forward. I'm in a 10 week class, so not crazy short like the 7 week classes. Planning to take Dr. Santelli for 122 as well.
This professor was AWFUL. I took an online course from her, HIS 101, I dropped the course because of how a critical grader she was. Its an easy course and work load, but the professor has no life and will grade based off what she sees fit in her eyes not the rubric. I was emailing her arguing until 1 am. Professor has no empathy for students.
Professor Santelli was understanding of some personal issues I was having - I emailed as soon as I knew and she worked with me to get stuff turned in. She gave lots of feedback on my assignments to help me improve. I thought grading with pretty straightforward, so not sure what others experiences were. Would take again!
I took this as a fully online class. Class has a few discussions using historical sources, quizzes from the online textbook, a midterm, and bibliography. Dr Santelli responded to emails if I had questions and gave good feedback. I started out with a low score, but that was my bad cuz I hadnt read the directions right. My grades got better after.
The class was fully online so no lectures. The class was pretty straightforward and easy to follow. You don't have to do all of the discussions, you choose which ones you want and the low scores are dropped. You have to follow the directions if you want a good grade and include citations from the reading. Once I got that figured out I did fine
You should totally take this class! I did the 7-week one, so yeah, you have homework every week. My friend told me to take Professor Santelli, but they did the full semester, so their assignments were more spaced out than mine were. The lectures were great! And the final is a take-home, which makes it super easy.
I took HIS 111 not 112 but it isn't letting me select that. Class was all online. Most assignments were discussions and then there was a creative project and research project. You don't have to do all of the discussions, you pick. As long as you follow all of the directions you will do fine. I got an A and history isn't my best.
Dr. Santelli's 121 asynchronous course has been a fantastic experience! She is incredibly responsive and provides amazing feedback. I emailed her with a question about improving my work, and she replied so quickly. There were a few discussions, a midterm that wasn't proctored and an annotated bibliography instead of a final. It was a great class!
I really enjoyed this class. Even though it's online you need to make sure you hit the assignment deadlines, but I will say I had a family emergency and reached out to the professor and she gave me an extension so she will work with you if you communicate. You do 4 discussions, a paper, and an annotated bibliography.
Took this online. Professor sent lots of announcements and made me feel like I knew what to do for the class. 4 discussions and two papers so pretty manageable. Professor responded to me emails with questions. Overall good experience and would recommend!
I took a fully online 7 week class. the work was very manageable and the professor provided helpful feedback. the final paper is an annotated bibliography that you work on with two earlier assignments, so you are able to improve for the final paper. I learned a lot and would take again.
horrible, so fking horrible professor, no empathy i emailed her and reached out to her multiple times, no response. then she emailed me with an attitude as if shes being forced to work lol. like your are getting paid to do this, i have a w because SHE didnt post the withdrawal date. i have no respect for this bih with her white ass
Professor Santelli is a good professor. Their isn't any problem with her. Her class is lecture heavy and assignments are light but a lot of things to do in those assignments. She gives good feedback and advice. Overall she's a good professor, would take her again.
She bots her reviews, assigns 10+ assignments, and provides vague feedback. Upon asking for clarification, she gets defensive and rude. I was once responded with, "I am an expert. I'm not sure why you're questioning me or acting as if you know more about this than I do. I am telling you that if you don't do what I ask, you will lose your grade."
