I highly recommend Professor Strage for this course instead of Smith. Compare to Strange and Ravisha, Smith is unorganize, self-centered, and doesn't make the most out of every class period.
i HATE this class! the time goes by way too slow and she grades kinda hard on the papers. exam 1 was not too hard.
her term paper is very hard. She is not very helpful. I feel scare whenever I asked her something. She always talk about herself, however her lecture is interesting. I wouldn't recomment taking her
Lectures everyday, can get really boring. Dont have to buy book, all her test questions come from lecture. Not to difficult of a class.
Dr. Smith is very good professor. the lectures are important and will cover everything to be tested on. the tests are taxing, but not overtly impossible. the papers are interesting. she is a fair grader.

SHE IS SO DIFFICULT AND TOUGH. The only way you will pass her class is to do the assignments and take notes for her everyday lecture. She doesn't help the students much and ignores any questions you have for her. I would NOT recommend anybody taking ANY of her classes. She is NOT helpful AT ALL.
Maureen is totally lame. She is like a sorority girl. Self-obsessed and ridiculous. Her classes are a pure waste of time... I was proud of the fact that I wrote about 100 pages in my diary during her stupid lectures.
Maureen is the absolute worst professor. She acts like an immature sorority girl and tells irrelevant stories. I CAN'T STAND HER!! LAME!!!!!I did write 100 pages in my journal during her stupid class... so I guess that it wasn't a complete waste of time.

While I did learn a lot from her class, I feel that her political interest got in the way of her ability to teach fairly. She would cut off students who respectfully disagreed, and she would let those students who agreed with her ramble on forever.
She's not that great, but the class is easy!
She's pretty decent, although not the most popular I could tell she was knowledgeable and generally meant well. I didn't think she was a hard grader though she seemed pretty intimidating. She seems to be (but is not really) nitpicky with grades. Her exams are straight from the notes so keep up with those and youre good.
OH MY GOD! i can't stand her!! lectures are pointless b/c all she does is tell stories about her life. read the textbook chapters instead b/c thats where all the exam material comes from. you'll get VERY annoyed by her stories and her voice. she assigned the term paper to be due the monday we get back. WHACK!!! hope i never have to take her again!!
Very simple if you follow the green sheet, she lay's everything out for you and all you have to do is go to class very day. She teaches everything you need to know to pass, I did not even read the readings and I still got an A in the class. She gets a bad rap for talking about herself a lot but I got a kick out it.
Unclear about guidelines and seems unwilling to help students/ans q's; not a good combo. Luckily I asked the other professor for help instead. Told us midterm would be very general. Exam turned out to be extremely specific; some questions were statistics with specific numbers. I think exam q's come from lectures. Personally, I can't stand her.
This class was so frustrating! She docks points for things not included on the assignment sheet. Community Service guidelines were exremely unclear and she became agitated when asked for clarification. If you have to take her class, good luck.
Worst teacher! Unclear on directions, grades really hard, and gets annoyed if you try to ask a question about anything. She is extremely rude.I hated her she should be fired!
Class was co-taught with Bill Johnson. All of her worksheet description is on her faculty page, but they are very vague. She uses your turnitin email to contact you, so some people might never recieve her messages. Her portion of the exam is based on her lectures and guest speakers so you better take pretty good notes.

While I dont dislike her as a person, the class is incredibly boring. She basically recites the text word for word, doesnt highlight any main points, and is generally unclear about what you'll be tested on. Large amounts of writing - if youre not good at it, take the course online.
she is very very boring...i dont recommed taking this class with her...its lecture every class with no group discussions all she talks is about herself and sometimes it isnt about the current topic...she talks about stuff and says it wont be on the midterm but then it is...just don't take her class
Adolescence: She keeps telling us not to write stuff, but never tells us when to start writing again. Most of the stuff learned in this class is learned in other chad coarses. There are 4 "critical thinking" (plus an optinal 5th) papers, two term-like papers, and a group presentation that is more individual based.
Worst teacher ever!!! Talks alot about her life stories, her tests you don't understand because she'll tell you not to write something down cause it won't be in the test and then it will be on the test!Don't take her class!!!
this class totally killed my motivation. her class is interesting, but the way she grades things is discouraging. she says nobody ever gets perfects on her papesr and when you give things to her early, she isn't really helpful with it. I do not recommend taking her class, even for the time slots

This professor was horrible!!! This course could have been very interesting, however it was based on boring lectures and tedious papers! Her guidelines for assignments are very broad, although her grading is extremely particular! Overall I would say this class was a waste of time!
Show up, listen and get your papers in early/ on-time and LISTEN TO HER FEEDBACK & you will do fine, even if you are not a strong writer (you will be by the end). Don't listen to the haters because they got a low grade. Dr. Smith spells it out at the start of class what you need. If that's asking too much, go back to High School.

Hmm. I was in that class of 8, and I received A's on 2 of 3 assignments. The other one was just late. She seems to be a tough grader, true, and it sucks not knowing what to study for on the midterm and finals, but if you go to class and pay attention, you'll be fine.
Does not communicate with her students professionally. Talks a lot about herself which does relate to the course -- the stories make her seem like she still wants to be that cheerleader/sorority girl (not sure if she was in a sorority. Nor do I don't care.). Take advantage of her office hours, she's much more helpful there.
163-She demands exceptional writing and follows a very detailed grading rubric.Fir grading if you get it right. Beware, no opporunities for class discussions. She will lecture (talk quickly) the entire class period. Loves to share life experiences. She is unaware that she often talks down to the class. Doesn't relate to everyday students very well
Dr. Smith encourages her students to come to class and listen to lectures, as she never posts class notes online. She lectures very fast, be prepared to write or type fast. She is an expert in the field, and clearly knows what she is teaching. Her grading is fair and you will do well if you follow grading rubrics and go to all class meetings.

Follow her guidelines for essays & you WILL pass. Her class is straight-forward. Need clarification or help with an assignment? Talk to her & she will gladly help. Lectures are pretty dull & she goes quite fast w/the slides, so bring a laptop to type w/or be prepared to get carpal tunnel!
Dr. Smith is a great professor who demands that her students do well. I always hear my classmates complain that she is too tough... hey, KNOW HOW TO WRITE A PAPER! If you came to SJSU to slack off, then don't hate on professors who do their job well. Her assignments are easy and you will learn in her class. I'd love to have her again!
She is helpful and wants all of her students to do well. However, this class isn't easy. Come to class, do the work, and ALWAYS read the essay rubrics.
SHOW UP TO CLASS AND TAKE NOTES! I stopped attending her class since it seemed easy, yet I ended up not getting an A (which would have been easily possible if I showed up). She gives an outline on how she wants your paper to be written, so if you follow it, you will do well. If you don't, she allows you to redo it. More hard to fail than pass

She's wonderful. I spent a lot of time working on her papers, but if you follow her guidelines and write well, you'll get the A. The course reader is a must-have for papers, but not for class. She loves when you ask questions, and answers them very well. She's a really smart lady and a great professor. ChAD75 was one of my favorite classes at SJSU.
Chad195: resume assignment, environment essay, term paper, and one group assignment. Chad163: term paper, several short essay responses, one group presentation, midterm, and final (allows a page of notes for both). Pros: She is extremely approachable and helpful. Cons: Hard grader, must seriously put effort and work in order to get an A.
Avoid!! Extremely tough grader, I showed up to every class and that did not help. She grades very hard on all essays. She is very smart, and knows the content, but you will not get the grade you want in this class.
Lazy? Don't take this class. There's a lot of essays. The essays are very long and detailed. Miss a point on her rubric and you can get a really bad grade. Tests are based on readings. Open note. I really recommend you go to lectures so you will get the main idea of the readings. Bring a laptop! She lectures fast! Uses powerpoint.

If you want to do well in her class, follow each assignment rubric - don't miss ANYTHING that she asks for in the rubric. It seems like students do poorly because they don't follow her rubric as written... Just make a checklist for yourself to make sure you don't miss a thing. Awesome professor, intelligent. Recommend for learning over busy work!!
Prof. Smith is very helpful and approachable. As long as you attend class, take notes,read the course reader, and follow the rubrics for the assignments the course should be a breeze.
So awesome! I love how formal this prof is. Always knows the info and makes it relevant. Makes me feel like I am going to an Ivy League school just from how she treats us as intelligent, capable human beings. Take her to learn!
Professor Smith seems to be trying hard, but there are a few details that make it hard to enjoy being in her class.She talks too much about herself. Her anedoctes are relevant, but in excess. When students try to share experiences, she is not patient. Hard grader. Not approachabe. Makes mistakes too, but never admits it.
She was not helpful when giving instructions for assigments. Sometimes, she was condescending. She talked about herself and family about 3/4 of the class, and graded very harshly.
GREAT professor! Very knowledgeable, scholastic, and interesting. She has high expectations of her students which I have found to be great because you WILL learn from being in her class. Succeeds in making info relevant by tying it into her life examples. If you WANT a challenge and want to feel successful at the end of a semester, take her.

OK. She's a knowledgable Professor. But, if you are a student with a learning disability, DO NOT TAKE HER. She's mean, and snaps when students ask questions. If you can follow a rubric exactly, tolerate boring lectures, and are willing to do super complicated and time consuming assignments, you will pass. Just be sure to do whatever she says.
great professor ! i would definitely take her again. Make sure to attend class and take notes (it could make you or break you). She can be confusing at times when providing instructions for assignments and may answer in an aggravated tone. Your grade reflects strictly how much effort you put in her class.
No textbook required, but this class is only based on articles- which are extremely hard to follow. Ridiculously hard grader, and is very unfair. HEAVY group for is also part of this course, and is unclear on what she wants for the assignments. Not approachable at all. Would not recommend.
Smith is a very tough grader and micromanages everything. Her instructions are ever clear and she does a poor job explaining them. She also has a short temper and will ignore you if you ask for too much help. Also, be careful when picking a group. You are stuck with them the whole semester.
First time taking her and the class has been pretty tolerable. 1 small assignment due every wk. There's a couple papers that stressed me out from all the information she wants in it but if you manage your time, it's easy. The midterm and final are take home essays and in class MC questions. If you pay attn and do the work, easy A/B
Requires no book, tests are on results from research articles--can use unlimited notes (not articles). All CHAD 195 classes require a policy paper, 2 other major papers, small assignments, group work-she gives the entire class period. Midterm and final have take home component, which are short essays. Final grade based on curve! :)
She is rude when asking questions and spends most of the time talking about herself. She is a very tough grader, you must follow the rubric.
I am really glad to see this woman has now transferred to online courses. If classes do get back to normal, please steer clear if at all possible.
Professor Maureen is one of those professors that say "no question is a dumb question" but makes you feel dumb for asking one. Though she's tough, the only good thing is her feedback is the most helpful thing ever!! It's basically show up to class, take the notes from the article (only the results), and do all your work and you'll pass.
Extremely rude, acts insulted when you ask for help. Seems she has a bit too much on her plate, or needs a career change. TRY AND TAKE WITH SOMEONE ELSE if you care about your sanity. One good thing extremely educated, just does not do well with students, or individuals below her level of education.
I enjoyed the class material, but hated her style. She makes the course extremely miserable by focusing heavily on format, grammar, and style. Rather than the material itself. Also, she adds things last minute. Do not take a heavy load when or if you have to take her, due to her heavy material, essays, and send backs.

Overloads her students when we have more important classes to attend to, gets frustrated when you ask questions about her assignments and I can honestly say I've learned nothing from her. Stay way from this professor, literally the worst I ever had.

She's really passive-aggressive when you ask her questions about assignments. Doesn't really teach much, tends to talk about her child a lot. ALL the assignments are vague, when you ask her to explain them she gets mad. Voice is very monotone. Make little mistakes on assignments your grade drops right away.
The WORST sem. I've ever had since starting college b/c of her! Gave me so many panic attacks! Super passive agree! Super rude! When teaching tends to talk about her daughter a lot. Her assignments are worth so little for the HOURS you spend on them. She is VERY vague when she teaches and on assignments. I would NOT take her UNLESS you HAVE to!
PLEASE if you love yourself do not take this class. She is a hard grader and will belittle you if you ask questions. She does not care about the students one bit. The group project is also super time-consuming and she gives so much feedback that you'll just have to start it all over from scratch. Overall, don't take her class.

Get ready to write a lot of papers. For the Final you have to write an essay mine was 10 pages or so long and I ended up with a bad grade even after so many rewrites.
This woman is so awful. She made a comment in lecture making fun or nurses and belittling them as a whole. I am applying to nursing school after graduation. After this comment I left her class feeling sick and disgusted that SJSU would allow this to happen. Please report her if anything similar happen to you.
Who is giving Maureen 5 stars?? The class content was okay, but she is an extremely harsh grader. If you aren't taking Chad 100W at the same time you're taking her class, make sure you have APA format memorized. Even though there was no TB required, most of the articles she provided for class cost money to read past the abstract.
Overwhelming amount of work.. MY MENTAL HEALTH IS GONE. Ive worked so hard for a 4.0 and put so much effort on assignments, but looks like it wont happen this time. Just be ready for lengthy assignments for 10 points. Ok feedback TOUGH GRADER

Take a different professor if you can. Her grading is not clear, she will make you feel stupid for asking a question. Will give you feedback on your assignments but don't be surprised if she crosses out the whole thing. Gives study guides on the exams but they don't help cause she will make the multiple choice tricky. Talks about her daughter a lot
Maureen is not a nice person. Her feedback comes across as rude, she uses words like "ugh" and makes students feel less than. I have never ever had an issue with professors at SJSU until Maureen Also, there is a 12+ page paper that she rushes at you rather than giving a sufficient amount of time to work on. It makes the workload sooo much harder.
She critiques on things that she did not set up as an expectation for the assignment. She is very condescending when you are confused. Very unapproachable.

Professor Smith is interesting. At first I was intimidated by her as how she came across. I also struggled at but after, I learned her expectations. She does give detailed feedback which helps us in the long run. She would also share relevant info and articles we can use. I would say try your best, reach out to her and show up to her class.
I slacked off a lot in this class, but she provides all the resources to pass it's genuinely just up to you. She has a lot of interesting topics that she covers and she does a great job making it easy. If I put in the time, I probably would have loved this class, but since I didn't I found myself rushing her fun projects. Be prepared to work a lot.
Not sure why she received low ratings but she is one of the best professor I took for my GE course. She gave helpful and positive feedback which I appreciate and she responds to emails fast. She is straight forwards and she wants to help her students. Also an easy grader as well.
Professor Smith is very understanding and flexible with students, I think sometimes she can be a bit intense compared to most ChAD instructors. She does give a lot of coursework so I would not recommend taking it your last semester.
