Very clear in lectures. Fair grading. Good sense of humor.
easy wen you study and do the homework. dont fall behind
Get her, its sooo EAsy. lectures are clear and very fair grading.
it gets harder after the last 3 weeks of class! so good luck!

Do not take for 3 hrs. talks too fast at times. tests not directly from skills needed in homework.
great real world examples, challenging, but fair keep up with the homework to get an A. I switched majors after taking her class
Class was easy. People complained every now and then, but overall, class is cake. do the hw to do well (it's required, but helps on the tests). 25q's on exams and 10 q's on hw. hw seriously takes all of 20 mins, as do the tests.
Study the book, don't always trust her powerpoint, questions on test are "which is true" type just as much as the math....need to know more than calculations. Shes strict, but fair. Don't take her as a three hour class!
All she does is read powerpoints, that have typos. If you dont catch the error and screw up on the test she dosnt care. Attendence is mandatory. Take someone else.
Tests aren't too bad. If you do well, she gives you breaks (ie helps out more on h/w than otherwise would). strict with grading though, so you better know what you're doing before the test. powerpoints aren't great, so don't even look at them, they'll mess you up b/c they don't tell you what to do
No Comments
The powerpoints are helpful but STUDY THE BOOK. Tests are multiple choics and not just calculations. Study definitions. Rework h/w's.
Mrs. Stiner is VERY MEAN! She does not care if students do not understand the work, nor does she care if a-lot of students fail on the exams. I will NEVER take another class with her teaching it if I can help it!
Ms. Stiner is not an easy professor. She is a very hard grader. I recommend to re-work the homework problems, and study the definitions. I never used her slides they don't really help. So study from the book. I recommend to tape her class specially when she's going over the homework problems.
Mrs. Stiner acted as if the only class you had was her Finance 323 course. The tests were hard along with the homework. Forget the powerpoint slides also, they really do not help. I would not recommend her.
Enter at your own risk, this class is extremely labor intensive and difficult!!! The test are NOTHING like the quizes. I would NEVER recommend her to any student nor would I EVER take her again!!!
Turned an interesting subject into a miserable and nearly useless experience. Powerpoint slides and classes nearly useless. I relied entirely on Blackboard discussion with other students to learn the material. Study everything and know how to work every problem inside out, since that's how it'll be on the test.
She was really helpful no matter what other students would say. The class is hard itself. She is willing to help sutdents. I would recommend.
This teacher sucks. If you do not go to class, then she will not help you and answer your questions. She beleives if you do not go to class where material is taught, then you should not be helped outside of class. I recommend taking another professor.
Ms. Stiner knows a lot about the subject at hand. However, she is under the impression that students can devote 24/7 to her class. Plan to spend at least 3-6 hours a week doing the hw and additional time to study. She also has a tendency to mock people when they ask questions. The class average on the final was a 62 and she does not curve.
Being a business major is hard enough without her adding 6 hours of homework a week and acting like it's the only class students have. Her powerpoints are nothing like the homework. She gets an attitude when people ask questions in class. After 2 tardies, she starts deducting 50 points from your total homework grade each time you are late.
Great teacher
HORRIBLE! spent a LOT of time on homework (powerpoints or book were not much help, had to figure it out myself ). got 62 on 1st test & 42 on 2nd(she said half the class passed and half failed, so she didnt know what to do), she did not curve. had to withdraw and took Samsell and he was amazing! put the same amount of time in & got an A in the class
She is a tough cookie but do all the homework and study-you'll do fine. I didn't even buy the book, quite easy if you do what you are supposed to do. Show up for class don't be late. If you put forth effort she will be good to you.
Very good teacher. I didn't even have the book, but studied powerpoints and notes, and got a B. Expect to put a lot of time into this class. Not easy material if this is your first finance class.
Look, shes a good teacher, but also the hardest teacher in the entire school. Hw takes over 6 hrs a week. Shes uese bb alot and conducts class by powerpoint. I think shes been teaching this class so long she assumes everyone already knows the subject... Dont take if you can find an easier teacher! HARD HARD!!!!!
Had her for fall 2006 for investment and the class was quite challenging. she does require HW to be completed and turned in. THere is a MAJOR Paper due at the end of the semester. She does talk very fast so be attentive. Study all bold-faced words in the book even though she might not mention it.
She is a wonderful teacher. I wasn't sure about finance before taking this class, but now I love it. She is very helpful and smart.
She's a good teacher. We rarely used the textbook. When she assigns homework if you don't do well on it the first time she allows you to do it a second time to get a higher grade.
if you take her, dont ever be late, if your 5 minutes late your counted as absent, shes very anal about attendence. Its not easy, you have to work at it to get a good grade, but she was a good teacher
The class requires alot of work and there are alot of grades...we had one online quiz for each chapter and if you did not do well on it you were able to redo the chapter quiz.... the test were pretty hard but i belive i will get out with at least a C in the class
i had to drop. Her tests are really hard. She is not very clear about what to study for the tests.
very hard professor. You will fail if you dont study hard everynight! Final exam will determine your grade.
In terms of material she is a great professor and really knows her stuff. However, shes not the friendliest professor. Really strict about attendance and being on time. Course material is tough no matter who you take.
great teacher, willing to help and very nice.
get ready to teach yourself finance...very short lectures which she reads from slides...no examples...not very friendly when trying to get help. if shes so good at finance why isnt she in the real finance world makin $$. im sure she can make more than 51,444 in the real world
This class is hard no matter who is teaching it. Do your homework over and over prior to tests.
She's a good professor, can be kind of boring though. Take this class before Accounting 201 & 202, some of it overlaps. She gives hints on the homework and the tests are just like it. So if you do well on the homework you'll do well on the tests. I'd recommend her.
She was very rude and her class was extremely hard. She isnt a very good teacher and her tests arent anything like the homework problems assigned
Great professor. She is very clear and structured. She will explain it until you understand. Do the homework and you will do fine. The first test is the worst. KNOW THE FORMULAS!!!! Get comfy with your calc you will use what she teaches you on it in all FIN courses.
Understand the homework and the test are easy!! Cake work... Be prepared for a lot of homework
One of the craziest teacher you are going to encounter. She is not friendly at all. Doesn't take excuses for being late/absent. She makes her own homework; she doesn't use the textbook, but you will need it since you have to be prepare to teach yourself finance. I went over the book chapters; did her homework several times before taking an exam.
She makes things easy, just do what she says. You have weekly quizzes on blackboard that you can retake over and over until you get 100% and people still had 50's. Ms. Stiner herself says she teaches her other classes differently but her 325 class was cake.
She makes things easy, just do what she says. You have weekly quizzes on blackboard that you can retake over and over until you get 100% and people still had 50's. Ms. Stiner herself says she teaches her other classes differently but her 323 class was easy mode.
Mrs. Stiner made finance somewhat do-able for those who have no interest in it. She loves the whole aspect of it, and shares her own life experiences with it, good or bad. She gives a lot of hw, which is actually good b/c it's just like the tests! Come to class ON TIME, go to finance mtgs=massive EC! and do the hw, you'll pass no doubt with a B.
Weekly HW assignments, mandatory attendance (taken promptly @ 8am, no tardies excepted) if you miss more than two classes you grade begins to get lowered. 2 exams, 1 final. Very rude when asking questions in class.
Tests are basically just a comprehensive homework assignment. Online hw, you get to try as many times as you want. I would keep all your homework assignments, they help you study for the test/final. Also drops test and replace grade with your final exam grade. If your not a finance major, this may be your best choice
Very nice teacher, willing to explain everything to you. Finance isn't easy, but at the same time, not to hard. Classes are mandatory and can only miss 3, tardyness is counted as absent. Expect a lot of homework, but it will benefit you at the end.
Ms Stiner is a nice person and a pretty good teacher. Lots of stories, so many I think she forgets which ones she has told us already. Tests are pretty standard. Do the homework in the book and online (Hope connect is better when you take her, because its annoying) If you have the time she gives extra credit for attending the finance club.
Professor is the best finance professor I have had at ODU. Her class is extremly organized and she will do anything in the world to help her students succeed. her tests are not a surprise and she gives study guides and quiz's to help you out. Disclaimer: she does have a 10 page stock analysis that is demanding. Great teacher---fun class!
Good Worker
Professor Stiner is the best finance teacher you can get. This is my second time taking finance and I wish I had her for my first time. She gives you all your homework hints that you need. Thats very helpful, and the tests are not difficult as long as you do the homework and study from that you should be fine. TAKE HER IF YOU CAN. :)
I wish Ms. Stiner taught every class. She is the best teacher I've ever had. Test questions are just like the homework questions, she doesn't try to trick or mislead you. Don't take her if you're one of those people who thinks you deserve special treatment. You have to study & attend class. It's a good bit of work but it's worth it.
She is extremely nice and very helpful. Homework is done online, and she gives hints to help you. Her tests are all multiple choice and relatively easy if you study. Attendance is mandatory and the final is cumulative. Take her!
Amazingly helpful, kind and I felt she actully cared. Homework assignments via Connect (on line)..... unlimited times (so no excuse not to get 100% on hw). Extra credit for finance club meetings. No formula sheet, difficult for me because I could not retain all the formulas. BUT I made it and am thrilled. Would recommend her!
doesn't exactly help you. Don't bother emailing she doesn't answer your questions just responds with rude comments
Really nice and helpful. Must go to class and must do the homework on time (might take a while). Her tests are only easy if you know all the steps! take notes and don't stay behind on the material because it's hard to catch up.
Attendance is taken and part of your grade. You receive extra credit for attending Finance Club meetings. She uses the book?s powerpoint. Don?t buy the book. Pay attention in class, study, and turn in your assignments (only a few, very easy) & you will do fine. 1 informative project at the end.
I would highly recommend this teacher. She provides more than enough help and advice to get you through the semester. The book is useful for extra practice and the vocab that appears on exams. Xtra credit avaiable.
Great teacher! Always there to help and makes sure you understand. She takes attendance and can only miss 2 classes, after that deductions taken from final grade. There are 3 exams (final is comprehensive) and connect homework problems every chapter count as 15% of grade. Do book problems before connect problems for an easy 100. Take her!
Very knowledgable about the subject. Talks a lot, but very helpful! Exams are NOT multiple choice, fill-in-the blanks and solving problems. A cumulative Final and a 10-page research paper in the end. Exams, for the most part, are same problems as homework with different numbers. If you do the HW right and study definitions, you will do good!
She is very helpful. Some people may think shes mean because she's TRUTHFUL. You don't even have to really pay attention in class. Use the hints she gives on BB and the book solutions to get a perfect score on the homework. She also tells you exactly what will be on the test. Just study, practice the connect problems, and you'll get an easy A.
She is a tough cookie, but I would recommend her over any other professor. Class overall is not hard if you know how to math, lol, but only downside is a cumulative final.
She's amazing. Clear on when hw is due, when tests are, etc. Must go to class or grade suffers. She wants you to succeed and really cares. Hw is easy and tests are basically hw with different numbers. Take her!
Maureen Stiner is a nice but firm teacher. Fin 323 is set up in a way that as long as you study the material and do the practice quizzes on connect, there should be no issues on the tests. Would recommend.
Stiner is a fair teacher. She helps you with HW in class. I scored 100 on the first two tests. However the third test and the final were nothing like the connect hw. I got an 80 on the third test and bombed the final. Do the hw, and hopefully the hw will be like the final. All the tests are MC. I ended up with a B+.
Ms. Stiner is awesome. breaks things down for you, explains even the simplest things, and her class gave me the breakthrough i much needed. for the first three exams, study the connect hw problems!!!! do the extra credit! the last exam contained alot of info, which hurt many students. it was mere memorization the last few weeks. final is very hard!
Mrs. Sinter is an excellent teacher who has a passion for what she teachers and her students. You must study, this is a hard class, attendance is mandatory, home work is imperative, but she will help you if you need it. Great teacher! If you are serious about school this is the teacher if you want an easy pass choose another degree.
I had to drop the class with asligul erklan because i was failing and she made the material hard to understand. but when i took with ms stiner it was so much easier, she is such a great teacher and makes the material understandable! if you are taking this class, take her!!! weekly homework, 3 tests and 1 final.
She's a heartless teacher that only cares about herself. There aren't any reviews for tests, so you have to make up your own reviews. Majority of what she tests you on, she doesn't teach. She expects you to have read the chapter. She gives 20 multiple choice questions on each of her tests (5 vocab that she hasn't told you about, 15 word problems)
Professor Stiner is extremely clear in what she expects from you. Just like any other 300-400 level class, she is not going to hand your grades. Know your vocab words (which she tells you to study!) and know the homework problems. Most definitely willing to help outside of class. I would love to take her again. Btw, extra credit is offered!
Ms. Stiner seems tough but there are ways around that. She uses connect which you should make 100's on. 3 tests and a final, but she will drop your lowest test grade and adds that percentage to your final exam grade if you do better. I was scared that I wasn't even going to pass after a 60 on my first exam and ended up with an A in the class.
I wish I could take her for my final 3 finance courses before I graduate this next spring. People who have nothing nice to say either don't understand the material or aren't putting enough effort to understand it. I'll look back one day and speak just as highly of her. Had her for FIN 323 too
Really nice, and she knows what she's talking about. Don't even think about skipping class though, or you're doomed to fail. As long as you show some effort, she will help you out.
She is nice, but teaches way to fast for you to grasp the material. Test are completely different from connect homework. Make sure you go to class or you will fail terribly. Hard class, but offers extra credit for attending Finance club meetings.
She knows her stuff, very helpful. Do not skip class!!
This was the hardest class I have taken since Anatomy. This is a class where you NEED to study and do the homework or you will fail. 3 tests and 1 final. She will drop your lowest test grade out of the first three tests if your final is higher than any of the previous tests. Many people fail this class. Average teacher, really hard class.
For a class that only uses basic algebra, I find it more challenging than Calc 2. The class is hard, but the professor really knows what she is talking about. I find the class harder than it needed to be but other classmates think it's average. She offers extra credit for FIN meetings, lots of homework, exams are tricky. Dont miss class.
This is a hard class, she's a great teacher though. I struggled on the first test but after using all of her study hints I aced this second exam and got a B on the third. Use all the resources in this class including office hours and you should do fine. She's always willing to help.
I'm taking 18 credits and an A in her class is possible. She's hard but it's because she actually wants you to learn and understand the materials. Goes over HW in great details and all exams are similar to HW. First exam can be hard but make sure you review the accounting sheet she provided. Great professor!
Go to her finance club meetings. Saved me this semester. Material is rough... Especially at 8am. Show up at 8:01 and you are absent and will lose points/drop letter grades over it. I would take again... But that God I don't have to. Practice connect homework until you can do it in your sleep. Final is cumulative and awful, just don't cram.
Great teacher, somewhat easy class. You have to know the definitions and connect problems and you will get good grades. Go to class and pay attention, cumulative final is difficult and all encompassing. If i had to take other finance courses besides 331, I would have taken her again.
Prof Stiner is hands down the best Finance professor I've taken at ODU. Yes, the material is hard. However an A or B is easily attainable if you pay attention to her hw hints that she gives in class and prepare in advance for tests. She also offers 25 extra credit points for every finance club meeting you attend. Will be taking her 431 course!
she gives 3 test & a final, all are M/C BUT are very hard!! she tells you to study connect but her test questions aren't even close to the problems you do on connect. She does offer extra credit that goes towards your homework grade. She also takes attendance every class. I only used the text book before the exams, so a max of 4 times
Pretty tough class attendance is mandatory and exams are impossible unless you study the powerpoints and connect problems. there is extra credit, she is definently a solid teacher and I would recommend her
Great Professor that really wants you to succeed. 3 tests and cumulative final. Material isn't easy. You must master and genuinely understand it to pass the tests. I highly recommend doing the optional book problems/connect practice before classes. HW is an easy A. Extra credit for going to finance club meetings. Grade on final replaces lowest test
I took her for 323 as well as 431. She is probably one of the best teachers I've had at ODU. She really cares about her students and will work with you if you're struggling. Extra credit for attending finance meetings. 431 tests are not multiple choice but just like HW. Tells you exactly what is on final. Overall amazing professor, highly recommend
She was the best professor Ive ever had at ODU. She is a very passionate teacher and truly wants her students to succeed. Her tests follow the study guide. 3 finals and a cumulative final. There is a 10 page stock analysis paper, but she is a very fair grader. Make sure you take/study class discussion notes, they were on each test and the final.
Isn't very nice. I had a personal emergency and she was the only professor to not be accommodating. She takes attendance before class begins to start the lecture on time, but this means if you aren't EARLY you are late.
She is DEFINITELY one of my favorite and best teachers at ODU, hands down. She's freaking hilarious. Go to class every day bc she takes attendance, but also bc you'll enjoy it! She always gives homework hints for Connect, and the hw is really easy. Take good notes, review the problems and look over the vocab before every test and you'll do fine!
You have to do the practices and really put effort into this class. Theres extra credit if you attend the finance club meetings. Really good at explaining the material. Drops the lowest exam n weighs the final heavier
Maureen is a solid choice for 323. Does a great job at breaking finance down & helping students out. You have Connect HW (10 Q's) allows multiple attempts. Attend FIN Club every week for extra credit! Trust me, attending was worth it when it came to our final grade. Plus she buys Papa John's every meeting. Exams are HARD. Form a study group to pass
