Was very nice and understanding. Class was hard, but she was nice.
Fabulous teacher, she made the class worthwhile. I learned alot about myself
Great prof. Works really hard to be sure students get the most out of her class
Very Easy class, easy exams, just do your homework, all for the student
very understandable, helpful, nice, and makes even theme classes worth your time
grades papers hard, but teaches class like we're in 4th grade
Awesome prof... very easy and likes her students
Don't miss class. No sympathy for anyone, even if you're in the hospital.
Great lady, all she wants you to do is think
Easy class..gets a little repetive, but very nice prof
all she wants is her students to look at themselves! great class
Great teacher. Really cares.
Exellent Prof & great class! You can learn alot if you want to!

BEST LIB STUDIES CLASS AT GVSU. MAKES YOU REALLY LEARN LIBERAL EDUCATION AND ITS CONCEPTS. DEFINETLY WANT THIS LIB CLASS.

Very interesting and fun class...be prepared for a lot of writing.

She is a very fun teacher. Not all bookwork like some profs. Made learning fun!
Wonderful professor! No exams, few quizes, but they're okay. Lots of writing, but it's your thoughts and ideas. Learn a lot and fun class! Definitly must take her if you need the class!
AWESOME professor. it was an SWS class but not too terribly difficult. she really looks after her students. such an excellent class. 100% recommend her!!
Relies too much on group work to get discussion going. RCAs are sometimes too easy. Does a good job of explaining concepts with popular culture references (The Allegory of the Cave and The Matrix, for example)
Great teacher.. but her mythology class was really difficult. Get her for LIB!
She is an AWESOME teacher. She really wants to make sure you learn the material. It's kind of a lot of reading but if you keep up, you'll be fine!!
class is not arranged well. the topics people are interested in she glosses over and then the subjects no one is intrested in she spends lots of time on.
Very enthusiatic and willing to help. Made a three hour class seem like about an hour.
She was a good professor, the class kind of sucked though. I'd like to have her in a better class than mythology.
Good teacher. Pretty easy class with a fair amount of reading.
If you have to take a LIB class try to get this professor.this also counted as an SWS she has structure all the while still letting you explore and formulate your own ideas. You won't regret taking her, unless you don't want to think
very good prof. makes sure each student understands the readings and material covered. tests are pretty hard. she is very helpful and understanding also. If you need to take lib 100 i recommened this prof
Nice lady, expects too much for a 100 level class at times however. Do the readings and take notes while doing so, and the RCA's shouldn't be too bad...
Easy course if it wasn't for the busy crap. She thinks were all in 3rd grade again with some of the ridiculous stuff she has us do. Her grading sucks and she's a boring teacher, don't take her for a 3hr class. you'll need a pillow
great prof., interesting topics and guest speakers.
she seems to think she is teaching bio203 or something, takes the clas to seriuosly, has us read about teaching styles that works, but doesn't use them. loves to give busy work and grades bad. save your papers she will mess up ur grade.
She's a very nice Professor. It was a fairly easy class and she really enjoys teaching the subject. I would definitely reccomend this Prof.
WAY too much work/reading for a 100 level class. You can tell she cares about liberal arts, the problem is i dont so it was boring.
I really like her style of explaining things so that you can understand them.
It was awesome, she was awesome the class is very helpful....
She is one of the most down to earth profs i have ever had, it almost seems like she is part of the class, not the teacher.
She expects you to put her class first when it comes to her papers. In addition, she isn't very helpful when you ask her to clarify what she is looking for in a paper. You have to compare to books that you read "metaphorically" and it is harder than one would think!
So i love mythology, it has always been one of my passions. But she makes it so boring and stupid. She will ask you your opionon and then when you say it, she is like ummmm no your wrong. Also she does nto explain anything just gives you the notes and expects you to figure it out.
Class is centered on mythology. Helpful and fun teacher but grading is questionable, seems to mark off points without much justification.
This class seemes to require interest in literature. If your a science major..i wouldn't recommend it
She's super sweet, but I've heard other prof. are easier. That's not to say the class is difficult, but there's quite a bit of work and effort involved. I wouldn't recommend taking this and WRT 150 at the same time...too much writing! She's very passionate about liberal education and towards the end of the semester I just didn't care anymore.
I wouldn't recommend her...and I'm an A student.
Worst teacher I have ever had in the history of my education. She treats you like a 3rd grader and if you voice your opinion she tells you you're wrong. I'm an A student and her grading is so unreasonable. She will take off unnecessary points bc she refuses to see it any other way than of her own. Don't enroll in her class!
If I hear the words Liberal Education one more time I might scream...horrible class! And if you're taking this as a Gen Ed...I suggest getting a different professor because other sections have A LOT less work!!
Beware! I was told by many that this was a slacker class, she will make you do more work than most of your other classes. Terrible teacher and by far the worst professor I have ever had!
This teacher was so confusing...I never knew what was really going on. Papers can be almost impossible. There were things due sometimes that I didn't even know about. Not clear, but she is very nice and understanding maybe she knows how confusing she is.
Wouldn’t recommend taking this class with her as the professor. Hard grader, and good luck getting a good grade on the papers. Never gave the opprotunity to make an appt. outside office hours
She seemed like a very down to earth person. She liked to talk about her daughter alot. There was homework and reading but if you put some genuine effort you should do fine. Going to class helps alot too. I thought it was a very thought provoking class although I did get a bit sick of hearing Liberal Education over and over.
I really enjoyed this class. She is a wonderful professor. She is sometimes unclear on what she expects, but if you just ask her, she'll explain more. Very nice lady and very caring.
yeah, it's easy enough and she is a nice person. however, i had a huge problem with how she just didn't seem quite intelligent enough to be a professor. most of the time, it seemed like she was teaching material she couldn't quite grasp herself.
I enjoyed this class. In the begining it wasn't clear what she expected, but if you just ask her, she'll explain. Go to her office if you need more help she is more than willing to sit down with you. Lot of homework and reading. Try to keep up with the assignments they are portioned out nicely & if you let them pile up you will get overwhelmed.
Professor Wolverton really put her heart into this class. Any teacher that shows a passion for what they teach keeps my interest. The class is very open, keep up on contemporary issues and make an effort to take your education one step further and you're golden. Take notes on everything you read or talk about in class, a HUGE tip for the tests...
Great personality, has a passion for teaching. I really enjoyed the class. Pay attention, participate in class and keep up with the assignments. Very helpful outside of class. Lots of reading and written work but easy.
She is a very nice prof, but there is a lot more work involved than I had expected from a 100-level class. She is really passionate about liberal education, and really wants to engage her classes in higher-order thinking skills. If you do not have much time outside of class to attend 5 co-curriculars, and read a novel, DO NOT take this class. Easy?
LIBERAL STUDIES IS A WASTE OF TIME. it's true she is nice but you can't help but feel like you're in a kindergarten class. also, talks about her daughter an inordinate amount of time.
I love Maureen... she is sooo nice and helpful and has an obvious passion for this class. There are a lot of assingments in class, but they are SO easy. It's kind of a pointless class, but I learned from it. If you let the work pile up, then it can be unbearable. Just keep up with the assinments and you'll do fine!
Such a nice, approachable lady! I enjoyed going to her lectures so much. We got a little off topic here and there and it takes awhile to get class started, but i liked that. Very laid back and interesting. We read great books, and her thoughts we helpful. She is a tough grader though, don't be fooled.
I really was not looking forward to this class. Many people say that it is a waste of time, but with her you actually learn something. The class is not hard, all you need to do is put a little effort forward. If you take Lib 100 get her as you prof., you will not regret it!
Totally unfair grading
She is a nice lady but don’t be fooled by that when it comes to her grading. She likes to play favorites and the class is just pointless. If anything she has messed up my life journey. Way to much outside work for a Lib class, I have more important classes to worry about and she expects you to put hers first.
great teacher. fun class, pay attention and dont fall behind for an easy A
I do not advise you to take this class or this prof. The class is pointless and I learned nothing, which was hard since the final was a presentation on what you had learned. If you miss more than 4 classes she fails you, so if you aren't dedicated then don't take her. She is looney! Class was BORING but not too hard.
She is such a great teacher! Going to her class in the middle of a long day of classes was fun and relaxing. She expects well written papers (but duh, this is college) and attendance is mandatory. The quizzes are fair and so is every other aspect of her grading. Overall, I wish I could take her again!
She is an extremely hard teacher. she thinks she is teaching this class to philosophy majors when really it's a bunch of kids who want an easy A. there is no easy A with maureen as a teacher. TONS OF WORK IN AND OUT OF CLASS!!! MIDTERMS AND FINALS ARE INSANELY HARD
She is crazy and defiantly plays favorites. Right from the beginning of the semester she'll talk about how it's an easy class but do not listen to her! It may be an easy class but she sucks at grading and will give you a bad grade if it's not what she wants to hear.
She is a really nice woman, and the class was a breeze. The assignments were simple. The readings were difficult but we always discussed them in class to get a better understanding. The final presentation is really easy. She will basically accept anything. She is sorta goofy too which lightens the mood. Take Her!
Easy class. Really tough to get an "A" because she is a tough grader and you need a 95% to get an "A", but you should easily get a B. Lots of readings and class discussion.
This is a pretty easy class. She is not too hard, the assignments are pretty easy and she gives you the questions for the test ahead of time. The tests are all essay, but you are allowed to use a notecard and you have the questions. She makes class fun and interesting. I would recommend her for a fairly easy class.
Great prof. She knows the material that she teaches very well. At the beginning there are a ton of readings and papers to write but it gets easier as the semester progresses. As long as you understand what is being talked about in class and participate you will be good!
I really did like Professor Wolverton. She's very nice and really will help you outside of class. LIB 100 in general is harder than people think. It was a lot of reading and writing, but she's not too hard of a grader. 2 presentations through the course and no official final. Just a paper due. I would take her for sure.
Take this professor for Lib 100. Makes a boring class enjoyable and easy. Really gets the whole class involved and never lets anyone get bored. Fairly tough grader on papers but recognizes effort when you give it and she rewards you for it.
I never rate my professors, but I felt she deserved the compliment. She's amazing. Take her. She's one of those professors that you wouldn't mind getting lunch with. Very down to earth and understanding. Her grading is reasonable and she really understands that different people learn different ways.
She is so wonderful and insightful! Maureen really delves into subject that make you discover new things about oneself every class! She has amazing ideas and really communicates well. It is a discussion based class and she is very open to free speech. I highly suggest taking her! She is truly a wonderful addition to GVSU.
Wow. Maureen is wonderful. This class uses interesting books to read, use&discuss. She makes class fun using a variety of discussion&teaching techniques. She is funny&entertaining. Definitely passionate about her classes and students.Take her for sure, you'll never regret it! This class was out of my major, yet the best class I have taken.
Professor Wolverton was great. She is the most kind hearted professor you will ever meet. She is AMAZING at keeping you updated on what assignments needs to be done. She is crystal clear in everything she does. The course did involve a lot of reading but coming from a person who hates to read, I enjoyed the books and the course.
She is very nice and helpful, and always as an extremely positive mood which makes the class fun and the time fly by. The only drawback is the required "co-curricular" activities. Four are REQUIRED throughout the semester, and I'm a commuter who lives 30 minutes off campus so often times I couldn't find interesting events at convenient times.
Professor Wolverton truly cares about her students understanding and success, while she isn't a push over and her grading isn't easy if you show up, contribute to class and read the books the tests are easy. Her clear instructions for assignments makes them simple to complete correctly and get high marks.
Professor Wolverton is amazing! She is incredibly sweet and wants her students to succeed. Do the assignments and you will be golden. Also, be sure to study for the exams and prepare for the final project. The class was fairly easy as long as you do the work. In the end, Professor Wolverton and the class was inspirational and fun.
She is a great prof! You basically get into groups every class and talk about the readings you did the night before. The exams are just write two essays and one of them is even take home. It is a lot of busy work but if you read then you'll get an A!
Amazing professor! Took LIB 100 as a gen ed and loved it! Each class was inspiration and Professor Wolverton is a great lady. Except, be aware there are a lot of readings for this class but I promise they're interesting!
Professor Wolverton is definitely as good as they get! Shes super easy and easy to talk to! You do have to attend 4 co-curricular, and the tests are short answer and 1 presentation. But there is no way you wont get an A. I would definitely suggest her!!!
great lady, kind of bias on the grades, but if you show up, expect a B+ or better
Professor Wolverton is very sweet and easy to talk to. She is always willing to help you! There are only one or two tests and they are based off of readings in class, and a presentation at the end instead of a final. Highly recommended! I was able to apply what I learned to other classes, and even used them to complete other assignments.
If you show her you're trying (going to office hours writing center for take home exam) she will notice and it could help your grade. Class has a couple of assignments but the bulk of it is from the 1st exam (in class essay) and 2nd exam (take home essay) and an integrative presentation at the end.
Maureen is an amazing person. She is very kind and genuinely cares about her students. I found myself enjoying the assigned readings. If you actually do the readings and participate in class, you will do well. The coursework itself is very easy. Your grade just depends on how much you apply yourself.
She is very nice and helpful. The class could be very deep and interesting if the class is into it, but for the most part the content level is pretty basic. She cancels class about once every two weeks which is pretty cool, and the second half of the semester is a lot easier than the first!
Professor Wolverton is a great human being and I did enjoy LIB 100. You have many course readings that you do and you have two big exams that are essays and one presentation final. As long as you do all the reading you will be fine. Her grading is extremely tough and I think I little too harsh sometimes. Ex. You either get an A or B. No inbetween.
TAKE HER.
Professor Wolverton is AMAZING!!! You will really enjoy this class because of how interesting she makes each class. She is very good at explaining each subject that we went over in class. The project at the end gives each student a chance to be creative in their on way. I do recommend this class to EVERYBODY!!!
This professor created a syllabus and failed to follow her own syllabus. She would get very confused about assignments that were due and then change her mind last minute, every time. She did not answer questions well either, like with a thought out answer. In addition, she just didn't seem to care to teach the class either, which is a shame.
This course had so much writing I can't believe it wasn't an SWS. Wolverton is nice and very clear of what she wants. She posted updates twice a week on exactly what you needed to do and that was very helpful. Lots of discussion posts but the information is engaging and interesting.
I took Professor Wolverton for LIB100 online. Although I never met her in person, she gave great feedback on assignments & was very organized, helpful, & quick to respond with any questions. Beware however - if you do not like reading & writing on a regular basis - do not take this class. LOTS of both. Easy A if you follow deadlines & put in effort
Decently easy. Had to read 3 books and do weekly 1 page discussion papers. There were 2 somewhat big papers throughout the semester and a final presentation. There are definitely worse ways to knock out GVSUs ridiculous issues class requirement. I would easily take her again and recommend the class to anyone considering it.
Wolverton does a great job synthesizing the readings and coursework, and really encourages everyone for the co-circulars. No final exam- but there's a presentation and was flexible. She emails and posts on Blackboard weekly, and even writes on the board and begins each day with what the day/week brings. Definitely recommend her for LIB100!
Professor Wolverton was so awesome to have as a professor, this class kind of changed my life! Highly recommend
TOUGH GRADER!! one bad grade and you will not get an A. However, she makes you turn your paper in a week early to get feedback this is good for procrastinators and helps you get a better grade. You will just have to try hard.
Professor Wolverton is the best! I call her 'my mom professor'. She really wants to get to know her students and cares about them. She is passionate about liberal education and actually changed the lives of some of my classmates this semester. Definitely recommend this class and Professor Wolverton.
Ridiculous workload. Horrible feedback on drafts and when you ask her for help she tells you to ask a librarian. Gives huge projects and still assigns other work to be done. Has you read and revise your classmates 5-7 page papers instead doing it herself. Im used to putting in work for a class but this is ridiculous, I do NOT recommend taking her
Making Waves about Water was a really interesting class. Especially because Prof. Wolverton was so passionate about the topic. Learning about the Great Lakes was extremely fascinating and I have given out the book for my friends to read. I highly recommend Prof. Wolverton.
I would never take Professor Wolverton again, honestly the worst professor I've ever had. Her feedback is HORRIBLE on everything that you submit and you'll be extremely frustrated trying to communicate with her because she is so dense. She'll tell you that you did everything perfect and then gives you a B. DO NOT TAKE her online if you can help it!
Professor Wolverton cares about her students and wants to see them succeed. This class was amazing and there are many takeaways from it as well. It's quite a bit of deep thinking and a good amount of reading, but the class is very interesting!
I had Professor Wolverton for this course focused on the Great Lakes. I throughly enjoyed the assignments as they were straight forward as long as you read the book. It's truly worth a read and helps you on the quizzes. Take this class if you need a quick 1-credit six week course.
Professor Wolverton is a very nice lady. The class has a lot of lengthy homework and requirements that you have to do. I overall did not enjoy this class very much, but she is very caring and will help you in any way that you need.
Maureen Wolverton is the worst Professor i have had. Don't take this class. She assigns way too much homework during the week. She doesn't understand that we have life outside of school such as working 40 hours a week. I don't recommend anyone to take her!!
Maureen Wolverton is a nice professor but a terrible professor. Assigns way to much homework for a summer class. She stresses out students who work 40 hours a week on top of a lot of homework for Life Journey. You are required to get 3 books which are interesting but its a lot of reading.
Professor Wolverton is a good professor. I wouldn't recommend taking her class in the summer because it is accelerated. There is so much homework that you have to do. You have to read 3 books but they are interesting. You have to do 2 papers but they are pretty easy.
She is a great professor who is very nice, very knowledgable and cares about her students. But she assigns a lot of homework and it is very time consuming for a gen ed. There is a lot of reading, videos to watch, writing, and attending events outside of class. But if you need help she is very gracious.
Professor Wolverton is a decent professor. I took her Life Journey's class this summer and it was ok. For how much homework we have to do throughout that class, do not take it as a summer class. Overall, she knows her stuff and cares about her students but assigns way too much homework.
I would never recommend this teacher to anyone, out of all of the level 100 classes I've taken this has been the hardest. My level 400 INT classes aren't time-dependent and challenging as she sets things up. I felt like I had to say something about her because she is honestly a bad teacher. She grades tough and assigns a lot of homework. RUN!
She is a very nice person and gives good feedback. There is a lot of work in this class in my opinion, discussions every week and can be difficult to keep track of as it is an asynchronous course. She took student feedback and gave us updates throughout the week which was amazing. Homework/discussions are usually graded easily, they just take time.
Worst professor at GV by far. One of those professors that does not believe in perfection and will do everything in her power to mark you down to a B. Disappointed in GV that they would hire someone who very clearly does not know how to teach.
treats int 100 like its a 300 class minimum, worst class ive ever taken at gv
Assigns a lot of discussion board assignments. Lots of writing too. I did all the assignments and still got a C+ because she marked down heavily on subjective things on stuff like the assignments for going to campus events and write about what we did there. The final essay flagged me for plagiarism, I would've failed if I didn't annoy her by email
this class took up more time than my core requirements. she grades her papers so hard and theres so many of them. shes nice but this class is such a pain and teaches such useless information. barely had time to study for my important finals because i was too busy writing a ten page paper for this class.
I did well in this class, but took up so much of my time. I took this class thinking it was going to be an easier class because I was taking 3 300-level classes. The final exam is what made me the most upset because this is a 100-level class and I should not have to write 3 essays that are 2-3 pages each. I would not recommend this professor.
All I have to say is do not take this professor. I did well throughout the semester, but when it came to the midterm and the final exam, she marked me down on everything. This is a 100-level class, not a 300-level. I should not have had to write nine pages for a final. RUN!
Professor Wolverton assigns a heavy workload, but the class is manageable with dedication. The readings are interesting, and Unstuck study can be a helpful study tool. Worth taking if you're willing to put in the effort.
I took her INT 314 class and it was a lot harder than it seemed it would be. There is a lot of reading that goes into this class and a lot of discussion posts and having to reply to others discussion posts. The final the worst part I ended up having to change my paper at the last minute.
Take LIB 100/INT 100 with Maureen! I promise it will be the most important class of your life. I took this class after going to an extremely sheltering high school where one opinion was the only opinion and everything was black and white. This class changed my entire outlook on life and was crucial to the rest of my college and business career.
W of a professor. She is so sweet and funny. Her mindfulness class for one credit is definitely the way to go. 100% recommend for an easy credit.
