He was interesting. I enjoyed his class.
His class was very interesting, and I enjoyed it. His tests were hard, and usually had more than one correct answer, problem is, you have to guess what he thinks is the best one!!
Very tricky tests and quizes.

By far the best teacher at Northeast!!!!
Want to learn about US History? Take Stirewalt!
This professor has been the most informative and interesting instructor I have ever had for a class. His broad vocabulary and complete details made me want to learn more about American beginnings. I would reccommend this teacher to anyone!! I would love to see him teach History II in the spring.
Excellent teacher, he teaches with a passion for the subject! I would love to take his class again!!
Dr. Stirewalt knows his history, but he is an extremely hard professor in my opinion. He's a hard man to follow. Oftentimes, he'll speak about things that have nothing to do with material on quizes and tests. I'd avoid this class if possible.
Very exciting in class, however, test are very detailed
I loved his lectures! He is very intense and dramatic. His tests were on the tricky side, but make sure and read and reread his handouts and do the extra credit and you'll do fine and end up enjoying history!!

Not very helpful at all. I did learn a thing or two from him, though. He is very opionated and doesn't care to share these either. I f you enjoy a little debate and a lot of lecture, take his class.
Very enjoyeable lectures. the tests were challenging but intresting. I would recommend for anyone who enjoys history.
Mr. Stirewalt truly seems to love what he is teaching. He wants you to learn about history not just sleep through his class and expect an "A". If you are interested in history you will love his class.
Dr. Stirewalt is an incredible historian! If there is anything about history HE doesn't know, it doesn't need to be known. His tests are hard, UNLESS you study and pay attnetion to his hand-outs! I learned a lot!!!!!
I learned a whole lot from this class! His test are hard but everything on the test he does cover in class. Pay attention and take good notes and read the handouts and you will do well. He is a fantastic historian.
I thought he was one of the worst teachers I have ever had.
Worst teacher i have ever had. He does manage to do a alittle teaching between the GD's and fussing about WWII
Test are very hard and trickey. He lectures the whole class period and you just can't take it all in. Very boring. Dont sit in the front of the class he will try to intimidate you.
RUN WHILE YOU CAN!! Horrible teacher, I do not suggest you take his class.
He SUCKS!!! The only thing that saved me in his class was the 10 hours of community service for 25 extra credit points! His tests are hard! He sounds like a radio talk show host while he lectures or maybe a preacher not sure all i know is don't take his class or if you have him drop him!!
Come on people, Stirewalt is the real thing. If you want to feel like you're in a college class, take this guy. He knows his stuff.
This class was terrible. He preached history to us. He rambled without pausing, theres no way you can write it all down. His test are really tricky and hard. If you are looking for a history teacher you should take Brewer.
Stirewalt knows his stuff, and is actually interested in what he teaches. Also, if you think Rodney Dangerfield was funny, you won't be bored in his class. He kind of looks like Dangerfield, talks like him, and his eyes bulge out sometimes. Its great. Pay attention in lecture and you won't need your book to study.
An excellent teacher. Dr. Stirewalt is a very distinguished and knowledgeable man. His tests were right from his handouts and he gives study guides ahead of time. He really made the colonial era come to life in his lectures. It was the best class I ever had in college.
Outstanding in lectures, but tests are absolutely ridiculous. His test usually have some much on them theres no chance to pass them. He even told us at the very beginning in that class that no one ever passes the first test if that tells ya anything. Avoid at all costs is the only thing i can tell unsuspecting students who end up having him for it.
he is absolutely the worst teacher ever. he is extremly hard and boring. many people including me failed his class last semester. i even did the community service and that didnt help at all. his test are really hard, he doesnt go over the information thats on them. he sucks. he is boring and he yells and cusses all the time. DO NOT Take this class.
I didn't like his class at first but towards the end I appreciated his working us hard, I learned very well in his class. I would recommend if you like to learn and you will work hard to take his class
everyone will tell you to not take him that he's hard. yes, this is true, but if you actually want to learn history, he knows his stuff. his tests are insanely hard, but if you study, you'll be amazed on how you do.
He has a <3 4 what he does. Im not gonna get on here and stay stuff like "he sucks" because thats not true. I do know that I personally wish I wouldnt have taken his class. I never understood any of the tests, yes there were handouts but Im sorry there was WAY too much information on the tests,& there are only 2 the whole semester.VERY HARD!
His class was very hard. The handouts have nothing to do with the test. I do think he knows history, and I did enjoy the actual class. I don't see how anyone could make above a c in his class.
His tests are painful, He expects you to cover a lot of material, and most students hate him. I learned more about history from him than any prof I have every had, I respect him and wish all of my professors were as demanding.
Dr. Stirewalt is very knowledgeable and professional. His lecture is traditional you listen, he talks. I found his lectures interesting. I agree that his test cover alot of material and are difficult, but not impossible. Go to class; pay attention; do your study guide; and review handouts(it's all in there). I hardly used the text book.
Dr. Stirewalt is a very interesting professor to listen to. He knows history very well, and his lectures are enjoyable. His tests are hard, but if you study the handouts well, you should do fine.
Dr. Stirewalt was one of my favorite teachers at NE State. He's very clear about the material and gives his tests from material on study guides. His tests are hard, but if you actually study you'll be fine, I got an A in his class and I don't really see how people fail unless they refuse to come to class or study.
Hard but fair.
Great Teacher. Tough Tests.
It's been a while since I took this class, but I'll never forget how hard it was. He was interesting to listen to, but the tests were probably the hardest I've ever taken at Northeast State. If you take his class, be prepared.
First day of class. Professor states he feels "a woman's place is in the kitchen" and "muslims are all 20th century thugs with 21st century weapons." From that point on, I knew it was going to be a strange ride. Likes to rant, loves the subject, great teacher other than being cemented in the 60's. Kinda has a sturn grandpa demeanor. Would take agai
Very hard class. I guess if history is your thing then you'll love it. His tests are extremely hard!!!
He likes what he teaches and tries to make his stories fun but during class he lectures the whole time and the study guides are long and hard like the tests.
Everyone said how hard he is but if you cram in the study guide a couple of days before his test you'll do fine on it. He does lecture the entire class but he is hilarious. He sounds just like Robert D. Rayford. If you are an antsy person who isn't great at paying attention you might not like this class. I definately plan on taking more classes wit
HE IS GIVE A GOOD LECTURE. BUT HIS TEST ARE LIKE TAKING EXAMS EVERY TIME, YOU'LL BE OK IF YOU GO BUY THE STUDY GUIDE. I WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN BUT YOU GOTTA REALLY PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS.
He was horrible. I don't reccomend him AT ALL! The average grade for test 1 ( with 10 extra credit points) was 63. The average for test 2 ( with 20 extra credit points) was 73. And our class had the highest average of all the classes he teaches. DON'T TAKE HIM!!!
Stirewalt scared me too death on the first day, but after spending a few weeks in his class, I really started to enjoy going. He's tough to understand sometimes, but as long as you read your study guides and handouts, you'll do fine.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! I'm not a good test taker and his class revolves around test which are like exams each time. I do not recommend him!! He was the worst teacher i've ever had by far! I did not enjoy this class at all and dreaded it everyday!
I was worried after reading the ratings on this professor. But I shouldn't have fretted. He's excellent. His tests are hard, but they actually challenge you. Just study hard and know your study guides. He's funny and if you have any questions he will clarify things for you.
Such sweet old man! He has a great sense of humor! He goes ALL by handouts and notes... he doesn't use textbook very often. Need to be studying up to date or the tests will be really hard. Especially the fill in blanks, and matching. True/false and multiple choices aren't so bad.
He really is a sweet old man! I just loved him. He is so funny and he makes history really interesting. I'm terrible at history and I made a C in his class. I failed all the tests, even the final, but I did learn a lot in his class. If you really try and pay attention in class you might be able to pass.
He was not a terrible teacher at all, he just doesn't believe in technology and has a very monotone voice, he only lectures and alot of worksheets for you to follow with. Sweet man who wants everyone to pass but has hard tests and only half of the study guide is on the test
He's tough yes, but if you study then you'll do well. His lectures are also interesting to listen to.
I honestly thought he was a great professor. Seemed down to earth and really knew his history. I hope to take him again
Very good prof. Knows his stuff, a few easy quizzes and the tests are challenging. overall great class
Very hard class, but if you follow the handouts and review the study guide weeks before the tests, and you'll be fine. Loved listening to the lectures. Dr. Stirewalt really has a heart for history and there is much to learn just from the lectures. I wouldn't take him again, but I really enjoyed the class. Got out with a B. :D
Dr.Stirewalt is an excellent teacher who has passion about what he teaches. I consider myself lucky to have been in his class.
Very hard class... he is a very good teacher but sometimes he is very confusing at times. HIS TEST ARE VERY HARD!! im not a good test taker at all and i have not done good on any of his test!
He was a charismatic older man that really enjoys teaching. He will care about your work as much as you do. Is he hard yes, but I only studied the night before the tests and I received a B... I don't understand how most of my class failed
Do not take this professor if you are bad at testing. Hardest test I've ever taken. Most of the study guide isn't even on the test. Lectures the whole time and reads word for word off handouts. 5 test, 5 quizzes, only grades for the whole class. Class average was always failing but came out with a C. Recommend studying WEEKS beforehand.
This is a true college level class. The professor is a wonderful person who is passionate about what he teaches. His test are very hard but he offers a 20 point bonus question on each one. There's just a lot to remember. If you're looking for an easy history class to take this is not the one.
You can definitely tell he loves the subject. If you read the notes, then you'll do fine on the tests. Coming to class was a joke though. I had a hard time staying awake.
He's very into what he teaches, which is great, but it's really hard to pay attention in class. Sometimes, he will have questions on the test that refer back to something that he said in a lecture, so don't miss to many days. Read the study guides/handouts as early as you can for the tests. Watch for extra credit. Bonus points got me out with a B.
if you are looking for an easy teacher with easy test do not take this class.you do not use a book, there are pages of handouts to study and the test are hard. he only gives 5 quizzes and 3 test the whole semester. he knows what he is talking out but he isn't a good teacher. also it is hard to stay awake during class.
Not a very good teacher. It is not the fact of the difficulty, it is that he does not clarify what you should really know. Way too many handouts, with information on them scattered throughout them, and you don't really learn much after the course is over. Would not recommend.
He is a wonderful guy, he really loves History. But his tests are harder than trying to stuff a camel into the back of a VW Golf. He doesn't really clarify well. He is very traditional, as far as life is concerned. If you dare to speak against his old timey ways, he will hit you with a brick he keeps around.
Dont understand all the bad comments people are giving him. Read the 10 page biographies twice and youll make a 100 on the quizzes. The study guide is on point if you actually take time to answer the questions. He gives a 20 point bonus question on every test and tells you what it is on the study guide. Then he gives 25 points for volunteering. Easy!
Highly invested in his class, make sure to read the hand outs and make sure to highlight key points. Do make sure to keep notes while he lectures, and make sure you understand the readings and the hand outs. If you do not understand something make sure and ask he will break it down and expand upon it for you. Highly engaging lectures, and funny.
Dr. Stirewalt was a wonderful professor. He was so great at his lectures. He is definitely set in his ways but I respect that completely. The reading is not difficult but you do have to read so get ready. His quizzes are from the biography book and he hands out packets basically everyday to keep in order. I think it was a wonderful experience.
I could tell he really loved History, but unfortunately was hard to understand and made the class a lot more difficult than it needed to be.
Excellent professor, loved the class!
Really knows his history; doesn't use book at all, never opened it; provides handouts to add to for notes; tests strictly from his notes; strays off topic; hilarious; cares about his students; go to class, take the notes, read and re-read; tests are fill in the blank; gives 20 point bonus (essay etc) do the work and you will pass; would take again;
I found Dr. Stirewalt to be very boring. He has a monotone voice with long lectures, lots of handouts, and a moderate amount of reading. Just make sure to study the handouts and know them word for word as well as do all the reading you should make it out of the class with a decent grade. Good luck!!!
Mr. Stirewalt was an amazing teacher. Show up to class, read the handouts and you will pass the class. I gained a vast understanding of the founding of our nation. Highly recommend.
Mr. Stirewalt was the hardest professor I have ever had. I love history and he made me want to hate it. I didn't fail the tests but I didn't do very good either. I would not take his class unless you are a book smart history loving nerd.
Dr. Stirewalt is a great History prof. His lectures are very informational yet highly interesting. He teaches in an almost story-telling style and really enables students to view life in the past. Read his handouts, pay close attention to the extra cred. section, he tells you what will be extra credit, its +20 pts each test Cant beat that!
All of the lectures are based off of his own knowledge. Be prepared to do a lot of studying and memorization. Show up for the class, take notes, and memorize the study guide and notes he gives you and you will do good.
You have to show up to class and pay attention to pass. He only gives tests, but each one has extra credit questions at the end. He is very passionate about history, it shows in his lectures. He hands out packets that he has created with the subject material and gives study guides, so if you pay attention and study you will easily get an A.
As long as you go to class, do the study guide, and study (make note cards) a you will do well.
This was a very difficult class. Simply because your entire grade comes from four tests only. and his lectures are hard to follow. You have to read the information on your own and teach yourself if you want to pass.
He does very little but lecture. He bases the entire class on the four tests that he gives. While not an impossibly hard professor to make a decent grade in, he is insanely lecture heavy and carries the beliefs from the times when he is born so if easily offended do not take. Boring. Monotonous. High Stress. Avoid if possible.
He did all of his grading based off of four tests. Each test format is different. If you want to pass the class you need to do well on all four tests. Do not skip class because the questions on the tests are related to things he said during class.
I hated this class. I am a 3.5 GPA range student and I made a D in this class. I ended up taking it with someone else and made a A. If you have test anxiety, DON'T TAKE THIS THIS CLASS WITH HIM AS THE PROFESSOR.
