By far the best religion teacher I have had at BYU. He takes a different look at concepts and covers things that really grab your attention instead of the same thing we hear over and over. And he studies religion so he knows what he is talking about. Doesn't have a know-it-all attitude like many other religion professors. Excellent.
Professor Properzi is the man!
Most boring class. People fall asleep everyday. He just goes over what we have already read. And he does not try to bring the spirit. The tests are ok, but I would take it from someone else.
Not very interesting. He's not very good at getting ideas across and most of the time I didn't agree with what he was saying.
Uses very little energy, enthusiasm. May or may not have slides. Exam questions are very nit-picky, difficult.
I would drink a XL monster before class and still fall asleep. I used this class as nap time since we just read from the BOM, tests are impossible the average was normally 18 out of 30 but he gives good curves. TAKE THIS CLASS FROM SOMEONE ELSE
sleepiness comes to mind
Properzi is a good teacher with interesting insights and perspecetive. We had good class discussion. BUT- His Tests were way harder than they should've been. I'm a new RM and read the BOM 3 times in the last year-How did I get a B+!?? His test questions are unbelievably hard no matter how hard you study. NICE GUY THOUGH
Aghhhhh the worst class ever! Never take this class with him. His tests are nightmares!
Best professor I've ever had!
I tried soo hard not to fall asleep. Good luck with that. His test questions were way hard, no matter how hard you would study because sometimes you had to have random verses memorized! Ridiculous! He did bring some new insights and he is a way awesome guy!!
Good luck! His lectures are boring it is almost impossible to stay awake. His test questions are way too hard and his study guides are ridiculous. The only way to pass his class is to memorize the entire book of Mormon.
Most boring man alive. Do the extra credit that is the only way I got an A. The tests are so hard, I failed both the midterm and the final, but the extra credit kept me alive. I hated this class, and I dreaded going everyday. He reads off his slides that he brings. I am so glad I am over with that class.
One of the most insightful people I encountered in my time at BYU.
He's a nice guy and really smart, but this class is awful. He also seems to take things too personally. There are much better teachers for this course.
My solitare skills improved drastically as a result of taking this course. My sleeping habits benefited as well. Oh, and it was SO BORING! He is smart and nice, but you sit there for what seems like forever listening to him read from his notes. Then you get an awful exam based on it. Did I say he's really nice?
Properzi is a good teacher who cares about his students and is not only very knowledgeable but passionate about what he teaches. Although his tests are pretty hard, I think he is more than fair and provides a good amt of extra credit to help with setbacks. So getting an A is very doable...just stay on top of readings and go to class. He is also helpful and will work with you to help you succeed.
This a good teacher to take this class from. The class is not too hard and the professor provides all the tools necessary to do well in the class. He's good at accommodating the students and bringing good insights to the subject matter. I recommend his class.
I really enjoyed this class! I learned so much from it. Be prepared to work, but it's well worth it. Bro. Properzi is very willing to help students and answer questions. I would highly recommend taking this class.
I just took a class with Professor Properzi this fall semester and I do not regret my choice. This guy is a professional. He is really helpful when assisting students with their concerns. He easily becomes a friend for students. I felt comfortable when approaching him and always found guidance and respect. I recommend this professor to anyone.
Professor Properzi is a professional in his own right. He effectively assits students with their concerns and questions with respect and consideration. I just took a class with him and do not regret my choice. The methods he used were really useful to my learning. I recommend him to anyone who wants to learn and have a good time in class.
I took World Religions from Professor Properzi, and it was the best religion class I have taken so far. He covers a lot of detailed material and his tests are not easy, but the study guide for both tests tells you exactly what to study for each question, in order. Don't take his class if you don't want to learn and don't care about world religions.
I have no idea what all these people are saying about this guy. Dr. Propertzi was amazing. His class was not very difficult which was nice because it gave me a chance to freely enjoy the subject material w/o the stress of things. Yeah his tests are hard but there is a huge curve. To those who whine about his tests, try studying.
Bro. Properzi is a really great teacher. I took his world religions class and it was a really fun class, plus he is so knowledgeable and tries to find the answers to questions he doesn't know. His class wasn't that hard, the homework was only like 4 pages of reading a night, and you don't have to take very many notes; everything is on blackboard.
I loved this class. Dr. Properzi is very knowledgeable and gave a great perspective on the religions of the world. I would recommend this class to everyone and Dr. Properzi is one of the best professors you can take it from. The test were tough but he gives a great study guide, and curves to the highest grade. Loved that class and the teacher.
Dr. Properzi is a great professor and definitely wants to help his students understand the material.
I loved how he taught this class. Very professional, very informative. The class is hard-don't be deceived. If you read, pay attention in class, and try to take an interest in the material, you shouldn't have a problem getting an A. I felt that he was very concerned with my learning the material and even took time outside of class to discuss more
Mauro Properzi is one of the best professors I've had through my 4 years of school. He is so enthusiastic about the course and the material! He teaches it very well, with an excellent balance between the text, experience, class participation, personal projects, and well-written exams. Phenomenal professor; not afraid to tackle tough questions.
Great class and if you want an A it is clearly within your control to get it. He has passion for what he teaches and is respectful and welcoming of all your comments. He tries to make you think, is honest about his own perspective as LDS, and overall seeks for the good in all religions. I would highly recommend this class
I gained a much greater awareness of admirable and diverse religions in this class. Moreover, I was able to use the knowledge that I gained in this class to ace a lot of my exams in other classes, and now whenever I come across someone of another religion, I can discuss their religion with them without feeling ignorant or uneducated.
Good lectures, good information. I think everyone should have one of his classes at least once. Talks about as many controversial subjects as he can. Tests are hard though, really need to study very well. Assignments aren't too bad though.
Professor Properzi was a lot of fun. He doesn't shy away from difficult questions that he is asked, and he will bring up topics that many other people refuse to touch. I really enjoyed our discussions in class and everything that I learned--some from new insights and viewpoints he brought in and others that I just hadn't known before.
Great class! You have 2 midterms and a final, and the study guides for them are directly related to the questions he is going to ask. He has an extensive religious studies background so he teaches not just the doctrine but also the reasons behind things. Definitely recommend taking the class from him. I got an A, and didn't have to do a lot.
I really loved this class and I learned a lot. Brother Properzi is an excellent teacher and isn't afraid to tackle the hard questions. He knows how to lead a good class discussion. His tests are not difficult if you do your reading and follow his study guide. I would highly recommend D&C with Brother Properzi.
I took Brother Properzi's World Religions class. I LOVED IT SO MUCH! I learned a lot. All of the assignments we had were valuable to learning. He is willing to answer any question you have, and he is knowledgeable. You need to do your readings to do good on the quizzes. Tests are easy if you follow the study guide. I loved Brother Properzi's class!
I think this was a really interesting class, more of a focus on, Islam rather than Islam and the gospel, though some out of class papers focused more on that. He did a good job of teaching in different ways. He uses power points, but there were also some good class discussions and interesting videos. Do the reading, go to class, and you'll be fine.
This was a really informative class - walking in knowing almost nothing about the Islamic faith, I feel like I have a good understanding of the basics now. Dr. Properzi did a masterful job showing what the real belief system is behind Islam and the Qur'an.
This was a great class! It was really interesting, I learned a ton, and Professor Properzi was always very prepared for class. I really appreciated how well-organized the class was because it was always very clear what was expected of us and it was a very even work-load throughout the block. There are also no exams except for the final.
Overall, I really enjoyed this class. Dr. Properzi is a great teacher who really loves Islam. I learned a lot. If you just do the assigned reading (which isn't too much) the class isn't too difficult.
He was a great professor, and he was very knowledgeable about the material. His passion for the material made class always very interesting.
Excellent course. gives a good overview of Islam. Professor knows a lot, and has some really interesting experiences, ask about the Vatican. Italian Professor, speaks perfect English.
You think the class is easy, but then the you take the test.. They are very detail-oriented and quote "tests from Hell."
Great class! Not that hard contrary to what the previous person said. He gives a very detailed study-guide for the exam and curves the grade. He said on the first day that being a 3 credit class it is the hardest religion class but he still manages to make it enjoyable. He always answered my emails within an hour, never had that from any prof
Greatttt class. Greattt professorr!!
This Professor's a good one to go with this class. Powerpoint lectures each class that are clear and easy to understand. Reading assignment between each class (not too long, 10-20 pages, small book) for a quiz given each class. Test was straight forward, study guide to help. He teaches the class really clearly and really well. I'd suggest him.
His powerpoints are mundane. You must attend class to get points for the quizzes! He has no idea what are on his tests and is no help if you ask for clarification from the study guide or help on the daily quizzes. Information was very interesting, but the way he presented it made it very boring.
Enjoyed this class. Only 1 credit hour, so I think that's a challenge to the prof, but I feel Dr. Properzi did great with this. I thought everything we did with the class, readings and assignments, were worthwhile, interesting, and did not count as busy work. Book isn't boring. I think I really learned a lot. Definitely recommend.
Professor doesn't teach. You have reading assignments and videos. After you are quizzed on the reading/videos he pontificates about the subjects. He grades more like a English professor. Grammar is too important to him. Very knowledgeable. His tests are HORRID. His questions use uncommon language. The questions ask about useless details.
He opens up your mind to the truth you find in all religions. Hard work but all worth it...he gives you a detailed study guide for the exams and curves them. Expects college level writing but willing to help and answer all your questions. Very knowledgeable and approachable. It's a 3 credit class in every way but will never regret taking it.
Great teacher. He really makes you think about the scriptures and takes things deeper than expected. He is really knowledgeable and does not shy away from the tough questions that relate to our religion.
Very organized and detailed in his explanations. Quizzes are easy and come straight from the readings. Readings are generally short (3-5 pages) but he's hoping to switch to a new textbook in Fall 2012 so that may change. There are 2 tests, which are difficult but not brutal by any means. Fill out the study guide, study, and it'll be an easy class.
Dr. Properzi was a blast to learn with. He provides a great insight into the D&C but I felt that almost everything we learned was relevant to me and my study of the scriptures. A great pick for a D&C class!
Very interesting and fairly challenging (you have to memorize what each section is about), but not particularly spiritual.
Go to class. Do the reading before class for the quizzes that are every class. Very detailed study guides can help you get an A if you work for it. Not easy, but an A is entirely possible if you give the effort.
Very interesting class. At first I was very excited to study the material but as time passed and as my attention decreased, I started to get somewhat frustrated with the daily reading quizzes. The class takes time. But if you enjoy it, you will be fine. Don't take if you want an easy A. Properzi is awesome! You will enjoy him.
Great teacher! If you want a teacher that will really teach you, he's your man.
You should take a class from this guy if you have the chance, he's a great professor. Class was truly interesting and left me with a better understanding and appreciation of Islam. Workload: read ch b4 class + take quiz (not too bad, drops some too), some 500word papers and a final. If you go to class and do the assignments an A isn't hard
Great class! Very interesting and well-taught. A lot of info and a # of assignments, so it will keep you busy, but worth it. Great lectures; good powerpoints; you'll learn a lot and keep interested. An "A" is very doable if you put in the work; short papers and quizzes help spread the grade from just tests only. Awesome study guides for tests!
The professor's class was interesting and informative. While the class was not an easy A, a good grade is easily possible with the proper effort. I learned a lot from this class and would take this class from him in a heart beart.
Dr. Properzi is a very nice professor. His class felt a lot like Sunday school-he encourages discussion within his class. Daily work is simple--either a scripture journal or reading a book. He gives you a study guide for tests. However, you have to attend class to do well b/c his powerpoints aren't super useful!
Awesome class and competent, though-provoking professor. Really useful background knowledge to better relate with people of other faiths.
Great class. You actually learn things about church history instead of the watered down Sunday School version (and this is the perfect environment to do such things). Not only is he clear, honest and thoughtful about Church history, he makes it something that you can learn from.
His lectures are super interesting and he starts really good class discussions. He takes himself pretty seriously though and his tests are kind of hard. Attendance is mandatory and he doesn't like it when people talk in class.
The class is straightforward, the study guide is the key to succeeding on the tests, and going to class is absolutely essential.
Dr. Properzi is a great professor. His assignments and tests were not difficult if you put in some effort. He went into depth and taught with clarity.
Best class ever. It completely changed my perspective and feelings about the religion of Islam. There's an easy 4 question quiz for each class that covers the assigned readings and four additional assignments through the block that are simple. The only test is the final and it's a piece of cake. I got 356/360 points in the class and I hardly tried
Brother Properzi is a really good teacher. The class was very interesting and he taught it well. As long as you keep up with the reading you will do well on the quizzes, and the study guide prepares you for exactly what's on the test. The class was easy as long as you do the reading.
Dr. Properzi was very organized. Everything that happened in the class was indicated in the syllabus. He is not out to trick the students. Read the syllabus, do the readings before class for the quiz, and take advantage of the extra credit opportunities and you will be fine.
Professor Properzi is an excellent professor who REALLY knows his stuff. Considering the fact that our class only met once a week, he was able to very clearly and effectively teach us a lot in a very short amount of time. Very kind and helpful professor, and I really hope to get another one of his classes again.
He was a great professor and the class was fascinating, but Islam and the Gospel was a lot more work than any other 2 credit religion course I've ever taken. It wasn't like he made it ridiculously hard, there's just a lot of material to cover. THis should definitely be a 2-3 credit class. But like I said, it was worth it because he was awesome.
Great class! Quite a lot of work for one credit, but I learned a lot.
I learned so much from this class. I suggest that you do the readings before class because then, you will be able to get good grades on the quiz and the tests. The study guide helps you a lot on the tests tho.
If you follow the syllabus and do all of the assignments, an A in this class is not out of reach. Properzi's lectures are nothing out of the ordinary, but they aren't horrible either. He is a kind and caring professor who is willing to give you the help you need. For the tests, follow the study guide exactly and you should be fine.
Professor Properzi is the best professor at byu. This was the best class I've ever taken from the religion department. The test are not hard at all if you use the study guide
Brother Properzi knows his material and you can tell he is passionate about his topic. However, too much talking from his part takes place. Not too much correlation with the reading you do on the book, besides the daily quizzes. If you are not too interested in WOrld Religions I would suggest other classes.
This class was difficult to understand and the professor wasn't very helpful when I had questions. There was a quiz every day and no matter how hard I studied for it, I always got a low score.
Prof. Properzi knows his stuff and he asks very interesting questions that make you think. The class is challenging but very fair. If you do the reading quizzes are easy and when I went to his office with questions he was very helpful and kind. You will learn to appreciate other religions
Brother Properzi is my favorite professor thus far! He is hard but fair. I loved his lectures! This is a very interesting class. You will learn to appreciate other religions. I would love to take more classes from him. Very, very good!
Brother Properzi is an excellent professor. I loved his lectures! As long as you do the reading, you will ace the Quizzes - which are a significant portion of your grade. He is hard, but fair. Lots of opportunities to earn extra points which is helpful since tests are difficult. Awesome class!
He is just quite dull. He is not an entertaining lecturer. I just wasnt captured by what he was teaching and it made it really painful to study and learn.
Brother Properzi is my absolute favorite religion professor at BYU. I've taken both 351 and 352 from him, and I've learned more in these classes than I have in any other religion course. I would highly recommend both of his classes. The classes require a little more work, but the reward is well worth it.
I almost didn't take this class. SO GLAD I DID! It's fascinating, useful information. I understand myself & those of other faiths better. Highly recommend to all. Prof Properzi is upfront about what you have to do to succeed in class. Do what he says and you'll be fine. He's a fun guy, knows his stuff, & asks great questions for class discussion.
Professor Properzi really knows his stuff. He has tons of awesome experience and that really shows. He makes it seem like the class is going to be super hard, but as long as you do the reading and go to class it's pretty easy. The tests and quizzes are super simple. If you want an easy A, this is not for you, but if you want to learn, take it!
The class was actually my favorite of this semester. Readings are mandatory if you want to do well but if you do them, you will pass the weekly quizzes. And the test, he takes straight from class power points that he gives you access to for studying.
What a great guy. Bro. Properzi is very knowledgeable and I learned so much from him. Attendance is mandatory and there is quite a bit of reading and other assignments to do. A lot of work for a 2 credit class, but definitely worth it. My favorite class so far at BYU!
Great guy. Takes an active interest in students and their learning. Expansive knowledge of his subject matter.
Really enjoyed his class. Tests are straight forward and is always willing to answer questions. Reading quiz for every class, it can be tough but if you complete all of the other assignments it is really not a big deal. He offers 20 points of extra credit. Would definitely take another class form him.
Professor Properzi is strict but organized. His lectures are engaging and the reading is interesting. The quizzes every class and the number of assignments for a 2 credit class did get old though.
This was by far THE best religion credit I have taken at BYU. He's a very organized professor and tells you exactly what will be on the test. There is a lot of readings and outside work, but it's usually interesting on a level beyond just getting the grade. The text book is extremely important as his quizzes are based upon it. Take world religions!
This class, while interesting enough, is a ton of work. Between 20-40 pages of textbook reading for every class, with minutiae quizzes so that you really need to read all of it. You'd better be well prepared for the final. Also he's pretty strict on policy and doesn't give a lot of leeway if you miss a deadline, even if it is for a good reason.
He is quite objective in his lectures. He is really knowledgable about the subject and very willing to answer all questions and help prepare for tests. Quizes can be tough - impossible to pass if you don't read all of the readings before class.
Great, great teacher. Openminded on a variety of religions and shows you how to find beauty in religions that you might not believe in your self. Not gonna lie: this is a hard class (as all good college courses are). But if you actually want to learn and feel spiritual in a religions class at the same time, this is it.
Reading the assignments is incredibly important. Everyday in class he starts with a 5 question quiz based of random facts in the reading. Skipping class will kill your grade, but the lectures are interesting so its worth going. Tests are a little hard.
Brother Properzi is one of the best professors I have had at BYU. World Religions as a class covers a lot of material which makes it difficult on its own, however, Properzi is clear with what he expects, insightful with the material and incredible helpful as a professor.
Professor Properzi is incredibly inspiring. I took this class because I needed a unique spin on religion classes, and this one was great. The subject material was fascinating, but Professor Properzi always added an extra level of insight and really helped me think deeply about my beliefs. Tests are fair and homework is one reading a day with a quiz
Most work I've ever had for a 2 credit religion course, it was a little ridiculous. I found lectures pretty dry and boring, but he is very knowledgable if this stuff interests you. If you are looking for an easy religion class steer clear. If you do take it, you will learn a lot.
He makes you read the textbook before class. Reading quizzes are a large portion of the grade. There are a few, kinda large assignments, but they're not too hard, mostly reflection. Lectures are always engaging and insightful. He opened my eyes to the world.
This class was absolutely amazing in terms of content learned, and Bro. Properzi is an excellent professor and has it organized in an excellent fashion. Beware, though: this class is not easy. There are multiple short papers and the reading is intense. But, if you're genuinely interested in the content, the course is an absolute joy!
Mauro is an awesome professor. He is very knowledgeable and gives great lectures. Be aware however that he intends for you to earn your A. If you take this class do the reading and know what you have read. That being said he has a great class.
Bro. Properzi is awesome, he keeps it interesting and really wants to get to know each student. As long as you go to class and do the readings it's not too difficult. He really cares about creating real experiences outside the textbook, so we were required to attend a worship service which was awesome. I'd recommend this class to anyone.
Bro Properzi was a fine teacher. The course material is really what kept me going in this class. If World Religions wasn't so interesting then I probably would have hated the class. There is TONS of reading. And the quizzes are hard and the exams are extremely hard. Would probably had a better time with a different teacher.
Relatively easy for a 300 level class. Loved the subject matter, but didn't love the teacher. Seemed impersonal and at times quite boring. There is a lot of reading required, but if religion interests you, I recommend taking this class. Tests and papers are fairly easy.
all the reading is for quizes, which make or break the grade, his lectures are completely different which makes up the tests... Lots of study, reading, and writing, with big assignments mixed in. Take it if you want the dual credit for global awareness, but it will be tough. I didn't feel very connected to the religions we studied
This class takes hard work. The tests are explicitly over the powerpoints, but you have to do reading out of the textbook for quizzes that are during the first five minutes of class, so don't be late! It's very interesting and he explained things pretty well.
Professor Properzi really helped me to appreciate other religions. He also cares about you as a student and knows you by name. Do all the readings, follow his study guides, and review for the quiz given every class. I didn't think I would end up with a good grade but the extra credit helped a lot.
The readings really aren't bad (max 10ish short pages per class period) and if you do the readings, go to class and actually study for exams, then you'll easily do well. His class is very structured, reasonable and predictable, which I appreciated. He is very sympathetic/respectful towards and knowledgeable of all of the religions he teaches about.
He is so intelligent! I could feel that he respected the other religions. You have to read the textbook because there is a daily quiz in class on the readings. There was an overwhelming amount of info in the readings. If you do the assignments, go to class, complete the assignments (really easy BTW), and study for the exams, you will get an A.
The course material was fascinating, and felt like a unique combination of philosophy, history and religion. He is super organized. The tests were difficult, but his extra credit opportunities made up for it. Difficult for a religion class, but worth it if it's interesting to you. Do the readings, and show up to class every day to get an A.
This is an interesting class and it fulfills a global awareness and religion credit, so it's worth it! It's hard because it's a lot of information you're not naturally familiar with, and there are quite a few papers and projects. Properzi is super cool and he relies a lot on student participation, which is part of the grade. An awesome class!
I loved this class and think everyone should take it. Properzi cares about his students and is available outside of class. You have to put in the work for a good grade but it is worth it. Quizzes and reading every day and papers due periodically. Properzi helps his students have an appreciation for all religions. Very interesting. I learned tons!
I absolutely loved this class. It is very eye opening about many parts of the world. He makes it so members of the church can see truth in every religion. It can be challenging because most of the information will be new. Missed points on daily quizzes will add up quickly, but if you study the chapter well before (about 10 pages) you'll be fine!
This was my favorite class this semester and Prof. Properzi was a big part of that! The class was engaging, interactive, and incredibly insightful. You can tell he is passionate about the subject and that makes you love it even more. There is a lot of reading, but it's definitely manageable. I highly recommend this class!
I freaking love Dr. Properzi! He is super down to earth and I appreciated his willingness to listen to students. He really cares about what students are getting out of his class and it shows. The workload was light especially for this class being 3 credit hours. I have no complaints with this class!
Brother Properzi is absolutely amazing. He has such a soft and tender spirit about him. He loves his students and knows a good balance of making the students work for the grade, but being understanding as well. Don't underestimate his abilities, he's incredible.
Professor Properzi is a great person. However, his class was the really lecture heavy and he doesn't help you prepare for the exams. The quizzes are timed, between 3-5 min, and it kills your grade if you aren't fast on your feet. I would not take his class again.
The subject matter is interesting but lectures can often be dull. The reading quizzes give you either a 3 minute of 5 minute time limit, which is a ridiculously short amount of time and is very frustrating. There are a lot of assignments, tests, and quizzes for a 2 credit religion class and the Professor and TA's aren't very understanding.
Quizzes are timed, 3-5 minutes for each quiz. He expects you to take notes on everything in class even the stuff on the slides. As far as tests go, the average is about a 78-82 which is just wrong for a religion class at BYU. I would recommend any other religion class over this one.
Dr. Properzi is a good person. Even though his lectures can be a bit dull at times, he truly cares about his students and is passionate about what he is teaching.
This class was way too difficult for a 2 credit class. Quizzes are timed 3-5 minutes which is absolutely ridiculous and he gave no help for tests and was completely complacent about having a high C average on the midterms. Would not recommend this class at all. Not worth it
This was by far one of the hardest classes I've taken at BYU which is really sad considering it is a 2 credit religion class. The TA's and Professor are not understanding and could care less about your grade even when you reach out ahead of time for help. There is a lot of reading that you have to know top to bottom for difficult 3-5 min quizzes
The class itself was fine, just be warned that reading quizzes are timed (3-5 minutes) and there's no study guide for the exams, so take really good notes and pay attention in lectures (even though they're a bit dull)
Professor Properzi isn't very entertaining--however, I can tell he cares about the subject and genuinely wants his students to succeed. I enjoyed the class itself but that might just be because the subject interests me rather than the way it was taught. My advice is to do all the extra credit and make sure to study the powerpoints.
I loved this class. I learned so many things about a topic that I didn't know well. Professor Properzi teaches very well and obviously loves the subjects he teaches. Don't get me wrong, it is a difficult class and you need to do the readings and pay attention, but that makes sense due to the high demand and unique subject matter of the class.
Reading quizzes are open note, but 3 minutes. THAT'S NOTHING. I honestly don't know how people do okay on them cause I can't even pay attention to the book it is so boring. The class has interesting content but can also be so boring. A lot of work surprisingly for a 3 credit class.
The most self-centered teacher I've ever had at BYU. Day 1 he says that he predicts 25-30% of the class would drop because he makes it seem hard. And it is. 12+ pages of reading 2x per week for a quiz that's 3 MINUTES LONG. And it's actually closed note. THE TESTS ARE SUPER CONFUSING AND SPECIFIC. I studied for 8 hrs for the midterm and got a C.
Attendance is MANDATORY, and he doesn't put it in until the end of the semester. Lectures are lengthy and dry. I'm sure he's a nice guy but I definitely didn't enjoy the class and wouldn't take it again, PLEASE find a different class for your religion credit.
Dr. Properzi is a great person, but his lectures got kind of boring sometimes, which made it hard to take notes in class and do well on tests. Attendance is required and you can only miss class twice before it starts really hurting your grade, so that's tough. The material of this class is interesting, I just wish the lectures were more engaging.
Professor Properzi is a really great person. What I loved the most was his ability to relate the things we learned in the Old Testament to our own lives. He just makes you want to be a better person and makes you feel like you can. Take a class from him.
Punishing attendance policy (5 absences and you automatically fail the class). Test questions are specifically designed to trip you up. I attended every class, took notes, & studied for 5 hours and barely got a B- on the midterm. For a 2 credit class, absolutely punishing. Lecture quite boring. Could be taught in a more interesting way.
Dr. Properzi is a very interesting teacher, but he is very strict about attendance, only allowing 2 absences for the whole semester. His tests are confusing and often phrased in a way that is unnecessarily tricky. He is very knowledgeable and I enjoyed learning about Christian history from him.
Great Professor, one of my favorites.
Dr. Properzi is so kind and has a super strong testimony that is inspiring! His knowledge of world religions offers such a great perspective that you don't often get at BYU. His tests can be a bit tricky but won't tank your grade. The religion department has certain requirements for all classes so you won't find an easy class, but his is great!
Properzi wasn't a terrible teacher but his lectures can be quite dull. He also has the worlds strictest attendance policy (only allowing two absences for the whole semester). He also take pride in making tests very hard. There is a quiz on each reading we do.
I got 90% on both of the exams and still somehow ended up with only a B+. That just tells you how unfair his grading is. He has the strictest attendance policy I have ever experienced at BYU. You can only miss TWICE, which is ridiculous. The reading is pointless and has absolutely nothing to do with the lectures or exams. Crazy 2 credit course.
If you want a class that gives you an easy A, don't take this class, but if you want to be spiritually and intellectually challenged this is the class for you. Brother Properzi is very passionate about teaching his students the world's different cultures and religions, which is reflected in his lectures, I would definitely take the class again.
Brother Properzi is very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject matter. He likes to keep to a schedule, but he's also very open to questions and class discussion, as long as it doesn't derail the lesson topic. I appreciated his lectures and course content, as it helped me understand many trends in greater Christianity.
Great teacher, hard class, you'll be fine.
Tests aren't easy and lectures are a bit bland, but he gives you everything you need in the slides. He really knows his stuff. Take good notes and study them before the tests and you'll be fine.
Little allowance of online notetaking. Long textbook readings with potentially easy to miss answers. Quizes on readings timed 5 mins, only 4 questions. Lectures were well formatted but were the only place for necessary info. Limited options for extra credit. Great teacher, but could get boring sometimes imo. Should have a decent time.
Lowest grade ever. He's a nice enough guy but your GPA will tank if you don't treat this as your most important class. Hardest attendance policy (can only miss 2 classes) and you need to memorize the slides if you want to do well on the tests. His favorite type of question is "which of the following statements is false" You've been warned lol.
If you're not gonna make this 2 credit class your top priority, it's gonna suck. The reading is redundant, the tests are overly difficult (80% avg), the attendance policy is strict for you to watch him read slides. Nothing about this class was fun/enlightening. Tests were just memorizing foreign words for specific religions, not worth it!
Tests are way too intense for a 2 credit religion. He's a smart guy, but he needs to realize his class is unforgiving. It kinda seems like he wants students to not do well. His attendance policy is super strict. He's a nice guy and has some cool assignments but the tests and attendance policy is cause enough to try for any other professor first.
Choose another professor. I think I'm a good student (dean's list, etc.), and I thought I would be fine when he said his class is hard. I was wrong. Anticipate 30 pages of reading and two hard quizzes a week (which others cheated on). Attendance strict, lectures boring. Average midterm/final was 80%. I've heard other professors are better/easier.
Brother Properzi is a great professor. He definitely knows what he is talking about. There's a lot of information, but if you listen and try to understand, you'll be fine. You can tell he is passionate about what he is teaching, and he wants you to succeed! He sometimes goes on long tangents, and it's easy to get lost in the sauce, but that's all.
You can really tell that Prof Properzi is really passionate about this class. That being said, I think the only way I got an A in this class was through divine intervention. Tests are purely memorization of random facts and the amount of work he assigns is kinda wild for a 2 credit class. I loved this class but I also love that it's over now.
