Mrs. Wrightson was awesome for the summer 5-week class. She didn't really worry about using up all the class time and she always had her presentations in powerpoint and she put them on Blackboard. I wish I could have her for 102.
She's organized and tells you what needs to be studied in order to pass her quizzes and tests. She provides the materials you need to pass her class, all you have to do is go onto blackboard. Down side..we had to do practice labs from a CDrom called thinking as a scientist..they can be easily forgotten and seemingly pointless.
She grades papers way too hard, considering she's not an english/writing professor. She's incredibly ANAL, and expects you to cite EVERY. SINGLE. Fact or statement you make in your paper. It's ridiculous. Nobody expects that. The most important thing is the lab practicals are extremely difficult, and they count for a third of your final grade.
From day 1 Wrightson was a hard ass. Although she was not a complete B**** she came in the fisrt day with a bad attitude saying she was hard and "if you dont like it leave now". Well, being optomistic and stupid i stayed. She made everything incomprehensible and more difficult then it needed to be. I would only recommend her to my worst enemy.
Tests are very very difficult even though they come from review guides she gives you and she isnt much help outside of class. Id recommend a different teacher and definitely DO NOT take during the summer! Very picky on grading too. Only thing that even keeps up your grades are your labs quizzes and worksheets good luck ha!
she really knows her stuff...
She is to the point on the first day. It is a hard class, but I really enjoyed her. You have the chance to ACE EVERY quiz but you do have to put a little extra effort in on the tests. ppl in class complained, but I loved her! If you are a visual learner shes the way to go!! shes good at posting class notes early too! good to get ahead! 9 outa 10
Her BIO class was the hardest college class I ever took--harder than any class I had in a 4 year institution. She requires LOTS of work--multiple projects, tons of lab reports, and so on--but you get a solid, quality education. If you want an easy grade, avoid. If you want to KNOW, or are going into BIO, go for it: she's the best you'll find.
SHe is a great teacher- Lots of assignments but it gives you a chance to make up grades if you dont do well on quizzes and tests. SHe has a good sensxe of humor and will help you out if you need it. I really reccommend her as a teacher
Class is mostly lecture on powerpoint there are a lot of quizzes straight from the book &labs 2 boost ur grade. There is a lot of work, 2 get good grades on the test read the chapters. Offers extra credit after ea. test. Offers all ppt's in advance to print off so you can listen during class. Final is a compilation of all 4 tests.
Awsome instructor! There is a bit more work than most classes but her lectures are incredible and she makes biology fun. I was not interested in science before her class and now I am majoring in it.
Excellent teacher! Very intelligent, knows her stuff way beyond what's in the textbook. Very fair grading. Lots of work but worth it if you really want to learn A&P. Had different teacher for 162 and regretted not having her again. Teaches from PPT overheads but adds to the information rather than just reading from it so not boring. Great labs.
hated this class- expects everyone to be a bio major absolutly ridiculous
Great great teacher! Without a doubt one of the best professors I have ever had. She is VERY knowledgeable. She knows her stuff inside and out (literally)! She has really inspired me to pursue biology. Terrific!
Enjoyable, knowledgeable and nice. Took as a summer session. Material was heavy, but do the work you get a good grade. Gives you study guides for tests, and lectures come straight from it. Lab was sometimes difficult, you also have Lab practicals. Got a B+, with tests as 1B, 3C, and A in lab and plenty of EC opportunities. You will learn A LOT!
Mix powerpoints with a professor with a dull teaching personality and you get a lecture that few could stand
Wonderful teacher! Very helpful, very nice, and very knowledgeable. There's a lot of work in her class, but its not overwhelming. I highly recommend her!
My absolute favorite teacher. Took 101, 102, & 256 with her & she is the reason I'm going into BIO. Prepares you for 4-year schools. She makes bio interesting & relevant & explains better than the book. If you like or want to go into bio TAKE WRIGHTSON. If not, choose an easier but less efficient/funny/intelligent professor who won't teach as much.
Fantastic teacher, not super easy, but really knows her stuff! Had her for 101 and knew she was hard but I really like her and knew that she was a great teacher and so I took her again for 102. She gives a good bit of work but if you actually apply yourself then it wouldn't be way too hard to make an A. I made a B in both 101 and 102 but I know I d
I took the course online, it's a lot of work, and you have to keep on top of your work. Ask questions, she'll help you. It was pretty tough, but I also took the five week course. It is definitely a lot of studying. If you can take a course where you can study a lot on your own, it's a good class for you.
I took BIO 101 online for the 8wk course as my last two lab courses for my science degree. This professor has ridiculous expectations for a 101 level course particularly online. Regardless of it being an 8wk course, she only allows 15min times quizzes. If you go over (blackboard does not automatically stop your quiz) the 15min she will give you a z
I ATTEMPTED to take her class. Being a pretty decent student who usually gets A's and B's, I was excited to have a new challenge, as her course work is more difficult than most professors. Her tests are RIDICULOUSLY hard and she requires a group project that she picks the groups for and a ridiculous movie paper. Way too demanding for a 102 level
Excellent teacher. 4 tests throughout the semester and mini quizzes from about all chapters which are found in the book (w/ answers). Also labs with 4 lab practicals (lab tests). She does give a lot of work but the repetition helps you learn A LOT. She is helpful so if you're not lazy, like biology, and planning on learning, take her!
I love her. Her class is a bit difficult but if you go to class and stay on top of the work you'll be good. All tests and quizzes are open book. She gives all the work ahead of time. Very organized and very sweet. Taking her class again next semester.
Took her lab.She is very bright. She is willing to help, but I hoped she'd explain the lesson behind the lab more.Very accessible.Willing to work with students with special circumstances up to a limit.Labs were long.Missing class can really set you back.Homework quizzes every week.Requires one lab report.Relaxed on attendance.Workbook necessary.
She loves bio, but her test are extremely hard. She does let you look at the books and notes but the material in the test has nothing do to with what we learned. She talks very fast so it's hard to write notes and listen. You can print power points ahead of time. The second part is the hardest part. If u want to stress or be a bio major take her!!
Took A&PI - Summer -class needs a warning label. Very intense mat'l. Professor is precise, articulate, interesting, helpfu, but the bottom line -the mat'l is difficult - let alone in a summer class. I would def. recommend her class, but know you will work hard and learn a lot of interesting mat'l. I would not recomend A&P in the summer.
One of the most interesting professors I have ever had the pleasure of taking a class with. She is insanely smart, punctual, and organized. Course material will kick your butt though. I have never had to work so hard in my life. DO NOT TAKE DURING SUMMER!!!
Excellent professor. If you come to class, PAY ATTENTION and study(uh, hello) this class is an easy A. The professor is very clear on material just read your syllabus and review sheets to guide you along and you should be fine! Most people who complain about their grades were the ones on their cell phones the whole semester...just sayin
First of all, she is very clear in what we learn in class. Test are all open book/notes and practical's may have a cheat sheet. She drops a lot of the grades. I loved learning from her and will defiantly take a class from her again. Highly recommended for someone who love bio. Print out the P.P's before class and take that to the tests you have.
I took Wrightson for 141 and do not regret it. Her test are split in two. Part A is taken online, and is timed. However, Part B is in class-open book. However, they aren't "easy" but do-able. I liked the way she did practicals. She does drop some grades to help your final grade out. If you want to be a nurse & are willing to work, you will do fine!
Excellent teacher, definitely would recommend really studying for her tests. IN Bio she has a quiz at the beginning of class for attendance. not hard if you read the chapter she assigned.
One of the best professors I've ever had while in college. Always on time, very helpful. Expects you to work for your grade. If you are serious about work, I recommend her to anyone taking A&P.
She is a great teacher. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you miss any labs or certain classwork, or practicals, you are unable to make them up, due to the fact of it being difficult to get everything set up all over again. Her tests are open notes, but they aren't super easy. Practicals are very difficult, you have to draw slide pics.
Hands down the best teacher I have ever had. I've taken her for 141 &142. She is not an easy teacher, but if you are a hard worker you will succeed. She is super organized. For tests they are split up into part a/b. Part A is taken online, and Part B is the in class section. If your a hard worker you will do fine.
This class is HARD. She expects everyone to be a bio major and to know everything. I am an A student and have never worked and studied so hard on her tests/practicals to get such low grades. Her averages on practicals are all failing grades. If you love to be stressed out or are going to be a bio major, go for it. Otherwise I would not take her.
Professor Wrightson is a great biology teacher. Even though this class was difficult, she really tries to help everyone. She even drops grades at the end of the semester to try to bump your grade up. Her class was very fun because we usually did labs most of the time and talked with our groups. I really liked her style of teaching.
Mrs. Wrightson is a great teacher. She knows what she is talking about. The labs were sometimes difficult but she always helped me. Also, I averaged a C on the practicals, yet I still received an A in the class. Do not stress the practicals. She drops the lowest. It is a lot of work, but it's not crazy hard. I took other classes and was okay.
Easy to approach, engaging lecture, always willing to help out and explain. There are 3 tests, 2 practicals, a paper and a project, the lowest grade of these got dropped. There is a LOT of work in this class. There is a group project and a cumulative final. All tests and the final are open book/note/paper. You are allowed a cheatsheet on practicals
Mrs. Wrightson has VERY high expectations for her students. Make sure you print out powerpoint slides to go along with presentations and do the review questions that go along with the chapters as you will be able to use them on tests which are open book and open note. However, don't expect them to be easy! ALOT of work! Test questions are not easy!
Have had MANY professors at 4 year institutions and she is by far the most organized and concise. She totally prepared me for nursing school! I wish I could clone her for my nursing classes. She clearly lays out what is expected and is always there to clarify. One of the most difficult classes I've had. Do all work and reading before class!!
Lenient, but is a fair teacher. She listens well, and provides good feedback to questions. She almost always knows what she's talking about. Pay attention to her notes because they help out a lot on tests. Study, study, study!! It pays off.
Show up to class, pay attention, take notes. Have fun with the lectures and labs. Definitely not afraid to make jokes. One of the best professors I've ever had. Don't expect to pass without any effort. She's a very patient and understanding person and knows that most of her students also have things going on outside of school.
She is a great teacher, lectures are long but helpful with tests. Her practical tests are most difficult so pay attention during lab time. She does not give extra credit so do not expect to make up points with it. Other than those she is helpful, she will explain anything you need.
She will not let you do any extra credit, even when you have been there everyday, and finished all assignments. Will not help you out on some extra credit, to help you pass. I tried really hard, and put alot into this class to end up with having my grade being a D.
As an aspiring bio major, I loved the class. Informative and passable if you apply yourself (the tests are open book, just be sure to take really thorough notes). Group project was among the better that I've done. I'd take her again in a heartbeat.
I enjoyed Mrs. Wrightson, she had a quirkiness about herself that made for amusing and entertaining lectures. Exams are open book, but questions are very detailed and you will not pass without studying. Trust me. Not the quickest grader, but very thorough and approachable.
She's pretty grand. She takes time to answer questions and explain concepts but still stays on track with class. Lab practicals are kind of annoying but you can get around them. She makes you work though, taking notes, doing projects, and lab related assignments. All of it's relevant and non of it is a waist for the learning material. Recommend.
I love this professor. I have never understood/been a fan of biology but she completely changed that! All tests are open notes. There are lab practicals, but she lets you bring in a cheat sheet. There are a LOT of projects, but she gives very clear criteria and enough time to complete. She is also SO funny and very informative. I loved this class!
Good.
She's really and Super nice! Really Helpful
Shes funny and her lectures are interesting. Do your homework and projects. Open paper tests.
Amazing professor. Really funny but also really knows what she's talking about. Tests are hard, but definitely passable if you take notes and study.
She is a really good teacher and helps you learn the material. She always comes in with a good attitude and actually wants to be in class. There a lot of grades in this class but the test are open notes (powerpoints online). The only thing that is a pain in the butt is the practicals but she lets you use a cheat sheet and gives out a review sheet
Great teacher she does great lectures and the lab assignments are very straightforward if you do your work its a easy class.
If you aren't very good at Biology I don't suggest you take this specific professor. A lot goes into it for a Biology 102 class. The professor did not seem very helpful. But she seems nice. Do not take it with this professor, you will struggle a lot. There's no extra credit given. Even with open notes during tests and the final, it's super hard.
If you struggle with biology do not take this teacher. She gives way too much work and is not helpful at all. The tests are ridiculous and her lectures are very boring.
I am in Mrs. Wrightson's general genetics class and love her! Shes knowledgeable, funny, and gives detailed feedback on all emails and questions you have. 10/10 would definitely recommend.
Do not take this professor for an online class. It starts off nice with a few lecture videos, but further into the semester she makes you sit through 7-10 lecture videos. Completing all of them takes forever. The tests are crazy hard, and she often writes patronizing comments on any short answer questions that you get wrong.
She is a really good professor. Her lectures are kind of long but she does make it funny. She has lecture notes and writes sub points on it. Few projects but honestly werent even hard. She is an excellent teacher. Open notes test but have to know how to take good notes and you will be fine. You fail the class by not showing up and doing the work.
Best Geology professor ever!
Wasnt happy with a lot of the grades, who still assigns group project. If you reach out for help she kind of tells you well tough and I cant help with that
Do not take this class online. I am an A student at Germanna and nearly failed. Tests are ridiculously hard and almost entirely short answer. She will give you hours of videos to watch for one test, and the content on the tests sometimes barely reflects that content.
The class is very work heavy. The lectures are also long, but professor Wrightson keeps it interesting. Even though attendance is not mandatory there are often exercises that are done in class that cannot be made up if you miss class. Overall she is very good at describing material and helping students.
Very unnecessarily rigidly structured class. You can go awhile with only a short quiz due here or there and then all of a sudden you have an exam, a practical exam and a huge 18-part project due all in the span of 2 days. She grades really tough, tests are unnecessarily difficult and trying to get all the work done on time is stressful.
Wrightson is kind and you can tell she cares about the subject alot, however her class does not translate to online very well. Expect to be overwelmed with many individual projects, weekly section quizzes, 2 1/2 hr+ labs, lab Quizzes and Tests. Claims class is a 0 memorization course, this is false. Study the course materials for days or fail.
There are many individual projects, weekly section quizzes, 2 1/2 hr+ labs, lab Quizzes and Tests. On top of that she gives unnecessarily difficult projects and her tests are timed badly. I would avoid this professor at all costs.
Does not help with Assignments, Quizzes & Tests. She would take the Quizzes & Tests from a Science site (NOT FROM THE BOOK WHERE YOU ARE REQUIRED TO STUDY FROM) and literally re-word and mix up the actual things you study for, making no sense at all and expect you to know everything as if you are a Geologist. Once you fail it she says "Oh Well"...
I had her for GOL105 and 106. I was going to leave an awful review about how hard the class was. But after taking her again I realized she's not that bad. She has clear instructions and due dates. The work load is VERY heavy, but again it wasn't too bad. I got a B and I'm the type of student to do everything last minute. I'd take her again.
I am taking her for ENV 299 which is a project class for ENV majors. She is a kind teacher and lets you make corrections on paper after the initial due dates. The papers are thought intensive and you will need to give yourself adequate time to complete the papers. She makes herself available for meetings.
I took Geology 105 and 106 with Professor Wrightson. Lots of lectures and assignments (2-3 hours of work every week). Professor is kind, fair, and gives good feedback. Everything is open book and notes; however, the material is challenging. My only criticism is that the unit tests/final and projects make up too much of the final grade.
So smart and wonderful!
Professor Garris is super kind and knows her geology. The class is the same thing almost every week including listening to lecture videos, a section quiz, a lab, a lab quiz and a discussion board post. You will be assigned a lab partner for all the labs. Not hard if you take notes while watching the lecture videos and study.
Very tough grader, very heavy coursework, however she is clear in expectations, provides feedback, and seems to truly care. Overall, a great professor.
F ME! the class is not that hard, but she does not understand what async class is. it means everything is done ASYNC nothing is Synchronous. so pleas fking explain to me why so many parts of this class are sync. she has a sync meeting offered on only two days that is required! F that! she needs to get a dictonary and look up the word asynchronous!
This class seemed fine at first. Watch the lectures, take notes, do the labs and take the quizzes. Material was interesting. However, the problem in this class is the tests. The lab tests are given a 30 minute timer to complete and an hour for unit tests. They are open note but you wont even have time to go over your answers. Avoid this class.
The material is very easy if you have ever taken an earth or environmental science before. All tests are open note. Most are timed (no less than one minute per question) but the lab quizzes could be taken as many times as needed. Put in the effort and you'll succeed. Prof Wrightson is also very understanding and cares about her students.
Take this course if you want to learn more about geology or if you intend to major in it. Expect to go through lengthy lecture segments. Homework takes two to six hours a week, including lab work.
This professor is tough on students, takes forever to grade, take forever to respond (if she response at all..) I was NOT a fan of this professor or her course and I would never recommend her to anyone looking into to or required to partake in a Geology class.
The workload for this class was ridiculous. Hours of lecture videos and notes every week. She says the tests are open book but open book doesn't really help when there are 200 pages of notes to go through. The labs are all super time-consuming and tedious. Expect to be spending hours every week on the labs and homework. Worst/hardest class.
generally, this teacher had assigned so many assignments throughout the course it was genuinely so hard to keep up with. i would work so hard on the assignments for the week and it would take multiple weeks to receive my grade. just a warning and the labs are soooo confusing. also idk i feel like the quizzes dont really prepare me for the tests
Understanding and will help if you ask. however will make your college life your only life with a major test, and major project due 3 days before the final.
I did NOT enjoy this class even though I am an earth science major and enjoy geology. Professor Wrightson has an extremely odd testing process. Our first lab test was well over 50 questions and timed at 30 minutes. When reaching out to her about this she had sympathy & all of her tests are like this. Will NOT be taking her classes again.
With how hands on this class was you could really tell the professor loves what she talked about and cares about your success. She has been the best instructor I have ever had in my life and I feel like so many other professors could learn so much from her. Best part? Basically never any homework.
Great professor for Geology, responds quickly during and after hours. Very helpful when you have a question about Labs and she wants you to succeed in her classes. Would definitely recommend and I would take her class again!
This is an extremely lecture heavy class with quizzes on the previous lesson at the beginning of every lecture. The information is thorough and quick, and the professor is organized with labs and tests. She is also very flexible when it comes to late work and make-ups.
