He has a passion for writing. Very encouraging teacher. He helped me to refine my writing. And yes, he is solicitating good students to write for the paper. It is not that hard to get an A if you do the assignments well. He wants you to do well.

He keeps talking about having spider senses and able to shoot spider webs out of his wrists and swing around on buildings and able to crawl on them.

The sweetest professor ever. Unlike lots of other professors, he cares about how you do in the class and is extremely helpful with helping you understand the material. He makes the class very interesting.

I love Max, he the best mentor. I taken all his classes passed with A's.. he works on trust bases. I disagree that he only cares about the paper, teaching is his passion. Great lectures, I learned alot from him. I often still quote him.

I have had Max for many classes. Though some people said he's anti-white, he's just teaching things usually overlooked. He is a playwright, an excellent journalism professor and a very intelligent man. His teaching leans way right but hey, he's a teacher

Hes a cool teacher. Very laid back, he just shows very old movies. Every now and then he will give a quiz or a test. Piece of cake really just read first chaper of the book and then turn it back in. Easy A But kinda boring class. Make sure u drink some coffee (2cups)

Max is awesome! He is like a father to everyone on campus and he does so much for his students. Take him...you'll learn a lot from him.

I sadly have to agree with the last comment. That is why college has many teachers so that people can receive the most variety possible. Max is who he is. The person who just posted sweeps away all the good that Max teaches his students, and singles out one little (althought true) chink in Maxes armor. Max has given us totally more good than bad.

Positives: Max is kind, and funny. He is dedicated to his students and it shows in the awards The Sun wins. I admit that I have learned a great deal from him. Negatives: Max needs to take the blind fold off when dealing with students responsibilities. He must realize that time is important, If students want to make it in Journalism.

This man is a true mentor, an advocate for honesty and student achievement. Writing for the SUN is an experience that can't be duplicated. You will gain real work experience and learn so much about the world, especially the academic world. It's impossible to get that kind of experience in a classroom. Max inspires greatness. Try him.

Relaxed and laid back. Homework assignments minimal and not that difficult. Most weeks a short lecture and a film. Usually out a little early. Don't buy the book! A great guy, very liberal and stuck in the '70's but hey why not? I would definately recommend him.

I needed the class, attended 90% of it, he was gone for about 2 months due to an injury, I failed!

He is very knowledgeable about EVERYTHING. He's hilarious too. He comes up with random funny things that just keep you laughing.

Great teacher, one of the best at swc. He knows everything about everything and treats you like a friend. Gives you lots of chances to do well. Grades easy, but if you do screw up he will give you a bad grade. Really stuck with me and helped me succeed. Great teacher, could not recommend anyone more.

Very easy class ! Theres only a few assignments in the whole semester which are not hard (Cultural experiences = Going to concerts and writing about them!) The only time I really used the text book was for two papers, but its need is minimal. Just do all the work and its a sure A !

Anyway...I would recommend Profe' Max because you will learn a LOT. I really looked forward to his class. He made me think about so many things I've never thought about before. He told us that educated people need frameworks in which to think. Thanks to him, I have started to build mine. I have also changed my major to journalism. Gracias Prof Max!

Mr. Branscomb is an amazing teacher and a great guy. He really cares about the students of this community. He is driven to helping us transfer to universities and does whatever he can to make sure we succeed. He expects alot out of you, but if you work hard for him he will work hard for you.

He's for serious journalist. He helped me achieve awards as an art reviewer, photographer and a sports writer. No other professor has helped me beef up my resume the way he has. Take the newsroom class if you want to get down and dirty with investigative reporting. I think he even allows fancy smanshcy blogging for "online" team. He will vouch.

I took Mr. Branscomb for the summer. He is a great teacher. I have learned a lot in only 5 weeks. attendence is a must. he was never late. he was ON TIME. class will start on time. didnt need a book. i enjoyed being part of mr. branscomb class, he kept me awake.!

Professor Max changed my life. I am about to start attending a great university on a large scholarship thanks to him. He is the hardest working man I have ever met and he cares deeply about his. He makes you work hard and expects a lot out of you, but if you put in the effort you will be rewarded.

I am really upset thqt the college cancelled our summer school class with Dr. Branscomb after only two days because he seemed cool and interesting. I thought Id fall asleep since it was an 8 a.m. class, but actually I left fired up and wanting to stay all day. A really great professor at a really stupid college.

This was a fun class, the teacher is soo funny he is nice and cares deeply for his students. The class is easy if u dont get an A its mostly because u missed classes. He makes it easy to learn. U have to write 2 essays which u can write in a group of 2 or 3, and a test that is open notes also. SUPER EASY!!

His class isn't really a class because he tries to make it more of a real journalism setting. So expect to only see him at the beginning of class and when you get your edits in. Your real "teachers" are your editors because you're constantly communicating with them about your works. Not too bad of an experience, but I do wish it was more organized.

Max is awesome! He is the hardest working man I've ever seen and a great professor. He teaches us how to be great journalists and also how to be champions. It has been such an honor to be a part of The Sun newspaper at SWC. It is amazing that we are the best newspaper in America and it is because Dr. Max pushes us to be our best.

He's amazing! Not only does he make the class interesting but he shares a great passion for his students and teaching altogether. You have a better chance of passing or enjoying the class if you participate in the class discussion.

I took Professor B this past spring when COVID hit and he was really accommodating with everyone and made the rest of the semester incredibly easy, considering we had to switch to online halfway through. The class was very lecture heavy, but almost everything we did was in groups and the projects were crazy easy. Really awesome and he cares a lot.

His class was very easy and graded by few things. His lectures are long,but by the way he talks he makes them VERY INTERESTING! and he covers a lot of information. This is a very easy class and if you show up and put attention you will learn a lot of things and get an easy A.

Max's an incredible prof. I've seen some have said his lectures are boring, I don't know if they were expecting to talk about Shane Dawson. He taught us about the importance of the press and its history. We never had to write papers or even speak. Most of us got an A+ just for showing up. Expect references to Star Wars and politics.

Let me put it like this, once, he told the entire class, "I'm going to fight for you like a dog, even if you're wrong, but try to be right." Many people who take this class end up in important newspapers.

He is not just one of the most caring professors, he's an amazing human being.

BEST. PROFESSOR. EVER! Dr. Max made the pandemic bearable. He is inspiring and understanding. He runs a national champion newspaper, but it is relaxed and fun, not stressful like other classes. We meed on zoom for every class, which is goos because we get to talk to him and the other students.

My mom is a teacher and she told me that the best teachers are the ones who make the class feel easy and have a knack for helping students remember what is important. That's Dr. Max in a nutshell. He is a great lecturer and a good storyteller. The lessons are often in the stories. He was my favorite college professor. He wants you to participate.

I love this class and actually wish it was longer. It is soooo interesting! Dr. Branscomb is cool and funny and he even played a song for us on his guitar today. I never knew journalism and mass com was so interesting. We studied lots of amazing things and Dr. Branscomb is a really good story teller who makes everything kind of come to life.

One thing I liked was that on the first day of class he said trans and lgbtq students are welcomed as so are all students of color. As a transgender person that meant alot.

He lets us do our tests and projects in teams and doesn't bombard you with tons of crap you will never use. I wish every teacher was this good!

Being on the campus newspaper was a great experience. It was the first time in my life I was on a championship team. Dr. Max made me feel like a champion, too. I was on the newspaper staff at Southwestern College, which is this year's National Champion. That's right! Southwestern College is the National Champion. The reason why is the Dr. Max brings out the best in his students. He is a super hard worker and a great coach. I learned so much from him and got into my dream university with his help.

So I kind of feel guilty. A few years when covid hit I took Dr. Branscomb online. I was going through a lot of bad stuff and was angry at the world. I gave him a hard time in the class and flamed him on RateMyProf after I was dropped for missing too many classes. I took him again and realized he is a great guy and a cool professor.
