Assignments take 15 minutes max and you get 2 weeks to do each one. You as a class make the syllabus. Very funny guy, I recommend taking Max Langen.
He is fun and very easy to deal with. He let me finish semester with an A almost 3 weeks earlier koz I had all previous assignmens done on time.
Finished with an A-. Max is the shiz! Gives you two weeks for every assignment. YOU make the syllabus. Someone suggested assignments counting as 84% of final grade, and well, they did. Take him, worth the drive to BBC.
The class picks their syllabus at the beginning of the class, so we choose our destiny, great! We can leave early if we finish our work and we dont have to show up unless we have an assignment or test.
Ok, YOU Make the syllabus as a class together on the first day, I STRONGLY Reccomend that you push for no exams because The class after mine had no exams and all got A's and B's while My class didn't and we had to take 3 tests weighted 40% and I failed 2 of them. To be honest they were really hard and we had never gone over that material.
Awesome, funny, and laid back. If you apply yourself and don't get frustrated you will do fine.
You as a class create the syallabus on the first day. We opted for no tests, finals or homework. The class is easy at first then assignments get really hard. Teacher is a nice guy but isn't very helpful since this class is a self taught class. If you need his help, you'll find yourself having to raise your hand the entire time to get his attention since he likes to go way off subject and waste time. And still may not get to you. Overall I got an A and only came on days the assignments were due.
Okay but class is hard
Great teacher, very sarcastic u can do all of his work at home and turn it in all at once he doesnt help much but if uve used a computer in the last century u should get an a because he grade only assignments and no test.
Class is so easy with this professor. He is helpful and allows a week in between assignments so if you finish one early you wouldn't have to show up till next week. Plus you make your own syllabus in the class. Its an easy A.
Took his class as a freshman, he's an awesome, laid back teacher but yet his teaching skills are very effective. He's very sarcastic but enough for you to understand the material. Its a hands-on class, you learn yourself he's there to help (this is a good thing when it comes to computers). you make your own syllabus. Take only 2/3 test- very easy.
Took Max Summer B. Pretty chill. He let's you make your syllabus on the first day. PUSH FOR 1 TEST IF THE NO TEST OPTION IS NOT AVAILABLE! Tests aren't that hard just confusing. assignments out of 10, tests out of 5. You don't have to show up everyday if you finish the assignment in the same day given. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HIM!!
AMAZING TEACHER! I took him this summer and he's so cool. You get to choose the class syllabus on the first day. My class chose three tests which was annoying but they weren't hard. When you finish the assignments you can leave the class and you only have to show up when you have things do but tis better to show up when he explains so you get it.
An amazing experience. He teaches with a very clear description and a humorous tone. We created the syllabus and most of the assignments were a decided upon or made up by the class. Loved it!
Great teacher, always interesting topics and useful knowledge. Fun class where you learn more than you'd expect. Loved it!
Best professor I've ever taken classes with. I wish I could take more with him. Makes a very boring class interesting.
He is funny man with a sharp sense of humor but he curses like a beast. Every line he said had a swearing word. I didn't like him at all, and he called us randomly to participate in a 1000 student class which is terrible for shy ppl like me and some who don't speak English too well. Assignments were long, tedious, and abundant. Expect to work hard.
He was very easy and nice. You create your syllabus together as a class. He helps and test are easy
I encourage everyone to take him. His class is very entertaining. You don't need a book & you pick how much each assignment is worth on the first day of class. He does randomly call on people to talk as his way of marking attendance but that shouldn't stop you, the assignments are commonsense, and just require an opinion which we all have.
Best professor I've ever had. He is so funny and will keep you entertained the whole class. The class discussions are super interesting and you learn a lot about ethics. Assignments are cake and there are no tests. There was a "presentation" that was just making a YouTube video and an 8 page paper to write but he is a very easy grader. TAKE HIM!!.
Funny. Sharp. Curses like a sailor--perfect personality for a Sat. computer ethics class. Class creates the syllabus together the 1st day. No exams/book, 3 short assignments, 1 YouTube video, an 8-pg research paper. Format is lecture/debate: he calls on students @random, takes pts when absent. 1 late assignment is accepted, up to the last day. A+++
One of the best professors in my entire educational career. The guy draws you in and makes you interested in things you didn't even know about. Perfect for a Saturday class, although at 8 am. I got a B+, maybe because I slacked off on the paper.
It's a philosophy class taught by an engineer with no formal training in philosophy. If you have even a passing interest in philosophy, the class is likely to offend you. And Langen's style is quite clearly manipulative and disinterested in academic integrity or the logical rigor necessary to produce valid philosophical thought. It's easy, though.
Sarcastic and Hilarious. Attendance is mandatory, because he calls on you randomly. If you're not there, he'll deduct points. 1 Essay, 1 YouTube video 1 Powerpoint (which could be the YT video) and a paragraph reflection. No classwork, just ethical discussions.
Max's class is straight forward and simple to follow. Subject matter discussed in class changes per class, and students are randomly called on to give an opinion. A term paper, and youtube presentation are the heaviest assignments required. Max makes an otherwise bland subject, interesting. Swearing is optional per class acceptance. Great class.
This professor is not easy. you need to be on time because he randomly calls your name to participate in class sometime 2 to 3 times and if you arrive late or you miss the class, he deduct one point each time he called you. You need to wirte a paper, do a youtube presentation. He doesn't explain clear and he makes you confuse.
Attendance is mandatory, but he is highly intelligent, witty, and hilarious! Definitely worth taking a class with. He makes class interesting and it's honestly not that bad. Take him.
One of the best professors at FIU. Very passionate, funny, and witty. His lectures are great; you won't fall asleep. He keeps the class fresh and interesting. Attendance is mandatory, but so worth it. He would be awesome to take an AP class with. Did I mention he's hilarious and a very good teacher? :D
Amazing teacher. The Data Analysis class he teaches is great. He tells you everything you need to pass the class the very first day. Attendance is NOT mandatory (great since it was in BBC) as long as you turn in the assignments on the due date. He can be very vague at times with the assignment, but nothing impossible.
If your grades are suffering & you need a boost just take this class with him, easy A, no joke. he is the best
This guy is the best! Class is a joke, TAKE HIM! Hell, it can be done over the summer in 6 weeks! He's funny, brings a fresh lecture to class every morning, and keeps the class paying attention. Attendance and participation is mandatory, but he makes you WANT to participate. Fun Fact: He speaks multiple languages, including German and Portuguese.
Max really knows how to make waking up really early on Saturday not such a bad idea. Follow his rubric religiously to any assignments he posts, and you will walk away no less than an A, baring that your participation grade is good. Overall, the course was a cakewalk, but do not over think his rubric, and Saturday mornings will actually be fun.
Taking Prof Max was indeed a great decision. His lectures were light and he made the material easy to understand. Attending class is essential but you'll want to show up. A lot of the work is easy and as long as you do it you'll get an A. Either 3-4 tests and weekly assignments. 98% Excel, maybe some Access. Great professor, take him, trust.
Max says he isn't a professor, yet his teaching method is outstanding and oriented to entertaining and engaging younger minds. It's fun to go to class indeed.
This has to be one of the easiest courses I've ever taken at FIU,all you need to do is literally show up to class and participate in discussions. The guy is hilarious, he would be cracking jokes all the time and making people laugh to make the subject fun. Grading is based on attendance(you'll get ramdoly called), a YouTube presentatio, and a paper.
Max is honestly the greatest professor I've taken thus far at FIU. His lectures are extremely engaging and drop-dead hilarious. He is the FUNNIEST. As for the difficulty of the class, just show up and you'll pass - grading is taken from one 8-page paper, an 8-minute video presentation, and class participation (randomly selected to speak in class).
I loved this class! Professor Langen is arguably the funniest person in the world. His class taught me practically everything I will ever need to know about Excel. The course consisted of three tests and several assignments. Each assignment was given on a Tuesday and due on the Thursday of the following week. No homework at all. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Professor Max is a insanely good professor. Excel is not an easy program to use but Max's teaching methods make it a lot easier. He is hilarious also. Show up to class, get your assignments done and then take your tests which are all similar to the in class assignments. This will get you an A. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Prof. Max is hilarious. Super easy A if you are moderately good at MS Excel.
Max is probably the best professor I've ever had. His style of teaching is effective and I was able to learn Excel in just a few days.
Max was a great teacher to have. Its is an excel class where you learn how to familiarize yourself with the software, however it is not as easy as it sounds. The biggest reason I recommend this class is how practical the content is. It is really business based and it will really help you out later in life. Work must be done in class
he goes above and beyond. he is realistic and very understanding !
Overall great professor. Very well spoken and keeps the class entertaining. Will single you out from time to time and give credit based on participation. Simple enough class. Most difficult part is a video discussing an ethical subject and an 8 page paper on a subject of your choosing. Would definitely recommend.
Most likely the best professor I've ever taken in my student career. Very well educated and knowledgeable of overall materials that he applied in class example for the real world. Made the material very useful for real world environments. Show up to class, participate and you'll pass.
Prof Langen is a very good professor! His classes is just discussions about random topics that are hilarious. Make sure that you follow the instructions with the assignments, go to class and do the HW. Easy A, with an incredible professor!
Max is an excellent professor. His assignments are relatively easy once you've learned how to do what is asked. Ask questions, he'll help you! You only have to go to class when you have an assignment due (you'll get them done fast), but you won't want to miss class because he's a joy to be around and he's so funny!
He gives you the class assignments in a way that allows you to learn on your own. Which is great because Excel is a program many business majors will have to use. Very funny, short lectures, easy grader. As long as you complete the assignment you should get 100 on everything. 3 exams, only two are required. Very easy, all done on the computer.
Prof Langen is a true gem, took him for a summer term and he worked incredibly well. His exams are straight forward. Although he doesnt grade attendance, its essentially needed to understand the material; however, the class is engaging and humorous. Overall, great professor, easy class if you try, and definitely would take this class again
Horrible experience
Professor Langen is a great professor who cares for his students. He responds pretty quickly. He assigns a few discussions, a YouTube presentation, and a term paper. Very easy class. You should get an A with no struggles.
Professor Langen does his best to make this course as low-stress as possible. This was great for me bc my other two courses this term were very demanding. You do have a YouTube presentation and a paper, but these are also low-stress and he walks you through what needs to be done. With as little as he expects, I actually learned a great deal.
This professor is a real gem. His classes are among the most interesting and engaging ones I've ever taken. I took the class Saturday in the morning and thought it would feel bad doing that during 4 months, but the classes were so fun that the semester was over before I realized. Recommend 100%.
Super chill. Only reason I can think people rated him down was because theyre lazy. The workload isnt bad at all. At least for my class because he lets us choose the syllabus and we got 1 assignment per week. Dont stress if you plan on taking him. And if you are taking this, you got this :)
I highly recommend Professor Langen! The mini term class was overall easy and beneficial with the help/examples from the teacher.
Whoever said, With as little as he expects, I actually learned a great deal, was on point. Extremely easy and stress-free course, but dont take it for granted. You will learn SO much if you actually try to learn something in this course. My major is CS, but Langens computer ethics course changed my life. Would absolutely recommend Langen.
Very Good professor.
I took this class my first semester at FIU, Max is great and very funny just don't speak during his lectures. Attendance is also not mandatory.
Hes a funny professor and a character! His class was not hard at all but I went into the class not knowing excel at all, so it was a little more difficult for me.I did learn but I felt that in the assignments were just getting a grade. I did learn a few things about excel but I don't think I can say that I know it enough.
Attendance is not mandatory but his class can be difficult if you are not comfortable with excel. He gives the assignments and expects you to know how to do everything. He can be a fair grader sometimes but he can give you a hard time giving you the A.
Max has to be one of my favorite professors of all time. This man not only teaches well, but is very patient with his students and has a very easy grading criteria. I would 100% take this class again and his humor is unbeatable. The course itself wasn't too hard and overall, I would recommend Max to anybody that has to take CGS 2100. W professor.
Max is a funny, respectable teacher. His assignments can prove to be pretty difficult if you are not familiar with excel, but he provides more than enough time to ask him questions and get help with the assignment. He is a very patient person and makes a fairly boring program seem fun. He assigns 1 assignment a week that can be completed quickly.
Though I like this professor as a person, he was not the best teacher. He gave us the tools to figure out excel, but never truly explained to us how to use it. The last assignment in class, he even said to his students that he would not explain how to do it. We'd just have to struggle and figure it out. He's a great guy, but doesn't actually teach.
Professor Langen was great, his class did not have mandatory attendance but if you needed help he was always there. There were no tests for this class and only had 1 weekly assignment that he would help greatly with, kind of a tough grader but the class is easy so it doesn't really matter.
SO EASY! Take him if you need a CGS class/credit. The assignments were so easy it's insane. He doesn't ask for much.
Easy class, you only have 1 assignment per week, no quizzes, tests or finals. There were 2 classes per week, but you only have to show him the assignment complete, so you can go to one class and show him the assignment. Teacher is really chill and nice, the assignments are really easy, even easier if you have some experience with Excel.
SUPER EASY CLASS!! also very funny. Very accessible outside of class and helped answer any questions I had. Super easy assignments and if you get them done before they are due you will pass with a high A
Max was amazing to have as a freshman. He made the energy in the room so welcoming. He's an amazing professor and lets you learn from others. If you came to class on Mon and finished your assignment, you wouldn't have to come back that second class. He doesn't give homework out and there's one grade per week.
took him summer b 2023. only 1 assignment per week and if u finished it on Monday, you wouldn't have to come to class on wednesday. everything is done on excel but he makes it easy to understand. he isn't quite clear on what he wants on the spreadsheets (sometimes) but other than that he's good. 10/10
Super easy. The professor is so funny and makes class entertaining. This is a required class for comp sci majors and he makes your life so easy. Do yourself a favor and take him. No exams
Mr. Langen was an amazing professor. His instructions were always clear, and he was very funny in his writeups. The only thing that mattered was the format of the assignments. There was only one assignment per week, and they were never hard. He was a pleasant professor with a great personality. I would definitely take again.
Extremely easy class. One assignment per week and prof gives step-by-steps on exactly how to do them. Use those instructions as a strict guideline or you may lose points. Basically impossible to fail or get anything below an A. He's super easy to contact and responds within a decent timeframe. No exams or quizzes. I strongly recommend this prof!!
This was my favorite class. 1 assignment due every second Wednesday, creative and fun assignments, and no final. The work can get complicated, but he is generally good at explaining. Don't cheat, he will automatically fail you. I learned a lot about Excel from this class, 10/10 professor, would definitely take again.
One of my favorite classes that I've ever taken. He's hella funny, and pretty chill with grading. This did not feel like a class, rather a engaging 1-hour long conversation.
We have one assignment a week if you finish it, you can skip the next class. The assignments gets difficult towards the end so you might need both. You learn Excel independently but you can work on it with your classmates if they know how to use it. The assignment have a step by step so you will be fine. Overall it's easy, no hw and no final.
Do yourself a favor and take this class. The entirety of class time was spent discussing ethics topics. The assignments: a paper, a video presentation (showing your face is optional), and creating a printout of powerpoint slides. Easy assignments, no exams. This course taught me a great deal, and it is by far my favorite. Hilarious class, he cares!
We used Excel throughout the whole course. The assignments can be difficult, but if you have people who know what they are doing, you'll be good. He believes that he should not teach, but we should teach each other. Ask questions and collaborate with peers; that's what makes the class fun and easy.
Very Nice excel class. The professor is very cool and we had one assignment per week, and the attendence is taken by that. If you finish your work monday you don't need to come on wednesday for example.
Max is honestly an amazing professor. Attendance is not mandatory, but to understand the assignments I highly suggest coming to class in order to not fall behind. He gave 4 tests throughout the semester and no final or midterm. I would def have him as a professor again.
Great guy. he doesn't really teach how to do assignments but it's super easy to figure out !
Max is a great person but an awful professor, did not teach the whole semester. His assignments are all over the place and hard to understand. Do not skip his class, you will fall behind and it's hard to catch up.
really easy class, especially if you are good with technology. some people struggled but you are able to get help from the rest of the class and it is not hard to get an A as long as you show up and talk to people.
His lectures alone were enough to get me to want to go to class. He doesn't read off slides but rather bounces around topics written on the board and has genuine conversations with the entire class. He calls on people randomly and asks for their input. He often uses strong language in the class but has a sense of humor. Best professor I've had tho.
He is the best! His classes are hilarious, interactive, and really force you to think. No exams or quizzes, it's entirely class-based and I've never had so much fun. I actually look forward to going, it's literally the highlight of my day, sometimes I hope the class lasts longer. The type of professor that changes lives. Best class I've ever taken!
Really weird guy. You basically just show up to class and talk about random stuff for an hour. There are a couple assignments like a paper but he doesn't want to give them so you just gotta do the bare minimum and you'll be fine. No regrets, he's basically the best option for this class. He will tell you this class is important, it is not.
Best class I have taken thus far! I loved going into each session not knowing what topics we would cover that day. If you value nuance and want to learn about how to grasp different perspectives in the real world, this is the class for you. Only 6 assignments, most of which are turned in by paper. He calls people randomly, so attendance is a must.
Great professor, very funny, assignments are very easy. Only reason I didn't get an A is cus I didn't read his rubric, if you read the rubrics and follow his guidelines, you can do the bare minimum and pass with an A.
One of the best professors I've ever had at FIU. He's genuinely funny, and the class is extremely easy. Attendance is mandatory. You get one free late; after that, every missed name call is two percent taken off your grade.
