A very nice funny guy, but horrible at teaching. It's a hard class with a hard teacher who doesn't know how to teach. I liked him a lot as a person, not a teacher.
Don't take him. He is the worst professor I have ever had.
A GREAT Professor. I truly learned a lot! There a Few STUPID ASS in our calss who can't even count one through ten, so DO NOT believe what you read. Take his class if you want to learn. He is the BEST Professor!!
Very nice person, but not clear when teaching. Definitely knows his stuff, but unfortunately for me, doesn't know how to relay the material.
Amazing professor, made calculs easy! Unlike other professors you can actually understand him and he goes slow.
He's a very nice guy who jokes around once in a while. HE has a great personality.Overall,he makes mathematicla concepts fairly easy. His exams are not bad but u have 2 study. Definitely take him if you want to learn.
This professor is really nice, really cool, very helpful, and easy going....buttt his tets KILLLED me...the whole class complained after every exam and the test avg for the class werent higher than a 70...but he does teach well and if ur ready for the challenge, take him, hes great for that..if u suck at calculus, take someone else
Well I took the class, and his tests are really hard. You understand everything in class because he's a really good professor, in that he teaches well. But honestly, the tests are FROM NOWHERE. So HARD SO HARD. I dont understand it... because I used to be good at math.. lol but he ruined my GPA so he can SUCK iT.
I don't know how this people can say this is a good professor. He sucks big time. He has an awful chinese accent. And His exams are not only hard; but duple, triple harder than that. Do not take him if you want your GPA to look good. Yes he explains really good but his exams are so hard that you wonder if they are chinese scripts.
Just verbally dictated the lesson, exams were nothing like the homework
just verbally dictates everything, instead of working problems out on the board. Exams are impossible, nothing like the homework.
He's an ok professor. Nice guy but tests are nothing like what he teaches in class. You have to do hw on your own and maybe you'll have a chance. Take someone else
i thought his tests were easy...and i failed this class once already so i'm not a math genius. he goes thru the material too fast and doesn't really allow enough time for questions. but he does know what he is talking about and tries to relate it to you any way he can
Nice guy, but bad to take for this class! Was passing the class but failed the final exam.
So far I LOVE Prof Lee. He explains material step by step by step with common sense and clarity (yes-rapidly though). Willing to stay after class and help, relates material to "real world". I have No math IQ - Prof Lee is my only hope. It would, however be scrumptious if select HW problems were reviewed in class. He has NO bad accent at all - FOOL
I was very nervous before taking Pre-Cal. But Prof. Lee made it all so clear. He is fast throughout but then he puts everything systematically on the board. He also stays after class for difficulties and answers questions via email. I wish he was teaching Applied Calculus because he is so easy to understand. Thank you Professor.
I was so scared to take this Calculus course, I though it would be very difficult, but Prof. Lee made it easy and understanding. He goes at a fast speed but goes back if needed. Don't recommend to miss a class, too much material covered. He has no accents and is easy to understand him. He even offered an extra review before the final on a sunday.
He WAS VERY HELPFUL. Take him, he explains the materials clearly but it is a fast paced subject. You need to do your H.W everyday or else you won't stand a chance.
Max is actually really a fun prof. He knows his math and will travel great distances to help you understand the stuff. His tests can be difficult. You have to put in the work and he will help you so much. We even had a review before the final. The book sucks but he can't do much about it; Math dept. wrote it and it SUCKS! Good luck with the book.
He really means well but at the end of the day you want to learn the material and not hear funny little stories. Especially if you get to the final and realize that your professor didn't teach half of the material on it. Very nice guy but I've had him for algebra and pre-cal and each time he screws me. DON'T TAKE HIM! Your GPA will suffer 4 it.
I took this prof spring 2007 and i had to drop this class. He's a very bad professor who does not care about his students in how they do. The class avg was 53 and don't really care if you pass or fail as long as he gets to finish the material. DO NOT take him.
Great! Cool prof.! But you have to work out the homework problems so he would help you. If you're imature, do not take this course - you would not survive!
Prof. Lee is a good in explaning what he's teaching, but his exam's does not reflect anything that we've learnt.. he doesn't go over homework questions, and had smart comments when students ask question... for a subject like math, he should at least answer the questions.. math is a subject a lot of students have problems with, especially calculus..
Not helpful at all, always respond with a smart answer...would not recomend taking any of his class.
Worst professor ever
Don't reccomend taking him at all!
This Guy knows the stuff. Students in this school just don't work hard for their grade. He is clear and helpful (and will even dedicate from his own personal time for your success). Good guy, with good intentions. Better disregard previous comments - it's all about the student. Took him for MTH1030 and he saved me and my classmates from failing.
Makes it simple to learn, like other student said, saved class from failing. But dont count on that. He looks frustrated with students messing up and will not be as nice in the future. One important thing to mention... his test question are very more ambigious than the depart final, so you really have to know each question w/your eyes closed
He is hard, the only reason why you guys think he's not is because you haven't taken calculus with him, then I assure you, you would not like him then.
Would never take him again!
I agree, once you take calculus with this guy, you would want to quit school. Maybe he's not so bad teaching other lower level math class, but he's just not a good calculus professor.
A good professor. Keep in mind, MTH2207 is not an easy subject and the Final Exam IS departmental. He explains all the logic that leads into the calc part. Replaces lowest test grade w/ final grade. HW isn't mandatory but you should do them. I never took pre-cal or calc before but ended up with an A. You just have to put in the effort.
Very very helpful. Willing to spend tons of his own time with you if you need it. Very approachable and nice person. Math is not easy for me and i credit him in part for sustaining my interest in it and not giving up. Good atmosphere in the class, relaxed but not sloppy. Wish i could take him for my MTH2003.
Extremely helpful. Not the clearest explanations but it's compensated: take him if you are not sure about your math abilities, you can always ask him for additional help. I particularly liked his method of laying out the material on the board--very clear and systematic. Friendly and cool guy.
Great teacher. Organized, clear, and so Hot.
Course materials are hard - beyond expectations - plus ridicules WebWork Assignments - wasting so much valuable time. To get a good grade, you really need to do the homework plus more.
I'm sure all previous comments were made by him. This is the truth: 2207 is not so difficult, but it is gets very difficult with Max Lee. Be sure that u will get the lowest grade ever if you don't spend time with a math tutor. His explanations are very long and confusing. He loves to cover all the black boards with everything he says. AVOID
This is what you do with this guy: he spends half of the semester explaining what the line and slope is and doing matrices. Later he starts covering 3 or 4 sections in one class leaving integration for the last class! He is master in explaining easy things in very difficult way and he wonders why his personal life failed! LOSER
He obviously really knows his stuff but there's definitely a communication problem. When trying to explain things he overcomplicates it making it more confusing than it needs to be.He will absolutely not work with you on your grade or attendance.Take a different teacher who actually cares whether you learn the material or not. Smart man,bad teacher.
Stay away. Overcomplicates things. Take someone who will help you pass the final. You will need math tutors to pass his class. Very confusing teacher.
save yourself a headache... class average for the last 2 tests was a 60 and a 52... I think that speaks for itself
Don't want to sound politically incorrect but prof. Lee is a typical Math teacher; the way he talks, the way he thinks, the way he looks and dresses says right away: ?Hello, I'm a Math teacher.? It's not necessary a bad thing. Besides he takes pride in it which is great. Classes are fast pace and not very exciting, well it is Math...
Prof. Lee's time would be better used if he change his teaching methods/style and work at his craft instead of coming on this website adding false positive comments about himself.
After all Max seemed to be a nice guy. he offered review on Sunday before final and even on the final he almost let us use the calculator for the non-calculator part( we couldn't though because of the older guy present at the exam, who successfully deconcentrated me and at least half the people around me) previous reviews are very extreme.if you k
Max's teaching is clear, concise, and humorous. The grad-level Applied Calculus class relies heavily on the use of the TI-83 calculator, allowing students to cover more ground in a shorter period of time to great effect. This was my first experience with Calculus and I am glad to have taken the course.
He should simplify his teaching style. He made something easy sound difficult and went at a pretty fast pace
He has very negative attitude toward students. He should not be a teacher in the first place. He is confusing and not organized. Dear students avoid him in any cost.
Good professor. Always organized and prepared to teach class. He has his own sense of humor but you will def laugh. Homework is NOT mandatory. 3 tests and department final. Does review before ALL test and final. Tip: do the homework, the test tend to be based on them. TAKE HIM!!
His lectures are very well organized, he highlights the important stuff and proceed very gradually through the topic. He makes funny jokes and time spent in his class isn't boring. You gotta do work of course. He doesn't sound like a compromise guy, so don't rely on exclusions. I cant tell about his grading system, cause semester just begun..
First of all: MATH is MATH! But Max makes it fun and clear. He will try to frighten you with horror stories ab. exam as well as his UNleniency (which is ALL true; yes final isn't easy and Max isn't a compromise guy) some of will drop the course, but those who stay will find it not so terribly impossible to pass. Pr. Lee is helpful & organized
Max is the man!! If you have a sense of humor then you will find him funny. His humor might be a lil dark sometimes but dont take it personally he mainly wants his students to know that math isnt and if you take it lightly you might regret that...Overall Max is a great teacher and not to mention SUPER helpful!!!!
Math is only easy for Math wiz! However Max tries to help as much as possible. He always stops after every new topic and asks Does everyone understand? and wait for an answer. If you don't get it he will explain it to you again plus his analogies are funny, weird a little but funny.
If you are a lazy person like me or a procrastinator then you will find out thats not a wise attitude in this class I had to learn the hard way. It wasnt until I was studying for the final, which by the way isnt writing by him but by the department, that I realized that his tests were based on H/W. So do them, and I mean all of them and u'll b set!
Don?t want to say that he?s a terrible professor but he?s not very good. He knows the material very well but he is not an effective professor in the sense that he doesn?t convey the material in a sense that is understandable. He?s nice, just not very good at teaching. You?re better off with a diff professor.
He is a friendly guy but he cant teach...He isn't the worse professor, but take someone else if you can.
Stay away from him!!! He is terrible. Do not know how to teach. Can't speak English. Rude. The worst teacher at Baruch!!!!
Good man, but he can't teach. STAY AWAY FROM HIM!!! Class avg. is nothing better than D. Marks exams like he is fighting his wife. Math is my favorite subject, and he crushed my love for math like I just got disowned by my mother. I got 33 in his exam and trust me when I say it, everyone was in that ballpark. you'll get D,F,W or C good luck!
Great guy and well above average professor. Calculus is not an easy subject and for those who say it is will not be prepared for the final. He expects work out of his students like any good professor would. Take him if you can handle a workload and want to be prepared for the department final.
I did great on his exams. He is a great professor. Yet did not prepare us for the final at all. He went over logarithms the 2nd to last day of class. Almost 60% of the freaking dept final was logarithms, which the damn book doesn't cover well. What a waste. I was hovering around an A-, got a freaking B-, only B I got... skip him
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR! he goes through problems so fast that by the time you finish copying the 1st one hes already on the 3rd problem therefore having to learn all the material on your own because its so hard to keep up with him. sometimes he can be really sarcastic and rude to students and some days hes in a good mood. Just take another prof!!!!
bad ! cant teach
for a summer class he was able to cover all the material and prepare you well for the test.very hard material but with effort you do well
never take his class.
avoid this professor at all costs. incredibly hard tests. doesn't prepare you for final. rude personality. for your own sake do not take him
you will pass his class only if you doing you own job, which is homework. And you should prepare well for the tests not only from the materials he covers, but also the quiz he gives to you.
Prof. Lee is a great math instructor, u'll get used to his accent after 2 classes, i promise) Explains through examples at a good pace, always makes sure everyone is understanding the material. He'll give the hardest examples during class, and then the tests are a drop easier. gives E.C. on exams! don't bother taking if u don't do HW. CALC is hard!
Max lee is an amazing professor I've never had someone who truly wants to give you all the tools you will need to make it. He was that for me and the class.
Max Lee is a wonderful professor who is capable of teaching Calculus but at the same time "challenges" you to the point where you may deem pointless. Lectures are very thorough and explained if you are able to grasp the concept and follow along. Tests are nightmare for class since it's never easy. Be sure to keep on your foot if you take him.
what is the point of teaching if your aim is to fail the students. three 60 mins in class difficult exams and a final. if you take his class, do not take any other class because he will make your semester a nightmare!!!
STAY AWAY FROM HIM. TOUGH HRADER. SKIP CLASS YOU WAN'T PASS . TESTS ARE TOUGH. JUST AVOID HIM FOR SURE.
Max is not a bad person but seriously listen to the reviews here and take another class if you can. The material is not easy and his tests are hard. He will make you work really hard, and that may get you to pass the final but you will still end up with a mediocre grade( D/C-). Honestly, save yourself the heartache and save your GPA.
Max Lee is a great professor. IF YOU DON'T STUDY AND DO EXTRA WORK(my Lab math and book exercise) YOU WILL FALL the class OR END UP WITH A VERY BAD GRADE. Max will give everything you need to know.
Calculus itself is a hard course and you won't pass if you don't put enough time studying it. He is a great teacher to take since he shows you step to step process and gives you good feedback. His test is somewhat hard, but you'll get good grade if you understand his lecture. If you compare his to other MTH professors, his class is an easy A class
I am now at baruch but I took him at westchester community college. TERRIBLE! He failed everyone except one person with a C+(that doesn't transfer) I graduated with a 3.78 I AM A SMART STUDENT! Retook the class& received an A He would put things on the tests that he didn't teach When we went to the head he blamed us & gave us a hs level math test.
Max is a very knowledgeable professor who gives you more than all the tools necessary to get a perfect score on every test. His lectures are always informative. Gives you an incredible amount of reference points and practice problems. He shows how to use the calculator in depth. Tests are hard if you dont study, especially the final. Try yourbest
Max is a good professor. Show up to class, pay attention, and ask questions if you don't understand. It doesn't get much easier than that. Be prepared for dad jokes
Max is a great professor but the course itself is difficult and he says the first day of class that you should prepare for 12-16 hours of work per week at home that is needed to pass, and he was right. If you put in the effort you will get a good grade but still a hard class.
I've dropped the class twice and failed it once before taking it with Prof. Lee. At this point, I didn't care for a good grade, as long as I could pass. His assignments and exams were extremely difficult, but they will really help you understand each concept needed for the final! If you're just looking to pass to get into Zicklin, TAKE HIM!
Baruch has some awful professors, but this guy hands down takes the trophy for WORST professor. Calculus is difficult to begin with & he easily makes it more complicated. Doesnt provide reviews before exams or what to study for, simply says check the course information guide. Huge waste of time & money, AVOID
Wow... don't take... don't bake. Stay cool and take someone who doesn't make you sweat just to find out if your beads make a continuous function.
Guy is miserable and takes it out on students. Makes me wonder about the requirements of a professor. Talks about his home life more than actual math. Avoid!
He is not a great teacher and I had to teach myself everything. He didn't even finish the course syllabus and gave us so much work. He doesn't grade your exams paper on time. He graded all our papers on the last day of when the final grade was posted. The only reason I got A was because I have learned the entire course syllabus in high school.
Took it while social distancing. He will make you pay for expensive math book even if it is free online. He is using WebAssign, which means pay to submit homework. Save ur money, dont take this professor.
Honestly just terrible. The worst prof, he does not know how to teach for sh**, made times like Covid even harder. Does NOT know how to upload grades, and for some reason thinks scores do Not matter... so waits months before giving us our grades. gives you 60 min to complete 25 calc questions which are almost impossible in that short amount of time
Will ruin your GPA. Calc is a hard enough class and he does not make it harder. Does not explain where you went wrong on exams. Takes 5 years to return work. Makes you grade your own quizzes. No extra credit. No partial credit. Tests are timed unfairly. Speeds through material and expects you to be confident. Hardest math class in Baruch.
Ive never written a ratemyprof for anyone but holy smokes this dude is the worst. Goes on blabbering about ethics and knowledge and stays on one problem the entire lecture. His tests say what units will be covered and come the day of the exam, not a single one of those units are in the exam. And no disrespect to his accent but Calc is hard enough.
Wow, Calc is not easy and with Max Lee, it'll be nearly impossible won't shut up about how knowledge is more important than grades like if any of us are taking this class for "the love of math". And by the way, the "most helpful rating" on this page is most probably him. That's exactly how he talks in his class so its probably him. SMH
If he's your only option for the particular class you're taking, I suggest waiting on the next semester so that you have better options. Honestly, a used tissue rag is a better professor than he is.
Just horrible. do not take!!!!! He aims to fail you, no second chances. Learning calculus online is already difficult this guy makes it 100x more. He will teach the most simplest form of problems then give the most difficult questions on the test. Homework will take days (20 - 30 questions each). Please save your money and take another class.
The worst professor of all time. no exaggeration.
RUN. This professor is super toxic, always complaining if no one answers, has yelled a couple times in class as well. The problems he gives during class does not match the homework or exams. Just save your money look elsewhere cause this professor is not worth the time
Do not take any class with this professor! Will take 180 minutes to explain 1 problem & then expects you to do 4+ on a 60 minute test. Never answers emails, does not explain things in an easy way, and does not grade anything himself. I have never had a tough time with any math class until having him. Learned more from youtube than him.
Whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He is the worst professor in Baruch. Take math another semester, just don't take this professor. You will do the biggest mistake of your life.
The horrible Prof..
if you take this professor you make the biggest mistake of your life!
I advice students who have enrolled in his class to drop the class already before the semester begins.. save yourself!
Professor Lee is one of the most arrogant people I have come across within my academic career. His exams are nothing like the homework, and he even had the audacity to lecture us about ethics. Completely unaware of both the irony and hypocrisy on his part! He did not provide enough time to finish exams with 20+ questions. Do not take this man!
I would advise to avoid this professor and take it with a different professor. It's better to be safe to save your money and your future endeavors.
Awful. Worst professor. He should quit teaching. No exaggeration
run away !!!! unless you wanna wrote papers in a math class about ethics and take quiz every week!! u will keep received warning in class about your attitude your lazy your problems and nothing wrong with him!! no extra credit no late hw, heavy hw and heavy lecture !! he will give to you his attitude, bad mood and negative effect to learn math
Max Lee may be the worst professor I have ever taken in my undergraduate studies. This is the only ratemyprofessor review that I have done, so that should tell you how motivated I was to write this review. He is extremely disrespectful and does not offer help on problems if you don't understand it. There is a reason every review of him is a 1/5.
Horrible. He flies through the material extremely fast without explaining what he's doing. He doesn't care if you understand of not. Avoid him if you can.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR I'M GOOD AT MATH BUT WHAT HE TEACHES ITS THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU NEED IN ORDER TO SUCCESS IN MATH2207 YOU WON'T SEE ANYTHING ON THE FINALES RELATED TO HIS CLASS!!!!! TRUST ME
Took his class 5 years ago and I still curse this man. Proceed with caution because you will ruin your gpa, I guarantee you. Save your yourself, and skip his class. Take it from an alum you is warning you about a class they took 4 years ago.
He really cares about his students! Requires a lot but ppl who do the work can get good grades
I took him for the fall 2022, worst professor bad hand writing, doesn't teach material thats on his exams, expects most of his teaching to come from online HW. would not take again.
Professor Lee is one of the worst professors in all of Baruch. In class he only lectures and either refuses to answer questions or when he does he answers them in a way that makes students sound stupid. His tests are unreasonably hard. A good portion of the students in my class failed the first test which wasn't curved and really set them back.
Don't do it to yourself. He doesn't really explain the work he shows. The course itself is already hard.
Terrible teaching style. All he does is solve the problem on his own while not explaining a single thing he is doing to get the answer. It would take him the entire lecture (1hr30min) to solve a problem he expected us to spend 5-10 mins on.
I took this guy almost two years ago and to this day he is the one professor i despise the most. He always makes snarky comments at his students to make them feel dumb and does not care whether or not you know what is going on. Also doesn't explain how he solves the problem, he just expects you to understand by watching him solve it.
His lectures are him doing problems for the whole time that are less complex and don't prepare you for the exam.
Took him during Fall 2023. My biggest mistake, he does weird comments all the time, gives a lot of homework, a lot of self studying. He knows about math, but doesn't know how to teach it. Don't do this to yourself and choose a different professor.
If i went to build a bear and built a horrible professor Prof Lee would pop out a machine. This guy is determined to fail every student that steps foot in his classroom. Literally 29/35 students dropped his class. If you have him as an incoming freshman I will pray for your soul. You are better off having Cookie Monster teach you math
This professor is incompetent. He doesn't know how to do math. On a pop quiz, he messed up the most basic exponent rules I have ever seen. When raising an exponent to an exponent, instead of multiplying them together, he added them. I have no idea how he is able to teach math; he has less of an understanding of basic algebra than a 7th grader.
Worst professor I've had so far at Baruch and no review can explain how bad he is. He is not caring about his students (he said once in class he'll kill you with his pop quizzes), he doesn't explain the material well at all and botches the questions on the pop quizzes. He should be avoided at all costs and I don't think he cares
Worst Professor Ever.
Professor Lee's teaching style leaves much to be desired. He solves problems without explaining the steps, making it hard for students to follow along. The exams are unreasonably challenging, leading many to fail. However, tools like unstuck AI and the free textbook can help with study prep.
Teaching style is incredibly difficult to follow.Rushes through problems without properly explaining the steps, leaving students confused. Exams are unnecessarily hard & pop quizzes feel like traps rather than learning tools.Resources available can't make up for his lack of clear instruction or care for students' success.Avoid taking his class.
AVOID! I had to drop his class because he's horrible.Probably the worst professor at Baruch.Almost the whole class either dropped or failed his class. He makes 1030 seem much more difficult than it actually is,homework is extremely demanding and he is a horrible lecturer that doesn't prepare you for the exams, or explain the material as he rushes.
DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR if you want to save your GPA. He does not explain what he does on the board. He assumes we know how to do everything. When we asked questions, he would make us feel slow or embarrassed. Made inappropriate jokes. A LOT of homework. Almost half of the class dropped, the rest stayed because we had no choice.
I had to drop because I was on track to fail. I failed all the tests and Ive taken College Algebra, and Precalculus and did great on them, but his accent was so thick, he was late almost every day, and almost every student failed the tests based off what I saw. The lectures and hw are almost completely unrelated to the test.
HORRIBLE professor. Do NOT take. Everything he yaps in class and the hw he assigns has nothing to do with the exams. Does not prepare you for any exams so it's just all self study. Does not explain work, answer questions, or help students. Failed me by 1 point on the final and at least half the class dropped or failed. Good luck
Took him in the fall, I know you're probably thinking, "he can't be that bad" DO NOT TAKE HIM, UNLESS YOURE A MATH GENIUS, DO NOT TAKE HIM, DOESNT EXPLAIN ANYTHING
Nice guy but does not know how to teach. When asked question he is kinda rude and doesn't explain it well. He won't give you any hints or valid review about what's on the test, it's like he doesn't want you to do good. There is the HW and take home quizzes that will help boost your grade. He knows math but not how to explain it.
please do not. I never write reviews but i just had to for this one. AVOID HIM, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS, WORST PROF EVER. I THINK MORE THAN HALF OF THE CLASS FAILED.
