Pretty difficult class, but if you go to every class and do homework, you should be fine. He gives out extra credit every so often for showing up to class or review sessions. DO NOT BUY BOOK. all you need is the mathxl code. Really helpful if you need it.
He is a very helpful professor! GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! He is super helpful!! Also at the end of the semester if you've gone to office hours and you have a borderline grade, it could help you in the end.
Very helpful, go to his office hours! He really knows his stuff! Would probably got a D if i didn't go to his office hours.
This is a really tough class with any professor he really understood that and tried to break it down a lot. He does lots of labs so if you finish your in class work early there is a little time to work on homework. His tests are online meaning open book which I really liked. Good professor hard class.
Max is a very cool guy and can be funny but his lectures are long, confusing, and boring. He is probably one of the better stats teachers, but the material is too confusing. Just go to A+ review to pass and get a decent grade in the course.
Velado is a pretty plain guy and not much energy but he is very good at teaching and making everything clear. I really learned a lot from his class and always felt prepared for the tests. We have two tests and the final, weekly homework and quizzes online that are fairly easy. Take STAT119A and get extra 2% added to overall grade at end!
He explained each concept in a confusing way and I only learned anything by doing the online homework. There is one online quiz a week with 2 midterms and a final. One of the other Stat TA's offers a free 5 hour review session before each test which is super helpful and is the reason I passed the class. He gives in class assignments, so go to class
If I had to take another math class (Thank god, I don't) I would pray it was with Velado. Stat119 is by no means easy but his lectures are CRYSTAL CLEAR--if you show up to class with the intent to actually learn and process the information, you will do great. Go to his office hours!! If he sees you put in the extra effort, he could bump your grade!
He is a good professor, I highly encourage others to take his class. He cares about students and his grading is generous. He is really good at explaining concepts... which means its not recomendable to skip his lecture.
Personally I thought Velado was a tough professor. He was pretty unclear during lectures and the only way I would learn how to do things was the online homework. The quizzes are basically the same so all it teaches you to do is memorize the homework. I had a hard time following him and his tests are different then the other stat professors.
He is a good professor. make sure you go to class. Offers extra credit on every test including the final!!!
Excellent professor! he is very clear and makes everything so simple. The material itself is confusing (stats.......) but Velado makes it possible! Don't skip a class and you will get a good grade for sure. Gives a lot of extra credit opportunities as well. I'd take him again for sure
I got an A in this class. That's the first A I've ever received in any math class. His lectures make sense and the tests are comprised only of subjects covered thoroughly in the lectures. He offers a decent chunk of extra credit, and his homework and quizzes were online; applied directly to the subjects covered in the lectures, Notes on all tests.
Stats is a pretty tough class but for someone who isn't good at math, it's pretty do-able. I recommend taking stats with him.
Stats is a confusing subject but the way Velado teaches makes it more clear. However, if you miss a class, you will be lost for a long period of time. He makes difficult subjects way easier. Highly reccomend!!
LOVE THIS GUY! He's the absolute best! He's such a chill guy and he makes stats super understandable! He gives you so many EC opportunities and most of them are easy! He's always the coolest geek ever. He'll sneak in some pop culture movie ref or a video game ref in his tests. He's the best, fight your way to get a seat in this class!
I got As on all the mystatlab online hawk assignments. Took the first test and thought I probably got around a B. Boy was I wrong bc I failed the test. Bottom line is you must study for the tests more than you think or you will be disappointed with the result. Also make sure to get 90s+ on mystatlab hmwk and quizzes because they are 25% of grade.
Lectures are boring. Homework is nothing like the tests (which are impossible by the way). He basically just reads you the notes during class, but you have to go because he gives 2 point in class assignments probably once every three classes.
Velado is really helpful! He goes through lots of examples in class which are just like the HW and quizzes. If you're stuck make sure you go to office hours because he works through the confusing points with you. The tests can be hard, but he posts multiple study guides online with questions that are similar to the test! You need to work for the A!
Velado is an awesome professor!! Teaches straight to the tests. if you have questions he will try his best to answer clearly. He gives a lot of extra credit/in class participation points for attending his lectures so you have to go. He's funny and is clear about what is/isnt on the tests. i would take him again!!!
TAKE VELADO! he makes stats easy to understand.
Max is a cool guy, but the class itself is just boring. He tries his best to make things clear and if you approach him with a question, he will answer it. He gives opportunities for extra credit and the tests aren't too bad as long as you've paid attention in class.
If you put effort into this class, you will come out with an A or B. Show up to every lecture and do the study guides posted online before exams. He gives extra credit and participation points for going to class, so go! A funny, chill guy but stats is just a boring subject. There are online homework assignments and review sessions before tests.
Stats can be a difficult subject, but he makes it understandable. He goes over the notes on Blackboard so make sure to print them out and have them for lecture. Remember to do the online homework and quizzes, he drops your two lowest quizzes. Go to class, you never know when he'll do an in class assignment and those help. Overall, great professor.
His lectures and labs are well organized. He comes up with funny and interesting examples for the concepts he discusses in lecture. Homework is frequent, but is manageable if you're on top of it. Don't fall behind, and take notes in class. Read the book, it's not a hard read, and ask questions in class. Overall, a really good course!
such a greatteacher, he makes everything very easy to understand! theres online hw and quizzes, 2 midterms, and a final but as long as you study for the tests you'll be fine. he offers extra credit for every test and he also makes some of the in-class assignments e.c. if no one showed up. he doesn't take attendance but i recommend anyways
BEST CLASSS EVER SOOO EASY AS LONG AS YOU STUDY HE GIVES ALOT AND I MEAN ALOT OF EXTRA CREDIT AND HE IS VERY HELPFUL YOU WIL BE VERY VERY LUCKY TO GET HIS CLASS !!!!!!!!! TAKE HIM HIGHLY RECOMMEND BEST TEACHER AT STATS !!!
Take his class if you can I had friends in another teachers class and literally they had no extra credit nothing Professor Velado gave us extra credit for literally every test and he drop your lowest quizes and if you take the 119a he gives you a 2% booost !!!!!! Take him and study hard you will get an A for sure!!!!!!!!
This class was honestly one of my favorite classes this whole semester he made everything clear and easy to understand if you can take him i definetely recommwnd and dont buy the book just buy the online code you will never and i mean never read the book he explains everything and makes it crystal clear TAKE HIM !!
While this class is hard and will take a lot of effort to pass, Velado is probably the best option for it. The class was definitely very hard for me and I had to study a lot. The tests are difficult even if you study. It took a lot of my time and energy but that's what I get for being a business major.
Go to class if you don't want to get behind. I missed one class and it definitely impacted my understanding of the content for that chapter. Velado is pretty clear in his lectures but goes very fast. Sometimes he has in class assignments that have to be turned in at the end of class for points. Study hard for midterms/final and you'll do fine.
Max is a cool guy. Lectures are very organized; I swear even his jokes are prepared. But they're still hilarious. The homework/labs aren't too difficult, but skip more than 1 and you won't get an A. The exams are based off of hw, so make sure you study old assignments before exams and you'll do fine. He's a lot of help in office hours, too.
Super cool guy, and outlines everything through the notes. Very helpful. All of the homework is done online. Best stat teacher to take!
Pretty good teacher, not as popular as Noble though. All homework and quizzes is on my statlab and it's easy to boost your grade if you do good on them. He requires you to print out a paper for each section and you HAVE TO follow along with him in class to fully understand the material, don't miss class.
Chillin teacher. You do need to study and do the hw and try to do well on all online quizzes (he drops lowest 2). Easy to understand, offers extra credit. I did spend the most time studying and doing hw for this class compared to others.
Max was excellent at explaining course material and going over something again if anyone had a question. In addition, he offered a lot of extra credit opportunities to improve your grade and understanding of the chapter work. Taking his class was also better than being in the other 500 person lecture.
Best math professor ever! He makes everything you learn seem so simple and clear with all of the examples he does in class. His exams were very similar to the ones he gave us to practice so definitely do them! Also he offers extra credit for every exam,so dont take it for granted. Study, pay attention and you'll be fine.
Velado is a cool guy and a good professor, but if you're not really good at math this class requires a lot of work. DO NOT MISS CLASS or you're gonna be behind on the material. I missed quite a few classes and got a D (completely my fault). He never took attendance. 2 midterms, final exam, lots of online homework and quizzes.
Great lecturer - very clear, gives good visual aids, engaging to listen to. Doesn't upload lecture material to Blackboard (No power points, no lecture notes), but he does upload practice problems for every quiz. He doesn't test on anything he doesn't talk about in lecture, I only opened the book to do the homework problems.
It's hard to follow along with the lecture sometimes so pay close attention to understand what is going on. Attendance is essential because he goes over ALOT of material during each class. He offers a lot of extra credit opportunities which rocks. Alot of online hw& quizzes to keep up with. Uploads practice tests b4 each exam which is super helpful
Velado is AMAZING. I am no fan of math and still passed the class with a clear understanding of the material. He offers lots of extra credit that is added to your test score, which basically saved me this whole semester. He explains the material very clearly and prepares you well for each of the 3 tests by posting practice exams online. TAKE HIM.
Took Velado for 119 and 550 at the same time and he was great. Did not use a book for 119 but he did for 550. Standard procedure, go to class, do assignments, do EC, study with practice tests, get an A. Workload was very manageable. He is a super fair grader, chill, and even rounded me up to a better grade in 550. Take him if possible.
Velado is an amazing professor. He makes learning statistics really easy. He provides a lot of extra credit by attending class and completing the practice tests before the midterms. Make sure to learn his calculator hacks and to pay attention to the questions from the practice tests (they are almost identical to the ones he puts in the midterms).
Velado is such an amazing professor and waaaay better than Noble. If youre not that great at math and want to pass stats take him because he gives you more opportunities to pass. Study his practice exams and pay attention in class & you'll do great.
Such a great professor! Online HW and quizzes are easy. He uploads practice tests before every exam - STUDY WITH THEM! They are very similar to the midterms. I hated stats in high school and wasn't very good at it but this class was easy for me!
Velado is a great professor. He really knows how to go over material in a very understandable way. Going to class is very important because he goes over a lot. His exams are almost identical to the practice exams he posts on BB for practice. He also offers in class assignments that sometimes go towards your test score. Take him if you can!
Good man. I didn't do too well in my High School statistics course but with this professor, I improved a great deal. He does a fine job at explaining the topics provided and is kind enough to offer practice exams in preparation for tests.
Grading is Quizzes 15%, Labs 15%, Homework 20%, Midterm 25%, Final 25%. The Exams and quizzes look a lot like the homework. Also, the textbook can be hard to follow, but he tells you all of the formulas you need to know in class which helps. The textbook is mainly just needed for the hw. Pay moderate attention to when he lists a formula.
If you're trying to decide between Velado and Nobel, take Velado. The only downside is class is 3 times a week but it is worth it. If you show up to class on the days he takes attendance, he gives you 3% back on your tests which is extremely helpful because most of your grade is 2 midterms and a final. He also gave our class a 4% curve at the end
Attendance isn't mandatory but he randomly gives in class assignments. he makes the material super easy to understand. the tests are EXACTLY like the practice exams he gives you, that is the only thing you need to use to study. Super easy and there are online quizzes but they're exactly like the HW and u have 2 attempts. he's super chill take him
Stats isn't my thing but I have to say, Velado did a good job. He's very kind, caring, and actually sweet. I enjoyed his class. He can go a bit fast through lectures, so just try to keep up. His lectures, tests, and homework are very straight forward. He gives you like study guides and the exams reflects that. His class is fun and he's a fun one.
I have taken stats classes in the past, and he was the only teacher that I understood the material. He gives weekly and quizzes homework due Fridays, if you keep up with your assignments that will help your grade a lot. He gives a lot of notes in one class, so i don't recommend skipping.
Math is not my best subject so taking Velado was the right decision. He is extremely generous w/ extra credit & his lectures are very thorough. If I didn't have to focus so much on chem, I could have gotten an A easily. Only 3 exams, so be careful. He drops lowest quiz grade. Tutoring is great, utilize it! Take Stats 119A as well for a 2% boost!
He is amazing at teaching the subject. First time taking stats and really engaged in his lectures. He hands out prettied out notes and goes over them in class. Graded by three exams and some homework as well as quizzes in mystatlab. Go to class and you'll do fine
Math is not my best subject but Velado made it understandable and not painful! He is extremely generous with extra credit and prepares you well for each exam. Take Stats119A for a 2% boost & you'll be set! There are only 3 exams so be mindful! Oh, he drops your lowest quiz grade too. Please take him if you can, he's a great professor and human!
Take Velado!! Stats is not the easier subject, but he makes everything really clear & understandable. You have to print out the lecture notes every week to follow along (normally like 8 pgs), do online HW & Quizzes. It is extremely straight forward. He's completely open for all questions and has some "extra assignments" that may help your grade <3
If you're a math major and need credit in stats - take Stat 550 and take it with Velado. If you go to lecture and put effort into the hw, the rest of the class is a breeze. Your final grade consists of quizzes, homework, labs, 1 midterm, and 1 non-cumulative final. He tells you what you need to know beore. Live Love Max.
When he lectures, he sometimes pauses to allow students to complete his sentences. This seems like something that you would be too old for, but it really helped me stay engaged and it encouraged participation. He made statistics at this level less intimidating for me.
His lectures are pointless he basically gives you fill-in the blank notes. Whenever you visit him during office hours he seems bothered by your presence. Perhaps he rather be texting that helping his students understand statistics. The one positive aspect about him is that he offers 2 extra credit points in every exam which can boost your grade.
Prof. Velado was a good Stats teacher, very fair and offers a lot of help. I highly recommend using the test review items he post those are extremely close to the test (literally the practice is the test). Homework and quizzes can be hard, definitely harder than the actual tests.
Really awesome teacher. He made Stats very clear and understandable. I was dreading taking a Stats class but it is one of my favorite classes I have taken at State because of him.
. Gives practice exams, memorize the questions, similar to the ones on the test! There are two midterm and a cumulative exam. There are random in-class assignments and extra credit before each test. There is a lot of hw and quizzes, take a picture of the hw problems and save your work there the same to the ones on quiz , just with different #'s.
i knew going into this class that i would struggle because math has never been my subject, so i worked so hard, attended lectures, took notes, and went to tutoring along with completing all the hw and quizzes. I did horribly on all the tests and Velado DOES NOT respond to emails, even if they're just a simple question.
He is an awesome professor. His lectures are boring, but he teaches the material well and gives lots of examples. Homework is every week. Has about 3 labs, which he basically gives the answer to in class the week before. The tests are not to bad. Very similar to the examples done in class. People say this class is harder than it actually is.
Incredible professor. He dumbs down the material, and this is great for students like me that struggle in math. I took Noble first semester and received a C-, but second semester I took Velado and earned a B. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! Went to office hours and he immediately fixed any issues. Practice exams(extra credit) are identical to real exams.
Best stats professor at state! doesn't take attendance, but he ACTUALLY teaches and goes over every chapter + notes in class. 2 midterms (40%) and final (30%) the rest are in class assignments and online hw and quizzes. Has extra credit for every test and curved my class, saved me from a C- for sure. Really cares, but tutoring helps a lot.
Velado is definitely the best Stats professor at SDSU. Dumbs down the material and actually teaches. Offers extra credit on every exam and trust me you will need it, the exams are hard. Do really well on online HW and quizzes, do all the extra credit, and take stats 119A for a 2% boost. He ended up curving the class at the end. Caring guy honestly.
I never had Noble but from what I've heard Velado was the right choice. The coursework is essentially the same but Velado doesn't use clickers, however he will have random in class assignments so you can't skip every class. DO HIS PRACTICE EXAMS!! He gives good extra credit and if you study as you take it you'll be set for the real test
This class is impossible
Velado is an amazing professor. He constantly offers extra credit to his students, and he posts previous years tests so you know exactly what you will see on the test. He gave students a 4% boost on our first midterm just for turning in a practice exam. Just pay attention and do the extra credit . I am not a math person, but somehow I have a 97%.
Amazing professor!! Super nice dude and helps alot. Def recommend him!
He is a really good professor and he makes the material pretty easy to learn. I took AP stats in high school and didn't understand any of it, but he made it a lot easier to understand for me personally.
Velado is one of the best teachers to take for STAT-119. His lectures and tests are straightforward and all MC. He does not take attendance every class period, but he randomly assigns in-class assignments that are 5% of the grade. There are opportunities to raise each test grade by 4%. Definitely attend SI sessions to get extra practice questions.
The midterms are super hard and so is the final . All the homework and quizzes are online.... $90 to just do your homework and quizzes... MAKE SURE to get 100% on all homework you have unlimited tries, also on quizzes try your hardest they're based off the homework this will be key to get a good grade.
best choice to take stats. not gonna lie, i got an A on both midterms, and i studied for like an hour for them lmao. the tests are VERY hard tho. make sure to get 100% on all hw since you have unlimited tries and try to get the best grade you can on the quizzes. DO EXTRA CREDIT PACKETS, THATS WHAT HELPED ME STUDY AND IT GIVES YOU 4% EC ON MID'S.
I was so scared to take stats but Velado is great at teaching it and making it very straight forward.
I am not a statistician by any means, and I had to work hard to do well in this class, but Velado gives you all the resources you need to succeed. He explains everything to you in a way that the average college student can understand. Super cool guy, just show up to class and youre solid for the semester.
TAKE VELADO!!! best math class I have taken. in-class assignments make attendance mandatory. He really dumbs down the material and goes through it slow in class so that it is easy to follow. definitely recommend
do not take him. you are better off taking this class with someone else. I thought he was going to help me understand but nope. His tests are even worst. they are so wordy and doesn't get straight to the point. Not even that, but with this pandemic going on, he isn't even giving us some help to our grade. Everyone in my class failed the final.
Gives extra credit. Would definitely take his class again. Decent amount of homework but the online quizzes are exactly like the homework questions. Tests are based off notes and if you study you can get a good grade in the class.
Classes are boring fast paced and straight forward. I suggest going to class or youll be very lost on the homework. Quizzes and assignments are pretty simple. He offers extra credit and has been very accommodating during this whole covid situation.
Awesome professor. Stated exactly what he wanted in test, gave a lot of extra credit, and was always available to help. Made learning easy, organized and fun. For tests, just study practice tests, and go over his review sessions to get an A.
Easily one of the best professors I've had. MC Tests are exactly like the lecture notes and practice exams. His lectures are accessible and easy to follow. There are a few random in-class assignments. HW and quizzes have multiple attempts to get a 100 and quizzes are based exactly on the HW. Gave a lot of extra credit for exams.
All the positive reviews of Velado are SPOT ON. He is THE best stats119 professor. Switching to online was difficult at first but he still gave great lectures/notes and EC. Get 100% on all HW and try to get high grades on the quizzes, they are easy points that really help your grade. SIGN UP FOR STATS-A it gives you a 2% boost on your overall grade
Velado is the best Stats professor. I am not a math person and I had a good time in his class. His lectures are very clear and he teaches the content very well. He does very good review lectures near a test and only gives you the info that you need to know. He cares a lot about his students and their learning and it shows. Hands down the best
Velado is a great statistics professor. From what I heard about other stat classes, he is the best Stats professor so definitely take him if you can. Lectures are super easy to follow. He teaches clearly so even if you don't know anything about stats you will learn. Multiple tries on the HW/Quiz so get as much points as possible. Extra credit too.
Clear instruction and layout of the course, with lots of encouragement for tutoring! It was difficult to learn in such a large lecture but resources were always available.
Video lectures are posted each week so there are no class meetings, just watch them on your own time. One homework assignment due each week. Tests are only 20 questions, and multiple choice with a time limit of 1.5 hours. Love this class because it's super straightforward and simple! Prof. Velado is also very quick to respond to emails.
You have weekly homework and quizzes. 4 tests, one about every month. You get unlimited attempts to get 100% on the homework, and a few tries for the quizzes. There is no class, all of his lectures are pre-recorded. I would take someone else if you prefer zoom calls. Otherwise, Velado is great for working at your own pace.
Honestly, he was a really amazing professor, and although this year he didn't have any lectures over zoom (they were pre-recorded) he still was available and cared for students. If you took statistics in high school, take him the class feels like a review if you did so. Make sure to study though and do the homework and quizzes
He is a very fair grader, lets you do 3 attempts on homework and quizzes that are done weekly.. Pre-recorded lectures and goes over the weekly assignment during office hours. He is very caring, and as someone who hasn't done math in 5 years this class was really easy to follow and understand because of him. Wish I had him before for math!
Prerecorded lectures and homework on mystatlab. He offers lots of help over office hours and optional zoom meetings for specific topics. Easy A if you do the homework.
He's the best professor for stats, period. Very straight to the point and makes the lecture videos very understandable. Extra credit assignments before every exam. Office hours where he goes over materials every week. Unlimited tries on MSL homework so work to get 100% on all. There's just too many good things to say about him. Take this class!!!
Velado is the best option for STAT119 at SDSU. Lectures are incredibly easy to understand and follow along and cover the exact material on tests, quizzes, and homework. Practice exams and review videos make you very prepared for exams and he also offers extra credit. This course is an easy A with a great professor.
He honestly was very nice and responded to my emails fast. I enjoyed him a lot as a professor. I never attended a zoom or watched a lecture video. It had a lot of homework but was not awful and the tests were not watched which was nice.
I took AP stats in high school so I am biased and it was easy for me. You dont need to buy the textbook. All you need to do is keep up with the mystatlab/in class assignments, watch every lecture video and take DETAILED notes on the videos to use during the tests. SI is tutoring for Stats which is very helpful anytime you need.
Mr. Velado is very kind and has office hours twice a week for help on zoom. TONS of extra practice tests and extra credit before each test! Get the TI-84 plus from Texas Instruments. All you need are the resources provided no book. No mandatory zooms for virtual learning only optional zooms for help
although his lectures are pretty long, he gives so many examples and walks you through each concept to where you are definitely prepared for the hw and tests. lectures actually helped and were informational, but be ready to set aside a good amount of your time to watch them all. overall, would recommend and would also take again!
asynchronous class, about 5 prerecorded lectures each week 30 minutes each. Offers extra credit study guides that can boost your grade 3% and offers an additional SI class that can boost your grade 2%. Homework, Quizzes, and tests all go over similar concepts.
Like everyone has taken this class and reviewed it, I'm gonna say it again: TAKE HIM! Velado is the BEST professor for STAT-119
He responds to emails quickly and is really helpful. A great professor for statistics and is very organized when it comes to assigning homework and quizzes. He also posts very helpful study guides for the exams and gives out extra credit for the exams. Overall a 10/10 professor.
Solid prof willing to work with you who is pretty straightforward. Great choice for stats.
5 test throughout the semester including the final. Gives you a handful of extra credit opportunities and you use statlab to complete hw and quizzes. Does a good job of explaining the problems and is very caring when it comes to helping you better understand the subject. I would take his class again
Velado's class was great. His lectures are easy to follow, although they are very long so I recommend splitting them throughout the week. The homework and quizzes are very helpful and do well to prepare you for the exams since they are very similar. This class is easy to do if you keep up on the homework and lectures.
you have to work hard for your grade in this class, all my lectures were pre recorded so you must be ready to take good notes and discipline in order to not miss any important dates. But solid choice, he is good at explaining.
Prof. Velado is great, a bit monotone, but if you watch his lectures and keep up with the work, you'll do fine. DO the practice tests and EC, tests are very similar to them. Gives group-like office hours in which he teaches how to solve class assignments and answers emails fast. All asynchronous. Solid choice for stats. Take him.
Velado was good at explaining but lectures could be long. I'm not good at math and didn't do great on the exams, so I needed Stat119A (2% EC) plus his extra credit assignments to get an A. Space out the homework! 10 to 14 questions each with like 6 parts took me 2-3 hours. Overall, pretty good and if you're a math person, probably easy A.
Math is my weakest subject, but this class is not impossible. Honestly, if you put in the work, you'll do fine. I also took stats119a which helped and the extra credit helped me a lot. The practice problems and practice tests that he put up helped me a lot as well. He gives you the materials to succeed, you just have to utilize them.
TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!! This was the most organized class I have ever taken. He made math very digestible and did a great job preparing students for his exams giving comprehensive reviews. Though I never attended any he also offered a weekly review that was live and I am sure that helped many people.
Velado made the content VERY easy to understand. Three midterms (all on Canvas & multiple choice). One cumulative final (all multiple choice). Homework & Quizzes are on MyStatsLab.
I am not good at math subjects but this was the first ever math course Ive ever gotten an A in. Velados STAT119 course is super fair. If you put in the work you will get an A. Be ready to watch 2-3 hour lectures. Study for the exams. Go to his office hours (SUPER HELPFUL!). And take the Stat-119A course for extra points. Take this course!
Velados class made it really enjoyable to learn stats. Hes very thorough with his explanations and makes it so easy to understand. The only time you may start to do bad is if you slack on watching his lectures (I did). It took awhile to get on track bc his lecture videos are quite long, so prepare for that. If you need credit for stats, take him!
He has a great voice and talks in a very calming tone. His pronunciation of words makes it very clear and keeps you interested. 100% recommend this prof.
Legend
Velado is a great professor. His course material is really straightforward and easy to learn from. I recommend going to class every time, because it's really easy to fall behind if not. Take notes in class and review them before exams and you should be completely fine. All exams are online too.
Very good teacher! Have to go to/watch the lectures (posts on Canvas) in order to pass. You are graded on a lot of assignments so your grade isn't just tests. He is the least boring lecture class I have taken. Midterms are 20 MC. HW can be time-consuming but you will learn something. This class is one where you will actually learn the material.
ok, everyone says this class is hard so I was scared going in. but he was actually a great teacher and I really learned easily through his teaching style. you just print out a packet of notes and follow along as he goes through it. also he posts videos of all lectures so its easy to stay caught up. I hate math but this class I didnt mind at all
easy prof for stats class didn't mind him, definitely have to work for your grade, but he's helpful when needed and not terrible
If you go to class the concepts are pretty basic and quizzes you get three attempts on which is nice.
Good math teacher, not too difficult to understand, just by attending the lectures I learned what I needed to know to pass and I didn't have to do much studying outside of homework assignments. Does a good job of preparing you for the tests. The only thing is that he talks a little bit weird, and is a bit monotone, but he's a nice guy.
This man stays goated, he is actually really funny in my opinion, assignment on separate platform once every likes two weeks, four tests the semester.
Velado is definitely a solid choice. He teaches the material well, gives out extra credit opportunities, records all lectures, and all exams are online including the final. The only thing is his MyStatLab assignments take up a lot of time so try not to do them last minute
Velado is a solid choice for stats becuase he gives very clear cut course material. The notes are easy to follow, but be sure to attend lectures. He gives extra credit, and SI was also very helpful for this course. Overall good professor.
Velado I believed tried his hardest to simplify the concepts within the course as best he could. Attendance is not mandatory but it's suggested so you don't stay behind. I would like to note that the class is still hard but still doable, make sure to ask for help if you need or take STAT 119A/X which offers support and extra credit for the class.
Great guy
Great stats teacher. Breaks down the material clearly, gives plenty of practice problems, and provides a lot of extra credit. Homework problems can be redone until you hit 100%. Online + open note quizzes/midterm/final. Lectures help a lot, but they are also posted on canvas and go over the basics.
glad i had him as my stats teacher. do not miss class or you will fall behind and will be very hard to catch up. do not forget to do msl assignments. recommend taking stats 199A, helps out a lot and gives you extra credit.
Professor Velado is amazing. Stop reading this and take him. He's an absolute W. His lectures are easy to follow. Take good notes, do the MyStat Lab homework and quizzes. If you do good on the practice exams, you'll pass. Extremely easy class if you pay attention and understand it. This mans is goated and extremely funny.
he's just great. tbh i didn't pay attention as much as i should've cause i took ap stats but his lecture's are really to the point and important stuff so as long as you do the notes you'll be fine. and homework is due like once every two weeks so that's pretty nice
By far my favorite gen-ed professor thus far, he gives you everything you need to succeed! Makes notes you fill out during lectures and gives great exam reviews. I'm not a math person at all but managed to get an A by the end of the semester! All exams and the final are online. TAKE HIM FOR STATS!!!
Velado breaks down stats pretty well so that you understand the material. Show up to the lecturers, understand the content, and do the homework and you'll be at a good place. Attendance isn't mandatory but just try not to skip too much because it is so easy to fall behind. Homework and my stat lab once a week and 4 exams throughout the semester.
Velado breaks down the material very well, and he does multiple example problems so students know how to apply the concepts to a problem. Go to class as it is easy to fall behind. One canvas assignment every week that can be redone until you get 100 percent. Mystatlab homework due about every two weeks. Offers extra credit before each test.
This class has a lot of extra credit and ways to increase your grade so its hard to not get an A. I never really went to lecture, but he is a great professor. The HW and HW quizzes are pretty tedious and harder than the actual tests.
Took his course during the summer. He made stats so easy to learn, especially if math, in general, is not your biggest strength. 2 exams and gave 3 extra credit opportunities, so take advantage of them. Was very thorough with every lecture, making sure to explain every little detail on how to solve each problem. Overall, amazing professor.
Velado is a good professor, if you go to class and really pay attention you will easily do well. Had him for stat119 and there was not much homework, just occasional practice that you get multiple tries on and will help you prepare for exams. Exams were taken online at home, so it is relatively easy to pass
He is so helpful at making all the information clear. He gives so many resources to prepare you for exams and offers many extra credit opportunities. He is very nice and engaging and was the best professor for this class. i highly recommend.
Simple, clear-cut stats prof. He used examples with each lecture/concept, which helped with homework. Does have an interesting voice that takes some getting used to, but by far one of the better stats119 profs. All exams were online due to class size but proctored on zoom. 4 homework assignments & quizzes on webassign - 3 chances to take quizzes.
super chill guy who really cares about his students. 4 tests throughout the semester. extra credit available with each. total of 10 hw assignments and like 5 quizzes. easy a if you pay attention and do your work.
Graded on 10 homework assignments, a midterm, and a final. Fairly easy class however homework can make or break your grade. Teaches in a clear way and homework is easy if you understand lectures. Recorded lectures and posted online. Gave extra credit for showing up to lecture on two days. Overall a great professor and easy to approach.
If you suck at math and have to take Stat 119, then I highly suggest you choose Velado. His lectures are very clear, even to me and I suck at math. gives lots of extra credit. Has an interesting-sounding voice but you get used to it quickly. Homework is also due every two weeks and tests are very similar to homework.
I was worried about taking statistics since I'm not amazing at math, but this class was really good. You do all the quizzes on Canvas and have up to 3 attempts on all of them. The homework can be long but you have plenty of time to do it and it's hard to get less than 100. The tests are more difficult, but there are plenty of resources to help.
Super easy to pass the class if you go to lectures and take the stat 119A class. Tons of extra credit and homework are only due about once a month.
Super great for stats, take him if you can. Ipad, apple pencil and Notability as well as TI-84 Plus CE is recommended.
Velado is one of the worst lecturers I've had. It's like he expects you to already be a master at stats by the time you get to lecture. Be prepared to be staring at your computer screen for hours, frustrated because his lectures teach you literally nothing.
Made stats easier to learn and was one of the better options in the department. Grade was comprised of HW (25%) 1 midterm (37.5%) and 1 final (37.5%). Be meticulous with homework and don't submit it late. Midterm and final were open notes, all multiple choice, hosted on zoom, and received partial credit on all q's. But don't underestimate the class
Mr. Velado is a great teacher and offers a lot of extra credit to students that help your grade. The homework and quizzes are very similar to the tests. Do the work and you will get a good grade.
The class was very straightforward. Although lecture was not required, I highly recommend attending lecture as it was beneficial considering Velado walks through various practice problems that helped if you were confused about a concept. Test were via Zoom and homework/quizzes (online) were tedious, however, easy. Offers lots of extra credit too!
Overall a really easy stats class. The only difficult aspect is that the midterm and final are each 37.5% of the grade, so doing bad on one of the exams will really hurt. Homework was really easy and relevant to the lectures. Class was formatted where one day a week was an in person lecture and the rest of the lectures were posted as videos.
meh. never went to the lectures because I just couldn't learn with the way he talks, its not his fault, but I just ended up teaching myself everything instead. all online tests and quizzes. not bad, not great.
I'm really not a math person but I liked his class a lot. Attend lectures, they help a lot, and he gives great examples and writes extensive notes on top of the lecture pages. Those were super helpful. He definitely cares about his students and their grades as he gives a lot of EC opportunities and lots of test prep videos!
Max Velado was a great teacher and had a great way of teaching. He would upload a pdf of each of the lectures so attendance wasn't really mandatory but I still went. I like the way the homework and quizzes were structured, as the homework gave you unlimited attempts per problem so that you can actually learn it. Would definitely recommend taking.
AMAZING professor. Exams are online, homework is online. Is very understanding and will extend due dates. Lectures are easy to follow along. However, if you can't do online notes... your gonna end up printing alott of paper (which he doesn't use every page). Overall a great professor. (Hw always due sunday @midnight)
He is a solid teacher but it is really hard to pay attention. I can not read his writing and that is hard in any class, but especially a math class. Homework and assignments are straightforward and not too much work, I just hate his lectures I fall asleep.
I'm biased because I had to retake the class even though I passed (long story) and never went to class. Lectures aren't mandatory but aren't posted online. I watched the review videos before the tests and got A's on them. He is very effective at explaining content so it is easy to grasp.
velado was a really good stats professor. he explained everything very well, but lectures were a little boring (its stats). only graded on homework and exams but there were so many extra credits.
Velado was a really good stats professor. He explained everything very well, but the lectures were a little boring and not recorded. Your grade is based primarily on the exams and assignments to help prep for it, but do the extra credit practice exams and you'll be set.
10000/10 prof he makes the class really easy to understand and is a really nice guy. Make sure you take stat 119a along with this class as you get 2 points on your final grade and it really prepares you for what is gonna be on the tests.
Took for stats 119 and probably went to maybe 5 classes, homework and quizzes are online, homework can be done until you get your desired score and quizzes you have 3 attempts. Super easy class if you go to lectures, he explains well and when I went to his classes I actually understood math which is rare for me.
Professor Velado is a great professor and explains things very well if you attend the lectures. There are a few homework assignments throughout the year but all give you multiple attempts to get 100%. There is also many opportunities for extra credit throughout the semester. Overall would recommend.
There are 3 midterms and 1 final. Lowest exam is dropped. Offers EC before each exam. Homework and quizzes were long but fairly easy, unlimited attempts on the homework until you reach your score and 3 attempts on quizzes. His lectures are easy to follow along which made me like math.100% recommend taking this class. Best math class and prof ever.
Great professor! I actually understood Stats. Going to class was really helpful as well. It is not mandatory, but that is probably the only way you will understand what is going on. He drops the lowest exam grade.
Took him during Summer. His lectures are very understandable. Take him!
All exams are online which is a huge plus and it makes attendance pointless. He has a funny voice but is a good teacher and takes his time when explaining things. Good professor overall.
He is a nice guy who explains everything thoroughly. Answers emails rather quickly. Lectures must be attended because what he covers in class can not be found on Canvas. 10 homework assignments and 2 exams but they are open note. Only downside is that his handwriting is sloppy, but would recommend taking him if possible.
He's a nice guy, but it was difficult to get over the way he talks. He raises his voice up and down with each sentence. It wasn't really necessary to go to class but I also took stats in high school so I already knew most of the material. You cant really go wrong with the stats teachers at state, whoever you choose it's going to be fine.
Chiller, sometimes gives out extra credit if you come on fridays. Everything is online so Its easy
I am not the best at statistics but this professor is really good at teaching it. Lectures can be long but they have good and clear information. The prof is also very accommodating as needed and reachable outside class time. I would def take him again!
Did not show up to the class after week 1, can be competed entirely online and the tests give you plenty of time. There are a lot of homework assignments but unlimited tries on all of them so no big deal.
Grades are based on online homework (unlimited attempts), quizzes (3 attempts per question), and 3 exams. Come to class because if you skip you will be lost, he goes over a lot within 50 minutes. As long as you take notes and review them before assignments you should be fine.
If u miss one class you will never recover. Hw and test were chill but still challenging. Nice guy and provides detailed explanations and practice problems.
He is a great lecturer and is open to helping students in need of assistance. Most of your grade is based on tests but the course does have more homework and extra credit that will help with your grade. He also has an optional final ,but that might have changed.
I thought Professor Velado was a great guy and structured his class very well. I personally had a hard time understanding the material since math isn't my strong suit, so I had a hard time during the exams, but he gives you all the tools you need to succeed and offers extra credit, it's just a matter of investing time outside class time to study.
Amazing professor who lays out all the information in his lectures. Go to the lectures and you will pass this class with flying colors. He genuinely cares for his students and does not assign too much homework.
Very well structured class. Study outside of class and show up to every lecture (and I mean EVERY lecture, miss one and you'll fall behind very quickly) and you can pass this class very easily. He also drops your lowest exam score if your final exam score is higher than one the previous exams. I highly recommend taking his courses!
This class was so easy, I would recommend to go to every single lecture because if you don't you'll get lost since he only go through the material once. I would also attend the zoom reviews that are given before each exam. I got a 100 in all of my quizzes because of the reviews. Overall, the class was well-structure and the test were all online.
Almost the exact same course as AP statistics. Velado has packets of notes that he has you bring to class and then he walks through them and goes through examples. If you show up, you will have a good understanding of the material. There were four online exams (including the final) and weekly homework. Lectures are long but not too boring.
I was very worried about taking statistics because I have heard it was very difficult. Professor Velado made it easy and very understandable. Take his class if you need Stat 119. Just show up and pay attention and you will do great. He is quick to respond to emails and puts grades in immediately.
Overall not bad class. Prepare to pay $36 for software used for all assignments. Also, be prepared to clear schedule for exam times. I had another SDSU exam during the same time as his exam and I provided proof and he did NOT change the exam time or try to accommodate. Luckily my other prof was helpful (unlike him). Lectures have terrible audio.
Professor Velado's STAT119 class is well-structured and manageable if you stay on top of the material. Attendance is crucial, and Unstuck study can be a helpful study tool alongside the provided resources. With effort, you can succeed in this course.
You will not understand anything he says, and his teaching strategies are terrible. I learned more from YouTube than him.
Attendance isn't mandatory but extra credit is given for going. If you pay attention and take notes the class is free. He prepares you so well.
Professor Velado is an amazing professor who is super easy to understand. He offers lots of extra credit opportunities before exams and lots of practice material for exams as well. Attendance isn't mandatory, but lectures are important to go to to understand the material and not get behind. Overall a great class and professor, would def take again
Make sure to attend the lectures because it's easy to fall behind. Lectures are really clear with a note packet to guide you and lots of in class example problems that prep you well for the homework and exams. Exams are pretty light and you get notecards and extra credit opportunities. Talks a bit weird during lectures but it's just to engage you.
attendance isn't graded but i recommend showing up to take notes that are useful for tests. i didn't learn much from the lectures because he moved fast with notes, but there are zoom reviews you should def take! 3 tests in person. final was cumulative and online because it was at night. youre allowed a flashcard for each test.
Lecture based class. 3 in person multiple choice test(15 questions). 1 online final(take anywhere)(40 questions). Gives follow along packets which are helpful. Would recommend stat 199a if you're bad at math. Ended with an 98, very easy for a math class.
Weekly Cengage homework assignments and canvas quizzes, but you can take them as many times as you want until you get it right. There were three exams + one final, and you're allowed one notecard front and back. Final was online. TAs hold review sessions before the exams. Just attend lectures at least once a week and you'll pass easily.
Overall he is a great professor, lectures weren't the best I've ever had but he gets to the point. He only grades on the homework and the 3 exams plus the final. If you do everything and study before the exam you will probably pass with a B or higher. 10/10 would take again.
If you took AP Stats in high school its not much different. 3 exams plus a final (ours was online). Super lecture heavy. Clear in class and gave good notes and resources (notes, practice problems, and extra credit). Some units were hard but he drops your lowest score. Overall a good and thorough professor I'd take again.
prof velado made stats so easy to understand and gives you all the materials to succeed in his class. lectures aren't mandatory, but you will fall behind if you miss class. provides lots of review material before exams and ec opportunities. one note card per exam, though if you study you won't really need it. would definitely take his class again!
I would totally recommend coming to his lectures. He explains examples for each subject clearly, and has office hours for students (although the TAs have more tutoring hours next to his office, and can give exam reviews). Would take again. However, he got sick in Jan 2025 and had to go on medical leave. (It is unknown when he will return)
He is a great Stats professor. For exams, you are allowed to bring a notecard, and the exams are very easy if you study. He also gives plenty of study material for the exams, as well as an EC practice test that is very similar to the test.
Professor Velado is one of the better math professors here at SDSU, if you go to his lectures and take notes (which he provides), you will easily do good in his class. Their are 3 unit tests (one of which you can drop at the end) and then a final exam. Their isn't too much homework and if you are struggling the TA's for his clas are very helpful.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but go to the lectures to get notes for the exams! He annotates with you and also has TAs who tutor in person and virtually. You get a note card and a formula sheet for the exams; all exams are multiple choice. 1 final that is cumulative. He offers extra credit, and the practice quizzes are exactly like the exams!
He's really chill, straight to the point, gives lots of resources before each test, his TA's specifically Nick helped a lot beforehand. Attendance isn't mandatory but he explains the notes fast and to the point so it's worth it and if you show up he'll give out random extra credit.
attendance isn't mandatory, showed up for the first few weeks then stopped but still ended up with an A. go to the virtual review sessions before each exam (nick jolson), he gives you the review material afterwards and all of the problems are literally the exact ones on the test just worded differently. i got 100 on all the tests bc of it.
Great professor! He explains concepts very clearly and creates a comfortable classroom where participation feels encouraged. I enjoyed answering questions in class. The homework and practice exams are very helpful for preparing, and being allowed an index-card cheat sheet for each exam is awesome. Recommend participating in class, truly helps!
His voice can be kind of hard to get past, but the class is very easy. I didn't attend a lot of lectures at all because I took stats in high school, and i still grasped concepts very easily. All the homework is online, final is online, and tests are in person. Really good professor, I would watch his review vids the night before and did fine.
extremely straight forward class. lecture heavy, but he posts every single one on canvas. plenty of studying options. 3 in person exams and then an online final. all very simple just really up to u to study, which really doesnt take long since its p much all calculator work. barely any homework, it is all online and easy to finish.
This class was very straightforward with all the resources provided. The practice tests were the same questions on the tests with different numbers, the zooms before the test went over everything you needed, flashcards on tests, etc. The final was online. Recommend taking, first time I've gotton 100% on a math test.
Honestly a dream for a first year. Very clear directions and easy to contact. I recommend going to lectures since he gives notes that are extremely helpful for test but you can probably pass by just going to the tutoring lessons. 10/10 recommend !
Class is very easy if you do all the work. Tons of homework and extra credit that boosts grade. 3 tests that are only 15 questions and all multiple choice. Final is also online and replaces lowest test grade.
