He is the best Spanish professor at Pitt Community College
I received an A in this class. He taught the vocabulary as he came across it in our worksheets. If you study his study guides he hands out, you will be just fine on the test. I would not recommend him if you are serious about learning and pursuing Spanish.
If you pay attention to when things are due and show up to class on time, you should receive an A. Study guides are literally the same format as the tests. Two tardies=1 absence. Online homework component due at the end of the semester, start early it's a lot of work. Dr. Cuevas is very nice and very intelligent (not in a cocky way).
This class was a crazy amount of work. The professor did not respond to emails.
Took this class online over the summer, HUGE MISTAKE. The homework load was incredible and nearly impossible to complete while taking two other classes and working. Sought the help of tutoring. He did not respond to emails quickly at all, when he did it was a vague sentence or two. Would not recommend this class.
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR!!! Do not take this man's course. I took online Spanish with him during the summer and it is easily one of the hardest classes i've ever taken. He is very, VERY unhelpful. Will not reply to emails and expects you to learn from the god awful software he uses for his class. Consider yourself warned.
I took this class this summer and quickly found out I was in over my head. He tells you there will be about 5 hours of work a week, but that is a COMPLETE lie. There is two and a half hours of homework a night. He does not respond to emails and if he does they rarely are more than a sentence. To call this man a professor should be a crime.
Worst professor ive had for either an online class or a regular class. Completely absent.
Cuevas is horrible. He will not help you even if your questions are legitimate. He can be pretty rude that is if he even replies to you. Don't take his class if you can. Its been the worst investment in my education so far.
This was my very first online class and because of this horrid exerience I will try my best to stay FAR AWAY from them in the future.
Overall He was a great teacher , i understood why he went over homework and the lessons taught reminded me of high school i didnt really like wiley plus because when you try to recorded it skips but overall he is a great teacher i would recommend his class !
Dr cuevas is cool
Good teacher but class is hard and gives a lot of work.
Dr. Cuecas is an amazing teacher who will push you to be your best. If you need help, he will help the best he can. To help you learn and apply Spanish to the real world, he tells about experienced of stories from Spain, New York, or around ENC. He gives plenty of extra credit as long as you work for it.
Dr. Cuevas does give a lot of work, but almost all of it is useful and will help when preparing for a test. His grading can be strict on some assignments, but he gives points back where they are deserved. He also provided several extra credit opportunities that were very helpful to my grade.
He is a tough grader, he provides extra credit but he gives a lot of homework. You HAVE to participate in this class to pass.
By far the worst professor that I have ever had. I sent him an email and it went 4 days unanswered until I went to class that week where he then proceeded to "answer" my email in front of the whole class. He basically called me a liar in front of everyone and I was humiliated. Very rude and awful at explaining things to you if you have questions.
A very tough professor but provides extra credit for when assignments go bad. Lots of homework that is tough but is helpful. You have no choice but to participate in this class because he chooses random people to answer the questions. Overall teaches well.
homework is not difficult, expectations for the semester are clear cut in the syllables,
Great professor. Dr. Cuevas does assign a lot of work, but it's necessary. DO NOT ever miss class. You will be so behind and confused when you show up to the next class. Although he grades tough, he offers a lot of extra credit opportunities. Always do your homework or you'll look stupid in front of the whole class during participation activities.
Dr. Cuevas ended up being one of my favorite teachers this semester. While the amount of homework assigned may seem excessive, when learning a new language, practice is everything. If you're looking for an easy A, you'd be better off with a different professor. If you're looking to truly learn a new language however, you can't do much better.
Dr. Cuevas sure does challenge you to do your best. If you don't do your homework and he knows it he will call you out for it. At first I was not a fan of his class but it just took a little getting used to and is now my favorite class on campus. He offers a ton of extra credit. He cares about you passing and offers his office hours to anyone.
Dr. Cuevas is overall a very good teacher. He gives an enormous amount of homework throughout the whole semester and if you don't do it he will call you out. Participation is a must in his class. His class is mildly difficult, but if you do bad on a test/quiz he gives several opportunities to do extra credit. He teaches well and is there to help.
Dr. Cuevas' class was very challenging. There was a lot of homework and in class participation. Overall, the class consisted of mostly new lessons and the tests were not too bad as long as you study. His teaching style didn't completely align with my own, however, it did encourage me to study harder.
Lots of homework on paper and on Wiley Plus. Be ready to put in hours outside of class.
Dr. Cuevas class was a very good instructor. You not only learned Spanish, you also learned the history behind the different words and how the language evolved. He always made sure you knew his office hours so you could get help when you were out of class. He also answered questions in class and provided an outstanding environment for learning.
Professor Cuevas was a great teacher to have for a beginner's Spanish course. Make sure you come to class as much as you can, though he is understanding that life happens and things you cannot control. The homework is average amount and is easy as long as you pay attention in class.
In my experience, people who really didn't like this professor were people who wouldn't do the work and were mad that he still expected them to be able to participate in class. I learned a lot of both the language and cultures. There is a quite a bit of homework, but he gave the students a lot of opportunities to receive extra credit.
Dr. Cuevas is my favorite professor by far at Pitt. He not only teaches Spanish but he keeps you entertained throughout the class period. I would love to have him as a professor again in the future.
Dr. Cuevas is a good teacher, however I wasn't a fan of how much homework we had. He has a good sense of humor and gets everyone to participate in class which is why it is important to do the homework he assigns. He gives many different extra credit opportunities to make up for bad test grades.
Dr. Cuevas's class was definitely difficult because there is a lot of homework given and that makes it hard to study and memorize vocabulary. However, he is lenient with his grading and gives many extra credit opportunities. He is very funny and makes sure the whole class is answering questions, which is why it is important to do the homework.
Excellent teacher. Made learning another language relatively easier.
need to slow down
He's a good teacher.
I actually enjoyed the class and learned a lot!
Great professor if you attend class. He Does not e-mail you any reminders EVER so make sure you go to class to get due dates.
Really easy to get along with. Helps you understand when you are confused. Good sense of humor. If homework isn't done he will call you out. Participating isn't an option you will get called on! He does go pretty fast but lets you ask all the questions you have. There is homework everyday and if you miss a day be ready to catch up!
Professor Cuevas is one of the best Spanish instructors I've ever encountered. He breaks down topics in such ways that made the language easier to understand than in high school. Although it may be intimidating to have to speak aloud as he urges everyone to participate, I think his style helps students retain information.
He is not afraid to call you out during class. He also gives a lot of homework but really does try to make sure you understand what is being taught.
My experience in Spanish 111 has been really helpful. Everyday I came in and learned something new everyday. I love how we had to participate because that gives me a better understanding of the topic. Whenever someone has a question he was quick to answer. The class was very fun and I enjoyed the class.
I truly enjoyed Dr. Cuevas' course. He is a fantastic instructor. Dr. Cuevas never looked like he didn't know what he was doing. His class always had a flow to it. Dr. Cuevas always encouraged us to study so that we could pass every test. I would recommend him and his class to anyone that is looking to learn Spanish.
Dr. Cuevas was really helpful and explained everything very well and went over thing in class, and made sure to answer all questions to the best way possible.
He can be funny at times. He gives a lot of homework. He also makes you print off a lot of papers.
Every caring
Cuevas is a really cool teacher, there are times where he is serious and wants us to work on the work he gave us. Doing the homework is always important because we go over in the class and we have to participate to give the answers. He does give extra credit for all his tests and quizzes which is great if you need that extra bump.
Dr. Cuevas is one of the best teachers you can have. He tries his best to help his students by giving extra credit it's up to the students to take that opportunity. The only problem I have is that he makes you print a lot of papers for homework.
Dr. Cuervas is AWESOME! Tells interesting stories. He makes an effort to help you learn Spanish not just pass a test. One of the best Professors I have taken classes with at Pitt.
Dr. Cuevas is a great teacher! As a non-native Spanish speaker, this class was more difficult for me than other students but he did a great job answering all of my questions.
Dr. Cuevas is a solid instructor. Expect to participate in class because YOU WILL be called on to read or provide an answer. Three pages of homework per next class are common. He is willing to work with you if you miss some classes as long as you're willing to meet him half way. I would take his SPA 1 class again.
He's a great teacher, Im taking him next semester for spanish 2
Makes sure every student understands the material.
Dr. Cuevas is a great teacher, he helps us when we struggle pronouncing the words, he is available outside of class and tells the days and time he is available. His work is understandable as long as you do it.
Always do your assignments! Dr. Cuevas does not remind you every day about upcoming assignments, especially Wiley Plus. He offers plenty of extra credit opportunities, but they require actual effort outside of the classroom. Expect to have a decent amount of homework after every class. He moves through the content quickly, so be prepared.
Very good teacher!
Mr. Cuevas is a great teacher, but you won't learn anything if you skip. He gives a lot of extra credit!
Cuevas is an overall a good teacher. Spanish has proven to be very difficult for me and most of the time I have no idea what I'm doing. He doesn't answer my emails but if you ask to speak with him he will answer any question you have.
really good.
A great class overall- as long as you complete ALL homework and assignments. He is also not forgiving on the grading, but does offer extra credit occasionally.
Lots of homework but helps to learn material.
Dr. Cuevas is not overly strict, however, he takes his work seriously, and expects his students to as well. He is a great teacher and he always allows for questions. As long as you put forth effort, participate in class, and complete homework assignments, you should have no problem passing.
He was very knowledgeable of the material he was teaching.
Dr. Cuevas is a very entertaining teacher. He knows the material well, and tries his best to make sure everyone understands. Would not recommend missing any of his classes because you will fall pretty far behind. He was also quite understanding with his students not being able to complete assignments due to the hurricane.
Dr. Cuevas is a usual professor who uses the book during lectures, along with providing students with extra credit in order to improve their grade.
He is a good teacher if you complete his work
Overall good teacher. You'll have to really work for your grade in his class, he gives excellent extra credit opportunities though.
This professor knows what he is doing when it comes to his knowledge of the language. However, be prepared for lots of homework, and being called on regardless if you are struggling or not. I left his class crying many times because I was embarrassed to say any spanish out loud. The only bonus to his class is the opportunity for extra credit.
He is always willing to help a student out if they don't understand the material and he makes the class fun and exciting
Professor Cuevas is an amazing teacher with a wonderful personality. He is very tough and you really have to work for your grade, but he is fair. He takes the time to teach everything and will answer all your questions to the best of his ability.
Pretty good class
Doing your homework is a must.
He is a great instructor and he teaches great.
Mr. Cuevas was a tough teacher but he knows this class really well and will answer any of your questions directly. The class is tough but it gives you a much better understanding behind Spanish than if you go to one of those classes where you just have to show up in order to pass.
He teaches well.
Keeps the class fun and interesting while still managing to explain all of the material.
He grades things in a timely manner.
He grades things in a timely manner, but he does assign a lot of homework.
Good teacher, it's simply a hard topic. Would be better if there was individual help for those who struggle.
Other than all the homework that is given, Its a good class
Keeps the lecture fun and entertaining. It's nice that he offer extra credit as well as provides study guides for his test.
He is a great teacher who wants his students to learn.
Very nice and has lots of extra credit.
Very nice!
Really good teacher.
Dr. Cuevas taught Spanish 111 in a clear and concise manner. Enrolling in this class with high school and college students that are pursuing degrees assisted to make this class even more enjoyable. Dr. Cuevas introduced real-life experiences in the Latin American community. Appreciate the real hispanic accent!
Dr. Cuevas is an amazing professor. He truly makes you feel like anyone can learn the language. He knows his stuff! Be prepared to always have homework. There are also many many extra credit opportunities! Take advantage of this great teacher!
He gives lots of homework, but it helps with test, but most importantly with overall grade.
There is a lot of work involved
Great class and teacher to have if you work hard and show up!
Great Instructor, I learned a lot in just one semester.
I learned a lot in just one semester, great instructor. Really funny.
He was a great teacher but was very hard. I struggled but worked very hard and hopefully ill get an A.
Hard topics to learn at a quick speed but have definitely learned a lot.
Overall a great teacher. I would definitely take another class with him.
Good teacher , hard work
Dr. Cuevas is a fun and energetic professor. He makes the course easy and gives plenty of extra credit. He is understanding about situations if you just go talk to him. Only thing I did not like was the wileyplus, made the course extra long,
He's a good guy and class is never really boring, some of the projects are actually pretty fun. If you are in class be prepared to participate, he calls on every student. The workload was a lot with worksheets every class and online homework. I would not advise taking this class in a semester with other difficult classes or a heavy work schedule.
Dr. Cuevas is a great instructor; however, he is not afraid to hurt your feelings if you dont know something that was taught a while back. Also, if you miss class you will struggle tremendously. He often tells important information in class that you wont know any other way, and hell only mention it once. But he honestly wants everyone to succeed
This class was not hard. Do your wok on time and pay attention you'll make an A.
Pretty good professor all around
He is pretty strict on attendance but is a very easy going and informative spanish teacher due to his background. He was also very helpful for those who needed extra help.
This class can be fun, but it is better when you know the material. Coming from SPA111 with a different professor into this class was harder because I did not feel prepared due to lack of material taught in 111. Dr. Cuevas is definitely not afraid to call you out in class for not knowing something or to make an example to teach the class.
Spanish is a difficult subject to me, but the extra credit is super helpful.
Do all of your extra credit and homework. If you don't do it, you're literally gonna fail no doubt
A wonderful instructor who is great at explaining every topic. He makes learning Spanish fun.
You have to learn mostly on your own.,
Very good about giving you opportunities for extra credit to help your grade. Also very willing to meet with you anytime you need help with something.
Gives lots of opportunities for extra credit.
Very good professor. Makes Spanish clear and it is easy to learn with his teaching.
tough professor
tough class
Overall, he's a great professor. Just do not slack on the WileyPlus or the assigned pages for homework. Tests are based on the study guide.
Amazing professor! I always had a difficult time learning languages, but he made it very easy and understandable! If you did not understand a topic, he was always willing to re-explain something or even make an appointment for further help. Super nice and very respectful.
A very informative professor. You will have to participate in class, do the homework, and study hard. Extra tutoring is helpful.
Wonderful teacher, difficult class.
Good teacher but hard class. Just be prepared!
Can be very blunt and slightly rude.
can come off as rude but is a great teacher as long as you do exactly as asked
the class is great since the instructor explains the subject.
Large amount of homework, but lots of extra credit as well. Extremely strict will kick you out if you have used all your absences, but is very kind and is fun to be in class with.
He's a great teacher and having his class was fun
Good teacher. Does give homework and online work. It's a good class.
He is a good professor and he likes to have some type of connection so his class wont be as serious but all in all he is a really good professor
