Great instructor, gave pertinent examples. Encourages participation, speaking out in class will boost your grade. Relies on WebCT, daily lecture just a regurgitation of online notes. Major papers (2) due, interview + transcripts and a research essay. Strict APA grading.

she makes you do tons of work and usually doesnt grade it. she is always late if you have her for a morning class but then gets mad at others when they are late. she is hard to understand and only wants to talk about her home country.

always late to class (yet marks off for student's lateness), constantly schedules things and fails to do them (i.e. peer evaluations on group projects). Very picky and unclear in what she wants from you. Has trouble understanding english language and will mark things wrong in papers that are correct. Fell asleep during class presentation.

Stay away. She is a sweet lady and I think she really cares about students, but her teaching methods are hard to follow and her classes are an hour and a half nap time.

She is very hard to follow- the classes are interesting as we all share our experiences, however the tests seem to come out of left wing, and is over nothing in class. Best suggestion to study is the textbook, and the website for the textbook.

God, I'm taking her now and I would rather bite my arms off than to take her again. This woman is nuts!!! I took this class because I wanted to learn about various cultures, NOT JUST CHINA!!! Never again.

She is genuinely concerned about the needs of her students. She expects you to work but she will go to world's end to help you out. If you study, you will have no problems with teacher or class.

Such a waste of time...I can honestly say I didnt learn anything. She doesnt teach at all, just videos or power points. Her tests are so ridiculous...they are multiple choice, but several answers could work (no above all option though). She provides no guidance on papers. Will correct your grammer and word usage in papers INCORRECTLY. TAKE AUST!

I will have to admit, I took Dr. Gao in '05 and I dropped her class. I had no choice but to take her again because she was the only one teaching this course at KSU. The work was back to back papers and she switched alot around due to time conflicts and deadlines. Overall she is tolerable and if I got a "B" in her class anyone can.

All she talked about was china. She is quick to correct students when they're speaking even though she is not correct herself. Her test are vocab. It's nothing but a bunch of projects in her class. I wouldn't take her if you didn't have to. it's a waste of time

I took her for two weeks versus a whole semester due to the comments on this site. She was great- (it really was interesting) however~ her tests- impossible. it really was- definitions (easy-right?) but all multiple choice and it really could be TWO answers. So- regardless of the amount of studying- class everage was a C on midterm. Take maymester

If you are interested in china than this is the class for you if not do not take her for Intercultural comm. She has fav students and does not grade fair and test are very hard..I can explain this class in 3 words CHINA CHINA CHINA.

I am taking her now. At the beginning of the semester I thought I would drop it because she's a stickler for reading the book. She will randomly call ppl and if you haven't read she will make you STAND for the remainder of the class. She is sweet and likes to talk abt China. Make sure you talk alot and read your book. I recommend her for sure!

I took Dr. Gao for a study abroad to China. She's a tough cookie but you can tell she means well. Very intelligent. I hear she grades papers pretty strictly, but I was pleased with my grade.

This was a common sense class. If you pay attention to the power points in class and do the study guide, you will do fine. There is a group research paper. She grades it based on her preferences, not just apa style. LOTS of talk about China! She is impossible to contact via email. She will not respond in a reasonable time frame.

Why is this woman a teacher? She was horrible! I dreaded going to class, she was off topic so many times. Her powerpoints were 20 something slides and she did them in 2 minutes, at the end of class. She was just not responsible and very lazy in responding to emails that don't relate to Asian studies. DO NOT TAKE HER! Nice lady, bad professor

This class will require you to study, memorizing the text or cramming a few days prior to class will not work. Class participation is a must! I recommend you take good notes, read the book and the powerpoints. Professor Gao is very progud of her heritage, but that's not a bad thing. I made an A in the class. Simply put, do the work to succeed.

The worst teacher ever! Has TA grade the projects based on how she feels. Gao is not clear on what she wants, she is offense. I am currently in her class now and she sucks do not take her!and she doesnt like america clearly prefers chin and will talk non stop about it

One of the worst teachers I have ever had. She was rude, offensive, very unhelpful, did not reply to emails.. When I talked to her after class, she did not listen to the issue (group research paper, one partner violated academic honesty), she simply dismissed anything we had to say. If you can take someone else for intercultural, do it!

I took Prof Gao for intercultural comm as a hybrid. I thought it was pretty easy. I'm not the best student (didn't really read the textbook/ powerpoints unless a test was coming up) and made a B. The actual classes were kind of pointless, but at least were interesting. It was a midterm, final, and research paper. Do the work/ study and you'll be ok

I took this class as a maymester course. I thought Dr. Gao was a good professor to teach this course. She kept it interesting for the most part, even though the course was not that interesting to me to begin with. She shares many stories about her experiences in China, which relate to the material of the course.

LOVED this professor. TAKE HER!! She is sooo helpful & wants you to get an A as much as you do! She's so sweet & understanding & offers extra credit! I was hesitant to take her due to the reviews I read on here but I needed the class and hers was the only one left available. It honestly couldn't have worked out better. Seriously, easy A.

I took this class over Maymester. Since the content was spread over ten days there was a lot of work, but nothing that time management doesn't fix. Dr. Gao is a wonderful professor who definitely knows her material. I would highly recommend her, especially for Maymester.

Dr. Gao's class has been surprisingly fun. She responds very well to questions and is available to clarify material. This class is challenging, but if you do your work and study the vocabulary in the chapters, you will do fine on the test. The questions can be tricky, but this is to be expected seeing as this is an upper level class!

Professor Gao was extremely helpful and considerate to her students. I took this class as a Maymester and she was very understanding with the amount of work and reading we needed to do in such a short span of time. She wants you to do well and gives plenty of opportunities to gain points. Very interesting class as well!

She does a great job with engaging the class and uses group activities in each class for everyone to be able to participate in the discussions. There are two essays, a midterm and a final. Overall good as long as you kept up with the readings and assignments. She has 5 disc posts that are spread out 5 weeks out of the course. A midterm and final. A research paper that is 9-10 pages but is split up throughout the semester. Lectures are long, she will go until very end of class. Going to class-big part of grade. Lots of extra credit

Great professor! We did a lot of in class group discussions and went over power points almost every week. Attendance is important, she offers multiple extra credit opportunities to help you throughout the course.

Dr. Gao gives plenty of time for all assignments. Two big papers but the second builds off the first and she makes it easy. Timely feedback. Go to class because attendance is a big part of your grade. Make sure to do all discussion posts & responses because you'll print them off and turn in at the end. Nice professor, I would definitely take again

Dr. Gao is hilarious and will keep you interested during lectures. She shows lots of video clips and has a ton of class discussions. Tests are hard and straight from the book-you MUST study. Discussion posts every week, one big (easy) paper, and 2 tests. She gives TONS of extra credit opportunities which makes up for the difficulty of the tests!

She knows what she is talking about but has a difficult time explaining it. It was a hybrid class which made all the difference- I never would have been able to do this all in a lecture class. Going to class only matters for attendance points, otherwise there isn't much to learn. Everything is out of the book or on the online assignments.

There is nothing hard about this class exept you have to learn the material on your own. Prof. Gao barely goes over the material in class, but the tests are 100% based on textbook and her powerpoint.

Professor May is a great teacher hands down. Class time is easy and quick, a few online postings which are as easy as 1,2,3... Her main course paper is long, but not time consuming and she gives multiple options for paper topics. She even gives you the outline for the paper, making it easy as pie to get done!

Dr. Gao is very knowledgeable in Intercultural Communication because she has real-world experience. She is very pleasant to her students and respects differences that may come up. She is very instrumental in her students' success. You have to show initiative and she will be more than happy to help you succeed and learn. Read and participate!

Dr. Gao is very knowledgeable about many different cultures but, you won't discuss much, if any, of the material during class. She will review the study guide, a list of terms, before each test (midterm and final) but the test aren't hard if you know the terms on the study guide. There is 1 big project that will consist of 2 papers

I think Professor Gao was a great teacher! Her class is interesting to say the least and I feel like she would be your best choice. She gives so many opportunities for extra credit so there's no way you won't at least get a B in the class. Tests aren't too bad if you study.

I am taking Dr. Gao for Maymester Intercultural Comm. She is one of the all around best professors I have had at KSU. She is intelligent, helpful, and wants you to succeed. Be prepared to read, but this is college so that's normal. She gives several opportunities for extra credit. She encourages class discussions so we leave better rounded people.

I absolutely love Dr. Gao! She was so hilarious. I learned so much from this course and would definitely take it again. Dr. Gao is a professor that wants you to succeed and really cares about her students. As long as you are doing your part this class will be easy-breezy. Definitely read both the book and the power points. Tests are not that easy.

I really enjoyed Dr. Gao's class, even thought it was a Maymaster. She makes the course very interesting and has a lot of knowledge to share with the class from her experiences. I wish she taught other communication classes so I could take her again! Definitely one of my favorite professors. Take her class! You will leave knowledgeable & inspired.

I took this course during maymester. Dr. Gao is a wonderful professor. You will learn a lot from this course. Make sure you show up and do the work assigned, that's all she asks. In COM3325 course you will learn how how to conduct yourself around other cultures. I would take her again.

She is so passionate about Intercultural communication, making it a very interesting topic to learn about. The tests are somewhat difficult, but she allows a lot of extra credit to make up for a bad grade. She has definitely been one of my favorite teachers and I wish I could have her again. Having good class participation makes the class great!

She was helpful. When you ask questions she is there to answer and elaborate. Very funny and laid back but professional as well. Work is easy just need to actually do it. Test are okay but if you study more than one day you will pass.

I was engaged and learned a lot in her class. I never took a Maymester, but I'm really glad that I took it for credit. Dr. Gao held the classes attention and presented all information very well. She's very interactive. She gives you everything she expects of you in the beginning so no surprises and has multiple opportunities for extra credit.

Dr. Gao is really funny, she takes the time to get to know her students and helps them a lot with intercultural communication. She will encourage you to participate in a lot of extra credit opportunities, take them. Not only are they fun but really helpful to your college, personal, and professional development. Ask questions and she will clarify.

Complete the extra credit! It can really help if you didn't score as high on the mid-term or final as you might have liked to. I feel that this course give students a great opportunity to learn about the importance of intercultural communication. Professor Gao provides extra credit opportunities, if you do the extra credit you will find that if is fun and entertaining it inspires you to become intercultural. Most of the extra credit is on campus, I enjoyed doing the extra credit assignments.

This class was a hybrid course being taught half online and half in the classroom. It was a self-taught course as Dr. Gao expected much reading and learning to be done outside the class to prepare for the lectures. This class is one that you can easily do well in, but you have to put in the time and effort as there are few grades. Good Course.

Dr. Gao is really cool and really funny - she's very passionate about what she teaches on. There are times throughout the semester where guidelines and the general direction of the class is unclear but the material is interesting nevertheless.

In order to pass you have to read and go above for the tests and not only trust the study guide she gives you because there are also questions that dont come from the study guide that end up on the test.

She's a great professor. Whenever she gives the study for midterm and final, make sure you read it but you also have to read the book. There are questions that were not covered in the study guide. She gives a lot of extra credit, make sure to take advantage of it as it will help later on. She definitely knows her material and she's interesting.

This professor is passionate about the material and knows what she is talking about. Class discussions are a bit common sense and don't prepare you for the tests, but attendance is mandatory. Two papers and two tests make up the semester. Overall, fairly easy class

I really liked her class it made me want to learn as much as I could about other cultures. She offers loads of extra credit as well. The test can be a little difficult so read the chapters from the text book and go over her study guide. The paper you have to do also forces you outside your comfort zone though you learn a lot by doing it.

I really enjoyed the class and Dr. Gao is an interesting professor with very credible experience. Only had two tests, a Midterm and Final that were a little difficult, but she offers so much extra credit I could have flunked both and still managed a B. Don't think about -not- getting the textbook, you'll need it.

She is a very straight forward professor. She can come off as blunt or rude sometimes but you can tell she means well and wants her students to learn and do well. She gives tons of valuable info. related to COMM and everyday life. I would take her again. Read the chapters 2 tests, 1 two part paper and discussion post grades honestly so work for it.

Professor Gao makes class really fun. She is great at applying the content of what we are learning in class to real life situations. Sometimes class gets stuck on one random subject and then you don't really do anything in class. Other than that, it was a great class!

Her tests are very difficult and do not make much sense. Pretty much everyone failed the midterm. She offers so much extra credit that you should be fine. Very passionate about the class. Attendance is mandatory and the lectures are extremely boring. She gets way off topic and does not even finish the power points. Did other class homework.

Professor Gao is a very sweet professor, but almost everyone in our class failed the midterm. The tests were extremely difficult, and we often get off topic in class. Luckily though, she gives a ton of extra credit!

I took her as a hybrid. Her tests weren't easy, but on everything else I felt she was an easy grader. She gives so many opportunities for extra credit. If you want to make an A in this class you can, it just depends on how much work you want to put into it. She really cares about her students and wants them to succeed! Fun class to go to!

In this class you really don't need the book. We had 5 online discussion posts, 1 lit review, a midterm, a final and a final paper. The final paper was 15 pages but that includes your lit review. She tends to get off topic a lot and you might feel like class is a waste of time. Come to class, do the online work, study and you'll be fine.

A midterm, a final, 5 discussion board posts, and a 15 page research paper. The tests are worded in an odd way which makes doing well on them hard regardless how well you know the information, but DB posts and paper are graded favorably. Definitely take her for this class. Lots of extra credit opportunities and you'll walk away a better person.

expect to learn the material yourself. Only a midterm and a final. Big research paper but that isn't too bad, just don't procrastinate. she doesn't teach anything in class but every class you miss, you loose 10 points off your final grade.

Dr. Goa is intelligent and personable. However, I often found that the lectures lingered. But if you come to class and keep up with the work, you'll most likely pass. Plus, she offers extra credit. Her test are kind of wordy and difficult so having strong comprehension skills and using the process of elimination will be helpful.

Dr. Gao is a nice lady, but her class is tough. She does not teach in class but attendance is mandatory. There are only 2 tests and 1 big paper that you work on throughout the semester. I had Dr. Gao for Intercultural Communications. The class consisted of 2 tests, 1 huge paper, and 5 discussion posts. Just do the work and go to class (participation200pts) and you will do fine! Her class is great because she incorporates the material into real life stories from her own experiences. She is very nice and will make you laugh.

Will make you read her own work, but it's not completely boring. She does assign two papers and two tests (midterm/final). The papers have to be long, but she clearly lays out what she wants on each page. The tests are multiple choice but she gives you a list of terms to study. She sends out an attendance sheet each class. 5 easy online posts.

Dr. Gao is an excellent professor. I had fun learning in her class. There are discussion posts, 2 exams and a research paper. Gao is amazing at making your think outside of the box, learned a lot about other cultures and she was funny and awesome. Gives you a lot of chances to get extra credit if you need it. Dr. Gao is great but I have mixed feelings about the assignments. The midterm was tough, but the final was easy. The paper/interview project was very time-consuming, but not hard to write, nor did she grade it harshly. Extra credit is unlimited but only worth 5 pts each on a 1000-pt scale. The material was interesting and Dr. Gao is very funny.

Dr. Gao was definitely an interesting teacher. Shes funny, but wasnt my favorite. Her grading is very lenient but also takes off points for dumb things. For example, she took off 3 points for saying Japanese people in a subtitle instead of Japanese immigrants. Class was easy aside from the midterm & Final. Her study guide is a list of terms.

Took Professor Gao's Public Speaking communications course. She is funny and gives extra credit opportunities. However, she is a tough grader on presentations and tests and especially the final exam which is all very difficult because it does not relate to the content of her notes. She didn't really use the guidebook much.

Dr. Gao is a nice lady, but this class is way more confusing than it needs to be. Her powerpoints often have little to do with the readings and the wording of the test questions is confusing. Discussion posts and interview paper take a lot of time to write, but are not difficult. This class could have been less of a headache if organized better.

Dr. Gao is a great professor. Her lectures are interesting and inviting, and her classwork is easy to understand. She is very opinionated and teaches her beliefs as fact, but it's (usually) in a good way. She's pretty chill with students and easy to distract during class (again, in a good way). This course was super easy. There are only 2 exams (mid-term and final). There are lengthy discussions due. She gives you ample time to complete them and provides great feedback, not the typical (good post)! You do have a lengthy paper, but she gives you all the information at the start of the semester, and it's due at the end of the semester.
