If you want to teach yourself, this is the teacher for you. Her powerpoint lectures are directly from the book. She doesn't use real practical examples. However, attentace isn't mandatory. She doesn't input in the labs unless you ask questions. You do the labs on your own.
IF YOU WANT TO TEACH YOURSELF TAKE HER, SHE USES SOMEONE ELSES POWER POINTS AND TRIES TO GET TO CLASS EARLY TO READ THE CHAPTER BEFORE SHE LECTURES. BENNEFIT OF COMING TO CLASS ONTIME IS EXTRA CREDIT POINTS QUIZ AT THE START OF CLASS. IN LAB SHE JUST GETS ON LINE AND READS E-MAIL OR TEXTS ON HER PHONE SHE JUST GIVE YOU BUSY WORK
EXTREMELY UNORGANIZED,IF U'RE INTERESTED IN TEACHING URSELF BYFIELD IS THE PROFESSOR 4 U,HER LECTURES ARE READ FROM A POWERPOINT WORD 4WORD,RIGHT FROM THE BOOK,DOESNT PREPARE THE POWERPOINT HERSELF
REVIEWS ARE USELESS,REVIEW MADE B4 TEST, QUESTIONS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH REVIEW, IN LAB U TEACH URSELF NO INPUT FROM THE PROFESSOR,
Nice lady - students work in groups and "teach" each other labs. Lectures very confusing. Don't feel I learned much.
Absolutely wonderful class. Dr B has a passion for the Sciences and it shows in her lectures. I learned so much in class. Her labs allow you to work with your classmates to figure out needed information. She hands out review sheets before each Lecture exam and lab practical. Highly recommend. Must read chapters to to pass extra credit quizzes!
Dr. B was truly one of the best professors I have encountered so far at Seminole State. Her class is not easy and much studying is required. However, I have never learned so much in one semester. She really wants you to understand the material. If I could taker her for A & P II I would. It?s a shame we don?t have more professors like her.
I love this teacher! She is definitely hard but is willing to work with anyone to help them advance. She is so smart and breaks things down into simpler terms for better understanding. I highly reccomend this teacher.
Do not take this teacher...she is awful and I tried really hard in this class and studied and I failed the class...she is not organized at all and she is confusing to understand. She treats you like you are stupid and you basically have to teach yourself, and I don't like that, so if you want a teacher who is going to TEACH, don't take her.
Please disregard any of the previous comments. Dr. Byfield is by far the best professor I have ever had. Yes, it is a challenging course. Yes, you actually have to read the book. She is not a professor that just gives A's away. You have to work for it. I would recommend Dr. Byfield to anyone who actually wants to learn something about Biology.
Loves what she teaches and teaches at a novice level. I learned a great deal, she gives you all the tools to succeed, you just have to apply them. She is a must take teacher for biology.
Awesome professor! She makes it really easy to understand the material. I would definitely reccomend her for anyone taking anatomy! Wish she teached Anatomy II.
Not a particularly good professor. Her lectures are dull and she reads off power-points taken straight from the book. She doesn't seem to be able to answer questions outside of what is covered in the textbook. Her labs are disorganized and confusing. Questions on her tests are written in poor English and are hard to understand.
Dr. B is one of the best teachers! It's true, she follows the book closely with her PowerPoint, but still answers questions & explains material well. During lecture, she asks questions and reviews terms, so it's part lecture & study session. Labs are group efforts where we teach each other. It's a great way to memorize but you must participate. A&P is a lot of memorization, but between lecture and lab, Dr. B. really jump starts that process. Wish I could take A & P II with her:(
Dr. Byfield is an amazing teacher. She is extremely helpful and clear on what she wants. You can get an A if you study and complete the study guide. Mastering Biology is very helpful. She gets you involved in lectures because she wants you, and expects you to know the material. I would take her again in a heartbeat!
Great professor! Very organized. When she shows you how best to memorize everything in lab, LISTEN TO HER. She wouldn't emphasize her methods if they didn't work. Attendance is pretty essential. Lectures are based on Powerpoints taken from the book. Only negative: Her tests are unclear at times so make sure u know the ins and outs of the material.
Lectures are powerpoints that the textbook creates, labs are group work. It's hard to understand what she is asking most of the time (even on tests, her wording is off). She is of no help in the lab except at the end during review. Lectures are great for review and go to class EVERYDAY. Questions should be asked during office hours for clarity.
I could have stayed home and done the lab with my husband (who knows nothing about bio). Useless in lab. Hate that I have to teach myself in lab. What did I pay for? Yea she reviews at the end, 15 min. You think I'm going to learn in 15 min? She does not like you to take notes - WHAT????? That is what works for me... she doesn't like it.
I enjoyed taking this class with her. This class is overall hard but she helps u understand the material an goes step by step. She also gives reviews before exam which help alot do all the extra credit and quizzes I got an A anyone else can do it! Oh the lab practicals are tricky so study hard for those!
I didnt enjoy this class as much as i figured i would because dr. B is the type of teacher who must have it her way and no other way. If you are independent and are set in your own way of learning she probably wont be the teacher for you. She makes it know that she is the one who is teaching and will only answer a question that is on topic.
Dr. Byfield is good but "dry" She lectures w/ power points bc the book is overwhelming & she is very fussy about you listening to lecture & not taking notes (you can record). But most of what you need is on the power points in Sakai so just print & bring to class. If you pay attention & study you'll do fine. Doesn't seem to enjoy teaching lab!
Prof B. is awesome. I took bio with a different prof the first time and failed miserably; the second time around I took it with Prof B. and excelled. I am now with her in a&pI and class is great. prof breaks down the material making it crystal clear and easy. she also provides ALL notes and material on Sakai and review material which are helpful
She is about the best professors I ever got. Really cares about students success. Was sad when she told me she doesnt teach A&P2. If you really want to learn, is best professor to teach the subject. Very knowledgeable, professional, and knows how to teach in a very logical and simple way. Pay close attention to her summaries...they are excelent! MP
THIS PROFESSOR DOES NOT LIKE THE STUDENTS TAKING NOTES. I WILL NOT TAKE HER AGAIN, BECAUSE THATS HOW I LEARN. TOO STRICT
Doesn't teach/lecture but rather reads and skips information and tells you she'll come back to it and never does. She told our class several times it wasn't her job to teach us everything. Then spent 3 classes on one topic that was in one question the exam. I won't take her again!
She is not an easy teacher but Anatomy is not any east class. I learned SO MUCH in her class. Come to class and pay attention and you will do well. This is a class to prepare you for a medical profession so take it seriously. Great teacher and great class. LOVED her.
In all honestly this teacher is the best I had for Biology. She neatly explains it to a point where its not just memorizing, she wants you to understand the concept and process. It is not a easy breezy class, but if you study for about 2 hours everyday on the notes and the study guides (The study guides were so helpful) you can easily pass!
Dr. B was very informative and detailed in her lectures. She stressed NO NOTE TAKING in her lecture for good reason. The concepts are difficult to master, but if you pay attention, she explains well. She can get short with you if you try to get off subject with dumb comments.
Her class is not that hard but, her test are. I feel like she doesn't prepare you well enough for the test. She can be short and rude to you though if you do all your work and study a lot an A or B isn't too hard to achieve.
Worst professor ever taken.
Doesn't show you how to do things. Just reads about it and says you can do it now. Don't take her unless you like teaching yourself.
I enjoyed Dr. B she drives you to learn, so if you are not there to learn you won't like her. She takes learning seriously. She's a great teacher! Make use of her office hours, but Bio/ A&P you have to study!!!
worst teacher ever
Oh boy. So, she's an ok professor. You have a LOT of assignments to do and you HAVE to get a mentor. If not, one letter grade gets dropped. She also makes you work a LOT and have a huge presentation at the end of the semester. Overall, not the greatest professor but not the worst either.
Not your typical teacher. I felt like i had to teach myself. She gets frustrated when the class seems to not understand the work. She's not helpful at all. She was very rude. She's not very patient. I wouldn't recommend anyone to take her class! She says she wants everyone to have fun but was the total opposite!
I ended up dropping her class she make you feel like your dumb and it made me scared to ever ask her anything without feeling like she is putting me down. She is very smart but she just can't teach the material I would not recommend her for anyone. She has a bad attitude when she come in and doesn't greet her students. She not passtionate to teach
This class was hard, but that's how a science class should be. If you're not willing to work for your grade and you want an easy class, then she is not for you. But she is a really good professor and she knows how to teach the material the right way. It's not about memorization or repetition anymore.
If you are looking for an easy A don't take her!! If you want a class where you can waste your and others time, don't take her! Now if you are looking for a professor that really makes sure you and your classmates learn and understand the subject, then she is the teacher you need. I had Biology and AP1 with her. I am sad she is not teaching AP2!
DO NOT TAKE. I am a student willing to work and learn for a good grade, but she makes that nearly impossible. She is one of the most rude and condescending people I have ever met. She makes you feel stupid for asking questions. I would never recommend anyone go through her class. I was very interested in AP 1 until she made me dread the class.
She is very thorough in her teaching. She will explain a subject and then have the class repeat it later on. If only a few student are answering, she will tell them to be quiet and have the rest of the class answer to make sure everyone is thinking and understanding the material. If you miss class, you miss crucial material. She takes no nonsense.
Dr B's class is tough. However, if you are taking AP to get into a medical profession, she definitely prepares you for things you need to know. Her teaching style forces you to learn the material which is essential for beginning any medical program. I got into PTA school and am using lot of what I learned. She's very helpful during her office hours
This is my second time taking her because she really teaches you the material. She is very sassy and it's her way or the highway, but you end up truly understanding and applying the information. Don't take unless you're willing to work (like you should in any science class!!!)
terrible teacher, would not take again. humilates you infront of entire class if you ask a question or try to take notes. makes you feel like your ignorant. skips over material. does not clearly explain stuff. expect to teach your self.
Dr. Byfield's a great Prof. If you wanna learn and gain knowledge, this is the Professor. She'll stop for questions anytime and she doesn't mind repeating the explanation over and over until you understand. She only came in to save our class through the end of the semester, but had I taken her from the beginning, I think I would have done better.
For the first couple of weeks I hated Dr. B's class, but after the first test I realized I really knew the material. Dr. B is strict because she wants you to learn. If you like talking to your classmates in class, then you will hate Dr. B. If you have a question she wants you to ask her, not the person beside you. But she is very fair.
This is a hard rating for me. In the beginning I did not like her, at all. Yet, through the months she grew on me. She has a way of speaking to people, so don't let that get to you it's just who she is. You'll eventually be able to joke and laugh with her, not a lot though. You can pass the class as long as you do everything she tells you to do.
Dr. Byfield is amazing! She is blunt but that doesn't bother me, some people are just overly sensitive. She pushes her students to do their best, as a good teacher should. I would take her for A&P 2 if she taught it. She's super intelligent and makes it very interesting. It's a difficult class but I couldn't have asked for a better professor.
Offers a lot of EC. Tests aren't as difficult as you'd think IF you study. Studying is a MUST! Only annoying thing about her is that you must repeat after her in class when she says so because if not, she will put you on blast. Do all the work & study for practicals & tests & You will pass. No Textbook needed just code for mastering A&P.
Doctor. Byfield is a great Professor, she is so educated and knows exactly what you will need to know to pass all her test and Final. She is strict and straight forward and honest and wants all her students to pass with at least a C average so she is tough, but with that being said she is a great professor! Get ready to Read and don't SLACK!!
Great professor, very intelligent and wants you to do well. She is tough, and demands participation, but teaches you a great way to learn by doing so. This is not an easy class so you have to put in work, but she'll discuss any questions you have. Would take her for A&P II if it were an option.
Top notch, educated, experienced professor. The class is HARD and she is tough sometimes, but trust me--you need the push!! I can see why some people complain but trust me--participate in lectures & labs, study your guides and textbook and online portion, and you should do very well. She met with me during office hours to discuss my concerns. thx
The absolute worse, I would not recommend to anyone! She is so rude and demanding, when I asked questions in class she would always have a slick response to everything I did or say. SHE IS JUST ABSOLUTLEY THE WORST!!!!
Please DO NOT TAKE HER. You will regret. The only way you'll pass is if you teach yourself. She gives us a study guide for the test and the study guide is nothing like the test. She's rude and and condescending!! She makes you feel like you're stupid!! The labs are horrible and she wants everything done her way. Please take a different professor.
MAKES YOU FEEL DUMB IF YOU ASK A QUESTION. YOU CAN'T TAKE NOTES DURING HER LECTURES OR SHE WILL YELL AT YOU. LABS ARE HORRIBLE BECAUSE SHE MAKES YOU FEEL DUMB AND SAYS WE SHOULD HAVE READ IT BEFORE CLASS AND IF WE DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO SOMETHING SHE WILL BELITTLE YOU IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. CONDESCENDING. DON'T TAKE HER. TESTS ARE NOT FROMSTUDY GUIDE
Requires lots of reading and gives no test prep help
Very rude and unprofessional. I thought this was a college level class with a college level teacher where respect is given both ways. You can respect her and still get belittled in front of the class. Do not take this class if you want respect and a college level professor.
Usually I've no problems with any of my professors. I think it's ridiculous when a professor calls you out in class just because you're taking notes. I've never had a professor belittle me like Professor Byfield. Her tests are very hard and the study guide is nothing like the test. I would not recommend.
Ms. Byfield was awesome. There is alot of reading but if you do put in the work you will definitely pass. Her door is always open for questions. She seems intimidating but she really isnt just dont expect and easy grade.
Hands down my favorite science professor at the school. She goes over and beyond to help absolutely any and everybody. You HAVE to do the work. Do her study guides PRIOR to lectures so she can clear anything up, and ask questions if you need to. She gives EC on tests. If she knows that you care about your goals, she will as well. Truly phenomenal.
You will learn so much in this class, and believe me when I read all these reviews the first time I freaked out. But stepping into her class was one of the best decisions I've made in a long time. If you want to be a successful healthcare provider, nothing worth having comes easy. In order to save someone's life you have to put in the time.
If you want to fail and not learn anything take her...!! She read out of the power point and she is very rude..!!!! test is very hard even if you study for it. her practical 2 is hard she combined muscle and bones in one test.! ALL HER TEST IS HARD NOT CONNECTED WITH ANY OF HER REVIEW .!!! don't waste your time and money she think she's all that.!!
If you are trying to just pass the class you technically might have a harder time with her. Byfield is all about effort and participation. Do the Study guides , do her homework on time , ask questions and come to her review and you'll pass this class!!!!!!!!
I can honestly say that I havent read anything from the textbook, matter of fact I didnt even buy one, I just checked one out from the library. Make sure to do her study guides, they arent whats on the test verbatim but they do help with the general idea of what will be on the tests. She gives tons of extra credit, just make sure to speak up.
It took me a while to get used to her teaching style but once I did, and started speaking out loud in class, my grades went up. She gives extra credit and really does care about her students even though it might not seem like it. I took her again for another class and she lightened up more! Make sure to do the study guides and pay attention in lab!
I took her previously for Gen. Bio. and she was a different professor this semester. She opened up and enjoyed teaching a lot and made it enjoyable for us. Do not miss class, she doesn't grade attendance but you need the lectures AND labs to understand the material. Speak up in class and you'll do great!
shes super annoying and intimidating. pick anyone else but her.
She is the best professor! I took her for anatomy and biology. She is an aggressive teacher but she TEACHES. She always open to help and answer questions. I just wished people would take advantage of her oOFFICE HOURS. SHE IS ALWAYS THERE !
Prof. Byfield's class may seem hard, but she practically tells you how to pass her class, if you do everything that she does you will pass. She is amazing at explaining everything during the lectures, and she will help you if you ask her. Also, she does give extra credit.
Dr. Byfield is very knowledgeable and a passionate professor when it comes to helping you learn what you need to succeed. You will have to work for your grade but it is worth it. She is always willing to help you outside of class and gives you great pointers on how to become an A student. Don't be afraid to ask!! Study and you can get an A.
She can seem very tough at first, but her lectures are so beneficial and informative. As long as you study hard, participate (she will ask you questions during the lecture which actually helped me retain a lot of the information), and manage your time appropriately so that everything is turned in on time, you'll pass. Love her teaching style.
Took her General Bio and A&P I. She is well educated and experienced. She is tough but she prepares you for the harsh reality that the medical industry is HARD. She really teaches, but you MUST put in the work. She is always in her office to help and really cares about her students. She tells you how to get an A! Huge impact on my life!
Dr. Byfield is a good profesor and you will definitely learn in her class if you put the effort, however her lectures are supper heavy and (she doesnt like for students to take notes during lecture) a lot of work for her class, wont recommend her if your doing a full time job and taking 3 moré classes.
availability is no good. wont answer emails over the weekend when home works are due. very emotional and hard to follow in lectures. very confusing with how much time needs to be spent on the class. i was told 30 minutes a day personally and then zoom lectures would say 2 hours. this class is very difficult online and do not suggest it.
She is a knowledgeable, passionate teacher but she is a TOUGH teacher, and she expects you to work for your grade and put the time and effort in. Expect to spend 8-10 hours a week studying... She lacks clarity at times about assignments/test content which can be frustrating. WILL push you to become a better student!
She is the best Anatomy & Physiology teacher I had. I took her online during summer semester with this COVID pandemic. She has video lectures & give video reviews on the study guide on what you need to know for the test. She give extra credit for each unit. Her discussions are easy; just make sure you do your part and study.
Shes horrible dont take this class I promise u. Even if this is the last teacher on the list if I were you I wouldnt even take the class. SHE IS THE RUDEST MOST INCONSIDERATE PERSON. If you enjoy asking the teacher questions without any kind of sarcastic tone do not take her. She is the ABSOLUTE worst. Dont waste your time or money please.
She does not help you at all when you have a question, she just makes you feel dumb. If you need this class for a credit PLEASE DO NOT CHOOSE HER. You will not learn. Too much information packed in 2 hours and 45 min. Very strict also. Expects you to understand everything on the first day.
Worst class I've taken so far. Hardly helped with labs when we went to campus and stayed on her phone for the second day of lab. Lectures are power points and overall gave the most boring lectures. If you like asking questions don't even bother she'll make you feel so dumb. I don't recommend her to anyone unless you like tough professors like her.
Took her for BSC2093 & BSC2010. She really TEACHES. favorite professor. You have to put in the EFFORT. She is HARD but so is the health care industry. She will ALWAYS help with ANYTHING during in-office hours. Study guides and reviews are DETAILED! Her class is so organized, follow the syllabus. Taught me how to study and organized! LIFE CHANGING!
the comments on here shred her apart. Shes not that bad. HOWEVER, IF YOURE EXTREMELY SENSITIVE DONT TAKE THE CLASS. If you just want to actually learn the information and do well on exams then do take her. She explains very well. Her lectures are not boring! But heavy and you have to participate, she rants a lot about lack of participation.
She is honestly a great professor who really cares for her students. She does not tolerate lazy students though. But failing or acing the class if you are trying to put in the work, she wants you to succeed and wants to help. She has great reviews and gives lots of extra credit.
At the beginning of the semester I absolutely hated her, but I have to admit, Dr. Byfield really grew on me by the end of it. She complains A LOT about students not participating and has a very difficult attitude to get used to, but she is highly knowledgeable and I learned so much from her lectures.
She is straight forwards. Before Lecture and Lab, you must have reviewed and studied the material she tells you to study. So before class, watch the lecture video on canvas and do the study guide. It helps for lectures.
Well in the beginning of the semester she already warned us the she DO NOT LECTURE in class . she yells and belittles you in front of the whole class. If you have anxiety or depression issue I would not recommend taking this class. The way she talks to you as though your dumb will trigger those mental health issues.
Maya really cares about her students, she had many resources for her bio students. If I needed help she would explain it in a few ways that would make sense. Her tests weren't too bad but definitely listen in lecture. I can agree though if youre a sensitive person or get offended easily dont take her. She's chill but you have to be too.
This teacher doesn't teach, she posts lectures online and expects you to teach yourself. The only helpful part of class was the labs. She recommends looking at the unit layout but half the stuff on the exam isn't on there anyway. If i wanted to take an online class I would've just done that.
Do not take this professor if you do not like her teaching style which is watching her online lecture and then be expecting to ask questions on the day of lecture and the whole lab day being repetition with really no explanation. i dropped her class because it was too overwhelming. By the end of the semester 12/24 people dropped out. good luck!
I was scared to take her class because of all the negative reviews but she honestly was the most helpful professor I have ever had. I had to retake this class and it was way easier with her. Homework is person, she reviews before every test and gives you the answers to the quizzes. 10/10 take her to pass.
Professor Byfield is not a bad teacher. She is hard and you have to put time and effort into it. You earn the grade that you work for.
She does not teach, she expects you to read and watch her videos then ask questions during class, but even if she answers your questions during class, you cannot take notes, "its rude and your not listening" Labs are just holding a model and repeating the names. There's no homework so the tests are it, no chance to buffer a bad test grade.
Professor Byfield was the worst professor ive ever had. She assigns youtube videos for you to watch at home and then during lecture you can ask questions but she doesnt fully answer them. For lab you sit with a group and memorize models and when you ask for help she seems annoyed. I barely passed and I really would recommend NOT taking her class.
HORRIBLE
the worst
She is very unprofessional. She seems to forget we are all adults there to learn but gets all disrespectful in class. Yelling at people who are typing notes during her lectures.
Lectures were not the worst. I do wish she diversified how she taught and explained things, but Professor Byfield is communicative and does actively seek for her students to participate and study. However, she is against note taking and is VERY condescending, detrimental to the morale of students. Calls out, belittles, and undermines students.
Unfortunately, my experience with Professor Byfield was disappointing. She often embarrassed students in front of the class and yelled at them for mistakes. She also called students out for taking notes. This created an uncomfortable environment, making it difficult to feel supported, especially for those struggling.
best teacher ive ever had, taught me how to study. if you do absolutely everything she says to do, go to every class, and listen to everything she is telling you, you will get an A i promise. it is hard work but that is what this field is and it is preparing you
This class was ok. Her guidelines for expectations and deadlines were clear. Meetings over zoom every few weeks with some work to complete between meetings. Not really accessible out of class and very concise overall.
