She is the best Music History teacher I have ever had! She's very laid back and works with students schedules and struggles. Attendance is not required but sometimes she will randomly take attendance and give points for those who just show up to class. She's funny and adds her own twist to make learning about History fun.
Ginsberg is cool beans. Very laid back with a unique sense of humor that always seems to seep its way into her lectures. Difficulty was comparable to my high school ceramics class. DO NOT BOTHER BUYING THE TEXTBOOK!!! All necessary info provided in lectures/listening guides
Currently taking her Music of Mowtown class & it is seriously a hidden upper division gem at SDSU. maya is really passionate about the topic & the class is ridiculously easy. just go to class and take notes, do not need book. fun class, listen to music. 2 exams and she offers extra credit. highly recommend
Cool cool teacher! Very passionate about music and even more about explaining the true Motown to her students. Easy, fun and simple class. Great upper division GE. Do the quizzes and take notes and you're golden!!
Maya is one of the best professors I have taken. She is really laid back and makes you laugh a lot. Very passionate and knowledgeable about Motown music. Class consists of 10 quizzes, midterm, final. Offers extra credit. Quizzes and tests are easy and teach you a lot. I learned so much! Highly recommend and so glad I took her class.
Everyone is spot on! I highly recommend taking this class, especially with Maya. The class is not only interesting, but interactive. Maya is hilarious, and she knows her stuff. One of the best professors at SDSU!
One of my favorite professors at SDSU. Shows how passionate she is about the subject and seems to love teaching it. Highly recommend taking this class! Super easy tests and online quizzes as long as you listen to her lectures- which isn't hard to do considering how interesting and engaging the course is. Never used the textbook. Take this class!
She is one of my favorite professors. She's funny and is gives extra credit. Main thing is to actually read the book and study because the tests can be tough.
She's a very nice person and seems eager to help students but the insight she offers on the material is extremely shallow and mainly consist of awful jokes. Any analysis or depth which one tries to bring to the subject is utterly ignored and seen as irrelevant. No good if you want to learn or be challenged. But easy, so people like her.
I loveeee her! She's funny and loves what she is teaching and knows a lot. Her homework is reasonable and easy, so is her tests. Just take notes and make flashcards on vocab you'll be good. Its and easy class, if you pay attention and do things on time! :) So happy with this class!
Ginsberg is a great professor. Very sweet, very knowledgeable. This particular class was the Motown one so if you like Motown music you will love this class. Grade = 4 simple in class discussions (100pts) 10 online quizzes (500pts) & 1 midterm & 1 final (400pts). You really dont need to go to class or buy the books but its interesting so you should
Great professor- Motown class was pretty awesome. Online quiz every week on blackboard (very easy). Midterm and a final. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK- don't need it. She will give you all the information you need. Some group work. You can go to class or not. You can really pass without going. I would definitely take again.
This semester was Professor Ginsberg first semester teaching Hip Hop. Overall, I think she did a great job. Weekly online quizzes (really easy) and a Midterm and Final. DO NOT buy the book you do not need it. Tests are easy too, just make sure you know all of the songs she assigns throughout the semester. Know the title, artist, etc
History of HIP HOP was rad. Do not buy the text books. Does 10 question (sometimes less) quizzes every two lectures, very easy. Power Point slides are on black board, so if you miss class don't worry about it, most of the information you can look up if not on the slides. Funny teacher, knows what she's taking about. Easy A, very fun!
Took Music of Motown as an upper division GE class. Two tests, four simple discussion board posts, plus weekly online quizzes (which doubled nicely as study guides). Material was engaging and didn't take too much effort to study. Great class to take during a busy semester!
zzzz Less talk, more slides. Not everyone is an auditory learner. Assignments unclear. Grading takes forever.
Motown! She tries to make it fun! Although, her lectures can get boring at times, if you like Motown, you'll like the class. 10 quizzes, all easy, 4 discussions which you have to go to class for - easy, and a midterm and an exam which if you use the study guides and quizzes to study for them, it's not difficult. I'd recommend! Don't get textbook.
Easiest class I have ever taken. Do quizzes, go to in class group activities, study a day before and there shouldn't be a reason why you didn't get an A. Make sure you study vocab from power points and the quizzes you take plus the listening guides and you are guaranteed an A. She even gives extra credit after the midterm. It can't get easier.
Such an easy class! Do your quizzes on time, go to class on discussion dates, and study the day before test using old quiz questions and listening guides. Book isn't needed. Offers a few points of extra credit. Easy A!
Class was 8:00am, but Professor Ginsberg made it worth it! Really enjoyed her witty sense of humor and energy. Difficult course content, but as long as you put in effort, study, and attend class you should be able to Handel it.
Best professor at SDSU hands down. Easy A with minimal effort.
As an upper division GE elective it is super easy and fun. Quizlet has a bank with all the weekly quiz and test questions so use that. no need to buy or read the book. class is only mandatory on 4 group discussion days but those are easy full credit points by just showing up. definitely recommend this class
Only show up on discussion days and briefly study before exams. All online quizzes are on quizlet. Textbook not needed. Easy class.
This class was great, Not hard at all and the you do not need to purchase the book. I purchased it but hardly used it since everything comes from lectures. She offers online meetings instead of the discussion boards and the replies. Very hard not to get an A. Professor very knowledgeable and gives extra credit at the end. Tests are super easy.
Awesome class if you enjoy hip hop. We learned about hip hop from the 1970s all the way to present day. I enjoyed this class a lot.
Such an easy and cool class. I took Motown, and the lectures and songs are very cool and easy to listen to. Easy A if you pay attention, study for midterm and final, and complete all quizzes and discussions. Would definitely recommend if you need an elective!
Probably the easiest Gen Ed class you will ever take. Very interactive with students and is very personable. Class emphasizes the history and culture of hip hop. Weekly quizes are easy and midterm/final is manageable. No need for the textbook. Learned quite a bit about hip hop, but enjoyed the class more for the experience.
She's seriously THE COOLEST. I took the hip hop class and loved it. It's only once a week and everything else is online besides midterms and the final. You can find the answers on quizlet but it's so interesting, you already know most of the questions. I would absolutely retake this class. She wouldn't round be up one point to an A-, but oh well.
Professor Ginsberg is really nice. I had her for hip-hop & this class was sooo easy. All the answers are on quizlet. Basically show up just because she may take clicker points or have you sign in, but other than that just listen to the assigned songs, and follow the study guide. Quizlet is this class.
Attend class. You need to get the vocab and the extra questions she throws at you when people aren't attending. Motown is a great subject to learn about it's definitely different that other classes I've taken. Just 1 midterm and 1 final. If you want an A just attend every class even if it seems pointless. Randomly she will give out extra credit.
I took this class online and it was really interesting / relatively easy. No final, midterm, or papers. Just weekly quizzes, discussion board, and mini quizzes that you could take as many times as you wanted. Beware the quizzes can be challenging if you didn't listen to the songs or the lectures, but as long as you have everything open you're good
I took this class online. There is a lot of coursework for an online class, but as long as you keep up with all the work, you will get an A. I would not recommend this class to anyone who procrastinates easily. Now with that being said, this was one of the most interesting and fun classes I have ever taken in my college career. I learned a lot too.
Take this class! Wish I had more time to enjoy this class.
1. A minimum of 30 minutes of VERY INFORMATIVE power points. 2. At least two and a half hours worth of watching/filling in blank 3. 200 words discussion posts and responses to class mates 4. 200 words journal 5. A loaded listening portion with more power points 6. A reading response (15question test), 7. A 10 minute timed hard quiz TIRED YET?
I took the Motown class. I loved it!! The music was so fun to learn about and listen too. Really recommend it! Quizzes are about her lectures and the reading, and exams(2) are music identification. Easy and fun to take with friends!
I LOVED this class! I took history of motown from her and it was so much fun! You have an online quiz about once a week, but all answers are on quizlet. The music is fun to listen to and many of the artists are still alive. For tests listen to the songs and take notes about listening guides go over that a few times and you can get a 98% like me
Prof Ginsberg is pretty straight-forward on the midterm and final. You really just need to focus on the songs she told you to review for the tests and you should get an A easily. She does have weekly quizzes that are easy and some discussion boards posts for you to write. Go to class if you want participation points.
She's super funny and made the class really interesting. I never needed the textbook since the midterm and final were mostly lecture. She does take attendance and gives you extra credit if you don't miss more than 3 times. There are weekly quizzes, but they're super easy. I would definitely take another class with Ginsberg.
Quizzes are a bit difficult, but just prepare yourself for the quizzes and learning/reading assignments and you should be good. Quizzes are timed, it was only difficult because it was like 15 minutes for 15 questions. Learning/reading assignments aren't and only have 3 total attempts. Overall easy class once you get the hang of it.
She doesn't trick you on the exams. She is clear on what you should study for--the songs, the listening guides, the terms, and the facts about a song or artist. You should also set up a google doc with others. The material from the book was not on the exams so you don't need the book. There are 10 quizzes (can google) and 3 discussion posts.
This class is one of the easiest upper level GE course. I honestly didn't learn much since I already love hip-hop. Quizzes are easy and the discussions are a joke and if you study for a test you are overdoing it. Great class to take if you are an engineering student. If you can't get an A in this class, you are wasting your time and money at SDSU.
Great teaching style that is engaging. So many people that didn't go to class missed so. Many. Extra credit opportunities. Just go to clas!! Be ready to do a lot of reading and listening to music. What is nice is that all quizzes and homework are all online and due once a week which is nice for a busy student.
Take her online course! By far the easiest class I've ever taken! You can make close to a 100 if you really want.
Lectures are amazing, and the class is so easy. I fell in love with songs I already loved. Midterm, final, weekly homework quizzes, and discussion groups. You will Not regret taking ANY of her classes
There are weekly quizzes that are based on the lectures in class. She uses Course Key for attendance. I really enjoyed learning about Motown so I thought this class was one of the more interesting classes I've taken, and you can tell she loves the music too.
For tests all you have to do is read the textbook and you'll be fine for them because they are pretty easy. She also will have you go to two concerts and write a report on them which isn't too bad. She will sometimes randomly take attendance so I recommend going to class for that.
I loved Prof Ginsberg's class! I took her for Intro to Music: Classics. We learned a lot about different types of Western music and composers, such as Mozart and Beethoven. She gave a lot of background on the history of Western music, and made class very interesting. I would definitely take her again!
Shes very passionate and knowledgeable about hip-hop, and music in general. Good lectures. Weekly quizzes are easy, sometimes there will be discussion boards, also easy. Tests are multiple choice, each song gets a few questions asked about it. Title, artist and some other questions that deal with the background. You get to listen to hip-hop :)
Ginsberg is a great professor who clearly knows tons about music history. This makes lectures fairly interesting, and actually made me appreciate classical music. Tests aren't too hard but take some studying and there are two concert reports during the semester.
She is really cool and makes the class easy. There's online quizzes and discussion posts. The tests are fine because she is very helpful on what to study. Just read the music guides and learn the songs and you'll do fine.
Literally the easiest class ever. Put in 0 effort and ended with a 99% in the class. Highly recommend for an upper division GE!
This is a very easy class for a Upper General Ed requirement. It requires no homework just online quizzes. Attendance is mandatory. The test are not hard but she is a little boring as a teacher. Take this class if you like Hip Hop music.
weekly quizzes, journals, discussion posts. lectures are kind of dry. easy class to take if you don't want to go to class. kind of tedious to do all the work
Do the weekly hw, show up to class, and study a little, then youll get the A. Also, dont buy the textbook. Class was very easy and did not have a lot of work. I simply showed up to class, completed the 10 multiple choice questions every week, and got an A. Strongly recommend this as a GE course and a gpa booster. Also, prof is very understanding.
Worth the tuition!
She was an amazing person and professor. I took her for a class called "Music and Social Transformation" through the honors college, so it was definitely difficult and had a lot of assignments. However, she was super understanding and would let you turn things in late if you needed to. Sometimes the class was boring, but I loved her as a person!
the hardest GE I've ever taken. the hip hop knowledge is intense and you gotta work for it. professor gives extensions for some kids and not for others. hours and hours of videos, lectures, movies. do not take if you aren't in love with subject matter!
She is very caring and is passionate about what she is teaching. Although there was a lot of reading and writing, she gave good feedback and always made sure to discuss the readings with the class for better understanding and different viewpoints. She is very open-minded and makes her students feel comfortable. Not a light work load but worth it.
This class is unnecessarily difficult, there are unreasonable amount of expectations put on the student in this class. The quizzes don't reflect the readings/listenings, and her class time is used for group discussion on personal projects instead of using it to lecture which is counter intuitive.
Take this class! The class is made up of two weekly quizzes and a biweekly discussion post and journal. Professor Ginsberg is extremely caring and the class exposed me to more Hip-Hop artists from the 1970s to the 2000s. Study well for the module quizzes, there are plenty of MUSIC 351 Quizlets you can study. Good luck!
Took Music 351 Motown as a GE and loved it! Two quizzes (easy if you watch the lectures she provides) and a discussion post or journal entry every week. Super interesting course getting to learn the history behind Motown and the artists. Discussion posts/ journals were great as you got to talk about your opinions without being judged. 10/10 course!
Very easy class. Gives very clear instructions and deadlines for the assignments . Very passionate about the subject , you learn a lot . Would take again
i took this class asynchronously and it was okay. you have to put in more effort than you think because i skipped a few discussion posts and it knocked my grade down significantly. the book is useless the lectures are boring but the weekly documentaries are interesting. it wasn't a bad class but it wasn't my favorite
keep up with the deadlines. quizzes, journals/discussions, and lecture responses every single week, all due on different days, and she keeps them locked until certain dates so you cant get ahead :/ was failing the class at first bc the deadlines are so messed up. ended up w an A. Watch the lecture vids and take notes, easy A if you can keep up
Now this class is a trip. Prof is super funny but the exams are hard. You need to be able to listen to 20 seconds of a song and identify the name, singer, composer, and facts about the songs. The midterm covers 23 songs and there are 23 more for the final. Pretty brutal and takes a lot of studying.
Very fun class. Took it as a GE and didn't need to spend a lot of time for my grade. Weekly quizzes. Midterm and final exams are "listening" exams and must know each songs' background info as well. Discussions are mandatory; in-person discussions. Very caring and understanding professor. Highly recommend for GE or as an elective.
GOOD CLASS FOR HUMANITIES - EXPLORATIONS REQUIREMENT. I listen to rap/hip-hop so I genuinely enjoyed the topics. Interesting class and relatively easy. 1 Lecture/Reading response quiz (3 Attempts, 5-6 questions). 1 Quiz (8-9 questions 13min). Discussion or Journal every week (200 words). As long as you complete everything should be an easy A
Overall, I enjoyed Professor Ginsberg. Workload for this class was pretty heavy and LOTS of reading. Textbooks get expensive because of how many we read. She's obviously very passionate about what she is teaching, but tends to ramble on sometimes. Not a harsh grader and forgiving if you need to miss a class.
Professor Ginsberg is a very nice lady and cracks some funny jokes in class. She gave a lot of homework and was a pretty tough grader. Our final project consisted of a paper and a video presentation, but you have basically all semester to prepare for it. I think I would choose a different honors 113 class, but I did like Professor Ginsberg.
Lots of readings for homework, which can be tedious to complete. She is extremely knowledgeable and caring, but without class participation, class can be boring. The final consists of a project that she is willing to give you feedback on.
I highly recommend taking her for her Hip pop course! No formal tests- just 1 lecture quiz (with 3 total attempts), 1 quiz about the overall chapter, and a discussion/journal post each week. I'm not the biggest listener of hip hop, but the class was super easy. It took me 2 hours max each week to get everything done. Easiest class I've ever taken
Professor Ginsberg is a pretty good professor. The homework and quizzes are really easy and you do not even need the required textbook for this class. I just wished she made all weekly homework and quizzes available at the beginning of the week so we can work ahead, but other than that this class is not that bad. I highly recommend this class.
Ginsberg is a very understanding teacher. I enjoyed this class, she does her best to engage the class in discussion, and if you do, you'll have a fun time with it. You don't have to read, but I think the book was very interesting. Glad I took this.
The class structure was clear and pretty easy to follow. Every week a new module opened, so you couldn't really work ahead. Each module consists of a reading response homework, discussion board/journal, and quiz. The content was fairly easy, and most of the readings were through articles linked to the school library (don't need to buy a textbook).
Overall an easy class but she does not give good directions for assignments, when assignments are given out it is up to you to interpret the rubric. The final project had very little description of what was expected although it being worked on the entire semester. Other than that the class is easy but can be tedious.
Professor Ginsberg was a mediocre professor at best. Assignments in modules opened throughout the week; you had to wait until Friday to complete quizzes/tests; it was easy to forget since they opened at the end of the week. Says to feel free to reach out, but would not change one question on an exam that should have been correct.
Professional in the way she handles loud students who blurt out but gives me high school teacher vibes for sure in the way she runs the classroom. Just had to do 1 discussion board every week about some random topic about music but I would say the hardest part is showing up consistently to class. This class is passable going once a week.
This class is very easy but is also very fun. The workload is very light but the coursework is super interesting. You get to really understand where hip-hop came from and you even get to analyze modern hip-hop/rap, which I thought was cool. No exams or projects, just weekly homework, quizzes, and discussion boards that are pretty simple.
Easy class, Easy A. Her course was all online and assigned multiple assignments throughout the week. Her course was very structured and easy going. Just had to do discussion boards, responses, quizzes and journals. Take her for an easy A :)
Very easy A. It's an online class so there is quite a lot of homework but it is all extremely easy. If you like hip-hop you'll enjoy this course there isn't much else to say its just a great and easy way to fulfill GE requirements.
I love Professor Ginsberg I'm really sad to leave her class. She's very kind and is understanding of everyone's circumstances. Get ready to read as there are reading responses the first half of the semester. Listen to her when she says to do certain things in your project!! She does it to make sure you're not procrastinating in the end!
The easiest GE ever. All the topics are super interesting, there is weekly work but it's not bad at all. One quiz per week but it's only about 9 questions and is really easy.
Super easy course with minimal time needed to complete assignments. Quizzes were straightforward and had less than 10 questions. Watch the lectures for important vocab and it's an easy A!
Super easy course if needing a GE course! She is hands down the best professor and keeps the homework load very minimal and doable. Just do your work and pay attention to lectures and you'll get the grade you deserve.
Take Ginsberg for MUSIC 351! Super easy GE class. Weekly canvas assignments include an optional recorded lecture, a journal or discussion post, a lecture/reading quiz (all online/on quizlet), and a normal quiz (all online/on quizlet)! No final or major projects. Very simple class and an easy A. I spent 30 minutes max per week.
super good ge class for those that need it. she also communicated very well for an online teacher and instructions and expectations were super clear. workload was super light and taught me a good amount about hip hop and rap
An easy grader, nice, good with communication, and not time-consuming, overall, I recommend taking this course to fulfill your upper GE requirement. It consisted of either a journal or discussion board, two quizzes (for one, u have 3 attempts), no midterm or final.
