Worst teacher ever. She dresses like a crooked **** and teaches...oh no wait, she doesn't. She ****es and you have no idea what she's talking about. If you take this class, don't pay any attention and zone her out. However, he horrible dressing habits are hard to ignore.
best thing you could do in this class if just zone her out. dont listen. if you do, you'll end up leaving more confused than you were when you walked in. she doesnt explain things very well..at all.
This is the worst teacher in the my academic history at FIU. She does the University a serious dis-service!
I feel kinda bad for her. Because she is such an inefficient teacher. She gives us quizes that are extremely time limited. The reason? She talks during valuable test time! She needs to communicate more with her students and get off her high math horse!
She can't explain anything well. She is very unhelpful, does not let you ask questions during quizes, confuses everyone before the quizes. The most horrible teacher I have ever had ( and I've been to two universities.) She has good intentions but is very ineffective.
She is not that bad!!! Everyone hates her because of her grading skill, but still most of us got that 20% at the end. Yes, she have a DIFFERENT technique when teaching, but she does explain in an easy way, I bet no one went to her labs. If you do HW You'll be fine, just try to follow her. I think she had a style at dressing, she was cool.
Her fashion sense is the same as her teaching: in the crapper. I aced Algebra in highschool without ever studying. Basic problems have to be solved HER way, otherwise you're screwed. Unfortunately I'm stuck with this sorry excuse for a teacher. Pity me and all who "learned" from her, but do not follow in our footsteps, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD MAN!!
Ok.. she Can't teach to well if you listen to what she says and what you read in the book you get confused.her little quizes are jokes they don't help you with anything on the test. she just is a bad teacher.she need to take some education classes or somthing
Her method of teaching is very weird but she gives you a whole new perspective on the idea. and she always willing to help you with any questions that you have. her little quizes are easy and straight from your homework.
Worst teacher ever. She goes slow with the easy stuff, and fast with the hard. She teaches you things in the most confusing ways possible. She gives a rediculous amount of problems for a short time on her test, which by the way are problems that are nothing like what she taught. She adds fractions to problems just to make them even more confusing.
You have to take your time by analyzing and understanding. She makes the course as simple as it could get, but you need the time to practice.
This professor is horrible. She clearly doesn't have any experience teaching. This subject should be taught with examples problems, she teaches it like a theory course with multiple pages of written notes that make no sense. I have taken several math classes before, but nothing like this, this was a waste of my time and money. She is awful.
This teacher is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. VERY HARD! She makes this subject extremely difficult. She gives the most difficult problems and you have to solve them "her way". She makes no sense as far as expalining goes. She goes too fast on the hard stuff and really slow on the easy stuff. Oh, and she like to dress "different"....
she complicates simple things.. when people understood things, she only confused them
Don't take...makes everything way too complicated and teaches with an ego. If you don't do it her way, points get deducted. Do yourself a favor and do not take this class with her
Extremely bad, she teaches and speaks so fast you cant pay attention to her and write down her 10 pages of notes in a class. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
She has a ridiculous system. Rather than actually "teaching", she has you write out the notes as she writes them on the board, it's only after about a month that she starts to "post" them online. She writes and speaks SO FAST, that all you can do is copy and hope you understand later when you try to teach yourself what the jumble means. Take thi
She is cool and helpful. I learned alot in her class. She is hot too.

Wow. Horrible. She starts teaching before class is even supposed to start. She means well, but I don't know she can't teach. She just... talks and writes and talks and writes. Worst math proffesor the university offers. The class kinda drains you out. When class is over you don't even wanna open the book. To pass... you must teach yourself.
all she does is read whats on her notes and put it on the board and explains it. but if you dont get it ur pretty much screwed. she doesnt understand we havent done this in 2 years. for the record....SHE IS NOT HOT...i dont know what u people are talkin about her lookin good...just do the hw and understand it

Both my parents are math teachers. They looked at the quizes and the tests that were given and said that they were ridculously HARD. The teacher writes the tests and the quizes resembling english tests given in high school. "Define this, what is this called?" If you go for the looks then stay, if you went to learn, leave.
she is horrible!!! if you want to fail then take her class
Its the 3rd day of class, from what I see this is going to be tough. She went over the class time by like 10 mintues the first day of class, and she doesnt care if you prefer doing problems other ways that you have been doing since highschool. Its her way or the highway. Hw is the same amount as any teacher, but she has a ego it seems , be careful
What I like about her is that she is a HUMAN BEING, not a robot! She's a real person who understands that you don't always understand something the first time. Lectures are fast, and she is a bit tough to keep up with, but she encourages questions, and if you go to her office hours, she will help! If you want a real person, take her class.
she explains fast. is not clear. writes fast and does not wait for students. do no take her. i will have to talk the class again bc she was NOT a good teacher

she is good
really nice teacher but tuff subject that requires a lot of memorizing. I recommend if and only if you are going to do the homework if not then dont bother. Plus, hottest teacher I've had so far =)
Knows her stuff, but she thinks that she knows everything, and comes off very arrogant. Had a broken ankle and was supposed to be off of it for a week and made me come in for a test, and wouldn't let me make it up two days later, apparently she knows more than doctors. She odes explain everything very well in class
She is an excellent teacher, no need to say more!!!she is hot too
The overall class is dull, dry, and tedious due to poor teaching skills and a weak learning environment. Her communication skills are lacking, plus lecture and notes are fragmented and inconsistent. Explanation of course material is disorganized and confusing. Unable to teach new concepts to the students. Not Knowledgeable with the material.
Great teach!
Definitely not hot at all, she goes wayyy too fast and she gets mad when some1 stops her to explain further.she reads from her notes and does not follow book but sends hw from the book.the tests are really HARD, and every1 is lost in the class.
I got A's al through highschool and I have a C in her class. What does that tell you? She goes into over-explaination mode to the point of confusion. She also teaches a lot of irrelevant information and over-complicates the subject!!! DO NOT TAKE HER!!! And to respond to her cousin, yes, she's intelligent, but she CANNOT TEACH for the life of her!
She's not hot at all...she can't teach at all. Complicates simple subjects. Doesn't follow the book for lectures, but sends HW from the book. I don't know any other teachers for this class, but she's certainly one to stay away from. Not easy!
Horrible teacher! It seems like her goal of teaching is just to see how much she can confuse the student. Do not take her.
This teacher was by far the worst teacher that I have had this semester. From day one of class, I did not understand anything she was teaching. She makes things so complicated and confusing. The book is only used for homework assignments. I studied for three days straight for each exam and still managed to fail them all. DONT NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Excellent teacher
She is one of the worst professors of all time. Not just Math. She is cute, but the fact that she makes you want to pop her head off, thus a waste of time!!
I would not recommend taking Finite Math with this professor at 8 AM unless you are awake. She is a really hard professor. Oh, beware because she might tell you on the final that you cannot use the areas sheet for normal distribution problems and you need to know about binomial distribution for the final! Study super hard!
Ok...after reading all the horrible comments for Prof. Galvez I was really scared last semester. And after taking the class, I realized how immature some comments were, and how stupid I was to pay any attention to those comments. She is not bad as many people say. All you need to do is show up to class, copy her notes and pay attention to them. It
Show up, pay attention. It really helps if you do the homework (not mandatory btw..only certain times..and when it is it's not much) so you can practice for the tests. She explains very well and gives examples easy to understand. I do have to say though that there are times when the material gets more complicated, but it's a matter of paying good
she does not help students one on one, only during her office hours, which most of the time she isn't even there....assumes too much about our prior knowledge of college algebra..though, the quizzes and tests do have questions that come from her notes and homework, but they are hard to understand, its better to watch the online lectures fiu offers
Wow, I can't believe FIU has hired her! She makes everything extremely difficult! Try and take another professor, if WORST CASE scenario, take her. She loves making her students feel stupid and assumes you are a math genius. The online movies/tutors help a lot. Do all the homework, and go to class, it pays off. Learn how to study on your own!
I am really depressed. This is my last semester with a 3.6 GPA. I got an B both in Trig and Calc and am failing terribly in a 1000 level class. She is way too hard and is way overcomplicating the material.
OMG I think this is by far one of the scariest human beings Ive ever met She overcomplicates the material(learn on your own with the book even though she will test you on theorums she made up) If you try to get tutoring(other professors, center for academic success) they can't explain what she seems to be saying in the notes sends u 5 emails a day
Good teacher, a little strict, knows material very well, but im troubled by the fact she pretends through nonsense lectures like she doesnt.
Good teacher just goes in to deep with her teachings and sometimes make it seem more complicated then what it really is. It is easier to learn from the book. Must do homework and takes a lot of time!!!
The impression she gives off is that she is a hard professor, she isnt. If you have time to meet with her during office hours or are able to schedule time with her to meet in class early you will do well in her class. notes come straight from the book though she analyzes them a little more. Great teacher! Take her if you want to learn.I got a B.
Very helpful, great at lecturing, she is pretty funny if you get to know her. 65% or higher to get a C in her class and she gives extra credit. Need i Say more, take her shes the best you'll get a guranteed A/B.
She does lecture a bit fast for me (i'm a little slow with math), but nonetheless she's fair. Kinda hard to concentrate since she's pretty cute. If you study the sections in the book and understand the HW you will certainly pass. Fun teacher too, she can come off rather cold but she is not! Extra credit is a plus too.
She goes WAYYYY too fast. I basically taught myself everything. I had to work a lot harder and put many more hours into the class because of this. I ended up with a B+ though.
HORRIBLE TEACHER! I had a different professor & halfway into the semester she comes along! She moves super fast & looks at you like "You should know this!" I wouldn't advise anyone to take her! I hated going to MAC 1105 once she took over the class.
Overall, she is just an average teacher. She does teach very quickly, and she does over-analyze some points. Her knowledge of the subject is a little iffy since our class corrected her over 20 times during the class. Don't bother e-mailing her either, because when you ask when the tests results will be ready, she will say "when they are ready."
Don't pay attention to the bad comments about this professor. Come to class, do the home quizzes, do the homeworks and you will pass her class. She is very helpful!!
If you come to her class you will pass without problem. THe home quizzes are sometimes similar to the tests. Study the home quizzes, do the homeworks and you will pass her class with a good grades.
This profess is NOT THAT terrible. She does give alot of help during her office hours and teaches everything that will be on the tests, problem is it's alot but c'mon it's math. She likes for students to ask questions.
HORRIBLE TEACHER EVER!!!!!!!!! Gives alot of work!!!! her test are very hard! i dont recommend her!!!!!!!!!
HORRIBLE!!! The Professor talks to you like your stupid and is really bad at assisting the students for help. Goes way to fast and doesn't go by the syllabus...Also, you never know when the test is until a week before, she is just not a good professor I would advise you to pick someone else. I did get a B+ in the class but I had to study like crazy
A lot of people had trouble in her class, her tests were about 7 difficult questions, but they were just like the examples she put on the board. A lot of homework, not mandatory, but if you looked over the odds you'd be fine. She teaches so you understand and not memorize math. Awesome teacher if you're looking into anything to do with the field.
She is one of the worse professors? I?ve had since entering FIU. She speeds through the material and does talk to you as if you are stupid and her homework?s are extremely long they are about 100 problems, so you stop trying and get left behind. The only good thing about her class is her hot ass! Ands that?s no reason to fail.
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! SHE IS NOT HELPFUL AND TREATS PEOPLE AS IF THEY ARE RETARDED WHENEVER THEY ASKED HER A VALID QUESTION. EXTREMELY DISCOURAGING...
She is a good teacher and you should pass the class if you go to class everyday. If you don't you'll get lost. The test are pretty aren't to bad. The final is was kills everyone.
I dont know why so many people have left her negative comments. She's a great professor and extremely helpful, she tries her best to make sure you understand whats going on but she's not going to sit there and baby you. If you study, go to class and do the homework there's no reason why you shouldnt pass her class with a good grade!
this teacher is the most useless teacher i have ever seen. she writes on the board at super speed and if you cant keep up writing imagine trying to understand it! she brags about how 70% of her students drop her class. 40 students were in this class now there are only 17. FIU PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT HER
She's a good teacher. She goes real fast but she makes sure you understand. Her tests are exactly like her homework and in class explanations. She is extremely helpful when you go visit her during office hours. I am grateful i took her class.
First off I don't see why people find her even remotely attractive ! She makes the students write extra information that has nothing to do with the actual problems we get tested on. She doesn't take her time to actually answer questions. She also has a habit of putting people down if they don't understand. Made the class super difficult ...
AVOID! Teacher is not helpful at all! She assumes your previous knowledge of Algebra. Hah zero to NONE office hours. She teaches part-time only! She is honest with you upfront and lets you know only 26% of the class will pass the class! AVOID!! AVOID! Don't waste your money and time, choose another teacher.
I had a big problem with the way she just went into teaching the material. She teaches it in all variables from the start and no one understands it. I personally understanded it when i studied on my own
RUN!!!! if you like math you will hate it when you take her class.grades tests on a weird scale and gives no clue to how much anything is worth. The highest score on an exam i think was 67! This is coming from someone who got an A in CHM 1046! To protect my GPA and the fact i learned nothing,I dropped her CLASS!!!
although math is one of the hardest subjects for me, she made some time to help out and tuttor before class. She is hard but fair in her grading. Do not assume easy is the word but math never is.
unfortunately, the worst!!
take someone else. All this lady says is "you should know this its algebra" so annoying and just expects you to know everything. and her test are only like 4 questions and doesnt tell you whats on it or nothing close to the HW. Only geniuses who can teach themselves will pass with her.
Great professor, i got a C in the class only because i didnt pay attention in the beginning. Her tests come straight from the notes and practice problems she does. Review quizzes/notes before tests and you'll do fine. She's very nice and understanding and grades extremely leniently. She'll give points for almost anything, just try!
This is a pretty hard subject as it is and she doesnt make it any easier. You kind of have to teach yourself a few things because she does an okay job at it. Homework is big in this class because her tests are straight from her homework. You can easily pass by really doing the homework and studying it alot, thats what I did and I got an A
Great professor, explained everything clearly and would go back if anyone was confused. She is a little intimidating but nice. Her tests were a bit hard and she graded harshly but I managed to get a B anyway
She is really hard to understand and make the subject even harder. you MUST do all the homework if you want a good grade. STUDY !!!
It's obvious her knowledge of the subject matter and her capability to teach it is extraordinary, but she can - and most often does, at least to me - carry an aura of surliness which probably causes many students in class to feel too discouraged/intimidated to ask questions. Basically, she responds to ALL student's queries with a patronizing tone.
Run away. She talks down to people and uses the excuse of "you should know this from Algebra". She will not spend more than a few seconds going over something if you ask. Also, her rate of speech is is around the speed of light. Tests are about 5-7 questions and very selective.
Study from her notes, don't bother with the homework unless you want to understand other examples. There are 4 exams, each exam with 4questions, and a final with 8questions. If you go to class, study fairly on notes to the point that you can do her examples, you will do fine.
Professor G, is amazing! She takes her time explaining everything thoroughly, she is funny and you can ask her all the questions you want. The tests come right off her notes, aslong as you go to class and pay attention and study her notes, you are good to go!
Listen, Prof Galvez is an AMAZING professor. It all depends on the effort you put in. If you go to her for help, she will help you!! Those of you saying she was horrible probably didn't even know she had ofice hours! I went to her and receved an A. GREAT professor!!!! TAKE HER!
No. Just no. If you can avoid her, please do so. Great person, terrible teacher.
Great teacher. She has a sense of humor. And for someone that hates math I seemed to get it in her class. Now, if you don't take the time to study from her notes don't expect to pass. Exams are literally examples from class notes. She's very helpful and answers any questions you have in class willingly. Hw isn't mandatory but it does help you.
Run as fast as you can, she s a know it all, but doesn't know how to convey it, makes remarks all the time as how FIU doesn't t give reviews to students, she thinks that Algebra is for just a few who deserve it.
Professor Galvez is so sweet! She thoroughly explains her examples but she does go fast!keep up with her! Always allows Qs if you dont understand the material. ALWAYS take notes from the board!! AND pay attention so you understand it! Her exams come straight from her notes so make sure you write them down and understand them!
This professor is absolutely the most useless person to have teach math. She should be teaching in M.I.T or Yale. Instead she insults her own intelligence and teaches at a community college. Johannes Kepler was one of the most brilliant minds ever in astronomy, yet he is considered amongst scientist as one of the most incompetent professors ever!!!
Her lectures were in depth, and she was always around after class if anyone needed help. Her sessions after class were terrific and she always made sure we understood what she was teaching. Great teacher, and I could tell that she loved what she did for a living. Will be taking her again for cal 2
Professor Galvez is tricky to rate. On one hand, she is a great person and has a nice sense of humor. On the other hand, she seems a bit full of herself and has a propensity to talk down to others. The class itself was pretty challenging I thought but I'm bad at math. Homework was not necessary but it helped. Tests were pretty hard though!
Great professor that is invested in her class. Goes the extra mile to help us learn the material and encourages questions. This aint high school kids, put in the work and go to her office hours and you'll do fine.
Professor Galvez is a great professor. She has passion for what she teaches. She will answer any questions and makes you feel welcome. Remember this type of class is where you have to put alot of effort. She offers office hours and does her best to help the student. It is up to the student, if they get involved and dedicate time to material.
Took her in the Summer and I can honestly say she was the best math professor I have had in a long time. If you take advantage of her office hours and do your hw, an A is very possible. She's extremely helpful and understanding. Tests are exactly how she says they are, and can be pretty tough. But with office hours help you should always do well.
Very organized and patient when giving lecture. If anybody asked a question he would be as thorough as possible. Quizzes and homework are online. Exams in person but were consistent with the material. Not too much of an easy grader but not too picky. Gives extra credit! FInal grade was a B and i completely hate math.
She is very nice but that does not come cross passing her class. She can be confusing . At first , it seemed like she didn't care but when she start seeing people failing, then she wants to be helpful. Study for her exams. Now I know, ALL her exam questions comes straight from the notes. If you study the notes , you will be Fine.
If you really hate math and don't understand it, STAY AWAY FROM THIS LADY. She talks really fast and when you ask her to explain something, she just says the same thing she said in the beginning. She does give reviews for the test but there's alot of steps to remember which just makes everything even more confusing. I had to drop her class.
She has office hours which you should go to because asking a question in class won't help. If you do she responds with "What don't you understand?" Moves pretty fast and expects you to grasp concepts the first time. Not the best teacher, but ok I guess.
She is an awesome math teacher. she explains everything well. she doesn't really go that fast. Anyone who complains don't take the effort to stop her ask questions. her English is perfect. If you want to pass,Take her!!!
I felt that she was not very good at making topics easy to understand or at clarifying. Her responses to our questions in class were short and left me more confused than before. However her notes on the board are very specific which is good. I feel that she could be an excellent teacher if she put a little more compassion into teaching.
Good teacher. goes through material specifically and likes to have practice problems done in class. Very nice. 4 exams, Final replaces lowest test score. Exams are simple. If you like step by step mathematics take her. Every little step must be shown in exams.
Ugh...terrible teacher. She tries to over-complicate everything and is an extremely strict grader. The material is all jumbled up and it's hard to know what to study for as you going to chapter 5 to chapter 7 to chapter 6, etc. She's terrible at answering questions as again she over-complicates and makes you more confused than before.
Ms. Galvez is a good professor but in order to pass you have to do the homework and study the examples she gives on the board. And if you're still confused she'll will help you after class and her office hours.
Her lectures are very clear, write down everything she writes on the board. If you do all the HW she gives in class she will give you extra credit on the exam. Do the online HW before the exam it will help. Going to office hours is what helped me get an A, she is there for her students. You need to put work into this class, it won't be an easy A
The class itself is very confusing because of the material but she tries to be as precise as possible and she does care if you pass. She is great at exlpaining and shes also very nice. Her tests can be tough if you dont go to class or dont pay attention. It was 4 exams, replaces lowest with final if its higher, includes homework, plus extra credit
I took mac1105 with her and i failed the class. It's confusing and boring. I couldn't understand nothing and her reviews are different than what she gives in the exams. Don't take her if you are not good in math.
I took this class Fall 2014 and she was a great professor. She lectures a little fast but you can stop her at any time. The online homework she gives is almost identical to the exam, so make sure you do it. She genuinely cares about her students and is always willing to help during office hours. I passed the class with an A. I highly recommend her.
An excellent teacher that treats the class very seriously. You will gain a strong and comprehensive understanding of calculus. But beware, the journey can be painfully difficult. Her grading policy makes 'A's possible even if her difficult exams makes you think otherwise. Overall, I love this teacher and would gladly take more classes from her.
Professor Galvez is a phenomenal teacher. She teaches at a fast enough pace to keep you on your toes, and she provides numerous examples for EVERYTHING you do. If math is not your strong suit or if you are softwhiny- I don't recommend her for you. Tests and grading is intense, but so are the extra credit opportunities. Finally, she is very kind.
She was honestly one of the best professors I've had for math. I came into the class thinking that Trig would be difficult and she made each topic easy to understand.
She's an amazing professor. If you don't understand something she is willing to go over it again. I would definitely take her again. She also gives extra credit and the hw is pretty easy. Also, as long as you pay attention in class you should be able to get an A or B on the exam. There are no quizzes in class but they are online. I recommend her!
Prof Galvez is an excellent professor for students who aren't so great at math. She makes sure everyone is understanding before moving forward and always answers questions without making you feel dumb. She goes out of her way to provide help after class and quickly responds to emails. 5 exams and final replaces lowest, HW counts for grade
Tough grader, if you don't follow her way, she takes points off. She rushes throughout her lectures when they are about an hour and forty five minutes.
She is super nice, practicing the material will allow you to do great!
Her lectures are fast. She covers a lot of material in one class but her tests are like the problems in class. Do the reviews that sends the links of and then ask her questions in office hours. Its how I passed Pre-cal with 100 percent in every test. I would definitely take her again.
My biggest problem with her is that her tests questions usually don't have any resemblance to the H.W and quizzes, she manipulates the problems or adds fractions to problems that most of the class hasn't seen before. Unless they went to an outside source to see these different problems. Personally I wouldn't recommend her to anyone.
She is by far the BEST math professor I've ever had. If students complain, it's because they don't go to class. It's important to show up to class because she covers a lot of material, if you go through the notes, and go to office hours you will do great. But if you don't put in the time you're gonna have a bad outcome. I think she's amazing!
Prof G. provides you with the tools you need to get an A. The homework and quizzes are on MyLabsPlus and are worth 15% of your grade. Before each exam she provides you with practice questions from the textbook and exams are covered in there. If you spend a day or two to go over them before each exam you will pass with flying colors. Lots of E.C.!!!
Ms. Galvez is one of the best math professors at FIU without a doubt. She wants you to pass her class. Honestly I am not the best at math, however she breaks down the problems to a point where it is easy to understand. She talks a bit fast but you will get used to it by the middle of the semester. p.s She gives a lot of extra credit.
She is a mediocre teacher that does not give anything insightful to our understanding of mathematics. You will understand her lessons however, and you will pass the class. However she has a terrible problem of posting the homework late, THIS WILL JEOPARDIZE YOU, it will annoy you, and she won't fix it. Her teaching style is constantly changing.
I took this class Summer B and she was a great professor. She does go fast but you can stop her at anytime and ask questions. Her explanations of the concepts are really good and gives great examples. There is HW due every week and quizzes. If you are having any problems go and see the TA who is very helpful especially for the 3 exams and final.
Professor Galvez is a great person but is not a great communicator. Also, she won't give you full credit, assuming that you arrived at the correct answers, on your exams unless you use her "methods." Good luck finding her at office hours (she rarely shows up)!
She's a teacher you either get or you don't. In the beginning her class can be difficult but if you study the lessons before class you'll understand more than just listening to her lectures. She gives work & mini quiz so do well on those to bring your grade up. I failed one test & the final exam but ended up with a good grade so she's not too bad
She is not good enough to be an FIU professor. She knows the material but she is not organized. Changes dates of exams for every single one. Says she will give daily quizes but sends them whenever she feels like it and confuses everything. Gives extra credit for exams and if you beg for a week or more may open the hw to study for exam. Not good.
Isn't very personable but very caring. All you have to do in this course is FOLLOW YOUR NOTES . You can get a A by just studying everything she writes on the board and it is usually the same types of questions on the exam. GO TO HER TUTORS. She talks fast and her tutors turn her fast, confusing lectures into something you can understand.
She is very fast yes, but she is willing to give absolutely any opportunity you need to pass the class as long as she knows you care. Her tests come directly from her notes, and will help you further more in her office hours. She does move test dates back but only when she feels like she needs to further explain for us to do good on our tests.
If you value your GPA, I suggest you do not take this professor. She speaks so fast it makes it hard to get a grasp of what she's teaching. I've witnessed students ask her to slow down and her respond "you're just going too slow", as well as ask the class "who understood this?" and watched her continue after only 4 or 5 students answered.
She is a really good teacher it is just that Business Calc is really hard period. I had to retake take it 3 times with 3 different professors but I finally got a C with her. She knows all the material really well and DOES want her students to pass. She does go a little fast, but I think that is the departments fault. Tutoring is really helpful.
Professor Galvez is not only a good professor but a caring person, she treats you as an individual and not just another student. She is available nearly after every class session so you may come to her office and ask any questions you have on the lecture. Calculus was extremely difficult for me but she made it better. I recommend her. 5 STARS!
I took CALC with her fall semester and didn't pass and retook it again with her and got a B+. You just really need to focus and study. You won't pass if you don't study. Her tests are straight from her notes. If you do all your homework and study her notes there is reason why can't get a B in the class. Shes also willing to help you.
gave lots of extra credit and lectures are very clear. easily understandable. it's worth to take her
if you want to have a strong base for calc then take her. lectures are easily understandable
I loved professor Galvez. I had taken her class once before without truly appreciating what she offered, so I didn't pass. Her exams are heavily based on the textbook examples and those she gives in class. And if she see's you genuinely trying, she will make an attempt to help you out. She's a very very good professor, especially given the subject.
Best professor for Business Calc!!!! Go to class and take notes, because her tests come all from her notes. If you do the work, you are going to be successful in this class.
Galvez is a great professor, you have to have a solid calc background and know your basics. The exams come straight from the applications she does in class and from the paper she gives you in class. Would take her again
Galvez is great, just know your basics.
I took her for Precal in the Summer, shes a great professor but goes fast (theres a lot to cover). Helps to know the basics of algebra (if you took a break from math you might struggle like I did). Helps a lot during office hours. Her tests are not multiple choice. TESTS ARE WEIGHTED HEAVY (75%). 3 Tests/final/ A lot of hw & quizzes. Ask questions
business cal is already a difficult class, she doesn't make it any easier. 5exams-structure nothing similar to the hw she gives. every class students would ask her to work a problem out, repeatedly declined to do so. honestly, this prof should be reported. teaching style isn't good at all. hw problems w. 7steps each. don't take her unless have to
She lectures the entire time period and sometimes a few minutes after. She goes very fast in her lectures, gives lots of homework (paper and online) and weekly online quizzes. Her tests (which are 4 plus a final) have some multiple choice but mostly problems to work out. I used mostly youtube videos and the book to teach myself the material.
She's a bit difficult to understand and sometimes rude. I didn't get a few concepts and when I went to office hours I still felt like a complete idiot. Sabotaged everyone by assigning homework in the middle of spring break and not telling anyone. If you didn't keep watch you didn't get credit. Impossible to reach through email. Tutor's good tho.
Professor Galvez has high expects three things from you: show up to class, participate, and do the homework. All of her exams come from the problems she goes over in class. As long as you study your notes you won't be surprised by anything you see. For the final exam- DO NOT NEGLECT YOUR APPLICATIONS. If you think she won't test you on them- wrong.
The exams come directly from the notes and application problems she gives you in class. So dont even bother trying to study the homework for exams, the homework is 10x harder than what she teaches in class. If you study your notes before each exam you should get an A on it. Overall pretty good teacher, just doesnt like to explain things twice.
This teacher was not for me.
Professor Galvez knows her material and gives a lot of extra credit; however, if your strong side is not math, this is not the right choice for you. Tests come directly from notes, but mastering everything in a short time can be hard, mostly if you are a procrastinator.
Professor Galvez puts so much effort and care into her students, which makes la difficult class do-able. She gives out extra credit and explains things thoroughly. She is very passionate about what she does and genuinely cares about her students passing! She does give a lot of hard homework, but the practice helps. And the test are much simpler!
Instructor Galvez was a nice. But, if you haven't taken calculus before, you will definitely struggle with her. I took calculus before and it took me awhile to get used to her more complicated way of teaching things. However, she gave really good extra credit like 20 + points, so if you have a good calculus background take it with her & use her TA.
This Professor is terrible. She gives way too much homework and not enough time to complete it. Her tests are 5 questions more or less, making it easy to fail. Overall terrible teacher.
She will send you homework due before class on the day it is due, almost everything is assigned last minute and before she goes over a subject. Homework is helpful but you may often not have enough time to do it. During Corona, she assigned things on Sunday at 7pm and due at 11:59pm that same day. She does go over material VERY THOROUGHLY.
I would suggest to run if you hear this professor's name. Extremely rude, publicly embarrassed a student in a mass email to all classes. Not accommodating at all to students, even in times of corona virus. Very last minute and says oh well if anyone misses the assignment, she posted the answers to our tests the night before our final at 9 pm!!!
find another professor, this class is hard already!. She was great then she switched up in an instant. Very rude, not accomodating, doesn't respond to students as a teacher should, hates being questioned. In this pandemic, she has put us under pressure with back to back homework and exams only a few days apart. She is smart but not a good teacher
This class is super hard. Honestly, I got my grade by going to the TA who is extraordinary! I got taught every topic by him, make sure to use him if you want to pass. Otherwise, I would have failed. Overall, too much homework, boring class, and no patience for her students.
Bro congrats to the TA, he saved my money and semester. In terms of the class, I did not like it at all. So much homework, hard exams, and a teacher that gives you a third exam literally the class before the actual final. I will avoid it in the future.
She will ask who got this right in the class and no one will raise their hands in class. Then, she will keep on lecturing. Save some money and take another professor. The TA taught me everything and it is due to him that I passed. That guy is a gem and truly genius! If only he could teach instead.
Try to avoid it! I had never done badly in a math class before. For real, this TA deserves heaven and more, with him I no longer felt that they were speaking to me in another language. If you want to maintain a high Gpa don't take her!!
I took her during the Spring of 2020. She was a good professor in person, she does go over things very thoroughly and you will need a solid foundation. Take good notes and you will be able to pass her tests since most of her test is based on her lectures. Also, always do the extra credit, it's pretty much an easy 10 points on the exam.
She is VERY rude. If you question her youll receive a very rude answer. Doesnt care about her students even with the covid, not understanding at all. Give tons of homework and doesnt go over them properly. Talks too fast, hard to keep up. This professor gives me Im amazing and yall arent vibes and Im not here for it. Wouldnt take again.
Part 1. Oh, boy I have been waiting to write this review. This will be a three-part series or two, who knows. Now I want to say, that I get this is an online class because of COVID. I get that, I do. But considering how you as a professor are still obligated to teach your students basic math to pass your course, you failed. Miserably.
Part 2. You failed to genuinely teach us the basics. I speak for myself, but I know that the other students feel the same way. You cannot teach. You send us 1-3-hour pre-class video lectures to watch the day before class. You started doing this I believe 3 weeks into class. Not to mention you only spend 15-20 minutes of the class actually teaching
Part 7. If you do not pass these exams, you cannot pass this class. And she won't help you, which leads me to my final point, emails, and help. Don't bother sending emails to her. I have sent two both after each exam. The first time I emailed her, I got the vaguest response you could imagine. And instead of addressing me, she sent an email for all.
Part 3. And then you send us to do in-class work that you do not grade! Every week you give us in-class and pre-class assignments that you don't or barely grade. The pre-class assignments are Part A of the homework, a pre-class worksheet, and a content reflection. Each worth two points. They don't help your grade much. That's the other thing
Part 4. The pre-class and in-class assignments are posted/graded on canvas. Not on the main grading system, she uses MyLabsPlus dot com, So you don't even know if they go to your actual grade. While we're on the topic of grading, let me mention the quizzes and homework. They barely, and I mean barely, move your grade up
Part 5. For example, I did homework and a quiz got an A on both. My grade went up .01% Your system of grading makes it so that all the extra freaking work you do, counts for barely anything. That leads me to my next point, your exams. There are a total of 5 exams and the final. To this date, I have taken two and failed both
Part 6. In the first exam, I took my grade was at 92.14% after I failed the first exam, my grade went from a 92 to a 78. That is a 14 percent drop and after that even if I got an A o every homework and quiz (which I did) my grade never left the 78 percent. Nothing helps, not the quizzes, homework, pre-class homework, not even the math lab hours
Part 8. The 2nd time I emailed her was after the second exam asking what can I do. That was last Tuesday. She hasn't responded and it's been a week. From her lack of enthusiasm, caring, and will to work. She is by far the worst math teacher I have ever had. Do not, under any circumstances take Professor Galvez class. Please, save yourself trouble
This might possibly be the worst math teacher I have ever taken in my career. Galvez will ask if students understood the problem, no one will say yes, and she will still move on. She does not care if students understand what she is teaching. Galvez teaches like students have been studying this subject for the last couple years. Save yourself.
Instead of teaching during the lecture, she will bombard you w/ pre recorded lessons to watch on top of all other stuff due. Her lectures confuse the class bc she complicates the most simple concepts. Prepare 2 teach yourself everything. & Be nitpicked on what you turn in. To her, it's as if ur one life purpose is to complete her assignment. A joke
Professor Galvez assigns three assignments before class, one in class, and two after class (including a quiz) and none of them will help your grade. If you fail her tests and do amazing on the other assignments you will still fail the class. Did pre recorded lectures that were an hour long and barely covered any material. Save yourself the time.
Exams count way more than hw. A 77% on the 1st exam brought my grade down to a C and took the rest of the semester to bring back up. Took a week to respond to emails from multiple people asking her to fix the prereqs on an assignment on MyLabsPlus, and then gave us only two days to complete it. She knows if u answer live poll w/out being in class.
EXTREMELY confusing with her explanations; overcomplicates the simplest of concepts. Dont bother emailing her -she'll either not answer you at all or respond once its too late. When you think you're starting to understand her, she goes off on a tangent & you wind up getting lost. Better off teaching yourself-only reason I passed.
I took this course for the credits and just to complete my math requirements and it is something I regret the most. When grading she will become the most meticulous and over-detailed person because if you don't show how one variable became another she'll mark off points in an instant.
Prof G actually wants you to pass. She's aware that the classes she teaches are difficult, so she tries her best to help you get a good grade, especially with extra credit. She gives pre & post EC assignments for each exam and the final replaces your lowest exam. Obviously, she expects you to do your part, so as long as you do, you should pass.
Honestly she was exceedingly difficult for no reason. She kept going and going, but never really said anything clear. When she asked for questions, the whole class was so confused that we had no idea what to ask.
DOES NOT GIVE GOOD FEEDBACK .. horrible start idk man
I would HIGHLY recommend waiting until the next semester to find anyone else teaching this course. She will take off 0.3 points if your answers aren't worded to her satisfaction. Miss Galvez doesn't give useful feedback, and she sends emails almost daily about her personal grading progress. (Grades take 2 weeks if you get them at all).
You have about 7 *tedious* homework assignments due every Th&Sun. There are "optional" exam reviews which are graded. On exam weeks you not only have your weekly assignments due but a project too. Also very important note for those of you working full time & taking this class fully online, you have to reserve a time for the exams during work hours.
Stay away if you can. She wouldnt grade things until after you took the test (which is kind of pointless). Many many assignments that arent worth much of your grade. You have to register for test times with Pearson (proctored). She had in syllabus that she would be removing a quiz grade but later said a lab coordinator created the class. No sense
This teacher needs to learn the difference between the math she teaches, and a reading glass. She grades MATH homework like English homework. You could get the correct math question, but since you did not word it write, she will not grade it well. She grades by the decimal point. Do not take her. Just hold this class for another professor.
She's good. Explanations can be a little foggy sometimes but she offers A LOT of outside class tutoring opportunities. She has a tutor only for the class, and you can literally go every day after the class to tutoring. She does a thing called pre and post tests which are 30% of your test grade, plus you get a 7% curve, and only need 45% to pass.
Theres a reason why her class has so much availability. She over complicates a subject thats always complicated. Lots of MML hw, mandatory attendance sign in plus attendance problem each class to prove you were there, random rant emails at all hours, rude, dont teach or lecture. Uploads generic math department packets then belittles the packets.
Contrary to her ratings, I think Professor Galvez is a pretty good professor. She takes her time on each topic and is always open to questions. If you understand the homework, you will pass. But be prepared to prioritize MAC2311 over any class. Only thing I would say is that she expects you to know pre-calc and trig like the back of your hand.
She is a really harsh grader you might have something right but if it’s not in the formant that she wants it and she’ll mark it wrong. She gives pre class, in class, like 2-3 math lab assignments and a quiz every week
It's a difficult class indeed, her class may sometimes feel confusing, but you also need to just put in the work. If you do, then you will be fine. Her extra credits help you A LOT for the tests so it is very good to take advantage of that. You can raise your test scores by up to 30% by just doing it.
DO NOT TAKE. She over complicates everything. Math, especially Calc for Business, is already a hard class and she changes the work from the textbook and over complicates it just to make it harder. IF you don't write something her way or solve a problem her way, you lose points. AGAIN, DO NOT TAKE HER
She is not good at explaining. She makes all the hw and takes attendance based on whether you can complete the daily practice problems so if you don't know how you are out of luck. She had some past recordings and tutoring, but she stopped posting them halfway through the semester. If you take her, good luck as u have to basically teach yourself
Homework due same day as lectures so if you forget you're out of luck cause there's also no make ups. Lectures are all over the place and fast paced so if you don't understand a concept you are definitely not going to understand the lecture for the remainder of the class.
Her lectures were rushed but it was because we had 50 minutes of class time. I would suggest going to office hours and meeting with the tutors if you take her. The final replaces your lowest exam and she gives pre & post extra credits for each exam.
So yes the attendance is mandatory, but someone can easily sign you in. Also, so much extra credit. Up to 30% of extra credit to be added to each exam (done out of class) plus extra credit problems on the exam AND the exams are graded on a curve. Honestly it's impossible to fail this class.
This teacher is the WORST. She assigns homework about stuff that we haven't learned yet and expects us to get it easily. Do not take her if you need Calc 1 credit. I assure you there are much better professors at FIU for Calculus 1 compared to Professor Galvez.
Professor Galvez is an okay professor. She definitely is not the best, but there are definitely worse. Her grading is a bit confusing because she wants the work done the way she does it. If your background in math is poor you will find this class difficult. You only need the Pearson textbook for homework, she provides worksheets.
-you will learn through play-posits -she will not teach it how you learned it i promise -rude and condescending to students who don't understand the material -un-empathetic toward mental health and medical issues -difficult tests (says something won't be on it and then it is) -doesn't curve while the other teachers do (20%) -RUN FAR AWAY FROM HER
Very specific and sometimes even harsh grading criteria, but attending the lectures is helpful. She has an alternative way of teaching but after the first few lectures its worth getting used to. Pre and Post tests are grade saviors for someone not too good at math.
Hard for no reason, doesn't explain anything, expects you to know things before even taking the class. Even if you get the questions right on the homework, she takes points off if you do mental math and don't write the step clearly or if you miss an equal sign.
She's so funny actually. It's a hybrid class so she expects you to watch the playposts so you have an idea of whats going on then she goes over it. She makes up her own math rules so the TAs are very helpful in figuring out what is going on. It's easy to pass and you don't need to be good at math.
I naturally am really bad at math but passed this class with C+. she gives a TON of xtra credit. TAKE IT. the subject is difficult but she makes it possible to pass, those complaining were to lazy to do the work. DO THE POST TESTS, they HELP A TON. only downside about her is that she does NOT answer her emails. Just study and do the work
Hybrid class. Galvez is a WONDERFUL teacher. Her class is very well organized, from the first day you know when to submit the assignments, so it is very easy to organize yourself to do it. She gives 3 exams and a final exam, each one has a guide with the answers. If you like math and you know how to organize your time, you can easily get an A.
TAKE HER! My best advice is take this over the summer because there is no final and doesn't cover all lessons. Take advantage of post exams they add 30% to your exam. Study, ask questions, go to office hours, take advantage of tutoring after class. She's very caring and wants you to understand. Don't be scared to ask questions. Good luck.
I am 6 weeks into the semester and this is by far the biggest mistake I have ever made. This lady shows up late to every single lecture. No joke every single one, sometimes by thirty or forty minutes. She is very condescending and goes on bizarre schizophrenic rants during lectures about Electromagnetic frequencies. Avoid her like the plague.
Prof Galvez makes a tough math class manageable with plenty of extra credit and grading curve. unstuckstudy was a big help for study prep along with the tutoring sessions. Tough, but passable if you put in the work.
This professor overcomplicates lessons. it is much easier than the way she explains it. She randomly cancels class OFTEN. pushed tests OFTEN. And during my semester, actually left mid semester out of the blue , losing all of our assignments and exams, and leaving us lessons behind. She will do anything but grade, teach, or be professional.
She was good at explaining the lessons and homework was just class work. She made it easy to pass and gave enough work to where you could actually learn but not be swamped.
Prof. Galvez often canceled class with odd excuses, and we ended up with a replacement, cramming 4 chapters and exams into 5 weeks. Her lectures were okay, tests were medium difficulty, and post-tests for midterms boosted scores. However, her unpredictable attendance makes her a risky choice, especially if math isn't your strong suit.
HORRIBLE. FIU had to replace her mid semester with another professor because of how bad she was. By end of NOV fall sem., we still had no grade. She would send the class pictures of her feet, cancel almost everyday, and she was literally schizo. If we did have class she showed up 40 min late, did not teach anything. I hope she gets fired
