There is alot of busy work but it's very easy to get an A in this PHAP class. He drops your lowest midterm and doubles the weight from the higher of the two. He gives plenty of extra credit on the 2nd midterm. Dr. Sidani is super cool. Unbelievably friendly. A very chill guy who really cares.
Taking this class was a roller coaster, Sidani is very unclear on his grading system. Every lecture contains 100 slides. He rushes through so much information that it's hard to actually learn in class, he does not know how to pause. One huge run-on sentence for 2 hours. His exams are long, you really do not have time to review your answers.
The tests are hard, and sometimes he contradicts himself with the material. I would not recommend to take him. Each lecture has over 100 slides. He wants his tests to be tricky so he purposefully writes them to be very hard. You also have paper due that is graded relative to you classmates.
Lectures are very long 100 slides minimum and he pushes thru them very quick. Expect to finish everything on the syllabus because if no time there will be online lecture. Tests are challenging but doable. Since he uses material from different sources they don't make sense. Only take him if you are willing to put a lot of work into his class.
Dr. Sidani is an amazing professor. He is very laid back and approachable. His slides are long but very organized and the material is presented clearly. He genuinely cares about his students and will do everything he can to help you get a good grade and learn the material. There is a lot of material but at no time is it overwhelming or too much.
Dr. Sidani is a great professor & genuinely cares about teaching. Exams can be tough, but manageable with proper studying & attending office hours for clarification. He also provides several easy extra credit opportunities. Overall he is fair, knowledgeable, & I definitely recommend taking his classes for pre-med or bio related topics.
Very controlling. Likes to stress students out for exams and expects his class to be the priority over everything else. Exams are super tough. Expect to put in a ton of work. He basically taught physio instead of animal bio. He does curve at the end, though, and he is knowledgeable about bio subjects, but long lectures with a lot of slides.
Dr. Sidani is a talented individual who absolutely loves teaching bio. He is one of the better bio professors I've had in the PHAP program so I def recommend taking his classes. He tailors his course work towards the MCAT, which is probably what the above critic was talking about, but I def appreciate it. Just prepare to work.. you know?
Just finished my first year of Post-Bacc and can say that Sidani is one of the best professors in the program. He really invests in the students (and cares about us!!). This class is tough; it requires a lot of time and effort, but you will be rewarded for it with a good grade and prep for the MCAT! He is also hilariously sarcastic :)
The exams were all lecture material. Power points are long but he spells out everything he wants you to know for each exam. He goes fast in class, but he's basically reading off of the slides and paraphrasing. Do all of the extra credit and put effort into the hw's and you'll do fine. Also go to office hours they help a lot. Dr. Sidani is great!
Cares for his students deeply and really invests in them. He's a great professor but he still has his flaws. Namely he takes his time teaching the basics and come the final, squeezes all the hard lecture material in at once. Difficult to give him feedback about confusing questions. Be prepared to work hard as he give a lot of extra assignments!
Not very good at explaining the material and on his exams he expects mastery. Spends too much time on simple stuff and towards the end he rushes through the more difficult stuff which makes studying very difficult. Curve is non existence. He does not reply to emails at all. He says email me with your question but he does not reply back.
The total power point slides for his first midterm was about 900 slides. Exam questions are very detailed. He does not explain the material well. It is like listening to a long long run on sentence for two hours. Unfortunately he made this class a nightmare. I do not recommend this professor. He does not respond to emails at all.
Reads off the slides. Gives out a lot of work but does not grade anything until the very end. So you don't get any feedback. Exams are very difficult and sometimes unclear. Goes over material to study and emphasizes on their importance but does not ask questions about them during exam. Assigns required reading for exam but never asks questions ....
Dr. Sidani takes great care of his students. I took 4 of his courses, and I wish if he would teach more classes.
I loved his BIOl 4505 class. It was an amazing class.
This was a really course; I learned a lot. Dr. Sidani is a very good professor.
This was not your typical easy course, but it is one where you learn a lot from. I really enjoyed learning from Sidani; he was very approachable, and explained the concepts very well.
I have learned a lot of Professor Mazen, he is such an amazing mentor.
I am so glad for taking this course with Professor Mazen, he has a great knowledge that tends to transfer it to every one of his students
One of the best professors, I owe him a lot.
I would definitely love taking other courses with Professor Mazen.
It was an enjoyable and beneficial course because of Professor Mazen
Professor Mazen has a great teaching style and skills that motivated me to work hard to meet his expectations in me.
course has built knowledge and determination in me. Thanks to Professor Mazen and California state university.
Professor Mazen has changed my future look into my major. I loved this course. Everything I've learned will stay with me and be passed out to others.
The knowledge I gained in this class will remain with me for lifetime.
Thankful to Professor Mazen for his efforts in getting us understands all lectures remarkably.
Professor Mazen has changed my thoughts of seeking knowledge rather than just a grade. Thankful to him.
Knowledge is power. I've gained what it takes to be powerful enough at this course.
Professor Sidani is always available outside the class, office hours are very helpful.
That was a fun class. I highly recommends Professor Sidani.
Me. Sidani makes you work for it yet he gets the best out of you. Get ready and take his class.
If time goes back, I'd definitely take this class again with Professor Mazen. Enjoyable classes and gets what you deserve and work for.
Thankful to professor Sidani for pushing me te extra mile and the great support.
Mr. Sidani is one of the best in his major and I recommend his classes.
Thank you California State University for getting your students the best biology professor such as Sidani.
Don't hesitate taking Sidani's courses and make use of office hours, it's very supportive.
Dr. Sidani loves to teach & really cares about his students success inside & out of the classroom. Lectures are REALLY long (100+ slides each) & you definitely work for your A but his enthusiasm for teaching makes the quizzes, class discussions, individual/group presentations & papers worth it. P.s. take him snacks, he doesn't pack lunch.
Make sure to schedule Office Hours with Professor Sidani and show up. They are always helpful!
He's a good teacher but his tests are difficult. It's not about how well u know the material, is how you understand his questions. (which i dislike a lot). Great lecturer, but his tests are hard. he's also pretty stubborn on his test questions, so its pointless to argue for points. (for example, youre not wrong but he still takes points off)
difficult, difficult, difficult, don't take with him.
i took principal of development with him last quarter and I worked very hard still didn't do well, the average of class of C, his lectures are very lengthy, and he rush through them, he really need to take look at the way he teaches and exam. his exams are impossible to finish on time, he shouldn't teach.
Amazing instructor with very clear lectures, grading, guidelines. Very inspirational, and tearing outside of class. Accessible and motivating. Best, would definitely take again. Clear lectures make it so that your work is a essentially dependant on how much effort you put in.
Take the course and you will regret why you did it
The amount of work in this class is not rational, he will give you 10- 15 page very dense and heavy research papers to read and just few days to answer questions. He simply doesn't understand students are taking other courses as well, and many have to work beside taking courses. soon he will be dumped by student if he doesn't renew his teaching.
The total power point slides for his first midterm was about 900 slides. Exam questions are very detailed. He does not explain the material well. It is like listening to a long long run on sentence for two hours. Unfortunately he made this class a nightmare. I do not recommend this professor.
For sure the best professor I've ever had in my college career. You definitely have to work for your grade, but Sidani's enthusiasm for the material and care for his students' success really helps push you to bring out the best in you. Ask questions and participate because Sidani recognizes effort and will do his best to help you succeed.
I am taking this course currently with him, his lecture is very disorganized. This course seems like molecular cell biology rather than genetic analysis and development, if you need to take this course I suggest to take with another teacher. You don't learn anything useful for either Mact or any other entry exam and totally have wasted your money.
I agree with the previous student regarding the way he is teaching 3123 course, today we had the exam, his exam is not like anything you have studied for. It really seemed like the exam was his other courses, total waste of time, after studying all his power points, and it wasn't just me many other student felt same. Avoid taking this course w him
He is very disorganized in teaching genetic II. In his first exam he tell you to study for material and then don't ask about them, his lectures are all over the place from replication to technique. He ask you to demonstrate a technique but he really doesn't teach you how to do it. Unfortunately he has no clue what is he doing.
I just want the student know that i just took his last quiz, which was 360 slides to review, its genetic course, don't take this course with him. I will talk to the dean of the PHAP regarding this teacher and the way he exam, quiz and demand work from his students, this cant continue. ALL QUESTIONS FILL IN THE BLANK.
its very sad that CSUEB doesn't have any better option than him for teaching multiple courses that students in PHAP need. Very disorganized in lectures, make students over work and screw their GPA by assigning too many assignment. DO NOT TAKE ANY COURSE WITH HIM.
This genetic course is my hardest class with him. I think he's just getting burned out by teaching so many classes non stop past quarters. you can tell he's just rushing things in the end and overwork the students AND himself. He used to give out a lot of ec but now he barely does that. He is not as good as before.
Avoid taking his classes. Classes that he teaches are not his strength except molecular microbiology which is his hardest course. There are alternative teachers for courses that he teaches, so save your money and gpa. He rushes through slides with no regard for students. If you ask him question in class he becomes irritated. AVOID HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stay away from him. He reads off of a powerpoint word for word and calls that a lecture. The powerpoints themselves are black and white -- no creativity whatsoever. He does not emphasize anything he says -- it's just a cluster of material that may or may not be on exam. Incoherent or obvious explanations are given whenever someone asks a question.
Easily one of the most UNDERRATED professors in PHAP. He takes time to personally assess your performance. He wants you to do well! I was in a slump in PHAP before I met him, and I cannot thank him enough. The load is not heavy. Lectures are filled with high energy, clear explanations, and supplemental material to make you understand the topics.
I've taken many classes with him & other PHAP professors. He's fair & always available for those that need additional clarification/are struggling in the class. Yes, there's many lectures slides, but if you pay attention in class, it shouldn't take you long to go through them. His lectures are interesting and will help you develop analytical skills
Prof is really fair and helpful. This class is not an easy class, but he made it easy with extra office hours to help us out. His teaching is very clear and everything on the lecture slides are good enough for quizzes and tests. He made you really work hard for it. At the end, it's a great class and I'm glad I took that class with him. learnt a lot
This class is mostly about memorization. But prof helps out with different ways to memorize easier. He's always been helpful, listened to students carefully and gave feedback as necessary. He's very organized and prepared before each class and this motivated students a lot. His lectures are very clear and powerpoint are enough for quizzes/tests.
I am taking the course currently with him, his lecture is very disorganized. This course seems like molecular cell biology rather than genetic analysis and development, if you need to take this course I suggest to take with another teacher. You don't learn anything useful for either Mact or any other entry exam
I took genetic analysis 2 over the summer and it was definitely faster pace but extremely do-able. His lectures does consist of a lot of slides however, most of his slides are repeated and he includes multiple pictures of the same concept for student to have a better understanding. Very straight forward and prepares you properly for all exams
Biomedical Parasitology sounds difficult but Dr. Sidani makes it straight forward and fun during his lectures!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Environmental Microbiology seemed boring, But Dr. Sidani made it interesting and manageable with his lectures!!!!!!!!!!!!! His lecture have many slides but he makes sure that students understand what each slide contains and what information is important for test. Recommend him for this course.
Principles of Developmental Genetic Analysis is a tough subject but Dr. Sidani made it clear and manageable!!!!! Would of gotten the A if i studied a bit more. Take him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Molecular Microbiology was the toughest course I have taken in the PHAP program. The material is heavy but Dr. Sidani makes is clear and doable. Fourth class taken that is taught by him. Best instructor in the PHAP Program!!!!!!!!!!!!! You need to take his courses you will not regret it!!!!
Took Endocrinology with Sidani and he is an EXCELLENT teacher. His slides are on the heavier side however, it's because he's filled them with pictures and goes above and beyond to make sure his students understand the lectures. He appeals to all learning types and honestly, is a great asset to PHAP. You can learn a lot and discover your potential.
Dr. Sidani is the best teacher in PHAP. He has super detailed PowerPoint which includes everything you need to know to do well in his class. He provides students with lots of extra credit opportunities. He pushes for everyone to get an A. If you are struggling all you have to do is talk to him and he will help. GREAT GUY! definitely would recommend
This was one of my toughest classes that I have taken with Dr. Sidani, however, I learned so much from this course that helped me on the MCAT. Despite being a difficult course, I was able to achieve the grade that I wanted. He makes you learn. He is detailed with his lectures and explains everything thoroughly. If you struggle, he will help you.
This class was my favorite class with him. He's very good at explaining the complex physiological processes, making the subject fairly easy to understand. He encourages to ask questions and meet him outside of lecture to discuss your performance. He has office hours at the end to help calculate your grade and what you need on his final to get an A
Genetics is my weakest subject, yet I was able to understand the material better than in other classes. He thorough in his lectures&doesn't move on until he gets an okay from you that you understand it. If he sees that you look confused in class, he will interrupt lecture to ask if you're okay or if you're confused about the material. BEST PROFESSOR
Epidemiology is the first class related to public health that i've taken so to say I was confused in the beginning is an understatement. However, his lectures were very helpful and he met with me outside of class multiple times to address any questions I had. Clear on what he wants you to focus on and what to ignore. Guaranteed A if you put in work
One of the best professors in life. PHAP did a wonderful thing hiring such an amazing teacher. CLEAR lectures are esp important for physiology and he makes it so easy and exciting to learn. Genuine teacher who goes above and beyond for his students. He does make you work for your grade but you will learn a lot and that's the most important.
Dr. Sidani is a great professor! You definitely have to work hard for your grade, but it's worth it considering the information will be useful in the future! He is also pretty understanding that he requires a lot of work from his students, so there is usually some kind of bump at the end. Quizzes and assignments are very do-able! Just study!!
the WORST Phap Teacher ever!!!!!! He is psychopath who enjoy torturing his students with irrational amount of load to study! He deletes student rating in this site so he can keep filling his classes! Do not take any of his courses! He is very mean and rude with students. You are paying $2100 per course, so why you like to go through torture!!!!!!!
Sidani has a tendency to talk down to students like we're stupid and have no idea what we're doing. He is pretty unclear in his directions. TOUGH GRADER ! run away from him! This is one of the worst teacher I've ever had.
I took developmental genetic with him, his lecture is very disorganized. This course seems like molecular cell biology rather than genetic analysis and development, if you need to take this course I suggest to take with another teacher. You don't learn anything useful for either MCAT or any other entry exam
Avoid taking his classes. Classes that he teaches are not his strength except molecular microbiology which is his hardest course. There are alternative teachers for courses that he teaches, so save your money and gpa. He rushes through slides with no regard for students. If you ask him question in class he becomes irritated. AVOID HIM !!
I took Genetics II with Sidani and I loved him! He truly cares about his PHAP students and gives a TON of extra credit just to help us out. With that being said, his class is no walk in the park. Tests are tricky, there are weekly quizzes, and 1 presentation. Very easy to get an A if you put in the work and go to office hours!
There is a lot of work for this class, but it was really worth it because he makes sure you understand the concept through repetition and explanations. Assigned homework and discussion questions are straightforward. Quiz and exams are a bit tricky with the wording. You are expected to participate in class. If you put in the effort, you'll get an A.
I took Dr. Sidani's 7 week epidemiology and endocrinology class in Fall 2018. His lectures are interesting and exams are pretty strait forward as long as you understand/memorize his slides. Yes, he gives a lot of work (quizzes, discussions, presentations etc), but it sooo helpful especially if you want to master the material. Easy A, just work hard
its very sad that CSUEB doesn't have any better option than him for teaching multiple courses that students in PHAP need. Very disorganized in lectures, make students over work and ruin their GPA . DO NOT TAKE ANY COURSE WITH HIM. Did you know he writes the positive reviews for himself in this site to fill his class. Now you know! so avoid him!!!!!
Dr. Sidani is a great professor. His classes are straightforward and manageable. He offers tons of extra credit and the averages for the majority of his classes are A's. If you're a slacker don't take his class, but then again this is PHAP so no one should be one. Guaranteed A if you put in effort!
I took endo @ PHAP's 7wk session. It was fast-paced, but Dr. Sidani made the material approachable. His lectures are interesting, he's passionate about the subject, and he cares about his students. If you're worried about the class/workload I recommend to record his lectures and listen to what he emphasizes for exams. He clearly states what to know
Professor Sidani is one of the best teachers in phap! He goes above and beyond for his students. Take his classes. Put in the work and you will get an A.
The worst teacher in the PHAP, he is harassing new teachers in the Concord campus because he thinks they are the reason for his low in class enrolment. i took three class with him and ended up with 3 C. he ruined my GPA and dashed my hope to get into any dental school. Shame on PHAP for having him. Avoid him for any course that he teaches.
So Im not sure why Professor Sidani has so many negative reviews because I have taken 3 classes with him since I started PHAP Fall 2018. He makes you work for your grade and 90-100% of the class will get an A. That being said, he has a strong personality you need to get used to. Hell say things (mostly in office hours) just bluntly.
Great lecturer, make sure you pay attention in class as he likes to call on you. Gives plenty of opportunities to get an A in his class as long as you put forth the effort.
1) Ignore the negative reviews, they don't have what it takes. 2) Participate. Be present. Ask questions. You'll learn better that way (there's a participation boost). 3) Lecture is fast-paced and really encourages grasping of concepts and critical thinking on exams. 4) Trust. He'll take care of you in the end if you put in effort and you're nice.
Took many classes with Sidani in PHAP - Molecular Micro and Parasitology last semester, Endocrinology this semester. Sidani is intimidating at first, but you soon realize that his intensity and high expectations are all out of love and dedication to excellence for his students. LOTS OF SLIDES but fun and interesting material! Sidani is a gem.
I took developmental genetic with him, his lecture is very disorganized. This course seems like molecular cell biology rather than genetic analysis and development, if you need to take this course I suggest to take with another teacher. You don't learn anything useful for either MCAT or any other entry exam. Avoid him
I took developmental genetic with him, his lecture is very disorganized. This course seems like molecular cell biology rather than genetic analysis and development, if you need to take this course I suggest to take with another teacher. You don't learn anything useful for either MCAT or any other entry exam. take it other teachers!
Dr. Sidani is amazing. His classes require work and really prepare you for grad school. He holds lots of office hours and is ALWAYS willing to talk. He offers lots of extra credit and grades well. Best prep and prof to get ready for healthcare field. Highly recommend. Work hard and you will do well. For students who want to learn, this is the best.
Dr. Sidani is a great professor who will teach you everything you need to do well on the MCAT, DAT, etc. Like any other class, hard work and consistency is required to do well. If you put in the effort there is no reason to get an A in any of his classes. Aside from being a great professor, Dr. Sidani truly cares about his students.
So, I had Sidani as a PHAP student, and I'm assuming most other students in the future will also be PHAP. He expects a lot out of you, but will give you all the tools to succeed. His class is both hard and easy; lots of content in 400 slide ppts, but content relatively easy if u memorize and understand. Strict, but very nice and lots of extra cred
By far the best professor in PHAP. I took him for both Molecular Microbio and Parasitology. He spends the time to help you learn the fundamentals in the beginning of the semester to really help you learn and retain the information. He is a very caring professor who will help you improve as a student. Take his class!
Pros: Enthusiastic, clear expectations , lots of extra credit, great lecturer, great slides, accessible through office hours. Cons: Can be overbearing during lectures and pick on students, has favorites which makes it difficult to connect with him if hes not particularly fond of you. Ultimately the pros outweigh the cons. Worth taking.
Dr. Sidani is great. I took 4 classes with him and will be taking another this upcoming semester. Advanced Molecular and Cell Biology was one of the hardest courses I have ever taken, but if you put the work in you can also get an A. He gives lots of extra credit opportunities and if you work work hard and stay on it you'll be fine.
This course was the first time I took a summer online class so it was initially challenging with the new format. Dr. Sidani is very generous and notes students that are working hard, participating, and showing positive improvement. Office hours is so essential to attend! The cold calling can be a little overbearing but you get used to it.
Dr. Sidani is an amazing professor. His lectures might get dense at times but as long as you put the effort it will be rewarding at the end.
He is a great professor, an amazing lecturer but besides that, Dr. Sidani is a friendly and caring person. He genuinely cares about the fate of each student and tries to make everyone succeed in the class.
The best professor at PHAP. His classes really helped me change my study habits and become an overall better student. I've had the chance to take four classes with him. While I initially had trouble adjusting, Sidani was always approachable for help. He cares for students and is fair. Lectures are dense but if you put in work, you can get As
Demanding of attention: will snap if you don't nod your head, don't say good morning fast enough. Overbearing and micromanages everything. Very irritable. Has clear favorites. Quiz every week, no backtracking. Cancelled my office hours several times. Tried to reach out saying I was having difficulty and dismissed me saying it's a basic course.
Dr. Sidani cares about the material and is obviously very passionate about it. However, he is inflexible and can be condescending. Camera must be on and if youre not staring at the screen unblinking then he calls you out. Seems caring in lecture but condescending in office hours. Avoid if you can.
Steer away from Dr. Sidani if you are a PHAP student! He is reactionary to the max! You have to sit through his class everyday and depending on if he likes the students in your class or not (or you) he can make your life a living hell. He berated womxn in my class all summer long. He has favorites and will let it be known!
DO NOT TAKE SIDANI His lecture slides are unreasonably long & posts them 30 mins before class. He is hypermasculine & it oozes through the lecture. It's gross, honestly. He gives you weekend quizzes & does not provide feedback on anything. You basically have to beg him for his time & he will never reply to emails. He accommodates favs; men.
A part of me is just really disappointed in him/his behavior. Overbearing and micromanages. Cancel's a lot of OH and says to reschedule. He seems passionate and caring during class but is EXTREMELY CONDESCENDING during OH and moody. Demands your camera be on. Cold calls and picks favorites. Some do like him but he has more cons than pros. AVOID him
Disappointing. Flakes on office hours. Office hours are only ten minutes. Does not accept same day office hour appointments and does not accommodate. Does not repeat information when asked. Plays favorites in class. Belittles you when you ask questions. Avoid at all costs.
Just dont take any class taught by this man. Lecture heavy, slides off the internet, doesnt explain why he grades the way he does, snappy, has an attitude with students, and is condescending all the time. Save yourself. Take someone else. Better for your mental health.
Dr. Sidani was such a gem. I took him as a PHAP student for genetics and endocrinology. He is very tough but difficulty helps to understand the overall concepts. When classes switched online it was difficult for all of us however he made sure he was here for his students and even created a mental health page for us on FB. 10/10 would take again.
Dr. Sidani is an amazing professor! I took one class with him and haven't stopped since then. He lets you know what is expected from you and gives many extra credit opportunities. He prepares you for graduate school (med, dental, pharm etc) even though the class is tough. Study his slides and you'll be fine for his exams. Definitely recommend!
The negative ratings below are written by post-bacc students that simply don't want to work hard for their grades and were hoping to pad their GPAs with As. That's not going to happen with Dr. Sidani. He will make you work for it. If you're a bad student, that's on you. If you can't handle Dr. Sidani's classes, you won't handle grad school. Period.
The best professor that I have ever had in my academic career. The recent attempts to slander him are unfounded. There are generations of students who credit their success to him. I had bad study habits as a student before his classes. He worked really hard with me. I currently attend and do well at a T5 medical school because of his tough love.
Dr. Sidani cares a great deal about his students and will go above and beyond for them to succeed. If you want an easy ride throughout PHAP, this class, or maybe even the medical field, pick a different career. He prepares you for medical school and shows that you can't just coast through it, like any career, you need to work for it.
Dr. Sidani gives a lot of extra credit throughout the semester. Hes intimidating at first, but hes very caring. He prepares students for medical school and gives good feedback on how you can improve your study habits to do well in his class. It was a lot of work but his class challenges you to reach your potential.
Beware of Sidani! He likes to pretend that he really cares about his students, but it's exact opposite. When I had an issue with Respondus, he yelled at me/blamed me for the system wide problem. His grading is very subjective, so if he doesn't like you, expect your grade to suffer.
Dr. Sidani is intimidating at first. I'm a very shy student and never like speaking up in class. His class taught me to be confident in class discussions and really pushed me to discover different study habits that I wasn't aware I was capable of doing before PHAP! Tough class but worth it. My toughest class but I got all As in his classes!
he is nice
