McGarren did a great job with a diverse group of students, some had tons of experience with digital painting while others did not. For a brand new class I think he did a great job with the projects-- very similar to his beginning drawing class. Which was great for the students just starting out, but still challenging for everyone else.

Do your work that is scheduled outside of class and you are fine. There isn't an expectation of flawless artistry, but you are expected to try.

I loved having him as a professor. I learned a good deal in his class even though it was a block class, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. He knows how to grab the classes attention and keep it. I also loved his sense of humor. Honestly, he's an awesome professor and I would definitely recommend him to anybody, especially an aspiring art student (;

Mcgarren has been my favorite teacher. Hes hilarious and he explains everything crystal clear. His class is so easy but it helped me alot about learning about dixie state and about contemporary artists.

McGarren is knowledgeable about oil painting and does a good job explaining and showing how to get the paint on the canvas so it looks right. He expects you to be on time to class, not even one minute late. There will be homework that supports the classroom assignments and it is mandatory.

If you are painting and looking to improve (this means especially outside of class for homework) you will pass. McGarren simply wants to see you succeed as a painter and if you don't want to succeed you won't. He is a world renowned artist/ friendly guy. Go easy on the blue paint. It will destroy your kitchen of you leave any on your hands

Expect a lot of homework and in class work. He is a tough grader, but respects his students and expects greatness from everyone in his class.

He is very good with students. The only test was pretty easy no problems. I believe that this class was super fun, I defiantly enjoyed it and learned a lot, not just for painting, but for art in all.

Flack is cool and knows his stuff. Not really any extra credit opportunities other than evaluations, so if you miss a day you are SOL on those points. Overall he is a fair grader and is always willing to give helpful feedback and advice.

Is helpful and if you read the book you will be prepared for the next class assignment. Will actually teach you techniques and the know hows of oil painting. Does have a quiz for the end of the semester, but study and you will past.

I really enjoyed McGarren as a professor! He was great at telling what you were doing wrong, and what to do differently. I had never done oil painting before and after this course I LOVE it more than other art mediums I have tried! McGarren was also very helpful and willing to do examples in class so you could also watch rather than just listen.

This class was great but moved over each subject a little too fast. We could have easily spent the entire semester on one of the subjects covered. Professor's music choices were irritating. Over all Professor was helpful. Class was very helpful.

Amazing teacher. Can be a bit too demanding with the quantity of work.

Gives small quiz's due before class, pretty easy. Just take the time to do them, make sure you go to class and you'll be fine. Great class. Very upbeat and fun.

Really great class, I learned a lot and can see a difference in my skills from before I walked into class to after I walked out. A good variety of assignments. Thought it was a strange to have class with graphic design people and with painters and I kind of wish the assignments could be adjusted for each group.

If you don't like showing up for class DO NOT take this class. Teaches really helpful skills for photo editing for graphic designers.

Does not offer much extra credit, so if you don't do your assignments and show up to class you won't pass.

This class is very useful for Grapyic Design major student's. If you will go to class, and you will be ok. I you don't like go to class on time maybe you won't pass this class because the attendance is mandatory.

I am a photographer (NOT a painter) and the class was still very interesting and fun for me. McGarren understands that not everyone that takes the class is super great at painting. He's very friendly and willing to listen and help.

I really enjoyed this class. It gave me a chance to be creative, but also have deadlines to meet. There is a lot of class time to work, but if you need more time the lab is available during the week which is nice. Professor Flack, is very talented and gives good feedback on student work.

Assignments in the beginning are rough. The more freedom on the assignment allotted the easier it was to learn the medium. Allot of the videos and reading were hard to absorb until practiced more fully, especially the fewer tools an assignment the better enabled for it.

Professor Flack knows what he is teaching. He is experienced in the material that is being taught. He has spent time studying and coming to know the history of art materials and methods. He expects his students to take time on their work and expects his students to actively learn.

This class really improved my skills in digital drawing. If you're interested at all I recommend you take this course because it's easy to catch on and improve fast.

He is a very talented and inspirational artist who knows exactly what he is talking about, so if you stick with it and do the work, there is a lot you can learn from him.

Archival art class - your paintings will outlive you, if you listened. Unique, priceless info. So much content, some delivered so fast, it was challenging to absorb in context, but well reviewed. McGarren very passionate about these processes, and SUPER open to sharing a lifetime of his own investment in these ideas. He is brilliant and caring.

Very informational class. Anyone who is thinking about doing art professionally has much to learn about materials and their archival qualities. Test questions are sometimes confusing/contradicting - just make sure to take tons of notes for the final.

McGarren is very passionate about art and also passionate about helping students. He is always very patient with students and wants them to succeed. With that said, he doesn't accept mediocre work and isn't afraid to tell you if something is bad. I look at this as a good trait.

This class was extremely helpful in developing skills in digital painting. I previously had no experience with painting digitally and professor Flack taught the class at an easy to follow pace while covering all of the basics. The requirements for each assignment are clear and grades are updated in a quick manner.

McGarren is hands down the greatest art professor I've ever met. He gives good critique and is way easy to get along with. But the best part is he ACTUALLY does art for a living as well so he knows what he's talking about, he gives great insight on how to provide for yourself as an artist, and talks about art shows and what you need to do for them!

I really enjoyed taking this class from him. He explained things clearly and was easy to talk to. He knows his stuff when it comes to the gallery space..... And other things. Take a class from him if you can.

He is a great instructor and his knowledge about the business side of art is stellar. If you really want to know how to run a business as an artist, then this is the right class for you. There was a lot of reading, but it was really beneficial to the subject matter and actually supplemented the lectures a lot.

I really enjoy this professor and everything that he teaches He really knows what he is talking about.

Would recommend taking this course if you art planning on starting your own business selling your art. It isn't the funnest class, but you learn all the things that no one else took the time to tell you about running a business.

Really good at helping you with questions on assignments, and tells stories of things he's seen being a paramedic, he is a cool teacher all around. And he's really casual about death though (a result of being a paramedic).

He was really cool. A lot of fun.

This class was not a class that I was very into but I was able to learn so much about Photoshop. Professor Flack made it possible for you to understand how to do certain things on the computer and he tried to bring out the creativity in each student.

Business of Art class is extremely helpful. He is knowledgeable and applies this in his own art business.

He is a painter of the human body and not afraid to do what comes to mind and then change it up.

Flack is a great professor who puts a lot of effort into preparing for a class. He is always ready to help students outside of class and is passionate about sharing his own experience for our benefit. I do wish he would just swear though instead of using fake swears. Thanks for a wonderful class, McGarren!

McGarren (AKA Master Flack) is a good teacher. He has high expectations, but he is very helpful if you just ask. Moves quickly, so ASK QUESTIONS if you're lost. It's definitely hard to keep up if you don't go to class (I know from experience). He gives helpful feedback on assignments. He's a decent teacher, and a hilarious person!

Great for Fine Arts majors that want to get their work in galleries, not recommended for students who aren't trying to get their art in galleries, art shows, etc.

Instructor is very knowledgable and experienced with business as a fine artist. Material is relevant and helpful. You will get out of it what you put into it. He provides the information, but you have to apply them to yourself and your business goals. He is entertaining and puts a lot of thought and preparation into his course.

This is for ART3800 which isn't listed. Lots of good info in this class. Be prepared to work in groups. Miss 5 classes and you get an automatic F. Also, if you don't get a piece accepted to the art show you have to spend a bunch of money to either go on the art trip or travel to Kanab to take the Business of Art seminar in order to pass.

Art 1120 is a 2D Design class taught using photoshop. Professor FLack is very knowledgable and easy to talk to. Even though I hated photoshop, I enjoyed having Flack as a professor. He is helpful, knowledgable, and very approachable. I would definitely take any class from him.

Some of the text books were a little useless, but you have to do a couple of assignments that they are necessary for.

Always provides great feedback on all of our assignments. The only thing I can recommend changing is the ability to use the tablets any day of the week to work on assignments outside of class just like using the computer lab. This would help tremendously in getting caught up on assignments outside of class.

This class was for digital painting. He had too many students in this class. The work of getting to each student in order to give feedback meant that you would likely only speak with him once per class. The narrow spaces between desks and students was awkward for up-close discussions, yet he gave a great effort. He was a fun instuctor.

Mr. Flack is a great teacher with excellent fine art skills. He creates a very positive atmosphere in the studio, as he is very approachable an easy to communicate with. I very much appreciated Mr. Flack's view of fine art and his acceptance of different artistic approaches. Mr. Flack is the best fine art Professor at Dixie State.

He is a very hard grader. He won't grade your projects if they are not done, and if he dose it's only like 50% is available. He uses medical terms for the body and he teaches the things we need to know about the projects.

McGarren is an overall excellent teacher. He is great at giving honest feedback and is always ready to help out, in or out of the classroom. He is very knowledgable. He does require a lot of work, including homework, and is a pretty strict grader. A lot of his students recommend only taking one of his classes per semester so not to get overwhelmed.

You need need to be in class or you fail the class. You need to motivated.

This class was fun! It was work, but fun. McGarren is so good to check up on each individual student and help out and provide plenty of honest and helpful feedback. It's kind of hard to get an A in his classes, but he does want you to do good work and be happy with your projects.

A really great class, I wish it was more difficult but I understand why it isn't. Would prefer harder grading, more aggressive critique. Professor gave great, understandable, clear feedback and was very helpful. What you want out of the class, you can get if you pursue it. Professor very willing to help.

I really enjoyed his class. It's definitely one of the better ones I've taken. However, I do get him confused sometimes with the assignments even though I was sure I was doing it right. But I'm about 99.9% sure its my own fault.

Very good professor that has amazing communication. You will always know what is due and when, and he really listens to students, even when students want an extra day to complete the assignment. Fun-loving personality and gives excellent constructive criticism, even if you are a sensitive person.

McGarren is a good motivator, and makes me want to do better as a student. His opinion is well respected and his critiques are in depth on how a student can improve. I get the impression that he wants what's best for all his students and wants them to succeed in his class, but the student needs to be willing to do the work and attend classes.

Really enjoyed his class, I did get confused sometimes, but I am pretty sure that the confusion was my fault. I would take a class with him again because he helps create a better artist.

He does take attendance every class, right when it begins, so you HAVE to show up ON TIME, or you will be docked attendance points. I feel like he definitely expects quality work, but he also will help however he can to boost your confidence if you're struggling. He is a really cool guy though, so don't get me wrong. I'd recommend him to anyone.

McGarren really knows how to approach his students in a positive way. He is very helpful and relates his own experience to what you are trying to accomplish in your art.

He is very helpful when you go to him with your questions and he knows how to break things down for you to make it easy. You need to have a lot of time open for homework, but it will help with your painting. Wish he did a little more painting demonstrations in class but he is overall a great professor.

He's an amazing professor and will help you with corrections. If you he tells you to do something specific and you understood him wrong, he'll come back around and rephrase it as many times as it takes for you to understand without getting irritated. Amazing professor 10/10 would recommend.

McGarren is very knowledgeable. If you have a question, he usually has a legitimate and educated answer. The course is very organized and objectives are clear. He grades a little harder, and there's a quite a bit of out of class work, but I learn more in his classes than any other.

This is not an easy-A art class. You need to show up and you need to put in the effort and do your assignments or you will not pass. He likes to put grading rubrics on the assignments so you know what you will be graded on. This is a "learn-by-doing" class and he tends to explain verbally and then just let you figure it out on your own.

McGarren is a wonderful know-it-all who wants you to know it, too. He definitely doesn't namby-pamby around and give out A's and gold starts just because you're there and drawing your little heart out. He wants you to learn, he knows what he's talking about, and he'll help you get there. He's super friendly and will do his best to help you learn.

McGarren is by far one of my favorite Professors, he is extremely knowledgeable and talented. This isn't a class that you can skip, you need to show up and do your work; however, McGarren understand that everyone isnt going to be Picasso. Try your best and if you are witty/sarcastic make sure he hears your funny comments, he loves witty people.

He's tough but fair. Very knowledgeable and helpful. I like that he sets a high standard for himself as well as his students, and is big on improvement.

Great person, great teacher, very passionate about art. Skipping class is not a great idea, as class is only held once per week. You'll pass if you show up and do your work. He has a great sense of humor and is willing to joke around, but, he doesn't take excuses for not being serious.

McGarren Flack knows his subjects and how to teach so that students grasp the details of painting. He is honest and up front about his expectations of students and maintains his standards thru the course.

Professor Flack is not an easy professor to please. However, though his class may be very labor intensive, everything he had us do was incredibly purposeful. I would not recommend taking two of his classes together if you have a busy life, because there is a lot of homework every week. I feel as if he did give my a lot of information I will apply.

He's taught me a lot in this class and my paintings have definitely improved. He does give a lot of homework and I found that hard to complete but it was also fun in class time.

Very well organized class, to get a good grade the student must work at least 4 hrs of HW a week and attend class. Hard class but the student will gain lots of knowledge.

I think that mr flack was an awesome teacher, he helped us learn the material in a thorough manor and had a fair amount of assignments outside of class, I think that his grading style is to the point and he is honest which thats what artists need, honesty.

McGarren is a wonderful professor! He is not your average art teacher that will allow you to fake it or be lazy, he genuinely pushes you to improve in class and outside of class. He is fun to be around and he gives specific and helpful critiques to each of his students. He is the best art teacher I have had and has helped me improve as an artist.

McGarren is such a great instructor. He really knows his stuff. I love the music he blasts during class, its super motivating. There is about 4 hours of homework a week, but its not very difficult.

McGarren is a great resource and provides great advice about various artistic careers with facts and sometimes hard truths. He also goes out of his way to ensure your success, inspiring you to work hard and push yourself.

Professor Flack is a knowledgeable art teacher and he definitely knows what he's talking about. This class required a lot of work outside of class time (which was already 2.5 hrs, twice a week) but it was all for your benefit so you could do well on upcoming assignments.

I learned how to use color in oil paint better then I have in any other class.

Professor Flack is a great professor with clear expectations and grading criteria. He makes the course material very clear. There are sketchbook assignments that require three hours of drawing a week on top of finishing the overall assignment. He gives good feedback on how to fix what you've drawn and let's you fix it for a better grade.

This class was somewhat difficult and time consuming, but if you put in the effort you are able to learn a lot. There is a lot of homework assigned, but Professor Flack gives helpful feedback that helps improve your work. He also provides a clear grading criteria that students can use to better understand what each assignment requires.

The Professor is very well organized and is always willing to share his artistic skills to the class when students are having trouble with an assignment. Attendance is mandatory and homework plays a big role on the grade you will receive in class. After taking this class you will feel more confident in your drawing and painting skills.

Flack will make you work hard on your assignments, and he will push you to be better in a constructive way. He does not give feedback that would not help you in some way.

He's really funny and good to work with. While doing our drawings in class, he'll come around and give tips and feedback to each one of us. He's willing to work with you if you're willing to put in the effort. NOTE: this is NOT an easy A class. He'll tell you right at the beginning and even encourage people to drop the class. DO NOT SKIP THIS CLASS

He will really grade your work based on what would sell, or be respected, in the art world. So be prepared to work for a good grade.

McGarren is an excellent teacher. I've taken several of his courses and I always end the semester feeling like I've learned more from him than most other instructors. He is very knowledgeable and provides solid feedback that will vastly improve your artistic skills. He isn't nearly as tough as they all say. Just show up & do your best & you'll pass

Don't expect to get through one of Flack's classes without having some super stressful moments. You will be critiqued, whether you want it or not. You'll get a great education though, so it's a good tradeoff.

He will be honest with you and give you good feedback. He also believes that if you aren't scared about the amount of homework he is giving you then he is doing you a disservice which he stated multiple times in class. You will also learn a lot of random information in class, but it doesn't get in the way of learning course content.

The Business of Art class he teaches should be taken by ever art major. He really knows his stuff and gets through a lot of content really fast. He will take you out of your comfort zone, but that is great for you as an artist.

Flack is a very honest and straightforward dude. He has very clear grading rubrics and sticks to them. He can joke around with you though, and will play your music during class if you beg. Also ask him to tell you stories he's had a very interesting life.

You will need to work outside of class on the bigger projects, but he gives you lots of feedback in class and knows what you need to do better and how to convey it. Great professor, had lots of fun, just get ready to work.

He was a friendly guy, but you have to show up to class to pass you can't miss class very often because there are lots of in class work specifically that day. There is lots of homework, usually 3 hours of sketchbooks and finishing drawings that you did in class.

If you're looking for an easy A, don't take this class. If you meet the criteria for each assignment exactly, you are given a B. To receive an A grade you are expected to go above and beyond. That being said, McGarren is an honest and fair professor who gives helpful feedback and is willing to work with you.

Professor Flack wants you to succeed as a student and improve your drawing capabilities so he is willing to help you out when he can. Expects you to spend at least 3 hours out of class for your sketchbook homework each week. Big part of your grade is attendance so make sure you show up for class or it will greatly affect your grade.

he is a good teacher all around. He can be a hard grader, which sucks because some people art not as good at art. You shouldn't get graded off of talent.

Flack was able to give the class the textbook that helped a lot.

He does not allow as much experiment when painting the figure and expects the painting to be better as students struggle with color.

Lots of homework at the beginning and lightens up a little but not much. He is the only one who can teach the class. Only offered one every two years.

Flack's classes are difficult with immense amounts of homework, but the homework is usually somewhat enjoyable and always very beneficial. Practice outside of class is necessary to do well in his art courses. The thing I like the most about his classes is how clear his requirements/expectations are and the grading feedback is always helpful.

He's a professor who really knows his stuff. I learned a lot of things from him that I should've from other previous professors. He is a tough grader, but he's fair. He's sarcastic, but don't take it personally -- that's his norm. He gives A LOT of homework, but everything is worth doing. Take him if you really want to learn solid art techniques.

Prof Flack knows that art can be a business and he's a living testament that you can be successful as an artist. He knows all the ropes, and even brings in guest speakers with all sorts of art jobs to tell you about even more ropes! Taking this class really boosted my confidence that I can be a successful artist, and I owe it to Prof Flack.

Art class is never boring with Prof. Flack bc he's always got a story to tell. He goes on all kinds of fun tangents and you'll come to class expecting to learn about the principles of animation and come out knowing how electric car batteries work or all the names of all the bones in your body. Flack's classes are my favorites, 10/10 should take.

BEST PROFESSOR I EVER HAD!

I think the information provided in the class was really great and it helped me out in learning the material. The extra reading materials and texts were also a great addition to learning the information. I think the class time was heavily spent reiterating the things we had already done at home so grading so heavily on attendance was a bit much.

The assignments in this class take time and effort, but you also have a good deal of freedom to make them your own. The professor for this class is very good at helping his students understand what is required but also how to be creative in their own way. All in all, McGarren Flack is a great professor with an awesome class.

McGarren is a very firm grader and will really push you to do your best and to create an exact, accurate drawing for the class. He has a very trained eye to help you see mistakes and really knows his stuff in all areas of art and business, making him a great resource.

Professor Flack's Intermediate Drawing class is challenging, but you wouldn't grow if it wasn't. Be prepared to work, but your artwork will improve significantly by the end of the course if you commit to it.

At first I strongly disliked this teacher. I felt he critiqued work to harshly and I felt uncomfortable taking his advice. However, I learned that he is a great teacher who cares and will push you. I have learned the most from him then any other teacher at DSU. He gives you advice on how to improve but doesn't forget to point out what you did well.

Prof Mcgarren is a genuinely wonderful professor. he cares about his students and provides every opportunity for us to succeed. the class itself is a great intro to digital painting, whether you're new at it or more experienced. While you can still pass the class with a few unexcused absences, most of the teaching is during lectures.

McGarren is the toughest teacher in the art dept. He really makes you work for your grade, and if you miss a beat or forget to do homework, your grade can take a hit. But he never talks to you like you are dumb, and he is very knowledgeable and will help you make the best piece that you can. He can be intimidating, but he is an awesome teacher.

McGarren was a really hard teacher but also pretty fair. He's super intimidating at first but once you get going with the class you warm up to him. he's really helpful when it comes to feedback and he'll give you a good grade if you work hard and understand the concepts of each project.

He knows how to explain things (mostly). Each project in this class is a different material/medium so you have to learn how to manipulate it fast. Ummm he randomly disappears during class time (and I'm always filled with questions so this isn't the best lol) hes a really solid professor you learn loads but you have to put in lots of time.

Attendance is mandatory and if you do not want to give effort and receive and easy A then I suggest you do not take this class. He will make you work for your grade. McGarren is very experienced and knowledgable in oil painting. He can be a little intimidating at first, but he's actually nice and just wants you to improve. It's in your best interest to do the homework. It is what it is with him.

His anatomy class is amazing if you are ready to really work to understand the course material and if you do the work you will at least learn something that makes your drawing skills better. I took his Figure Painting class as my first class with him and I was thoroughly impressed with his ability to push you to your limits, in a good way. He made you step outside your comfort zone and really tried to make you reach higher than you could think of yourself. He has a good motto within his class that there is no such thing as "can't."

Flack is an educated, philispohical, hardworking, and talented teacher and artist. He engages well with his students and pushes them to be the best artists possible. Anatomy for the artist was a great class and I learned a lot because I was pushed out of my comfort zone into new realms of knowledge.

I highly recommend figurative artists taking the anatomy for artist class. It has been a huge help in my figure drawing and painting. Be ready for spending extensive hours in this class. The grading is rather harsh. You need to spend definitely more than 4 hours in the weekly drawing homework in order to achieve the full points.

Professor Flack won't spare your feelings or your grade, but you'll definitely improve in his class. Taking courses from him is difficult, but in the way that helps you learn.

He expects his students to really work on learning Anatomy. He expects that one will put effort into both memorization, drawing and sculpting of all materials provided in canvas. His tests can be tricky and you will have to draw from cadavars at least four times. I suggest vicks vapor rub for under your nose and extra strength mints! He is funny.

This class required dedication and lots of hard work so if you have the time and are good with being discipline, take it.

He has a sense of humor you really gotta roll with the punches and be willing to accept what he says. When it comes to critiques he will always say his honest opinion and you should really listen because it makes you grow as an artist and as a person. Also, his Spanish is subpar, so if you speak Spanish, you should test him and see how he does.

Honestly, he needs help writing quizzes, he should pay me and I could write questions that are straightforward and actually make sense and don't have typos. Other than that, a great professor. Really cares. Reasonably accommodating.

Very strict about attendance. Even if you're a couple minutes late, he will mark you tardy. Check canvas EVERYDAY. His modules are very organized and informative. Even though he's strict, he really cares about his students. He's strict because he wants you to learn.

He does not give slack. You have to show up, and have your work done on time. He's very knowledgable and well accomplished as an artist, so if being an artist is your goal, take his feedback, even if you don't agree.

Students so to beware him and avoid if possible but I have learned more from him than I have any other professor. He truly cares that you understand what youre doing and will do everything he can to help you succeed in his classes. He isnt afraid to tell you what he thinks about your art but always gives some form of constructive criticism.

If you do nothing, you will get nothing in return. Master Flack is capable and understanding, he knows what he is talking about through his experiences.

Do the prep work in the modules before class and you will be much better off. If you are willing to put in the work to understand the concepts, he is willing to help you learn how to implement them. That being said - if you aren't willing to put in the work and just complain about not being able to figure it out, take a different class.

Figure painting was a great class that I really enjoyed and would take again. Its a hard course with lots of assignments but Master Flack wants students to succeed and is very helpful.

If you are serious about becoming an artist you NEED to take as many classes from Professor Flack as possible. Read the module materials, watch the videos, take notes and you will seriously improve your skills. He does not expect perfection, but he does expect you to take his time and critiques seriously. Do your work to the best of your ability.

A great class to learn how to use the correct color for paintings. Lots of information and Flack gives great feedback to help you out on the next assignment.

Color Rendering class is a needed skill for any artist. The book is super helpful - especially if you READ it (which isn't required, but highly recommended) The book is also very useful in learning more about the colors of the color wheel. Do the exercises and use the paint swatches to gain the most insight.

Figure painting is a tough class, but one where you learn tons about the human figure. There is a bit of memorizing and learning bones and muscles; but if you stay on top of studying it makes a big difference. Do the weekly homework figures. It seems like a lot of homework, but the practice really helps figure out the shapes and hues of the figure.

Clear expectations, and good feedback. Keeps class entertaining while still going over important topics and helping with any questions or struggles.

This class was tougher than others I have taken from Flack, sculpting the muscles and bones was difficult for me and took many hours outside of class to complete. Studying anatomical terms for tests and quizzes also took time, but it all was helpful in furthering my knowledge of the human form to aid in drawing it.

This class really taught me a lot about color, how to get the right color, how to see colors correctly, how colors interact and more. Very helpful and improved my paintings through studying for this class.

McGarren Flack is a well of knowledge coming from years of experience in creating art! He practices the academic approach to drawing/painting. As a student, I benefitted from his years of experience. His explanations are backed by science and logic. He does require you to work hard for your grade, but that's how he ensures that you learn.

Flack is an amazing professor, but you definitely need to follow his advice to do well in the class. He's a talented artist and you'll benefit from his knowledge. Watch out for his quizzes though, because they're extremely specific and he rarely goes over the material in class. You also have to devote yourself to studying/working outside of class.

Great class, so much is taught over the whole semester but it's all very valuable and useful information. You get to experience putting that information into practice as well by creating your own materials, which really helped me as a hands on learner.

He is a well of knowledge in everything Art and how to make your work archival. He also gives us access to his studio so we could use his professional equipment to build our own frames.
