Chiller and has a good time during lectures
Attendance is mandatory and she takes 10 minutes of class to take attendance in a class of 75. Homework due every week (chapter quiz and problems & applications) worth 40% of your grade. Mindtap is annoying but if you keep up you should be good. There are 4 exams worth 60% of your grade and you can have a cheat sheet. best out of all eco teachers
THE BEST PROF. Attendance is mandatory, she takes the first 10 min of class to do it. 4 exams and quizzes every week. The exams are literally the quiz questions so write as all of them down on your cheat sheet. Also get your friends in the class and combine them to get more. Overall she is incredible and if you wanna take econ, TAKE MEA
Very easy class! The lectures are hilarious but at times convoluting, so just read the textbook beforehand and come to class to relax. 4 tests - cheatsheet, same bank as on the weekly quizzes (2 attempts). 3 attempts on weekly homework. Up to 4 extra credit points to your final grade. Attendance matters - only 2 free absenses
This is one of the easiest classes I have taken high school are college. Ahlberg is a little goofy, but she keeps her lectures short and to the point. She is very friendly and accessible outside of class if needed although I can't imagine any scenario you would because the class is absurdly easy.
Great class, well-structured.
Best microecon Prof at SMU. Not an easy A, but if you put in the work that is required for the course, you will get one no problem. Would highly recommend.
Such a kind person, super approachable and always willing to help her students. For the course, tests are straightforward. You will have seen most of the questions beforehand. One downside of the course is that attendance is mandatory. After 2 unexcused absences your grade will drop. You can make this up, however, with easy EC. One of my favorites.
great professor! lectures can sometimes be a bit long but overall not bad. tests are super easy and you can definitely get an A in this course.
Prof Ahlberg has to be the biggest chiller in Econ department
Dr. Ahlberg is so nice and definitely cares about her students. As long as you do the work outside of her class, you will get a good grade. The tests can be difficult, but she only uses quiz questions and you get a cheat sheet which helps a lot. She is also very understanding and willing to work with you if you need help.
Professor was great, would definitely take it again.
Professor Ahlberg is easily one of the best teachers I've ever had. I had taken Economics previously, but she was able to explain it in a way that kept every student engaged and allowed us understand and remember key portions of the class. Do whatever you can to take Professor Ahlberg!
Ahlberg is a great prof, but I struggled with the subject itself. Econ either comes to you easily or it doesn't. To combat this, be sure to do the extra credit assignments because that is the nudge that got me an A-. The physical textbook is not required, but you have to purchase MindTap to complete hwk. Chegg is helpful for hwk assignments.
Dr. Ahlberg is my favorite teacher I have taken at SMU. Money & Banking seems like a daunting course however her engaging lectures and clearly defined class structure allows students to perform as well as they would like. A must take class!!
Dr. Ahlberg is truly my favorite teacher I have taken at SMU so far. This International trade class is full of great content yet the course load is extremely manageable. There are extra credit opportunities and she is always listening to students feedback about how to improve the course. I highly recommend this class!
The Professor is very understanding and will work with you outside of class. Quizzes are very helpful for test in the class.
Professor Ahlberg is caring and accommodating. She clearly believes in her students and wants them to succeed. She puts a lot of effort into making all of her lectures engaging, even when the content itself might not seem really interesting to most. You still do need to spend a lot of time studying. Excited to take ECON 1312 with her next semester!
Professor Ahlberg is very sweet. Course is very straightforward, and if you are interested in money and banking systems you will learn a lot. Didnt receive an A due to attendance.
Prof. Ahlberg was amazing. Loved her class so much. I do have to say that you will definitely need to spend some time outside of the class to complete work but it's not too bad. The textbook is easy to understand. Once you figure out how to take her tests (she literally tells you how you can ace them) you will do well on all of her tests.
Professor Ahlberg cares about her student's success and is available for support. Required disciplined daily work, class attendance, and stretched my learning skills; it was a very good experience. I would enroll again in any of her classes.
She is the BEST TEACHER EVER! If you need to take economics at SMU Professor Ahlberg is the way to go. Only four tests and homework is fairly easy if you stay on top of it. For the tests I recommend getting in groups with your friends and look over all your guys quizzes and make sure you understand each answer in the quizzes she gives you!
this woman is amazing and get ready to clap for random stuff.
Dr. Ahlberg is an interesting professor who cares about her students. You'll clap for random things but play along, it's a nice stress reliever. Only piece of advice: get a shared doc together with the HW quiz answers. They are from the exam banks and, once you have enough answers, your A is almost guaranteed.
Ahlberg is a very energetic and caring professor, but her class is lecture heavy. The probs and apps, and outside quizzes are easy and help with points! Her exams are from a test bank but have gotten harder over time and are on lockdown browser now. She takes attendance every class, so you do have to be there, but always the same lecture format.
Mea Ahlberg changes her mind about her syllabus quite often throughout the semester. She responded to her emails pretty quickly, but does not give clear responses. If student do very well on tests, she will make the next test almost completely impossible to do well on. None of her information from lectures will be on the exams.
Easy enough if you figure out how the class works. Attendance is taken in every class, and even family emergencies are not excused. If you take this class- Buy Chegg.
Dr. Ahlberg is a great lecturer. There are four exams and no final. She pulls some of her test questions from the take home quizzes. You are also allowed to have a cheatsheet. Do not completely rely on the past quiz questions. Many of the students who did worse relied heavily on the past quiz questions. Make sure to understand the material.
The best con teacher at smu
Honestly mea ahlberg is one of the best teachers I have had at SMU. I felt like she truly cared about me and wanted everyone to do as well as they could. She gave so many options for extra credit and doing better in the class. As long as you listen to the lectures and take notes you will do well in this class.
Professor Albherg structured the class with two lectures a week and one work day. The lectures were fast and covered lots of material, but she did a good job of emphasizing the most important aspects. Handed out TONS of extra credit, she just wanted her students to succeed and get good grades! Best prof for 1312
Professor Ahlberg is a great professor. In a course whose design makes it difficult to control the format of the tests, Prof Ahlberg offers lots of room for growth despite not doing well on a major assignment. She is a teacher who deserves your respect, because she will respect you even if you make her life difficult.
Mea Ahlberg is an absolute GOAT. You have 4 exams and no final. Attendance is mandatory, but take it as a study hall if you need it. The tests come directly from a test bank and she gives plenty of extra credit opportunities though discussion board questions and textbook engagement level. If you do your work, you will be rewarded with an A no doubt
Professor Ahlberg is very kind. Tons of extra credit. She is lecture heavy but is very interactive in class. It is very easy to stay engaged and understand material. I advise buying chegg if you end up taking Prof Ahlberg. It will help you get assignments done and understand material. Bottom line, give some sort of effort and you will do well.
Mea Ahlberg is the nicest human on earth. She will do whatever you need to help you do well. Use the textbook and make sure you do all the activiites so you can get into green for mind tap (textbook). Tests arent too hard, not too much work, attendance is mandoatory bnut if you miss your section that day you can go to another section! Take her!!!
Dr. Ahlberg is one of SMU's best professors. While the class I was in was just created during Spring 2023 and needs a little changing this has been the third class I have had with her. She genuinely cares about her students and brings such a positive light and energy to class. Her Macroeconomics and Money & Banking classes are great to take.
Dr. Ahlberg is one of the best professors here at SMU. I have had her for two semesters now and her class was always engaging. Her lectures are funny and insightful and the online textbook we used helped reinforce what we learned in class. I am going to miss not taking her class. Best ECON professor out there.
Really nice!!!!!!!!!
Dr. Ahlberg is really passionate about the course material during lecture and provides lots of resources to study ahead of exams. Attendance, weekly homework and quizzes keep you engaged with the class; as long as you stay on track, you should be just fine and get a good grade. Would definitely recommend Dr. Ahlberg, especially for ECO majors!
the only professor to take for 1311 + 1312. hands out a ton of extra credit (I got 5 points added to my final grade). you absolutely have to attend class, as you only get 2 skips. ECO1311 and ECO 1312 are Instructor Staff on my.smu so make sure you pick the MoWeFr in umph 241 to get her as your prof
Professor Ahlberg is amazing! She has helped me so much in Econ and I know so much more about the subject because of her! I still remember a portion of her class with Inelastic and Elastic graphs from 6 months ago! She is amazing!
Professor Ahlberg is absolutely amazing! Took her for ECO3355 and immediately enrolled in her summer course as well as I really enjoyed her lecture style and class format. could have easily gotten an A as the class is not difficult, but you do have to work for your grade. She is understanding and cares for each and every student. CHOOSE HER!
Mea Ahlberg is an extremely caring professor who is clearly passionate about economics. Summary: - Mindtap significant portion of grade (Easy, but stay on top of work) - Generous extra credit opportunities (Nearly 7 points added to my final grade) - Cheat sheets worked for half of the semester, but I recommend studying as the questions changed
there are a lot of lectures, sometimes the lectures didnt match up with the tests which were hard, but she does offer a lot o extra credit and overall cares a lot about her students
Good lectures, gives extra credit and helps students try to get an A. Attendance is mandatory but you can do other work while she teachs. The lectures are posted on Canvas. The quizzes are easy and the HW isn't too hard. The main 4 exams are what you should definitely study for.
She is mainly lecture based but she does her best to make them enjoyable. I learned a lot in her class, she really tries to give real world examples with everything so you can better understand everything you are learning. A lot of quiz questions can be recycled on the exams except the essay questions, but she will help give a little prep for those
Absolutely love Mea. Took her for a 4 week summer course because I failed Tania's class last spring... she was able to teach so much more content in such little time and cares about your understanding of the material and your well-doing in her class. Attendance is important but she is very understanding and doesnt expect you to be a perfect.
Dr. Mea Ahlberg is a great professor and is very passionate about her subject. She teaches very well and cares about students. Beware of her tardy and absence policy and complete homework on time as these ended up dropping my grade due to incomplete homework and absences. Great teacher overall and very personable and knowledgeable.
She's excellent to just chat with, above being a great professor. Took her for both 1311 and 1312 I would say to definitely find a study group so you can be prepared for the tests, which take questions from the Canvas quiz question bank-I did not do that so my grade was not stellar. Overall, amazing professor!
I was fooled by the ratings so I'm speaking out so you do not have to be. Impossible tests that don't align with her lectures, over hyper and brags about what a good teacher she is when she's only the more popular one because all others are somehow even worse options.
Her class is very lecture-heavy and uses a lot of mindtap for grades and textbook stuff. She gives ample opportunities to earn extra credit and provides students with many ways to be successful in the class.
Solid choice
ahlberg=goat. she's awesome and super funny. she goes through the content fast but if you pay attention you should be able to understand. minimal homework and it helps reinforce understanding very well. tests are 25 questions and pretty straightforward + there's practice tests you can do which are very similar to the test. 100000% would recommend
Nice lady, and offers lots of extra credit opportunities in her class. Decent teacher, but grades you off MindTap hours, and the program often glitches/has issues, so be ready for that. Test questions were either really hard or really easy, so grades will widely vary from test to test. Tests are also open note.
Don't be fooled by these reviews you have been warned. I don't know why these are so high other than the other econ chocies are somehow worse but i would take one of them over this one. She lectures nonstop on stuff that won't be on the exams, too lazy to create her own materials and uses mindtap, which is why nothing aligns. Take someone ELSE.
She's an awesome person and is caring but she teaches straight out of the textbook. All our tests and HW assignments are also all out of the textbook. Her lectures are also quite literally straight out of the textbook. BUT she offers a ton of extra credit opportunities and is so accessible outside of the class to help you and is super kind.
Genuine good person! Wishes for her students to succeed in her class and provides many feasible extra credits to improve their grades. Tests are easy if you use your cheat sheet correctly, her PPTs and Canvas quizzes are extremely helpful for the tests! It is by no means an easy class, prepare to study and weekly work.
Ahlberg is very caring and passionate about her role as a teacher, but her class does not set up students for success and to learn. People will tell you to take her because she is easy and gives extra credit, which is true for the most part, but in the long run it will not be worth it. Studying is time consuming and you just study to take the test.
Professor Ahlberg was my saving grace freshman year. If you are taking micro and macro your freshman year you HAVE to take her class. She offers so many opportunities improve your grades and is very understanding of any issues you may have outside of class that interfere with it. Seriously the best.
Professor Ahlberg was super helpful outside of the class. She gives out tons of Extra Credit and you get note sheet on Exams. You will do well if you utilize your note sheet correctly. Definitely one of the better options for ECO 1311.
Blowoff class, you don't learn anything in the lectures and homework can easily be done with Chegg. Exams are super easy with a good notes cheat sheet. Just copy friends every time. Loads of extra credit opportunities. If you want an easy class, I would highly recommend taking this course. If you actually want to learn econ take another prof.
I really enjoyed her class. She is an amazing teacher. I highly recommend her has a economics professor.
Dr. Ahlberg is the absolute best. Her real passion for teaching really shows with her great attitude and kindness she has for everyone. She is super understanding and a true beam of light. She offers extra credit that helps and is a must-take if you are taking economics at SMU. She is the best. Put in the work and you will get an A.
Decent prof, except nothing she teaches is on the exams. Be sure to buy Chegg for homework help, and clear your weekend to study for exams. You have to use a cheat sheet, but the questions come from a question bank, so you get some really random ones. The class requires too much out of class effort, which is most people's complaints.
Not the best teacher but an easy class to succeed in. Tests are pulled from a bank of the quiz questions and test sheet allowed. Make a shared google doc with about 20 people in the class to create the question bank. Def take her for econ over anyone else.
Took her because of her ratings but they can't be for real. She's the most incompetent professor I have had to date and more like a community college prof with her nannying style of teaching and incessant yapping. They're all so bad at this school so good luck.
Mrs. Ahlberg is a very good professor. She gives many extra credit opportunities to increase your grades and explains concepts well if you pay attention in class. She genuinely cares about helping you do your best in her class and I would definitely retake her. I strongly suggest that you take her if you are doing Micro.
The best professor, if you can take her for Econ I highly recommend. She truly wants you to do well in the class and makes meeting with her extremely easy. Helped me with my grade when I wanted to see what I could do to improve for next time. As long as you go to class, do the work, and show effort you will do well in the class. Highly recommend!
Horrible. Run now before its too late. Mea is all over the place in her lectures, they make no sense, and nothing on the tests does she cover. She refuses to help when students have questions by acting like she didn't understand the question, is severely opinionated, angry towards students. Blames students for "not studying" if they ask a question.
The worst experience of my life, totally unflexible and reads her notes to you, that's the class. She grades so badly that she has to offer extra credit to get us to pass and it's all literally lecture from her poorly read notes. I don't know how she has such high ratings but it is not because she can teach. STAY AWAY FROM HER.
Naw skip her, this was not a good course nor professor and I took her based on her rating. Doesn't teach what she tests on, uses trick questions, makes the tests harder if any of us actually do well, painfully unclear when students ask for clarification Lowest grade of semester and by far. Stay away and take someone else. Consider yourself warned
Professor Ahlberg was an excellent teacher to have as a freshman entering college. Her support and feedback to students makes her one of the best lecturers for both Micro and Macro Economics. She offers several opportunities of extra credit that allow students to improve their grades by a whole letter if willing to do a little extra work.
Economics of Human Resources was a great class with Professor Ahlberg. She brought a positive energy and great lectures to each and every class. She did not read off any notes and her visual presentations were tremendous in learning about different topics. I would highly recommend her for any economics course!
WAAAAYYY too much work for the payout, confusing, nonsensical lectures that aren't connected to what you get graded on and she does not connect concepts during class and leaves us all confused. Did not provide any feedback so you don't know how to do better and irritatingly disorganized course. Strongly do not recommend taking her for anything.
One of my favorite professors at SMU! Professor was great at providing the class with important details we should keep in mind ahead of exams. She really cared about the well being of the class and expects everyone to show up with a great attitude.
Professor Ahlberg was really good at keeping in mind everyone that was apart of her course. She expects students to offer their feedback and advice good and bad and uses it to make the course better even though it was an amazing experience with great lectures and even better teaching.
If you ask for help she just confuses you more and tells you to do online exercises. Lack of clear instructions and material, gets extremely offended if you make any suggestion at all, cannot take any suggestions for improvement at all. When lecturing makes constant mistakes, provides incorrect info repeatedly. Avoid this professor do not take.
Delivers an unrelenting barrage of opinion that has nothing to do with her exams, which you will do poorly on like i did. Lowest grade I ever received was in this course and she is extremely aversive to criticism, clearly, and constantly contradicts herself leaving us all confused. Take literally anyone else but her.
I loved Professor Ahlberg as a person and the class itself was pretty easy but the tests are nothing like what she teaches.
This class ruined my 4.0. Tests make up nearly all of your grade and her lectures do not help in preparing for them. Notes are littered with unnecessary details that won't be on the test and are completely unorganized. Be prepared to teach yourself and spend a lot of time reading the textbook. I took her because of what I read below & regret it.
Professor Ahlberg was awesome to have. She made lectures fun and was very understanding whenever an issue came up. She is a great teacher and the concepts were very easy to understand with her help.
she is over the top about attendance and her tests do not AT ALL match what she lectures on cause she uses premade materials rather than creating her own, used to be okay but she has definitely gotten harder to the point i regreted taking her
the GOAT of micro and macro econ courses at SMU, one of my favorite professors to date, and overall a very genuine and caring person. I would retake her class in a heartbeat. Plenty of extra credit opportunities.
Professor Ahlberg was very communicative about what would be in tests and quizzes throughout the semester and even gave many opportunities for extra credit. Her lectures were very effective and I enjoyed her class a lot. MUST take her micro and macro classes if your a freshman.
Vvery was an excellent teacher and was very helpful to the entirety of our class, which enabled every one of us to try our best.
Worst class I had to date, by far lowest grade I received after two years of classes taken here. She does not teach at all, uses textbook materials rather than creating her own so they never line up with her "lectures" and neither will her tests, very opinionated on topics she should be mentioning in class and, highly defensive to criticism
She was a super confusing teacher who constantly contradicted herself, tests were a lot harder then they needed to be, homework is online and she makes us do that in class instead of actually teaching, the work in class won't match the tests which will mess up your grade like it did mine, overall just really really bad course that hurt my gpa
She cares deeply about her student's success and is always willing to help as long as you don't wait until the day before the exam. Her class is lecture-heavy and she moves pretty quickly, but all around she's a great professor and wants you to do well.
Painfully unclear when in her emails and directions when asked for clarification, like she didn't even bother to hear or read what you were asking, runs through lectures that never show up on the tests, lowest grade of last semester and by far. Stay away and take someone else, you've been warned.
Great teacher, has great lectures and cares about her students. She offers extra credit to help students out. The tests aren't the easiest, but if you study and do your work she is the teacher you want to have for econ.
Class time is totally wasted and she forced you to be there, her tests will absolutely decimated your gpa but she does it in a sneaky way so you are too far along to drop. There are no good options here but she somehow makes it the worse with her smiling and clapping like a gd seal as she does it. I regret fighting to take her, advice: Wheaton
Terrible.
She does offer extra credit and is relatively nice, but her lectures and tests do not align. You practically have to teach yourself entire units, and pray that you get a C on the exam. She's really the only feasible option first year econ, which is why people like her over tania or wheaton.
Absolute worst. If you get her switch out as soon as possible. good luck to whoever is in her class.
Her exams are a tough because she basically makes the questions up, they are not over materials she teaches and you learn nothing in class that will help. There is no alignment between course material and exams, she is obsessed with her reputation on here more than she is with her teaching ability. Used to be easier but now just as hard as tania.
She does nothing but lecture on unrelated materials that will have nothing to do with her exams, and you will not do well on them becuase you have no idea what to study for. Lowest grade I ever received from her class. She is also extremely defensive to criticism on here and clearly tries to spin damage control, also onstantly contradicts herself.
She is a very unskilled lecturer, does not teach to the test, leaves students confused as she is inconsistent and defensive when you ask questions in class, She prides herself on being one of the best teachers of the department and school yet is among the worst i have ever had as you learn nothing in class and have to teach yourself everything.
This professor used to be good but she is no longer and is to be as avoided as the other unnamed one, there is one remaining decent mac/mic prof and you are not looking at her profile, take ew if you want someone who is a skilled professor at teaching the material and has fair exams. This woman ruined my entire semester.
She is an inaccessible professor who doesn't do her job teaching us the things we need to know to be successful. Tests have gotten ridiculously impossible and make no sense with trick questions you've never seen before, prof hostile to questions. If you hate yourself, take this professor.
DO NOT TAKE HER!! I heard that she was a really easy teacher but that's not true. Her tests are impossible and the cheat sheets won't even help you. All the information on her slides are not even on the tests. Her lectures are so boring and she just reads off the slides while no one pays attention. This class was my lowest grade of my entire life.
Some people complain about tests because its easy to get HW answers online and get As on the hw without learning anything but if you do this then you will be less prepared for the test. If you at least half try and study a a little you will be fine. On each test you get a full 8.5x11 note sheet, and there are plenty of extra credit opportunitie
DO NOT BE FOOLED. She is a terrible professor and and so is her course, entirely made up of textbook resources that she doesn't even teach.
Among all the professors I've had, this one stands out as the absolute worst.
Everything you may have heard about her being the "easier" or "better" one is absolutely BS. She has changed and apparently in order to grade more evenly to the other sections. The difference is that at least the other sections have a professor who actually tries rather than standing there reading off the slides and no one can even bear to get thru
Worst professor of my life, lowest grade of my life, worst course experience i can't believe we pay for this. Cannot teach for the life of her, the most boring lectures read from her prefabricated slides, then you test on entirely unrelated prefabricated questions she takes from Mindtap A+ test prep but never taught.
Dr. Ahlberg is the single most caring professor I have ever had at SMU. Economics is hard, but Dr. Ahlberg makes it possible to succeed. You have to work hard, learn the material, and you cannot cheat your way through the class, but Dr. Ahlberg wants her students to succeed and does everything she can to help them. TAKE HER!!!!!!!!!!!
Her sycophants need to stop lying about her because they whole reason we are in this position having signed up for her class is because we believed the good reviews. We were wrong. Stay away from this one if you even value your GPA, SHE IS THE WORST.
Stay AWAY, at least the other teach while she apes a performance through reading slides alone. She is horrible and I can't warn you hard enough to STAY AWAY. Then, after the most lackluster performance in teaching, she starts up with the "nice" act and rains extra credit so you don't hurt her teaching evals, all she cares about.
Mea is one of the best profs Ive had out of the 2 semesters Ive been here. Up to 5 points added to your final grade if you do all the extra credit (thats insane). If you question shes happy to help, you can tell she really cares about her students. Overall if you come to class and pay decent attention while keeping up with the HW you will do fine.
Her grading? Totally subjective! You could know all the material she teaches and still end up with a lousy B. I'm used to straight A's, but thanks to her, my GPA's taking a nosedive.
This class is an absolute disaster, It's the worst I've ever taken. After two years, I got my lowest grade. The teacher doesn't even bother to teach, just regurgitates textbook stuff that doesn't match her lectures or tests. And if you dare criticize her, she gets defensive real quick.
She contradicts herself left and right, her tests are ridiculously hard, and she expects us to do online homework in class instead of actually teaching us anything. Nothing lines up, and it's a miracle if you come out of this course with a decent grade. My GPA took a hit because of her, and I'm still bitter about it.
She rushes through lectures that don't even show up on the tests, and guess what? I got my lowest grade ever last semester. Save yourself the trouble and steer clear of her class. Seriously, I wish someone had warned me but I believed what other people had said about her being the better option. SHE IS NOT THE GOOD OPTION.
She puts on this fake nice act, but its all a facade. I mean the average test scores speak for themselves - they're abysmal. And just when you're about to give her a bad evaluation, she suddenly offers extra credit to save her own skin. It's manipulative and sickening.
She's worthless in lecture, doesn't teach anything useful and just reads straight from the slides, seems unprepared daily about what she is going to say, then expects us to be sudden economists on the exam. My biggest regret, don't make the same mistake.
You're here because you heard this was the professor to take for micro/macro. You heard wrong, things have changed. Take a look around since you're already here. All the recent reviews are what you will experience: random unrelated teaching, tests of no taught content, sarcastic clapping to distract you from your poor performance and evaluations.
Refuses to actual teach a real course despite the majority of her students doing poorly. Instead relies on crap textbook resources she stands there and reads literally verbatim to us every day in the most boring way possible, then uses crap tests she copies from the book but specifically those not covered. Horrible.
The course includes 4 tests, 1 group project, plenty of homework, quizzes, and assignments. Attendance is strictly enforced (class beg & end). Tests are textbook-based, not lecture-based, but handwritten cheat sheets are allowed. 100% attendance, green color in textbook, & discussion board participation for extra credit(+5%). A is manageable
She always try to do everything she can to help you succeed with the class. Great teacher that really cares about her students.
There is no point in coming to class because she doesn't teach what is going to be on the test, but she militantly enforces attendance even though most of us are upperclassman. I do not understand how she received the "good" professor reputation as I have found her lazy in her teaching but maybe it is because all the others are just that bad.
The master of gaslighting, fails to teach what is on the exams, then pretends to not understand why we all don't do well on them.
She is the worst. Now, at the end and after finals, we are entering her reverse-the-villain-arc where she unprofessionally, unreliably, unpredictably increases grades at the very end so you don't poorly review her. You know what would be even better? Teaching the material so we can reliably EARN our grades. The pain and nonsense of not knowing.
Instructor is incredibly difficult to deal with and a stressful experience. No class plan, no interest in hearing other opinions, and no set method for grading.
Unsupportive and unreliable, a detriment to students' learning. You will stress all semester not knowing your grade until it is randomly bestowed upon you. Makes no sense. Avoid this class if possible.
One of the best teachers at SMU!! So much fun. NEED TO TAKE!
Great teacher for political econ, really cares about her students and wants you to win.
I think her class is super fun, but I definitely could have done better. You can attend her lectures during another class period if you can't make ur scheduled time for any reason. I did pretty badly on 1 or 2 tests and still ended with a decent grade. She also lets you have a front-and-back notes sheet for tests and gives plenty of extra credit.
Worst course experience I have had at SMU with a bad professor who randomly assigns grades with the wind. Find someone who can teach or else take your chances not know what grade you will end up with.
Did not enjoy this course at all, forces you to be in class but doesn't bother teaching the material you need to know. Acts like she knows the topics until you question her when she gets very defensive and can't answer your questions. Not a good teacher and I notice that when she has a ton of bad comments, there are a pile of sudden good comments.
Look I think she is a nice person but does not do a good job at teaching. She does not teach what is on the exam so everyone is blindsided by them and does poorly. Then, to save her own skin so don't poorly review her (she watches these constantly), she hands out all these bonus points and final curve. Went from a B- to a B+ overnight but stressful
If youre reading this and wondering if you can take this class and put in a decent amount of effort and thus do decent in the class, you are wrong.
Worst teacher I have had at SMU. Tests are impossible, no matter how much you study. Very pointless class, makes it unnecessarily difficult then tries to deify herself by curving everyone's final grade an insane amount so you don't complain. Worked for a while but now that we all know, we are pissed that we don't just have a good teacher instead.
Professor is rude beyond belief. She is overly strict to a degree that is entirely unnecessary and does not aid students in the way that a professor should. She also shows very little respect for her students. Grades are by whim and whimsy depending on how much you are likely to complain, so complain a lot if you get stuck with her.
amazing professor. she is the goat.
She is not a good teacher and does not even try to help you learn what you will be tested on. She curves your grade at the end but you study the whole semester for no reason.
Cannot teach for the life of her, most boring lectures read from her prefabricated slides, then you test on entirely unrelated prefabricated questions she takes from Mindtap A+ test prep but never taught.
Ms. Ahlberg was hands-down the rudest, least available, least helpful, and worst profs I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Do not take any classes with her. Our class averages for exams were all below -60%. Wish I could give a 0.
Dr Ahlberg is the best professor in the Economics department at SMU. Fun and engaging teaching style. She deeply cares about her students' learning and performance. She has inspired me to become an economist. I will be declaring Economics in Spring 2024
Test heavy. Lectures awful and useless, confusing with no clear outline and an hour of her just reading slides. The tests are just ridiculous. The class only gets more infuriating further down the semester. Good luck if you get stuck with her.
By far one of the most difficult classes I have taken. Study for hours and never got higher then B on the exams, usually Cs. There are only a few exams and attendance is mandatory. Its all lectures so you attempt to pay attention only to find that nothing in lecture will be on the exam. Terrible professor, terrible class.
She changes her mind quite often throughout the semester. And while she will respond to your questions, she does not give clear responses. When we do well on tests she makes the next test completely impossible to do well on. None of her information from lectures will be on the exams.
Professor just regurgitates stuff that doesn't match her lectures or tests. And she gets defensive real quick if you question her about her approach and how it differs from the texts. Tests come from a bank of about 300 questions or so but none of them are on what she taught because she draws them from the text bank rather than lectures
Professor lacks basic communication skills. Can't explain concepts clearly. Doesn't answer questions, brushes off concerns. Makes learning unbearable.
Her tests very much match the textbook and she allowed us a full sheet of notes for each test. This was a summer class so its possible she doesn't do this during the year. She gets sidetracked and yaps a lot about unnecessary things but her lectures match the textbook exactly down to the examples they use.
very scattered lectures, and is very difficult to follow in class because she often uses vague words to explain concepts. Her tests often pick out very slight details on the slides and are difficultly worded. It is definitely possible to do well on the tests but be prepared to memorize a ton of irrelevent facts.
Run the other way. Lecture style was disengaging and felt wasteful. She tends to foster discussion on material that matters the least when exams come around. Really not a fan, grading seems fair and reading isn't useful, if you don't care about the material it might be a tough semester. Save yourself the pain and don't take her classes.
Covers the basics but you have to do so much work on your own to understand her inane endless ramblings, demeanor is horribly off-putting, and she uses a stiff sense of humor that is rude and inappropriately targeted toward students.
Avoid at all costs though none of your options are good here. She makes the hardest tests to make sure no one is cheating and forgets about the fact that we are here to learn and need good grades to enter cox.
Obsessed with attendance but definitely not her own teaching.
Professor Ahlberg is smart, empathetic, charismatic, and funny, making her lectures interesting. However, the class is challenging, especially in a short term. Exams are based on the textbook, so read it and take good notes. One-page cheat sheets are allowed. Quizlet is helpful since the test bank comes from quiz questions ;)
Professor Ahlberg is likable, empathetic, witty, & funny, but very strict on attendance (beg & end). Earn 5% extra credit through perfect attendance, active discussion board participation, & maintaining green status in the textbook. Exams are based entirely on the textbook, so study diligently. Handwritten cheat sheets are permitted during exams.
Prof. Ahlberg is the best Econ prof I have ever taken. She's so sweet and care about her students.Helps us in anyway to succeed in her courses. Lectures are very engaging. If you do your work, you will be golden. She goes above and beyond to make sure we succeed in her courses. She is the absolute best! We need more professor like her!!
More obsessed with attendance and cheating than running a good fair course. Terrible teacher, terrible experience, any other option is better, take it from me as I have had both now.
Horrible and militant about attendance for no reason as coming to class does no good. NOTHING on the tests is covered, drop now now before its too late, she is confusing in her directions and changes her mind all the time about the syllabus, and she refuses to listed to student feedback when we explain how to better organize the course.
Boring lectures that have nothing to do with her tests, useless topics, class not worth your time or money, she doesn't teach, doesn't know how, completely pointless of a class, find another course to take if you care about your GPA at all or need to get into b-school. Worse than the other option.
It doesn't matter how much you study tests are impossible.. Trick questions she never went over, no cheat sheet will help because its on material never covered so it won't be on your cheat sheet obviously, unnecessarily difficult then tries to save her ratings by curving everyone's final grade an insane amount so you don't complain. We're done.
If you want to take a class where you are completely on your own for studying and still ruin your GPA then look no further you have found her.
Clear-cut class. If you put in minimal effort and do the assignments and prepare your one-test sheet as you are supposed to (even given some of the exam test bank via quizzes), then it's hard to do poorly in the class. Lectures are sometimes boring but you can do your textbook reading and quizzes during that time anyways.
Mea doesn't teach the material at all. Lectures are worthless, and she skips crucial topics. Tests are ridiculously hard and not reflective of the lectures. The attendance policy is draconian, skip her if possible or you will regret it/.
Mea's teaching is useless and non-existent. She reads off slides without explaining anything. Her tests are extremely difficult and don't cover material discussed in class, so your cheat sheet won't help at all. Attendance is strictly enforces with no leniency even for legitimate and serious health issues.
This professor was the worst. Mea doesn't teach, just yaps endlessly. Her tests are impossible with questions that have nothing to do with what little she covers in class. The attendance policy is absurdly strict. She's completely unreasonable and unhelpful. Hope you don't have a death in the family as attending funerals is unexcused on test days.
Horrible experience, heavy lecture class, all she does is blab nonstop excessively about her opinions which never show up on tests and she doesn't seem to know anything about the actual topics in the book which ARE on tests, completely unorganized and refuses to acknowledge student suggestions or feedback on how to improve content, gets defensive.
Mea is the worst. She doesn't teach, just lets the online book do everything for her then gives absurdly hard tests, and has a ridiculous attendance policy. Shes unorganized and her lectures are pointless and unrelated to the exmas so there is no reason to attend yet there is also forced attendance. She's a terrible instructor if you need to learn.
Great professor, Dr Ahlberg was very helpful in how she conveyed what we needed to learn in the course. She prepared us well for the tests and the class was very straight forward in how we went about the daily process.
Literaly taught nothing that was going to be on the test then forced you to be there anyhow. Worthless is a kind word for this whole course and professor.
Very scattered lectures unrelated to the material she tests on, is very difficult to follow in class, tests often pick out very slight details on the slides and are difficultly worded. It is definitely possible to do well on the tests but be prepared to memorize a ton of irrelevant facts that she never teaches
Plays the same games she does in 1311/12 with ridiculous exams then extra credit at the end to save her rmp page and student evaluation. Truth is that we are all aware now and letting everyone, including ahlberg, know. She makes sure she gets the right number of As through trickery and falsehoods, take someone else where you have a shot at learning
She goes very fast during lecture & is then annoyed when she has to go back a slide. Constantly irritated if you don't go along with her antics in class. When people asked her for help she kept repeating the same thing over and over. Talks ab how smart she is and uses every chance to brag about herself.I have never seen a worst teacher in my life.
This was hands-down the absolute worst course I have ever taken, and she was hands-down the least helpful, and worst profs I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Do not take any classes with her. She yaps nonstop ab nothing to do with the class then her clapping antics try to distract you from her not doing her job. Wish I could give a 0.
Dr. Ahlberg puts a lot of passion into her lectures to make them interesting and fun. Participation is required, but she gives some leeway and is very communicative. There is a decent amount of group presentations, but the grading has a heavier weight on individual work rather than the whole group being graded.
Prof Alhberg is incredible! She is very accessible for office hours, provides extra credit to nearly every exam and final grade for perfect attendance and "green level" in Mindtap (the textbook), worth up to three bonus points all together. The two semesters I had her were truly rewarding and the class is engaging and well-organized.Take her 100%!!
DON'T take this class. She doesn't even make the tests, and if you don't do well on the first one, kiss your grade goodbye. Showed up for all of the lectures, studied, attended office hours, and still barely passed the class. She is the worst and the only person not saying so is her. Does these "clapping" antics as a way to distract you from the C.
She tries to distract you with all her antics like the flying pig in San Marcos, meanwhile creating tests that have no bearing with lectures cause she uses old stock material since she doesn't put any effort in on her own. Then, tries to regain our sympathy with false curves toward the end so we don't bomb her evals, while still bombing our grades.
Am a 4.0 student and I have never gotten grades like these even looking it up and you find your answers are correct and marked wrong. She spends more time trying to be "cute" with her mannerisms and demeanor than she does teaching, then tries to distract you with her clapping bit, meanwhile slams your gpa at the end after evaluations close, trust.
One of the most time consuming courses at SMU. The homework is unhelpful (get Chegg), and even Mea struggles with solutions. Notes are allowed for tests, but with 20 random questions from a 400+ bank, they're pointless. Lectures are irrelevant to the tests, and attendance is mandatory with no exceptions for illness.
Tons of drama with limited instruction. To succeed you must teach yourself everything in the book or you will not succeed. She does not teach anything on the exam, does her song and dance to distract us from this fact, while also forcing attendance compliance when that time could otherwise be used to self-teaching. Needs to go and NOW. Hate her sm
She is a great teacher; study from cengage and you will do very well. Do the HW and quizzes on time.
Very enthusiastic! Interactive slides and lectures. Weekly homework with only 4 major tests. Use Cengage Test prep questions to prepare for the test, and you'll be fine. NO FINAL!! Do the discussion boards for extra credit.
I was able to handle econ so I figured I would give this a try, well I could never have been more wrong. I have never dropped a course at SMU before until I took her, hands down STAY AWAY. The tests are ridiculous and she then offers all curving at the end so you don't bomb her ratings and evaluations. Don't fall for it.
Has a really bad attitude about teaching and toward students. I asked why she couldn't make test questions herself rather than using a test bank and she pounded her fists down on the table angrily and said she has many priorities. Guess teaching isn't one of them, maybe she's here for research, but just avoid her lest your GPA suffers.
Do not take this professor. Really interesting material but he does a very poor job of teaching it. Tests are inconsistent with lecture material and he is incredibly hard to meet with outside of class.
She tries to be cool and cute but instead comes off as desperate to be liked by undergrads when she should be spending that time teaching like the adult she is. None of the econ profs are any good though so good luck with that.
She does an awful job of instructing and never holds office hours. You are expected to teach yourself everything as what she talks about has nothing to do with the exams. Then she prances about trying to be funny all semester long, bestowing extra credit at the end just so you don't bomb her teaching evaluations with the truth. Useless lectures.
I loved her. She's the goat. So many extra credit points available if you are willing to be all in. Its not an easy class though, and probably was the most work for me. I ended with an 89 before extra credit, then a 96 after credit was applied! she never failed to make me laugh and be engaged
Lectures are obscure. Wording on exams was confusing. Avoid if possible.
I LOVE MEA AHLBERG!!! I was so excited to go to her class every day. She lectures every class for the whole time, but if you complete the problems & applications/do work outside of class you will do well. She offers lots of extra credit (2 points - perfect attendance, 2 points - extra credit discussion boards, 2 points - high activity on Mindtap)
Because she does not make her own test, the material given on an exam is much more different than what we learn in class. The professor will often provide examples for problems which are not viewed on the tests.
Forces you to attend the most nauseating lectures known to man, and never lets you out early. The "cheat sheet" is useless cause the exams are all from a bank she never teaches, then she whips out all the extra credit as instructor evaluations are being completed so you don't bomb her, then your GPA tanks. That's the course experience. Run.
Pretty straighforward if you just attend class, and review the slides before exams. Don't really even have to pay attention during class, but be there for attendance. One group project, but nothing too difficult. Lots of extra credit offered. One of the better Econ professors.
Forces us to come to class when there
Do not take Mea's class. She doesn't teach, and her tests are ridiculously tough. The attendance policy is unfairly strict. She's disorganized and often unprepared. If you value your GPA and sanity, stay far away from her courses.
Mandatory attendance in this day and age when we're paying 90k/yr is ridiculous, especially if, as a professor, you utterly refuse to teach anything that is going to be in the exam. Either we self-teach and get the freedom necessary to do so or you do your gd job. Can't have it both ways MiA.
I enjoyed taking her class as I found it to not be that hard. She lectures a lot, but I never really paid attention. Her tests do have hard questions, but as long as you write down information from her slides on your cheat sheet, you will be fine. She gives a lot of extra credit, which will boost your grade a lot.
She lectures non-stop, with a focus on trying to be cute and clever and liked by students a quarter of her age. Clearly, she does not teach so be prepared for her lecture to be an unorganized mess and chaotic with no point and nothing on the exam to be spoken of.
Reads her notes to you, that's the class. She grades so badly that she has to offer extra credit to get us to pass and tests are all vocab literally written word-for-word from her texts. Just write everything she reads down and get someone who already took her to help with quizzes/exams.
Professor Ahlberg is kind and approachable. If you face difficulties in class, reach out to her—she's always willing to help. The course is challenging, but if you attend class and complete the assignments, you can do well. She also gives small bonuses for good attendance to improve your overall score.
Truly not a good professor when you consider what she teaches and what she tests. The complaints of these two critical fields not aligning are fair. She then supplements her poor teaching with massive extra credit right as evaluations come out so we don't bomb her in them. It worked for years, now we're trying to warn all others. Take BW I you can.
Great overall professor, made the learning process so simple even though the course material was extremely long and difficult. I would recommend going to ask for help directly, after class or just by sending an email if you begin struggling. She helped me a lot with any of my questions in or outside of class.
The material isn't hard but lectures are slide heavy, her antics get old really quick and you have to show up. Tests cover 3-4 units with bonus questions which are mostly unrelated to the material. Most students use chatgpt or don't pay attention. Take advantage of extra credit chances, there are lots. You can also use cheat sheets on the tests.
Don't even bother trying to guess the exam questions, it won't work, and you'll just end up dropping the class or failing. If you actually study, you can do really well. She's super understanding and helps a lot. If you need extra help, definitely go to her review sessions!
The cheat sheet for her test should be all the information and examples from her lecture slides. Little words and phrases will be referenced so dont overlook any of the info even if it seems unimportant.
There is no point being in class and nobody pays attention, which is even more distracting as she has no classroom management with her being so people-pleasing. Self study the book then do al the extra credit. That's the only combination that makes As in her class. Better, take Li.
She was a bad teacher this past semester and I was so disappointed as I thought she was supposed to the better one. Regret not taking another Professor.
The problem with Mia is that she's all a façade. She fails to teach the subject in terms of what will be on the exams, wastes our time with her clapping/rallying antics trying to distract us from our grades so we still "like" her, then bombs the scores at the end so she can meet the department requirements. At least TJ is up front ab being a...
Lecture was unbelievably boring and irrelevant...There is no point in attending bc they have nothing to do with her tests but you are FORCED to attend or else no one would. She is insufferable. I wish I'd never taken this class because it needlessly brought my GPA down even though I worked hard.
WAAAAYYY too much work for an intro course and she is insanely confusing w nonsensical lectures that aren't connected to what you get graded on and she does not connect concepts during class and leaves us all confused. Autogrades so you don't get actual feedback on how to do better. Strongly do not recommend taking her for anything.
I never thought I would post a review until I had the displeasure of taking this professor. Lectures are nearly incomprehensible. There is original work but rather materials from supplemental books materials, meaning she literally does NOTHING but parrot back pre-made garbage. Test averages were consistently abysmal. Avoid at all cost.
Long boring lectures but better than alternative professors. She is willing to work with students. allows a cheat sheet on tests. 1 group presentation. lots of extra credit.
Being better than ther other crappy options ain't quite the compliment. She never stops talking and it's so annoying. Cheat sheets no help because she doesn't teach what's in the exam so you have to put the whole book on them which is impossible. Extra credit is built into the course to make her the “good guy” at end of semester. This is known.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. None of her lectures match up with anything on tests, I just relied on the book, and even when doing that, the tests still had nothing to do with what she told us to read. Won't provide notes if absent, even excused, her tests blindside you and then she tries to get back in your good graces so you don't poorly review her.
Watch out comments are disappearing again cause she's more obsessed with her reputation than her teaching. Can't teach worth jack s and your grade will suffer for it. Nothing on the exams line up to her lectures and she baseless accuses people of cheating
This professor is all the wrong. Fake nice only to lure you in then slams you at the end enjoying your suffering when you can't get into cox bc of her one grade. Sporadic teaching, impossible exams that don't match, and horrible, painful lecture ALL DAY that you're forced to attend.
The workload, overly harsh grading, and utter lack of teaching quality was completely inappropriate for a class she doesn't even seem competent to teach. Absolutely miserable experience.
She is not only the worst teacher I have ever had, she treats us like we're in fifth grade with required attendance even though her classes and lectures are completely worthless and will cover literally nothing on her exams. She also uses pre-fab materials from the book publisher, which is inconsistent with her dated lectures, is why we all fail.
An objectively terrible professor.
extremely boring class, professor is rude and dismissive when you contact about attendance/due dates and treats the class like they are elementary schoolers with attendance.
Avoid Prof. Mea's class if you can. She doesn't teach the material, and her tests are unreasonably difficult. The attendance policy is strict and unfair, totally unreasonable as if we're children she is babysitting over. She's unorganized and unapproachable. It's been a terrible experience. Grades do not align with effort or intellect
Lectures make no sense, a lot of ranting and repetitive. Went to office hours to get feedback but at the end its useless she is no help at all. Expects you to read for a class that is an elective, completely not reasonable.
I can understand the complaints. As an upperclassman, she lacks talent in teaching and spends her effort in trying to be amusing, which is not what we're here for. instead of using performative clapping, yapping, just TEACH THE SUBJECT. She does not teach what you will be tested over. Grades suffer.
This was a super confusing teacher, she contradicted herself very very often, tests were a lot harder than they should have been, homework is worthless and not related to tests, tests are your entire grade, insane about attendance, obsessed with bits and performances to be "cutesy" rather than actually teach. Sad.
The best teacher in the Econ department at SMU Her classes are very clear in criteria and she makes it easy to get an A. Plenty of extra credit and engaging lectures as far as econ goes. Ahlberg allows back to back note sheets for all exams, making ti easy if you put the effort in
Probably my favorite professor at SMU thusfar, must take her course.
She uses bad publisher materials to test from, teaches stuff that must come from before so nothing matches and she literally does nothing but yap all day long. The grades are automated, the tests are textbook gen, hw too, this is the laziest teacher of all and she spends the bulk of her time dancing around trying to be popular among undergraduates
She will micromanage and give vague feedback that really doesn't help at all, the grading seems simple but she will find something to trick you with.I was one of her better students who actually engaged in her class and I still had to work too hard for my grade.Take another prof all the other prof. are so better (other than t) AVOID!!!.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! She is a bad lecturer, but is horrible when it comes to grading. PAINFUL attendance policy that doesn't allow for any unexcused absences. DOES NOT CURVE ANY GRADES in relation to the rest of the class. No one in my class got a perfect score on the midterm
She is not a good professor and is the only person saying she is. Not a good teacher doesn't make her own materials so you don't know what to study even with a cheet sheat which is what she loudly exclaims/points to. Better than tj but that doesn't make her good.
Professor Ahlberg is hands down the best teacher at SMU. Take this class.
She's okay, lots of extra credit plus the tests aren't hard so easy A, but if you actually want to learn econ she's not for you. Definitely one of the better econ professors on campus, but that doesn't say much. Two homeworks due every monday and you get three attempts.
You hear different things and it's because she's the best of the worst possibilities. Doesn't teach well but tests are online so easy A with that and extra credit.
Worst teacher. Lectures are slow and horrible, teacher makes the class very boring, and no one wants to participate. Finished with a grade two letter grades below what I was supposed to receive and deserved and she refuses to round grades up from a .63 to the next grade which would completely change my grade. Do not take this teacher.
No good. She's more concerned about what people think of her and being "fun" in class than making tests that make ssence and match her lectures. Cheat sheets don't help when the material taught has nothing to do with the exams.
She is very nice and smart
I LOVE HERRRR she is so funny and really cares about her students. She gives so many opportunities for you to pass, so if your grade is suffering, its probably on you. All assignments are online and you are allowed a full sheet of paper as a "cheat sheet" for your exams. No final exam. She is amazing.
Oh my. I have learned nothing from her lectures. Pulls ALL test questions from MindTap, but her slides seem to not even align with the textbook... 😭. Super hard to read too. HER STUdY GUIDES ARE USELESS. She adds 4 percentage points to your grade if you have perfect attendance and green in MindTap. If it weren't for that... would've been screwed.
TESTS AND ATTENDANCE POLICIES ARE RIDICULOUS. You can't go back on tests for no reason at all and this shyte pmo. Do not take her and thank gd we have other options beyond tank tho I hear their bad to. F Econ.
She really cares about her students and wants to help them succeed. She offers a ton of different extra credit opportunities so that it makes it impossible for you to fail. The only downside is the lectures are long and the slides she presents are useless for studying for the tests. Attendance is mandatory but she offers a ton of make up dates.
sad sad sad
lectures and homework fail to align with the content of his tests, dismissive attitude towards questions doesn't respond to emails. Grading is harsh and includes material not adequately covered in class, making the learning experience unnecessarily challenging.
Dr. Ahlberg is one of the best professors at SMU. She makes her lectures very interactive and strives to keep her students engaged. If you pay attention in class, you will do well in the class. She ensures each student has all the resources to succeed on exams, and she is very caring and checks in on those who fall behind or need help.
The brief time spent in Dr. Ahlberg's class was enough to create more interest in Economics than already existed. I might explore taking another class with her in the future.
Professor Ahlberg is one of the best professors I've had. She's passionate about what she teaches and wants everyone to succeed. If she's teaching any class take it. Attendance is mandatory, but honestly if you're not showing up to class, why are you in college? She makes herself available outside of class, will hop on Zoom during the wk/weekends.
One of the kindest and most supportive professors I've had. I took her International Economics class over the summer, and I can't recommend her enough. She genuinely cares about her students' success and is always easy to reach outside of class. She even offers extra credit opportunities during exams, which shows how much she wants you to do well.
Not only a great human, but she also deeply cares about students and gives endless opportunities to succeed. The class is interesting and applies to more real-world scenarios than other econ classes. Overall, it is very easy compared to other upper-end econ electives. Would take again in a heartbeat.
She is a very good professor and her class is easy to follow, if you are participating in her class into the extra credit you will do well in her class.
Overall great teacher highly recommend if struggling to understand economics great will extra credit opportunities and one of the best teachers ive had here.
My experience was excellent. I felt she cared for her students. The lecture itself was organized, and she explained it well with lots of examples. Daily quizzes & homework for each of the chapters were also good, re-enforcing the materials. The lecture slides had lots of examples and was helpful to use for studying to prepare for the exam. Grade A
Mrs Ahlberg is very respectful and nice of your time. One of the best teachers at the university, and very understanding and wants you to be successful
Dr Ahlberg is one of the BEST professors at SMU. She gives clear grading criteria and provides plenty of extra credit opportunities to help you succeed. She is always in a good mood and willing to help you wherever needed. Homework is online and for tests, she lets you fill out a notes sheet that you can write down as much information as you need.
Favorite Economics teacher at the school. All you have to do is show up.
I've posted many times and don't know what's happened to them EVERY TIME. It's like she's severely reactive to criticism when she should be listening and learning. VERY poor quality teaching, never teaches anything related to the materials because she doesn't even write the test questions, she is obsessed with attendance and cheating, BAD BAD.
Professor Ahlberg is one of the best instructors I've had. She's passionate, wants everyone to succeed, and is always available to help, even on weekends. Attendance is required, but you get 4 free absences with no penalty. If she's teaching anything, definitely take it!
Her class is only lectures. Homeworks are not hard. I recommend going to class everyday because it helps your grade in the end. She gave a lot of extra credit points at the end of the semester which helped everyones grade, however her tests are long and confusing. You cannot check over your work on the test, which hurt my grade.
You will learn nothing from this course... 😭 ALL test ?s from MindTap, but her lectures and slides don't even align to the text, so you're wasting your time in the REQUIRED attendance course. HW easy, useless, not worth the small points, tests will ruin your grade but she slams you with extra credit at the end so you don't complain, 4 points.
Professor Ahlberg is by far one of the kindest and easiest economics professors to work with at SMU. You do need to complete the readings and reading related assignments in this class, but if you keep up with this work, it will be easy to get a good grade! Take advantage of the one-page cheat sheets for tests because they will help you immensely.
She doesn't teach — just fills time. Tests are from a site she clearly doesn't review herself. Office hours feel like a social club for certain students. You'll pass if you ignore her and just study the software. Sad but true.
You literally have to teach yourself everything in this course. She doesn't write her own tests and then when we don't do well, she ponders why as if it's some world mystery. Laziest teacher ever, dumbs down her lectures like middle school bc that's all she's capable of knowing, then uses online test questions from a bank that she doesn't teach.
I am an A student all the way and this is the first class that I ever made anything below an A. HORRIBLE as a prof, ridiculously rude when you ask a question or are confused, leaves out all details that she purposely grades on, ALL her tests are premade from the publishers so nothing matches which is why you have to READ if you even hope to ace it.
Nightmare.
The topics aren't even hard except she doesn't know how to teach. We're paying $5k a semester for her to read slides and notes to us that aren't even going to be tested in AND WE HAVE TI ATTEND.
Took her for both 1311 and 1312. She's a nice lady who's accommodating, lots of extra credit and wants you to do well. Tests are hard and it's frustrating not to be able to go back once you move to the next question. Best Econ teacher by reputation and I would agree. Homework sucks but get you ready for the tests. Rounded me both semesters.
This class has made me extremely frustrated and upset on multiple occasions. She does not know what she is talking about, talks in circles, follows no schedule. She is stressful because she gave random tests that were incredibly specific. No grades are given until it is too late to do anything about them. If you are taking for a cc, avoid.
Oh my. I learned nothing from her lectures... 😭. Horrible horrible horrible 😂😂
I do not care for her.
Obsessed with attendance and not her own teaching. Bad bad badddd
This teacher does not explain anything well, and when you get to tests it is nothing like what you learned in class. She is extremely picky in her grading and doesnt tell you what she expects. The class average for the first test was probably a 70% highly dont reccomend.
Before this class I've never received a grade lower than 95. Just barely passed because she is such a terrible teacher. She also don't teach and grades based on her own OPINIONS. Do not take her.
Started hopeful, left wondering how this person is allowed to teach. No structure, no substance, just rambling and personal oversharing. I learned more from group chats than I ever did in class. Deeply disappointing.
Took her first semester freshmen year. Would advise against taking her, not because she is horrible but because she is a really poor teacher This class is my only B+ ever at SMU and haunts me till this day. I put in so much, went to all her office hours, and could not do well in this class bc she refuses to teach the test's concepts.
Lazy lazy lazy
Mea does not make fair attempts to actually teach the material, so you will be required to learn it on your own. Basically she just rambles about nothing that will be tested, meaning you have to do the reading yourself or memorize the test bank.
She is a low quality teacher and all she does is lecture about random concepts. Tests are from a test bank that is available online. If we could skip class to memorize the test bank that would be fine if she forces you to also be in class effectively wasting your time twice.
tries to hard to be cutesy and popular with her days of the week bit when she should be spending more time on understanding the material she is supposed to be presenting so that it is understandable, do not recommend
Mindtap does more work than she does
Professor Ahlberg is one of the kindest people I have ever met. She is unbelievably supportive and understanding. The course is very clear and informative. She has great lectures, is incredibly enthusiastic, and ready to help you whenever you need it. I highly encourage students to take her class. I thank her for being such an amazing professor!
Her lectures are overwhelming, disorganized, and impossible to process. She doesn't care about students or their success. If you need an easy credit or enjoyable class, AVOID AT ALL COSTS! TERRIBLE!!!
She is hilarious and so sweet! Super easy to talk to and very understanding. Also, her tests aren't that bad and you just have to study the material! she also uses a lot of analogies and examples in class to make learning the material easier
She runs class like a strict high school, banning electronic notes and not allowing students to leave. Her lectures are overwhelming, disorganized, and impossible to process.
Total waste of a class. You're forced to show up for lectures that don't help with anything. She doesn't understand the subject and relies on the textbook program to handle it all. Definitely avoid if you want real instruction.
She is very sweet and offers a lot of extra credit. The tests are hard and the lectures are super hard to understand. She is very confusing and it is hard to keep up at times. Offers a sheet of notes on the test but has to be handwritten. All of the homework in on the textbook platform which she relies on for the entire class. I would retake.
Her tests are very hard and she is very confusing. Her lectures make zero sense and you have to teach yourself the tire time hoping you get the right question on the online exam that she doesn't even write. She's lazy, confusing, and makes inappropriate jokes.
DO NOT TAKE HER.. I heard that she was a really easy teacher but that's not true. Her tests are impossible and the cheat sheets won't even help you. All the information on her slides are not even on the tests. Her lectures are so boring and she just reads off the slides while no one pays attention. This class was my lowest grade of my entire life.
Ahlberg is a great teacher if you pay attention and take notes. She expects you to do the work and show up to class. She also gives a bunch of extra credit at the end of the semester, grade went from a B- to A- in the last two weeks of the class. The online platform she uses for homework is hard to get used to but really easy once I figured out.
Great teacher
Amazing. 100% recommend
She is no good. She relies on fake software to do everything for her because she's lazy, doesn't lecture because she doesn't understand it. Gives extra credit to make sure you onto drown her in bad reviews at the end. That's the entire class and it sucks.
Funny, and can tell she has a good heart. But at the end of the day you aren't going to get an A.
Tests decide your entire fate plus the extra credit she throws in at the end to prevent you from bailing her on her evaluations. You can disguise bad teaching all you want with being cutesy but when you rely on software to do your job and can't explain basic concepts, you're a bad teacher.
Not a good professor relies on bits and trying to be pals with students rather than actually teach which is a problem bc it leaves your grade at risk. Tons of extra credit at the end but she does that so you don't complain on her evaluations that she forces you to take for more extra credit.
Took this for QA cc. SO MUCH HW that drove me insane. I did not listen at all in class but cheat sheet on the test got me 100s. I'm not an econ major so the content was terrible for me but she really tries to make it fun and she's genuinely funny. If you show up, do the homework, do the cheat sheets, you should get an A.
Econ at SMU is pretty hard as a whole, everything in Cox's is pretty hard but I think that Ahlberg is a great Prof, she has study groups pre exam on the weekends and will do a lot to help a student if she sees that yours genuinely trying in her class. If not, she will not meet you at all in anyway.
She constantly goes off topic and is not very familiar with the information she is teaching. If she doesn't like you or think you're trying hard enough, she won't help you for any reason.
She is very unorganized with due dates and makes guidelines very confusing for assignments. The tests and quizzes are pretty impossible no matter how much you study.
She is not a good teacher and while everyone knows it she's like slightly less worse than some of the others?
She is very kind and makes lectures entertaining. The most GOATED part about her is by the end of the semester, you can up your final grade by 6 extra points by either having 100% attendance (she offers a couple make-up classes, easy), answering simple discussion posts, easy, and by ending Mindtap in green status.
Mea is fooling no one with her end of semester extra credit palooza. She's upping scores now so we don't bomb her teaching evaluations and then slams us with the exam that will drop our scores. Shes manipulative teacher but the better of the lot & why we take her. I think I'd have preferred Tania after seeing my friends notes tho. She teaches.
Kinda predicates most of her course on the fact that there are a lot of chances at extra points at the end of the semester. Good to fall back on but not that helpful if you're actually struggling with the course. She also encourages looking up the answers for homework so as to not have to teach. Lectures went nowhere.
By far one of the best professors at smu, her Lectures are never boring and she cares about her students.
Her being the "easier" or "better" one is absolutely BS. She is either just as hard or changed things up to grade more evenly to the other sections. The difference is that at least the other sections have a professor who actually teaches rather than reads slides that have absolutely nothing to do with exams. She substitutes extra credit for skill.
Don't expect this to be an easy class, test two average was under 50 for my class and I've yet to see everyone finish a test on time. This class is what you make of it if you show up everyday and go to gpt you'll probably do fine. She's manipulative tho with her extra cred and evals and fooling nobody.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Doesn't teach at all. You'll learn nothing in class. Very rude when you ask questions.
