Had her for pre-calc. She's not terribly clear if you ask me. I never knew what to expect on the weekly quizzes. She doesn't require/grade any homework. There are tons of extra credit opportunities. I don't feel like I learned much from the class though. She's a very nice woman, but I just couldn't learn from her. She tries, she just isn't clear.
She is a horrible teacher, her tests are ridiculously long and her quizzes are ridiculous. She expects you to devote all of your time to this class. Don't take this class unless you are only taking one class. She made me change my major so I didn't have to take her again!
Class was alright. There is no requirement to do homework but it needs to get done. TONS of extra credit. That is what saved my grade. Sometimes hard to understand. Takes a little while to get used to.
do her suggested problems! they ARE the quizzes and her quizzes ARE the tests a liuttle effort in her class goes a LONG way
She cares.
there is so much to cover it gets very overwhelming. almost half of the points for her class occur within the last week of class. you can't put things off or you will fall behind. extra credit makes up for it but it is a really stressful class.there is a test withing the 1st week of class u must pass or you will be dropped. get study guide before
Not a good teacher. Her test are way too long to finish. I honestly feel like im in elementary school when i'm there. I feel like me as a student could do a better job teaching then her. There is a lot of extra credit and stupid assignment for a college level class. DOn't take her
Worst math professor ever. Doesn't explain anything and goes really fast.
she was very approachable n she actually tried to help us succeed
Not recommended. I believe she is a nice lady but skips steps and when you ask her to review she just says exactly what she said before. Not helpful... take this class at your own risk :)
i failed just about every test, but she offers so much extra credit that i passed the class with an A. take advantage of ALL the extra credit opportunities and you can pass this class. she is a very nice lady.
She rarely actually went over any math. She spends most days talking about projects. We are all expected to learn the math on our own and spend at least half the quarter if not more being taught be each other. She refused to help any students from my group with any questions we had about any of the math, days before the final!
She is a very nice lady, but her class is difficult. Her tests have easily 2 hours of problems on them and she expects you to get them done in only an hour, and she makes her tests incredibly difficult, even if you do all your homework.
Worst teacher I have ever had. I tried very hard in the class and barely passed. I went to the tutor center for help and showed a different math teacher a test and she told me we were being taught calc stuff and that her as a teacher would never put these things on a test. She moves too fast through the class and expects you to teach yourself.
Expects you to teach yourself and spend all your time on this class saying we should be studying several hours a day which is unrealistic. Taught as if we should already know what she was teaching us which defeats the purpose of teaching. Would never recomend her.
The Worst teacher at CBC, she wants to teach us how to be good teachers which is impossible because does not know how to teach! She thinks her class is the most important and expects the student to study for multiple hours every night. What ever she teaches in class is 10 times harder on the tests.. If you can just avoid her!
She is a really awesome and nice lady, but her class is hard. She is not very good at explaining things, if you ask her to explain something she just complicates it more. Like I said shes really awesome... just not at teaching. Oh and warning - my final was 3 full pages front n back of hard calc problems
Calc is not something people walk through but she tries to make it as easy as she can. Lots of extra credit, provides test keys from last quarter, and is great at explaining why concepts and rules exist. For higher level math, this can be very important. I loved having her and would take her again. You'll get the grade you work for in her class.
Extra Credit = Passing the Class. On the other hand don't expect to learn very much in class time or from her. You'll have to teach yourself for the most part. Harshly graded tests/quizzes, some of which may all compose of trick questions. I don't recommend her...
If you work hard and do the homework, you can't help but pass the class.
test keys and worksheets are REALLY helpful!
Nice lady but never goes over any material in class that is on quizzes or tests.Really hard class expect to spend at least two hours a day trying to teach yourself the material.I'm a 3.5-4.0 student and barely passed this class
This professor does everything in her power to help you succeed. If you fail, you didn't try.
Work hard. Play hard. Learn math. Lots of projects, but they are fun!
Very helpful, gives notes, explains steps in detail
There are class notes and test keys that are a help. The quizzes are like the homework problems.
very helpful. She makes you learn it.
This class is the most fun I've had in math.
She loves this class! Follow her directions and her rubrics she gives you. She gives fun projects that help with teaching. She is a really great teacher who is passionate about teaching. Be creative with your projects and have fun! She is very nice! Quizzes are usually over what she teaches. I am also taking her for Math 172 and 173!
good teacher
She makes the tests over problems you've already seen... then she gives you detailed keys for tests and worksheets. If you do the work, you'll pass the class.
I learned after the first test that she really does expect us to put in the time. I did better after I started taking it seriously.
Tough material, but with all the extra worksheets and help, the teacher made it not only do-able, but actually easy. Good explanations.
She makes it easy to learn and get a good grade.
very straightforward. no surprises.
Yes, you do need to come to every class and learn how to work the problems to get a good score. Just because its for ECE doesn't mean its fluff.
i didn't know math could be this much fun. We bought toys instead of book. We discover math by playing with shapes and stuff. I don't get it all, but I'm getting a lot.
If you come to class and do the work, she does everything she can to help you get through. Study the quizzes to do well on tests.
If you start missing class, you're a goner. If you come to class and do the work, it's a breeze, since she gives you access to all the old quiz and test keys.
She is a kind, non-judgmental lady, very enthusiastic about her work. She offers tons and tons and tons of extra credit, and you get second chances on your quizzes and tests. I even had the option to take my final twice and she counts the higher grade. I came every day and studied at least an hour a day with a classmate and the class was a breeze.
A very nice, fair lady. She does everything she can to help you pass. Tests and quizzes are difficult. Do all the extra credit that is offered.
She's nice and cares a lot about you, but don't let that fool you. She's weirdly inconsistent--she'll let you take an hour on "20 minute" quizzes yet no extra time for tests even when there's no class after yours. If you don't pass the final exam, she will give you a 0.0 as your grade, which is NOT mentioned anywhere in her syllabus/addendum.
This class will be a challenge for you if you do not come to class, do the homework, and take advantage of the extra credit. Where time and effort is put in, you will be EXTREMELY happy with your grade. Very nice lady. You have access to all old tests and quizzes.
She has folders containing her previous tests and quizzes with the answers and step by step how to solve the problem. Overall just do all the extra credit and study the previous tests and you'll get an A.
I have always had a hard time with math, but I have never failed I class. I did all the possible extra credit received 1.7 which is not passing. Almost 80% of the class was failing before the final. And I had a B+ heading in so. Avoid her if possible
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you are taking calculus for the first time. DOES NOT GIVE enough time on the test and the tests are very LENGHTHY. BE WARNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! opt out... please. I got a 1.8 and went to a tutor twice a week. and the book doesn't help AT ALL. ...
If you want to pass, do every bit of extra credit offered, otherwise, good luck. Treats students like they are still in high school (or younger). 75% of the class is going up to the blackboard to do problems like you're back in 5th grade. Inconsistent grader on tests, which are way too long for the time allotted.
Doesn't explain things well enough. I'm roughly a 3.2-3.7 student and this is literally the first class I've failed in my life. I recommend a different professor for math if you're just trying to get your foot in the door. I often found myself embarrassed up in front of the class. Her teaching style isn't conducive to learning subject material.
Professor Bartrand sometimes doesn't explain things as well as you may need, but she's there to help you if you need it. She's very nice, sweet, and passionate about her work. She offers lots of extra credit and allows you access to past quiz and test answers. I really liked her! I would take her again! :)
Professor Bartrand has been such a joy. She's the kindest, quirkiest lady! She gives very, very detailed lectures about each topic, including applications, and clear ways to practice the material. There's a quiz for every section, three tests throughout the year, and a final. She gives tons of extra credit, so have no fear! Great teacher :)
Worst teacher I've had. Goes way off topic during lectures and treats the class like children. She doesn't give enough time for the tests and her grading is inconsistent. I pretty much had to teach myself everything. The extra credit is the only thing that kept me passing. I don't suggest this class.
She seldom explains. Doesn't explain well. She gives extra credit. Textbook required. I don't recommend her. We got a quiz every week. Too many questions in the test and no enough time to answer.
Great teacher! Our class really had a lot of fun!! Just follow her instruction and don't stress- you'll be fine. Participate in class and study groups to get the most out of it. Do the homework, the assignments and get your questions answered. I am usually pretty bad at math but Mrs. Bartrand got me through it. She is very good at her job.
Great teacher! She is available for questions, you just need to be an adult and ask! Study groups are a great way to integrate what you are taught and follow up with questions that you have. She truly cares about her students and wants each and every one to to succeed. Pay attention, do your homework, and ask questions!
She's a super easy teacher and homework is optional. If you struggle with math though, find a different teacher. She's very redundant on the easy stuff and doesn't really go over the more complicated material. Wouldn't recommend if you're actually looking to learn.
She did not reach well. What we went over in co was nothing compared to the homework. And even then, if you did understand the homework, then the tests were 100 times harder than the outside of class work. Homework is optional. Test a and quizzes are killer. There is a lot of extra credit though. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE EXTRA CREDIT
She doesn't take homework. She puts it all on you to learn the material. She shows basic examples and the tests are hard. There's a group project and you get to pick the topic and partners. She gives so much extra credit. Some of my classmates passes the class only using extra credit. Take advantage of that. The class is better with a friend.
Mrs. Bartrand was very kind and helpful! She didn't grade homework, but did give practice problems, DO THEM!!!! She gives more than enough extra credit.
You need to do the practice suggested problems, even though they are not graded.
She is an excellent teacher and i would take her class again. She helped me a lot and i enjoy her teaching methods.
She is an excellent teacher and i would take her class again. She helped me a lot and i enjoy her teaching methods. You do not use the book much though. I would definitely rent the book with the answer key.
Odd, is the best word I could use to describe her. She's an okay teacher, very smart (no doubt about it) and tries to connect with her students. My learning style just didn't quite match her teaching style. My not passing this class wasn't her fault, but mine as I didn't go to the tutoring center (which is also mandatory)
Really cares about student success.
Meg is the sweetest professor I've had so far! She has such a passion for mathematics and wishes to share the passion with her students. She's available for help and I enjoy her teaching methods. Usually she'll go over a new section for the first 20 minutes and than have the class do work problems together. Attendance mandatory. Caring and no hmwk.
Best teacher I've ever had. She knows everything math.
This teacher inspired me to learn more math. Although I was not very good at math, she helped me understand it. I only wish I could stay in her classes and learn so much more. She is a great teacher. Very helpful, kind, and caring. she wants the best for all of her students.
Very helpful. Cares about her students. If you fail, it is because you didn't try. If you fail, it's because you skipped class or the homework.
Totally competent. Very thorough.
Provides her notes and all sorts of help. Will work hard to help you understand.
Great teacher. Very helpful. She cares. Fun class!
She will work hard to help you understand.
Wonderful experience. Good opportunities. Competent.
Lots of fun!
Wish she could teach all my classes.
I skipped the first week of class even though I knew I would pay the price. However, when I showed up, she caught me up on the material I missed. She taught me the joy in math and I have chosen to become a math education major because of her.
PSA: IF YOU CAN GET ANY OTHER PROFESSOR DON'T TAKE HER CLASS. most of class is used for group activities instead of learning the math, her quiz's and tests are simply too challenging for the 1 hour time limit only one or two people in the class actually finish in time, and the only reason most of the people will pass is thanks to the extra credit.
I don't like the way she teaches. Instead of explaining the material she would just make you do activities during class. She wouldn't grade homework the overall grade was based on quizzes, tests and a final project. She does give extra credit.
Do not take her class if math does not come easy to you. Most days she lectured for about 20 minutes and then told everyone to work on "practice" and activities in small groups. She gives a lot of practice worksheets and the keys are in the back, so be prepared to teach yourself with those. Textbook is useless, but she gives a TON of extra credit.
Sweetest teacher ever! Lovin' the extra credit!
She is there for the students. Take if you truly want to learn.
I found the worksheet packet and math notes really helpful. I also like the quizzes because they helped me stay on track.
She's the best teacher for this class.
I need more teachers like her!
Wish she were teaching the next class.
I've had her for several classes. She's my favorite.
Her notes and worksheets were better than the textbook.
puts very little effort into lectures. most of your learning will come from the book as she does not explain things very well. quizzes are worded and laid out completely different than lecture and hw material.
Don't take her class online. Graded on 10 quizzes, 3 test, 1 final and 1 report. Might be okay if it was an in person class. Very little communication and direction on whats expected. Her videos are bad, always some sort of background noise (doing dishes, slamming doors etc..). Good luck.
Haven't had such a tough teacher in a while, but this class was terrible. If you spend days studying for quizzes and tests, be ready to get some questions that are not included in the homework (not all but the majority). The book was of little to no use, and your grade is based only off of tests and quizzes; does offer extra credit.
DO NOT TAKE Prof. Bartrand, she does not go into any detail in lectures, if you ask a question over an email, she will give you a rude immature response. Seems like she wants her students to fail.
I took Prof. Bartrands online when COVID-19 hit and she was so accommodating and helpful all quarter. She sent daily panopto recordings and homework was optional. You are graded on short quizzes every week, 3 exams, a midterm, a report, and a final. If you study hard youll pass the tests. She also gives extra credit opportunities.
She gives a lot of quizzes and tests, and there's one project, but your grade is dependent on the quizzes and tests, and I didn't do very well but she gives out some extra credit
She is very unprofessional, and not very good at explaining the assignments and projects, so most of the time you won't know why you got a bad grade. I'm not taking her again.
Provides a lot of extra practice materials. Wants students to succeed.
Don't take this professor if you have a lot of trouble with math. You'll be teaching yourself even if the registration page says you'll be getting instruction 4 days a week. The class tutor was unhelpful most of the time, and Bartrand just expects you to know whats going on. Not to mention THREE finals, a project and two tests. No dead week.
Self-taught class with one optional zoom review once a week. Two end-of-quarter COMPREHENSIVE finals in addition to a final project. No dead week. Not very thorough at explaining concepts and expects you to have prior knowledge of all subject areas and if you don't, expect to study 10+ hours a week.
All of my years of schooling I have been great at math, until this course. Teaches you nothing in the videos, basically learning everything through homework. Not to mention, the questions on quizzes are absolutely different from those in the homework. Say she wants you to do well but is a complete lie.
If you're good at independent study, her classes are a cakewalk. Quizzes pretty often, but each EC makes up the same amount of points as a quiz, and there are a lot of opportunities to right yourself. Honestly, she's a sweetheart and seems like she wants you to pass with >100%. However, if you struggle in math, your experience may be different.
She is a great professor for math 151. I had her online and definitely made it possible to pass the class as long as you put in the work. She will also take the time and explain any problem you have trouble during the zoom meetings. Definitely would take again if I take math 152.
If you're an engineer major go to another math teacher who can actually help you understand concepts. Extra Cred helps but theres no point if you dont understand the concepts, its just setting students up for failure in the next math classes. If this is your last stop in math sure, but if you need more math find someone else.
Professor Bartrand is clearly knowledgeable and was always willing to take extra time to explain if needed. Extra credit is common and makes the class fairly easy and stress free.
TAKE ANYONE ELSE! She didn't know how to teach people and assumed that you already knew the material. Nobody in the class knew what she was trying to teach. You were only graded based on tests, quizzes, and extra credit. She doesn't properly explain concepts and assumes that you understand what she is teaching.
Had to take her for 172&3, she caused so many students to give up on teaching. Classes are useless, too easy but tests are too hard. Your grade is 4 major exams & 4 major projects. Do ALL extra credit if you want a decent grade. Unhelpful over email, doesn't apply student feedback, absolutely miserable. I got an A in AP Calc but barely passed this
Even though this class was a hybrid, attendance matters. The first 5 weeks were very stressful! I suggest reading along in the textbook and do online tutoring. She does not prepare you for the exam that YOU NEED TO PASS BY THE END OF THE QUARTER. I suggest study groups, tutoring, and watching the lectures. Make sure to do ALL the extra credit.
The class was very difficult, In the recorded lectures and in-class lectures she assumed you already knew the material which made it difficult to understand. You have to teach yourself everything because the lectures aren't really helpful. There are plenty of extra credit opportunities but it won't save you from failing.
She can't teach well and your grade is only made up of quiz, exams & extra credit. No one would be passing without extra credit; the averages on the exams were about a 20/50. She very sweet & very knowledgeable but she cannot teach.
She genuinely cared about her students and will take the extra time it make sure everyone understands the concepts. She is my favorite!!
She assumes everyone knows what shes talking about, i did allot of tutoring but didn't help because we learn something diffirent everyday. She dosent take the time to make sure we know the concept. This class was very stressful and many people dropped this class for a reason
Honestly save your time and money and just don't take her. It's sad seeing how many students drop out in the first month. The tutoring center doesn't know her materials. She labels things incorrectly and doesn't say why. The college needs to talk to her to about students success. Yes, she gives extra credit opportunities but is not enough.
Textbook was required but not needed, almost none of the homework problems were on the quizzes/tests. The notes handout will be your best friend for this class. Scheduling was somewhat off so be prepared to teach yourself the topics for quizzes sometimes. Definitely do as much extra credit as you can to get a good grade.
I had a horrible experience with this professor. Avoid her if possible. Her test scores are always awful, and he only cared about letting us get better test scores when the highest test score didn't get above 60%. The reason she offers so much extra credit is because she makes the class impossible to pass otherwise.
Prof. Bartrand's class was a real challenge. Her lectures didn't provide much guidance, and the assessments didn't align with the homework. However, using unstuck study and staying on top of the textbook helped me pull through with a decent grade.
I took Math 171 through 173 and I was miserable the whole time. First quarter, she lost my final project. Second quarter, she wouldn't submit the grade of a huge test, even after I messaged her about it many times, and when she finally did, it was the wrong score. Everyone I've spoken to agrees that she's very difficult to work with.
Horrible professor, her lecture style is very confusing to understand. Theres no 'actual' assignments, but there are recommended assignments to do. It doesn't even matter if you do the assignments, as I guarantee those concepts and questions will not appear on the test. Instead, you'll be hit with questions she's never gone over in her lectures.
an absalute insane quarter i went with this prof what the actual hell i had to self study the whole quarter and got a 4.0 this is insane but her exrta credits are actually amazing but if u cant self stuudy dont even think about it
do not under any circumstances take this teacher. Upon informing others i was taking this professor they winced and told me to drop, and i should have listened sooner. I am begging you to not sacrifice yourself to this class, she doesnt teach well, she doesnt grade well, and the extra credit wont save you. please dont do this to yourself
The professor was decent 2.5/5 be ready to self-teach yourself the entire class, due to only being in once a week. A retake was allocated for the first test due to a low class average, which was a nice accommodation.
Meg is an extremely tough grader, deducting points for wording and giving little support. She's hard to reach, offers minimal guidance, and provides no practice work only weekly quizzes. The class was difficult for many of us, and my GPA suffered due to the lack of help and clear instruction. I strongly suggest a different instructor if possible.
This was an extremely difficult class since Bartrand offers little/no guidance in assignments/test review. Zoom classes are "optional" but she only teaches the material online. I attended every zoom, in person class, and did every extra credit but my grade was barely passing. Tests are very difficult and the class averages were insanely low.
