Very good instructor
No Comments
Worst programming course I've ever taken.
I love her. She is very knowledgeable. I received an A in this class and I knew nothing about computers at all. Fun class. She know her information. Very prepared.
I THOUGHT SHE WAS GREAT.
Hardest class I've taken with the best teacher!
Easiest class I've ever taken...except for the instructor who made it harder than it needed to be. I will receive an easy A in this class, but I wish the instructor was more than some slides.
D/L course. Did assigments from book and worked on project and received an A. No problems. Tests were on areas that were covered and were not difficult.
This instructor really knows her stuff and was very helpful in getting me through the course. The bad comments made earlier on this course was made from the jerks in the class and I don't recommend them as students. Enjoyed class and learned a lot. Thanks
Meg's an awesome teacher. Loves the subject and takes the time to explain things and answer questions.
Was a very great instructor who knew exactly what she was talking about. I have written many programs since taking her class. If the people who had problems would have taken the prerequisites, there would have been no problems.
This course teaches you to work as a team as in real life. The group will pass or fail together, enjoyed working with the group. Enjoyed having Meg as a teacher again. I would recommend this course and this teacher. Thanks Meg.
This was my 2nd time with her and both were D/L. Very easy if you do the work!!
very easy intro course. i took it d/l, and got an "A". Very recommended.
LOVED HER! deffinately take her again if i had to. she explained everything great. If you do bad on the presentation but she knows you were well prepared just a bad speaker you will still make a good grade.
Great Teacher, her tests are really hard but always a pleasure.
hated her
Took her online class here clarity on what she wanted was not good. Everytime I e-mailed her with a question she never really answered it. Will never take her again if I had to I would transfer.
To worried about people coming to see her with perfume on and her allergies. that is all she talked about at oreintation. Like I care if you have that many medical problmes STAY HOME! She just throws the work at you and assumes you know what your doing. Basically your teaching yourself. So if you like to waste your money take her!
Class was ok. She wasn't very helpful so if you didn't alrady have some background in computers you probably shouldn't take her class.
Her online class was awful! Orientation consisted of her discussion about her allergies. Don't wear perfume if you come to see her, she has to wear gloves to grade papers, etc. Couldn't email assignments for an ONLINE class-had to take them to campus. NEVER take her class.
If I could turn back time this would be a class I would have never taken. Intensely confusing assignments, website, and tests. Instructor unresponsive & unhelpful. She enjoys grading assignments/tests harshly & treats the class like an english class. She is also not understanding of extenuating circumstances. Waste of Time & Money!
Without question, THE best computer science instructor at OWC. I have taken every CS class and IT class that OWC offers. The people complaining are people who are non CS majors that is why they had difficulty.
Meg's assignments are unclear and are typically graded not on a computer science level, but more like an english class. The Website is confusing and verbose. I would highly recommend another instructor unless you are already proficient in Office 2003 and are VERY good with grammar.
Mrs. McManus is great, love her.
Her power points were very fragmented. She taught this class as if we should already know the material instead of treating us as if we never see the material before. I was expecting a C or lower according to my tests, but I did great on my homework. Surprisingly; when I looked at my final grade for the class I had an A.
This women is the meanest teacher i have had out of 6 years of college. She is the biggest B*#!% I have ever had. She treated everyone as if they were retarded and singled dome students out. I stood up to her cause she tried to embarrass meand i and walked out of class when she said to see her after class.
Well, I am IT professional and ignored the ratings on here thinking I could 'wing' it with my experience. DO NOT BE FOOLED! Regardless of my prior work experience I still struggled to understand the concepts she was teaching. The assignments were just as hard, with the instructions being VERY unclear. Would NOT Recommend.
Everyone else is right, she talks too much about her allergies and how you can't wear perfume, lotions, etc... She is a real bore and should not be teaching. She shows favoritism and does like to embarass students in her class. I would not recommend her to anyone who really wants to learn about Word, Excel, Access...
What a bore. She complains too much and just needs to teach the class. Don't take her if you really want to get something out of the class. Assignments are no help to the tests. As long as you are in class and do the homework you'll pass. But she is a terrible instructor!
Students who did poorly on the CGS1100 class did poorly in the advanced CGS1570. Class time was well utilized by the instructor and she was readily available to help with ALL assignments during office hours as well as by email. Health problems aside if you put some effort in you will get a "B" and maybe even an "A".
Just overall one of weirdest people on Earth! Her online classes are nearly impossible! She does not follow her own guideline that another student's grade does not affect your own. I called her on it and she did not give in. That is called LYING!!! I would not recommend her...
I will now never take a distance learning class again after this one
I found Mrs. Mcmanus to be very anal. She did not have patience for people that could not keep up with her speed. On several occasions I had to stop what I was doing to help a fellow student. And her projects are just outrageous for what we were suppose to be learning. Far too distracting.
Beware~
Terrible teacher. Avoid.
I've now had several classes with this teacher. Although tough, she is always willing to help students. What I have found is that most students who don't like her are the ones who don't want to do the work to learn!
This teacher was of NO HELP at all!! Her assignments were unclear and also were too indepth for an introductory class. I took it distance learning....NEVER AGAIN!!! She gets frustrated by questions and penalizes students for putting forth extra effort.
This class is not an intro level class. The clas is geared for more of an expert user, and one who knows the "textbook" way" of computers. Teacher is not responsive, and drags everything out - the midterm took 10 minutes to complete only after her 60 minute babble. McManus thinks the class is an English class.
Mcmanus is one of the better profs I have seen. She knows her stuff and she's great at getting students to her level of understanding. This class does take a little homework on the part of the student. Most of the negative stuff is from students who want their "A" fed to them on a silver "I can't do it" spoon. Bullsh*t. It's college, not day-care!
I was worried based on comments left on this site, but she was a great teacher, wonderful sense of humor and did all she could to help you make a good grade, as long as you did the work. I would definitely take her again for another class. YOU ROCK MRS. MCMANUS!!!
Horrible class. Teacher has obvious "favorites", likes procrastinators, penalizes over achievers. Would not recommend to worst enemy. Mandatory group project.
I was nervous taking her class, based on the reviews. I am not computer literate and people mentioned not being able to follow up with class without experience. I actualy enjoy her class. She is very helpfull. Keep up the homework and she'll help you find your mistakes until you get an A. You can ask questions anytime in class, before or after.
took online and was skeptical because of her bad comments on this site. She has easy assignments though, it doesn't take much to pass the class with good grade. She lets you turn work in late you just have to tell her before the due date
Trust the bad reviews! She is the worst teacher I've ever had! Does not help and very degrading to students. The positive comments are probably written by her.
She takes a simple subject and makes it ridiculously impossible. You can't just do the assignments in the book...she has to change them just enough to confuse you. VERY frustrating class.
wonderful teacher. easy A. as long as you do your project!
This was def.not an Intro level class! It was more of an Advanced class! If you know very little about Word 2007, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access.. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!She teaches at a VERY fast pace, and gets mad when students need her to repeat things!!! HORRIBLE CLASS!!!
She is a good teacher. However, take my advice. Take her online class!! I have had her both ways. She talks too much, if you take her online course you don't have to listen, just do your work. The assignments are basic, just make sure you get them done. She'll work with you.
She's not a good teacher. She makes you feel dumb when you ask her questions, she is not helpful. She doesn't respond to e-mails. Final Exam was really hard.
She does not explain what she is doing. Not willing to help you. Talks alot about random stuff. Waist class time and expects you to know everything.
Horrible...a lot of work, too much Harry Potter and Dalmatians.
Excellent instructor. She give very detailed instructions, but you have to actually go to the pg and read them. She seperates it out into different sections. High recommend this class.
This teacher was the worse I have ever experienced. DO NOT TAKE HER! Loves to make an example of students and plays favorites. In all honesty - she's the worst - Avoid at all cost
Good person/will work with you as long as questions are legit. Has no patience for those who ask questions on already thoroughly covered material. Downside= her written instructions were very unclear and incomplete. I tactfully called her on this on several occasions and she made the necessary adjustments. All her assignments need a thorough scrub.
had her for microcomputer apps. worst teacher i had besides wikle. very unfair. plays favorites. gets off topic very easy. class is an easy one if you do the work and read the book. i dont recommend this teacher
Literally the worst college experience I have ever had. Instructor is rude, uncaring, and refuses to answer email or voice messages. Loves belittling students and only gives high grades to her favorites. If you complain she will say that the college can do nothing due to her having tenure and to get over it. AVOID!!!
Instructor seems to understand the subject material but is unable to adequately communicate it to the students. She is unhelpful and takes forever to respond to you. Very inconsistent and hard to follow. Not systematic, and one of the sloppiest teachers ever! Her classes were boring, repetitive, and pointless. TAKE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
I took her in my 2nd year in college and out of all the teachers I have ever had this is the worst one of my entire life. The only thing she loves in the world are her dogs. Those poor things. She is very smart in computers but she uses that to put you down. She takes forever to get through the days lessons. Worst teacher ever. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!
Excelent teacher, one of the best that I ever had. Just her and my Geology Teacher in Colombia José Luis Naranjo Henao (I am geologist graduated in 1998 in Colombia) Dr. Meg gives to her students all that she learned, practiced, found in her investigations, every key and the best way to get the fastest and good results in her and other classes.
I was alittle hesitant after reading all these reviews , but I took a chance and signed up for it. If you put in the effort and dont procrastinate you will make a good grade. She really is a good teacher and definatly knows what shes talking about.
Great Teacher! She may be alittle intimidating at first but it gets better! 50 % of your grade is homework which can be turned in as many times as you need till you get an 100. Theres no need to make a bad grade in this class! Dont let the reviews scare you! Not to mention they hurt her feelings.
I had mcmanus cgs 1100 & 1570 In 1100 I couldnt read her personality. Made it thru the class. In 1570 Thats when I finally figured her out! Very hard shell, but soft inside. Fun stories, caring, does not put up with bs. Gotta be on point. Has a phd, very intellectual.Gotta know her to love her UNIQUE I will remember her. yet other teachers i wont
I took the online class and her instructions were very confusing and not clear on some assignments. She didn't get back to you promptly when questions were asked and you pretty much taught yourself everything. The only good
For the DL class her instructions were very confusing on a lot of the assignments. She didn't get back to you promptly when questions were asked and you pretty much taught yourself everything. I must say she is very friendly and flexible, and if you are familiar with the programs it's an easy A,if not, good luck reading her mind on what she's askin
Taking DL class. Online material can be very difficult to understand... MOST of the time. Most times other classmates and I have to go back and forth trying to guess what she wants accomplished in her assignments. In class might be different, but online is confusing, and I have moderate experience with Office 2007. Take at your own risk.
Very nice teacher. Very Helpful. But doesn't take to lazy people. Lots of work and a very demanding schedule to complete. Tests and homework not to bad, just following instructions can be a little tricky. Lots of the assignments come right from the hands on in book exercises. Overall pretty good. She is helpful showing HW before class starts.
I found that taking this class was nice to get my degree, but i found it difficult to make a point or get good information from her on an assignment or lab. I think she could do better listening to her students than thinking she is right before the student can finish asking questions. other students should go to another teacher for this class.
Don't take her! It'll be the biggest mistake you make!
McManus is crazy. She is the worst teacher i have ever had in my life! She thinks she is super funny but in actuality she is just extremely annoying. Struggled to complete the Micro Comp. Applications class wanted to quit every day i went to class! DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!!
Horrible teacher. Took her distant learning class for Micro Computer Apps. She says she has a 24 hour turn-around on e-mails, but it's not true. She's not very clear on what she wants and some of her work gets confusing. Was extremely annoying having to turn in my homework via mail.
half of the work is deciphering her directions for the assignments. she is very unclear and wordy. although she grades fairly and has a nice work and turn-in schedule for DL. also 40 point bonus toward grade in class.
Hated taking this class with her. Had to wait over a month for her to finally finish grading a test. Had to wait over a week for responces on emails and most the time she didn't send answers to questions partaining to homework until after the homework was already due. Had to use youtube videos to figure out how to do most of the homework. Good luck
What a joke! Teacher is worst I have ever had! Should spend more time caring about her students and TEACHING rather than making us decipher a bunch of useless nonsense. BEWARE ANYONE WHO HAS TO TAKE THIS CLASS! TAKE ANY PROFESSOR OTHER THAN THIS ONE! SHE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU, YOUR GRADE, OR YOUR LEARNING THE MATERIAL! ONLY WANTS TO BE DIFFICULT!
yea i had to drop her class. She's mentally not there. She says she alergic to any scent. One of my friends took the same class but in crestview just to get away from her.
After switching to the class at a friend's request, we both ended up dumbfounded by her. Not only are the lectures confusing, choppy, and badly put together, they're normally split up by her writing on the board for 5 to 10 minutes, with no discussion as to what's going on. She's random, scattered, and confusing, even if she does know her stuff.
I went ahead and took CGS1100 in class even after reading all the comments. I found her class very easy and thought her instructions were quite clear. She doesn't take to you trying to pull one over on her and will call you out on it. Since I already knew what her expectations were, I am taking her CGS 1570 class online.
She is not an easy A,but I really enjoyed taking her class. She is very knowledgeble in what she does and she has a lot of experience in a business world. If you just care about grade maybe take someone else but if you want to apply what you learned in class to the real wold this class is for you.Dr.McManus is very helpful,if you don't understand so
Was an easy "A" for myself but required a lot of work. Took the class D/L and was required to mail her my assignments. Also have to do a "team" project which is a disaster via D/L.
I have her for a distance learning class and have found it to be very difficult since she makes up her own homework assignments, rather than using ones in the book. She is the first teacher that I have had so far that I would not recommend others to take.
requires a lot of home work and some due right after along review before you can begin....
This class has been the most difficult class I have taken in college. The whole semester has been stressful. WORST TEACHER EVER! She is not helpful. If you have a question, she is very vague and seems to get frustrated if you don't understand. Teachers are supposed to teach! Very rude and just an all around bad person. STAY AWAY!!!!
The class was easy. She just has an abrasive elitist personality. All of the home work is easy cause your given step by step instructions on her web site for every assignment. Best advice listen to what she is saying, not how she is saying it.
I took online class. She normally answered my questions by email within 24 hours. Taking an online class b/c of my schedule is hard with her, you still have to go to the campus for assignment turn in & pick up. Not a good online class. It is complicated to find someone at the campus to pick up your assignments making it that much harder on you.
very helpful, very intelligent
She makes it impossible to have an ONLINE class online...
Terrible teacher. All around a mean person. She doesn't explain instructions throughly at all. & if you we're perfumes she will flip out on you..I had to withdraw.
If you shut up and listen to her, you will get everything correct. assignments are done on line and she lets you do them before hand to bring to here so you can get 100s. just a matter of what you are willing to do for a "A" i liked her! thought she was funny! even though she forgets and tells the same story 12 times sometimes. Good teacher
I grew up with computers and I am far from computer illiterate. The class was the hardest A I've ever earned. The instructions are extremely hard to follow, and she is not clear when responding to questions. I took her class online. It is possible to make an A, but impossible to make an A+
My biggest problem with her was her lack of patience. She may be an expert but her people skills are lacking
Everyday of the class consists of following exactly what she does at a fast pace. It is hard to really understand the material because if you fall behind or click on the wrong thing she will call you out in front of the class and embarrass you.She also piles on tons h.w. assignments at once. She is by far the worst teacher I have ever come across.
Text was listed as required, then never used. Assigned last homework due last day of class with test on topic same day(hope you understood it). If she stopped telling the same stories and taught the subject this class might be worth the money. I live in FWB and will drive to Crestview to avoid her in the future.
She seems kinda mean at first but yall she is extremely kind and forgiving. You have to work very hard. But she will re-grade and re-grade and re-grade. If you put forth the effort that woman will get you through it even if computers are a foreign language to you. loved her.
Poor online class -- requires student to attend mandatory orientation; midterm and final practicums; turn in homework.
She's nice but she lacks patience. I feel like she expects you to already know how to do everything she's teaching you. Also if you mess up she WILL call you out in front of the entire class. Its only a hard course if your like me and know nothing about computers. My advice learn the basics about Word, Excel and PowerPoint before signing up.
Dr Meg was very helpful throughout the class. If you communicate with her she will work with you. She does not have much patience for those who do not do their work or show up late. In class she will bring up things that you are doing wrong to use it as a learning tool and not to call you out as others have said. Definitely recommend.
Dr. McManus's instructions throughout the course were ALL over the place. It was very hard to keep us with what was due and when. If you are planning on traveling a lot during this online course, DONT. It is mandatory to physically turn in all homework and attend tests. Worst online class I have taken by far. Not very clear.
This instructor is very rude. She disrespected a fellow classmate because all he did was ask if there will be a Final Review made available because on her Syllabus showed that there will be one made available. When he asked, she replied, "Not been reading the Lessons?" She is hard to get a hold of. Will spend days waiting for a reply (e-mail).
Withdrew from this class. Not a true online class of you have to drive to school to turn in and pick up assignments. Also her pages upon pages of the syllabus/assignment instructions are difficult to follow and ridiculous. You will spend hours searching her website just to piece together what she wants from an assignment. AVOID!
The material (homework and labs) are hard to understand. She will not go along with the syllabus. She will also test you on material that she never went over on class, that is not in the textbook, and was not in her PowerPoint Slides. I would not recommend this teacher for any courses if you can keep from it.
She was not helpful at all, rude and confusing and the homework didn't follow the text. She changed the date of our final a few days before it was to be taken cause she "used the wrong calendar" which left most of us taking it on proctor for 34$. You also have to drop off the homework printed out and on two USB drives. So much for an online class.
This class was the most confusing class I have ever taken. You will spend a tremendous amount of time figuring out what you are suppose to do. Definitely don't take this unless you are very familiar with the software. You receive very little to no help if you take this class online. She makes you print things out and take them to the campus.
She knows her stuff, if you are willing to put in the time and effort to learn she WILL teach you. if you want and easy credit and walk away without having learned anything then go to a different educational field and a different teacher
Online class that makes you go to campus 5 times in a semester to turn in homework, so basically defeats the purpose of online class. I would highly recommend that you skip taking this class online and take on campus. WAAAAYYY too much information to sort through online. Essentially 10 pages of info for what could be summed up in 1.
Let's start by saying if you put in the effort, then you will get an A! Dr. McManus, in my opinion, is a pretty good teacher. Just expect somewhat of a different teaching style from her. My advice, is to get thick skin before taking her class. She is very blunt and just tells you how it is! I don't really know why she has such a low score!
I have taken many online classes during my college career & this was hands down the worst online class I have taken. Professor McManus is extremely unclear confusing with her objectives for the course. There should be a class on how to navigate through her course content and syllabus information. She won't respond to questions in a timely manor.
I took the following class CGS1100 during the summer because i thought a computer class online would be easy. Wrong. Unfortunately, Mrs. Meg makes things 1000x harder then they need to be. The instructions are very, very detailed to the point of confusion. Everything is everywhere. She seems nice but the organization is over done to where you can
The absolute WORST ever! She is UNORGANIZED and UNHELPFUL. If u email her she DOESN'T RESPOND for at least a week if that. She makes assignments that should be easy very difficult to understand! She doesn't teach at all! To navigate through her course is a CHALLENGE and is very difficult!
Condescending and unhelpful when students ask questions in Ask Professor thread. Reuses outdated lessons, changes parts of it, leaving students with contradictory instructions/lesson plans posted. Frustrating. Really bothered by how rude and superior she acts to community college students, who already tend to be vulnerable members of society.
Her rating is not accurate! I found her to be funny & down to earth! as long as you do your homework, show up, participate and try you will get an A! I will take all future classes with her (if offered)!
I took this class online and I must say that it was very misleading. The exam study guides do not match up to the midterm and final it is just very unorganized. She is a nice teacher but there could be so improvement in the way she teaches online and communicates with the class.
This class is time consuming, but DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! If you work on the projects(all online)before they are due you can turn them in to be checked. If they are wrong she will tell you what to fix. If they are correct them you get a 100 on the spot. Tests were easyish if you know computers, but if you dont like me they are only 20% of final grade.
Difficult not because of material, but her syllabus/instructions/schedule are unnecessarily complicated and hard to understand. She is not easy to reach via email. There were at least three times over this summer semester that she posted the wrong assign/didn't open the test like she said/etc. I've squeaked by with a B, but no thanks to her.
NOT AN ONLINE CLASS. Maybe she's better in class, because you don't have to rely on her outdated & disorganized instructions. And I'm no slacker. I've spent hours trying to understand single assignments. I try to be very understanding of professors, but the way she handles teaching/communcation(bad)/even posting assignments on time- is terrible.
She is good. She is a bit difficult, but if you do your work she is a good teacher. The more classes i took with her the better she became.
It is tough to reach her by email. The Syllabus is very difficult to follow and has inaccurate information. The tests do not go along with the assignments.
Prepare to read a novel length of disorganized instructions to start to get the gist of what you're doing in this class, and remain confused for quite sometime after. Homework weight 50%. There is a team project 20% you will dread doing. Only way to reach her is via email, and she takes a week to respond. Textbook isn't the best.
If you are looking for the most confusing and unreachable professor you have found her!
Maybe one of the worst experiences in college I have ever had. Stay away if possible.
This lady is brilliant! Don't expect to learn based on lectures, alone. If you don't practice the material presented, you WILL NOT learn. Also, it's good to have a thick skin, as Dr. Meg is a straight-forward as they come. Easily triggered snowflakes will melt. This was my 3rd semester with her, and my experience with her improved each time.
Gives convoluted instructions for simple tasks, giving walls of text for mundane tasks. Condescending and unreachable. Had a course with a different professor of the same class and the difference was night and day. Don't take any classes involving this professor.
This was an online. In the syllabus, she says that she prefers not to have visitors in her office because she is allergic to certain perfumes and deodorants. The material on the site is as scattered as it is vast, making it difficult to understand and navigate.
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT take this class online. It is a huge mess. You teach yourself with the terribly laid out modules. The assignment due dates are unclear and you have to dig through many different lists to get any relevant information. It's a terrible course and I would never take it or anything else from this professor again.
Do not take this class! I've never had a worse experience in my entire time of going through my schooling. She changes due dates up frequently and doesn't seem to help anything make sense. She makes the lessons through powerpoints that don't make sense and makes assignments that you almost can't understand Do not take any classes online through her
This class was very difficult for me. I'm very new to programming and had to learn a lot on my own (which I am fine with). A few things could have been clarified more throughout lectures but overall was a good learning experience. If you take this class, remember 2 things, recursion & cohesion. I did not, and that is where many struggles were.
she will not be helpful at all if you email her and she will make you do a big GROUP project (this is an online class) with long confusing instructions and is no help in explaining them or any other questions you would have. if you ask her a question be prepared to get the run around from her.
McManus is a tough grader, but at least she lets her students redo the assignments until you are happy with the grade. Make sure that you do the assignments because they are worth much more than the tests. So, you can pretty much flunk the tests, but still pass the course. The book isn't useful at all. Btw, she loves Dalmatians.
I took this class online and thoroughly disliked it. Others have said in person is better but I can't vouch for that. I found the instructions and lessons hard to follow and the assignments too confusing. She wasn't nice when I emailed and asked for help, saying that I should've just read the syllabus. Highly do not recommend, especially not online
In my particular class, the students who did not do well made too many excuses or did not try hard enough. This is not a difficult course, but Dr. Meg does not give away As and Bs either. The grading criteria clear, and if you are having problems, Dr. Meg will help you after class. If youre looking for any easy A, keep on looking.
This online class was heavy in homework. The assignments were all very interesting, just not enough time. Dr. Meg's instructions were a bit scrambled at times. But overall, an easy A.
DO NOT take this class. If you fall even the slightest bit behind she baby talks you until you finally become so frustrated you wonder why you took this course in the first place. She also "claims" she has these horrible allergies to all perfumes and scents but a classmate was wearing cologne an entire lecture and she didn't notice.
Visual Basic is not a hard language, but I found it extremely difficult as the professor gives extremely confusing instructions for labs and assignments. She does not teach the material necessary to complete it, she just expected us remember. She is also very unclear about due dates and is not empathetic about life outside of class (e.g. work)
