she is so crazy and cool that you gotta love her
she is a super cool teacher...makes this long class not boring...has a good sense of humor! overall great teacher! i'd take her again!
i took her my freshman year, about 5 years ago. she was so great and just really warm and easy going. i love this lady.
shes awsome!!!! relly teaches you
she is the best professor ever. has a great sense of humor and personality. really teaches you english. the only bad thing is she grades really really REALLY hard. hard to get a "b" and impossible to get an "a" but a really fun class
Meg is my favorite teacher. She really motivates you to do well. I am not very good at English, and she helped me more than pass. I wanted to take her again, but I couldnt get into her class.
you will love her, seems strict but not, and has a great sense of humer.
Very helpful, really tried to bring in material that was fun for the class.
I love this lady! She is sooo funny! Your entire class is taken up non stop talking and joking around. We only did one essay this whole semester until the end when we had another one, but as you can see 13 weeks with only one essay? common now.....piece of cake.
I love her! She's really nice and willing to help you. She is the reason I passed English 1. She grades hard but it motivates you to do better. She's funny and talks about her crazy life. She has interesting views on life. I recommend her!
Meg is super cool! She has these topics for essays that will really make you think about a lot of things in your life! She grades hard, scribbles a lot in your essay but only does that because she wants you to improve! We were supposed to have 4 essays but only did 3, in which one is film review! A+ Professor!
I Love Meg Pennigton...she's the best english teacher ever!
She is definetly there to help if your willing to seek it and put in the effort. She's very strict with attendence, but really it is for your good. She selects really good readings for the essays, and really allows you to go in your own direction, as long as you are on topic, and use the reading thouroughly...I would DEFINETLY reccommned Meg!
Very dedicated, and energetic. Meg makes you work, but will do what it takes to earn you the success both you and she want. She will be in office when you ask her to be, or she'll leave you her home number if you need help when she's not at school. Her lectures are always focused and to the point. She gets the class involved together.

Excuse my language but she is a ****! At first I thought she was cool, but she is totally fake. She kicks you out of her class if you miss it more than 4 times! WTF we r not in high school anymore. Also, she grades soo hard on her essays. it's impossible to get an A unless u r very dorky and she doesn't have a need to be jealous of you, or if u
Meg is awesome! She's a hard grader, but that's how you learn! Meg is straight up, no ****, and fun. Her personality is humorous and kept me wanting to go to class. If you take advantage of her office hours in the beginning, and work hard, you'll do great. Don't f* around because she'll throw your ass out, in a nice way though. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Meg is super cool, but doesnt take any ****. She'll kick you out if you miss 5 classes, but lectures were enjoyable so just attend. I was shooting for a C but ended up with an A. Im not saying its easy, its just her way of teaching really got to me. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED
She taught us absolutely nothing and went off on tangents--things you would be loathe to tell your best friend, she told us, like we were her personal therapy session. I could have attended ZERO classes and still gotten an A. Awful.
If you are really good at English, this is the teacher for you. The class is easy as pie. She is a really..I mean really hard grader. You guys can get your doctorite thesis done early in her class. She doesnt teach composition you basically you just debate the whole time. Shes a cool person, kind of a feminist and she cuts you off alot too.
Meg is one of the hardest professors ever. but in the end it helps you become a better writer. dont eff around in the begining. take advantage of her office hours and after you get a paper back and she says you can re-write it...do it ASAP. She is very fun to talk to.
Meg is super duper AWESOME and she is really funny. Her classes are fun and entertaining, so you don't have to worry about having to daydream during class time. Her grading on paper are pretty hard, but then she gives you an opportunity to rewrite your paper and get a better grade. i highly recommend her.
At first, Meg can seem a bit crazy...but then you realize that her crazinesss is what makes her so unique and fun. She has been the best english professor I have ever had. Sure she goes off on tangents but she also gets her job done and it is up to you to get your crap together. She is always there to help you out (even when she's not in school!).
Pennington is an interesting woman. Don't take her if you aren't a good writer. She'll tear up apart. She isn't open to ideas outside the box and in my opinion grades down if she doesn't agree.
yeah i do agree that she would rip your paper up but you will come out of that class a better writer
Meg is definitely an imcompetent non-professional old lady. She is very friendly and upbeat; however, is utterly close-minded to other opinions. It is always "her way or the highway." Do not take her if you are not willing to write about a subject you disagree with!
She has a style of teaching that you either love or hate. I personally loved it. She is very helpful when it comes down to your writing skills. She makes you aware of just what kind of writer you really are. Her class really improved my writing skills. She is a teacher and an entertainer.
Easily one of the most unprepared professors I've had at CSULB. She had NO lesson plan, and couldn't have even told you what stories we would read in class- she was picking them as we went along. Was unclear on expectations, and class was dominated by conversation by three people, and her complaints about how awful her ENGL 100 classes are.
She was completely unprepared the entire semester and ridiculously vague in her grading requirements. Even though she lets you revise papers, you never get the first drafts back in time to attempt to make them better.
Ms. Pennington was such a funny teacher and very upbeat. Although her personality was great, her grading was harsh BUT in the end you learn a lot. If you aren't good at writing you shouldn't get her. In english 1E we only had to do 2 essays, because she lags on grading ... and lets us correct multiple times.
A truly dedicated teacher. Animated & unabashedly humorous, she conveys her love of literature by encouraging students to burrow deep into it themselves. Her grading is consistent with any upper-division English class. If you falter, appreciate that she goes all out to help you improve, not punish you. Few English teachers will do that. Value it!
It's true that she is funny and somewhat eccentric. And it is also true that if you don't write well to begin with, you'll be dissapointed with your grade. However, she gives you countless opportunities to revise your paper until you get a better grade. I learned tons in her class and it made me a way better writer. The class is super easy.
I had her for English 1E (English Remedial class) in my first year of college. For me, the class was very hard because it required a lot of work, but now that I'm a sophomore, I realize that the class was not really that hard. We just focused on 3 essays and 3 in-class essay. I think the class was hard because I wasn't used to so much work.
she's a SWEETHEART. she's very dedicated to her work and she enjoys what she does. although english is not my thing, she made stories/discussions very interesting.
Eccentric, nice, forgiving, funny, and all around a clear and good teacher. The class discussions were always interesting and she encouraged really delving into the work. We ended up having 2 regular essays and the final in-class compare-contrast essay. Advice: make sure you read and the discussions will help a lot with papers. I highly recommend.
She's a great teacher that made me actually like getting out of bed to go to class at 8AM. She really wanted us to pass and get into English 100. She was also very helpful and gave great feedback if you were willing to accept it.
She is very eccentric and nice! She is always willing to help a student and her office hours are so helpful! I really became a better writer with her. Bad things: shes very repetitive and is never very clear on what she wants, which is why her office hors were great. I recommend her only if your very committed and if you try hard.
MOST HELPFUL ENGLISH TEACHER, keeps you awake (even at 8am). BUT you have to be dedicated to do well. If you try your best you will pass. If you don't want to work she will probably fail you.
although she doesnt have the easiest english class, she is still a very good teacher. my writing skills improved dramatically after taking her class. she is kind of repetitive, but still very helpful. if you take her class, make sure to talk to her if you dont understand something or you will fail. she will help you.
I took her last semester and I fellin love with literature all over again. She's funny and very enthusiastic about literature. She's not strict to the schedule. She let's you rewrite the essays if you aren't satisfied with your grade. And she's very helpful in and outside of class. Lots of reading, two essays, and one project. I would love to take another class with her.
Very energetic. She's really into her stuff and get's you into it too. She's also very understanding and pretty leniant with deadlines.
I took professor Pennington last semester (fall 09).I found her to be very helpful especially in her office hours, she does care about improving your writing. The essays were text based and not clear at first; however;she is willing to explain the material again and re-writes :)
Very helpful in writing, but critical in grading. Attendence taken at the beginning of class. Allows four absences. 2-3 out of class essays and 2-3 in class. Very funny and witty teacher
Makes negative comments in class about traditional marriage, stay at home moms, athletes. If she wants you to write about gender, just write about how women are oppressed by men. Marriage? Men oppressing women.
Meg was my girl.. she was a down teacher to joke with but she meant business.. as long as you took care of what you were supposed to do(which is two five page essays all semester and a bit or reading) then youll b fine. and shes understanding of latework. to an extent..kickass teacher yo
AWESOME professor. Basically 4 assignments, 2 major essays, an in class writing & a final. Final was anything you wanted to do, relating to the material read/discussed in class. Allows you to rewrite your essay if you are not satisfied w/ the initial grade.
Meg is awesome! She passes a role sheet but you'll want to go to her class bc she's hilarious. someone in the comments said she talks bad on marriage but it's all for fun, she never demeans anyone's opinion. &she really breaks down stories so you can understand.she pokes fun at engl100 kids (but come on) &she thinks their naiveness is cute anyway.
Meg is really nice and funny. She is a great teacher. Her class was always fun! Very helpful and really pushes you. Very hard grader though.
This class is simple as long as you put forth the effort. Meg is hilarious. Don't worry about getting the books. I got away with taking pictures of the readings from my classmates books, and reading it off of my phone. There are a few essays you're required to write, and I recommend you start them right away, so you aren't rushing your portfolio.
Awesome professor! Intelligent, yet laid-back.
Loved this class, definitely one of my favorite teachers so far. The class is easy if you focus on the essays and sound smart, she loves that. Sometimes she goes on tangents about her life which makes class all the more entertaining.
Meg is a great professor! Super funny and laid back. She is a hard grader but she explains well and helps you out when needed. Attendance is mandatory but she makes class pretty entertaining so it's not bad. One of my favorite professors by far!
Super liberal on everything, drove me a little crazy. Hard grader, almost as if my was doing my dissertation theses for my doctorate degree. She graded every little thing. Never knew my grade, she lagged it till after school finished, right before grades were do.
Professor Pennigton is very helpful and it is true what people said though, she will grade papers in detail. You won't know your grade until school is finished, however, she wants her students to pass.
Talks/rants a lot. Will go off topic when discussing the readings that we always run out of time. No set deadline to turn in papers and didnt grade them until the very end of the semester. Was a harsh grader but if you give your draft early for her to read she will correct it. Learn and fix the corrections for the final draft and you will be ok.
She's really nice and funny. She is very enthusiastic when she's lecturing. There's no tests really, but just a couple essays. Attendance is mandatory for her because she has a roll sheet. Lectures are sometimes boring, but easy class.
Goes off on a lot of tangents, class time wasn't used too conveniently, and she really does grade hard on essays. But she will make time for you if you need help. 2 regular essays (you need the readings from the textbook for these), 1 in-class essay as a final, and 1 rant. If you're looking for an easy grade, don't take her.
Meg is an amazing instructor. I had so much fun in her class and at the same time I learned a lot about literary analysis. She's so passionate about literature and she makes the class discussions fun and has a great sense of humor. She's not an easy grader, but if you want help improving your essays, she'll give you great feedback!
Super chill! She's crazy, you'll see. takes attendance. Class was boring. 3 essays. The first one she analyzes every detail but the other 2 are due about the same time so she doesn't have time for that. Final is in class essay, ridiculously easy. You can go to any of her classes if a diff time works better for you. She's flexible, communicate!
Very unorganized and unclear about what she expects in regards to work. That being said, she is a tough grader-- but doesn't give assignments back until a month or two later (so it's not easy to calculate your grade). She's rude to students and doesn't respect other's opinions if they differ from her own. Overall, worst teacher I've had at CSULB.
She is a very hard grader. Didn't learn anything from the class. SHE DID NOT GIVE US OUR GRADED ESSAY BACK UNTIL THE WEEK BEFORE THE FINAL so I barely had time to learn from my mistakes. I've also emailed her 3 times asking for some feedback on the grade I recieved and she didn't reply to anything which is so rude and inconsiderate.
4 papers in this class. Did not give essays back at the end of the school year. Expects to much out of the students. Very hard grader. Super funny and chill but will mark you down if your are late. Must go to class to understand essays.
She grades slow and did not give the two main essays back until the week before finals. She has horrible handwriting and a harsh grader. The second essay correction has less details. It's hard to learn from your mistake with only a week left to correct. Though she means well, her methods are questionable. She goes off topic a lot.
Hardest grader that I have ever encountered. She expects way too much from her freshman. She assigns only three assignments so it is very hard to get a grade that you want. She gives back assignments the last week of the semester and expects you to revise a papers with her handwriting that is horrible. DO NOT TAKE HER, I'M SAVING YOUR LIVE!
Meg is a good professor, and she is willing to help out during office hours. The class is very difficult, but if you go during her office hours she will help you. She is an extremely hard grader; however, you will become a better writer by reading her comments. The class will make you wonder if you are going to pass or not.
Really hard grader. She gives back your first paper to revise two weeks before finals, and you have to do two other paper as well. Might as well take a different class if you want to pass.
Meg is amazing! Best professor of my college career and I'm now getting my Master's in English. This woman is so amazing and cool. Take her 100% you won't regret it.
Meg is great, she gives great feedback and is willing to help you if you ask for help ( highly recommend going to office hours). she is tough, but you have to put in the work. The material was interesting. Three papers Two in class essays. she also lets you rewrite your essays.
HARDEST ENGLISH TEACHER ON CAMPUS. She is such a hard grader. Literally, everyone is failing her class at the moment. AVOID HER.
Unless you are an English Major (w a lot of writing experience) or simply an AMAZING writer I would suggest to avoid this class. There are 3 essays & she gives you back the essays the last few weeks of class and gives you little time to revise them. She wants to see her perspective on your paper rather than your own. Find a better professor..
This professor is by far the worst I have had in a long time. She spent 4 months talking about 4 stories, (3-4 pages long each). Then at the end of the semester, the last three weeks she decides to assign 2 essays, one major project, and a gusher- dumb. She is a tough grader, beware. Im not even an english major.
I liked her even though she's a little nutty. I am not the kind of student to go to office hours, but it really helped. She takes attendance and will drop your grade if you miss too many classes. Definitely not an easy A, but her class was interesting. I would choose an easier prof if I had to retake it though.
If you don't want to ruin your GPA, then I suggest to AVOID this class! You will most likely receive a C in this class no matter how hard you worked and how many times you've visited her during office hours. She's the pickiest and hardest grader I have ever met. She may be "interesting," but the low grade isn't worth it. Also class was such a drag!
I would suggest to drop this class if you are not the best at writing papers. The last few weeks of class she decides to give you all the assignments and little time to revise them. I've taken other similar courses and I haven't received low grades on my essays. Trust me, this class is not worth taking!
Meg is amazing. You will leave her class knowing how to analyze and fully appreciate literature inside and out. She's also just a wonderful person to talk to. Participate in class, get involved in conversations about the stories, have fun with it and her class will stick with you long after the semester ends.
Not an easy A. Attendance matters. She's an amazing professor but the hour and 15 minutes is not enough to learn everything she has to teach. Office hours help!
Only 4 essays for the whole semester, but she expects you to have at least 7 or so drafts per essay, probably more. She analyzes radings well, but there is a generation gap in opinions, and if you dont agree with her, youre wrong or not aknowledged. The last prompt asks the students to tell her how we have imporved and been inspired by her...
She's tough!!!!!! She's a great person but she's a really really hard grader.... I wouldn't recommend
Very tough grader, and does not give clear instructions on essay. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!!
I loved meg's class, but if you have zero interest in the subject, and are just in it for an easy A, then don't go for her. Actually I feel she isn't an overly tough grader, but if you hand in a terrible essay she isn't going to sugarcoat anything, and you'll get a terrible grade for it. She cares about her students and is always happy to help.
This class primarily focuses on your essay writing skills and she grades tough, there is also a lot of reading material but its worth the read and interesting.
Want to fail even if you try and go to office hours, well then this is the class for you. I do not recommend taking it. Just a tough grader
Meg starts off her semester by failing most students on their first papers, but she goes hard in the beginning on purpose. She pushes her students hard at the beginning to become better writes, and it works. I started off with a D on my first papers. I revised them a few times each and ended with an A in the class. The key is to revise and resubmit
She really cares about her students. There's three papers, and one in class essay. YOU NEED THE TEXTBOOK!!! You use so many essays from the textbook in the paper. She will never accept your first turn in of a paper to her as a final draft. She wants you to submit it to her dozens of times.
Tough grader and doesn't provide good guidelines for what she wants. Took the whole first half of the semester before she really explained the basic writing style of the essays. Also very unorganized, assigned 2 of the 3 essays within like the last 3 weeks of the class, plus we had to prepare an outline for the final as well.
Although she is very funny, she doesn't really explain what she is looking for. Her class does drag because she likes group discussions which are not helpful at all. Is available for discussion outside class time, however it doesn't help much.
Class is boring and moves way too slow. She is very knowledgable but her expectations are rather scattered. She is a tough grader but will attempt to help you however she can.
Very very very hard class but you will grow as a writer and as a person. Meg is a great personality but a very tough grader.
It wasn't the "funnest" class, but you learn a lot about yourself. Meg is very caring for her students and is willing to help you grow as a person and as a writer. I got a D on my first paper but her feedback was clear, ended up getting an A in the class. She knows her stuff but can be repetitive. Attendance counts.
As far as the professor goes, she is very funny and tries to make the class fun. However, her class is way too slow and boring. She isn't very direct on what she wants in our writing. The course dragged and i lost interest at one point. Very discouraging.
Lectures are pointless and they do drag on, although she was funny, didn't learn anything at all. Glad I'll be back learning in my country.
Very mediocre. Turned me away from short stories. Really displeasing when professor aren't inspiring
Avoid at all cost. Isn't specific on the few assigned papers. Lectures are boring and pointless. It's pretty much just a review of what is read, nothing new.
Avoid if possible, her grading criteria is not clear nor her expectations. After she analyzes the stories for you, she will not be clear on what she expects as far as assignments. She is funny but doesn't let you do the work (as far as reading). Very boring class, skip it.
If you are like me and need to be intrigued by what you are reading, do not take this class. Although she is very nice and funny you will not be captivated. She gives the answers to her own questions and isn't clear on writing material. Worse English grade I've ever gotten even through the elongated lessons.
Try to avoid taking her class if you can. She's a chill person, really nice, and funny. When it comes to grading she grades too hard. This was an english 100 class and she graded our papers as if we were an english major. You can only miss 3 classes and after that you get deducted a letter grade on the final for each day you've missed.
Very fair grader, only seems tough to people who aren't used to honest grading. If you're good at English and have a passion for writing, you'll do fine. She's very impartial to opinions, and very friendly. Only problem was we dragged on about the same subjects/reading's for a very long time. Still, learned valuable lessons in that class.
One of the worse professors I've had. She is not clear on writing criteria and seems bias towards English speakers. More like She likes basic writing and does most of the analyzing and reading for you. She makes the class interesting by being funny but other than that, the class is very very boring. Avoid-especially English majors.
No thanks, will never take this Professor again. She is not clear or concise with any of the papers she assigns. She spends her time trying to make the class laugh rather than explaining what to do. Do not take.
Do not take!!! That is all.
What a drag. This is the most boring-est class ever. She tries to make it fun but it is not enough to tolerate her meaningless lectures. Learning nothing.
Waste of time class. Yes she is funny, yes she is nice, but it doesn't make up for the bad lectures. Plain boring, and you don't learn anything.
Sat through an hour and forty five minutes of nothingness. Learned zero from this class. Really turned me away from short stories (which I use to like). What a let down, very discouraging.
Meg is really cool and funny, but I've never felt so stupid in a class. To be honest, I thought she graded way to harshly. I'm not an excellent writer and I revised every paper but still couldn't get higher than a B on ONE paper. If you want to become an English major, I'd say she's preparing you for it. She also takes attendance and it counts!
The grading criteria for the papers, even the prompts, are not ever entirely clear. She takes her time going through papers thoroughly, but seems to scrutinize every sentence in terms of grammar, cogency, and cohesion. Discussions are good, and the group work can be fun, but she is a much tougher grader than she lets on and takes forever to grade.
Attendance is crucial to your grade. Three essays, expect to revise each at least once. She gives a lot of feedback but takes a really long time to return papers and is a VERY hard grader. Doesn't communicate very well when discussing students' papers, instructions are vague. Don't take this class if you want an easy A. Office hours are a must.
Not an easy A but not impossible. You have to revise your papers over and over again. Office hours is a must and I suggest going early in the semester because she gets booked at the end of the semester. Overall, she's a great professor but tough grader. Don't take her class if you struggle in English, she's a really tough grader.
If you want a good grade you really have to work for it, she grades really hard. Her classes are extremely boring and you don't learn anything. She takes attendance and if you skip too many classes she lowers your grade. Your grade is based off 3 essays and the in class essay which is your final. Don't expect to get A's and B's on your first essays
Did not learn anything in this class nor did it help me become a better writer. She had so many expectations in essays but did not give a clear or concise instructions. Take with another professor, especially if you are an English major.
Total scattered brain, very unorganized. Not clear about grading criteria and you must visit her during her office hours in order to get a good grade, otherwise she will give you what she thinks you deserve, not what you actually have earned. Class is boring.
Great personality. Hilarious and snarky. Meg's class was fun and interesting. Hot tip: Lectures and class discussions are conversational and relaxed. Conversely, the way she grades papers is far from relaxed. Trust me, bring your absolute A-game when writing essays. Content, style, and grammar must be air-tight. If it's not, you will get slammed.
She is an extremely difficult grader. Most of the class received F's on their papers. Also read the fine print on her syllabus if you miss more than a few classes your grade will drop one letter grade per additional absence. She constantly talks down on certain groups of people and brings up inappropriate stories about her life. Avoid her !
Really funny, nice, and helpful. She's a tough grader, but you get to revise all of your essays and if you take her advice and talk to her during office hours or class you will improve your grades a lot. I really learned a lot from her and her lectures were always engaging and entertaining. This class isn't for lazy or uninterested students.
I honestly have no idea why there are bad comments. She is such a great professor, yes she grades hard but she thoroughly goes through every single line of your essay trying to improve your writing. She gives great suggestions and really helps you with your writing. Her knowledge of all the short story was fun and exciting she is super sweet.
She attempts to use humor to make up for her boring lectures, yet it still turns out to be a waste of time. Her grading criteria (pointwise) and she scrutinizes your paper to the core. Her prompts are incredibly vague, but she doesn't let you interpret what you want for the prompt. She basically gives you no freedom for writing in the 1st 2 papers.
She tends to forget this is an English 100 class and compares her class to her other journalism classes. She constantly goes off topic during lectures and is a very heavy grader. Do not bother taking this class. AVOID. She grades harshly.
Goes off-topic, grades incredibly harsh and her grading criteria and what she expects isn't clear. I didn't learn a lot from her and her class felt like a drag. Take another professor if you can.
Meg is hilarious and is a great person. But your grade is based off a few assignments that have a loose grading criteria. She will not explain what she expects from assignments clearly enough and will have the whole class confused. 85% of the class had to redo assignments because of bad grades, that should tell you enough.
She is not specific at all, just dont take her shes a horrible teacher trust me
TOUGH GRADER. Dont be blinded by her enthusiasm shell give you a D like nothing. She grades first year students like published authors. Shes not specific on what she wants on papers. Your grade is based off 4 papers throughout the semester. Just dont take her. Her class gave me unnecessary stress and made me want to cry.
Meg was such a sweet and funny professor. She was a hard grader, but she really helps you learn and grow a lot if you choose to work hard. Go to her office hours and make sure to ask her questions. 3 main papers and in class essay as a final. Even though she grades hard she allows you to rewrite your papers and regrades them.
This class involved three essays. She was very unorganized and never clear on her assignments. Even if you do the revisions and go to office hours, it does not help your grade. She always goes off topic and wastes so much time. I recommend you get a different professor if you can.
She will make you work for your grade. The class consists of 3 papers, all of which she will give you opportunities to revise them. She wont hold back from critiquing your papers and will mark up your paper like nothing. If you dont revise your papers and go to her office hours, You wont pass the class.
Meg is super caring, hilarious, and enthusiastic about teaching, but she is a hard grader. She likes papers written HER way, but does allow you to rewrite some for a better grade. There are 4 papers total.
The stories we read were great and she is quite the personality. She is a very tough grader. We read one story at a time, so the reading isnt bad. She let us know about pop quizzes. I thought this class would be great because I love short stories, but I was disappointed. She added more work after the switch to online as well which was stressful.
Was very accomodating with online learning. For example, we went over a writing assignment via phone conference for a couple of hours on a Saturday morning. Very willing to help out her students who put in the effort.
Shes a good professor and funny too. No midterms. I feel as if she isnt taking the lockdown into consideration though. A lot of us have to have our cameras off because of privacy or because we are cooking and listening at the same time. She points you out if you have it off and she has to realize that we arent sleeping behind the camera.
She is a really nice professor, but she isnt clear on what she wants on her papers. For instance, she says 1 page is fine for a paper, but when she sees that someone has 4 or more pages she suddenly wants that. She also seems to have favorite students and always picks on them.
I don't get why her rating is so low here. She took the pandemic into account and was flexible with the due dates. However, she IS a harsh grader and makes you work for an A; maybe that's why her rating is low? If you're not an English major, be prepared to struggle a bit on the essays. Overall though, she's a really nice and caring professor.
Took as online. She's a tough grader. She graded an essay at the end of the semester so I didn't have an idea that I did good or bad in the whole semester. Also, her feedback was kind of unclear. (She hates giving feedback) She does attendance. She does phone conversations instead of Zoom office hours. AVOID IF U CAN OR UR GPA WILL BE RUINED!
If I'm being honest, one of the most unorganized Professors I've had at CSULB. Nice lady, but takes a long time to give feedback. The whole class got 65% on the first assignment. WE DID IT IN THE FIRST 3 WEEKS. She gave it back to us the last week of April. If I had the choice, I would've chosen a different professor.
I feel bad giving meg such a low rating. To put it honestly, she plays favorites, picks out the ones she doesn't like. It made me uncomfortable to keep my camera on, she would always make a joke about me nodding my head. I have ADHD so I fidget sometimes. Not to mention she takes FOREVER to grade anything or give any type of feedback.
She will ruin your GPA and not care. Took as online an extremely tough grader. She graded an essay at the end of the semester so I didn't have an idea that I did good or bad in the whole semester. Which is so unfair. Said she would allow revision, but didn't give enough time. The moral of the story, if you have the option, don't take her.
shell gives you a D like nothing, this is coming from a student who typically gets A's and B's. She acts as if she cares but she doesn't.
She is a very funny and energetic teacher that gives her students good critical feedback on their writing and encourages her students to love writing. She is by far one of my most favorite English teachers I had.
I love Meg shes such a great professor! Her class always made me feel so comfortable that I would be able to turn on my camera. Shes really understanding & a great communicator. Shes also hilarious and always has come to class with so much good energy . (:
Great professor with a great passion. She didn't give much feedback unless you scheduled office hours with her, which consisted of making a phone call and sharing your paper on google docs. You can also make appointments with the writing center because she won't go over basic grammar. Essays piled up at the end of the semester.
She's a super sweet professor but just know she's a super tough grader. This class consists of 20% actually writing your essay and 80%. just revising the same things over and over again. Her feedback is often really vague so it's hard to know what to fix in your essay. Tbh didn't really learn anything "new" in terms of writing.
Ruin GPA, dont care student, dont know how to teach, never graded until final, no reason give your poor grade, not clear lecture, always turn in draft but never feedback until you got poor grade and not help student to fix essay, dont recommend to take
She doesn't grade papers in time; I had no idea what grade I have until the final week. She's unclear on her weekly essay feedback and too busy for an appointment. Instead of helping you in class, she tells you to work with the writing center. I did work with them multiple times, but still did not see the result she wants. She is not helpful at all
She is my least favorite professor I have ever taken. She only graded 2 assignments of ours before the final, and her feedback was all over the place. She made claims that students only got good grades because they had lazy teachers. She overshares about her personal life and the classes are highly unorganized.
Took her fall 2020, it was fully online. Lots of writing to help you how to properly write a good essay. You can make an appointment with her through phone call and she will spend an hour with you pointing out what you are missing, grammar, etc. If you have her I suggest finding other easy classes to take with this class. Helpful and caring.
I'm a transfer student, but her class made my first semester a living nightmare. She refused to give me my accommodations and humiliated me for having disabilities in front of the class over Zoom. She gave absolutely unclear instructions, criticized us for asking questions, and took almost two months to grade our essays. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS
She was flexible with deadlines, but she will devalue your intelligence and shame you for asking questions. She assigned us an explication essay with the most confusing article ever and refused to clarify her instructions or provide a rubric. Not even the UWC tutors could help us! Grades and feedback are all over the place. Don't take her!!!
She is really smart but damn she is tough. Not many assignments and took over a month to grade our first paper. Her grading is very blunt but I see how she can make you a better reader/writer. If there was more feedback in a timely manner maybe that could have happened. She expects a lot out of you for herself not doing the same.
Explication was the worse assignment I have ever done. She will take the entire semester to grade it. Everything was due last minute because of it, and she failed to show us an example of what she wanted. (it was not an actual explication). She's not always clear with directions. We read very similar stories-- all pertaining to failing marriages.
Just don't take her.
She really is a good teacher and pretty funny too. She engages with the class and tries to connect with students which is good. We only had about 3 essays and that's what we did for the whole semester. She might be hard grader, but taking her class will help your writing get better.
this class had 3 assignments total and she crammed 3 more assignments into the last 2 weeks of the semester so don't expect to get your grade up easily if you're not doing well. i did not enjoy this class AT ALL and i hope and pray that you save yourself from her. she is a tough grader but gives vague instructions like what????? be serious.
While the professor can be tough, Unstuck AI and other study tools like ChatGPT really helped me stay on top of things. The class is challenging, but worth it if you put in the work.
She is a nice professor, gives detailed feedback, has good energy in class BUT she's a really tough grader (I was shocked when she graded my first essay Istg I went to the UWC & did it the best I could) That class was nightmare for an English learner like me. She didn't even post any grades until final, which made me very concerned about my grade.
Honestly if you suck at English and need to pass, take this professor. Only had to write 2 papers throughout the whole semester, which she in fact made us work on through the WHOLE semester (it got boring and tiring because you would basically work on 1 paper for a month) No exams whatsoever but I would say that she does care for her students.
She gave unclear feedback on Canvas and her prompts were super vague. Her office hours helped and she elaborated what she wanted better, though, so that helped a bit. Unfortunately, the student models/examples of essays weren't consistent at all so it was hard to tell what she was looking for exactly. It was like Russian Roulette atp ...
